I sit now in an unknown place, confused and alone; while there is comfort in the lavish room I've been provided with, it is no substitution to Rin's warming smile or sweet voice... It has not yet been a day and my heart already pines for her company, I miss her.

I sit now in some Tavern in one of the multitude of planes that float adrift in the Astral Sea. The God, or at least ruler – a being that wears the shape of a Dwarven man, calling himself Aurellion- named this place 'The Nexus'; I recall some mention to the name but alas my understanding of this place is lacking. I do not know who could have predicted such events unfolding from how normal my morning was. We had finished a job for a town, a simple take down of some bandits, nothing to note honestly. We had returned to the town and Rin, the wonderful woman she is, was negotiating our reward – the gentleman that had hired us tried to swindle us out of the majority of the payment and naturally Rin took offence. After she had worked her magic... Have I mentioned I miss her? Anyway, after resolving that conflict we decided to move on toward the next town, the tavern had provided us with some information that there was a problem with some Goblins raiding.

That was when things went bad.

One moment I was walking at Rin's side, listening to her laugh at some strange joke and the next darkness took hold; it is difficult to describe. When my feet hit the floor, I was alone and in near darkness, some letter in my hand, sealed with some bronze coloured wax, a strange stamp pressed into its surface.

I inspected the letter before opening it, I will transcribe the contence below;

To whom it may concern,

Find my waystone, and you shall know everything there is to know. Die, and I will have been wrong about your abilities. I am never wrong. -Aurellion

The ink was enchanted to glitter. Along with the tone of this Aurellion, I assumed them to be some noble or individual of self importance but such things were of little use to me at the time. I was in some kind of cell, door ajar. I didn't want to remain but venturing into the unknown also caused unrest in my mind. I decided to explore regardless. It didn't take long for me to find what remained of either those like me, taken from their homes, or the original inhabitance of this building. Decrepit and rotting, these corpses looked old but there was no way to tell. I destroyed two of the foul things with my claws and spells, they were more fragile than I had expected.

Interestingly enough, I had found a chest; I was wary on my approach naturally... Rin usually dealt with traps or locks since I am... As she puts it, 'hilariously inept' at such things. Inside was one of those enhanced Hide Shirts I had seen in markets, seeing as it would provide more protection than my simple leather one. I returned to my cell and changed.

The further I explored, the more I could see that the building I was in was some form of Jail. 'Cell Block C' to be specific... There were other cells but the only other sentience creatures I had found was the deceased form of a noble or rich man – he was being eaten by another of the undead, it was a simple matter to slay it. The deceased had a fancy looking Rapier drawn, it didn't seem to help him much; I worried at first that it would have been a ceremonial blade but a few practice drills proved me wrong. It is a garish thing, overly encrusted with jewels for what should be a weapon; I plan to remove and salvage what I can to sell later.

There were two barriers that eventually barred my path, a green one and a purple one. The purple one disappeared after a while, I perhaps had done something to trigger it or perhaps the spell had simply faded. Beyond the purple barrier was a strange fountain, a serpent statue providing water into the basin. I didn't trust it. At first I tried to wet my dagger and drip the liquid onto the deceased man but I saw no change; I took a vial that had been sitting next to the fountain, half filled with water, and used that instead.

His organs began to regrow, it was certainly a positive effect but... I still felt uncomfortable and I removed his arms to be safe. I used my tail to refill the vial, taking care not to allow my flesh to touch the water.

It was soon that I came face to face with the nature of this place I had been spirited away to. A window in a solid metal door – blood had once oozed from underneath but was now aged and dry - provided me with the pleasure to view the swirling mass of darkness and negative energy that had claimed sovereignty of the skies. By all my understanding... I should be dead from the power of this negative energy, but unless I am blissfully unaware of my own demise, I am of whole body.

There were lights in the darkness. Burning coals of hatred, red and festering with anger. One set had saw me and I felt fear. The door stopped the beast, it had recoiled as if the metal was the bane of its being. After it had fled back into the darkness whence it came, I calmed myself trying to think of what it was I just saw.

Shades, mostly likely... It didn't seem like this was going to be a place I would escape without great risk... I was remind that I had yet to tell Rin that I loved her; at least the idea of returning to her side keeps me going...

