#connecting video games to the internet was a mistake

This is absolutely not a callout post on the user who said this, it’s a criticism of the state of the gaming industry, full stop. But somebody reblogged one of my The Evil Within posts a little while ago where I said I didn’t fully understand what had actually happened, and they put in the tags that I should play the dlc. And I was actually in the PS app looking at the dlc, trying to decide if I really wanted to spend the money, when I realized what the fuck I was doing
I am SO SICK of publishers releasing un-fucking-finished games and then hiding critical story elements behind fucking paywalls. I should not have to buy goddamn dlc to understand a game. Paid dlc shouldn’t even be a fucking thing if I’m being completely honest, but especially not shit like that. Ugh.
#she speaks#like fucking yakuza putting ng+ behind a goddamn paywall#and nobody fucking talking about it???#what the fuck?#also the evil within came out ten fucking years ago#that’s how pervasive this shit is#connecting video games to the internet was a mistake

•~* BETWEEN THE FLASHES *~• part 3
part 2
-chris sturniolo x female reader
-summery: ?
——————————————————————————
for months, chris and sof had mastered the art of hiding. their relationship was a delicate secret, something they cherished and protected from the eyes of the internet, but it wasn’t without its struggles.
at every party or event, they had a routine. sof would walk in first, mingling with friends, laughing at jokes, blending in seamlessly. then, fifteen minutes later, chris would follow—always separate, never too close. they’d exchange the briefest of glances from across the room, a silent connection only they understood. it was painful, sometimes. the way they had to pretend like they weren’t everything to each other.
dates were no easier. sneaking around, always choosing quiet places where no one would recognize them. no fancy restaurants, no downtown bars. instead, they found peace in late-night drives to nowhere, deserted parks where they could sit under the stars, or small coffee shops on the outskirts of town, the ones no one ever visited.
"wish we didn’t have to do this," sof whispered one night as they sat by the beach, waves crashing softly in the background. her fingers traced absent patterns in the sand.
"i know," chris replied, his arm wrapped tightly around her, pulling her closer as if holding her could erase the world outside. "but soon…"
their phones were another challenge entirely. no photos, no videos, nothing that could tie them to each other. even when chris wanted to post a goofy picture of sof laughing at something he said or when sof caught him in one of those rare moments of pure, unguarded joy, they knew better. sharing those moments meant risking exposure, and they weren’t ready for that. not yet.
on streams, it was even more of a dance. chris would be playing a game with his brothers, the usual banter going on, and suddenly, sof’s name would light up his phone screen. he’d glance down quickly, texting back in record time, before anyone could notice. but matt and nick noticed. they always noticed.
"dude, you’ve got that ‘i’m texting sof’ smile on," matt would tease, barely hiding a smirk.
chris would shrug it off, but he knew it was true. that glow, that warmth, he couldn’t help it. sof did that to him. but he had to be careful, make sure not to linger on his phone too long, make sure the camera didn’t catch the way his face lit up when her message came through.
nick, always the editor, would groan. "seriously, stop smiling at your phone. i can’t cut that out every time."
chris would laugh, but the truth was, every time sof texted, he couldn’t help but smile. it was instinct, the way his heart raced just a little faster with each message.
then, there were the small, intimate ways they stayed connected even when apart. sof wearing chris’s hoodie, its sleeves hanging past her hands, smelling faintly of him. chris wearing a bracelet she gave him, something simple but meaningful, a secret only they shared. and sometimes, on stream or in a video, they’d wear matching outfits—a subtle nod to each other, but one the fans never picked up on.
and then… it was over. the hiding, the secrecy—it was all about to end.
they sat in the living room, the four of them—chris, sof, matt, and nick—huddled around a laptop. the video was ready. their moment of truth. it was a simple clip: chris and sof laughing, kissing, no longer hiding. a soft, intimate reveal of what had been there all along.
sof’s hands trembled as she sat beside chris. "what if this was a mistake?" she asked, her voice barely a whisper, eyes filled with worry.
chris turned to her, his eyes soft, his hand gently squeezing hers. "we’re ready," he said, his voice low and calming. "i’m right here with you."
matt chimed in, always the voice of reassurance. "people are gonna love this, sof. you guys deserve to be happy, out in the open."
nick nodded from the computer, finger hovering over the ‘post’ button. "it’s time."
sof took a deep breath, her heart pounding in her chest. the past months of hiding, the sneaking around, the lies—it all came down to this moment. "okay," she said softly, looking up at chris. "let’s do it."
nick clicked the button. the video went live.
as the video went live, there was a moment of silence that seemed to stretch on forever. sof’s heart pounded in her chest, her breath caught somewhere between anticipation and fear. she sat next to chris on the couch, her hands gripping his tightly. she didn’t even realize how hard she was holding onto him until he gently squeezed back, reminding her he was there.
“it’s okay,” chris whispered, leaning in closer, his voice soft in her ear. “we’re doing this together.”
sof looked up at him, her eyes wide and full of vulnerability. “what if it’s too much? what if they—” she paused, her voice shaky. “what if they don’t understand?”
chris smiled, brushing a strand of hair behind her ear, his touch gentle, familiar. “then they don’t have to. all that matters is us. i don’t care what anyone says, as long as you’re with me.”
she nodded, but her nerves were still there, bubbling just under the surface. “i’ve been so scared of this moment, chris. i feel like i’ve been holding my breath for months.”
he pulled her closer, wrapping his arm around her shoulders, his thumb lightly tracing circles on her skin. “i know. me too. but it’s over now. we don’t have to hide anymore.” he kissed her forehead softly, lingering there for a moment, grounding her. “you’re mine, and i’m yours. and now… everyone knows.”
sof let out a shaky breath, leaning into his chest, her fingers fidgeting with the sleeve of his hoodie—his favorite one that she’d ‘borrowed’ so many times. “it feels unreal,” she murmured. “like we’ve been living in this bubble and now… it’s just out there for everyone to see.”
“hey,” chris lifted her chin gently, his eyes locking with hers, filled with nothing but warmth. “it’s real. you and me? we’ve been real since day one. and now, we can finally stop pretending we’re just friends when we’re out. i don’t have to sit on the other side of the room anymore just so people won’t suspect anything.” he laughed softly, remembering all the times they had to do just that.
sof smiled, a small laugh escaping her too. “and no more sneaking around on dates or making sure we’re not caught in the same place on our instagram stories.”
