Dream and Nightmare are creatures
My take on guardians from the perspective of it being more like a species than a role.
So there’s alot of feral twin stuff out there (well, not alot, but a good amount) but it’s usually in a “they were ‘raised’ outside, they have no people manners” and that’s great and all and also a contributing factor but I wanna see legitimately feral shite, I wanna see these guys chase down a rabbit because their low on magic and need a snack, I wanna see them rear up on their tiptoes when they feel threatened.
In particular, I like the concept of blue and dream becoming actual friends and blue losing his assumption that dream is a well mannered and put together individual. Like the first time he invites dream to stay the night and dream absolutely refuses to sleep in the guest room and blue simply cannot comprehend what the issue is but just, idk, assumes they’ll sleep on the couch or something, right?? Nah, blue would get up in the middle of the night for a glass of water and dream isn’t anywhere to be seen- but it’s the middle of winter! He wouldn’t have just left. But they did, and is in fact sleeping in a tree outside the house in the snow, head tucked into his cape like a cat.
he wouldn’t really understand cooking too. Like, they would get the concept and partakes in pastry’s (village definitely gave them sweet bread and the likes) but blue would try to feed him an actual meal and he would just stare, because why does it have so many smells? And why is the meat so dark and has little bits on it? Has it gone bad and blue didn’t notice, or maybe doesn’t care??? They don’t want to be rude so they wouldn’t say anything but that just confuses blue more. He hisses when stretch looms threatening, bares his tiny fangs as his magic sparks (technically effective, stretch would be too flabbergasted to keep posturing). It’s not that blue never saw it before because it wasn’t there, it’s more that being and doing something so drastically different than what dream was literally made for (protecting Nim at all cost) that he’s in a constant state of disassociation, living day to day in the 3rd person. But blue made them feel safe, made it ok to be present even if everything was still so much for them. Down side: blue has to deal with his silliness now.
Nightmare of the other hand;
He has had a whoooole lot more time to, mayhaps adjust is the incorrect word, but certainly learned to mask his reactions (ie, pain, instincts, mobility issues) he’s just very good at hiding things. As discussed in a previous post of which I’m unsure how to link, Nightmare would eventually start acting like his real self around the boys, that would also include him acting like a feckin gremlin. Nipping at people when he’s been touched for too long, tilting his head to and fro when he’s listening very intently, making little noises when he’s talking to indicate tone (incredibly appreciated, if not a bit amusing, to the gang because Nightmare is VERY monotone). He would also be a little bit overwhelmed by processed foods but it wouldn’t be obvious because he won’t eat in front of anyone outside of the boys. sometimes. (Think anxious dog squirreling away food)

Hi, what are the traits that you think Mello would find attractive about Soichiro Yagami? And vice versa?
HIII HELLO UM,,, sorry it took me so long to respond, this was so much harder to answer than I thought it would be lol. Istg I’m too tired to even think anymore >_< ALSO sorry if I go a bit off topic at any point but I’m trying my best I swear
What Mello finds attractive about Soichiro:
-His cute grey hair, obviously.
-(Also quite obvious considering how much I post about this but) His age/general father figure-ness. I was going to go into more depth about this point but I feel like there are so many different factors contributing to Why that I’m not even sure where to begin.
-Sort of adding on to that, I think in particular the idea of this like, upstanding, principled older man with a loving wife and kids being attracted to him, someone who is so young and anything but upstanding and principled and not who he should be attracted to, and the thought of dragging him down from that moral righteousness, making him succumb to temptation, is something he’d be pretty into (corruption kink mayhaps??)
-Because he’s so like,, proper and old fashioned, Mello finds that it isn’t too difficult to get him flustered. When they’re alone he loves teasing him just to elicit a reaction from him. To him it’s almost cute how he struggles to keep his composure over things he’d personally consider tame.
What Soichiro finds attractive about Mello:
-(This is difficult because all of these things are hidden underneath so much denial and repression and come with so much shame and guilt that it feels wrong to just list them in such a straightforward manner)
-Okay look. He’s pretty. He is undeniably, objectively pretty, quite striking, really, so can you really blame him for thinking that (whatever helps you sleep at night king)
-But like. It’s more than that. There’s something strangely alluring about him. Intoxicating, almost. Like he’s just so unfamiliar and wild and defies all of the ideals Soichiro desperately clings to and is all of the things he shouldn’t want but in a way it almost adds to the appeal.. idk (corruption kink mayhaps??)
-As much as he goes against everything he stands for, Mello is smart and hardworking, and Soichiro can respect that.
-Tbh I think he’d maybe be a little more into Mello’s oral fixation than he would like to admit,, (source: in one of the not really canon but still official four panel comics, titled “Party Tricks”, several of the characters debate over who has the most impressive “party trick”. Soichiro brings up L’s ability to tie cherry stems into knots with his tongue (which is really not all that impressive compared to some of the other nominations and definitely not the first thing I’d go with). There is a relatively common myth that being able to do this makes you a good kisser. No I’m not reaching at all what do you mean.)
Okay I give up trying to add on to this. Maybe I’ll update/change this in the future but here are my thoughts for now.

I took one look at Duman and my brain went: MANWHORE!
There's actually a simple SCIENCE behind this!!
Behold. The Whore Gap. Seen on many male/masc characters throughout history, Winx Club especially, the whore gap refers to the little gap between the top and bottom of one's attire where bare skin is visible. Usually only a little bit of skin, separating itself from a full on crop top situation. Whether it's sluttier than that is based on several things and lots of opinions, there are no wrong answers, we're all in this together <3
The rating of whore on said gap depends on certain factors; Does it show the belly button? Does it show the hip bones? Would it realistically only be visible if the character were to raise their arms? Important things like that.
Taking a look at Duman, that is a clear case of Whore Gap. I don't think I even have to point out all the things when it's there for all to see. What I WILL say is that there's like a singular shot, mayhaps more idk, where his top rolls up further when his arms are raised. Things to think about. Points to add.

Of course in Duman's case there are multiple factors that contribute to him being perceived as a MANWHORE, mesh shirt, his piercings, makeup, waist. I just felt like. Talking about this. Sorry.
This is also why imo his rare comic appearances are not good.
Like if randomly changing his design wasn't rude enough, they TOOK the Whore Gap from him in most panels (except for like one) and I don't think I can forgive them for that. The only time I have allowed it was for Russian Winx on Ice Duman, who was given slits in his skirt for mobility and slays it hard, so it's a fair trade. Actually while collecting images I discovered that there is no need for a trade, because it's a case of 'hidden until arms are raised' gap, which is still valid.

