Ooh, can I have "Alex Lois thing" for 200? It makes me think of Cool Aunt Kara AU, but I'm sure whatever you've come up with is fabulous
In a shocking turn of events, it was actually a canon thing! XD Long, loooooong ago, I noticed this parallel between Lois and Alex and I started brainstorming a crossover fic. But then I fell behind on Superman & Lois and thus the motivation to see it through kinda petered out. XD
Here's what I had:
“Are you going to tell him?”
They're standing in what remains of the main cavern of the Fortress. Alien weaponry and salvaged Kryptonian artifacts litter the floor, the shelves that once displayed them reduced to slushy masses of ice chips.
As Alex surveys the damage, she wants to laugh at the question. Are you going to tell him? Clark will know, the minute he returns to the Fortress, that something has happened.
But she sincerely doubts she'll get a questioning phone call.
“No,” Alex tells J'onn, her voice sounding much stronger than she currently feels. “No, we—we don't know anything—won't know anything until Brainy is finished with the diagnostics.”
J'onn's expression is skeptical, and she can tell he wants to press the issue further, so she moves to start putting the scattered items back...somewhere. Anywhere. Anything to keep her hands and mind occupied, away from the only concrete thought she's had in the last hour or so.
Kara is trapped in the Phantom Zone. She's gone. She's—
“He needs to know, Alex.”
J'onn's voice is low and gentle. She shoves aside a pile of snow with her bare hand, ignoring the way the chill is starting to settle into her arms and legs. A stark reminder that this place...really isn't meant for humans.
“Not yet,” Alex says. She briefly worries that J'onn will argue with her...and that she'll lose that argument, because she can't come up with a single, compelling reason as to why she shouldn't tell him.
She just...she can't. Because the only time they call Clark is when the world is ending—literally. Clark is a last resort. Clark is...he's...
Next of kin is the phrase that comes to mind.
And Alex refuses to even acknowledge that possibility.
J'onn must sense her thoughts—an impressive feat, given how hard she's trying to suppress them—and simply nods.
“Alright,” he agrees. “Not yet.”
--
It's a bright, beautiful, downright pastoral day in Smallville. Not that Lois would know, as she's spent the greater part of the last...seventeen? hours? Seated at the kitchen table, pouring over the collection of files Maxy was able to dig up and send her way.
She finishes skimming another accounts report, and checks it against another document on her laptop. Notes the inconsistencies, moves on to the next.
Lather. Rinse. Repeat.
“Mom. Mom.” Lois blinks, and looks up from her mountain of files. Jonathan stands at the far end of the table, holding a bowl of cereal. “You're using like. The whole table.”
“Oh,” she stands and starts to try and clear a space for him. “Sorry hon. Let me just—”
“Actually, I think I'll go...” he nods towards the family room, wearing an amused look. “Coffee table looks safer.”
“Yeah, yeah,” she waves off his gentle teasing. “Use a coaster!”
He disappears into the family room, and Lois smiles, ultimately grateful for the interruption; the mention of the coffee table has made her acutely aware that some caffeine would be...pretty good, right about now.
She moves to start a pot, checking her phone as she pulls the filters and grounds from the cupboard. The usual alerts appear on her notifications screens—The NY Times, Gotham Gazette, National City Tribune...
In fact...there have been a lot of alerts from the Tribune, of late, and yet hardly any coverage of Supergirl exploits.
She skims the top stories—a few mentions of other meta-human heroes. Nothing about Kara.
Gonna have to tell Clark his cousin is slacking, she thinks as she turns on the coffee maker. ...Maybe have him call—
“Mom, mom!”
It's Jonathan again, but his voice is high and distressed, coming from upstairs. Lois drops her phone on the counter, all thoughts of the Tribune and coffee forgotten as she hurries for the stairs. There's only one thing on her mind, only one thing that could make Jonathan call out like that.
Jordan.
--
Probably won't return to this but would love to (maybe? someday???) write more Lois. She's such a great character, and so often underserved in the actual comic books. DC greenlight a new Lois books you COWARDS. XD Thanks for sending this in!

“Dear NASA, My name is Jack Davis and I would like to apply for the planetary protection officer job,” Jack wrote. “I may be nine but I think I would be fit for the job.”
Among his qualifications? For one, he wrote, his sister says he's an alien. Jack also said he had watched the TV show “Marvel Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” and “almost all the space and alien movies I can” — though not yet “Men in Black.” (In Jack's defense, the 1997 hit movie with Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones came out more than a decade before he was even born.)
Toward the end of his letter, Jack casually mentions that he is great at video games. But his final assertion is perhaps the most persuasive.
“I am young, so I can learn to think like an alien,” Jack wrote.
He signed off with his name and appended it with “Guardian of the Galaxy” and “Fourth Grade.”

Are you cool with writing Pregnant Lena fic? ABO. I have two prompts actually. One is post Season 4 after Lena learns Kara's true identity from Lex. Another one is AU. Human Kara. In this AU Kara is wealthy, married to Siobhan who is infertile. Their marriage is strictly based on business between two families. Kara isn't love with Siobhan but forced to marry her for business reasons. And Kara hires Lena (surrogate mother) to bear her child. Alpha Kara/Omega Lena.
I received these prompts, and I couldn’t get my mind off the second one. I’m not comfortable doing broken marriage/cheating plots, so I messaged @go-anon-universe and we talked about changing that particular detail. So here’s the first tiny bit of the first chapter for this one, hope you like it.
“This is complete bullshit!”
Kara stormed out of the office, drawing the eyes of every employee in the main space. Heads poked up over the tops of cubicles like meerkats on the savannah as the irate alpha stormed past, down the hallway, and into the restroom. She paced the small sitting area outside the toilets, fighting the urge to hurl one of the atrocious pink-upholstered chairs across the room or slam her fist into the closest mirror. It had been years since the last time she did any property damage, but it had also been years since she had been this angry.
The door opened and her aunt entered the room, looking like Kara’s opposite in almost every way. Her blue eyes were cold and calculating where Kara’s were flaming with emotion, her dark hair was down in immaculate curls where Kara’s blonde locks were rapidly escaping the ponytail she kept them in, her suit was impeccably crisp whereas Kara’s blouse and trousers were rumpled from her outburst.
“What?” Kara demanded as her aunt’s passive expression just stoked her furor.
“Do you really think such an outburst will change things?” Astra asked patiently. “If anything it just proves your parents’ point— you aren’t ready.”
Kara snorted. “They’re dead, how could they possibly know if I’m ready or not? And how can you say that I’m not ready? I’ve worked for this company for years, just like they asked. I’ve worked in every department, at every level. I know my employees, I respect my employees, from the custodians who clean up in the evenings and the mail boys who deliver packages to Phipps up there in the executive suite— I don’t like him, but I respect him. How can you say that I’m not ready to lead this company?”
“You’re impulsive,” Astra said evenly. “You charge into quarrels without thought. When you’ve got your mind made up, you refuse to listen to the advice of others. You think of your employees in your decisions, yes, but you often lack the ability to see how your decisions will play out in the long run. It’s not that you’re not a good leader for this company Kara— it’s that you could be better.”
“And you think having a mate and a child would make me better?” Kara demanded.
Astra clenched her hands in thought. “Your parents thought so. I know you weren’t old enough to remember them the way I do, but you’re very similar to Zorel. He was a good leader, but impulsive, smart, respectful, but he lacked vision. When he and Alura married, it changed him, and when they had you… Suddenly he had more to think about than just himself, he had a legacy. I imagine when they wrote this clause, they believed that they would be here with you when this time came, that they would be able to guide you.”
“But they’re not,” Kara said bitterly. “I have you, though. Surely there’s something you can do about this, Aunt Astra.”
