That moment in PIC S3 where Jack is tearfully telling Deanna he thinks he might not be okay, and as soon as she catches a glimpse of what's going on she shuts down, calls him the most dangerous thing on the ship, posts armed guards and walks away - and nobody bats an eyelid. I'm not exaggerating when I say that this is the worst possible thing to do, and having Deanna of all people treat Jack this way? Wow.

_______
A thick pile of furs lined the skinny hay-filled bed, the pile moving up and down rhythmically with soft snores. Your head laid peacefully over your scarred Witcher’s chest as you slept, rocked into peace by the movements of his breath. Everything was warm and cozy and perfect here in your little sanctuary within the keep.
It was midwinter morning, a day where thankfully Vesemir let the boys be a little more lax with their training than usual.
Geralt’s hand rubbed idly over your back, half asleep with his eyes closed as he languished in the rare morning off.
“Mmmph…” he grunted from above you, his eyes peeking open to the morning light. The room seemed quiet and still, exactly as it had been last night- down to the small fire still smoldering in the tiny fireplace.
“I think I hear Ciri coming…” He warned through a sleep-roughened voice, though he made no move to get up.
Still not quite awake, you grunted in response, whether you had meant to form actual words though you would never know.
“Mmmm, I definitely hear her coming…” he hummed, bringing his other hand behind her head as he listened to her tiny racing feet. ‘It’s midwinter morning! It’s midwinter morning..!’ Her childish voice rang out, no doubt waking up everyone else in the keep. Geralt grinned as he heard his daughter getting closer. He could wake you up and warn you…. Or he could just have fun watching you get body-slammed by a seven-year-old….. he chose the latter.
He kept one eye peeled open as the door flung open and a flash of white ran into the room, Running and jumping in an arc as she yelled “IT’S MIDWINTER MORNING!!”
Her little body slammed down onto the pair of you, knocking the breath from your body and instantly waking you up. “I’m up! I’m up..!!!” You yelped as you woke.
“It’s midwinter morning, wake up…! I wanna open PRESENTS!” Ciri shouted through a giggle as she rolled around on your back.
“Alright, Ciri… Alright, I think you made your point,” Geralt laughed as he pulled her up on his chest opposite you, giving you the chance to pull her in under the mound of furs.
Her little laughs bounced around the room as you kissed all over her face, torturing her with affection as she tried to wriggle away., “No…! No, stooppp…!” She cried through the laughs, trying to push your face away, “stooooop, we’re wasting precious present time..!”
Even the White wolf had to laugh, sneaking in a kiss to Ciri’s head when she was busy fending you off, “Alright, kid. You’ve made your wake-up call… why don’t you go and make sure all your uncles are up, and we’ll start getting ready for presents, okay? We’ll meet you in the Great Hall.”  Geralt negotiated as you tried to continue your onslaught, to little avail.
“And then we eat and open gifts??” She questioned as she looked up at her father, her hands smooshed across your face.
“And then we eat and open gifts… now go on lest someone gets the idea to tickle you..”
With lightning-fast speed she wriggled out of the bed, crawling across the two of you until she finally popped out on the other end. “Eskel…! Lambert…! It’s time to get up…!!” She yelled as she ran out to face the rest of the cold stone hallways.
Laughing, you sighed and leaned back into Geralt’s chest, “Oh, I love her….”
With a bright smile, he nodded, “I’m glad…  and I’m glad she has you too…” he mumbled as he continued to rub your back, “I’m glad she has a chance to be a normal kind with you around…”
Your heart melted at his little confession. There was never a doubt in anyone’s mind how much Geralt loved Ciri, it was obvious to even a stranger on the street. But that didn’t stop it from warming your heart every time you heard it.
“I’m glad I can give her a little normalcy too… but I couldn’t do it without you, you know that, right?”
A warm smile grew across his normally stoic expression as his fingers moved to caress your cheek, “I love you, little fox…”
You grinned, your lips pressing a warm kiss into his palm, “I love you too, my big bad Wolf..”

Interview: Medieval Christian Art in the Levant
Medievalists retain misconceptions and myths about Oriental Christians. Indeed, the fact that the Middle East is the birthplace of Christianity is an afterthought for many. During the Middle Ages, Christians from different creeds and confessions lived in present-day Lebanon, Syria, Israel, and Palestine. Here, they constructed churches, monasteries, nunneries, and seminaries, which retain timeless artistic treasures and cultural riches.
James Blake Wiener speaks to Dr Mat Immerzee to clarify and contextualize the artistic and cultural heritage of medieval Christians who resided in what is now the Levant.
Dr Immerzee is a retired Assistant Professor at Universiteit Leiden and Director of the Paul van Moorsel Centre for Christian Art and Culture in the Middle East at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam.

JBW: The largest Christian community in what is present-day Lebanon is that of the Maronite Christians – they trace their origins to the 4th-century Syrian hermit, St. Maron (d. 410). The Maronite Church is an Eastern Catholic Syriac Church, using the Antiochian Rite, which has been in communion with Rome since 1182. Nonetheless, Maronites have kept their own unique traditions and practices.
What do you think differentiates medieval Maronite art and architecture from other Christian sects in the Levant? Due to a large degree of contact with traders and crusaders from Western Europe, I would suspect that we see “Western” influence reflected in Maronite edifices, mosaics, frescoes, and so forth.