“exactly,” chris said, his tone playful, but there was something deeper in his voice. he cupped her face in his hands, his thumbs brushing over her cheeks. “we’ve been through so much just to keep this ours. but now… it’s time to let the world see how much you mean to me.”
sof’s heart melted at his words, her eyes filling with emotion. “you really mean that?”
“more than anything,” chris whispered, his forehead resting against hers now. “i love you, sof. so much. and i’m done hiding it. i want everyone to know that you’re the one who makes me happier every single day.”
she couldn’t hold back the tears anymore, but they weren’t from fear or nerves—they were from relief, from love. “i love you too,” she said, her voice barely above a whisper, her fingers clutching the front of his hoodie as if she couldn’t bear to let him go. “you have no idea how much.”
chris smiled, that soft, adoring smile he reserved only for her. “i think i have a pretty good idea,” he teased gently, pressing a soft kiss to her lips. it was sweet and lingering, filled with everything they’d kept hidden for so long.
when they pulled back, sof rested her head against his shoulder, curling up into him like she always did when they were alone, the rest of the world fading away. “i can’t believe it’s over,” she whispered, her voice small but full of relief. “no more secrets.”
chris held her close, his fingers playing with the ends of her hair, his voice soft and full of love. “no more secrets,” he repeated. “just us, finally.”
they stayed like that for a while, just holding each other, wrapped up in the comfort of being together without having to hide anymore. the world outside could say whatever it wanted—good, bad, indifferent. none of it mattered.
what mattered was this—chris and sof, together, no more sneaking around, no more hiding. just them, out in the open, free to love each other the way they always had but now with the whole world watching.
and in that moment, sof felt lighter than she had in months. because for the first time in a long time, they didn’t have to pretend.

idk there’s just something so like. refreshing??? in how cool doji danshi unapologetically embraces modernity and how it intersects with the characters’ lives/the way they make mistakes. hayate forgot to plug in his phone charger. shun’s bluetooth earbud fell out when he shook his head. mima and his colleagues play a fps zombie video game to promo it. souma tells igarashi to just use the maps app whenever he gets lost. it's not even just tech stuff, because igarashi makes up a series on the spot and gives it a "modern manga title". and the movie advertisement??? the fact that we see people were sharing everything related to it on twitter??? they were posting their mistakes and sharing what they found funny??? everyone is connected, online, plugged in, whatever you want to call it and nata kokone never treats it as a bad thing in cdd (and, no, this isn’t about them blindly devoting themselves to the age of the internet - net generation teacher was a whole commentary of itself on the dangers of social media and the harm it could potentially cause!). like. nata kokone really truly does feel like someone who grew up during the rapid technological shift and actually understands both sides - it’s good and useful and can make people happy and less alone, but they’re also aware of the darker shadows within it. they make absolutely brilliant use of it in storytelling and i’m SO in love with it
#does this make sense???? i hope this makes sense#like obviously other modern series use tech and texting and whatever#but there’s something really specific in the way kokone nata does it i think#also this is a sign to go read net generation teacher it’s fantastic#and nata kokone’s other works!!#cdd#cool doji danshi#picg#play it cool guys#net generation teacher#ichikura hayate#mima takayuki#futami shun#shiki souma#igarashi motoharu#nata kokone

And also, this was partially inspired by the song Rain Clouds by The Arcadian Wild.
Thank the Goddesses for blorbo thoughts. That writer's block was getting unbearable.
AO3 Link:
Calm and quiet air nestled in the room. They’d just gotten home after sparring with their sister, as some simple training — they’d felt the need to work on their talent as a knight, though retired and disabled as they were.
It escalated a little too far, though, and Father stepped in to prevent them from getting injured further by their own recklessness.
Strange, that he’d do that. Normally, he would allow them to get hurt, and learn from their mistakes. They could heal themself easily enough.
But, times have changed — they’re older, weaker. Not what they used to be. They no longer produced Soul at a pace steady enough to heal properly. They hurt when they moved. They’re old. They’re disabled. They’re tired. They’re not what they used to be.
“Sit, child. Let me remove your prosthetic,” Father spoke, his tone calm as usual, though with a new touch of… kindness? Tenderness? They couldn’t place an exact label on it. But to them, it felt like how a father should speak to his child.
When did he begin treating me like his kin, and not simply a tool?
When did he begin caring?
Holly sat on the couch in their modest Dirtmouth home. Their knees were weak from straining during the spar. It felt nice to sit down and rest.
They shouldered their cloak out of the way, letting it drape over the back of the couch, and removed their top, allowing Father to properly detach their complex prosthetic arm. This process always hurt, but they were used to it by now.
The pain, at least, was bearable. On the other hand, they certainly did not enjoy nor care for the feeling of having things placed or removed from inside their body, and that is exactly what had to happen in order for the arm to be connected or removed.
Holly sought comfort in another physical interaction. They angled their head to call for Hornet, standing in the kitchen.
“Little Hornet? Could you bring Somber for me?” they requested, mock voice rasping and tired. Their Void was acting up, as it did not like being anywhere near Father, and they struggled to use it for their speech.
“Yeah, sure,” she called back, setting down whatever she was holding with a glassy clink.
“Thank you.”
Holly could hear her claws tapping on the floor as she walked to the bedroom. A few moments later, she returned with the squeaking infant in her arms, and gently handed them to their parent, then returned to the kitchen. The child’s squeaks quieted when they felt the presence of their mother, and they grasped at Holly’s chest with small, clawless hands.
“Yes, hello, little one,” they spoke, voice barely above a whisper, rubbing the back of Somber’s head with their thumb. They squeaked quietly in response, purring against their chest, snuggling into their swaddle. Holly purred as well, glad to be with their child once more.
Of course, it hadn’t been that long since they held them, but still. Too much time away from this fragile little thing, and they’d panic.
I suppose this is the life of a new parent, though. Especially one that struggles to understand that they’re even alive.
“I could make you a baby carrier, if you need one,” Father said, still working with the pale prosthetic.