Astra sighed. “I’ve spoken to the attorneys. Your parents’ wills are ironclad, Kara. Contesting it would put us in litigation for years, it would mean removing you from the company for that time and leaving you with less than you have now. Not to mention the press for the company and how it would affect our numbers.”
“So the easiest thing to do would be for me to just accept it, is that what you’re saying?” Kara asked.
“You know, having a mate and children isn’t exactly the end of the world,” Astra told her. “If I remember correctly, there was a time when you wanted just that.”
Kara bristled. “Yeah, well, that was a long time ago.”
“To you, perhaps,” Astra shrugged. “Of course, to me it wasn’t very long ago when we were playing hide and seek in the gardens at your father’s estate and you were little more than a flaxen-haired cherub. Now here we are discussing business negotiations and mates.”
Kara sighed, sitting in one of the ugly pink chairs. She pulled her hair loose and pulled off her glasses so she could pinch the bridge of her nose, hoping to alleviate the headache she could feel coming on. “So I have…”
“Three months,” Astra told her. “You must obtain a mate and conceive an heir in three months, or your shares in the company are forfeited.”
“And how exactly do I get that done in three months?” Kara demanded, though her earlier anger had faded slightly.
“Well you’ve known about this clause in your parents’ will since your eighteenth birthday, so forgive me if I don’t pity you for procrastinating,” Astra said. “But if you at least have the mate part, perhaps we can push a bit on the heir part of the contract. Conception can be a tricky thing, balancing heats and ruts and…”
“I’m aware,” Kara grumbled. She stiffened her spine and stood, smoothing down her blouse and trousers. Astra circled around her and began gently pulling her hair back into a neat updo, her long fingers soothing along Kara’s scalp much like she remembered her mother doing when she was a child.
“There,” Astra said as Kara replaced her glasses. “Now, go apologize to Mr. Jones and his associates for your outburst. I won’t have my niece being seen as some beast of an alpha who can’t control her testosterone.”
“Of course,” Kara replied with a sigh. “And Aunt Astra… thank you.”

More headcannons for my single mom/teacher AU because I can
-Kara gave Lena a mug that says “worlds best CEO”
-Once they start dating, Lori will spend the night at Kara’s apartment if Lena’s on a business trip. Lori always gets super upset when Lena leaves, so her and Kara have ice cream Sunday’s and watch Disney movies together.
-Lena is terrible at Monopoly. Lori is great at it.
-Kara leaves little notes in Lori’s lunch box. When she realizes Lena normally forgets to eat, she starts packing her lunches too and leaving her cute little notes.
-Lori sleeps over at Ruby’s house once a week so Kara and Lena can go on a date.
-Lena is “mom” kara is “mama”
-Kara tries to teach Lori how to bake, but they end up destroying Lenas kitchen.
-Alex and Maggie are the cool aunts and they spoil Lori because they can

Beyond Human: DBH
To make up for my ABSOLUTE RADIO SILENCE, I’m going to post some info about this DBH AU I hopefully will be writing. Nothing’s going to be too heavily spoiled, even though these are just notes and I’m still kind of planning things.
-This is actually a combination of Detroit: Become Human and one of David Cage’s earlier games, Omikron: The Nomad Soul. Omikron is a bit of a clusterfuck, admittedly, but it has a cool concept and I think it would work well with DBH’s setting.
-This story is set in the future, FAR after 2035. The planet’s been ravaged by nuclear war and is currently in the middle of a nuclear winter/ice age. To survive, everybody’s living in climate-controlled domes-one of which happens to be in what was formerly Detroit!
-After the nuclear war, the whole United States kind of fell, and it was a while before a coherent government was reformed. This was the United Territories of Canada, and it was meant to mimic America’s democratic government-but it kind of turned into a dystopia. Whoopsies.
-So that means everything kind of sucks, even though it doesn’t seem like it. Everybody’s provided homes and food and water and jobs, you can work and rest at your leisure, healthcare is fantastic, there’s no homelessness, and the technology is really advanced; but there’s a lot of corruption in the government and police force, more people are dying than the said government is willing to admit, and the media is HEAVILY CENSORED. That means you can’t read or listen to or watch anything that has excessive conflict in it because God knows we don’t want to UPSET anybody!
-It’s kind of like Brave New World, actually. People just get drunk all the time and try to distract themselves with mindless movies and music and s e x. Drugs are prohibited, but that hasn’t stopped anybody. Red Ice is a particular favorite among the underclass, due to its sedative effects, but it also has a very high chance of causing your skin to fall off. So.
-(don’t do thirium kids)
-There are humans and androids, but there are also other types of robots that perform different jobs and services. They’re not as human/noid as the androids, so they’re lower on the whole social scale. Think Star Wars.
-The androids actually are on the same social level as humans, and for the most part, human and android interactions have been pretty civil. But slowly and surely, this society has been leaning more towards the androids than the humans-giving them more jobs, showing favoritism to them in social and political situations-and this has caused tensions to rise...
-(A problem I had with DBH was that it was clearly the Civil Rights movement, but with androids. You could change the setting to the 1950s and turn the androids into minorities and almost nothing would change. I know that David Cage wanted to make parallels to racism, but androids are a different SPECIES, and it’s kind of shoddy to just rewrite the Civil Rights movement but with androids. Just make up a new conflict for why your androids are discriminated against, David.)
-The story centers more around Kara, Alice, and the characters they interact with. Conner’s and Marcus’s stories don’t occur until 16 years later. This is because I want to focus more on Kara and give her some love; and her story sort of starts as the catalyst for the deviant rebellion, and for Marcus’s and Connor’s stories in turn.
-Kara is actually an AI that’s able to inhabit different android/robot bodies, making her incredibly versatile and useful in her job. She was told that she was activated to be Alice’s caretaker, but of course, she becomes suspicious later on because why would you waste such advanced AI on housekeeping?
-She’s currently watching over Alice, who was removed from her father Todd’s home and transported to her aunt’s. This is due to the fact that she was being abused, and the police actually DID something about it. She’s currently recovering from the trauma she went through, but her current situation isn’t the most peaceful either, which is why she needs Kara!
-(The reason for this narrative change was because I felt that the domestic abuse shown in DBH could have been written better. It felt more like a plot point, or something meant to be D r A m A t I C and provoke De EP e MO tI On than a respectful portrayal of abuse...I mean, most abuse victims don’t have much of a choice in getting out of their situation, and if you try to portray the opposite in a game like DBH, it could be very harmful.)
-(This article explains it better than I can-https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2017-12-04-detroit-become-human-under-fire-for-controversial-domestic-abuse-scene)
-but anyway
-Alice’s uncle is missing, and she wants Kara to help her find him.
-This, of course, leads to a whole chain of events that help Kara and Alice realize how screwed everything is, and that the corruption of this city runs really, really deep.
-And then they get pulled into a series of ~wacky rebellion antics~.
-Kara, meanwhile, slowly becomes deviant.
-Also, Ralph accompanies the two on their journey at some point. Ralph deserved better. I’m going to give him everything he wants.
Wow. That was a lot. I might have to make another post. Sorry about that!
But anyway, those are my notes on Beyond Human, and I hope you enjoyed reading about them!

DS Trollhunters au
Listen, y’all, I am weak and every piece of media I consume is up to be au-ified.
If you haven’t watched Trollhunters (I don’t blame you, I only did because I’m still off of work for injury) anything beyond the basic set up will be after a cut.
So, Trollhunters is the story of this kid, Jim Lake, Jr
Tumblr media
The thing he’s holding in his hand is the amulet of Merlin, which chose him to be the new Trollhunter after the previous one died. It gives him that armor and sword and does some really cool shit.
The mission of the Trollhunter? To protect the good trolls from the bad ones and keep the humans from learning about trolls and keep this one troll who is, like, the bad of bads, the king of the bad trolls locked up.
