Reduce Call Center Costs with Cutting-Edge Conversational AI Solutions
Tumblr media
In today’s fast-paced business landscape, efficient customer service is a must-have for any company. However, maintaining call centers can be a costly affair. This is where Conversational AI comes into play, revolutionizing the way companies handle customer inquiries while significantly reducing operational costs. With businesses striving to strike a balance between high-quality customer service and cost-efficiency, Conversational AI solutions are becoming the go-to option for lowering call center costs. In this blog, we will explore how Conversational AI can transform your call center operations, helping you deliver excellent customer support without breaking the bank.

What Is Conversational AI?
Conversational AI refers to technology that enables machines to understand, process, and respond to human language. Using natural language processing (NLP) and machine learning, Conversational AI can simulate human-like interactions through various channels, including voice, text, and chat interfaces. It powers virtual assistants, chatbots, and automated customer support systems, making customer interactions smoother and more efficient.
The Role of Conversational AI in Reducing Call Center Costs
24/7 Availability Traditional call centers often operate within fixed business hours, meaning customers outside those hours need to wait for a response. Conversational AI, on the other hand, can be available 24/7, providing immediate assistance to customers at any time. This reduces the need for a large team of customer service agents working in different shifts, thereby lowering labor costs.
Handling Repetitive Queries A large percentage of customer inquiries are repetitive—questions about product features, service availability, or common troubleshooting issues. By integrating a Conversational AI solution like a chatbot, companies can automate responses to these common questions, freeing up live agents to focus on more complex tasks. This leads to greater efficiency and lower operational costs.
Scalability Without Increasing Costs As businesses grow, so do customer service demands. Expanding a traditional call center involves hiring and training more staff, which can be expensive. Conversational AI platforms can scale easily to handle increasing customer interactions without requiring additional staff, keeping costs low.
Reducing Call Handling Times Conversational AI systems can quickly retrieve customer information and offer instant solutions, reducing the average time spent on each call. Shorter call durations result in fewer resources spent per customer, helping to further drive down call center costs.
Minimizing Human Error Human agents are prone to making errors, which can lead to customer dissatisfaction and potential revenue loss. AI-powered customer service tools reduce errors by consistently delivering accurate information, improving overall customer satisfaction while reducing operational inefficiencies.

Coriolanus Snow x district!fem!reader
Word count: 3,7k
Warnings: Power dynamic, stalking, threat, obsessive behaviour
summary: One apple a day keeps the doctor away, but not all troubles can vanish that way.
a/n: This is my first story! I hope I did good. Little warning I use ai to correct any grammar mistakes since english isn’t my first language. Let me know what y’all think! There’s always room for improvement.
𝐦𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐭 l 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐨𝐧𝐞
He walked his patrol like any other day as if nothing unusual had happened the day before. Even after it all unfolded, he remained confident. He knew a letter from the Capitol would come meaning he wouldn’t have to serve much longer. He has done his part, now they have to do theirs. As he patrolled, he paused, watching a young girl around his age talking to a market vendor. Nothing seemed off, except for her hand slipping down to take apples and stash them in her bag. She charmed the salesman with her gaze, pretending to listen to his rambling. Her movements were confident, as if she could do no wrong. How mistaken she was.
She smiled, ending the conversation and heading off in the opposite direction. He took a moment to study her. She wore a brown skirt layered alongside a short, tattered white dress, with a thin white cardigan on top. A green scarf held back her curls. He noted that her beauty could draw in any man, but that wasn’t why he’d paused. He was interested in her confidence as she stole in plain sight. Was she arrogant and reckless, or had she become so skilled she barely thought about it?
He glanced around and saw that no one else had noticed other than him. Spotting the green scarf in the crowd, he followed her. Once he got a hold of her he could bring her back to the market and let her endure the consequences of her actions. But it wouldn’t serve him in any way.
As he followed her through an alley, he noticed her walking faster after sensing his presence. He felt amusement but also annoyance for her. Did she really think she could escape him?
The moment she noticed him, it was almost by accident, a glimpse caught from the corner of her eye. She was weaving through the narrow, dimly lit streets, the weight of the day still clinging to her as she slipped between the sparse crowds.
“Wouldn’t want to be caught, would you?” His voice echoed through the alley once they were alone. It wasn’t a question, more of a statement that made her stop in her tracks. She looked back, pausing slightly at the sight of stark lines of his Peacekeeper's uniform, the blue fabric gleaming under the faint streetlights, contrasting sharply against the grit and grime of District 12. His piercing gaze held hers. What a shame. If she was in the Capitol, she could use her looks for far more than stealing. Such a waste of a pretty face he thought.
The jacket fit him with precise tailoring, each seam accentuating his tall, lean frame, giving him an imposing presence even in stillness. Its dark fabric clung to his shoulders, emphasizing his upright posture and adding to his air of controlled authority. His face was strikingly pale, almost ghostly in the dim light, making his features even more pronounced. His eyes, a piercing shade of blue, scanned his surroundings with a calm but relentless intensity, as if he missed nothing. The slight upward curve at the corners of his mouth hinted at a quiet confidence, even a trace of amusement, as if he enjoyed the silent power he held. His expression was unreadable cool, distant, yet utterly focused, leaving an impression that this was a man who expected to be obeyed without question.
“What are you going to do?” she asked, her voice uneasy as she realized the situation she found herself in. Alone in a dark alley with a peacemaker nonetheless.
“What am I going to do? Just decide how much trouble you’re worth.” His words sent a chill down her spine. Ignoring him, she tried to leave, only to halt again when his voice rang out.
“You don’t want to do that.”
Her heart pounded in her chest as she froze, the words hanging in the air. She didn’t dare turn around at first, but the subtle shift in the tension was impossible to ignore. The way Snow’s voice, calm and assured, sliced through the silence made her feel as if every movement was being watched, calculated.
She finally faced him, her breath shallow, eyes betraying the mixture of fear and defiance that churned within her. “What do you want from me?” Her voice barely rose above a whisper, the question escaping without her permission. She didn’t want to know, but she couldn’t stop herself from asking.
Snow took a slow step forward, his eyes narrowing slightly as he sized her up. There was a cold precision to his movements, as if everything he did had a purpose. He didn’t rush, he didn’t need to. He already had her where he wanted her, at least for now.
“What I want from you,” he began, his voice smooth, like a snake coiling around her. “A homecooked dinner would be nice once in a while”
The way he spoke those words made her stomach tighten. She could feel the weight of them, the danger lacing each syllable, as if they were an offer and a warning wrapped into one. It sounded too innocent for her to believe that it was the only intention he had with her.
Her mouth went dry. “And what do you offer in return?” She barely recognised her own voice, it was so laced with hesitation, but it was too late to take it back now.
Snow’s lips quirked into a smile, but it wasn’t kind, there was nothing warm about it. “What I offer in return,” he said, his gaze piercing, “is security. You won’t have to worry about having to steal again, and you’ll never have to fear being hungry again.”
The offer hung there, almost too good to be true, but her instincts screamed that it was a trap, one she was already caught in, whether she realised it or not.
She swallowed hard, trying to keep her composure. “And if I refuse?” she asked, her voice steadier than she felt, trying to act like she had a say in this.
He stepped closer, close enough that she could feel the heat radiating off him. His gaze never left hers. “What matters now is whether you’ll take this chance, or let it slip through your fingers. Refusing wouldn’t be a smart choice.”