MI: Especially in the 13th century, the oriental Christian communities enjoyed an impressive cultural flourishing which came to expression in the embellishment of churches with wall paintings, icons, sculpture, and woodwork and the production of illustrated manuscripts, but what remains today differs from on one community or region to another. In Lebanon, several dozens of decorated Maronite and Greek Orthodox churches are encountered in mountain villages and small towns in the vicinity of Jbeil (Byblos), Tripoli, the Qadisha Valley, and by exception in Beirut, but only a few still preserve substantial parts of their medieval decoration programs. Most churches fell into decay after the Christian cultural downfall in the early 14th century when the pressure to convert became stronger. While many church buildings were left in the state they were, others were renovated in the Ottoman period or more recently.

Remarkably Oriental Christian art displays broad uniformity with some regional and denominational differences. Cut off from the East Roman (Byzantine) Empire after the Arab conquest, it also escaped from the Byzantine iconoclastic movement (726-843 CE), which allowed the Middle Eastern Christians to develop their artistic legacy in their own way. An appealing subject is the introduction of warrior saints on horseback such as George and Theodore from about the 8th century. The West and the Byzantine Empire had to wait until the Crusader era to pick up this oriental motif and make it a worldwide success. But the borrowing was mutual. Mounted saints painted in Maronite, Melkite (Greek Orthodox), and Syriac Orthodox churches would increasingly be equipped with a chain coat and rendered with their feet in a forward thrust position, a battle technique developed within Norman military circles. Moreover, the Syrian equestrian saints Sergius and Bacchus were rendered holding a crossed ‘crusader’ banner, an attribute usually associated with Saint George, as if they were Crusader knights. Apart from these examples, there is little evidence of Oriental susceptibility to typically Latin subjects. We find Saint Lawrence of Rome represented in the Greek Orthodox Monastery of Our Lady near Kaftun, but this is exceptional.
Normally, one cannot tell from wall paintings in Lebanon to which community the church in question belonged. They all represented the same subjects and saints whose names are written in Greek and/or Syriac and may have recruited painters from the same artistic circles. Regarding architecture, the last word has not been said on this matter, because the documentation of medieval Lebanese church architecture is still in progress. Nevertheless, the build of some churches undeniably displays Western architectural influences; for example, the Maronite Church of Saint Sabas in Eddé al-Batrun is even plainly Romanesque in style.
JBW: Following my last question, is it then correct to assume that the Crusader lands – Edessa, Antioch, Tripoli, and Jerusalem – were quite receptive to Eastern Christian styles?
MI: That is difficult to tell because there is next to nothing left in the former County of Edessa and the Principality of Antioch. We do have some decorated churches in the former Kingdom of Jerusalem (Abu Gosh, Bethlehem), and here we see a strong focus on Byzantine craftsmanship and Latin usage. Apart from the preserved church embellishment in the Lebanese mountains, there are some fascinating, stylistically and thematically comparable instances across the border with Syria.
Saint Peter in Sinai

Although situated within Muslim territory, the Qalamun District between Damascus and Homs stands out for its well-established Greek Orthodox and Syriac Orthodox populations; and from the 18th century onwards, also Greek Catholics and Syrian Catholics. Interestingly, stylistic characteristics confirm that indigenous Syrian painters were also involved in the decoration inside Crusader fortresses such as Crac des Chevaliers and Margat Castle in Syria. It was obviously easier to contract local manpower than to find specialists in Europe.
JBW: The Byzantine Empire exuded tremendous political, cultural, and religious sway across the Levant throughout the Middle Ages; a sizable chunk of the Christian population in both Syria and Lebanon still adheres to the rituals of the Greek Orthodox Church even today.
MI: Leaving aside the cultural foundations laid before the Arab conquest, the contemporary Byzantine influences can hardly be overlooked. In the 12th and 13th centuries, itinerating Byzantine-trained painters worked on behalf of any well-paying client within Frankish and Muslim territory, from Cairo to Tabriz, irrespective of their denominational background. This partly explains the introduction of some ‘fashionable’ Byzantine subjects and the Byzantine brushwork of several mural paintings and icons. Made in the 1160s, the Byzantine-style mosaics in the Church of the Nativity at Bethlehem are believed to be the result of Latin-Byzantine cooperation at the highest levels; they exhale the propagandistic message of Christian unity. In 1204, however, the Crusaders would conquer Constantinople and substantial parts of the Byzantine Empire. The Venetians brought the bounty to Venice, and, surprisingly, also to Alexandria with the consent of the sultan in Cairo, intending to sell the objects in the Middle East. So much for Christian unity…
The Eastern Greek Orthodox Church has its roots in the Chalcedonian dispute about the human and divine nature of Christ in 451, which resulted in the dogmatic breakdown of the Byzantine Church into pro- and anti-Chalcedonian factions. Like the Maronites, the Melkites (‘royalists’) remained faithful to the former, official Byzantine standpoint, except for their oriental patriarchs in Antioch, Alexandria, and Jerusalem were officially allowed autonomy without direct interference from Constantinople. On the other hand, the Syriac Orthodox became dogmatically affiliated with the identically ‘Miaphysite’ Coptic, Ethiopian, and Armenian Churches. To complicate matters even more, part of the Greek Orthodox and Syriac Orthodox communities joined the Church of Rome in the 18th century. This resulted in the establishment of the Greek Catholic and Syriac Catholic Churches.