Jim is the first human Trollhunter.
In the au, Lucy is Jim.
Lucy finds the amulet on the way to school one day with best friend, Maggie.
They’re both sort of on the outskirts of the school. Lucy only moved to Midvale that year, when her father got stationed to a nearby base. Maggie moved there the year before to live with her aunt. Their houses are maybe a block apart, and both spent much of Lucy’s first summer there in the library. By the time school started, they were best friends and it was ‘too late’ for the other kids to ‘warn’ Lucy about what they had learned about Maggie through Facebook stalking.
(not that Lucy didn’t know, they both came out to each other that summer)
So, Lucy finds the amulet on the way to school. Or, well, it calls out to her and she stops to investigate, to Maggie’s annoyance. Lucy puts it in her bag and the two finally get to school (late)
At school, Alex is one of the more popular girls. The teachers all love her. She seems to have a solid group of friends, and is a leader on the debate team. She doesn’t seem to even know who Maggie and Lucy are, but, impressed with Lucy during a classroom debate, invites her to join.
Lucy can’t help but say yes.
(Lucy and Maggie both have a crush on her and they both tease each other for their crush on her)
(Alex, of course, has a crush on them as well, but doesn’t know what to do about it)
After school that day, Lucy is approached by two trolls, J’onn and M’gann, and taken to Hearthstone Trollmarket.
Honestly, plotwise, there’s a lot going on as Lucy learns to be the Trollhunter, and balances her new double life, and tries to add the debate team on top of it all.
Lillian Luthor is Mr. Strickler, one of Lucy’s teachers who starts to get friendly with her dad, and is revealed to be a changling troll.
Also a changling? Kara, who is an infant. Lucy tries to stop the change, but fails.
As the story goes, Lucy struggles. Eventually Alex is brought in on the whole ‘Trollhunter’ thing when goblins target her (this is also when she learns that ‘Kara’ is not Kara)
They prevent the first attempt to free Non (??? maybe? dunno) from the Darklands where he has been imprisoned.
Later, Lucy goes into the Darklands to rescue actual Kara after promising Alex she would. (And a bunch of other reasons, like feeling like she has to prove herself as Trollhunter, to herself and her trainers)
Through all of this Director Sanvers starts to happen. Maggie and Lucy learn that Alex mostly puts up a front at school, to keep her mom off her back and the other kids from staring. She comes out to them at some point.
There is also an underground society - The Janus Order - that is made up of Changlings, and would be Cadmus. They work towards freeing king bad Non (like, really note sure about Non here, but I dunno? maybe just keep him as Gumar? Maybe Rhea? no clue)
Late in the story, it’s revealed that Lucy’s father is part of a human task force with plans to completely eradicate the trolls, and that the Trollhunter is on the top of their list.

What other interdimensional friends might Cadmus!Alex make?
i feel like cadmus!alex’s adventures around the multiverseis verging on au of an au (that i haven’teven written yet) territory, but ah well
caitlin snow (e-1)- cait and alex??? bffs.they watch netflix together and commit petty crimes, and also one time theytried to bake and they only ripped a smallhole in the universe so alex counts it a success. they just get each other (which is not surprising, obviously. @ arrowverse writers: let! alex! and! caitlin! be! friends!) andsometimes it’s just nice to be with someone who doesn’t expect too much of you,and who doesn’t disapprove of your bad ideas because they’ve probably alreadythought of worse ones
dinah laurel lance (e-2)- so siren is very aggressively not alex’s friend, andalex just loves her?? so much?? because goddoes alex know about comparing yourself (and being compared to) the personyou could’ve been. also siren can shatter things with her voice and it’s supercool
cynthia reynolds (e-19)-  okay sothese two had a bit of a rough start. basically, alex was universe hopping and makinga general mess of things and cynthia got called in to tell alex to like, stopdoing that please?
alex: stop me then coward
cynthia: i could literally crush your entire nervous systemwith a thought. i could scatter your atoms across the multiverse. i couldprobably stop you from being born
alex, putting her fists up: them’s fightin’ words
cynthia: …….i will killyou
alex: i’d like to see you try!!
cynthia: ?????
so eventually cynthia’s like hmm no thank you and decides to let alex off with a warning, andthey’re not exactly friends but they cross paths every now and again andsometimes they get coffee and sometimes they fight crime. it’s a pretty chillrelationship
cisco ramon (e-1)- so cisco already knew about this alex from cait andcynthia, and he actually first properly meets her while he’s on her earth and heinstantly likes her?? i mean, we all know about cisco’s inexplicable fondnessfor a troublemaker, and also cisco, alex, lena, kara, and winn make an amazing scienceteam?? also she kind of reminds him of lisa. in a good way. speaking of
lisa snart (e-????)- the lisa snart she meets is actually a superhero????she’s still very much lisa snart though, and there’s basically a lot of badpuns and flirting while lisa tries to stop alex from commiting crimes. alex hastried to explain that she’s not actually a supervillain, but like she tried toexplain that while she was in the middle of a robbery, so
kal-el/clark kent (e-???)- so the clark that alex runs into is one whose pod gotknocked off course instead of kara’s, so he’s about twelve?? thirteen??(consistent timeline what consistent timeline) and alex takes one look at himand is like i’m your aunt!!!
everyone else: that’s not really how it works
alex, hands over clark’s ears: shhh
and clark adoresher, because she knows all the tricks to get around kara’s supersenses, and shetreats him like a normal teenager instead of superpowered toddler (his words),and also she gives him a list of her favourite foods so he can bribe his world’s alex whenever he’s in trouble
harley quinn (e-???)- if you think that alex isn’t friends with at leastone harley quinn then you are wrong. it’s actually kind of weird for harley, because she’s met her earth’s alex danvers, and she’s just a very normaldoctor??? and then you have this alex, who’s sometimes so like harley that it hurts, and just yeah. they like each othera lot. ivy’s a little less enamoured of alex, but after a few months she nolonger tries to kill her on sight, which is progress
root (e-???)- how did this even happen
sara lance (e-1)- alex runs into captain sara lance exactly once, and theless said about that day the better. some parts of the time bureau are still on fire

Female Character Meme
Rules: List ten of your favorite female characters in different fandoms. I bent this rule through Jesuitically counting different Tolkien works as different fandoms.
Tagged by @cycas hey Harriet Vane! yeah I love her too . . .
1) Kara “Starbuck” Thrace, Battlestar Galactica: reckless competence in her profession, total disaster in her feelings. A punch-throwing, hard drinking, competitive, messy-crying person, hiding a well of sadness and depression and apartness inside that sometimes you can see on her face. I love that the story never tries to "fix" her.
2) Donna Noble, Doctor Who: one of the ultimate companionate cross-gender friendships of all time.* I want her to ride forever together with the Doctor, making each other laugh, chiding and insulting one another. I love that she gets to be clumsy and have bad taste and indifference to proper/rich/in-group/cool standards and be both lovely and awkward and full of wonder and honesty that puts a curb on the Doctor's more frightening propensities
(* massive asterisk for the whole concept of gender for a serial reincarnator but that's another topic)
3) Storm, X-Men (comics, not movieverse): way before her time, the antithesis of the Action Girl trope. Iconic POC style-setter and outsider to United States cultural assumptions, and the better for it. Powerful yet empathetic, able to nurture without derailing her whole identity into care-taking, so NOT tortured by her natural role as a leader. Effortlessly passing the Bechdel Test wherever she roams with a river of different friendships with women heroes, girl sidekick, rival/hate/love with punk girl outlaws, and more.