The Kids Are Alright: What's In "Blood Stew"?
In preparation for my efforts on crafting some Meera Reed meta & in support of my "Jojen Is Fine, Actually" post, I will be Preemptively Addressing the subject of "Blood Stew" in the Bran POV chapters in ADWD.
CW: spoilers for ASOIF & D&E, reference to cannibalism, hunting of animals (& probable extinction), logistics of meat production, harm to children, suicidal ideation (Jojen), arson (including to religious sites, i.e. Old Gods), possible xenocide, body horror (Brynden), cult behaviour & indoctrination, drugging & grooming of minors (Bran, by the Singers), blasphemy (consistent usage of religious terminology for an in-setting cult of faith).
Team "Cave Kids": Setting the Scene
Going into WoW, Team Bran (Bran, Summer, Walder, Meera & Jojen) will have lived as guests of the Cave Singers for near up to a year: their lodgings lay within a vast & labyrinthine underground cave system, crawling with weirwood tree roots from the Haunted Forest above, and home to More Skeletons Than A Natural History Museum. All the humans (& Summer) share sleeping quarters. Summer pops out to Hunt and Do Wolf Leader Things (GRRM has subscribed his direwolves to Ye Olde Alpha Wolfe society); Jojen Worries Meera and sometimes goes Exploring; Meera and Walder are more cautious in their movements, when Bran isn't Bodysnatching Walder for his own explorations; Bran himself is carried by Singers to & from the shared sleeping chamber to Brynden's Vertigo Cave for "Flying" Lessons.
This entire region is named by the ASOIAF Wiki as "the cave of the three-eyed crow": as I always do, I Take Issue With That Name (I got sidetracked enough to move my thoughts to a separate draft).
Instead, [Team Bran] are guests of the Singers living in "the Caves [Beneath the Haunted Forest]". The Cave Singers are Singers, not Children of the Forest, though I do use Bran & Meera's nicknames for individual Singers.
Brynden is just "Brynden": he was, once, "Lord Commander"; a "Lord Hand" twice-over; and a "Master of Whispers" both before & after his ever receiving the position "officially". More hilariously, Brynden is very definitely the Distant Cousin (mayhaps even a many-times great Uncle) of every living Stark in the series. All courtesy of one Lady Melantha Blackwood of Winterfell (and GRRM's continued Indifference to the maternal sides of family trees, To Be Doylist About It).
Bed & Breakfast
My Grievances with Non-Existent Titles, Leaf's Suspect Math & Unspecified Maternal Lineage aside, let us return to "blood stew".
"And almost every day they ate blood stew, thickened with barley and onions and chunks of meat. Jojen thought it might be squirrel meat, and Meera said that it was rat. Bran did not care. It was meat and it was good. The stewing made it tender." (Bran III, ADWD)
Jojen and Meera are probably both right, sometimes at the same time: Bran is aware of Summer's freely exit the caves to Hunt & Summer likely donates the odd "squirrel" (or pieces thereof) to the Cave Kitchens, when he can. The Supernaturally Colder climate induced by the Others does make Summer's hunting an unreliable food source, in the long run: what little game still remains in the Haunted Forest is unlikely to have any offspring to replace the current population. The ever diminishing returns of Summer's hunts are a major factor in his Direwolf Mother travelling South for her pregnancy in the first place. That she, a Giant Direwolf, somehow got as far South as Winterfell's Wolfswood? Brynden is in the neighbourhood and Invested in House Stark, if only in Bran & Jon: his "Divine Intervention" is the most plausible explanation. Directing a local direwolf to Stark lands is well within his canonically established capabilities (whether this was easier than Rigging Jon's Election is a Fun Thought Experiment).
Local vermin and Summer's potluck contributions alone could not sustain the Singers, let alone their (fragile!) human guests: it is a different sort of meat that makes up most of their Blood Stews, one Greatly Speculated upon and one of Shocking Audacity... so what is the primary ingredient of Blood Stew?
Cave Goat. :D
The Kids Are Alright
The Singers canonically keep Goats for milk, used for cheesemaking. The Singers themselves are Omnivorous (they eat mushrooms & fish) so they probably eat their goats too. Given that the Cave Settlement has existed for 1 million years (Leaf's Math, GRRM's lacking a sense of Scale), the Singers have had a long time to familiarize themselves with lactose tolerance & the butchering of goats for meat. These goats have likely lived alongside the Singers for a very long time: they're never mentioned leaving the Caves to (not) graze, meaning they too live entirely in darkness. Brynden might be called upon, now & then, to skinchange into wild Flock Queens from Above (googling "do goats have leaders" has informed me that goats are Matriarchal) & thus bring "Fresh Blood" to existing herds.
Speaking of Blood, the "blood" in Blood Stew is probably goat blood preserved after slaughter in That Most Ancient Form Of Sausage... black pudding. Blood spoils too quickly otherwise, even if the Singers have "freezers" in the form of cold caves. While GRRM never says as much, the Singers certainly have the means to "farm" salt to aid in meat preservation. There is at least one underground river in the Caves (the black one with blind fish) that is never specified as "salty" or "fresh". Assuming the Singers weren't just "mining" rock salt (solar evaporation would be Rather Difficult, what with the Complete Absence of Sunlight), the Caves almost certainly boast several brine springs.
The access to salt and [cold caves] enable the Singers to "stretch" each goat slaughtered, making them the most reliable source of meat. Given that the Singers personally tend to their goat herds, the "hygiene" of their goat meat makes the goats a much safer offering for their even the most fragile of their human guests (Bran & Jojen). Goats are safer for the Singers too: Leaf gives a population count of "three-score" for her people, and there any implications that they are an "aging population". Singers are small in size, limited in number and their mobility is likely decreasing. The "strength" of any individual Singer is never really expanded upon, beyond their ability to carry Bran around (which... doesn't really say much, given that he's a malnourished nine-year old) and historic difficulties facing humans head-on (bronze weapons & fire, yes, but larger sizes too). Slaughtering domesticated goats would be within the physical capabilities of the Singers we see moving around, hunting bigger (or more aggreesive) game would be Difficult unless Skinchanging was involved (keeping an animal docile enough to restrain and drug with shrooms, the skinchanger leaving before the actual slaughter).
So, shockingly, the "blood" in Blood Stew is just goat sausages (blood, intestines, grain & salt). The "hunks of meat" are Also Goat, for the most part, with Summer's hunts and local vermin (rats, bats, probably not ravens, any safe-for-humans bugs).
Supplementary Protein
Fish are another source of "meat": the Caves have at least one river, home to blind white fish eaten by both Singers & their human guests (differentiating "fish" from game meat would be difficult, given the primary goatiness & the "Stone Soup" vibe of any communal stew).
As Meera speculated, any vermin capable of surviving the supernatural cold, are likely additional ingredients for "Blood Stew". Vermin would be an issue in the Caves, drawn to the Singers having grain stores (oats and barleycorn): these are cold climate crops, making them farmable even This Far North (barley doesn't freeze to death 'til -8° C) though how the Singers could grow these crops in their Caves can only be Handwaved By Magic (For Safety Reasons, skylights or aboveground gardens are Unlikely). That or the Singers used ravens to facilitate Trade with freefolk, when they still lived in the area (the lands of the Thenns are North-West of the Haunted Forest). Magic ravens migjt even be foraging wild grain on the behalf of the Singers: they are fey folk, even without their keeping (stealing) the odd human to act as their personal Eldritch God-Tree Wizard.
The ravens themselves can probably be ruled out as ingredients in Blood Stew: these ravens are Sapient and Divine Envoys besides. There's also the IRL precedent of corvids Holding Grudges: incurring the Wrath of the local avian hivemind would be Enormously Stupid of the Singers. The Murders vastly outnumber the Singers, making peaceful relations Rather Important. Ravens that die prematurely or of injuries (not of sickness: fragile humans are fragile, after all) might be "Fair Game" but, knowing GRRM, the Cave Ravens are probably cannibalistic carrions.
The Cave Ravens would be much more relaxed by Singers harvesting their eggs, outside Mating Season at least. All birds eat their own eggs, making them less "taboo" than one might think. Eggs function as "external food storage" for birds, adults eating unfertilized eggs they lay & babies eating their way out from the egg they hatch from. I could not speculate on how Singers prefer their eggs: in Blood Stew, I could only guess that raven egg yolk would help in "tendering" the goat blood sausages after cold storage.
For all the food sources available to the Singers, the Blood Stews being served "almost everyday" does indicate that Rationing is at play: a Long Night looms and exhausting any food source means losing that food source permanently. Goats, fish, Summer's donations, raven eggs (&/or ravens), vermin and bugs make up the actual "meat" in Blood Stew. The general confusion of the humans as to what their meat is may be further muddled by some "hunks" actually being mushrooms or cheese.
But Humanitarianism!
While zombies are an Awkwardly Plausible Convenience (Coldhands has killed Night's Watch deserters in the vicinity of the Caves & wights were Hidden in the snow surrounding one of its entrances)... consider the state of these wights. The vast majority are rotting, even in the supernaturally cold temperatures and, since Freefolk traditionally burn their dead, the wights that are reanimated likely died in Unsavoury Manners. Even "fresh" or "preserved" corpses are quickly riddled with Unappetizing bacteria and insects. The frozen wights are old, the murdered or forgotten, and all of them Decidedly Unhygienic. Human wights might be safe enough for carrion birds or even the Singers themselves... but they are not safe for their human guests.