JBW: Could you tell us a little bit more with regard to the Syriac Orthodox Church? If I’m not mistaken, there was a flourishing of the building of churches and monasteries by Syriac Orthodox communities once they fell under Muslim rule around 640.
MI: As a Miaphysite community, the Syriac Orthodox enjoyed the same protected status as other non-Muslim communities under Muslim rule. This allowed them to establish an independent Church hierarchy headed by their patriarch who nominally resided in Antioch, which covered large areas in Iran, Iraq, Turkey, and Syria. Some of their oldest churches, with architectural sculpture and occasionally a mosaic, are situated in the Tur Abdin region in Southeast Turkey. Remarkably, around the year 800, a group of monks from the city of Takrit (present-day Tikrit in Iraq) migrated to Egypt to establish a Syriac ‘colony’ within the Coptic monastic community. Their ‘Monastery of the Syrians’ (Deir al-Surian) still exists and is one of Middle Eastern Christianity’s key monuments for its architecture, wall paintings, icons, wood- and plasterwork ranging in date from the 7th to the 13th centuries. The monastery also houses an extensive manuscript collection. Another decorated monastery is the Monastery of St Moses (Deir Mar Musa; presently Syriac Catholic) near Nebk to the north of Damascus, where paintings from the 11th and 13th-centuries can still be seen. The Monastery of St Behnam (Deir Mar Behnam; presently Syriac Catholic) near Mosul is reputed for its 13th-century architectural sculpture and unique stucco relief, but unfortunately, a lot has been destroyed by ISIS warriors.
The Syriac Orthodox presence in Lebanon remained limited to a church dedicated to Saint Behnam in Tripoli, and the temporary use of a Maronite church dedicated to St Theodore at the village of Bahdeidat by refugees from the East who were on the run from the Mongols during the 1250s. This church still displays its complete decoration program from this period. It is impossible to tell which community arranged the refurbishment, but the addition of a donor figure in Western dress testifies to support from a (probably) local Frankish lord. Finally, the Syriac Orthodox also excelled in manuscript illumination, examples of which can be found in Western collections and the patriarchal library near Damascus.
JBW: As the Lebanese and Syrian Greek Orthodox Churches had fewer dealings with Western Europeans than the Maronite Church, does medieval Christian Orthodox art in Lebanon and Syria reflect and maintain the designs and styles of medieval Byzantium? If so, in what ways, and where do we see deviation or innovation?
MI: As I said before, Byzantine-trained artists have been surprisingly active in the Frankish states and beyond, especially during the 13th century. I prefer to label them as “Byzantine-trained” instead of “Byzantine,” because it is not always clear where they came from. To mention an example, painters from Cyprus still worked in the Byzantine artistic tradition but no longer fell under the authority of the emperor after the Crusader conquest of the island in 1291. Culturally they were still fully Byzantine, but, speaking in modern terms, they would have had the Frankish-Cypriot nationality. The little we can say from the preserved paintings is that some Cypriot artists traveled to the Levant in the aftermath of the power change in search of new clientele. It is unknown if they stayed or returned after the accomplishment of their tasks, but around the mid-13th century we see the birth of a ‘Syrian-Cypriot’ style which combines Byzantine painting techniques with typically Syrian formal features and designs; for example, in the afore-mentioned Monastery at Kaftun in Lebanon. Typically, instances of this blended art are not only encountered in Lebanon and Syria but also in Cyprus.

Focusing on the shared elements in Oriental Christian and Byzantine art, the example of apse decorations illustrates the resemblances and often also subtle differences. From the Early Christian period, the common composition in the apse behind the altar consisted of the mystical appearance of Christ (Christ in Glory) between the Four Living Creatures in the conch and the Virgin between saints, such as the apostles and Church fathers, in the lower zone. However, an early variant encountered in Egypt renders the biblical Vision of Ezekiel: here, Christ in Glory is placed on the fiery chariot the prophet saw. Recent research has brought to light that this variant was also applied in Syriac Orthodox churches in Turkey and Iraq as late as the 13th century. Medieval oriental conch paintings often combine Christ in Glory with the Deesis, that is, the Virgin and St John the Baptist pleading in favour of mankind. Whereas the Byzantines kept these subjects separated, the ‘Deesis-Vision’ is encountered from Egypt to Armenia and Georgia in churches of all denominations
JBW: One cannot discuss medieval Christian art in the Near East without making some mention of Armenians and Georgians. The first recorded Armenian pilgrimage occurred in the early 4th century, and Armenian Cilicia (1080-1375) flourished at the time of the Crusades. During the reign of Queen Tamar (r. 1184-1213), Georgia assumed the traditional role of the Byzantine crown as a protector of the Christians of the Middle East. Armenians and Georgians intermarried not only with one another but also with Byzantines and Crusaders.
Where is the medieval Armenian and Georgian presence the strongest in the Levant? Is it discernible?