4) Eowyn, Lord of the Rings: she and Galadriel stand at opposite ends of a spectrum, because Eowyn starts the story with one of the shittiest hands in the whole canon. How wonderfully eloquent she is about it. She is the female embodiment of gallantry, of acting with competence and determination and loyalty and honor even when it looks like there will be no reward at all except a courage no one will live to remember.
5) Tauriel, Hobbit filmverse: because of her stalwart anti-isolationist politics. Because she is realistic about the utter disaster that late Third Age Middle-earth is becoming, and wants her people to stop sticking their heads in tree boles and denying what's happening. Because she's willing to lose her boss/patron's favor by telling him he's wrong. Because she gracefully handles her guy friend's discomfort with her romantic life and goes her own way.  Because she is not afraid to experience the amused, giddy affection that Kili brings out in her.
(Yes, I am excavating a coherent figure out of the mere shreds that the film gives us. Bite me.)
6) Galadriel: The Silmarillion, Lord of the Rings, Unfinished Tales: she fought the long defeat. If I wrote a lot of comments about Galadriel they would be weak because she's one of those "I just secretly cherish every line about her" characters, whom I can't summarize because I would cut and paste every single snippet about her in canon.
She and Elrond are the only two Elves whose politics about other cultures I can stand (no wait, her brother Finrod too).
Even though Jackson's attempt to include the White Council vs Necromancer in his Hobbit films was a steaming mess of incoherence, I utterly get why he wanted to.
Possibly worth it for Galadriel and Gandalf mentally shit-talking  Saruman while he sits in front of them with his lips moving.
7) Jane Eyre, Jane Eyre: from the moment she throws that book at her bully and throws down on her hypocritical aunt and the cruel head of the institution for producing submissive girls. Through telling Rochester that though she is plain and poor her soul is as great as his, to telling scary religious "nice guy" SaintJohn to go fuck himself and refusing to sacrifice her sexuality for a righteous social role.
8) Fa Mulan, Mulan: the Disney hero I wish existed in my childhood. Ride on, you gender-bending national hero, excellent daughter, and all around good friend.
9) Dana Sculley, the X-Files: pants-suit wearing, gun toting, science-degree having, order-maintaining skeptic who nonetheless is able to engage empathetically with her dream-driven, eccentric, impulsive, nerdy soulmate.
10) Olivia Dunham, Fringe: what a wonderful knight you are, Olivia, riding through the gross-out sci-fi crime procedural of this cult show, developing your hidden gifts and speaking defiantly to your boss while adopting your makeshift family of Crazy Scientist Dad, Hot Trickster Son, Innocent Gay Science Assistant, and Cow. Oh, and meeting your Dark AU Self and ultimately befriending her.
(Ok, I cannot make the case that Fringe was a great show or anything, I just loved Olivia)

Well it happened. They started playing christmas songs at work. Only half way through november.
So like any sane rational person I tried to distract myself thinking about writing ideas. I had no luck with ideas for my original work that I’m using for nanowrimo, so I moved onto ideas for fics pretty fast. I came up up with two distractions.
The first one made me flash back to when I was 15 so violently that I almost wished I had caved and started singing along to the christmas songs.
A Supergirl, Supercorp, Puella Magi Madoka Magica AU
The Second idea was much less angsty and far more fun.
A Supergirl Waitress AU as in Waitress the musical. Could work for most pairings tbh but in this case I was thinking of Supercorp.
If you’re curious I’ll explain the thinking behind both under the readmore. Both explanations will assume some knowledge of the originals the AU’s are based on.
Just know that even if I kinda want to write these, I doubt I’ll get around to it until way into next year if at all. I have nanowrimo going on now, supersanta in december, and I still want to finish a whole bunch of other stuff such as You Set It On Fire, and Mind Reader Lena AU.
First up.
Puella Magi Supergirl Magica. Alternatively, Angst City Bitches.
Lena as Homura, Kara as Madoka, Cat as Mami, Alex and Sayaka, Maggie as Kyoko and of course who better for Mon-El to be than Kyubey?
Honestly it scared me how well that one fell into place. Warning for character deaths. Alex and Cat die. I don’t remember if Kara’s last wish brings em back later, I’m pretty sure it does but for a while there they are dead. From a technical standpoint Kara kinda dies too.
Lena is lonely, smart, and willing to go above and beyond for the one singular friend who actually bothers to show her basic human kindness. Perfect candiate for the one who repeats the timeline over and over again trying to save Kara.
Because Kara would start as human in this AU we don’t have to kill her parents, she just gets to have a nice normal life, which makes her even more of a puppy personified then she already is. Her herioc heart that just wants to help everyone is very Madoka. Even if we were to kill her folks anyway but have her be raised by the Kents. The point is, Kara is a sweet heart who would totally end up with her ultimate wish being for Witches not o be a thing, even at great person cost.
Alex. The girl who wants the people she loves to be happy even if it means she isn’t. Instead of some violin boy, we have Eliza being depressed as fuck after Jeremiah died. She wishes him back as her contract to becoming a magical girl and it helps her mother but neither of them really pay much attention to her. Her wish brought him back to help her mother so that’s his focus, and in return Eliza is only functioning again because he’s back so he is hers. The feeling of getting abandoned ultimately leads to her getting witchified.
Cat is her witty, perceptive, mother hen even when trying not to be self, and just as with season 2 of Supergirl keeping her around would have kept so many of their problems from happening, which is why just as with how she was only there for the start of s2, she’s only around for the start of the story before the whole getting beheaded thing.
Maggie gets kicked out of hime just the same as in supergirl, only this time she didn’t have an aunt to turn to, and ends up starving and dying just like Kyoko, which is why desperate to survive she made a deal with Mon-El.
And of course Kyubey/Mon-el. The one who follows Kara around, lies to her about his intentions until she’s too involved to back out, lets himself into her house uninvited, and is blatantly using her up for his own ends. There could not be a better candidate for Kyubey, I mean. Was I describing Mon-El in season 2 or how Kyubey treats Madoka in PMMM? You just don’t know!
Of course to make it slightly less painful than the original work, I would suggest Lena using some time travel bullshit to make a new wish of her own at the same time Kara makes her ultimate wish, so that she and Kara get to be together after Kara fixes everything.
So yeah that was the horrible no good, war flashback indusing idea, which was actually kinda cool in a painful way. Now to the nice, fun idea.
Second up
The Supergirl Waitress AU Supercorp edition.
Kara (Jenna) is unhappily married to abusive asshat “Mike” (Earl), when she unexpectedly falls pregnant she starts having and affair with her doctor Lena (Dr Pomatter) who is in an emotionally dead relationship with Veronica Sinclair (Docs Wife). In my version Lena leaves her Veronica to be with Kara rather than Kara ending their affair because being a mother an the other woman is too complicated.
The rest of cast can pretty well be whoever, but he’s my first pass at a line up, some personalities may not match up, but hopefully you’ll see how the roles could work.
Winn is Becky, having an affair with James who is Cal. (Suggested off screen spouses are Siobhan for Winn and Lucy for James, but really use whoever, or don’t bother to have them as an affair at all, just say they wanted to keep it on the DL)
Alex -I haven’t had a date in 2 years, and never realised I was gay until I was 30- Danvers as Dawn the girl who has never been in a relationship before.
Who gets Ogie is kind of a toss up, like I get Maggie would fit here just fine, but I kinda like the idea of Sam as Ogie better.
Cat as Diner owner Joe. Or J’onn. But I like the idea of Cat better. J’onn can just have his own new role as weekend cook, or regular customer, or general manager when Cat is out of town. Idk.
Jess is Nurse Norma and entirely over Lena and Kara thinking they’re in any way subtle. At least she gets pie.

1, 4, 9, 12, 10, 6,
1. If you’re an author, how many WIPs do you currently have? (Be honest!)
Just one, actually.
