La Tragedia de Luzhniki (1982)
Tumblr media
Fuente I Los Pleyers.

The Barça season 2023/24 - femení edition
At long last, the femení edition. I couldn't not do it for the history makers!
Analysis of goals, transfers & injuries
Note: Club Friendlies are not counted, considering it's really just a meeting of teams that don't usually meet. It's not a competition
Warning: There could be inaccuracies, for that I am sorry
Goals
Tumblr media
4 TROPHIES! FINALLY THEY DEFEATED LYON;
As you can see, the ladies closed out yet another season with over 200 goals scored! In Liga F alone 135!;
Salma is the total topscorer, whilst also being the topscorer in 3 of the 4 competitions;
Caroline is the Liga F Pichichi for the 1st time ever since transferring to Barça! An amazing season for her turns out to be very fruitful;
Fridolina who missed 7 months came up to score a whooping 6;
Marta & Ona scored the most out of all defenders. 9 for Marta is incredibly well done. Ona definetly didn't miss her mark in her 1st season back with 7;
7 players with double digit goals, including Alexia who despite missing 5 months scored 10 more than last season;
Many youngsters also marked 1 or more goal, with Vicky being the outlier with 9!
Transfers
Tumblr media
Some of the transfers are loans;
Pere Romeu becomes the new coach. He was part of Jona's staff. The cycle of Barça coach is a long involved staff member thus continues;
The departure of some was expected (Asisat, Geyse, Laia), however the 2 that are still a bitter pill were Ana-Maria & Nuria's. With how little notice both were sent away. I do think they learnt their lesson considering Jona, Mario & Sandra's sent-off;
There weren't many new transfers ahead of the season. 2 of these were even for Barça B - Onyeka & Giulia;
However there are 2 incoming transfers that are pre-negociated (?) in the form of Ewa Pajor & Ellie Roebuck. Pajor would be a striker which Barça hasn't had since Oshoala left mid-season. Roebuck would be more of a Cata stand-in as Cata officially becomes the no.1. I'd assume Ellie would be rotated with her;
Then there's also the rumour of Laia Aleixandri coming home - like Ona, she is also a La Masia product. This would be crucial given the CB-crisis that was this past season was horrendous. As well as the fact that Laia is a decent player: very fast on & off the ball & much like Patri willing to fight all the time;
It is painful but I say goodbye to Asisat, Sandra, Jonatan & Mariona with the utmust gratitude
Injuries
Tumblr media
Which is what I'll highlight here first: the CB crisis; Irene for parts of the year was ill, Mapi had a whooping total of 3 injuries with her most severe putting her out of action for 200 days & Jana herself was out for 7 months. This resulted in relying heavily on Martina Fernandez - a Barça B player - & Ingrid Engen - a MIDFIELDER. Unfortunately this came at the cost for Martina at the very end of the season;
With Ona & Martina being the final additions to equipo lesionado, Ingrid is potentially the final player left to not have been injured. This is evident in the high amount of minutes to she played. It is crucial that Barça could close the deal on free agent Laia A. if they want so that Ingrid can be rotated from time to time;
Mapi, Fridolina, Alexia & Jana missed a lot of months to play & were greatly missed;
Caroline this season was out for less long than other times. This was usually with Norway;
September, October & November were by far the worst months;
Aitana & Bruna played through discomfort.
Other highlights
Ingrid whilst not reflected in the G/A had a very stable season. Goddamn this woman played CB despite not even being a defender. She played a lot of minutes & she did it well;
Alexia & Frido's comebacks!!!;
The amount of Barça B players that got a significant amount of time is also very pleasant. They all had a moment to shine;
Jana & Bruna finally recovering for real;
The highly anticipated return of Mapi;
Irene lifting the UWCL for a 2nd time... having defeated Lyon by a strong performance... in her home that is the Basque country <3;
Cata inevitable number change from 13 to 1!