Tomb of Saint Hripsime in Armenia

MI: Medieval Armenian and Georgian art can be found in their homelands, but there are also surviving works testifying to their presence in the Levant and Egypt. Starting with the Armenians, they have always lived in groups dispersed throughout the Middle East, whereas in Jerusalem they have their own quarter. A 13th-century wooden door with typically Armenian ornamentation and inscriptions in the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem testify to the interest Armenians took in the Holy Land. Further to the south, a 12th-century mural painting with Armenian inscriptions in the White Monastery near Sohag reminds us of the strong Armenian presence in Egypt under Fatimid rule during the 11th to 12th centuries. They had arrived in the wake of the rise of power of the Muslim Armenian warlord and later Vizir Badr al-Jamali, who seized all power in the Fatimid realm during the 1070s. He not only brought his own army consisting of Christian and Muslim Armenians but also made Egypt a safe home for Armenians from more troubled areas.
The Christian Armenians had their own monastery and used a number of churches in Egypt. However, these were appropriated by the Copts at the downfall of Fatimid power and the subsequent expulsion of all Armenians during the 1160s. The Armenian catholicos or head of Egypt is known to have left for Jerusalem taking with him all the church treasures.
At the White Monastery, a mural was made by an artist named Theodore originating from a village in Southeastern Turkey on behalf of Armenian miners who were apparently allowed to use the monastery’s church. It is hard to believe that Theodore came all the way to accomplish just one task in this remote place. There can be no doubt that he decorated more Armenian churches during his stay in Egypt, but the Copts thoroughly wiped out all remaining traces of their previous owners.
The Georgian presence was limited to Jerusalem, where they owned the Monastery of the Holy Cross until it was taken over by the Greek Orthodox in the 17th century. In the monastery’s church, a series of 14th-century paintings with Georgian inscriptions are a reminder of this period. In addition, an icon representing St George and scenes of his life painted during the early 13th century, and kept in the Monastery of Saint Catherine in the Sinai, was a gift from a Georgian monk, who is himself depicted prostrating at the saint’s feet.

JBW: Because we touched upon the incorporation of outside artistic influences coming from Western Europe and Byzantium to the Levant, I wondered if you might offer a final comment or two on those architectural or artistic influences coming from the Arab World or even the wider Islamic world.
To what extent did Levantine Christians – who often lived near their Muslim neighbors – adopt or assimilate Islamic styles of art and architecture?
MI: The earliest examples of Islamic art from the Umayyad era display strong influences of Late Antiquity, which in turn had also been the source of inspiration to early Christian art. Over the course of time, these artistic relatives would gradually grow apart to meet again on specific occasions. The earliest example of Islamic-inspired Christian art is the purely ornamental stucco reliefs in the Monastery of the Syrians in Egypt. Constructed during the early 10th century by the Abbot Moses of Nisibis. Its plastered altar room exudes the same atmosphere as houses in the 9th-century Abbasid capital of Samarra and the similarly decorated Mosque of Ibn Tulun (an Abbasid prince who came to Egypt as its governor) in Cairo.
The Mosque of Ibn Tulun, Cairo Egypt

The decoration of Fatimid-era sanctuary screens in Coptic churches and woodwork from Egyptian Islamic, Jewish, and secular contexts are fully interchangeable; likewise, 13th-century architectural sculpture, manuscript illustrations, and metalwork from the Mosul area display the same shared stylistic and iconographic artistic language. Broadly speaking, we are obviously dealing with craftsmen working on behalf of different parties at the local level regardless of their religious backgrounds. Occasionally, one comes across ‘Islamic’ ornaments in wall paintings, but the overall impression is that Christian painting was subject to blatant conservatism when compared to more fashionable, ‘neutral’ items of interior decoration. The only Arabic inscriptions found in mural paintings concern texts commemorating building or refurbishment activities, or graffiti left by visitors. There obviously was a difference in status between the vernacular spoken language and the Church’s Greek and Syriac.
JBW: Dr. Mat Immerzeel, thanks so much for your time and consideration.
MI: You are welcome; it is my pleasure to contribute to your magazine.
Mat Immerzeel has been active in the Middle East since 1989, first in Egypt, then in Syria and Lebanon, and recently in Cyprus. His main field of study is the material culture of Oriental Christian communities from the 3rd century to the present. In particular, he studies wall paintings, icons, stone and plaster sculpture, woodwork, and manuscript illustrations. He has participated in research projects focusing on the formation of religious communal identity, the training of local collection curators, and restoration and documentation campaigns. He is the Director of the Paul van Moorsel Centre for Christian Art and Culture in the Middle East and editor-in-chief of the journal Eastern Christian Art (ECA) published by Peeters Publishers in Leuven, the Netherlands.

These Notes Aren't for Science
Senjuushi Like Two X Gender Neutral Reader Modern/College AU Summary: You begin taking notice of the little things about Like Two. Beginning Note: It's still the 14th and I needed to do something for Senjuushi. I haven't done anything for a long while, but I'm trying to cook up my ideas. This feels a little messy, but I'll do some headcanons on this subject at a later time to sort out the ideas that didn't make it here. Word Count: 726 (Fluff)
Mental Notes of Like Two
Recently, you noted an attraction you were beginning to feel towards Like Two. You didn’t want to potentially ruin your friendship by some confession, so you’ll simply stick with admiring him slightly and cherish your time with him.