Consider the Efforts, the Sacrifices, that enabled Bran's getting to the Singers at all: even with Brynden's "Divine Intervention" (getting the Starklings bodyguards in the form of direwolves, prompting their awakenings as Wargs; encouraging Jojen & thus Meera to meet Bran at Winterfell; bidding Coldhands to save Sam & Gilly, enabling easier passage North via Creepy Eldritch Door, on time to give the kids a "Lift" on his Great Elk), the likelihood of Bran dying was always higher than his surviving. Readers know Bran has Plot Armour but, in-universe, his continued survival has been costly. Getting Bran safely to the Singers was an expensive undertaking, one requiring a great many moving pieces (some of them arguably "moved" before Bran was even born: each Starkling held Potential, some moreso than others, and none of their parents were originally intended for each other).
It is almost certain that Bran was not the first child Brynden Lured North: popular fanon names Euron Greyjoy as an "abandoned" attempt, whilst Jojen was canonically [granted audience? scouted?] only to be "ruled out" (being "only" a greendreamer, Jojen was instead used to Better Bran's Odds of Survival).
While greendreamers and skinchangers are Statistical Anomalies, with persons who are Both being even rarer, Westeros is large enough that having a handful of potential greenseers within generations of each other is a Fair Estimate. No, the issue is the Rarity of Potential Greenseers AND the deadly nature of any "pilgrimage". That only Brynden and Bran are ever named seems to indicate that their managing both trials makes them "worthy" of Reverance, even before "earning" the title of "greenseer". That Bran survived was miraculous and, indeed, Brynden certainly worked "Overtime" in his Acts of Divine Intervention. Even then, Bran (& Jojen's) survival was very much dependent on Summer and Meera's presence in the group: the Singers owe every single member of Team Bran a debt, all of them serving vital roles in getting them a Shiny New God-Tree for their collectiom.
What does Divine Intervention and Debts of Hospitality have to do with Blood Stew, with an "Exciting" Opportunity for Hypothetical "Humanitarianism"?
Simple: Bran is too important to the Singers for them to Risk his health by their serving "Bad Meat". Imagine going to such great lengths to find a Fresh Godling, the relief that This Godling survived to meet his destiny... only for their Godling to get killed by food poisoning.
"And They Were Roommates"
The only meal noted as being Separately Prepared for any of the humans is Bran's Weirwood Paste: what one of them eats, all of them eat. That means that one of the humans getting sick (Jojen being the most susceptible), risks all of them catching ill. While each of the humans does "disappear" now and then, exploring or generally doing their own thing, the extreme cold of their environment (their extended time traumabonding with each other) means that they all share the same sleeping chamber. They share furs, body heat, breath.
While the Singers could very easily isolate the humans from each other (if only for quarrantine purposes), keeping them together is "safer": the humans would recognise sickness or distress in each othed before the Singers could and the humans already know how to take care of each other. The Singers being Good Hosts is in their best interests, not only in currying favour with their new god-in-training but also to ensure said godling survives to do any "Ascending".
Children Are Fragile: Why "Bad Meat" Isn't An Option
Grand Futures of Kingship & God-Treehood aside, at this point in time, Bran Stark is nine-years old. Human children, even Super Magical Starklings, are still children. And children are fragile.
Bran is still recovering from Attempted Murder, with his injuries limiting his independent mobility in ways his society cannot truly accomodate (not as a Prince of Winterfell & definitely not as a half-frozen cave kid). An inability to walk isn't the greatest danger of Bran's disabilities: thermoregulation of half his body is. Bran's friends are better able to recognise Bran's symptoms of physical distress than Bran is, than the Singers could. The humans also have greater strength and mobility: the Singers only seem to have three fingers on each hand and, while Bran is unlikely to grow much bigger given his environment, he will be getting some growth spurts soon. It's unknown how long Bran is expected to need "training" from Brynden, how long he will be carried to & from the communal sleepchamber and his weirwood throne. The Singers might just Graft Bran to his Throne once he's too big for them to safely carry but, again, there is no timeline given for Bran's progress. Better to keep "Hodor" about, thinketh the much tinier Singers.
Jaime's Murder Attempt also put Bran into a prolonged coma, one he was Fortunate to awaken from. That Bran has not exhibited any of the more "inconvient" (or dangerous) consequences of a longterm coma is almost certainly Brynden's "Divine Intervention" at work. Surprising lack of cognitive issues (temporary or longlasting) aside, Bran's coma & his subsequent state of "perpetual bedrest" has left his body much weaker the average child. He's already malnourished, traumatised and struggling to stay warm: Bran getting sick, even a "minor" sickness like a cold or bout of mild food poisoning? That could kill him.
Even if Bran doesn't die from an illness, recovery would be Difficult in such as a Hostile Environment: it is cold, it is dark (no sunlight whatsoever), and [Food Insecurity] is an ongoing reality. If a person is already physically weakened, minor illnesses can very easily escalate into more serious ones. There are no Maesters, no Medicine Women for Bran. The Singers have magic bit they are fey while Bran is (at present) terrifyingly mortal. Keeping Bran alive means keeping him healthy and doing that requires keeping the Other Humans 'healthy" too: serving the "spares" Questionably Sourced Meat is against the Best Interests of the Singers, their Investment in Keeping Bran Alive.
(For now, at least.)
The Jojen Problem
The terrifying fragility of their Future God-King aside, a more "immediate" danger to the continued existence of the Cave Singers is Jojen Reed: that is, Jojen's consistent lack of good health.
Bran was a healthy child who became very vulnerable very suddenly: Jojen, meanwhile, has been "sickly" for Years. Not only is Jojen "small" for his age (14-ish), he is often described as "shaking". IRL, people get tremours for any number of reasons, and comorbid conditions are not unusual. There is valid reason to view Jojen's "shakes" as symptoms of an ongoing, chronic health condition. Jojen might have a chronic illness, lasting side effects from the fever that nearly killed him, and he's had ample opportunity to acquire some [head trauma] over the series. Jojen's "shaking fits" may also be his physiology "teaming up" with psychological trauma: muscular twitches from the stress of hypervigilance, shakiness borne of anxiety & stress, atypically expressed panic attacks (that can resemble seizures in their physicality).
While Jojen's Ambiguous Disorders are decidedly non-contagious (going by IRL counterparts), Jojen's predisposition to "sickliness" makes him just as vulnerable to Death By Minor Illness as Bran, if not moreso given Jojen's Current Psychological State.
The Terrifying Fragility of Jojen Reed
Jojen, for Very Justified Reasons, is Very Depressed. Depression, in fiction & IRL, makes people more susceptible to catching illnesses and makes recovery more difficult. That is true even when a person is not deliberately enabling (or passively "allowing") an illness to harm them.
Jojen "this is not the day I die" Reed is exhibiting every sign of suicidal ideation that Bran, his friend & fellow fragile tiny human, can pick up on. Meera, the Designated Adult of Team Bran at the wise old age of 17 & Jojen's big sister, has become genuinely concerned that Jojen's (passive) Death Wish has become an Active one.
Jojen has long believed that he is Functionally Immortal outside of Greywater Watch: his very first Greendream was, after all, a vision of his own Death. It's not unreasonable to suspect that said Death Dream is a recurring one, that Present Circumstances (Brynden's Body Horror, the complete lack of sunlight) have Exacerbated the frequency of Jojen's Dreaming of Death. Meera, obligatory loyalty to House Stark aside, has stated that her primary incentive to follow Bran, to Go North and remain there while Bran [gets made into a tree-wizard]... was to save Jojen from his Death Wish.
Reasons to Fear Meera Reed
Meera is the "healthiest" of all the humans in Team Bran: she's able-bodied, physically mature (short, yes, but strong), lethal with a net & spear... and the primary caregiver of everyone in their group.
Summer (2 y/o) helps, with scouting and hunting and bodyguarding. Walder (17 or older) helps, kind and physically powerful. Jojen (14 y/o) helped, with Uncanny Wisdom and foresight and faith in Bran. Bran (9 y/o) is, of course, the Designated Hero of his chapters (this is Greatly Limited by his being only nine-years old).
Meera (17-ish) did all that and more. Meera hunted, guarded, scouted, foraged, killed, climbed... and did so as a non-magical human, relying on her experience as a crannogmen and her Father's Daughter.
Meera keeps up morale and tells [Very Helpful] Stories, leads where Walder and the children cannot, posseses Common Sense & life experience, mediates when the children are fighting (scolds them for taking their frustrations out on each other), senses Social Danger that Summer might miss, skins prey & butchers it (ensuring none of it goes to waste). Meera is a survivalist, one canny of the Old Ways, a "Modern" example of why the First Men so successfully survived in Westeros.
And the Singers of the Cave are Old. They Know the capabilities of Humans, the single greatest threat the Singers have ever known. The Singers Remember: the Pact, the 4000 years of war before it; the First Men, their axes; the Andals, their iron & blasphemy. The Singers know Human as Invaders and Desecrators and (sometimes) Allies. The Singers also "know" the Consequences of a Human who FeelsToo Much.
Humans, historically, have Little Issue with Seeings Things Burn. Humans, it seems, will respond to Any Strong Emotion with Bronze or Iron or Fire.
Cold? A Human will find a Tree and set it on fire.
Hungry? A human will Kill Something and heat it... over fire.
Dead? Other humans gather, collect the deceased, set the body on fire.
Grieving? A human will find iron, demand answers, find you. And should your "Answers" prove unsatisfactory? Humans will set fire to YOU, your settlement, your Gods.
Meera is very, very "human". She is the most human of her group: Bran is, of course, a God-Tree sapling; Jojen is Greensighted, not long for his human flesh and soon to join You in the Trees; the one called "Hodor" reminds You of the Giants, long ago foes and more recent allies but all but a few Gone to the Earth.