“I’ll take you up on that offer. Thank you in advance, Father,” they returned, flinching when he removed one of the connecting wires from within their torso. “Heavens above, that still feels so strange…”
“I know, Holly. Just a few more, then you’ll be good to rest. Should only take about a minute.”
…
Such a kind response gets them thinking again.
…When did he become so… gentle? they wonder. Has he been like this my whole life? Or did he just start now?
…
When did he decide he wanted to be my father?
They flinch again as he removes another wire. He is still kind with how he handles them. He’s aware that their scars are sensitive, and he’s aware of how the wires cause them discomfort when being put in or taken out.
Why is he so kind now? Why does he no longer hurt me?
Does he fear it? Fear that he might hurt me again?
Is he afraid of hurting me?
They decide to ask.
“...Father?” “Yes?”
“...Why are you so gentle all of a sudden?”
The old King pauses, stilling his hands, processing their question. He looks towards their face. They do not look back at him.
“What do you mean?” he questions, not fully understanding.
“When I was younger, if I had this same prosthetic, you would’ve removed the wires as fast as possible and not cared if I flinched, if I showed signs of pain or discomfort. Why is it that now, you take care to not injure me?” They look down at their child, sleeping peacefully in their hold. The Wyrm blinks.
“...I certainly would not do that to you, even if it were with a younger you,” he answers, keeping his gaze directed at their head. “Not then, and especially not now. You’re older, and I know that even at a slow pace, placing and removing the wires still hurts. Those scars certainly don’t help in the matter.” Momentarily, he looks back down to their prosthetic arm, and the connections sunken into their body. Holly’s scars are still only partially healed, and that makes them very sensitive to physical stimuli. The Wyrm does not wish to inflict any more pain on the child he’d already hurt so much. It really seemed to him that they’d been through every terrible thing in the world, and none of the good.
He looks back up at their face, still turned away from his own. “You deserve better. I’ve already hurt you enough in the past. I promise you, I will never do such things again. You have my word, child.”
Finally, they look down towards their father, their one remaining eye expressing confusion, shock, and… relief. Their father’s expression tells them that he means it. They look away again, returning their gaze to their sleeping child.
Had they had the facial mechanisms to smile, they would have.
“Thank you. I really needed to hear that.”
“Of course, my child.”
They don’t speak another word to each other until the King finishes removing Holly’s prosthetic. They sigh and roll their shoulder, forming a tendril to reach up and massage where they were sore. “Thank you again, Father,” they say, voice quiet and gentle so as not to disturb the infant sleeping in their hold. The King nods.
“No problem. Anything else you need?” he asks, standing from the couch and stretching his arms, one pair reaching above his head and the other behind his back.
Holly moves, twisting their form to lay down on the cushions. “Could you put on a record for me?” they request, yawning at the end of their sentence. “The one with the sailing ship and waves, please.”
The Wyrm hums in affirmation, and walks over to the little desk holding the record player and steadily growing collection of vinyls. He kneels down to the shelf beneath the tabletop, shuffling through the various records in search of the one the tired Vessel had requested. Lifting it carefully and removing the disc from its casing, he places it atop the player and turns it on. Soft acoustic begins to emit from the speaker, and Holly settles into a comfortable position, wrapping themself in their cloak, using it as a blanket.
“Oh, one more thing, Father,” they say, looking at him with a tired eye.
“Hm?” “...Could I have a hug?”
He seems surprised by the request. They genuinely wish for my affection?
“Oh, goodness, of course!” he responds, walking over to their spot on the sofa, reaching down to wrap his arms around them. They gladly accept the gesture, and they begin to purr, moving their head to rest their jaw atop his shoulder, simulating a return as best they can, still using their only arm to hold Somber.
And they’re purring. They’re being held by their father, and they’re purring. They’re content in his hold.
The thought that they’re finally getting comfortable with his presence brings tears to his eyes, which he blinks back harshly, nuzzling his face into one of Holly’s horns.
The last time they requested his affection was when Quirrel passed. They were sobbing then. They were still afraid of him. Afraid that he might hurt them. That he might kill them, as they so believed he would decades ago. Now, though, they know he won’t do such things. They know that, for the most part, they’re safe.
He knows that they’re still instinctively wary of him, and that they will be for a long time, but at least they can take comfort in his touch now, instead of fearing for their very life whenever he so much as got close.
He’s glad that Holly no longer cries themself to sleep every night. They don’t need to be afraid anymore. They’re finally safe.
Hesitantly, he releases them from his grasp, standing up once again. “You get some rest, now, okay? You need it after that session,” he says, running his hand through their hair before turning away. “If you’d like, I could make you some tea.”
“Please do,” they respond, wrapping their cloak tighter around themself and their hatchling.
They’re glad that they’re safe again. They missed being at peace.

How would you rank your vids based on how much you like them?
Ah yes!! I can answer this one
The Many Adaptations of Berserk: I feel like it has to be this one as my fav. There’s parts of the video I wish I could redo (mainly the audio), but to put out such labor of love and have it receive such a positive response back, it’s so fulfilling. From people telling me it got them into Berserk to survivors messaging me to tell me how much the video meant to them. It’s a sense of pride and accomplishment that I never thought I’d ever feel with my art.
Spider-Man Musical: This, for me, feels like the prime example of what I want my channel to be: exploring relatively obscure things in a way that shows how strange they are while also taking it seriously and really examining them. As someone who has been fascinated with this musical for over a decade, finally finding a way to make an essay about it and letting people know about things like the spider fucking and the shoe song.
Dollar Store Game Show: I wish I could redo the audio here. God I wish I could redo the audio here. That being said, I’ve always seen this as the hidden gem of my channel, and whenever I talk to other creators, chances are this is the video of mine they bring up. The Facebook conspiracy “In Motion” part might be my favorite editing gag I’ve ever done
Demo Reel: I would’ve ranked this much lower if I hadn’t rewatched it a few weeks ago for the new Demo Reel vid. Despite some first time video mistakes that I would happily fix if I could, I think the script here is really solid and could have been way worse. I get why people like this one so much. I probably would’ve been really into this video if I wasn’t the one who made it. I still can’t believe I actually got away with the Evangelion intro gag.