Her heart raced, each beat a thunderous echo in her ears. The alley seemed to close in around her, the walls inching closer with every passing second. Snow's words hung in the air, a poisonous mist that threatened to suffocate her.
She tried to steady her breathing, to summon the confidence that had always been her shield. But it slipped away like sand through her fingers, leaving her exposed and vulnerable. Snow's presence loomed over her, a shadow that seemed to dim the very light around them.
"I don’t-" The words stumbled from her lips, foreign and clumsy. She hated how small her voice sounded, how it betrayed her uncertainty. The usual fire in her eyes flickered, threatened by the icy calm of Snow's gaze.
He took another step closer, and she instinctively stepped back, her heel catching on an uneven cobblestone. She stumbled slightly, her composure cracking further. Snow's smile widened almost imperceptibly, like a predator sensing weakness in its prey.
"Time's ticking," he murmured, his voice barely above a whisper but somehow filling the entire alley. "And with every second, your options... slim."
A chill ran down her spine, sharp and sudden like a blade of ice. She felt trapped, cornered not just by the physical walls of the alley but by the weight of Snow's words, the implications of his offer. The confidence that had carried her through countless thefts now seemed a distant memory, replaced by a gnawing fear that threatened to consume her.
Her options weren’t really great. If she said no she thought she would lose her life but saying yes felt like signing away her soul. Looking around she searched for something that might help her get out this goddam alley. The options weren’t great. Either try running away or try to take one of the pipes to protect herself. None of the options would end positive, she just knew.
The probability of her being fast enough to run away or to fight him off were almost nonexistent. His physique was far stronger than hers, his presence alone imposing as it filled the narrow space between them. Each step he took seemed to close the distance effortlessly. She could feel the weight of his gaze, unyielding and heavy, like a force she couldn’t escape. Her own body, feeling tense and fragile in comparison.
Her gut told her to get out somehow but she knew that wasn’t an option. All this just because she chose to steal some apples. Everything in her mind screamed that this wasn’t just about apples and some dinner. This felt more like a cat and mouse game.
The way he stared at her completely still, not moving his eyes away from her. The world went quiet for a moment as his piercing eyes seemed to hold her to the ground. Something was different about him than other men she met. Everything seemed violent about his presence but somehow he was so collected. There was no need to demand obedience, he expected it. And she hated that she’s given it to him already.
“What is the point in giving me a choice if I can’t choose?“ her voice was steady but also soft with a hint of suspicion. She didn’t want to give him the satisfaction of showing too much fear, but there was no mistaking the uncertainty in her eyes.
Snow paused, his eyes narrowing slightly as he studied her, almost amused by her attempt at control. His lips curled into a thin smile, and for a moment, there was a glimmer of something dark in his gaze.
He leaned in ever so slightly, closing the space between them with a subtle shift of his posture, making the moment feel even more intimate, as if he were confiding in her.
“It’s more an opportunity that I’m offering.“
Goosebumps arose on her skin as she felt his breath on the side of her face. It wasn’t just a opportunity. A fear arose in her chest, what would happen when she accepted? The silence stretched after his words but it didn’t seem to affect him at the slightest. Him not saying anything was just encouraging her to get this over with.
She held his gaze, her voice steady but carrying a hint of defiance. “You already know my answer.“
Her voice held a quiet determination that hinted she wasn’t as easily intimidated as he might have thought.
Snow tilted his head slightly, his expression sharpening as he absorbed her response. A shadow of a smirk played across his lips, a mixture of intrigue and amusement, as though her defiance had only deepened his interest. He studied her in silence, the intensity of his gaze making the air between them feel charged.
“Lead the way,” he murmured, each word deliberate, laced with a quiet authority that made it clear he wasn’t asking. “I’ll accompany you home.”
He gestured with a subtle wave of his hand, a show of politeness that was somehow more unsettling than reassuring. His eyes never left her as though he were both her escort and warden. His tone was low, controlled, making it clear that he would be by her side whether she wanted him there or not.
She looked at him, attempting a casual tone, though she knew it might fall flat under his piercing gaze.
„I have nothing at home to cook for you“ she said, hoping the simple statement would somehow deter him.
Snow raised an eyebrow, an amused smirk tugging at the corner of his mouth as though her words had only entertained him. “Oh, I wouldn’t worry about that,” he replied smoothly, his tone calm yet edged with something almost playful. “I’m sure I’ll find the visit worthwhile.” Her mind raced as she second guessed his words. What would happen when she was alone with him in an closed room. The alley was already too much for her but being with him alone under a roof? That would get even more intense.
She started walking, leading the way as he told her to. As she started leading the way he walked next to her adjusting to her pace. Matching her steps perfectly. This felt too normal. Walking around at night while the crickets chirped in the background. And it would’ve been if it wasn’t for him.
she took the three steps up to her front door as she struggled with the key‘s for a second, the darkness in the night wasn’t making it easier for her.His presence weighing on her as he stood behind her.
The key finally slid into the lock with a soft click. She hesitated for a moment before pushing the door open.Snow stood still behind her, his posture relaxed but undeniably attentive, as if waiting for her to make the next move. She pushed to door open and got in. While she turned around to him, he already had let himself in and brushed past her. She watched him and felt weird at the sight of him here. He seemed too big for her space. The uniform didn’t help with that.
“I didn’t invite you in,” she said, her voice quieter than she meant it to be.
A flicker of amusement crossed his features as he stepped closer, his shadow falling over her. Snow’s eyes moved slowly over her home, taking in every small detail, and finally settled back on her. “You live simply,” he observed, his voice carrying that familiar note of amusement. “It suits you.” He paused, his gaze sharpening. “Though I wonder how long you can keep it this way.” For a moment, she considered brushing it off, offering a sharp retort or forcing a casual laugh, but the weight of his gaze, his calm scrutiny, made her hesitate. His words were not just about her living conditions, they felt like a subtle threat, a reminder that whatever fragile peace she had built could crumble under the weight of his influence.
She felt a sudden tightness in her chest, his words striking like an uninvited invasion into the small space she had carved for herself. Her gaze briefly flickered around the room at the worn furniture, the cluttered counter, the untouched corners. His observation felt too intimate, as though he saw right through her carefully constructed life, exposing its fragility. There was no malice in his tone, but it didn’t matter. The implication was clear, and it sent a cold ripple of discomfort down her spine.
Snow’s gaze lingered for a moment longer on the surroundings before his eyes shifted back to her, his expression unreadable but piercing. “Do you live alone?” he asked, the question almost casual, yet there was something underlying in his tone that made it feel like a probe, as if he were gathering pieces to a puzzle only he could see.
The question hung in the air, and she felt a wave of discomfort wash over her. There was no reason for him to ask. It wasn’t the kind of detail that should matter. Yet, his presence here, his ever watchful eyes, made it feel like everything about her life was suddenly under his scrutiny.
She hesitated for a moment, her pulse quickening. “Why do you want to know?” she asked, her voice betraying the caution she tried to mask. Her fingers tightened around the doorframe as she shifted her weight slightly, instinctively wanting to create some space between them, but she knew it wouldn’t matter.
Snow’s lips curled into a small, almost imperceptible smile, his eyes never leaving hers. “Just curious,” he said softly, his voice smooth, but there was a chill to it that made her wonder whether he already knew more than he was letting on. “It’s always… telling, isn’t it?” His eyes drifted around the room again, and she couldn’t shake the feeling that he was reading her in ways she didn’t want him to.