There was another door, this one barred from my side; to keep something out... It was painted red, similar to the windowed door. With little other choice, I lifted the bar and continued. The next set of doors look like they had been destroyed by a beast far larger and stronger than those I have encountered thus far. It didn't alleviate my worries nor my fears.

Beyond the mangled doors was some kind of dining room or mess hall and inside stood two strange black skinned Goblins, eyes pure white. One had heard me but did not see me, I assumed they were blind. The first fell quickly, the second attempted to avenge his companion but didn't get very far; my first attacks had found his face and he took offence, seeking to flee. A Mahogany door barred his path and ultimately saw to his demise.

I tried to slit the throat of the little bastards but before I could pull my dagger, they disintegrated; some kind of shadow clone magic, I assume.

Undead, Shades and now Shadow Clones of Goblins... Along with the negative nature of the environment outside, I feared the worst... The only hope I had was the letter. Even now, when I am safe and of well health not a few hours later, I wish I was home but I am here for the long haul...

After breaking the lock on the door, the one the Goblin had attempted to flee through, I descended some stairs and found myself in some kind of guard tower; or at least, what was left one one. Inside was another deceased man, lying in a pool of his own blood... And another man, this one alive; he held a Halberd in his hand, standing alone in the darkness, jabbering on in Common about the 'darkness', 'the shadows' and how 'none can leave'.

I could only assume he was speaking of the Shades and I pitied him; from where I was, I identified him as Human... Unable to see in the pitch darkness, unlike me.

I sunk low and crept further into the room, I needed to be closer to cast a spell on him... He ended up swinging his weapon into the corpse and I ended the fight quickly. I think he saw me in those final seconds of life, he glared at me as he died, “Shadows take you.” I think he said.

How nice.

Just beyond this man's vigil was an angelic statue, glowing with positive energy... Even I could feel it, thrumming with power. Along the base was written something like, “For those that are lost, this is the Waystone.” I checked the letter again. This must have been the the same Waystone mentioned... I retrieved the Halberd and I took a deep breath... Perhaps there was a prayer uttered, not to any deity in particular, I just wanted to make it home to Rin. The moment I touched the stone, that sensation took claim of my senses again. The falling blackness, the airless breath and the creeping cold... When it faded, I was atop some kind of Ziggurat, a blueish haze enveloping the edges of my vision.

Then I heard clapping. I met with Aurellion, a self-titled God of Greed of this plane, this Nexus. Apparently, his people are under attack by a negative force, the same force I can assume that had claimed the skies above the prison I began this experience in. His people, as he called them, are all Crafters and Merchants; this land of his ruled by Coin. Hence his need to hire help... While I find his method disagreeable, if indeed a negative force is trying to claim his domain, he would need to parse the abilities of those that can aid; I can only assume this is why there were undead in the jail. Apparently, I am no prisoner here but if I do wish to leave, I will find my memory of this place gone... Yet, if this being is legitimate... The coin I could make here could set both Rin and I up for life. I decided to agree to become Business Partners, as he titled it. He directed me to a place I could rest, this Tavern, and gave me some kind of password or codeword to waver the fee... Well, at least temporarily, I do not believe some god of greed would allow me to 'free-load' for long.

As I left to rest my body, I could hear him clap once again. It seems another had beaten his trial; if Rin where here she would suggest attempting to find others taken such as I was but alas I am not she and dealing with people just causes this tightness in my chest to coil round my lungs.

I have no idea what species the Tavernkeep is... Tentacles rather than a mouth, seemingly unable to speak Common... Or any other spoken language... I announced that I was, “A New Arrival” as instructed and I was lead, in silence, to this room and was provided with a key. By the stars above Rin, this place is a wonder... Situation aside, these rooms would take months, if not years to afford a single night here... The bed is far too big for just I and I am reminded that this will be my first night sleeping alone in many years. I have bathed, the water so heavenly against my blood encrusted scales...

I will be speaking to Aurellion again tomorrow and see if I can wrest any information from him about what I will be facing in the coming days or even weeks... He said that Coin is Law here, perhaps I might pay to be reunited with... or at least a way to scy upon my partner; I was taken without a word and I worry for her. I miss her.

I am exhausted and my days are going to be long for the foreseeable future. With luck, I shall be able to put quill to parchment tomorrow.