However, you don’t have to just sit on the sidelines. Why not take notice of all the little things about him and try to show that you care through thoughtful gestures?
Thing is, you’ll need to keep track of everything without writing them down. It’d be quite unsettling if you found out someone was taking notes on you like you’re some test subject to study. Or it could be flattering if done right. It’s probably better not to risk the former view, so you’ll simply record your observations in your mind.
All that’s left is to spend time with Like Two normally and go about your life. This isn’t anything big.
--
Like Two Notes (1): Likes latte and other pretty beverages
Whenever the two of you go somewhere to order some food or drinks, Like Two always orders menu items that look nice. The time you asked him why he does so, he simply replied, “If I’m going to consume something, I’d rather it not look unappetizing.”
Understandable. Why eat something if it looks absolutely vile? So, you tucked the fact that he likes pretty foods and drinks away in the back of your mind.
And that information came to be useful, as one day, you were walking to your classes without Like Two by your side. He needed to go early and the cafe you two frequent wasn’t open at that time, so you tasked yourself with getting his usual. You knew that he didn’t care if he had his morning drink or not, but perhaps he’d appreciate the thought.
Luckily, you share your first period with Like Two, so the latte wouldn’t go bad before it got to him.
--
Like Two Notes (2): Loves exercise
Every day, Like Two tells you about what he did. Sometimes, this list is long and takes a few minutes to go down, also depending on how much detail he’ll put into the recounting. Other times, he only had a thing or two that were worth noting.
But one thing Like Two will always mention is what he did for his workout that day. Sometimes you join him, but it really depends on your mood.
--
Like Two Notes (3): Claims to hate anything feminine, but actually loves them
So many times. So many times you’ve heard him snap at others that he isn’t into skincare or beauty topics. And he could be convincing if you didn’t know him as well as you do. Most times, he’s seen chilling, going to a shooting range, working out, all that jazz. Luckily for you, you’ve known him for a long time, so you know about his past and interests.
And because of those things, he decided to take a couple courses to lead him in that direction. Dermatology, cosmetology, and chemistry, why not? Like Two doesn’t tell many people of the careers he’s considering, but it’s honestly not hard to guess them.
“What would you do if you don’t get the job you want?” You once asked him, both of you sitting on a bench in a local park. You were eating a small snack and looking around the scenery before the inquiry. Beside you, Like Two was absentmindedly scrolling around social media on his phone, a lollipop hanging from between his lips.
Upon hearing the question, he lifted his head and glanced into your eyes for a second before averting his gaze. He shrugged his shoulders and slid down the bench into a more comfortable position. “Probably continue modeling until I can’t. And if that doesn’t work either, I’ll join the military.”
You hummed in response. Crossing a leg over the other, you leaned forward and rested your elbow on your elevated knee. “You got a lot of choices for your future. I’ll even throw in a suggestion of acting or being a popstar,” your lips curled into a smile.
He exhaled a small laugh, shaking his head slightly. “I’ll stick with what I have now, thank you.”

what if? | park gunwook
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
pairing: gunwook x reader
genre: fluff
word count: 726
warnings: none. lowercase intended, not proofread.
prompt: 19. "get out of my head."
notes: i'm ngl i saw this in my inbox and have been thinking abt it ever since i just NEED to write it or smth bc ohhh my wookie (i am so in l word w him it's fucking crazy)
most people your age spent their friday nights out and about, whether at parties or out on the town with friends, everyone just wanted to go out and have fun. but for you and gunwook, you preferred your nights in every once in a while, especially on days like today where you both had homework due the following monday.
you both wanted the rest of your weekend free of stress, so the quicker you got it done the better. and that's how you were sat here in gunwook's bedroom. you had found yourself sat on the floor, back resting on the side of his bed, books and papers sprawled out on the floor. gunwook had sat down at his desk, typing out the outline for some paper on his laptop. the clicking keys and pen scratching the only noise for a while, until a loud huff broke through the air.
"what's wrong wook?" you asked, knowing that clearly something was up.
he shook his head, tapping his fingers on the table, "i can't focus on anything, i've been staring at this page for half an hour now." he let out a frustrated sigh, and you couldn't help but feel bad. you knew how annoying it was to just not be able to focus, especially when you just wanted to get the task done.
"is there any way i can help?" you asked sincerely, wanting to at least try to be helpful.
the boy hadn't turned to answer you, so his next words were barely audible. "i need you to get out of my head."
did you hear him right? you were convinced that surely, surely you hadn't. so you quickly asked him to repeat himself. turning his body around to face you, he took in a breath before replying again.
"get out of my head," he sighed, "i can't focus on this paper when you take up every thought in my mind." a pout had crossed his face as he let out the admission. his cheeks had quickly flushed a dark crimson as he saw your widened eyes looking back at him. it was in that moment he realized that he had essentially just confessed to you without even meaning to.
your mouth ran dry, every response you could come up with seemed to get trapped in your throat, and you felt yourself resisting the urge to simply kiss the blushing boy in front of you. after years of no confession from the boy, you had started to think you should give up on ever having your feelings returned, but here you were, and here he was.
looking up at the boy you let out a small "oh," before moving your books off of your lap and standing up, opting to lean against the desk. gunwook's eyes didn't leave yours, too nervous for the response he would get, and whether he had just messed everything up or not.