Snow’s gaze remained steady as he spoke, his voice smooth and casual, but there was an underlying edge that made her stomach tighten. “I’ll pick you up at work tomorrow,” he said, as if it were a simple, everyday arrangement.
Her breath caught, and she instinctively took a half step back, her eyes narrowing as she processed his words. “How do you know where I work?” she asked, the question slipping out before she could stop it. Her tone was sharp, suspicion threading through her words, as she tried to keep the unease from showing in her voice.
Snow didn’t flinch as if her surprise was exactly what he’d been expecting. “I know more about you than you think,” he replied, his tone still that of casual amusement, but with something colder lurking beneath. “Information has a way of finding its way to me.” She felt a chill race up her spine, but she didn’t give in to the fear bubbling inside. Instead, she met his eyes, trying to hold her ground. “And if I don’t want you to pick me up?” she asked, her voice steadier than she felt.
He shrugged nonchalantly, the smile never fading. “It’s not a request,” he said, as if it were the most natural thing in the world. “I’ll be there, whether you want me to be or not.”
Snow’s gaze lingered on her for a moment longer, as though weighing her, as if deciding whether to say something more, but ultimately, he turned his attention to the door. He stepped back, the movement smooth and deliberate, like a predator leaving its prey but always keeping an eye on it.
“I’ll see you tomorrow,” he said, his voice low but certain, the words hanging between them like a promise or a threat. There was a finality to them, as though he were marking his place in her life whether she liked it or not.
He didn’t wait for a response, his figure retreating into the shadows of the street as he stepped out into the cool night air. His movements were measured, effortless, as though everything he did was part of a plan only he could see.
She watched him go, the silence settling in after the door closed behind him, and for a long moment, the weight of his presence lingered in the room, even though he was no longer there. The feeling of being watched, of being known, clung to her like a second skin.
The echo of his footsteps faded, but his words, his promises, stayed with her, haunting her long after he disappeared into the dark.
Even after Snow had left, she couldn’t shake the unsettling sensation that clung to the air, as if his presence had seeped into the very walls of her home. The quiet that followed felt thick and heavy, almost oppressive, as if the space itself had been altered by his visit.
She glanced around the room, her gaze drifting over the small, familiar things her worn couch, the half finished cup of tea on the counter. But nothing seemed the same now. His absence didn’t bring relief. It brought an eerie stillness, a reminder that he had been here, that he knew this space, even if only for a moment.
Before she went to bed, she checked the door three times, her fingers grazing over the lock, turning it back and forth to be sure. She pulled the curtains closed, then checked again, making certain there wasn't a sliver of space left for anyone to see in. The room fell into complete darkness, but she could still feel his presence lingering as though he hadn't really left. It was an eerie sensation, one that made her heart beat faster even as she lay beneath her covers, staring at the ceiling.
Every time she closed her eyes, his face flashed before her. That calm, calculating gaze that seemed to pierce straight through her, as though he knew things about her that even she didn't know. She tried to shake it off, to ignore the shiver of curiosity and dread twisting through her mind, but the questions began pressing down, unyielding and relentless.
How did he know her? She had seen him only once before today, barely long enough to catch a name, and yet he seemed to know things such as where she worked. The realisation made her stomach churn. Had he been watching her before tonight? Had she simply never noticed the shadow that lingered in the background, that invisible thread weaving itself into the corners of her life?
And what did he truly want from her?
His words played over and over in her mind, each one carrying a weight she couldn't quite decipher. His tone had been laced with something she couldn't name, something cold and almost intimate. He'd made her feel as though she were walking a fine line, one wrong move away from consequences she didn't want to imagine.
She shifted restlessly, pulling the blankets tighter, though they did nothing to keep out the feeling of exposure.
Alone in the darkness, she was acutely aware of how vulnerable she was, how easily he'd managed to unnerve her, twisting her own mind against her. And yet, despite her fear, she felt a strange pull toward him, a desire to understand, even as it terrified her. As the minutes passed, she lay in silence, her thoughts circling back to that piercing gaze, that unreadable face, and the unsettling truth that, somehow, her life no longer felt like her own.

👾Chapter One👾
✨masterlist✨
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Deeply apart from the worlds we once knew, long after the days of Earth and her sister planets were consumed by their star, there existed a new source of light and life several, several lightyears away.
While humanity managed to survive its galaxy's inevitable end, they weren't the only species to seek refuge in other parts of the universe.
Luminasia, the mecca of peace and evolution. The planet of fluorescent lights and less than favorable air quality, ever-evolving and expanding her influence's reach, housing beings from all over, living as one in a melting pot of sorts.
"Papers! Get ya Newspapers here!!" a digitized fellow yelled repeatedly from his corner on the sidewalk. His form was fragmented, pixellating in and out of focus as he and his solid booth of merchandise swayed in the breeze.
A drizzle of rain patterned over the concrete, coating the air in a whimsical steam while pedestrians passed the floating newsstand, some too busy on their phones or in their conversations to notice. Or care. With a population well into the billions, it wasn't hard to be drowned out by the early evening buzz on the streets of the neon city, buzzing with its usual pass of traffic, foot and motor alike.
Yet the hologram continued its mantra, tossing out other lines involving hot coffee and e-cigarettes at half of the price in most stores.
A tall pale gentleman with stark white shoulder-length hair, suited in a forest green tailored suit approaches the stand. Rain pebbles over his translucent hands-free umbrella that hovered over his head to keep him dry as he and the hologram make eye contact.
"Evening sir! Can I interest you in today's paper?" the AI grins and the gentleman nods.
"Yes. One please.." the customer croons. A peculiar undertone of clicks and coos in his voice. When he blinks, two sets of eyelids flutter horizontally then vertically one bright green irises with his response.
"Oh and one coffee, " he adds, offering his wrist to the salesman for him to scan the glowing symbols etched into his skin as currency.
"Caf or decaf?" the AI perks a pixellated brow.
"Decaf, please."
Once the payment is processed and seemingly out of nowhere, a plain paper cup of coffee appears from under the salesman's left hand. In his right, a single blue capsule wrapped in plastic that fits in the nest of his palm is presented to the green-eyed customer.
He takes the pill, immediately tearing into the package and placing it on his tongue.
In an instant 10,000 words and images rush the gentleman's brain, flashes of images and speedy clips of video footage downloading in seconds as the tablet dissolves. Weather. Traffic. Celebrity gossip. Politics. All are compacted in one consumable capsule.
He blinks, shifting the colorfully distant look in his eyes as more present and the salesman gazes at him blankly with a steaming cup of coffee waiting to be taken by the customer.
Charteues eyes drop to the drink then back up to the AI's manufactured smile, nodding with gratitude before taking it. He lifted it to his lips for a sip, grimacing at the chalky bitterness coating his tongue as he swallowed. He doesn't seem overly offended by the coffee's offputting flavor however since he merely takes it with him.
"Enjoy." the robotic vendor bids the suited male adieu, promptly going back to yelling his pitch to hail in more customers.
That was life in the year 4471. Instant gratification, artificial intelligence. The coffee still sucked but much like most things carried over from the old worlds, very little was the same.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
On a night like any other, the glowing streets of the neon city were alight with motion. Vehicles hovered in streams overhead while others remained traveling on the slick roads underfoot.
That was Megan's preferred method of travel, something about the feeling of the pavement beneath her tires kept her grounded. Long cotton candy blue tresses flow in the wind as the engine of her Venomx22GT growled against the damp concrete. Music blasts from her speakers, the bass vibrating through her down to the slope of her seat. Strips of black leather coiled around her luscious brown skin in some semblance of an outfit that covered only the parts of her that were necessary. Summers in Luminasia were sweltering, even after a drizzle, so why else cover up if not just for public decency purposes?
