helloooo Iliad fans out here on tumblr. I'm really wondering, what are your thoughts on Fury of Achilles 1962? So far I think it's really accurate in portraying most characters compared to other adaptations (like troy 2004 and 2018) And I'm directing a class play about the Iliad atm sooom do you guys think its a good media reference? Especially for costumes and character motivations and dynamics?

Diplomatic Skills 17
The Loaded Question
— a question and declaration, question cannot be answered without having to (implicitly) acknowledge the declarative part. Opponent may wish to deny the declarative part.
eg. Mr Chairman, I would be interested in knowing when exactly the Iranian regime started launching its nuclear programme
— double dickheaf: If you do not answer the question you implicitly seem to agree with it, the declarative part. But if you contrst the declarative part you are put on the defensive- you must prove ehat is presupposed in the quedtion isn’t true.
— Succesdfuly Shifts the burden of proof from your side to their
— Forces opponent to enter into a debate that they wanted to avoid. It is quite embarrassing.
— breaks burden of proof, relevance and symmetry
Shifting the ground
Often the case in negotiation that party gives new arguments in support of its thesis that are difficult to reconcile with the prior points they made in the thesis.
Then party tries to take back what it said without drawing attention. This breaks commitment rule.
Other party may have built argument relying on earlier assertions of opponent. Now their argument is made more vulnerable.
— dropping an argument when it proves unconvincing
— damages credibility of party doing it and the smoothness of the negotiation
END
Argumentation is different to reasoning
You rely on argument in debates and negotiation
arguments are a bit different to proofs of logic
Yet, the strongest argument will often be a logical argument
Argument and reasoning are different but do not contradict each other
the concept of a “reasoned argument”— an argument supported by good reasons. Good reasons come from good reasoning (ideally logic)
Reasoned arguments = logical arguments
Logical arguments beat arguments that are not as grounded
Logical arguments are the best arguments
THEREFORE Reasoning supports argumentation. Argumentation does nothing to reasoning, it goes beyond reasoning.
You can do things in argumentation that are not allowed in reasoning
Reasoning is disciplined and strict. Regimented

3/1/24 "Gikeiki" and "Phoenix" Vol. 7 + 8
Tumblr media
>>>Every new Tezuka volume feels like a big slap in the face to society. Unironically I feel slightly guilty reading his works now and I don't know why!?!?!? I feel like he is yelling at me....<<<
Anyways, this time around, this narrative screamed 'factions are bad, can't you tell?' you can see it multiple times around the two volumes, especially with Benta and Obu's descent into different factions, and how said faction developed a particularly nasty civil war (see what I did there?).
Despite that both beggars came from the same place, they chose a side, and then became enemies because of it! I think this sentiment can be applied to Japanese political parties (or any political party, for that matter) and even Japanese minorities (Ainu, Burakumin). It's effectively saying "we're all the same, why do we need to fight?".
Tezuka shows this fallout as especially fierce, which you can see in panels were the soldiers cut into eachother, civillians are killed, and even pages are slashed! What a nice use of style here. He also emphasizes action lines and the shading on smoke, fire, and blood in these panels to amp up the inensity. He is very, very anti war.
Tumblr media
I also want to note that this portrayal is quite unlike Tezuka, in my opinion, he has lots of stories where gore is acceptable but he really has only inserted it here. I think maybe he did that because at the time of writing, protests were going on? Perhaps he saw something that changed him?
Lastly, the monkey and the dog also reminds me of that momotaro mythos, and by extention Gikeiki! All of these stories were really interesting, and it was a pleasant contrst to the mythos Japanese people believed as absolute truth. That leads me to wonder, however, how much Japanese people truly believed their mythos in comparison to fictional stories? I believe another student mentioned this in their blog post, but I feel like mythos has a way of influencing people, even if it is just a joke. For example, I think Momotaro's main story is working together helps you achieve anything you want.