4. What fandom’s/ship’s fan fiction do you read the most?
Supergirl seems to have been my most read fandom of late. Mostly genfic/danvers sisters stuff.
9. Fake dating or arranged marriage?
Fake date, definitely. Arranged marriage fics never quite work for me. Both situations are very contrived, but somehow the arranged marriage ones always feel too contrived.
12. Friends with benefits or secret dating?
Secret dating.
10. Mutual pining or enemies to friends to lovers?
Enemies to lovers. Which has the bonus of being an excellent opportunity for secret dating!
6. What’s the last thing you read that made you laugh?
I...don’t remember? I don’t think I’ve read any humor fic in awhile. Probably something from the Cool Aunt Kara AU.

#SanversWeek day 7 bonus fic: soulmates AU.
Reposting this because for some reason it didn’t show up in the tags (again).
Since a lot of people on both tumblr and ao3 requested a part two from Maggie’s perspective, here it is. Does this still count as a fic for #SanversWeek @queercapwriting? Yes? Yes.
You can read this seperately, but it makes more sense to read both parts in order. Part one can be found here: tumblr - ao3.
Thanks to @bruisedcaffeinatedbitch for the quick beta and for being awesome.
Warning: mentions of homophobia (not a lot though and only at the beginning, it turns fluffy real quick).
Read on ao3.
For most of her life, Maggie Sawyer doesn’t believe in soulmates. This may or may not have something to do with the fact that by the time she’s celebrating her eighteenth birthday, living with an aunt after being kicked out by her father for being gay, having lost her entire childhood and all of her friends, not once in her life have words appeared on her skin. Everyone, including her parents, tells her it’s because she’s a lesbian and therefor sinful, a disgrace, so she doesn’t get a soulmate.
“Your love isn’t real anyway, so why would you get one?” a random guy from her history class asks her once during a party at some other guy’s house. It’s a few minutes past ten and she’s checking herself for marks in the full-length mirror in the hallway. She turns around to find him smirking at her, his eyes sweeping up and down her body as if he’s deciding whether or not she’s worthy of being looked at, whether or not she’s worthy of… other things, and it takes all of her self-control not to tackle him to the ground right then and there. If she did that she’d be the one in trouble, not him, so why bother.
She tries to tell herself that they’re all wrong, that she is not. But since no words come and since there is no one to tell her otherwise, she believes them.
That is until she gets a scholarship and leaves Bluesprings, Nebraska for what it is, packing the only few things she still has and moving to a college in Indianapolis. There she meets another gay person for the first time in her life and to Maggie’s utter surprise, he has a soulmate. And it’s a guy.
From that moment on she starts to have hope again. Maybe gay people do get soulmates, maybe she has one, too. No words come, though. Every single night, just after ten, she checks. But every single night there’s nothing there.
She still dates in college. Nothing serious, just flings. Every time a girl asks for a second date, or a first one after they’ve slept together, she explains that she’s waiting for her soulmate to come along (because she has to have one, right?), and every time they ask her who it is or what she’s like, she makes something up, because she simply has no idea.
For twenty-two years nothing happens. For twenty-two years she’s skeptical towards the whole idea of soulmates, towards love, not sure if it’s for her, if she even wants it anymore. But then, one night, just two days before her 23rd birthday, the words are there.
It’s the middle of the night and she heads to the bathroom of her one-person dorm room to brush her teeth, all sleepy and weary and exhausted. Kathy – or was it Kelly? Sam? She doesn’t remember – remains asleep in her bed as she opens the door, stepping inside and grabbing her toothbrush. When she looks at herself in the mirror she doesn’t see it at first. But when her eyes shift to a spot just above her right collarbone, she freezes.
For about 3.8 seconds she stares at herself, before snapping out of it and practically climbing on top of the sink to get a closer look.
They’re small, and kind of squiggly, but they’re there, clear and prominent.
“Oh, my God,” she screams, and then she starts to cry, running her fingers over them, time and time again, because yes, she has a soulmate, and no, she’s not alone.
They were wrong, they were all wrong.
A few moments later Kathy – or Kelly, or Sam, what is her name, goddamnit – comes running into the bathroom carrying a baseball bat, still half-asleep and confused as hell, asking what is going on, did someone break in? but all Maggie can do is cry and run her fingers over her shoulder and even though this means Maggie belongs to someone else, not her, she celebrates with her, at two in the morning, in a tiny bathroom of a dorm in Indianapolis.
The first words are That’s stupid and Maggie has never been happier because her girl has attitude. She doesn’t sleep that night, and the next day all she can think about is her, and who she is and what she’s like – she can finally answer those questions with well, she’s got attitude, God, she’s so happy – and she spends the entire day being nervous and fidgety, eager to find out what words will appear on her skin that night.
She counts down the hours until the clock strikes ten and when it does she sees them again; words, so many words.
In vivo whole blood is assumed to be an incompressible Newtonian fluid, however, this assumption fails when considering forward flow within arterioles.
She smiles – God, she really cannot stop smiling – and shakes her head.
“Nerd.”
It continues. Every night she waits, and every night there’s words, and every night she smiles and goes to bed all giddy and happy and already so in love. Even when it’s simple stuff like Can you pass me the milk? or Twenty-five minutes is not that long! or God, I can’t believe you sometimes.
She learns things about her, a lot of things, during her last years of college, during the police academy, during her time in the field as a rookie and later as a detective. She has a sister, for example, named Kara (Kara, you’re my sister, and I love you, no matter what), her relationship with her mother is complicated (She has always come down hard on me for not protecting you), she works for a secret government organization called the DEO that Maggie knew was real (We’re the DEO, we don’t exist), and she is fiercely protective of the people she cares about (I got you and I will bring you back safe, sir and Either I come back with my sister, or I don’t come back at all).
And eventually, she learns her name.
I’m Alex, by the way.
It’s as if the words are spoken directly to her, as if she’s introducing herself, and even though Maggie knows she isn’t, it sends chills down her spine nonetheless the first time she reads them. She runs the name over in her head a million times before saying it out loud to herself, and once she does it sounds almost surreal.
She tries to find girls named Alex, that have a sister named Kara, but however much she searches and asks around, she’s unable to find anything (which makes sense since she’s a secret agent and all – how cool is that, by the way?).
But that changes when she’s twenty-six and decides to move from Gotham to National City to become a part of the NCPD’s Science Division. During her third week on the job the president is attacked, and just when she’s started to analyze the crime scene a tall and drop-dead gorgeous federal agent walks up to her, all cocky and with attitude, introducing herself as Alex Danvers, and Maggie has to physically fight herself from actually squealing and jumping into this woman’s arms, because is this her? This has to be her. Oh, my God, what if it’s her?
The rest of the day goes by way too slowly for Maggie’s liking, but when the clock finally passes ten, all of her suspicions and hopes and dreams are confirmed because her shoulder reads I think I met her today.

Hogwarts AU- Sanvers week Day 4
Holy heck guys I’m back! Day four featuring nb!alex!
Let me know what you think!
Maggie wakes to the sounds of rustling a few beds down from hers. She curses her light sleeping and goes to turn over to fall back asleep before she hears scared whimpers coming from the same bed. She is unfortunately over-familiar with nightmares at this point in her life, having had her fair share the two summers ago when she was kicked out of her home. Being magical her parents could handle, hell her mother’s sister was a muggleborn too, but a line was drawn when they caught her kissing the girl she had brought home for the beginning of break. She was told to pack her bags and go, luckily her aunt took her in. Ever since nightmares were a common occurrence for the girl. The things her parents said, and their faces were impossible to forget, no matter how hard she tried.