Her curves mimicked the way she leaned to swerve through traffic, unphased by the offensive swears and honks hurled her way for her careless maneuvers. She snickers at their antics, caring only about the path laid out in front of her.
*bling bling bling*
Interrupting her night-riding playlist, a call notification twitters in her ear. If it weren't for the personalized ringtone telling her who it was, she would have ignored it.
Being a professional jack of all trades Megan's line was constantly ringing. Whether it be a noblewoman in need of exclusive details regarding her husband's whereabouts on a particular night, stealing family jewels from museums and returning them to the rightful owners, or organizing entertainment for events dedicated to impoverished Lumin youth of all colors.
Not to mention her side hustle of procuring the very rare and very expensive, from places most people weren't brave enough to go...
Needless to say, our girl was a busy woman.
So calls from her partner in crime meant a few things; money on the way, or news of money to be made.
"Phor..talk to me." she takes the call, tapping her temple and unleashing a hologram strip an inch in front of her right eye. She still has a decent view of her surroundings as she weaves through traffic while her pixelated view of her four-legged, bull-dog confidante with heightened human-like intelligence, transitioned to a high-definition shot of him seated at his wall of projected screens and keyboards.
Phor pauses his constant type to push his tinted glasses up, allowing his color-blind eyes to appreciate his monitor adequately.
"Hey. I've got good news and bad news, Mama. Which first?"
Megan makes of face of careful contemplation with pouted lips.
"Mmmmmm..Gimme the good," she smirks, easing her bike to a stop at the red light.
She looks over, spotting a bright orange muscle car with its windows down blasting music beside her. The driver glances over at her, flashing a wide gold-plated grin before lowering his shades to reveal two sets of glimmering blue eyes. Both of the left two wink at her suggestively while a long yellow serpentine tongue lashes out of his mouth in a hiss.
Megan grimaces before twisting the handlebars of her bike, revving it in preparation to get as far away from the hungry-eyed creature as soon as the light changes.
Tapping away with his paws, Phor narrows his dark gaze at one of the maps on a screen to his right.
"Well...Looks like you were right about the location of one of the synstones hidden in the city. I tracked its sonic signatures to the southside of Mamba District."
Megan smiles at the news.
"I told you my dreams are never wrong." she shimmies her shoulders triumphantly while maintaining her balance on the bike.
But then the mention of the cold blooded's territory dawns on her, and Megan seethes in deepened disgust.
"Ugh! Mamba District? I said good news, Phor!" she exclaims and he chuckles, his long tongue rolling from his mouth as he panted softly.
"That IS good news. Means it's close to where you already are. I'd say 4-6 minutes if you hustle. And I'm pretty sure it's in an abandoned warehouse near the border. So it should be easy to find." he shrugs. The holo-light goes green overhead and Megan doesn't hesitate to lurch forward at a speed she was sure would leave that Lizard-faced onlooker in her dust.
Squinting against the high-speed winds in her face, Megan kisses her teeth.
"Ok, but who would hide a synstone in some raggedy-ass warehouse? Aint that just asking for someone to come take it?" she asks. Phor's consistent typing fills the line as she alters her course in pursuit of Mamba District.
"Who knows? Maybe keeping it under heavy guard would be too obvious.."
For all who have no clue what a synstone is, think of an infinity stone but less threatening. With only 6 existing in the entire universe, synstones were a hot commodity, each of them very different from the others and granting whoever possesses it extremely unique abilities.
While little is known about their true origins, knowledge of their existence has had scavengers and thieves scrambling all over the galaxy to acquire one. Whether it's for their gain or to sell to the highest bidder.
Megan's motivations leaned towards the latter.
"True, true. Alright. So what's the bad news?"
There's a thick pause after her question and Megan would have figured the call dropped if she weren't already looking through Phor's hologram and his apprehensive puppy-eyed expression.
His teeth were bared in a hesitant grimace, making Megan's worry intensify.
"What Phor?" she snaps at him and he exhales loudly.
"Ok. I tracked another signature near the stone as well. A very...familiar one."
Meg's hard scowl softens gradually when the tone of Phor's voice tells her everything he seems afraid to say.
Not afraid for her, more so for her reaction once she faced the very familiar presence they both knew would want the stone just as badly as she did.
"Fucking fabulous. Send me the coordinates." she glowers, but that doesn't stop her from hitting max speed through the glowing night streets and deeper into the neon jungle.

Life update
Long story short(er)...a bit over a year ago my then-boss decided to bring a process that had been previously delegated to an external vendor internal, and I would be in charge of it. We knew that it would be a big challenge, but felt that it was possible. I didn't get a title change, but in effect this was a MASSIVE promotion, which I later convinced my subsequent boss to give me a significant raise for.
Then, my boss left the organization just as this new process was ramping up, and was replaced by someone who was honestly out of his depth in the position, for lack of any better option at the time. I repeatedly asked for assistance with decision-making, resources, and professional development regarding this process, but received very little assistance. Nevertheless, my newly-hired supervisee and I limped along the best we could with the knowledge and resources that we had. We were getting projects out the door, but we didn't have what we needed to assess how well we were doing and how to do it better.
A few months ago, my boss was working with some consultants on some tangentially-related things, and they were shocked to find out the extent of what I, as just one person, was in charge of. They suggested bringing someone else on board, and in fact, they knew just the person, who was currently looking for a new job. She became my boss about 2 months ago. She has extensive experience in this area and it's become clear just how in over our heads we were when we decided to bring the process in house with exactly 0 people with prior experience working on it. I kept asking both my previous boss and her what exactly my responsibilities vs. hers were, and never got a satisfactory answer. My previous boss kept telling me that I "could learn a lot from her" (completely true, but nevertheless I still needed to know what my job was so that I could learn from her while doing it) and then later that I should "be proactive" and not just wait around for someone to tell me what my job was (which, I'm pretty sure that repeatedly trying to have a conversation about it is, in fact, proactive? but ok). My current boss kept saying that she didn't know either, but it would get sorted out.
Well, it did. Sort of. Last week, she began to hint, and this week she said clearly (when I brought it up), that she does not believe my role as it currently exists is what she needs at this time. She is of the opinion that 90% of writing can be done with AI nowadays, with just a little human cleanup (I wish her luck getting AI to hone in on the very specific voices of certain picky higher-ups in the organization, which I have mastered, but ok), and what she really needs is someone with 6-7 years of experience with this work to run with strategy, project management, etc.