Kitchen Nightmares: I started outlining this video back in my college days. I rewatched it about a month ago and my main note is that it feels like a video anyone could’ve made on Kitchen Nightmares, for better or for worse, and lacks a lot of the… personal energy I like to include in these things? But I still think it’s pretty solid. I also meant to include an entire segment on Nathan For You and just… forgot to lmao oops
The Return of Demo Reel: This one is still so new that I haven’t fully processed my feelings on it. This is probably the meanest video I’ve done so far lol I wasn’t sure how much the two halves would connect together, especially since it’s the only video I’ve done so far that isn’t broken up into segments but is rather scripted as one long thing. The stinger is my second favorite stinger I’ve ever done for the channel. I’m so glad that landed for people as I almost cut it entirely lol
The Cinemassacre Backlash: It feels weird to rank this one so low. I still am proud of the result, but I also think it has the same issue as Kitchen Nightmares where it’s like oh, anyone could’ve made that. I did like getting to interject my perspective into the discourse as someone who co-writes and makes online content and I have gotten a lot of praise for this one by my peers which has been nice. Having it blow up so much was wild and has definitely been a career benefit, even if I’m unsure if I’ll ever do a video like this again
Harley and Ivy: I don’t know why but I can’t help but feel like I could’ve made this one better. I’m not sure how, but it just feels like it exists to me. I actually didn’t even remember that I did the whole thing with the Be Gay, Do Crime scale until I saw it referenced on my TV Tropes page
Lost Film About Internet Memes: This one is fine but it sits in a lower place in my head for a lot of reasons. First being that a lot of personal life stuff surrounding the release and aftermath of the video. Second being my hatred of the original thumbnail and the belief that it tanked that video in a way it’s only now recovering from, which affected future business dealings and negotiations and algorithm stuff. Then the fact that this is the only time I’ve regretted going soft in one of my videos. I originally put more stuff in the script about how I believed the guy who made it was a grifter who seems to do a lot of scams but I changed it to make it more subtext and less of a personal attack and then in the aftermath of the vid it turns out, oops, this guy had a history of screwing people over and grifting and jumped into cryptocurrency because of course he did. I don’t think I’d ever revisit this subject, but if I had a time machine, I would’ve had way more testimonials in the vid from former PopMalt people.
Existential Horror Of Making Content About Content: The nicest thing I can say about this one is that it was the first time I ever made a thumbnail myself and I’m actually pleased with how it turned out, all things considered. Otherwise I can’t see myself ever watching this again
I hope it doesn’t sound like I’m too harsh on my own work lol I just have a unique relationship to it, I think. I’m generally proud of my videos, even if I do have issues with them as their creator.

Fears. there are many. you won't believe how many. Act 2 introduces to the ensemble of villains, though whether it truly introduces us to all of them is something you'll just have to wait and see. .........no, the answer is no, it introduces us to less than half of them. rapture's a big story, you know that by now. there's a lot of villains, they're not all Fears.
they won't all receive Art, though yes that would have been cool. some of them are like the Ruin (rapture's take on The Cold Boy), who didn't have much of a role in the original story but is at least getting a second try now. and some of them are like the Ecclesiarchway (y'know, the Archangel), who had a big role but only got, like, the one piece of rapture art. that art went to the July 8th log, if you'll recall.
Fears are cool, though. if you're reading this and you have no idea what I'm talking about, because the Fear Mythos is not actually the widespread corner of pop culture I think it is, then explaining them isn't gonna be hard. you know the slender man. I did a whole ramble about him as an example of Internet Fiction on June 23rd. he was a collective writing project. some people made Images about him, some people wrote stories (Blogs) about him, some people made videos (Vlogs) about him. well, in 2011 some other people wanted to do that but with more monsters. the blog format was good enough to warrant some more damn subject matter. and those "more monsters" were the Fears. there were too many Fears to list here. in Rapture I tried to incorporate all of them, up to a point. eventually I did stop incorporating the new ones, though in the Final Draft I threw in more references.... dammit it doesn't matter. the point is horror monsters. Rapture is fundamentally informed by an awareness of blog fiction, which usually is in the genre of lite cosmic horror. there, now you know what the Fears are. and EAT was a Fear I made. good, we're on the same page.
and clearly, if we lived in a world where all the cryptids were real and talked to each other, and then the sky turned red and all hell broke loose, then we would expect to see days like today, where the Fears just leap on whole crowds of people and try to cause some carnage.
you gotta understand. the Fears are from a genre that is entirely horror, all the way through. and I am not someone who holds horror as sacred. so in Rapture I wanted the Fears to be vulnerable, emotional, petty panicking people. I wanted the Fears to get talked back to, and for them to just have to take that. I wanted the Fears to make mistakes, funny mistakes, and compelling mistakes. I wanted a story that could go beyond found-footage lite-cosmic-horror. hell, I wanted to show, or remind, Internet Horror writers that there are in fact ways to write something scary that require not sticking to any one genre.
what kind of scary is Giygas? can we honestly call Earthbound a horror story? no, dammit. Earthbound is 100% not horror. it's closest in genre to a road novel, actually. its focus is the vibes of a world that you choose to find connection in. if you allow yourself to get compelled, then it will take you on a rollercoaster that no video game had heretofore prepared you for. the comedy comes from specific places, and your worry for the well-being of characters comes from specific places too. the horror almost seems camp for most of the experience. it's only after Stonehenge that the game stops holding up a smile for long enough that you start to reconsider what to expect from the final area. (and if you have never seen the last stretch of Earthbound before somehow, then. check it out. find a way to sit with it, take in the vibes, the soundtrack. and then get your teeth kicked in, emotionally, by that final boss.) Earthbound is the kind of thing I think about when I consider the forms of horror that The Horror Genre manages to lack (by virtue of insisting on being a genre). Earthbound changes genre, and it does so after letting you get engaged for a good 30 hours. it's not really about the exact length of time, or the proportions of the story. this isn't a bunch of ingredients in a pot that stir the right way to make the perfect story. it's entirely about expectation, and the more complicated forms of expectation that come from being committed to a story over a long period of time. making art is like being a magician.
