Pieces... I don’t need anyone to save me.  There are too many sunsets I am yet to see, need to see, must see.  But someone cheering me on would help.  Someone holding my hand in love instead of judgement would be nice.   Because isn’t that what we all want? To be loved for who we are and what we are and all that we are, always?  The waves and sea remind me that even when its rough,  I am here to be me and make a difference to those who need to see they’re not alone   as I share the relentless things that have happened to me, that they took from me.   The peace and quiet broken by voices; some familiar, some I can’t place,  calling out the mundane as they go about their day, treating those they encounter   with contempt instead of care, with judgment instead of love.  And I pray that they will be quiet so that I can focus, listen,   only hear the one voice I need to hear in peace.  But this place I find myself in is peaceless cos there are so many pieces,  and I will not rest until I am whole again.   . . SURRENDER... Your care factor seems less than zero as you lock me out, shut me out, throw me to the wolves and mute my screams with your ignorance, forcing me to bend, but not break. Seek  Why is this place so toxic? Why do people only find the bad, never the good? SEEK out the bad OVER the good? Why do they gossip, back stab each other, then wonder why they feel hurt? Why in their weakness, fragility, fear, do they pretend to be powerful, confident, strong? A convincing fake façade of strength hiding the shallowness of real. How do I stay positive in this? Have a positive impact? How do I stay grounded, yet rise above? I am surrounded by so much negativity, by people who used to love me, but have forgotten how to tell me. How do I rise above the tension, change the direction, the ebb and flow? How do I avoid the dance of demise? How do I stand in my truth when I am surrounded by lies? I don’t know just now, but I will work it out; I will reach the point of clarity. An important journey to be shared I will write it out for everyone to see. . . Thank you for reading my words. REAL... I just wanted real in a world so full of fake. I just wanted to heal but you wanted to see me break. I just wanted to be held, but all I got was judgement, without the right to speak, left destroyed and silenced. I bought all the lies you sold, only to become the one who was sold out. I believed you wanted the best for me, but all you wanted was the best of me until there was nothing left to take. And while your actions are not justified, I do hope you are satisfied, because I genuinely wish for you the best of everything, no hurt, no harm. Drum Thump, thump… Thump, thump… Thump, thump… My head throbs as my heartbeat reverberates in my skull. Its percussion, though silent to my ears, persuades pain to burn behind my eyes. The eyes that always see their backs when all they want to do is look them in the face, stare into their soul. Thump, thump… Thump, thump… Thump, thump… The skin on my neck flexes to the beat like the skin of a drum, reminding me that even when I am beaten, I am still beating. That even when I am still, I am moving, never stopping even when paralysed in fear, yet always moving to its rhythmic beat. Thump, thump… Thump, thump… Thump, thump… My heartbeat IS the rhythm of the drum, The constant music that tells me I’m alive, that keeps me alive, The rhythm that reminds me that even when no one is there… I am my own tribe… A rhythmic realisation that in that moment, I am enough. . . All I know is I’m tired, my eyes hurt.  This silence is so noisy and I wish people would stay.   I wish they’d explain why they don’t, give me a right to reply.  I am so fearful of silence now, I cannot sleep.  Yet I am scared of sleeplessness.   All I know is the sun will rise tomorrow   just as the tide will heighten and fall.  And me? Through everything, I will write.  Because it is necessary to write to survive.  So I share my words to help others, yet it’s hard to be vulnerable.  All I know is it’s necessary to be vulnerable.  . I wrote this poem a few months ago as images of the floods that devastated the east coast of Australia stuck in my mind... My thoughts are still with everyone who was impacted 🙏🙏🙏 . WHITE WASH When we left, the sky growled at the wind as it howled back before the clouds turned into a waterfall, filling my backpack as it drowned me. The journey now controlled by the current falling from the sky. Pushing me forwards towards the distant mouth of the vast ocean… Eventually... Out of control, I pass port, pass trees, pass houses, pass in and out… Walking on water, no path in sight, it’s like the Suez Canal with no boat, the Dead Sea come to life! All I know is that I have no idea where I am, where I am going, how long it will take to get there on this stream to nowhere. The 'we' we once were when we left now 'I,' left scattered from the party we once travelled in. The valley now a raging river between two mountains, scenic walls that refuse to release the white wash. Me, the buoy left bobbing up and down, down and up, gasping, clinging onto what I can, yet slipping away. Now home is gone, it just floated past; the television antenna it’s satirical mast. . . As I sit here and work on the foreword for my first book of poetry coming out in January 2023 thanks to @dragonflypublishingau , these words are rolling around in my head... "Life is a journey... A trajectory of ups and downs, lefts and rights, light and dark." I have been thinking about the title and how to structure the book, and I think I am nearly there on that front. While creating this has brought up a lot, it has also shown me how I have healed, how much I have grown; that I am no longer a puppet to the trauma that broke me. It's a journey. .