I, uh, clearly do not have that experience, through no fault of my own. So I have been given the following options:
a) Fully commit to the new position and go through 3-6 months of extremely intensive training to try to get me up to speed. I feel like this would be setting myself up for failure, as no matter how hard I work I cannot make up for years with mere months. It would also take a level of commitment to the position that I simply don't find myself having at this point. For various reasons, I'm just not interested in working for her at this point, and I can't see myself being motivated enough to follow through the way I would need to in order to have any chance at succeeding.
b) Try to find another position internally. This would be my preferred option, as I like where I work and what we do, but it requires someone having an opening that is in some way a good fit for me. A colleague has been putting out feelers for me, but I spoke to someone in HR yesterday and he didn't really have anything for me. This is IMMENSELY frustrating given that I was literally given an award for how valuable I am to the organization just months ago, I have always gotten positive performance reviews, and yet somehow it seems there is no way to use the very talents I was told were absolutely essential extremely recently. I feel like there should be someone I can go to and be like, "Hey, remember that big award you gave me for contributing so much? I would like to continue contributing so much. It is in the organization's best interest to not just let me slip away. Let's figure out where I can contribute." But I don't know who to talk to.
c) Leave and find a job externally. I have people who are happily willing to assist with networking and reference-giving on this, but the problem is that everyone's first question is, "What are you looking for?" and I don't have a good answer. I would probably like to stay in the nonprofit world, ideally the Jewish nonprofit world, but could see myself in a for-profit position if I felt like the work was making a positive difference in the world. It would be nice (and to my employer's benefit) if the position involved writing, given it's both my passion and my strength, but it's not a must. My main thing is that I want to feel like my employer is making a positive impact in the world and I want to feel like I myself am making a clear contribution to that positive impact. I didn't do well as an office manager because I felt too disconnected from the mission, but I did fine as an administrative assistant who was working with programmatic staff at the same organization (though such a position is now too low-level). I also don't want to take a salary cut (or at least not a major one), but many positions I'm seeing at my current salary or above are things I'm not qualified for.
So anyway, that's what's been going on and why things have been a bit quiet on this blog. I am oddly calm about it all, there's just been a lot to figure out. That can partially be explained by the fact that my husband starts working part time in less than 2 weeks, and then full time IY"H after he passes the boards in late July, so seemingly the worst case scenario here is we have a brief period of living off unemployment, his part time work, and savings before we get back to where we've been for a while now (his starting salary is a bit more than my current salary, so while we had been expecting our income would double soon, we at least wouldn't be worse off than we've been). But even so, I'm surprised that I'm not more upset.

.... so nanowrimo sent out an apology email.
Tumblr media
[Copy-Paste under the cut, its a long one, boys]
To Our NaNoWriMo Community:
There is no way to begin this letter other than to apologize for the harm and confusion we caused last month with our comments about Artificial Intelligence (AI). We failed to contextualize our reasons for making this statement, we chose poor wording to explain some of our thinking, and we failed to acknowledge the harm done to some writers by bad actors in the generative AI space. Our goal at the time was not to broadcast a comprehensive statement that reflected our full sentiments about AI, and we didn’t anticipate that our post would be treated as such. Earlier posts about AI in our FAQs from more than a year ago spoke similarly to our neutrality and garnered little attention.
We don’t want to use this space to repeat the content of the full apology we posted in the wake of our original statements. But we do want to raise why this position is critical to the spirit—and to the future—of NaNoWriMo.
Supporting and uplifting writers is at the heart of what we do. Our stated mission is “to provide the structure, community, and encouragement to help people use their voices, achieve creative goals, and build new worlds—on and off the page”. Our comments last month were prompted by intense harassment and bullying we were seeing on our social media channels, which specifically involved AI. When our spaces become overwhelmed with issues that don’t relate to our core offering, and that are venomous in tone, our ability to cheer on writers is seriously derailed.
One priority this year has been a return to our mission, and deep thinking about what is in-scope for an organization of our size. A year ago, we were attempting to do too much, and we were doing some of it poorly. Though we admire the many writers’ advocacy groups that function as guilds and that take on industry issues, that isn’t part of our mission. Reshaping our core programs in ways that are safe for all community members, that are operationally sound, that are legally compliant, and that are mission-aligned, is our focus.
So, what have we done this year to draw boundaries around our scope, promote community safety, and return to our core purpose?
We ended our practice of hosting unrestricted, all-ages spaces on NaNoWriMo.org and made major website changes. Such safety measures to protect young Wrimos were long overdue.
We stopped the practice of allowing anyone to self-identify as an educator on our YWP website and contracted an outside vendor to certify educators. We placed controls on social features for young writers and we’re on the brink of relaunch.
We redesigned our volunteer program and brought it into legal compliance. Previously, none of our ~800 global volunteers had undergone identity verification, background checks, or training that meets nonprofit standards and that complies with California law. We are gradually reinstating volunteers.
We admitted there are spaces that we can’t moderate. We ended our policy of endorsing Discord servers and local Facebook groups that our staff had no purview over. We paused the NaNoWriMo forums pending serious overhaul. We redesigned our training to better-prepare returning moderators to support our community standards.
We revised our Codes of Conduct to clarify our guidelines and to improve our culture. This was in direct response to a November 2023 board investigation of moderation complaints.
We proactively made staffing changes. We took seriously last year’s allegations of child endangerment and other complaints and inspected the conditions that allowed such breaches to occur. No employee who played a role in the staff misconduct the Board investigated remains with the organization.
Beyond this, we’re planning more broadly for NaNoWriMo’s future. Since 2022, the Board has been in conversation about our 25th Anniversary (which we kick off this year) and what that should mean. The joy, magic, and community that NaNoWriMo has created over the years is nothing short of miraculous. And yet, we are not delivering the website experience and tools that most writers need and expect; we’ve had much work to do around safety and compliance; and the organization has operated at a budget deficit for four of the past six years.
What we want you to know is that we’re fighting hard for the organization, and that providing a safer environment, with a better user interface, that delivers on our mission and lives up to our values is our goal. We also want you to know that we are a small, imperfect team that is doing our best to communicate well and proactively. Since last November, we’ve issued twelve official communications and created 40+ FAQs. A visit to that page will underscore that we don’t harvest your data, that no member of our Board of Directors said we did, and that there are plenty of ways to participate, even if your region is still without an ML.
With all that said, we’re one month away! Thousands of Wrimos have already officially registered and you can, too! Our team is heads-down, updating resources for this year’s challenge and getting a lot of exciting programming staged and ready. If you’re writing this season, we’re here for you and are dedicated, as ever, to helping you meet your creative goals!
In community,
The NaNoWriMo Team

ai continues fanfics badly
hello, i am a fanfiction writer and i've seen people say that they use ai to continue stories past what the author has written. i don't like the use of ai for this, since it steals writing and is very lazy.
so, i decided to experiment by putting one of my fics into chatgpt and telling it to continue the story.
i used my fic 'cotton and wool', which you can find on my ao3 under the same username as here (simpforsix). it's a short fic about historical fashion in the video game vampyr. please DO NOT put anyone's stories into any ai! i only did this because 1. it is my fic and 2. i wanted to see how good it actually is at continuing fics.
let's go through what chatgpt wrote paragraph by paragraph:
As Jonathan steps out into the cool night air, the streets of London feel both familiar and foreign. The gas lamps flicker like distant stars, casting elongated shadows that dance across the cobblestones. He pauses for a moment, allowing the sounds of the city to wash over him: the distant clatter of horse hooves, the soft murmur of conversations spilling from nearby taverns, and the occasional shout from a street vendor hawking his wares.
this just doesn't make sense in canon. chatgpt doesn't seem to know what era it's even writing for, talking about horses even though this is london in 1918. it is able to mimic my writing style a bit, but my writing style isn't particularly unique so it could just be getting lucky. i like the descriptions, but it just doesn't set the scene as post-war london. it's more small town than what the game is actually like.