"what if," you paused, trying to gain the courage to not trip over your words, "i want to be in your head?"
now it was gunwook's turn to let out a mumbled "oh." his mind going a million miles a minute at your response while a subconscious smile found its way to his lips. "then uhm," he pushed his hair back, trying to come up with a minimally embarrassing response, "then i guess that's okay."
the boy took a moment to stand up, suddenly towering your frame as he stood in front of you, "you're more important than some silly essay anyways." you caught his eyes flickering between your eyes and your lips, and you couldn't help but shrink under his gaze.
an attempt at a response had come out more as incoherent mumbles, much to your dismay, but gunwook had come up with a solution to your problem. before you knew it he was leaning in closer and you could smell his cologne as if you were being engulfed in him.
as much as you wanted to look at the pretty boy in front of you more, you let your eyes flutter shut as you leaned to close the last couple inches between your lips. you could feel gunwook smile into the kiss before pulling away, a sheepish grin plastered on both of your faces.
"you know," you mumbled, "you're on my mind a lot too, gunwook."

And with this current chapter, we are now 50 chapters. or else 100 weeks away from chapter 181. Why is this significant? Because 181 plus 545 equals 726, or “na-tsu-ru.” If Mashima does not canonize NaLu on this chapter above all else - no kiss, no confession, no admission of feelings, none of that - it’s not getting canonized at all.
Alternatively, since there’s obviously WAY more than 50 chapters left in the 100 Years Quest story, Mashima could canonize NaLi, as -ru and -ri are inflections of each other, and kickstart the actual NaLu plotline that would inevitably get more focus until the end of the series.
So if I counted out the schedule right (which I know I didn’t do because Japanese holidays), then 100YQ 181 drops on March 18th, 2025. So look forward to that, I guess.

The Shadow Queen of Tywin Lannister
Summary:
After the death of his wife, Tywin Lannister knew he would never remarry. However, when the relationships between Targaryens & Lannisters are put into question, marriage seems to be the only choice left. To his surprise, it is himself that will get married to none other than the King’s younger sister.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Pairing: Fem!OC x Tywin Lannister Chapter Warnings: None
Previous - Chapter 14: Meeting the Lion Cubs Next - Chapter 16: Crossing the Line, part 1
Chapter 15: Tourney at Lannisport
726 AC – King’s Landing – CrownLands – Seat of Power: Aerys II Targaryen
After the morning when Visenya broke fast with Tywin and his family, the meeting was repeated quite a few times over the course of the year.
Tyrion kept staring at her every single time, Jamie seemed to be happy having her around, and even Cersei seemed to tolerate her more.
There was something about her presence and her willingness to answer their questions that offered a sense of normality to everyone.
Tywin could not remember when it was the last time they dined without awkward silence or when the kids seemed to be interested in someone outside of their family.
Visenya also seemed to be natural with the kids; her smile came more naturally when she was around them, and even Kevan seemed to enjoy her company. Tywin often observed and studied her as she remained the epitome of etiquette and manners but also had this motherly side, which surprisingly worked on his kids.
The year passed, and by the beginning of the next, Queen Rhaella had given birth to yet another boy. Aerys was ecstatic, but his happiness was not measurable with the happy news.
Visenya was relieved that her sister was healthy and survived the birthing process. The boy, who was named Viserys, seemed to have taken her soft features.
She leaned over the cradle, watching the thin but healthy baby as he slept. His tiny hands held on her index finger, holding with quite a grip.
The Dragon Princess watched him sleep, smiling all the time as she memorised every little feature of the baby. Her sister sat on a chair, resting her body after feeding her baby.
Aerys had been rather protective of the baby, especially after all those miscarriages and had put a guard above the crib 24/7. Even Rhaella was not allowed to be alone with the baby; of course, neither was Visenya.
"He has your eyes", the Princess commented as she gently rocked the cradle.
The guard was stationed by the door, his eyes always locked on their form as if they would murder the baby while it slept.
Rhaella smiled and enjoyed watching them, knowing Visenya didn't truly have much time or chance to be with her family.
"I know, and I am sure he looks like me, although I do fear he will take after Aerys when he grows up; hopefully only in appearance", she confessed, her voice low from exhaustion, dark circles under her eyes.
Visenya glanced in her direction. "He will, but not as much. Your features will also be visible," she said, making her sister look her way with a knowing look. A mental question was in her mind, and her younger sister knew what it was. "Yes," she answered her. "He will wear your crown, you will give it to him and he will carry it with pride" she explained, being as vague as possible due to the guard present in the room.
Her words seemed to reassure Rhaella, whose body relaxed more on the chair while Visenya turned to focus back on the baby.
"He likes you," the Queen pointed out. "Doubt there is any kid that doesn't."
Visenya lifted an eyebrow and looked back at her sister. "You speak as if you know something I don't," she told her.
Rhaella gave a weak smirk. "Certain blond children to jog your memory", she explained, always careful not to give away too much.
The youngest woman had told her sister about the times she dined with Tywin and his children, and the pregnant Queen was more than happy to hear the news since Aerys had her locked up in her room for "protection," as he would justify it.