and so, on this subject, I also think of Mother 3. in fact I tend to think of Mother 3 far more often than I ever think about Earthbound. Mother 3 is.. more of a horror story, but it still doesn't feel like one, because it still isn't one. Mother 3 is a family drama. it does have a section that goes for a road novel, and it has another section that goes for.... I mean, god, what would you call chapter 7, it's a change in video game narrative genre and that's hard to translate into a more broad talk. "adventure." sure. the scope of the narrative opens up into a broad and serious adventure. but then the scope gradually closes back up afterward, and the story ends on a pure family drama, and it does so famously. Mother 3 is a game of fucking tears, hard tears. it's literally impossible to play the game and not cry like a baby. no one has done it. there's still a lot of fear in all this. but I think "fear" is a good word here. there isn't any horror in these games, but there is fear. fear can fit into narratives that horror can't. and I am much more interested, myself, in fear than in horror.
so it's not an accident that I'm the one who named us "the Fear Mythos." once people were calling the monsters "Fears," I latched onto that word and thought it was enough. I still think it's enough. when I'm rewriting Rapture, when I'm working on Rapture, I'm doing so with pride in this being a Fear story, and I'm doing so with the commitment to make this story worthy of what that word means to me.
fear, not necessarily horror.
though Rapture also is not a Mother game. Rapture does have horror in it. it usually doesn't happen to Jordan himself, but he is the witness of a lot of horror, a lot of fates worse than death, and a lot of intense heartbreaking drama. just, what I'm saying to you here is Rapture has one foot in horror by necessity, and then its other foot is in my childhood. the things I grew up with. and the things that happened to me as I grew up, the worries I developed, the fears that my brain had to process into mere aversions and.. drama. Rapture is my drama. that's its genre. it is not committed to being a comedy, nor a horror, though it has fun playing with both. it is committed to being a drama.
I definitely got off track with this ramble, but I decided instead to talk about other general subjects that a compelled reader would need to pick up on. today's log has the Ruin do something notable that was not in any previous draft. it brings on a vision for Jordan, the contents of which are alarming, raise some questions. another genre has been introduced now. this one is the riskiest. you'll have to wait and see what I'm choosing to do with it. (and I will too.)
I'm gonna leave you with a link to some music. here's a youtube playlist. it's called "rapturework." it's what I listened to while I wrote Act 2. I actually made a point not to include prog, and not to include any songs longer than a few minutes (though there's still a prog song in there, and one or two songs in the 15-minute range, but none of them are what you'd expect). this playlist may clarify some vibes and influences. and plus you may just be curious about what I consider to be "music to write to."
alright. I said some words.
see you tomorrow.
#ogtrib bonus#yeah definitely rambled. forgot to even wrap up the mother 3 section.#something about how mother 3 is a consciously Written piece of media. its structure and genres are to be studied. i did.#mother 3 was made by a storyteller acting as a magician.#storytelling is being a magician.

Hello (this is going to be a bit longer)
You wrote that you're not feeling that well and are in need of a (Assassin's Creed related) distraction. Maybe this little "story" will help with that! (English is not my first language, sorry if there are mistakes)
So I'm a kind of an akward/quiet person. Like, I don't really talk to people, not because I don't want to talk to them but because I just never know what to say. I'm the kind of person to be surrounded by people, my friends even, but never really say a word. (I'm still involved in stuff, so I'm definitely happy with that arrangement, lol).
All in all, that's not really a problem for me, because, like I said, I like to simply be there and listen when my friends talk.
However it still would be nice to talk with someone about what I like, I guess. I never really talked with anybody about Assassin's Creed or other video games I like to play. They know I play it, but other than that, there's really nothing to it. And that's fine with me - I don't like/am not that interested in everything they do either.
But lately that changed! I met this girl nearly over two years ago, but we've never really had a conversation; at least not a real one. We both didn't have a clue what to say to each other I guess, we were both quiet people surrounded by loud extroverted ones, so we just never really had a chance to really get to know each other.
But somehow one thing led to another and now I actually have someone in real life to talk to about Assassin's Creed (etc.)! We even played Unity together and she already ordered another game of mine, that I absolutely love, so we could play that together as well.
On my birthday she even gave me an Assassin's Creed Syndicate puzzle! Normally I don't like puzzles, but I was still so happy - it was a nice gesture.
It's nice to talk to someone about Assassin's Creed or sent funny pics about it or sent videos of me playing, and get something back. I know I could easily do it on the internet as well, but still, real life connections hit different I guess. I got her to play the Ezio Triology and she got me to play Origins (or at least, to begin playing it). It's nice to exchange and talk about our opinions. (And fanfictions lol)
Sooo yeah, I hope this short "story" could distract you a little from your worries. :D
It's amazing to see that video games can connect people world wide. ^-^
!!! That’s incredibly sweet!! Thank you for sharing this story with me, I’m sorry I don’t have much to add or say but I’m really happy you got this experience. I’ve made some of my own best friends through this game— it was a really nice story, thank you <:)
Also the syndicate puzzle sounds so fun!! I love puzzles that’s just a little bonus for me

Shared Universe Blunders 5: Abstraction Interaction
Shadowrun is a cyberpunk game set in the near-future twenty-seventies, featuring mages and dragons along with the hackers and guns. It has rules for hacking into people's computers. This is easiest if you are physically at the target computer. Remote hacking attempts over a network may be penalized by a trait called Noise.
Noise is local to an area and its current circumstances. The Noise value is subtracted from the hacker's dicepool. Areas may have a Noise trait for many different reasons: If you're at a packed stadium concert and your connection is lagging because everyone nearby is streaming future smartphone video on the same overloaded grid, that's Noise. If you're in the middle of nowhere and it's hard to get a signal, that's Noise. If you're in the basement of an arcology and your wireless keeps bouncing off pipes and plating, that's Noise. If an enemy has placed a signal jammer, that's also Noise.
So far, so good. Simple abstraction for player convenience, the GM assigns a Noise rating to the location, the hacker takes that much penalty. The book contains a list of example Noise values, and a couple of specific items for countering Noise, like a satellite uplink for use in remote areas.
Then one of the splatbooks (Street Grimoire, 5th edition) has a magic spell called "Decrease Noise" which does exactly what it says. Your connection magically gets better, and I mean magically in a derogatory sense. The spell does not describe how it causes this effect, nor is it limited in what sources of Noise it can affect. It simply decreases the Noise number in the nearby area.