Another cry stirs her from her reminiscence. Looking across the dormitory, Maggie makes the split second decision to help whoever it was who was suffering from bad dreams. Tracing the source of the noise Maggie finds herself at the foot of the Hufflepuff team’s star chaser’s bed. Kara Danvers, if Maggie was remembering correctly, she knows that something big had happened to her parents a few years back, but doesn’t exactly know what.
Leaning over the bed Maggie lets her hand hover over Kara’s shoulder and lets out a whisper, careful not to wake the other girls in the dormitory. “Hey, hey Kara, it’s Maggie, you’re dreaming, you gotta-”
Maggie is cut off as Kara startles awake, curling in on herself and her eyes open wide. Maggie lowers her hands and crouches next to the bed, entering Kara’s line of sight.
“Hey, it’s me Maggie, I don’t know if we ever properly met but it sounded like you were in trouble and I wanted to help out,” Maggie’s voice stays low and soothing as she talks to her. “Do you want to talk about it? Or I could leave you alone if you want I don’t want to assume-”
Kara once again cuts her off by shaking her head. Maggie, thinking she has overstepped, rises to walk back to bed when Kara’s hand slowly reaches towards hers.
“You can stay,” Kara says, voice still full of sleep and a little bit of fear. “I’m gonna go for a walk if you want to come, try to clear my head.”
Maggie nods her assent and both girls stand, Maggie returning to her bed to pull on slippers before they go to the spiral staircase that leads to the common room.
They are quiet until half way down the staircase when Kara speaks. “We just gotta find Alex so I know they’re okay then I can probably go back to bed.”
Maggie nods a little confused, still a bit groggy from just having woken. It’s not until Kara starts pulling open the door to the school corridor that Maggie seems to catch up. “Wait, Alex like your sister Alex? Like badass Slytherin prefect Alex, the one that knocked out Douchewell Lord at dinner three weeks ago?”
“Sibling,” Kara emphasizes with a meaningful look, “and yeah, they’re on patrol tonight, it won’t be too long ‘til I find them,” her voice lowers as she starts to mumble insecurely, “I mean if you don’t want to get in trouble I understand, I just really don’t want to be alone right now and I know we don’t really know each other…” Kara’s ramble tapers off, her bottom lip jutting out as she looks dejectedly at Maggie.
“Hey no, it’s fine,” Maggie quickly reassures. “I’m sure we won’t get in trouble, your sibling, they,” Maggie pauses slightly to reaffirm the pronouns, at Kara’s nod she continues, “They can be pretty intimidating, I’m sure nobody’s gonna let their kid sister get in trouble.”
Kara quickly smiles and gives a dorky thumbs up before exiting the door and stepping into the corridor.
————-
Maggie decides she may have been a little presumptuous in assuming they wouldn’t get in trouble. Kara might not have, but Maggie on her own? Looks like it’s headed that way.
Kara had ducked into the restroom, something about too many pumpkin pasties at dinner disagreeing with nightmares and then a spontaneous midnight walk. So now Maggie was stuck, alone, in the hallway. Kara had locked her out of the restroom. All Maggie could do was hope nobody came across her.
Of course her luck couldn’t be that good. Not a minute after Kara enters the restroom, Alex Danvers, who they’d spent the last twenty minutes looking for to no avail, rounds the corner and spots Maggie instantly. Maggie, knowing she was caught, speaks up first, not even attempting to run. “Hey, you’re Alex right? Funny story-”
“I don’t want to hear it. It’s hours past curfew, I’m going to have to deduct points,” Alex says, pulling a scroll out of their robes and getting ready to jot down her information.
“Hey, that’s not fair!” Maggie bristles at Alex’s stern tone, “We’re the same age, just because you’re a prefect doesn’t mean- “ Maggie stammers as she searches for words, “doesn’t give you the authority, the jurisdiction to treat me like that.”
Alex looks up from the scroll, their eyes locking with Maggie’s and their mouth sets in a cocky grin, “But you see, I am a prefect so my jurisdiction,” they say the word in a mocking tone, “goes as far as I say it does.”
“Uh, I wouldn’t go in there for a bit if I were you.” Kara chooses this moment to walk out of the bathroom, hand on her stomach. Looking up she quickly spots Alex, but seems to miss the tension in the air. “Alex!” She says as her face lights up, “There you are, we’ve been looking all over for you. Did you guys change up the rotation?” She walks towards her sibling who, in the surprise of seeing Kara, has lowered the scroll and quill in their hands, allowing Kara to bring them into a hug, her chin resting on their shoulder.
Alex’s face flits with confusion, before they push it aside and return the hug in earnest. The previous conflict in the back of their mind. “Hey,” They say softly, hand beginning to rub slow, calming circles on Kara’s back, “Nightmares again?”
Kara doesn’t change her position but nods from her place on their shoulder, turning her head into their neck to breathe into their hair.
“It’s okay. I’m here, I’m safe,” Alex says, a practiced routine, familiar with their sister’s nightmares, “Eliza’s safe, she’s at home. She’s coming to Hogsmeade in three weeks to meet us. It’s okay we’re safe, you’re safe.”
Kara continues to breathe deeply, calming herself with her sibling’s presence. Eventually, she detaches, but brings a hand down to Alex’s, removing the forgotten quill, shifting it to her own hand as she interlocks their fingers with those of her free hand. She turns to Maggie, who had been standing awkwardly to the side during the interaction and smiles. “Okay so Maggie this is Alex. Alex, Maggie. She woke me up from my nightmare and agreed to help me find you. See Maggie, I told you we would find them!” Kara says switching between talking to both people.
Maggie smiles a bit and runs a hand through the back of her hair, stopping and rubbing at the back of her neck. “Heh, yeah Kara, we found them all right.” Turning to Alex she says, “As I was saying Danvers, your sister recruited me to help find you, guess she didn’t want to wander around the castle at night alone.”
Alex looks sheepish as they take in the news, their sight falling to the floor, embarrassed. “Yeah, okay, that makes sense, especially considering you already knew my name, I don’t think we’ve met.”
“I mean, I think we had a few first year classes, but no, not formally,” Maggie smiled, kind of enjoying Alex’s awkwardness, “But I knew who you were Alex. A girl would have to be oblivious to miss someone like you.”
Alex looks up, a bit confused, but smiles, “Yeah, I mean, you’re pretty hard to miss yourself,” Alex says, their smile becoming little lopsided with uncertainty.
Maggie tilts her head to the left, softly smiling, and just looks at Alex for a minute before turning back to Kara, “Hey, since you found your sibling and their safe and all, you think we should head back to the dorms? I kind of have a killer herbology quiz tomorrow.”
Kara nods and tugs Alex’s hand along as they start down the hallway. The walk is completed in comfortable silence. Alex leaves them by the kitchens, after trying, with moderate success, to make Kara promise to stay out of trouble. The siblings part with a hug, Alex and Maggie wave awkwardly at each other before they turn and continue down the hallway to finish their rounds for the night.
—-
It’s been two days since Alex actually met Maggie Sawyer, and they’re still embarrassed about it. They’d been overly cocky, they know it, there’s just a lot on their plate right now, they were distracted.
Kara taps the table next to them to get them to look up, pulling them from their thoughts. “Hey,” she says meeting their gaze, “Are you all done, wanna hit the library?”
Alex looks down at their half eaten lunch and nods, a divination assignment had been stressing them out, they’d lost their appetite a bit. “Hey there’s no Quidditch today right?”
Kara nods as they start to get up and make their way out of the great hall. “Gryffindor and Ravenclaw have the pitch today, we’re good.”
“Cool, cool,” Alex nods before continuing, “Hey can we swing by the dorms, I wanna put on my binder for a bit today.”
“Yeah sure.”
After their quick detour they make it to the library. Alex occasionally brushing their hands down their now flat chest. The binder was a recent addition to their wardrobe, and the novelty had yet to wear off, especially since they’d gotten some slim cut shirts that were tailored just right for the desired effect. Alex was mindlessly following Kara and hadn’t realized who was at the table with them until they were putting down their books.
