i may not be a reader of the romance genre but i will always support it.. do i realistically care that the love interest is a little overboard with his protectiveness... that he's a bit fucked up and violent.. no i dont.. of course people arent reading these books to be examples for real life.. like they know its literally fiction why do we assume theyre dumb.. women have been reading these for self indulgence for centuries and throughout time they'vealways been called shallow for it.. and i support these readers.. there's always going to be a pushback against romance stories .. and i will always stand by their right to exist with all their unrealistic rose tinted lenses

#had some conversations about old books recently and this is my conclusion #now i do strongly believe that romances SHOULD be held up to a critical lens but i do NOT think it constructive to criticise features of the #genre such as Emphasis On Romance or Overprotective Love Interest or Conflict Centred Around Emotions Rather Than Action #however i am very willing to discuss like. is this plot engaging. how developed are other characters not involved in the central romance.#elements of prejudice within the story. lack of focus..#like there can be a lot to critique in a romance #but trust me it's not useful to start firing at the fact there is romance in the romance story #anyway whatever this is unrelated to anything i have just been THINKING #another disclaimer yes ik women arent the only ones who consume romance stories however they are a primary demographic and i think that this #is relevant to the conversation #anyway this is nothing to do with mcyt i GUESSS tho it's a little to do with how we treat ship fics actually. whatever send post

I hatehatehate fanfic.net’s layout. I just spent the last three hours scrolling through their hellsite(not affectionate) looking for one fic whose title I don’t remember that I read back in high school. Their filters are shit, their tagging system is horrible. And I’m remembering why I finally switched to ao3 when I saw how little interaction there is between creators and readers, and what little there is tells me there’s a reason for the delete comment button.

#cyber bullying is a horrible thing #and when you can’t comment back due to the site’s idiotic layout or even retaliate #the commenters think they have free rein #THAT is the primary reason I left bc I kept getting bombed with variations of ‘your writing sucks you should kill yourself’#and ‘maybe don’t write in this fandom’#I WAS 14 WHEN I STARTED #OF COURSE MY WRITING SUCKED #but instead of constructive criticism and helpful suggestions to become a better writer #I just got hate from others (other writers even!)#they’re incredibly territorial and the whole site is toxic #rant post #personal #fanfic.net #also #i did manage to find the fic but not before mangling my sanity on their stupid filters

I WANT TO BE FUN AND CHILL BUT I ALWAYS HAVE A MIGRAINE

#this week is so fucking stressful holyshit #Im taking my cat baby to the vet Friday cuz shes lost a lot of weight #but also all of the cats have fleas so I need to get an oral prescription at the same time #and her appointment will be $300+ for tests #and my cousins nd her kids have been dropping by randomly #which is fine their really nice n sweet n bring snacks #its just fucking up my carefully constructed migraine routine #and ANDDD my migraine doctor doesn't even respond to my messages her shitty assistants do who don't communicate with each other!!!#dawg my migraine injections were 3 weeks late bc of them #and now my Botox approval hasn't gone through for a month and they were like oh that's so strange hmmmmmm lets just see what happens #and not try to fix it!#ugh sorry for the rant but that's their whole job #its the whole department: migraines #maybe deal with my insurance jackass!!#ugh my migraine pills were also never called in and when I asked them to be #they said I had never been prescribed them in the first place but it said in my after notes visit!!!!#dude #ok I might just have to switch doctors lmaooooo #time to hit up my primary I cry

#as i'm going through this refresher in tandem with reading weir's new novel...#she actually writes shelton as being the one that managed to get her mother's letters to her into her hands #even for fiction that feels...far fetched #ostensibly someone had to be getting her letters from chapuys as well; even chapuys reports at times #that he doesn't know how it's possible she's getting letters out to him #but i doubt it was either of the boleyn aunts here #nor margaret bryan; anne's maternal aunt #even the interpretation that anne was a nonentity by this point and had no clout; basically #would not bear this out; if they didn't fear anne then they certainly would've had reason to fear henry #and i doubt they would've circumvented what he ordered #until after jan 1536 (where shelton is allowing visitors from chapuys bcus she's been sent gifts) this just does not seem to be the case #melita thomas #(also had weir been more faithful to primary sources. then this interpretation would mean shelton threw this chamber woman under #the bus...which she did; but in her rendering it would be to save her OWN skin #rather than at great personal risk which is what she #portrays; for the construction a sympathetic character in lady shelton)#i also think there's a question of agency on this unnamed maid's part that i don't really ever seen given space...#insofar as the hierarchy of privilege etc #was she actually willing to risk her income to do this? that's generally how it's portrayed #but it's just as possible that she felt constrained to do so bcus mary; despite her demoted status; was obviously her superior #even if not her employer #not to mention after being dismissed for such a reason; it's not like she was going to get a reccomendation to another household #it's fair to talk about how both coa and mary were placed in these hostile environments but the hostility and tension #those placed as their servants (not those that had chosen to be there; like elizabeth darrell for coa)#is again...not given the same space; generally #it was probably very frustrating to serve two highly privileged women that refused to answer or look at or acknowledge them #because they were addressing them as the law required.#you can imagine the eye-rolls of the servants which coa called 'gaolers'. since. yk.#a person of a servant's status was likely to have a friend or relative that spent time in an *actual* jail cell. if not themselves .

#oc insp: imogen kol #oc insp: rejna shúl #back on my lightsaber bullshit again #but the survivor customization is too damn good #as soon as I settled on Imogen's primary hilt I knew I eventually had to design her padawan one and also Rejna's #Imogen's design is still a little elegant but I wanted it to be more reserved and almost simple #like when she constructed it she didn't try to make it unique or put much of her personality into it #in a lot of ways she wasn't happy with her lightsaber. but it was functional. got her through the war. she killed Rejna w it.#but that's all it was good for #the lightsaber she has now is very much a weapon she's attached to and works WITH instead of just uses as a tool.#Rejna's reflects her perfectly and while I mostly pick components based on appearance #Diligence/Persistence/Temperance.... are exactly the three words I'd chose to describe her

im not kidding when i say i could write a gender studies thesis on the way male leads in shoujo and josei manga are written. i spend a TON of time poking at what sort of gender structures are going on under the hood in any given romance story I'm reading

#narrates #this is a primary reason i read a lot of villainess isekai btw #the gender and heterosexuality assumptions that these stories make are RIDICULOUSLY alien to me (nb lesbian)#so they end up reading as a very unintentional window into how gender and heterosexual relations are constructed