Tonight, he plans to visit his usual haunts: the alleyways behind Whitechapel, where the lost and forgotten often gather. They are his people—those who have slipped through society’s cracks. As he walks, he can’t help but reflect on the changes that have occurred since his transformation. The world feels sharper, colors more vivid, and sounds more pronounced, but it’s a trade-off he never quite reconciles.
ok so it knows about whitechapel but... what does it mean the alleys behind whitechapel? because whitechapel is a district, and the citizens are on the streets. bigger issue here is the bit about his transformation. if i was writing this i would note the fact that he can see the blood or has greater power, since that's the actual trade-off that was made. also, a bit nitpicky, but the use of commas in the last sentence is a bit off for reasons i can't put my finger on. i'd also use the past tense in the bit about a trade-off, but that's just me.
(though, it is trying to emulate my work, so i guess my nitpicky things about what i would do are valid)
He makes his way through the winding streets, his mind drifting to the last patient he treated—a young boy who had fallen ill with a fever. Jonathan remembers the boy's mother, her eyes hollow with fear, and he had promised to return with more remedies. He should check on them tonight.
As he approaches the alley that leads to Whitechapel, a low voice calls out to him from the shadows. "Doctor! Over here!"
It’s Clara, a familiar figure draped in a tattered shawl, her face partially obscured by the darkness. She is one of the many souls he has helped, a former seamstress who now lives on the fringes of society.
most of this is fine, except for the fact that clara does not exist in game and no citizens live in any of the alleys that lead to whitechapel except for one man who lives in a flat. i would have used an already existing character for this, or if i was making an oc i would have given her a bit more background if i wanted her to be a 'familiar figure'. her description is also a bit too similar to old bridget or another skal, which i would have avoided.
“Clara,” he replies, hurrying toward her. “What troubles you tonight?”
She leans closer, her voice a hushed whisper. “It’s not me. It’s Benny. He’s gone and got himself into a right mess. He was chasing after some street rats and came back with something…something strange.”
who is benny and why was he chasing street rats? what is happening?
Jonathan furrows his brow, his instincts kicking in. “What do you mean, strange?”
“He’s feverish, but it’s different. His skin—it's all red and raw, like he’s been burned. And he won’t stop shivering, even in this cold.” Clara’s voice trembles with urgency.
“Lead the way,” Jonathan replies, following her deeper into the alley.
The narrow path twists between crumbling buildings, their brick facades covered in grime. The air grows thick with the smell of dampness and decay. As they approach Clara’s makeshift shelter—a collection of blankets and old crates—Jonathan feels a sense of dread settling in his stomach.
if i was writing this i would try to match it to the map, which chatgpt is incapable of doing because it can't play the game. i can't think of a single place that matches this description that goes off an alley leading to whitechapel. and why is her shelter just blankets and crates? if this happened in universe she would already be a skal. i would have either written her as a squatter or as someone living in very cheap accommodations.
Inside, the flickering light of a single candle reveals Benny, a small boy with tousled hair and wide, terrified eyes. He is curled up on the ground, shaking violently. Jonathan kneels beside him, placing a hand on the boy’s forehead. It burns like fire.
a SINGLE CANDLE?? that's just not how light works. chatgpt also never tells us the relation between clara and benny, which seems like important information. and jonathan, being cold as a corpse, is not a reliable narrator when it comes to temperature.
“What did you find, Benny?” he asks gently, trying to coax him to speak.
dude you use mesmerism all the time why aren't you using it here?
The boy’s eyes dart around the room, finally resting on Jonathan. “Rats,” he stammers, “but they weren’t like the others. They had…glowing eyes.”
Jonathan’s heart sinks. Glowing eyes? That could mean something far worse than just an ordinary illness. “Clara, did he touch them?”
again, if chatgpt was capable of playing the game it would make a connection between the glowing eyes and skals. but it can't. because it's a computer program. this also feels completely divorced from canon. authors making new threats usually connect them in some way to the already existing threats. this is a completely new story that it's making up as it goes along.
AND JONATHAN LITERALLY FACED THE VAMPIRE EPIDEMIC! HE KNOWS IT'S NOT SPREAD JUST BY TOUCH AND SHOULD HAVE ENOUGH EXPERIENCE TO BE COMING UP WITH THEORIES!
“I don’t know! He just started screaming and ran back here,” she replies, wringing her hands.
As Jonathan examines Benny, he can feel a chill creeping into his bones, a reminder of the darker forces at play in the city. He knows he has to act quickly. “We need to get him to a proper place, somewhere safe where he can be treated."
why isn't he using his blood sight? you know, the mechanic that literally every medical examination in the game is based around? and why would he bring someone possibly infected by a supernatural virus to the hospital?
Before Clara can respond, the ground beneath them trembles slightly, as if the city itself is responding to their urgency. Jonathan stands up, determination setting his jaw. “I’ll find help. Stay with him, and keep him warm.”
very cliche to have the ground tremble. i don't like it. and what help is he getting? why isn't he, as a doctor, handing out medicine for the fever? this guy isn't jonathan reid at this point.
With that, he rushes back into the night, his mind racing. The glowing-eyed rats are no ordinary creatures; he can feel it in his marrow. They are likely a symptom of something more sinister lurking in the shadows of London, something that could threaten not only Benny but all of those who live in the dark corners of the city.
wasn't this... the plot of the game? this would be a very boring story if i wrote it like this. it's just rehashing the exact same plot as the game.
As he weaves through the streets, Jonathan knows he must confront this new menace. After all, he’s no longer just a doctor; he’s become a guardian of the night, a protector of those who cannot protect themselves. And if there’s one thing he’s learned in his time walking these streets, it’s that the darkness can only be fought with light.
it's a bit pompous to refer to himself as the guardian of the night, but i'll allow it for the sake of his saviour complex. what i won't allow is the fact that it does not reference the source material at all. there's nothing about the skals, about the red queen, hell it doesn't even say the word vampire! you would have no idea this was about vampyr if you read this as a standalone.
the biggest issue with this whole thing is that it DOESN'T CONTINUE MY STORY AT ALL. that was the only goal and it failed. my story is about historical fashion, exploring menswear in the early 20th century. that was why i wrote it. this "continuation" doesn't even mention historical fashion. it doesn't continue my idea of how his clothes would constantly be getting dirty, it doesn't show him providing healthcare, it disregards the entire story that it was based on. this is just a oneshot with a plot that rehashes the original story as if it never happened and doesn't even mention vampires.
so my question is: WHY would you use chatgpt to continue stories? even disregarding all the ethical concerns, it's just bad at it. maybe it does well sometimes, but other times it seems to go rogue and forget what you even told it to do. this is nothing like what i would write, nor does it make sense as a vampyr fanfic. if you want to see a continuation, ask the author to either continue it or for permission to write a continuation yourself. don't plug it into ai just for it to steal work and give you shit.

Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It was wildly wildly wildly hot today. 105 degrees on the thermometer on our car. It's crazy and did not lead to the nicest day. But I tried my best to be positive and I only threw my phone once.
I had a lot of fun with James last night. But we were able to sleep pretty well. Just not enough. And waking up was incredibly difficult. Like I was up but at what cost??
We would gather all of our selves and our stuff and headed out. It was nice being together but I was just so tired and unhappy. James had made me at home hash browns so I had that in the car. And we would arrive at the museum right around 740.
James carried my box and I carried my table. The strap broke off the box though and the box landed on their foot. Their poor foot.
I would set up and felt like I was moving so slowly. I was struggling. But I also had to be in charge. James brought me a sign in sheet to keep track of the vendors that arrived. We had a few new ones today. I hope that they did well despite how heavy the weather was.
It would get warmer and warmer. My only saving grace being the breeze off the water. I was tired and hot but at least I was in a good mood.
