Explanation of the Scorn/Tension crossover a.k.a "What the fuck is going on in her drawings"

"This thing, Turgor (original name of the first release in Russia), it actually didn't come from a desire to make something that would win the "Most Unconventional Game" award. It came from long conversations with people who are between 20 and 30, who very quickly felt some kind of early fatigue, who now feel like the walking dead. Amber — riot, madness, brightness of emotions

Violet — creativity, inspiration, tenderness, mystery and intrigue

Gold — love, care and self-sacrifice.

By the way, if you compare the colors in my previous drawing with the list above, you can understand what each character desires most.

The only living-like creatures of the Void are the beautiful Sisters...

And the terrible Brothers

The Sisters know how to store Color. If you feed the Sister Color to the limit she breaks out of the Void, thereby destroying it. For this the Brothers treat them quite cruelly: give them almost no Color, guard them, tear out their hearts (vessels for Color) or even kill them. The Brothers look so peculiar because each of them has been in the Nightmare, a place even worse than the Void, and broke out of there, paying with the integrity of their body.

We play as the Guest of the Void, a human soul that is mistaken for a new Brother. The Guest can not only store the Color, like a Sister, but also germinate it in his hearts, turning it into paint (actually into a Nerva, but I'm trying to avoid details). With this paint, the Guest revives the dead Void, making the Color grow in dead trees and rocks, kills hostile creatures, feeds the Sisters, throwing off their shackles. In general, brings the Void closer to death, like the Sister.

The process of communication, combat, farming consists of drawing glyphs (below).

The Guest's task is to fill all his hearts with Color, germinate it in himself and break free. The Sisters' task is to force the Guest to do this with them. The Brothers' task is to prevent this.

TL:DR: Tension is a first-person adventure\farming simulator with a hard resource- and time-management and also a strange psychedelic dream about apathy and creative implementation

What does Scorn have to do with it? Let's return to the epigraph at the beginning of the post. If the world of the Void is an endless depression, from which, nevertheless, there is still a chance to escape, because the Guest has the will to live and create, then the world of Scorn is the hopeless agony without thirst for creation and empathy. There are only crude carnal desires: to eat, to reproduce, to merge together in an effort to get rid of loneliness.

Comparison of the color scheme of one of the gardens and Polis

The Sisters called the final deprivation of Color "death forever." The world of Scorn experiences "death forever," and nothing can stop this process. That is why Scornguy, Parasite and little Moldman are drawn to the Guest so zealously and desperately. Scornguy and Parasite grab the Guest already in the process of ascension and entangle him with their body (or what is inside him), and then begin to gut and devour his hearts to gain what they never knew.

But still I believe in happy ending for both protagonists. Scornguy is flesh without spirit. Guest is spirit without flesh. One cannot exist without the other. After spending more time with each other, they will begin to interpenetrate, forming a perfect match made in heaven.

Remarkably, in their canons both die, giving new life. Guest voluntarily gives himself to one of the Sisters or directly to the outside world and forever changes it with his Color. Scornguy is forcibly fused into a new creature.

— Eli; I think he'd find it cool if you were into drawing and sketching (I don't believe he'd have a favorite style, just random sketches of the most random-est of things does it for him to think you're really cool and talented). He'd absolutely loved to get a peak at the sketches, especially if he catches you sketching something. If you dare to show him a sketch of him either post Hawk or before Hawk he'd ask you if he could keep it with the sweetest of smiles. Also graffiti, absolutely would mess around with spray paint with you.

However he would be a bit meaner just for the show during S1-3 specifically with his macho show of I'm a goddamn badass pretender for the girls. He'd just be basically mean for the laughs but swear he'd also be sweet as fuck to you afterwards and making up for his behaviour. (Make him sit for a few hours and be your model, that'll do lol.) [Side note I think Hawk would be the kind of guy to think about partial nude art but never admit it.]

— Miguel; just in general this boy is fucking bashful and amazed for your skill at drawing. He'd love to breeze through your sketchbooks and ask you to draw something for him. Absolutely anything and he'd cherish it, especially if it was something of him or nature-related. I also think he'd love abstract patterns. I also think he appreciates graffiti and murals!

— Demetri; interested for sure, especially if you're into drawing fantasy characters and settings. He's a comic nerd, he'd love to see your take on some of his favored characters from comics. fanart kind of guy imo. Also if you draw him his DnD character he'd love you for eternity. Just saying :3 (I also believe that Dimitri would have artistic talent as well. Thinking about dates where y'all just geek about your interests and draw, create stories etc.) I also think that Dimitri would love to see scenery art.