“Kara…” They whispered lowly, discreetly trying to get their sister’s attention.
“Shush it’s fine,” Kara says as she waves her sibling off and addresses the third party at the table, “Hey Maggie, how’s it going? Alex tagged along I hope that’s cool.”
Maggie looks up from the mountain of textbooks in front of her and smiles, “Hey Kara, yeah that’s fine. Hey Alex.”
“Hey,” Alex says nervously as they settle into their chair and start to pull out their books.
The trio quickly falls into silent study, each working on their own thing, quick questions asked back and forth the only real communication between the group. Twenty minutes in Kara goes off in search of a book on ancient civilization, one buried so deep, the card for the card datalog was dated 1502.
With Alex and Maggie left alone at the table, Alex is the first to speak up, “So uh, how was your herbology quiz?”
“Ugh, that. It was okay I guess, I’m pretty sure I did well, but all the studying was torture.” Maggie groaned, then looked up at Alex, “You remembered?”
“I mean, yeah. Like I said the other night y’know, I notice you.” Alex said a slight blush creeping up their neck.
“That’s cute,” Maggie says.
“I’m not cute.” Alex huffs crossing their arms in front of their chest.
“Yeah you are,” Maggie insists, tilting her head to one side in a way Alex was beginning to find endearing.
“Hey, about that other night,” Alex says, dropping their arms and leaning in. “I was a jerk, I’m sorry. Ever since Dad went missing last year, my mom’s been riding me to be perfect and I uh, I guess I took it too far. We lost the Quidditch match the day before and she gave me heck for it I was still a little sore from that. But I was still out of line and I should have listened to you, I’m working on it so yeah, sorry.”
“Thanks,” Maggie said catching Alex’s eyes, “I really appreciate the apology, I’ve had my own experience with parental pressures and it’s not fair, you don’t deserve to be treated like that.” Maggie smirks and continues, “Plus, that little authority act you had going on there? Very cute, I like someone with a bit of spunk.”
“I said I’m not cute. I’m authoritative and intimidating.” They puff up their chest in a way that Maggie can only describe as cute, and their lips set in a pout.
“Yeah okay, whatever you say Danvers.” She chuckles.
Alex relaxes their chest and smiles easily. “I mean, if it’s you calling me cute I might not mind so much.” They look down briefly at the table and looks back up, “Hey, uh, would you want to go to Hogsmeade this weekend?”
“Well I was already planning on it Danvers,” Maggie says with a smirk.
“With me, would you go with me?” Alex stammers, the blush readily returning to their cheeks and down their neck. “I was thinking we could go to The Three Broomsticks. They just got this new muggle game called pool I wanna try”
“Oh you’re on Alex,” She seems to think a bit before adding with a wink, “It’s a date.”
At the wink Alex loses their ability to think clearly, still trying to find words to say when Kara eventually returns with a behemoth of a book on wizarding culture in Mesopotamia, setting it down and looking confused at the blushes of both her sibling and her new friend.

the ways we meet: kara/m’gann + bartender au
Pairing: Kara Danvers/M’gann M’orzz Summary: Megan is a bar owner and a rowdy group of college students make their way in. And NO she does NOT think that birthday girl is cute. A/N: soulmate au in which when you make physical contact with your soulmate, you hear their thoughts
ao3 link
Megan knows that evening is gonna be hell when Mike calls out last minute on her and no one is there to help cover. It’s just her and Harley at the bar, who spends half the time flirting with customers. And it gets a hell of a lot worse when a giant group of what looks to be college students comes out to celebrate a birthday.
Megan has to suddenly prepare 10 drinks in a row, when she gets an order for a round of shots.
By no means does she feel like a youth anymore, but she’s lucky to keep up with her workout regimen to run drinks quickly to nearby tables and intercept used glasses to clean.
She places the bin of glasses at the end of the bar for Pamela to grab before making her way to the bar.
A frat boy excitedly tells a story and whips his hand back, nearly hitting Megan in the face with his beer. Luckily, she catches him by the wrist and the only victim of spilt beer is his frat bro telling him to watch out.
Megan warns the guys to be more care and walks around them.
There’s another crowd: the birthday crowd. Megan has been keeping an eye on them in case they get rowdy (not that the birthday girl was cute or anything--Megan tries not to notice considering the girl just turned 21 and everyone's been buying her drinks).
The crowd starts yelling, “CHUG CHUG CHUG CHUG!” And Megan pauses as two girls with half pitchers worth of Harley’s Martian Mixer are starting to sit up straighter and straighter in their high chairs, glancing at each other as they intensely drink.
Megan steps in a little closer because the blonde one looks dangerously close to standing to one up her red haired opponent.
They’re neck and neck with a quarter of the half pitcher left without any signs of stopping. And the blonde rises up, standing on the foot rails of the high chair. Down to the wire and Megan is also wondering who is going to win. There’s a loud cheer that distracts her and suddenly they both slam their half pitchers down.
“I beat you, Alex! Suck on that! WHOOOOOO!” the blonde hollers.
“Shut up, Kara, I totally had that!”
Kara is happily laughing, when she leans in to rub her nose against Alex’s when the chair tips.
Megan curses, she doesn’t need a lawsuit today. She lunges forward quickly, arms outstretched to catch Kara as she starts to fall. She barely makes it because the younger woman is a bit heavier than she looks.
Megan catches her in the nick of time.
Wow, are you my guardian angel? Kara looks up at Megan through her glasses with wide baby blue eyes.
Megan tries not to stare because the first thing that comes to mind is. Oh god, she’s just a child, Megan.
Kara pouts at Megan. “I am not a child! I just turned 21!” she exclaims as she tightens her grip around Megan’s biceps. Oh wow, she’s super strong.
It’s then that Megan realizes what’s happened because half of their conversation are their thoughts.
She’s my soulmate! They both think simultaneously.
Megan stands Kara upright quickly and moves to grab the empty half pitchers. If she can disappear quickly enough, she can forget that her soulmate is 15 fucking years younger than you! She makes her way quickly to the bar, where she should get back to her post.
“Hey! Hey!”
Megan tries to ignore it because she is either hearing Kara in her head or it’s actually happening. Regardless, my soulmate is way too young. Is this some sort of joke?
“Megan! Come on, talk to me!” Kara says as she tries to fit herself through the crowd at the bar.
Megan shakes her head. This is crazy. It’s not a good time. She shuffles to take more drink orders. “This is really not a good time!”
“But when will it be? I think finding your soulmate is pretty important!” Kara says excitedly as she follows Megan along the patron side of the bar.
Megan moves faster though, dancing around Harley pouring shots.
“Come on! You’re not that old, Megan, stop freaking out!” Kara yells over the bar.
“Not that old?” Megan asks incredulously.
“Yeah, you’re like what? 4 years older?” Kara deadpans, catching her breath because Megan’s finally stopped moving.
Megan glares at Kara. “That’s sweet of you but honey, I’m 15 years older than you,” she throws back sarcastically.
Kara melts, with her glossy eyes and pink cheeks. “Aww, you called me honey already,” she coos affectionately. “I love that.”
Megan shakes her head, letting out a laugh. That was cute.
“You think I’m cute!” Kara beams.
Megan purses her lips in frustration. “Get out of my head,” she says.
“Or what?” You’ll come punish me? Kara wiggles her eyebrows playfully.
Megan’s eyes widen at the surprisingly salacious comment from her seemingly innocent looking soulmate. Stop it. Megan puts her hands on her hips.
Kara pouts. “Come on, you’re my soulmate! This warrants a celebration, we should sit down, talk, hold hands, or something!”