I would make a few sales. But mainly I was focusing on telling people about the free workshop this friday. Im excited that people who may not normally be able to afford to take art classes might join me. I hope people take my up on the offer.
I would mainly knit. And have conversations. I bought cherries and peaches. James came out and we would get baked goods. And I would thoroughly enjoy my breakfast muffin and pop tart. And have excellent conversations about education and hard skills. It was a fun day despite the outrageous heat.
Because I was worried about the heat and the vendors we decided that we would start packing up at noon. But there was much time to go until then.
I would text with Jess. Which would be in the hospital for the entire day. But they may have a plan for treatment and I really hope it helps.
I would also be texting my dad to try and reach him how to spot AI images. It's hard because the computers are getting so good at creating fakes. But it was fun showing him images and explaining ways to tell. Things being off. Extra fingers and physics that don't make sense. We also just had some nice conversations about life. Love my dad.
At 1230 more then half the vendors had gone. And I decided I could start packing up too. James had gotten be a smoothie and a quesadilla and once I was done eating I would pack up for real. Which never takes long but I was a little woozy from the heat. And had to fix how everything was fitting. It was to much for my overheated brain to handle and I was very close to falling apart. But I got it together and Stanley helped carry the heavy box. And things weren't as bleak. Even if the best was trying to kill me.
I would go inside to cool off. Something I did not let myself do all morning in fear that it would be to hard to leave the cold. And I was very right. Once I was inside I washed off my face and put new cold water on my bandana. And kissed on James and bought a bar of soap and chilled until after 1. Once all the other vendors had left.
I would say goodbye to James and went to check on the mice Mexican ladies, as they were still there. But they were getting ready to leave too and had all the kids and grandmas in the car with the AC on.
And that is what I did too. I would blast the AC for a minute while I was outside taking pictures. And it wasn't so unbearable once I got in and headed home.
I would be back by 2. And while I was so happy to be home, it wasn't as cool in here as I had hoped. But I would take a cool shower and put on a loose shirt and laid down.
And slept hard. I wouldn't wake up until James was home at 5. And even then they left me until 530 just dozing. But while the sleep will be good for me in the long run, I was so miserable.
But despite how miserable James would take me to target to get the things I wanted for camp. The little lost of foods and snacks. We also needed a lot of cat stuff.
We would be in line for a long time but it was fine. I was happy to be in the AC even if i was miserable. I asked if we could please go to a restaurant to eat. I wanted fountain soda.
So after we paid James drove us home and left me in the running car so they could take the food in. And then we were off to fells point to go to Alexander's Tavern.
James did an excellent job parking in a very tight alley spot. We walked to the restaurant which was only a block and a half away. James suggested we could walk on the water after dinner and I was like are you insane? I don't even want to walk to the restaurant! But dinner was good. We had some confusion about where we were supposed to go inside. But we figured it out and would have a really nice meal.
We got hush puppies to start. And drinks. And then sandwiches and tator tots. We talked about things that needed to be done. Got excited about James having sunday's off again and projects for the house. I was cooling down and not as miserable. Still tired but it wasn't as bad as it was.
We got home and James would change the kitty litter. And I soaked Crabcake and fed Sweetp and cleaned the frog tank before I fed them too.
James would take a shower and I would soon too. I would become sweaty so quickly. It was terrible. I have moved a fan to the hallway upstairs and our bedroom is fine but I wish it was colder. At least I'm not sweaty anymore.
We are watching a show now. And James has promised me a Popsicle. I am mostly just really excited to sleep.
We are jumping in the harbor tomorrow. And then I have an event to work. It will be a very long day but I am hoping for a good one.
I hope you all sleep well. Take care of eachother. Try and stay cool!

At the RSA security conference in San Francisco this week, there's been a feeling of inevitability in the air. At talks and panels across the sprawling Moscone convention center, at every vendor booth on the show floor, and in casual conversations in the halls, you just know that someone is going to bring up generative AI and its potential impact on digital security and malicious hacking. NSA cybersecurity director Rob Joyce has been feeling it too.
“You can’t walk around RSA without talking about AI and malware,” he said on Wednesday afternoon during his now annual “State of the Hack” presentation. “I think we’ve all seen the explosion. I won’t say it’s delivered yet, but this truly is some game-changing technology."
In recent months, chatbots powered by large language models, like OpenAI's ChatGPT, have made years of machine-learning development and research feel more concrete and accessible to people all over the world. But there are practical questions about how these novel tools will be manipulated and abused by bad actors to develop and spread malware, fuel the creation of misinformation and inauthentic content, and expand attackers' abilities to automate their hacks. At the same time, the security community is eager to harness generative AI to defend systems and gain a protective edge. In these early days, though, it's difficult to break down exactly what will happen next.
Joyce said the National Security Agency expects generative AI to fuel already effective scams like phishing. Such attacks rely on convincing and compelling content to trick victims into unwittingly helping attackers, so generative AI has obvious uses for quickly creating tailored communications and materials.
“That Russian-native hacker who doesn’t speak English well is no longer going to craft a crappy email to your employees,” Joyce said. “It’s going to be native-language English, it’s going to make sense, it’s going to pass the sniff test … So that right there is here today, and we are seeing adversaries, both nation-state and criminals, starting to experiment with the ChatGPT-type generation to give them English language opportunities.”
Meanwhile, although AI chatbots may not be able to develop perfectly weaponized novel malware from scratch, Joyce noted that attackers can use the coding skills the platforms do have to make smaller changes that could have a big effect. The idea would be to modify existing malware with generative AI to change its characteristics and behavior enough that scanning tools like antivirus software may not recognize and flag the new iteration.
“It is going to help rewrite code and make it in ways that will change the signature and the attributes of it,” Joyce said. “That [is] going to be challenging for us in the near term.”
In terms of defense, Joyce seemed hopeful about the potential for generative AI to aid in big data analysis and automation. He cited three areas where the technology is “showing real promise” as an “accelerant for defense”: scanning digital logs, finding patterns in vulnerability exploitation, and helping organizations prioritize security issues. He cautioned, though, that before defenders and communities more broadly come to depend on these tools in daily life, they must first study how generative AI systems can be manipulated and exploited.
Mostly, Joyce emphasized the murky and unpredictable nature of the current moment for AI and security, cautioning the security community to “buckle up” for what's likely yet to come.
“I don’t expect some magical technical capability that is AI-generated that will exploit all the things,” he said. But “next year, if we’re here talking a similar year in review, I think we’ll have a bunch of examples of where it’s been weaponized, where it’s been used, and where it’s succeeded.”

I like applied statistics for it. I try to be really specific about what I'm talking about when I discuss any particular "AI" tool, or the problems those tools introduce into a particular system. (I'm being a little bit general right now and not drilling into specific terminology because I'd rather talk about work in broad strokes here.)
One of my frustrations with the conversation around "AI" for the past year or two has been that tools that I've used for years are now being assigned the AI label because, overall, it helps the companies sell the tools.
So when people online advocate for never using any AI ever... am I supposed to abandon tools for automated image masking? Scheduling assistants? Identifying fonts? Categorizing, labelling, and highlighting similarities in a database?
I've drafted policies and contracts that forbid generative "AI" use. There are ways to write about these tools, and there are ways to write about how work should be completed, how intellectual property should be treated, and whether generative tools in general can be used for a project. The purpose of these contracts are to communicate to the contractor what the company's expectations are and what the contractor's responsibilities are. Inherently, this has consequences for who's liable if the company gets in trouble with a client or vendor because it turns out copyrighted material or generative "AI" tools were used, so... please actually read your contracts everyone, I am begging you.