— Moon; Personally love her character sm down to earth (not really, she seems more daydream type) and interested in crystals, chakras and energies! I think she'd be interested in symbolism within art and just be really really interested in spiritual-related artworks. Abstractical patterning that takes inspiration from a culture? Mythology related artworks? She'd absolutely eat them up and I mean gobble it all up, I also see her as someone who'd do art with you.

— Yasmin; she'd love to see what you were sketching especially if it was her, because I think she would let you just draw her up in different outfits even without asking if you could. [Personally also think she'd be interested in nude or revealing art.] She'd be your model without any further questioning, BUT be sure your up for the task to hear her whine about how long it's going to take and just be cheesy with some memes. (Koff Koff the popular french girl line.)

— Tory; now I don't think Tori's much of an art girl either, but she'd love to see your sketchbook like the others and watch you draw. However this doesn't by any means rule out graffiti, she'd be up in a second if spray paints and graffiti was mentioned imo! I also think she'd have an eye for scenery and murals artworks with abstract types of art.

Hello!! I appreciate your interest :D I put a lot of thought into the colors so this may be a long one! It'll include other animation info too

Any color I use is never reused for any section, I pick them all manually and for a purpose, it's important to have something different for each section as it adds more meaning and so things don't get boring. I occasionally use overlays, only one section uses it though. I'll go over a bunch of parts where color was important.

I struggled with the colors here, it based it off of an old drawing (on the right), and I realized I couldn't make my old coloring style work again, especially with how I was going about it, nothing played off of each other and felt very icky? I opted for more natural colors, creates a better sense of what I was originally going for, this part isn't very significant but it was interesting to find out what works and doesn't, you can learn a lot from redrawing old works.

This was another part I struggled on, I purposely made One look wonky because I liked the sketch more than anything I could come up with. They really look stupid, don't they? I redrew it a bunch of times to incorporate the orange, but I did not want to base it off of the scene where One was counting down, that had a purpose for it, this did not. It was following the previous parts color, which has an overcast of orange, but I couldn't find a way for this to work without feeling unsatisfying. I opted for using a trio of blue+green+red, it could be seen as 123 but that wasn't intentional.. it was the only colors I thought could work with the lighting of One's TV, but hooray for unintentionality! It makes this part connected with the lore!

This part I put a lot of thought into! Something I found interesting about One's lounge is how it uses red+yellow+blue, the three primary colors, in design those colors are used to invoke a sense of familiarity and safety, and if you pay attention, these colors are used everywhere. this could or could not be intentional in the actual show, I do not believe they are, but I used this to my advantage as when One's walking past the figurines, the yellows increases, but when they figurines fall, the yellow fades into white to show while One tries to come across as trustworthy, their façade can be quickly broken. I put together a lot of notes for this part and drew a sketch for it too LOL

"The lights that shine" section's color were meant to be like this from the start, this was the first section I animated, they have a big contrast and yellow limbs, I only put that because I thought it looked cool, but the colors carried over to the other part where they look like this, and ended up using this palette to symbolize who was kidnapped by One. I had trouble deciding how the beams(?) that were coming out of the moon should look like though, this was what I was originally going to do. The placement of each contestant is important too, more to the front, the more they may be impacted by One. I wasn't sure between Gaty or Leafy to put in this section, since we don't know if either of them will/had contact with her, it was difficult to decide. I put Leafy instead because I didn't want to animate Gaty.

The chair for Gaty! No one mentioned this detail and I was a little sad about that - each time One's lounge is shown, there is a different chair for each contestant, if One took Gaty, it'd leave a bitter feeling if she used a similar chair to her and Two's hangout couch.. their hangout couch is already split in half, it's possible One could take half of it. The colors were based off of how the person who designed One's lounge uses colors, I used some of her personal artwork as reference, and also how the chairs shown in the lounge were designed, and each design has something to do with the characters, One's is big, to show importance and uses the primary colors, Fanny's is small and dark with shadows taking up most of it, Basketball's is big, modern and green to reflect her mechanic room, Gaty in TPOT is (unfortunately) mostly associate with Two and this couch, and is similar to a therapist's patients couch, it would fit her role and characterization in TPOT if I am right about this

This was the only section to use overlay, layer 6 and 5 were the only ones to be changing as stated in the notes, there's a lot of light changes in this sequence, and if you notice closely there's a red, a shadow casting from characters outside of ones shadow, and there's a bigger contrast between the lighting and shadows. The "lights that shine" section you'd think uses that, but everything was done manually, even the transitions colors