This is bad.
Most of the rest of the game mechanics interact with the game world in some way that is represented by an abstraction. Decrease Noise interacts directly with the abstraction. This makes it hard to reason about. How does it work? Does it interact with other mechanics? Are bystanders likely to notice? Unknown!
Games that are generally abstract can work fine, but having one or a few elements much more abstract than the rest makes those stand out as bizarre out-of-character elements. The rulebook pokes into the world.
Pick an abstraction level and stick to it.
(Similar criticism also applies to that one subsystem which is far more gritty and detailed than the rest of a game.)
In Shadowrun's case, this spell feels extra dumb because it violates niche protection. The fluff says that magic is tied to living things, particularly living minds, and the "gaiasphere" of the planet. The mechanics back this up in several ways: getting cyberlimbs installed reduces one's magical potential, magic doesn't work in outer space, mana-based illusions do not show up on cameras, and many spells can be resisted with "Object Resistance", a trait that scales with the complexity and processing of an object: 3 dice for carved wood, 9 dice for a camera, 15 dice for a car. This encourages characters to pick a niche and stick to it: magic or machine?
The existence of a spell that magically improves the internet connections of everyone nearby is mages treading into hacker territory, threatening to obsolete a bunch of hacker gear. D&D had a severe problem with this back in the day, leading to the joke of "the wizard casts Solve Problem".
It seems to me that this is probably linked to the abstraction mistake: instead of considering what sort of things magic does in the world, the developer wrote a spell to do something in the rulebook.

My Yearend Techs & Misc. Items Summary - 2022
Hello! So, 2022 is about to end in a few hours. A few positive moments 🙂⬆️, but some are negative moments in the past 😞⬇️, with my most heart breaking moment was my old hard drive will soon vanish because I can't work it right, and I'm unable to save my precious files. 😭 But, don't worry, I'll be strong when it hits 2023. 💪 As some would say, "Where there's a will, there's a way". 🥲 And, since I can't retrieve my old template, I decided to create my own template from scratch instead of fetching a traceable template from the internet image search. Which is good for me.
Anyway, enough for that, let’s talk about my ‘My Yearend Techs and Misc. Items Summary 2022’! And here are my choices per month so far, both ongoing & done topics:
• JAN - Redragon Rudra (K565R) Full Size Mechanical Keyboard (done): So far, I'm having fun typing & playing with my 1st ever owned mechanical keyboard from the 2021 Christmas gift. However, one con that I've found from experiencing mech keyboard was wearing off the tactical keystrokes after longevity used. I'm still curious to see if this mech keyboard from Redragon is swappable/removable key switches; though it didn't advertise or include this feature. Regardless, it is still worth it to use my daily computer activities.
• FEB - 8bitdo Pro 2 Controller (ongoing): Arguably the most worthy controller in my review, the 8Bitdo's Pro 2 controller is my current go-to 3rd-party controller on multiple gaming devices (Android, iOS, Steam, Switch, and PC/Laptop). Though to be fair, the SN30 Pro+ had a special place in my heart, so much so that I want to buy another one. But, I digress. The Pro 2 controller improves the predecessor by adding back paddle buttons, a profile switch, toggling four platform devices, and connecting the 8bitdo ultimate software app on Android/ Apple iOS on the go without bringing a bulky laptop.
• MAR - Oria 120 in 1 Screwdriver Set (done): As a tech-savvy enthusiast, I decided to buy my own Screwdriver Set, in case that I want something to fix on my daily used devices, namely "Smartphones". Because it's very common now, to this day.
• APR - Fixing my PC - Volume II Story: A sequel to my last year's story, I made another huge mistake after I disassembled & cleaning the entire parts of the PC desktop harmlessly until it went down south. So, my mom provided me to buy a new motherboard & CPU to keep my computer alive. I'm still concerned about my 160 GB HD (that contains my important & precious files), therefore, my puzzle is incomplete, to this day.
• MAY - Adata HD330 External Hard Drive - 2 TB (done): On the bright side, I bought my own brand new 2 TB external hard drive from the folks of Adata. And while I'm filling out some files by drawing digital artwork or recording videos, I always stored my NEW precious files onto my portable memory drive.
• JUN - N-Power LED RGBW Bulb w/ Remote (done): A single-color light bulb is boring to some. But, a light bulb that contains different colors using a remote on our fingertips is far better & entertaining. And I can't do without N-Power. Plus, it's way cheaper than other brands.
• JUL - Unbranded USB AA Rechargeable Batteries (done): This unique cell battery doesn't require a battery cell charger, instead, it uses a USB type A to charge using either from the computer, a power bank or a USB wall charger (or any similar devices that involves USB type A). A fully charged AA battery estimates up to 6 to 7 hours, not 2.5 to 3 hours. Yeah, that's a downside, but you won't regret owning it.
• AUG - Phone Tripod Mouth Adapter (done): I want something that rotates my mouthed smartphone without adjusting from my tripod, and thankfully my wish was granted. To this day, I'm still using it for my recording & snapshot purposes using my current smartphone (Honor 8C).
• SEPT - Keweisi (or KOWSI) USB Multifunctional Tester (done): Honesty, I'm tired of manual time using my phone & opening a stopwatch as my timer. I just can't tell what's the real estimated time during my charging test. Well, not to worry! Because the USB Multifunctional Tester from Keweisi (or KOWSI?) should do the job. The only thing I need to do is to keep an eye on a specific time when charging any device is full.
• OCT - QKZ AK6 Pro IEM Earphones (done): My ZNT R620 earphone [CLICK ME!] might be an ‘A-Okay’ status & using it as my primary earphone. But, all that changed when I switched to QKZ's AK6 Pro as my first ever owned IEM earphone! It's the cheapest IEM earphone (on the market) with the ability to remove IEM cables, and I'm still embracing it. I just love these IEM earphones so much, that I need someone to compete against other brands.
• NOV - Rechargeable Light Tube (done): By far, the most likable & unique item I ever owned, this fluorescent light look-a-like has three available sizes; depending on their amount of watts. And right here is the 40 Watts. Perfect for outside activities, travel, and even camping.
