In episode 3 it's revealed by kinger that darkness calmed down his abstracted wife, and in the pilot we saw caine put abstracted kaufmo into "the cellar with a whole crowd of other abstracted people, *a very obviously dark room with no visible light sources*

Just saying that seems, interesting, and implies caine somehow figured out darkness potentially calms them, maybe after the incident with his wife kinger told caine about it and he adjusted their holding area? but it's nice to see he's trying to be accommodating for them, plus it looks like there's water in there? Maybe water is also calming for abstracted individuals?

Everyone is talking about Kinger and his 7 years of computer science but I actually formed another theory.

What if Caine isn't actually an AI but a person who is also victim of the circus? Think of him as more like an admit of the circus who simply forgot that he was a person.

My main reason for considering this is the exit door from the first episode. Why would he need to create an exit door that leads to an office with a computer and a headset that Pomni clearly recognizes? How does he even know what the headset looks like? Why would he then hide it and claim it was for an unfinished adventure? Because he was trying to make a way out for himself and his it away when he realized this wouldn't work.

As when he made the exit door he realized that he only created a digital version of the office. Realizing that he was locked out of the real world he began to lose his mind. In an act of desperation he wiped his own memory to convince himself that he was an AI so he wouldn't become abstracted. Hoping one day, someone would find the real exit and get him out.

When Zooble tells Caine that no one likes his adventures he begins to breakdown as the world around him slowly starts to go with him until they're able to snap him out of it. With his main "purpose" being question the AI personality begins to diminish as the real Caine, who already was dangerously close to losing his mind, would emerge.

This might also be the real reason why Kinger's memory is messed up. Caine may have altered his mind as well to further push the narrative and keep his coworkers safe. But it didn't work on them the same way. Hence why Kinger is able to temporarily get his memory back when in the dark and why his wife still abstracted.

Another thing. When Pomni says "He wants to torture me" in episode 3, she might not be referring to Caine. She could be referring to the real mastermind of the circus. A man in the real world who trapped all these people in the circus. Perhaps even the real creator of the circus.