Hello, I’m a new fan of the life series and saw that you mentioned the watcher in an artwork(I loved it btw), but can you infodumb the lore on me? I’ve heard about a watcher and I have no idea what it means :(

I am not super deep into the lore actually, most of what I know comes from just reading fanfiction, (lol). I do know that the origins of the lore are from Grian's Evo series, and the end of that series he becomes a Watcher. The Watchers were responsible for a lot of weird things happening on that server, they were sort of toying with the players. So I am pretty sure the lore goes that the Watchers created the life series as well and are influencing the events that happen. And Grian knowing all the wild cards and saying things like 'it's your turn' as if he already knew Joel would win is very... Watcher of him :)

The CCs have even leaned into it a few times which is really cool! For example the watcher symbol shows up very prominently in Secret life. Martyn references the lore a lot in his videos (which are really good btw). And Scar apparently included some bits of lore at the end of his finale video too!

Not gonna lie, 90% of my original inspiration for Raph's outfit came from mutant ninja midlife crisis and the battle nexus outfit F!Leo was given. I mean just the description alone made that outfit root itself in my brain for months it's so cool-

Obviously I didn't want to just copy-paste someone else's work onto my AU though, so I did my own research (which I went in-depth about here)

And for the rest of them it was the same process of researching different types of Japanese clothing and consulting The Archives (aka scrolling through the depths of pinterest) for design inspiration, then just throwing something on paper. So they're not 100% accurate to traditional Japanese clothing, I wasn't really going for accuracy as much as aesthetics, but the inspiration is clear enough I hope

Unfortunately, I don't have any specific references to share since these designs came from looking at tons of different pictures and artworks, but I'll go into a little detail on each one:

I wanted to keep the cloud motif but also give each outfit its own little special detail. Donnie of course had a dragon (mostly inspired by his association with the purple dragons), Leo's was the biggest deviation from Japanese inspo with the lightning bolts, which I think is Greek and/or Roman centric? And Mikey got lotus + multiple color privileges. A bit of a treat from one artist to another, lol

Cassandra's had the red sun as her motif, and for April I just reused her jacket's design. It looks a lot like the moon in the context of the outfit's design, which was pretty convenient. Not sure what importance the moon has, but it was a cool contrast to Casey's. And Sunita got cherry blossoms! Mostly because it fit her color scheme the best, though the symbolism didn't quite fit her character. Still, I think it turned out cute and that's what I was going for more than anything tbh

All I can say is to remember one thing above all else: pinterest is your friend but also do your research (especially if you're as culturally illiterate as me 👍)

More specifically they get killed by one of my other ocs (if you remember Dylan this is who he actually kills) and then he and Molloch’s gf Crystal (other girl in that artwork) spend an arc trying to revive them so that Dylan can stop seeing ghosts and Crystal can.. not have a dead partner idk

But reviving and stuff taps back into their backstory so they get a cool dragonness upgrade if that makes sense. I wanted to draw wings fight me.

Sort of religious methinks. Their god is all about rebirth and life- big symbolism with the phoenix there. So them revive was big ups. Also reason why they got fire magic. Cuz Phoenix.

ive been fixated by the idea of stede getting a tattoo in s2 so here's a few ideas

an octopus

pros: very cool, classically pirate-y, matches w ed's.

cons: perhaps a bit too cool for stede. a little messy symbolically since stede doesn't see ed as 'the kraken.' tattooing process would take a while for a large tattoo and idk yet if stede has that much free time in s2 between his pining and searching for ed

notes: a big nice placement, over his shoulder and chest. honestly I like this one and I would get it myself lol

a heart

pros: also stereotypically pirate, in character with his personality, represents being the heart of the crew and works with his relationship with ed

cons: not terribly original but stede's a sap okay

notes: placement on the forearm, upper arm, or over his own heart. definitely has a banner in the design with 'Edward' or just 'Ed' in pretty calligraphy. maybe a cutlass pierced through for max pirate theming

pros: highlights his relationship w the crew and a is nice callback. very cute, like getting your kids' artwork tattooed on your leg. means stede bonnet would have a terrifying kitty cat tattoo

HEY YALL! Today I’m gonna introduce two new AUs called Draketale and drakefell! Thank you so much @turtleskele for giving me the idea and characters!!

Now to start, yes this AU is about the dragons! In these two AUs, all monsters and humans mixed with dragons ages ago. Almost every person in this au is descended from the drakes at some point! They’re surface AUs meaning the monsters were were always living around humans and vice versa. The monster populations of both AUs are smaller but come with the largest chunk of mages that any au has seen!