Rolling her eyes, the Princess replied nonetheless. "It's nothing. The kids ask questions, and I do not mind answering them. They seem to enjoy it, and he doesn't seem to mind either,"
Rhaella listened. "What about you, though? Do you enjoy it?"
Visenya could not lie, and she smiled faintly at the memories. She adverted her eyes to the sleeping baby. "It is a refreshing change. The kids are intelligent, and I can see that the presence of another woman affects them."
"What about children of your own? You still haven't found anyone to settle?"
For a moment, Visenya's mind brought up an image of Tywin, but she quickly shook her head and suppressed that image. "No, and I doubt I will. The realm needs guidance and stability for Rhaegar to eventually take over. This is far more important."
Rhaella let out a sigh. Sometimes, her younger sister was too serious for her good. She spoke about the good of the realm and spent her time dealing with everything other than her happiness.
An idea suddenly popped into her mind, the twinkle of amusement glowing in her violet eyes. "What about a certain...lion?" She whispered the last word, making her sister wie her head faster than ever.
Immediately, Visenya went to the defensive. "He is a widowed man, sister. He has too many things on his plate already, and I know the kids won't accept me either," she said, never realizing that she never denied her part.
She spoke of him and him alone, denying anything about her liking the idea or having feelings for him. Rhaella took notice of all those things and realised that her sister had feelings for the Hand of the King.
Based on how often he asked to dine with her, she suspected that Tywin had something more in mind than just Normal partnership or friendship. While she did not know him very well, she could see he was a reserved but lonely man.
A man who once tasted Love, but then it was taken for him. Per his nature, he yearned for that connection again after getting a taste of it.
But at the same time, he was not one to express his desires and simply buried himself in work; ironically, that sounded very similar to a Targaryen she knew.
━─━────༺༻────━─━
Lannisport – WesternLands
Aerys was so happy with the birth of Viserys that he ordered Tywin to organize the biggest Tourney yet to celebrate the second Targaryen boy born into the Royal Family, but this time in Lannisport. As he was instructed, the loyal Hand of the King did exactly that, despite what he truly thought.
On the day of the Jousting Tournament, the stands were filled with Nobles from all of the great families, whether big or small. Many had their sons entering the tournament since they were of the right age to compete.
The Main Royal Booth was created and placed with a great view of the Jousting Arena, while comfortable chairs were placed for special guests. Rhaella and baby Viserys had remained in King’s Landing while Crown Prince Rhaegar had chosen to participate in the tourney,
This left the booth to be occupied by Steffon Baratheon, his wife Cassana Esternont and their two children, Robert and Stannis, ages 10 & 4 and 10 & 2, respectively. Aerys and Visenya were present from the Targaryen Royal Family, and Tywin brought his three children to observe.
When the King showed his face, the crowd cheered, but when Tywin did, the crowd went wild. Twice as loud did they cheer for the Hand of the King and their Lord, angering the current King. To his surprise and later jealousy, even Visenya seemed to receive extensive prayers from the common folk.
He had noticed that even the Lannister Soldiers treated her differently, more special than they should, and he did not like it at all.
Eventually, the time for the Tournament began, and everyone’s attention was on the competing knights. Many of Tywin’s best, including his brothers Kevan and Gerion, had also participated, but so did Rhaegar.
The charming prince had been freshly knighted and had also drawn the love of the crowd, the people cheering for him while many young ladies seemed to be smitten by his charming looks, Cersei Lannister included.
The Young Prince looked charming as ever, straight out of a children’s book, as he rode his brown mare towards the royal booth. “Dear Aunt, may I have your favour?” he asked, lifting his jousting lance towards the booth.
His actions amused Visenya, who graced him with a smile. “You may,” she said and stood up, her dark purple dress having faint jewels at the edges of her sleeves, collarbone and endings that reflected the bright sun. Her hair had been half pulled up into an elegant bun, her neck bare of any jewellery, but many felt it was not truly needed with her beauty.
She picked up a bloody red Favour and gently placed it at the tip of the lance, allowing it to fall all the way to the handle.
Rhaegar gave a pearly white smile at her and the rest of the booth before he galloped to face his first opponent. As Visenya sat down, she noticed how Cersei, who had been seated next to her, let out a heavy sigh.
One did not have to be clever to realize that the young Lannister, barely 10, was smitten by the Crown Prince like many women and young girls before her. This amused her, and she would not mind seeing a future alliance between their houses with Cersei as Queen next to Rhaegar.
The Tourney started, and Rhaegar seemed unstoppable. He defeated every opponent he had faced, including Tywin’s men and brothers. His victory was an unbreakable streak, and that caused talk among many nobles and common folk alike.
“The Prince is unbeatable, am telling you.”
“I say it is the favour of the Princess that does all the job.”
“She must be a lucky woman. Her presence helped defeat the Silver Lions a year ago.”
“I heard that she planned everything on her own and not the King.”
Of course, gossip and talk were never only one-sided. Many, especially ladies, had chosen to also bring up Visenya in their conversations, but it was not meant for praising.
“Did you hear? She is 6 and 20 years old and still unmarried”
“I heard that she had been turning down suitors for years”
“She is growing old. Soon, no man will want her no matter who her brother is”
"Maybe she is barren and doesn't want the world to know."
"Can you imagine a woman unable to produce kids?"