Meera is the Single Greatest Threat to the Cave Singers, who believe themselves the "last" of their people. Meera is a Consiserable Threat to the Last Greenseer, whom she has grown to Suspect and Resent. Meera does not, at least, carry on her person any axe (she wields spear and net and shield).
Meera can definitely start a fire. Meera would willingly start a Fire, a pyre for her brother built from the Last Greenseer himself. Meera would gladly burn out the Last of the Singers, for Vengeance and as Sacrifices to stay the suit of wights (of Others) as she Flees South and homeward (taking your Prince, your Shiny New God-Tree, the Last Hope of your People with her for spite alone).
That's All, Folks!
So, no: "Blood Stew" is not made from people. It is not made of Jojen or Meera, it is Goat and Vermin and Bugs. It is occasionally made with Squirrels. The "blood" is black pudding, goat's blood and intestines salted to ensure no goat goes to waste: their hides and furs warm the children, their blood and flesh sustains them, their cheese enables their exercising in philosophy. Wights are just too dangerous, to hunt or serve for supper: Bran (& Jojen) cannot be risked for the sake of morbid convenience. Live humans are right out, too much bigger and stronger than the Singers, or too dearly missed by The Scariest Being North of The Wall.

Like. Obviously a character’s transed gender doesn’t need to be thematically relevant or whatever, but your reading of death note makes light being trans surprisingly important. Like, he made the choice to be a dude but neglected to avoid (or even really question) many of the toxic elements of the masculinity he embraced, and that’s what doomed him. He’s contrasted in his transed gender by L, who didn’t embrace those elements as *he* became a dude, but was doomed because he didn’t demand his boyfriend to question them.
Compression of whatever the fuck my last ask was:
Light transed his gender and immediately began working to embody his ideal of “a dude” without questioning if any aspects of that ideal would be unhealthy or dangerous, dooming him.
In contrast, L didn’t do that, but he sure did ignore it in Light, and that’s what doomed him.