i don’t wanna see any of the players who played in the copa and euros finals/semifinals until september 15th. they need to take a much needed vacation and relax.
more specifically: kayo, kobbie, all the french boys (except rabiot), virgil, cody, john, uncle marc, lucho, macca, julian, and all the real madrid boys

hi!
could you explain more about how this is the first year they've won the quadruple? i read up a little because i was shocked they hadn't done it before!!
hey, so i've talked about that previously in this post.
but barça has only won the champions league 3 times (2021, 2023, and 2024).
Tumblr media
barça has never won all 4 titles in the same season before this year.
we came close last year but were disqualified from copa de la reina when we improperly fielded geyse who had to serve out a red card suspension. similarly, we lost the supercopa tourney during the 2020-21 season (same year as our first uwcl win).
so yeah, that's why this season was so historic!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
haha, well, if it was just based on national team performance, then i would agree, but jona deserves his flowers.
he's a true football brain and deserves to be recognised for such a historic feat that has never been done before in spanish football, and that's the quadruple for barça. he ended up out coaching all the best women's managers of the day, including emma hayes, sonia bompastor, natalia arroyo, martin ho, and more.
it's a time-honoured tradition to be mad at the barça manager for most of the season and blame all poor decisions on him, but he's done a good job at continuing the barça way.

On your tag about Argentina, I’m sure you didn’t mean it to sound like that, but Argentina literally ethnically cleansed their black population which is why they’re not as mixed as their neighbouring countries. It’s a diff situation than European countries with minimal African migration. And there are ZERO black players on their national team so tbh I will never support that racist af country
you know that generalizations are bad, right? Also, what you are talking about did happen, but it was around 1868 - 1874. I'd ask to you to read what Leopold II of Belgium did during those exact years in Congo. Just bcs it didn't happen in Belgium, it doesn't mean it wasn't a genocide as well. And i am quoting just the first fact that came to my mind around that period of time. Also... MINIMAL AFRICAN MIGRATION?!! THERE WERE ACTUALLY SLAVES in england until 1838 and in france until 1848. Just, it was the 19th century and shit like that happened everywhere in the entire colonial world, Argentina included. So, AS FOR TODAY, does Argentina has a racism problem? yeah, but it is not written in the stars that it is up to the single individual, and also that argentina doesn't have more problems with systemic racism than, let's say, the US. Or go look to what France is still doing to its muslim immigrants and citizen, and then we will talk about what systemic racism is. THAT SAID saying that all french people are racists is absurd, right? That's exactly the case. I won't go around saying that an entire country is racist, because saying every single argentinian is racist is absurd. What i am reading right now it's xenophobia. By your logic italy doesn't have black players either, so it is a racist country as a whole. so thank you for telling me i am racist. But please, let's deepen this discourse just a tiny bit and ask yourself why there are so many black footballers in certain ex colonial national teams.
But i know you won't ever change your mind about this take, so please, come off anon the next time, so we will talk further about this topic. But one thing i have to say. If you think your country is less racist because it has black people living there you are definitely mistaken and i suggest you to wake up. Europe has willingly let die too many and many black immigrants in the mediterranean for you or anybody to say that whoever is worse than europe.
Also. Feel free to support whoever you want, because, and i say it honestly, i don't care and for sure i never said you should/shouldn't support whoever you want.
I suggest you to read this article, because it has many interesting point for this conversation. I'd like to quote some parts that i think are pretty relevant
“There are no black journalists or politicians, but Argentina’s poor barrios are full of Afro-descendants. So are our prisons, just like in the United States.”
It wasn’t until the 2010 census that an option was included for Argentinians wishing to self-identify as Afro-descendants. “That inclusion was very important but unfortunately it was restricted to only a small segment of the population, with the resulting projection suggesting that only half a percent of the population self-identify that way,” said Gomes.

This is for Culés, now that DAZN's deal is on
Uefa Women's Champions League is available to watch on DAZN's website now. It is free (for now);
Primera División Feminina better known as Liga F is available on DAZN's website too;
Copa De La Reina's broadcasting rights lie with Spanish distributors. The channels available tend to be TV3 Catalunya, another Spanish channel I forgot & La 2 (Spanish one not the French one);
Supercopa is already over but same as Copa De La Reina