“You are literally here celebrating your birthday and I am manning the bar,” Megan reminds.
“Let me buy you a drink then!” Kara offers quickly.
Megan laughs harder than before. “I own the bar, Kara. I can have as many drinks as I want.”
“Then you can have one with me.” Kara hops a little excitedly when a seat opens up and she sits down.
“You’re not going to let this go are you?”
“Nope! You’re my soulmate and I am nothing if not persistent.” Kara drums her hands on the bar as she looks up and down the rows of alcohol. “So are we going to do this?”
Megan huffs as she grabs her favorite vodka off the shelf and pours two shots. “One drink and you can go back to your merriment.”
“And your number?” Kara bargains smartly.
Megan shakes her head. “Why are you---”
“Being so persistent?” Kara finishes quickly with a perceptive smile. “Why are you being so persistent? I’m not a child. I’m an adult that can make my own decisions. I’ve always known that the only person I’d ever care to be with or ever care to have feelings about is my soulmate.”
“You have your life ahead of you and I’m a bar owner who has just as much life experience as all these people sitting along the bar alone. Why do you sound so confident that this is going to work out?”
“Because we were made for each other,” Kara answers easily and confidently. She smiles so hopefully that Megan has to look away, like she’s the fucking sun. “We can read each other’s minds, Megan. Not only is that ridiculously cool but think of how much it’s helping us communicate. We’re doing it now about this weird age issue that you have with me.”
“It’s not weird because it’s a very real issue. I’m old enough to be...like your aunt or something,” Megan can’t help but argue.
“But not my mother,” Kara quips in return, to which Megan rolls her eyes. “Look, I know that you’re probably in a place in your life where you need to think seriously about your future and do real adult stuff, but we all have to do that. I take my life very seriously in all respects, especially for things that matter. My soulmate and my future. And I definitely have to be serious about my future because I’m graduating soon.” Megan opens her mouth when Kara interrupts her again. “I know we’re at two different points in our lives, but that doesn’t mean we can’t be going through the same thing. We both have anxieties, but at least we know what they are and we can really help each other.”
“Are you trying to say we’re going to be better together?” Megan throws sarcastically.
Kara shakes her head and reaches across the bar, tapping it quickly. She places a palm up for Megan to take her hand, which she does to acquiesce her soulmate’s needy demands. “I am saying, we’re stronger together,” Kara responds simply. And somehow that makes a world of difference because Megan can hear Kara thank her mom and dad.
Megan rolls her eyes because it’s not like the younger woman was wrong. In fact, she was very right. It’s been far too long since Megan’s had to rely on someone else. Maybe it was time to start learning.
She squeezes Kara’s hand before reaching for the vodka. “One shot.”
Kara perks up in a brief confusion as Megan downs her shot. A small smile curls at the edge of her lips and she understands what Megan means. “One shot is all we need.” And she downs her shot like a champ.

our souls entwined, official first chapter
If you’ve already read Lena’s part, skip down to see Kara’s. For those of you who have seen my previous post, this is a continuation of my new His Dark Materials/Daemons SuperCorp AU.
From now on, continuations of this piece will be posted on this page under this tag: #our souls entwined
i. lena
Sariel settles as a peregrine falcon on Lena’s sixteenth birthday, soaring high above the guests milling about the grand ballroom of the Luthor estate, dark plumage catching the light of the many chandeliers glittering from the ceiling.
The sapphire gown her mother had commissioned for the event is cool and smooth against her skin, but the heavy collar of diamonds resting around her neck is a weight she’d gladly shed. Tuned into her train of thought, Sariel swoops down to rest on the brace around Lena’s left forearm, a masterpiece of finely crafted leather embossed with the Luthor crest.
Even before today, Sariel had always favored winged animals, so Lena keeps quite the collection of guards and braces in her room. It doesn’t match her dress, not by any means, but Lillian has allowed it, if only to show off Sariel to the guests.
No matter what form she takes, Sariel’s eyes have always remained resolutely gold, and people have been fascinated by her daemon’s eyes since before either of them were out of infancy. Most people are unsettled by her piercing gaze, but Lena doesn’t mind it- how could she hate anything about her own soul?
But most people aren’t like Lena.
Most people have regular daemons with regular eyes, who can’t stray more than a few feet from their human’s side.
Lena is born with a golden-eyed daemon who can fly far from her side- a testament to the witch blood in her veins, however diluted.
This is the first thing that sets her apart from the world, but it will be far from the last.
ii. kara
Kara is the second person in centuries to be born with her soul outside of her body.
For the rest of Krypton, daemons are a thing of the past. Years of careful genetic engineering had erased all traces of weakness or flaws from the population, including the unique vulnerability of having one’s soul exist in corporeal form.
Kara defies the science behind her birth, and Faida shimmers into existence within minutes of her being placed into her parents’ arms.
She is too young to care, much less even understand, why the tears her mother cries are not of joy.
Deep down, Alura-el understands then that her daughter is meant to follow in the footsteps of her sister, her twin, who shares everything with her except for the singular anomaly that now sets her daughter apart from all others as well.
Think about it, Alura! Why else would I have this daemon, if my path is not destined for the stars?
She just doesn’t want to believe it.
Despite her highborn heritage and place among the nobility of Krypton, Kara zor-El lives the first years of her life as an outcast amongst her peers.
It makes no difference to her whether or not the other children wish to be her friends- Faida is company enough, and the pair of them spend their days giggling over her transformations into all of the creatures Kara learns about through her studies.
Kara is glad that she is not alone in having a daemon- her Aunt Astra’s daemon, Erelah, is settled as a bird for which Krypton has no equal- large and beautiful, with red and gold plumage and fiery eyes.
“Why do we have daemons?”
This is the question she asks often when Astra manages to visit, bright eyes lingering on Erelah’s iridescent feathers.
“Why us, and no one else?”
“Because we are meant to explore the stars, Kara, meant to find the world on which our daemons belong- and us too.” This is what she usually says. It’s why she joined the military guild- to explore planets and solar systems beyond their own and find a place where daemons were the norm, rather than the exception.
Astra’s smile grows dimmer with every passing year when she asks the question, and it’s only when Kara turns ten years old that she gives her a real answer.
Kara asks her after the celebration, but Astra no longer smiles in response. “Because, little one, we must go to Earth.”
Kara perks up at the answer in spite of her aunt’s lack of enthusiasm, grinning broadly as Faida swoops through the air in jubilant circles. Today, Faida has taken the form of a bird, like Erelah, so the pair of them can fly together as their partners converse.
“So you’ve found it, then? The planet where daemons are from?”
“Yes, Kara, I have.” Tears well up in Astra’s eyes, and for the first time in her young life, Kara feels the first stirrings of fear.
Kara scrunches up her face, narrowing her eyes at Astra. “Why are you sad? Is ‘Earth’ not a nice planet?”
“It’s a beautiful planet, little one.”
“Then why-”
Alura enters the room, cutting Kara’s question off with a wave of her hand. “That’s enough talk of Earth, Kara. You don’t wish to upset your aunt any further, do you?”
Shame reddens Kara’s cheeks, and Faida’s feathers droop in response. “Of course not,” she whispers, moving forward to brush the tears from Astra’s cheeks as she crawls into her lap. “Don’t cry anymore, Aunt Astra. We don’t have to go to Earth if you don’t like it.”
Astra nods, but her gaze is locked upon her sister’s face, identical expressions of despair etched across their matching features. “It’s alright, little one.”
“Yes, Kara,” her mother continues, echoing Astra’s careful tone, “It will all be alright.”
It is the first time that either of them will tell her a lie.
Love it? Hate it? Let me know!
Yes, Astra will be alive in this fic. Alexstra/General Danvers stans need more fanfiction, and this is my gift to them.
xoxoxo