i’ve talked a little bit about this kdrama here, but when i tell you i’ve become mildly obsessed with this kdrama...i’ve become mildly obsessed. it’s about these rich families and everything they’re doing to achieve power/stay in power. the characters are all so very complex, and i honestly can’t describe too much more of the kdrama just because it’s so bonkers, but if you like a good revenge plot, this is...def. the kdrama to watch.

ngl, i cried a lot watching this movie. like, i think i cried...at least three times? basically, this movie is about these two people who keep waking up in each other’s bodies, and things get even more complicated from there. this movie really utilizes the japanese myth of the red string of fate, and it’s really lovely. i didn’t think i’d care for it, but i fell in love. also, the soundtrack is amazing. also, just...there’s something so beautiful about two people just being tied together by some twist of fate. very romantic, also very much a coming-of-age story too. i am honestly so blown away by it, not to mention the beautiful animation.

i’ve talked about this podcast ad nauseum here, but like.......ugh no the way this is literally one of the cutest audio drama podcasts ever. it’s just about two fanfic writing gals, and it’s really cute. also really very gay. also really cute. i literally have listened to the last episode 4 times because i can’t get over how adorable they are.
documentary: paris is burning

so i actually watched this documentary for a class, and i’m glad i watched it. this documentary goes into the drag queen scene in 1980s new york. like, idk i don’t really know transgender history, and i feel like it’s just important to learn. i honestly felt kind of sad watching this documentary, mostly because you see a lot of folks talking about their dreams of wealth and comfort, while you, as a 21st century audience member, know that that’s just...really hard for trans folks to procure. there’s some more complicated history behind this documentary, i think, but overall i think it’s an important piece to watch if you want to learn more about your queer history and also just how the black and latinx community really contributed and made up a lot of the queer world we know today.
music: oh boy. so much music.
i mean, y’all know i have to mention fearless (taylor’s version) for the obvious reasons, but i’ve genuinely enjoyed?? this?? version?? i was afraid that it wouldn’t feel the same and that i’d want the nostalgia factor, but like...the nostalgia factor is still there. and taylor’s voice has def. improved, and like,,,now i can’t really listen to the old fearless? mayhaps blasphemous, but i really enjoy taylor’s matured voice, and just hearing her now handle the notes that she might have struggled with as a teenager just makes me :’)) because wow, look at how far she’s come.
i’ve also been really in love with girl in red’s debut album if i could make it go quiet, again for the obvious reasons. it’s really a wonderful debut album, and i’m so in love with girl in red’s sounds because she can really go from soft and quiet to just hard-hitting, clashing sounds but in a good way? my favorite track has to be did you come? just because of how much it just slaps. it’s bitter, but it’s the kind of bitter that makes you feel like....satisfied. idk how else to explain it lol. i’m also a big fan of midnight love, because it’s quiet, but it’s also...very sad. very much a song you’d listen to at 2 am alone in your bedroom.
but i guess my fave for the month has to be this lovely playlist of all the classical music in barbie movies, specifically the ballet ones. listen......listen, let me just re-live my childhood, okay? barbie movies slap, actually, and i’m really glad that it got me to appreciate this music more.
and, last but not least...i’ve been mildly obsessed with from the new world, which is, yes, another classical piece, and yes, it was also in a barbie movie, but it was also used in the kdrama penthouse, and i’ve been mildly obsessed with all of the parts, because ooooh boy, you want to feel like a princess dancing alone in a ballroom as the world burns? you want to feel like you just murdered some elite in their bedroom? bro--
and i’ve also talked about this piece, but i’ve been mildly obsessed with vivaldi’s winter, just because...okay yeah no penthouse has somehow renewed my love and interest in classical music, and i’ve already discussed how this piece unleashes some feral feeling inside of me, but like...BRO WHY DOES THIS PIECE SLAP SO HARD. i know this is hardly news and this is hardly a rec because this piece is so well-known, and you’ve most certainly heard it at least once, but like...........no i’m about to become insufferable with my love for classical music again send help

I genuinely don’t understand where people get the whole “drama queen” from. Like, he’s a catastrophic communicator and embarrassing, but drama queen?! He’s always perfectly nice unless people ask him bullshit questions ... I just don’t understand?!

This got so long, for once I am genuinely sorry about making something so long.
I think a lot of people misinterpret his actions and things he says as him doing it for the sake of drama rather than there being actual regular issues.
To him, me, and probably also Till, the general band disagreements and the Mutter issue don't read like a lot of people read them. For a start, it wasn't/isn't all him (why do people love to ignore that Paul especially is just as much of a problem when it comes to guitarist disagreements? And the others played a part too), but also I think there are explanations that make way more sense than writing him off as just a drama queen.
Richard has a lot of trauma from being abused and emotionally neglected as a child, from the country he's from, from likely not being NT, from fleeing and essentially becoming a refugee. His thinking seems to be more black and white than is maybe useful. I'm not sure of his drug use timeline but that's also potentially a factor.
All of those things impact the way you communicate with people, how you handle criticism, how you go about relying on other people (he wasn't able to rely on people he should have as a kid and that doesn't just go away) and pretty much everything else that relates to the way the guys clash. That's not even touching on the problems the other guys have, including Paul and his trust issues.
So yeah, maybe he sees arguments as worse than they objectively are because he learned to expect that (though I'm pretty sure a lot of the 'it wasn't that bad' is damage control and time), but it's not to be dramatic or cause problems for the sake of causing problems or getting attention or anything else. It's how he genuinely reads the situation because of trauma and his sensitivity levels. Being a sensitive person and being a drama queen are not the same thing.
A lot of the Mutter situation was about Richard doing too much and the band feeling like they had to do it too to keep up: they didn't feel like the division of the band and work was working. So far I've never seen one of them say Richard directly caused the problem, just that what Richard was doing made the problems. That sounds like the same thing but it isn't, it's all about intent. Example: If someone answers a load of asks really well one day and it makes me feel bad because I have a large backlog and can take Forever to write back that's not the same as them saying anything about me/other people who haven't answered as many, you know? Yeah, eventually it became arguments that heavily involved and, depending on who you ask, targeted Richard, but he didn't cause it the way a lot of fans assume.
And then on Richards side, it wasn't that he set out to cause trouble: he was struggling with how intense his need to create and desire do do it Correctly was. A lot of that stems from his awful self esteem and feeling like if he isn't creating good things he has no worth. He's right when he calls himself a very creative person, and that's not always a useful thing. Imagine being a writer, writing maybe a book every five years, and then coauthoring with a much more prolific author like Stephen King. Stressful.
Mayhaps instead of blaming him we should say 'Oof sometimes people really need to take the time to learn to communicate effectively with each other huh?'. They all were contributing.
There's a quote, I'll see if I can dredge it up, about Paul or Schneider(?) basically having to do research to learn how to talk to Richard. I think it's a really important thing to keep in mind that other than maybe the occasional remark, which can be made towards anyone, they don't seem to see him as a drama queen. Occasionally dramatic (as everyone is, it's not the same), maybe overly sensitive for some of them, but they still love him. They're still friends.
Hes not melodramatic, expressing honestly and plainly things like not wanting to record another album because he's tired is not a bad thing. He says he hates touring, then he says he loves touring with Rammstein, and they're both true statements, he just doesn't hide his inconvenient or contradictory feelings the way a lot of people do. ~That's not drama~. Imagine me singing that with much drama and vibrato, ironically, as thats how I typed it.
The Drama Queen thing in this community seems to be half genuinely thinking that and half boiling them down like fictional characters for ease or because it's what people are used to. Richard is the dramatic one, Flake is the grumpy one, Paul is always a ray of sunshine etc. It's not true, that's not how people work in real life, but it's easy to slip into when you don't have a personal relationship with someone. No room for nuance or contradictions or change.
In summary: Richard is just a person and I'm very grateful he started Emigrate and learned to siphon off the need to create and control their creativity.
Sidenote: Schneider said in this interview that they never almost broke up and yet in the Mutter making of he completely contradicts himself.