The biggest thing this au adds is runes! To explain:

Runes are symbols of protection carved into an object, normally stone or gems, something that’ll last.

What runes can do is act as security. The simplest are just warnings and will alert the owners of the property of intruders. The best can make “domes” that are impossible to pass without clearance, and can even “turn off” any magic in their spaces.

Runes can only be used for protection. There’s been plenty of monsters and witches who’ve tried getting them to change but no one has been successful

Now the difference between the Draketale AUs and the drakefell AUs is what they focused on. The Draketale people inherited their dragons ancestors love for hoards. These people are very materialistic and adore the arts. Many of them have taken over the banks, schools and arts of ebott

The drakefell people inherited their ancestors warlike tendencies. They’re territorial people, enjoy combat and challenges, and take protecting their people very seriously. Many have joined the royal guard, mines or work with runes in some way.

It’s pretty easy to identify a human/mage/monster from Draketale and drakefell. Just look for:

Horns! The most common trait any of these people have are two-six horns on the top of the head. The sizes and shapes vary, but the vast majority (even the humans) have a pair

Slitted eyes. Another trait shared by most monsters and humans, small oval eye openings instead of the normal round ones is really common.

Scaling patterns on the skin. Some monsters and humans have small patches of scales. This is normally reserved for those who have more draconic blood than others

Wings, only those closely descended from the strongest have the large dragon wings of their ancestors.

Now meet the draketale and drakefell bros!!

Draketale:

Alden/Al (Draketale sans):

He’s a draconic skeleton monster standing at 5’5 with bold aqua blue magic. He has smaller horns that curve backwards and smooth standard dragons wings. He is currently 45 years old

Al is a very intelligent monster with a tendency to daydream. He’s an artist at heart and very passionate, but tires easily non his projects making him flighty and unpredictable when it comes to plans and favors. He’s got a mischievous side and likes pulling little pranks on his friends.

He is a professor at ebotts university in the art department! He teaches the sculpting class. He’s also a freelance artist on the side. Al specializes in making figures and scenes out of stone, marble, crystal and metal.

As a draconic monster, Al has the ability to lay down runes. He is fairly decent at this and uses simple ones to protect his artwork.

His special ability is glowing wings. That’s it. And he can’t turn it off either so when he goes to the movies he has to have his wings covered lol

His magic weapon of choice is a baseball bat in the shape of a Roman bust lol. It’s design is terrible when it comes to practical use but man does it look cool.

Hobbies: sculpting of course, collecting crystals and rocks, also collecting old artwork, wine tasting, playing the harp, comedy shows, poker

Loved items: his favorite three rocks are aquamarine, purple amethyst and green Jasper, loves fancy rock pics, gold, old art from any culture, sparkling wine, fancy card decks, operas and instrumentals, hand buzzers, those fancy scented slimes 

Olivander/Ollie (Draketale papyrus):

He is a draconic skeleton monster standing at 6’6 with a light gold magic. He has the standard horns that curl backwards and smooth standard dragon wings. He is currently 40 years old

Ollie is a true collector. He embraces his hoarding nature from his dragon ancestors and loves to surround himself with pretty things and people. Ollie is a real socialite who comes across as sweet, playful and generous but is quite the shrewd businessman underneath. However he also has a heart of gold and strong sense of Justice. Anything he’s collected over the years he’s made sure he earned the right way.

Ollie owns and operates one of the largest banks in ebott. He mainly deals with those around the farm district and mountains but his customers spread all over. He’s known for fair policies and holding up his bargains, but also being harsh on loaners who don’t pay back.

As a draconic monster, ollie has the ability to lay down runes. He is pretty competent, but prefers to hire the local guild to protect his bank and home instead. They’re the true masters

His special ability is fine polish. By rubbing a stone between his fingers he can give it a smooth beautiful polish when he concentrates. He never uses his ability and Al is terribly jealous of it

His magic weapon is a tall and thin staff with ornate pointed spikes on the top end

Hobbies: COLLECTING SHINY SH*T. Jewelry, art, bobbles, weapons, books you name it. If it’s valuable, old and ornate he loves it. He’s also a secret collector of the Batman comics and has a crush on Batman lol. Also likes raising exotic birds, interior design, jogging, book clubs, dance shows, cultural festivals, and poker

Loved items: valuables in general but is particularly keen on tapestries and metalworks, birds, wallpaper and tile samples, bathrobes, perfumes, beginner artists (he supports a lot of them and collects artists like his antiques)

Drakefell:

Barin/Barry:

He is a compact looking draconic skeleton monster. He stands at 5’10 and has a greenish grey magic color. He is currently 48 years old. He is a halfbreed with a brown soul for loyalty

Barin is the definition of duty. He never breaks a promise and always does his work with his all. He has a strong sense of Justice and despises anyone who don’t whole their ends of a bargain. He’s a harsh leader, but also knows a good balance between when to push and when to rest his “subjects”. He has a bit of a hard time allowing himself to unwind when he feels like there’s still things to do, but his loved ones can bully him into it lol. Never ever get into a bet with him. He will win.