Here is my honorable mention:
• FEB - ZNT R620 Earphones (done): As I said, it's A-Okay. However, their loudness sound didn't match, particularly the right channel. It's a good thing I'm done using it because I've already got the aforementioned QKZ AK6 Pro IEM Earphones.
Alright, back to my topic pick & this is my last!↓
• DEC - Sonicgear Quatro 2 USB Speakers (done): And finally, my last item review is the Sonicgear Quatro 2 USB Speakers. Their design & sound quality are decently average, in my opinion, but their four bass drives could use a little tweak to make it better, or maybe swap it out from other brands & make a custom for your music taste.
Well, that’s the end of my “My Yearend Techs and Misc. Items 2022”. We’ll see you in 2023.
🥳 Happy new years eve to all, and as always, stay safe!😷
If you want to see my 2020 & 2021 version of that, then I'll provide some links down below.↓

Mistakes Artists Make While Live Streaming (And How to Avoid Them)
Live streaming has become an essential tool for artists to connect with audiences, showcase their talent, and grow their personal brands. However, navigating the world of live streaming can be challenging, especially for beginners. Many artists unknowingly make avoidable mistakes that hinder the success of their streams. This live streaming guide for artists highlights the most common pitfalls and provides actionable solutions to help you deliver engaging, professional-quality streams. With platforms like Deliver My Tune, artists can explore even more tips to enhance their live streaming game.
1. Poor Internet Connection
A reliable internet connection is the backbone of any successful live stream. Many artists overlook this fundamental aspect, leading to buffering, interruptions, or even complete disconnections.
Solution:
Use a wired connection whenever possible for stability.
Check your internet speed before going live (aim for an upload speed of at least 5 Mbps for HD quality).
2. Lack of Preparation
Winging it might work occasionally, but without proper planning, your live stream can appear disorganized or unprofessional.
Solution:
Prepare a content outline, including key points you want to cover.
Test your equipment and rehearse if possible.
3. Ignoring Audience Interaction
Live streaming is a two-way street. Many artists focus solely on performing or talking, neglecting to engage with their audience.
Solution:
Regularly check and respond to live comments.
Use interactive features like polls or shoutouts to foster connection.
4. Overcomplicating Your Setup
While having a high-tech setup can elevate your stream, overcomplicating things can cause unnecessary stress and technical issues.
Solution:
Start with a simple setup (webcam, microphone, good lighting) and upgrade as you gain experience.
5. Forgetting to Promote Your Stream
Even the best live stream won’t succeed without an audience. Many artists assume viewers will automatically show up, but that’s rarely the case.
Solution:
Promote your stream on social media channels like Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook.
Use countdowns and teaser posts to build anticipation.
6. Not Considering Time Zones
Scheduling your live stream without accounting for your audience’s location can significantly affect attendance.
Solution:
Analyze your audience demographics and plan streams for peak activity hours.
7. Low-Quality Audio and Video
Bad audio or video quality can ruin the viewing experience, no matter how great your content is.
Solution:
Invest in a decent microphone and webcam.
Use proper lighting and ensure your background is tidy and on-brand.
8. Technical Glitches During Live Streams
Technical issues can occur unexpectedly, but how you handle them matters most.
Solution:
Have backup options ready, such as a second device for streaming.
Inform your audience calmly if issues arise, and troubleshoot in real-time.
9. Neglecting Post-Stream Activities
The work doesn’t end when the stream does. Many artists forget to engage with their audience afterward, missing out on opportunities to build loyalty.
Solution:
Thank your viewers and post a replay of your stream.
Respond to unanswered questions and comments.
10. Not Setting Clear Goals
Streaming without clear goals can lead to inconsistent efforts and lackluster results.
Solution:
Define your objectives (e.g., building followers, showcasing a new project, monetization).
Measure success using analytics available on streaming platforms.
Conclusion
Avoiding these common mistakes is a game-changer for artists looking to make the most of live streaming. By addressing issues like internet stability, preparation, and audience engagement, you can create streams that captivate viewers and enhance your brand. This live streaming guide for artists serves as a starting point to refine your approach and achieve success in the digital space. Listen to the feedback and try to overcome the mistakes you are making. Negative comments may hurt you sometimes but accept them and try to overcome them.

A well-organized study plan helps you allocate time effectively and track your progress. How to Implement: Start by assessing your current level and identifying areas for improvement. Break down your preparation into manageable chunks, such as focusing on one section of the test per week. Set specific goals for each session, such as completing a practice test, mastering a particular grammar rule, or improving vocabulary. Use a study calendar or planner to keep track of your progress and adjust your plan as needed.
Practice with Realistic Mock Tests Tip: Practicing with realistic mock tests is crucial for familiarizing yourself with the test format and timing constraints. It helps you build confidence and identify areas where you need to improve. How to Implement: Use online platforms that offer full-length practice tests under timed conditions. Simulate the test environment as closely as possible to get an accurate sense of how you’ll perform on the actual test day. After completing each mock test, review your answers carefully to understand your mistakes and improve your strategies.
Engage in Interactive Practice Tip: Interactive practice can enhance your language skills more effectively than passive study methods. Engaging with the language actively helps improve your listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills. How to Implement: Join online forums, language exchange platforms, or discussion groups where you can practice speaking and writing with other learners or native speakers. Websites like iTalki or Tandem connect you with language partners for conversation practice. Participate in online writing communities where you can get feedback on your essays and improve your writing skills.
Utilize Multimedia Resources Tip: Incorporating multimedia resources into your study routine can make learning more engaging and effective. Listening to various accents and practicing different skills helps build a well-rounded proficiency. How to Implement: Use online resources such as podcasts, YouTube channels, and educational videos that focus on IELTS preparation. For example, BBC Learning English and TED Talks offer valuable listening practice. Additionally, explore apps and games designed for language learning to enhance vocabulary and grammar in a fun way.
Focus on Your Weak Areas Tip: Identifying and addressing your weak areas is crucial for improving your overall IELTS score. Tailoring your practice to focus on these areas can lead to significant progress. How to Implement: After completing practice tests or exercises, analyze your performance to pinpoint areas where you struggle. Use online diagnostic tools and practice exercises specifically designed to target these weaknesses. For example, if you struggle with reading comprehension, focus on practice passages and strategies for skimming and scanning.