In Which A Letter Was Penned, And Ultimately Fed to Flames
"Whatcha wanna do? We should get some more meatballs, A LOT OF MEATBALLS-"
"Puffy, not now…"
"MEATBAAALLLLS-" The worm continued to shriek in about ten different pitches before settling down, if Ves could even remotely call it that.
He was exhausted. He looked it, felt it, everything.
Who knew selling weapons- or rather, being used as target practice for selling said weapons, could be so tiring?
Of course it was. At the very least it got him up and moving again (running, even) which was more than he had been doing in the last odd-something months.
He still hadn't been paid though. Part of him wondered when he would be. The other half told him to be patient. But with debts hanging over his head...that much was very difficult.
"Time for bed? Time for bed time for bed." Puffy repeated several times, only daring to pop out of Ves’ body entirely once they were sure his room had been secured.
The 'boss' (Ves didn't consider him as such even though he technically was) had paid for rooms for all of them in the city to stay in for the night. And they were relatively nice ones at that. He had the gil and more, after all.
Puffy squirmed around the small room, getting under furniture, or into it, or on it. Nothing was off limits. Not even the window. He pushed it open to look outside. "Lights!! Wow!! So pretty."
Ves ran a hand down his face as he came over to make sure he didn't fling himself out to the street below. "I suppose." There were always a lot of lights in Ul'dah, no matter the time of day. It was like the city never slept. For a moment the knight lingered there by the window shutters, looking out into the night along with the worm who quickly became bored of the view and jumped off to go investigate someplace else. "I've hardly spent any time here,"
"Spent more time in Lima Limmy Loma. Water town. Thingy. Hhhhhh…"
Ves' ear twitched as he looked over his shoulder. "Limsa Lominsa." He corrected.
"WHATEVER!!" Puffy hopped around at the foot of the bed, trying to climb up the side of the sheets. It wasn't working. "UP!! LEMME UP! AAAAA-"
"Stop screaming." Ves came over, stooping down to pick Puffy up and depositing him onto the bed after. "Don't get everything covered in slime. I'd hate to be the one who cleans up after that in particular."
"People do worse."
"Y...Yes but it's still- anyway don't make a mess!"
Puffy gurgled as he crawled under the blanket, popping out again to lay his mouth-head on the pillow. "SLEEP TIME IS NOW. COME."
The knight ignored him and sat at the small table that was near the window. There was a paper package he'd only noticed at that moment lying on the other chair. "I'll be along in a moment."
"NOW!!!"
Carefully he came over and picked up the parcel. Was it left here on accident? It felt light but not too light. It could bend like fabric… they had to be clothes. He undid the twine and removed the paper all together, revealing a brand new leather vest, several high quality long sleeve shirts and a pair of neatly folded black trousers. Sitting on top of it all was a card.
He took it and turned it over several times. The handwriting of the note inside was unfamiliar to him. But he heard the speaker's "voice" right away in his head.
Got you some new duds that aren't so dusty or stuffy looking. New boots are under the table. No need to thank me, consider them a gift for your first official day on the job.

He hadn't even realized he had been holding his breath the entire time he spent reading the card. With a sharp exhale, the knight glanced towards the door, half expecting the gold-toothed miqo'te to spring forth. He did not.
So he looked under the table instead. There were the boots, as promised.
Ves furrowed his brows. Mostly in thought.
"GIFTS?" Puffy called out.
"I think so." He was confused. "I'm not sure why."
Puffy laid there, wriggling back and forth excitedly, "Cat man's funny. I LIKE HIM."
"I was afraid of that." Ves placed the card and clothes on top of the table.
He knew Lowrey's game all too well. The guy was looking to forget with massive amounts of debauchery.
Ves could have said he too had been looking to forget by preoccupying himself with all sorts of things… but not in the same way.
No doubt the cat would be asking what he thought about all this. If he liked it. Frankly? He had no idea. It was a nice gesture he appreciated, but it didn't go any farther than that.
Not usually anyway.
Admittingly, the knight did sometimes wondered what it'd be like. To not care about anything except the moment at hand.
It SEEMED fun...sometimes…
Ves shook his head. No, none of that now, he thought to himself.
Puffy didn't answer, so he assumed he was finally alone in his own head. What a relief.
Rather than coming to bed, he got up and went for his satchels, digging around until he found a piece of blank parchment and a writing tool. Mei called them ‘ball-point pens’, and they were much more useful than quills.
Puffy somehow drifted off to sleep by the time he returned to the table, where he sat down and began to write.
Not a letter to Lowrey.
Nor to anyone else who could possibly receive it.
He didn't know why. He didn't question it. He only knew that he wanted to, in the moment.
And so he did.