Baron was once the leader of his clan. Sadly it’s been disbanded under the new rulers. Nowadays though he leads a guild of rune masters which surprise surprise, is mostly his old clan members lol. They cover the mountain that had the famine monsters trapped, now a large mining complex. They keep the mines maintained and also sell their services to ebott protecting buildings with rune arrays. Even the royal palace uses their runes.

As a draconic monster, Barin has the ability to lay down runes. He is considered a master at the craft and will step away from his leading to do special projects if he’s paid enough ;)

His special ability is gun-concentrate: when he’s injured, if he’s leaking “blood” (ecto), his blood reacts with the sunlight making an explosive liquid. All it needs is a tiny bit of fire to set off. It’s a very dangerous ability as the level of explosion can’t be contained, so he’s extra careful to dodge when fighting

His magic weapon is a two handed long sword with his clans coat of arms on the blade

Hobbies: creating and laying runic arrays, LISTENING TO MUSIC, he’s a massive music nerd and loves every genre, swordfighting, hunting, foraging, pedicures/manicures, stargazing/astronomy

Loved items: musicians, his clan, wild boar meat, beer, telescopes, beautiful sword scabbards, stews, his spell book, the color gold

Arwin/Ari:

He’s a large draconic skeleton standing at 6’8 with darker missy green magic. He is currently 32 years old. He is a half breed with a green soul for kindness

Arwin despite his rough upbringing in the clan always seemed to hold on to his softness. He’s a kind gentle monster and really detests fighting, but is more than capable of doing so if he needs. He’s personable and a smooth talker, he’s very popular despite his scarier looks. Hes very protective over the weaker ones in his “clan”, especially the humans and sees himself as a bit of a knight in shining armor

Arwin was a soldier for the clan and the next in line if anything happened to barin. When the clan disbanded after the crash, he became a part of the guild instead, keeping his role as his brothers loyal second in command. Arwin now works as a sort of spokesman for the guild. He handles contracts and getting the guild new deals. He also settles any conflicts between the members when barin isn’t around.

As a draconic monster, Arwin has the ability to lay down runes. He is considered a master at the craft and goes out often for rune jobs when his paper work isn’t piled up.

His special ability is dolled up: he can make another monsters magic color brighter or even a different shade by placing his hand on their face. It’s only temporary and is a fun party trick

His magic weapon is twin curved blades. They both have the clan coat of arms on the blade.

Hobbies: true crime podcasts, parties and dancing, hunting, rave/techno/fast paced music, laying down runic arrays, sword fighting

Loved items: the color sky blue, his clan, humans, honey comb and honey glazed meats, murder mystery books, dance dance revolution/just dance.

Side characters:

Marcheline (drakefell undyne): the third in command of the guild should anything happen to barin and arwin. She is faithful, incredibly strong, harsh, and has little tolerance for whiners. She trains the new guild members as well as helps keep up the mines. She is an incredibly tall draconic river monster with pitch black scales, moss green hair, and a pair of large curling horns that are dusted gold to match her gold eyes.

Farbon (drakefell grillby) he’s from a rival clan in drakefell but took to modern ebott easily. He is a blacksmith and is known for his intricate gold work. Any jeweler worth their salt buys from him. He works closely with Ollie at times.

Fafnir, the king of Draketale, a large goat monster with pitch black fur, large silver horns and wings. He’s the oldest royal on the lineup and the great grandfather of the Draketale bros. He helps zeus with the budget and regulates the banks loans and business grants. He’s a happy spouse to his beloved mate Delphyne

Delphyne, the queen of Draketale, a large goat monster with four topaz curled horns and a pair of black wings and coal grey fur. She is the queen of Draketale and the great grandmother of the Draketale bros. She is the oldest “toriel” on the rulers lineup and is neck deep in the colleges and art programs of ebott. She’s a happy spouse to her beloved mate fafnir.