Seek Feedback and Guidance Tip: Receiving feedback from experienced educators or peers can provide valuable insights and help you improve more quickly. Constructive criticism allows you to understand your mistakes and learn how to correct them. How to Implement: Enroll in an online IELTS preparation course that offers personalized feedback and guidance. Many platforms provide access to instructors who can review your practice tests and essays. Alternatively, join online study groups where you can exchange feedback and tips with fellow learners.
Stay Motivated and Consistent Tip: Maintaining motivation and consistency is key to successful IELTS preparation. Regular study and practice are essential for achieving your desired score. How to Implement: Set clear, achievable goals and reward yourself for reaching milestones. Use motivational tools such as progress trackers or study apps that keep you engaged and accountable. Create a study routine that fits your lifestyle and stick to it, ensuring you make steady progress towards your goal.
Conclusion Online IELTS preparation offers a flexible and effective way to enhance your English language skills. By choosing the right resources, creating a structured study plan, and engaging in interactive and multimedia practices, you can maximize your chances of success. Remember to focus on your weak areas, seek feedback, and stay motivated throughout your preparation journey. With dedication and the right strategies, you’ll be well on your way to achieving a high IELTS score.

Online CPR classes provide a flexible, convenient, and effective solution for busy individuals who want to refresh their life-saving skills. With the increasing demand for virtual learning options, online CPR classes offer a convenient way to acquire or renew this crucial skill.
Whether you're a healthcare professional, a teacher, a parent, or simply a concerned citizen, having the ability to perform CPR can make a significant difference in an emergency. Read on to explore the five key features that make online CPR classes a valuable and accessible option for individuals seeking to enhance their life-saving abilities.
Interactive and engaging learning modules
Enrolling in a CPR class online gives you access to multiple learning modules. Some of them are mentioned below:
a. Dynamic video demonstrations
Online CPR classes use high-quality video demonstrations. These videos show you exactly how to perform CPR, including chest compressions, rescue breaths, and the use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED). Here’s what makes them effective:
Clear instructions: Videos provide step-by-step guidance, ensuring you understand each part of the process in your CPR class.
Realistic scenarios: They often depict real-life situations, helping you visualize how to apply the techniques in emergencies.
Rewatchable content: You can pause, rewind, and rewatch the videos as many times as you need to grasp the concepts thoroughly.
b. Interactive simulations
In addition to video demonstrations, an online CPR class often includes interactive simulations. These simulations allow you to practice decision-making in a controlled, virtual environment. Here’s how they enhance learning:
Hands-on practice: Interactive elements simulate real-life CPR scenarios where you must make quick decisions.
Immediate feedback: Provide instant feedback on your actions, helping you learn from mistakes and improve your skills.
Engaging content: The interactive content keeps you engaged and makes learning more enjoyable.
Self-paced learning for busy schedules
Self-paced learning is a game-changer for busy schedules, and CPR online classes exemplify this perfectly. Let’s understand how:
Flexible study schedule
One of the most significant advantages of online CPR classes is their flexibility. Unlike traditional courses that require you to be at a specific place at a particular time, online courses let you study when and where it’s most convenient for you. Here’s why this is beneficial:
Anytime access: You can log in to your course from anywhere with an internet connection, whether at home, during a break at work, or while traveling.
Pace yourself: Learn quickly, focus on challenging sections, and recollect the knowledge you already have.
3. Up-to-date content
Online CPR classes offer up-to-date content, ensuring you learn the latest techniques and guidelines. Here is how it benefits with staying updated:
a. Current best practices
Online CPR class content undergoes regular updates to reflect the latest guidelines. It ensures that you’re learning the most effective and current techniques. Here’s what to expect:
Revised guidelines: Courses are designed to incorporate the latest CPR guidelines, so you’re trained according to the most recent standards.
Broad coverage: You’ll learn about all aspects of CPR, including how to perform it on adults, children, and infants and respond to choking emergencies.
Specialized techniques: Content often includes specific techniques for different scenarios, such as performing CPR on a pregnant woman or someone with a pacemaker.
4. Comprehensive approach
CPR courses provide a comprehensive approach to making online learning more convenient. Here is how:
Easy-to-understand material
The material in an online CPR class is presented straightforwardly and quickly. This makes it accessible even for those who might not have a medical background. Here’s how it’s done:
Clear language: The course content avoids complex jargon and uses simple language to explain the concepts.
Visual aids: Diagrams, charts, and other visual aids help illustrate key points and make the information more accessible to remember.
Summaries and highlights: Each module typically includes summaries and key takeaways to reinforce learning and ensure you understand the essential points.
5. Verification and immediate certification
a. Practical skills verification
While theoretical knowledge is crucial, CPR correctly is equally important during emergencies. An online CPR class offers various methods for verifying your practical skills to ensure you’re ready to act in an emergency. Here’s what to expect:
Video submission: You might be asked to record yourself performing CPR techniques and submit the video for evaluation by certified instructors.
Virtual assessments: Some courses offer live sessions with an instructor who will guide you through the skills assessment and provide real-time feedback.
Hybrid approach: Sometimes, you can complete the theoretical part online and attend a brief in-person session for practical skills testing.
Instant certification
One of the most convenient aspects of online CPR renewal is the quick turnaround for certification. Once you complete the course and pass any required assessments, you can often receive your certification immediately. Here’s how it works:
Digital certificate: Most providers offer a downloadable digital certificate. This means you can start using your renewed certification right away.
Conclusion
Online CPR classes represent the future of training for life-saving skills, offering numerous advantages over traditional in-person courses. They provide a flexible, convenient, and effective way to maintain your CPR certification without sacrificing the quality of education. With interactive learning modules, up-to-date content, and easy-to-understand material, online CPR classes ensure you’re well-prepared to respond in an emergency. The ability to study at your own pace and the quick certification process makes online CPR renewal an excellent choice for busy individuals and professionals.
Embrace the future of CPR training by enrolling in an online CPR class. It’s a practical, efficient, and reliable way to ensure you have the skills and knowledge to save lives.