My dearest,
I find myself in Ul'dah this night, and likely for several more after that. I have been to the three major cities of the south a fair amount of times now, but I fear they will be settings I might never become acclimated to.
Almost regrettably, I miss the chill of the north sometimes. The mountains and their rolling green hills when the summers were still warm and sunny, the bitter frost of winter and all of its harsh storms. The weather here is far more mild and manageable, allowing people to thrive much more than they would in Coerthas it seems.
Recently I have taken up work with a rather peculiar fellow. He hails from Doma in the Far East yet his given name does not reflect so. I've reason to believe it may not be his real name at all. Considering the questionable business practices he keeps his hands in, he is quite...well… truly there is no other way to put this: He is an odd one. And his associates even moreso. How they've managed to become as relatively well-established in terms of monetary gains is a mystery. Or maybe not. I am unsure if I am interested in knowing any further details.
In the meantime I've been put to work in selling weapons for him, of which I am learning is no easy feat when the locals are extremely skeptical. How can I blame them? With the war against Garlemald in full swing in the recently reclaimed Ala Mhigo, anyone would be wary of a merchant's workers who came touting the promise of supplying protection via the very weapons their, or rather OUR, enemies use against us.
I too found myself quite suspicious of such notions… though, so far I have found no sinister motives buried far beneath the current task at hand. I pray it stays as such, at least until I have received payment for my work.
Puffy has been well behaved during my time here, which has also been a pleasant surprise. There will be the occasional noise or interruption as is custom with him, but thus far? It has not been anything I couldn't manage or keep hidden away. I also pray this factor remains unchanged for the remainder of my time in Ul'dah, or any of the other cities we visit in the near future.
Tonight a parcel of new clothing has been left for me by one of my associates. I am painfully aware of the ulterior motive behind its delivery, or some of it at the very least. I feel almost guilty for it, though I am aware that this could possibly be the reaction its sender was seeking or hoping for in the first place.
I would like to show gratitude properly, but I fear it may be misconstrued as something else. Even saying so leads me to feel very…
It’s almost cruelly ironic in a way. But I will get into that another day.
I have been thinking about many things these past several months. About all that's happened, about all that could be, here and there, though imagining such things tends to be quite frightening.
My current situation leaves me in debt with many different people, and I have known that I’ve become a burden upon them for quite some time now. It is not a feeling I harbor proudly in the slightest. I think I understand now why elders were often so adamant about living with their children, or with other family. As I grow older, I find I enjoy the company and the security, while, and I am ashamed to admit this, contributing so very little. It simply is not held to me at the same level anymore as it would be to a young man.
But seeing as I am not staying with family, as, I have none to speak of now, I feel the pressure of the arguably immense burden I have indeed become. I do not know how to address it, or if I even should do so verbally. I pray my actions and repayment of the debts I owe will hopefully be enough. Yes, obviously, Eurovision: You Decide might as well be the safest NF to ever exist. We get that you don’t want to even try, the UK, but can you please act like you’re not in Big 5 for a year and ATTEMPT to try your hardest with the song??? I doubt that, despite SuRie’s bubbliness, “Storm” would’ve pulled numbers if it were in semi, unless the anti-neo-Nazi stage invader were to butt-in there and people would then send sympathy televotes the Brits’ way or something. Unsatisfying. (The man, that is.)
And so we have gotten another safe as ever British entry this year, performed by an excited personality that got a side-dish song and now is tasked to sell the side-dish as greatly as he’s possibly able to - the first season of All Together Now winner, Michael Rice! The dish is “Bigger than Us” and I’m neither glad nor sad the song has not enough factor to eat up Michael as a whole if it’s that much BIGGER. Not even the fact that it’s a Melodifestivalen reject (yes, the title IS correct, one of the song’s co-writers, whom I’ll name later, has possibly said it at some point, and he couldn’t keep it to himself anymore so he sent it over to another country!) could help this poor number out.
If you strip the singer off, you just get a stereotypical Eurovision-y ballad you overhear when scavenging through foreign NF catalogues, wondering which kind of rent-a-songwriter-program person contributed to it. Well John Lundvik (yes THAT one) doesn’t sound like THAT kind of name you’d hear when you think of songwriters of such shtick but Laurell Barker is, so there you go. These are just the two masterminds behind this one, as there are more but icr their names and honestly idc to.
And there’s nothing wrong about these typical ESC NF shlocks. Only when you’re young and dumb enough to enjoy these kind of songs, but I had to unfortunately grow up and see just how “useful” they are... n’t. I mean, it’s great for the artists whose big dream is to taste Eurovision and NOT as a backing singer, but most of the time the singers that get these songs can’t even slightly relate to what they sing, and thus we get people like Bishara entering Melodifestivalen and Isaiah entering Eurovision.
Maybe Michael did get to experience the kind of love that’s BIGGER than him and his partner, idk. I certainly don't want to bother asking him. And frankly, it's only me overthinking this issue, because ain't nobody in the world really got time for that, definitely. Well, at least the relationship’s going on nice! (except for when Mike sings “‘cause I can heare the universe when I’m feeling you breathe”... spooky. o.I)
Anyway, time to get to talk more about the song. It's actually not THAT bad, just a little too typical and unextraordinary, where in the current times the Eurovision has to not be predictable in sound and to excite the viewer with... well, anything that can excite anyone. Be it the visuals OR the song. OR both. What's so special about "Bigger than Us" that can keep the viewer on toes? Probably just that keychange. I wish there were more things about it but not every commentator out there would have enough time to let them people know Michael works in a waffle shop, let alone the time that "HE WON A TALENT SHOW'S FIRST SEASON BUT THE SHOW ISN'T THE X FACTOR OR THE VOICE ZOMFG!!". Let alone people even listen to any Eurovision commenting these days, lol. It might be a charming little piece for some people though, but I don't see them voting for people selling their songs vocally much more than songs that draw in viewers with different ways. It's just a standart talent show winner song for a standart talent show winner that sounds like it's slightly too stuck in the mid-to-late-00s-early-10s rather than the 90s, which is warm and cool and all, but it's likely gonna not do the cool lad Michael the justice he'd need, just like SuRie's song for SuRie. Mayhaps a top 20-ish, or, in Lucie's case, even a top 15, is possible (although it's mostly thanks to the juries - they're the only ones eating up big voice ballads. And anything Maltese. And anything Australian. And anything Swedish... that only represents Sweden. Sorry Lukas Meijer), but when the British optimism levels are set in a deep deep ditch by default every year when the BBC comes with their platter of choices for EYD, what else could be there to raise them up after even Lucie hasn't done that amazing enough for everyone to believe that the UK are capable more than just always finishing last with 0 every year? Of course, a better than average song, but does BBC care about even pulling one out of a songwriting camp? These kind of songs are too shite for their taste, apparently, so with songs they send like these, it's probably yet another meander-er.
Which is a shame, because once again, it's not bad. It's just too plain Jane for Eurovision anymore. It's like everyone dressed up gorgeously for Miss Universe's National Costume event and you went with a cheap-ish designer dress that is decorated by small details that are notoriously known as the country's symbols just to count as something "national". It's like everyone brough their best baked (and dare I say extreme) dish to a dish competition and you only brought in a nice looking baked cod and circled the fries around it. It's like a prom night where everyone dresses casually and you come up all in a dull olive colored jacket and jeans with torn out knees. There might be something hidden in its niceness that can conquer (nice piano, nice chords, nice vocals, nice chorus, nice song formula, nice choir, nice keychange, nice message)... but with everything too nice, it just feels like that the UK are not feeling like getting a 'nice' result. Unless there's something that can make Michael do a 'male Lucie' and launch it around the 14th-19th place at best, but...
And here's the section where I repeat myself some more of what I think of the song as a whole and chances as a whole:
Approval factor: Eh I'll probably have to approve this but only reluctantly somewhat, maybe because I felt positive on the first listen unlike these people who wanted UK to dare to do something else than safe... yeah lol