The conversation online ends up snagged between rabidly pro-tech hype and rigidly anti-automation positions, with the people who actually deal with the real-world impact of these technologies talked over and caught in the middle. In my opinion, the harsh judgments of either side betray their ignorance more often than not.
When you talk about what should be culturally acceptable, whether that's allowing ChatGPT in classrooms or dragging Wizards of the Coast through the dirt for publishing AI art, I'd like you to think a bit about exactly what you're asking for. At that point, even when we disagree, we might all learn a bit more (and attack each other less.)
"There was an exchange on Twitter a while back where someone said, ‘What is artificial intelligence?' And someone else said, 'A poor choice of words in 1954'," he says. "And, you know, they’re right. I think that if we had chosen a different phrase for it, back in the '50s, we might have avoided a lot of the confusion that we're having now." So if he had to invent a term, what would it be? His answer is instant: applied statistics. "It's genuinely amazing that...these sorts of things can be extracted from a statistical analysis of a large body of text," he says. But, in his view, that doesn't make the tools intelligent. Applied statistics is a far more precise descriptor, "but no one wants to use that term, because it's not as sexy".

Understanding the Internet of Behavior: Transforming Technology Through Personalization
Tumblr media
We are no longer living in a ‘hyper-connected world’ where the technology has graduated from just connecting devices to understand and anticipate our needs, desires, and even our behavior. This is called the Internet of Behavior, an emerging concept building on top of IoT but adding a powerful layer of behavioral insights. IoB seeks to interpret data about human actions and patterns to offer tailored experiences, improve business outcomes, and even enhance public welfare. But it comes with ethical issues regarding its use on questions of privacy and proper applications for personal data.
What is the Internet of Behaviour (IoB)?
Internet of Behaviour is essentially the collection of user data that can be obtained from multiple sources including connected devices, social media, purchasing patterns, as well as location tracking for the understanding and predictability of human behavior. This includes taking a step further to analyze the data and hence creating actionable insights about the people using those devices when making the focus on gathering data from multiple devices in IoT.
This enables the IoB to analyze the “what” and “why” within the actions of users, thereby helping organizations provide more personalized services or tailor their offerings to accommodate particular needs, thereby influencing future user behavior in a directed manner.
How Does IoB Work?
IoB leverages a mix of technologies, including AI, machine learning, and big data analytics, to process and interpret data collected from various sources:
1. Data Collection: It collects data from different sources, including IoT devices, social media activity, browsing history, purchase history, wearable health devices, and mobile applications. Each of them provides evidence to a person’s behaviors, preferences, and motivations in more concrete manners.
2. Data Analysis: AI algorithms analyze such data to find patterns and correlations, which may signify particular behaviors. For example, analyzing what one browses and purchases might show purchase motivations, preferred brands, and needs.
3. Behavioral Insights and Actions: Now that the data is processed, it provides companies and organizations with the ability to decide upon how they engage the individuals. Such insights can be used in tailoring product recommendations, delivering targeted advertising, or even adjusting service delivery according to what resonates best with certain segments.
4. Feedback Loops: The other essential aspect of IoB is that it provides a real-time feedback loop. And while users respond to the customized services, IoB aggregates more data about the interactions that have been made, thus refining the accuracy of future predictions and allowing the systems to “learn” the user’s preferences in a deeper pattern over time.
Real-World Applications of IoB
IoB is already transforming various sectors, bringing personalized, data-driven experiences to users. Here’s how it’s being applied in some critical areas:
1. Healthcare and Wellness IoB allows medical professionals to create highly personalized treatment plans. Wearables, like fitness monitors and smartwatches, can track activity levels, heartbeat, and even sleep patterns. They can, based on this data, provide healthcare professionals with recommendations for lifestyle adjustments, remote monitoring of health, or even the prediction of possible medical problems before they worsen.
2. Retail and E-commerce Online vendors use the Internet of Behavior to learn users’ shopping behavior and styles for a more personalized recommendation, for which, with the information of how and what users prefer or spend on with their interest in products, can effectively be used by e-commerce sites to make recommendations most aligned with the tastes of the buyer, thus increasing conversion rates and loyalty.
3. Public Safety IoB data can be employed to facilitate city authorities to increase public safety through foot traffic patterns, climatic conditions, and previous incidents for the identification of high-risk areas and times. Resource allocation and proactive safety measures through predictive ability
4. Marketing and Advertising IoB greatly benefits the marketing industry. Considering that the behavior of online subjects is now analyzed, IoB can assist marketers in recognizing what message or offer works best for which particular audience segment. Even personalized ads, email campaigns, and dynamic web content are more accurate and attractive with the insight rendered by IoB.
5. Workplace Productivity Companies have just begun to apply IoB tools to understand patterns of employee workflows, communication habits, and other performance metrics. Companies can create a more effective workplace, improve the well-being of employees, and reduce burnout by making suggestions for breaks or changes in routines based on how people work best.
Benefits of IoB
Enhanced Personalization: Hyper-personalized services and products in IoB lead to increased customer satisfaction and brand loyalty.
Improves decision-making: Companies can even make more informed decisions based on their products, services, and marketing strategies to appeal directly to their users.
Predictive Capabilities: The IoB allows companies to anticipate or know the need or behavior of a customer, thus solving problems even before they develop, or it provides pro-active support to a customer.
Ethical and Privacy Challenges
While IoB offers numerous benefits, it also raises significant ethical and privacy concerns. Here are some of the main challenges associated with the Internet of Behaviour:
1. Privacy Risks IoB necessitates collecting elaborate data that is associated with privacy risks, as the study of users’ personal and sometime sensitive information is being monitored. Organizations need to be able to ensure that organizations can comply with data protection regulations like GDPR to guarantee the right protection of user privacy.
2. Data Security IoB relies heavily on data sources that could be termed easy preys for cyberattacks. Thus, data security and therefore tightening cybersecurity measures to protect associated sensitive information at large is important.
3. Ethical Use of Data IoB has influence as well as manipulation power over behavior; therefore, companies should ensure that data collected from IoB must be used responsibly without exploiting or manipulating the consumer. Transparency is also essential about data usage, and consent must be obtained.
4. Bias in Algorithms Since IoB relies heavily on AI and machine learning, biases in the algorithms can skew results at best and may influence decisions about people. Algorithmic fairness has to be considered because IoB cannot unfairly target or exclude certain groups of users.
The Future of IoB: What Lies Ahead?
Further evolution of IoB will spread its impact towards business and society as a whole. Future developments of IoB include more regulations concerning the usage of data, better technologies for transparency and security. Added with IoB could be Augmented Reality (AR) or Virtual Reality (VR) to create some immersive, behavior-responsive experience in gaming, education, and retail.
Responsible IoB will attract enormous attention because companies balance personalized services with respect to user privacy and ethical considerations. Inasmuch as responsible data is accorded, IoB will revolutionize the way we interface with technology and the world.
Final Thoughts
Internet of Behaviour leaps forward in data-driven insight, thus meaning organizations can serve people more customised and user-centric. But with all new opportunities comes a sense of responsibility by which business will need to ensure good deal of data management through ethical and secure means. Once matured, IoB would need transparency, trust and responsible data practices to make its maximum potential fruitful for the benefit of individuals, businesses, and society as a whole.
This balance of innovation and ethical responsibility makes IoB the key player toward a digital future transforming the ways in which we interact and expect from technology.