Provided Michael gives all out personality-wise though and the revamp’s not gonna suck balls (if there’s one), this is a decent step in a decent direction for the UK... hope Michael’s not getting stage-invaded by anti-Israel people!
Big 5 factor: Thanks to all this pre-partying kicking in heavily as I put out these reviews (and actually having finished), it turns out that Michael is one of those people that clearly works his hardest to sell this typical British averageness (like he sells his waffles), with his live being so decent enough he was thought of to be a perfect EYD winner this year, so, if he keeps building up his vocal strenghts and rehearses a lot (and stays well and such), he’s actually likely to at least achieve something above bottom 7! Yes, yes, John Lundvik is still the master that will beat his pupil in the end, but that wouldn’t seem that excruciating for the UK anymore if they happen to have a place that’s not bottom 3 or anything. Just for the Michael to do his utmost best out there, and if he does, the UK won’t be in an extremely bad position this year - just not a very high reacher, because at the end of the day there are more nations that run straight with their A-game and therefore continue leaving the common-appealers in the dust. Only Sweden (and Australia until 2018 or so) usually excels at their safeness. The others must outstand to survive. And to wrap things up on this factor section, imo the UK just meanders in the safeness for another year - but at least the good enough safeness that might even be able to qualify if it were sent by a semifinalist country! Bianca and Dulcima (or Darline idk) from 2016, Holly and Salena from 2017, Asanda (and maybe Jaz? or even Raya??) from 2018 and... ponder no more, Kerrie-Anne’s got you covered in that spot! Her version of the two one’s of “Sweet Lies” was arguably the greatest possible choice for the NF (or, in this case, the “very least bad”, and eventhough it’s incredibly reminiscent of Sigala’s “Sweet Lovin’” (vocals provided by Bryn Christopher, who - controversial opinion - is probably my fave male singer of all time), which makes it “dated” (to a 2012-2014 pop radio degree, yes), it still was a bop that I’d want to dance to in rollerskates (if I had any!!) and spray the colourful smoke things that... well idk what it is but the said video of “Sweet Lovin’” demonstrates the action. When there’s at least the drought of the ever-so-good entries in an EYD, we can look back at the hosts provided us some entertainment we’ve probably been missing while trying to find some on those competing entries. My favourite moment throughout that evening was the “next up is” jokes, all randomly stringed together, all in one row - all of those “next ups” were so hilariously random (until one hit the point - I think it was something about adverts or another performance being next up).
• The postcards were lovely too. With the format of EYD upgraded to make it as a three-song duel between two different versions of each one and the juries deciding on the best one for each (one vote per version), we got to see some nice friendships over there (I mean, a postcard for two people who did duel over whose version is the best - they had to listen and compliment each others’ versions) and some nice things the artists said themselves on separate postcards. Like the time when the only band of the competition of the year’s, MAID, named Buranovskiye Babushki as one of their girlband idols (a ‘so random yet glorious‘ answer) and the victorious Michael confessing that he’s “never been to Tel(iv) Aviv”... that’s true Michael, I believe ya. You’ve so never been there that ou struggle to even say it right! Not to mention that the postcard setups were cozy, too.
• Can we all just kind of agree that at least the jury for EYD made THE BEST CHOICES POSSIBLE??? I mean, yeah, it’s a biT cruel they’re the ones to choose the superfinalists without the audience’s interference, but they still made the best choices possible, at least imo. Anisa’s “Sweet Lies” was a godawfully dreary sex slow-jam (no really, I can’t not imagine a scenario where you can’t use it anywhere other than a sex scene in a movie, or a steamy hot shower scene. Call me crazy-minded but it’s true), MAID’s “Freaks” was godawfully too creepy, strange and unbearable, and Holly Tandy’s “Bigger than Us”... well... while much more chill and way less overbearing (also with not enough “BIGGER” memes potential), it would have probably not stood out all that much - just written off as a Kygo remix rented for a cheap price of half a pound (but still co-written by John Lundvik though!!). So thanks to Rylan and the other two for picking the superfinalists reasonably, unlike A Dal jurors this year. It still wrenches my gut whenever I think about it, ugh.
• What even would be an appearance of Måns if he didn't try to remind y'all of his enthusiasm for Eurovision. No one really cares he won Eurovision 4 years ago, if anything, I dread that he's only being remembered as the "male singer guy of Love Love Peace Peace song" by the newer fans. At least Pepperidge Farm I remember how Måns really wanted to get to Eurovision (even if he didn't participate in that many Melodifestivalen editions). So in this year's EYD he went all out to be a part of the Eurovision best (British?) songs medley (and we got Katrina and the Waves later in the show, performing the nation's last winning hit, 22 years later... and that wasn't even a fully British-branded win, if yanno what I mean!), and it's all courtesy of the Melodifestivalen's best known scriptwriter and an occasional Eurovision commentator (and Melodifestivalen's narrator too), Edward af Sillén. Or at least I remember it being written that he has written some stuff for Måns to do in EYD, IDK. Eitherway, it was kind of a fun thing, the interlude. Just remembering all the nice Eurovision entries out there, even including Gina G (whose ESC entry was also sung by another person in another NF whose review will be up next I suppose!).
• Heyyyyy, wasn’t it all kinds of nice to see SuRie doing an interval act and a reprise of her own run-of-the-mill entry “Storm”? I applaud her of doing a tremendous piano rendition of it, with even singing some notes a little higher than in the actual song. Maybe THAT version could have done so much better in Lisbon - showing off SuRie’s vocal decency, intimacy and... idk about the intruder part, hopefully he’d have had no way to wrestle the mic out of SuRie’s hands that time. At least SuRie had just enough support from Eurofans to be wanted to represent the UK one more year in a row, with a special EYD designed for her, where the songs could be mostly composed by her and not by the useless songwriting camp. While it’s a nice idea for some British and non-British people to get to know each other on these camps, the end results barely end up satisfying because the artists barely get involved in the songs they’re singing - not even a song line, not even a hum of contribution! Why can’t you at least take examples from German songwriting camps... (except for the time “Sister” was invented, that one could have been a perfect contribution for an EYD (not necessarily in this year’s format but still)
All in all, this may seem like an improvement of things, but I still am really hoping that BBC will give into a decent internal selection... afterall there are good names that are down to do Eurovision and didn’t even say it will harm their ‘reputation’ (*cough* Paloma Faith *cough* Hurts), and yet BBC refuses them somehow, not thinking that Eurovision is more than just a SONG contest (while ironically not even having their songs sounding THAT ‘great’, oops)? Or at least reformat EYD big time and make it exciting a la Australia Decides is (you know you suck when even your colony does better NFs than you). For now, I’ll just grit my teeth and nicely wish Michael Rice all the best in Tel(iv) Aviv. You’ll need it, chap! And in secret I hope that you’ll get it xx