The chatting continued, and the word spread about Visenya’s luck and strategic intelligence. The word kept spreading, barely reaching the royal booth, and none truly seemed to pay attention, except for Tywin.
Visenya was fully focused on her nephew, whom she had personally helped train for the Tourney. She held her head high in pride, her eyes not hiding the satisfaction she felt upon seeing her training being key in the many victories of Rhaegar.
His final opponent was Ser Arthur Dayne of the Kingsguard, and while in the first round, none fell off the horse, the same could not be said for the second round. The experienced knight managed to unsaddle the Crown Prince and put an end to his winning streak.
━─━────༺༻────━─━
The very same night, a feast was held in honour of the royal family, and it took place on the wall of Casterly Rock.
Visenya was more than happy to be back, having missed the view and the silence of the place, although that silence did not exist with how loud her brother and the rest of the nobles were.
Aerys did not try to hide his roaming eyes, flirting with other women and even man-handling some female servants, as if his wife did not wait for him back at King’s Landing.
Unfortunately, such incidents were very common with him and the number of mistresses was lost by now, even to Visenya.
The full attention of the crowd got Rhaegar, who had sat by a harp and started to play one of his songs. His sweet and trained voice had many entranced and even managed to bring tears to Cersei Lannister herself, who felt her heart beating faster once their eyes locked for a moment.
While Rhaegar was busy performing, Visenya had grabbed the chance to leave the feast. Instead, she had walked herself to the same balcony she had been 1 year ago.
This time, with a cloak to protect her against the winds, she leaned on the marble railing and tried to focus on the sound of the crashing waves, the salty smell being welcomed by her senses.
Her disappearance was noticed by Tywin, who soon had excused himself and had followed after her. He did not have to, for he knew where she would go, and his guess was not wrong.
He stood by the balcony doors for a moment, observing silently her form. Her dark purple dress was pressed against her body by the winds, her white hair loosely swaying behind her, leaving the perfect skin of her neck to be exposed.
Her hands were held stable against the marble railing, and her eyes were peacefully closed. Without a care about the crashing waves, she stood like a mighty goddess as droplets were sprayed upon her form like blessings from the Gods themselves.
She looked mesmerizing, and at that moment, Tywin just found himself observing her, savouring her with his eyes in this perfect pose. He noticed how faintly her back had been arched and how perfect her skin looked under the moonlight and the faint light of the torches.
Eventually, she seemed to sense his presence, for her tempting pink lips curved upwards into her charming smirk. “Took you long enough to come, My Lord,” she said, paraphrasing his words from the Library.
This amused him, and he gained control of his body once again. With confident steps, he quickly covered the distance between them as he stood by her side, with green eyes looking ahead at the darkened horizon.
“I did not wish to disturb you, Princess. I do understand the need for some peace,” he said.
She kept the smirk and opened her unique amber eyes. “I did not doubt that. It is odd that we are back here but not as we had planned it,” she confessed, remembering how Tywin had promised to take her with him the next time he returned to his ancestral home.
“Indeed, but that does not mean we will not visit again,” he said, earning her attention as her eyes moved to keep him in her eyesight. “I have been thinking of a proposal that I wish to bring forth to the King, mayhap tomorrow while we break the morning fast.”
The word proposal alone made Visenya’s heart increase its beating rate, her usual logical mind rushing to emotional conclusions that were unlike her. Yet, she kept her composure and played along, reminding herself to be patient and ask for more details.
“A proposal between whom, if I may ask?”
Tywin not once stopped looking at the horizon, hands behind his back. “Between your nephew Rhaegar and my firstborn, Cersei. I can see she is infatuated with him, and I do believe an arrangement between our houses would be beneficial.”
Visenya did not hide her disappointment, especially once she realised that if such a wedding would take place, there would be no reason or even opening for them to wed as well. She mentally scolded herself for thinking so selfishly and forced her mind to think of it logically.
Rhaegar was a kind man, a little airhead and lost in clouds with his music, but he had potential. With her and Tywin’s guidance, he could make an exceptional King who would keep his subjects happy and the realm at Peace.
Cersei was an intelligent girl who was very beautiful and young. Their children would be unique, coming from two of the most powerful houses in Westeros. They would have intelligence but beauty, truly admirable and envied by many.
Visenya could see Cersei becoming a great mother and a good queen, with the right husband by her side and the right upbringing.
“I believe the idea has been well thought,” the Princess said after a prolonged silence. Her eyes moved to look forward. “Mayhap Jaime could become Rhaegar’s squire as well”, she suggested, making him turn his head to look at her. “I noticed him during the journey, and I can see my nephew left a good impression on him. He is a kind boy, and Rhaegar would look after him while teaching him like he had been taught,” she suggested, slightly turning her head to look at him without straining her eyes.
She saw how his lips stretched to form the faintest of approving smiles, a sight so rare that even she did not see it often. She felt proud to know her idea had pleased him enough to grace her with such a smile, and then, for a moment, her eyes stayed a little too long upon his lips before forcing herself to look at other parts of his face, to hide and prevent any wrong thoughts.
That small movement of her eyes seemed to have drawn Tywin's attention for he tilted his head faintly forward and stared her down with curiosity but slight lust as well. He could see her eyes romancing, trying not to settle on the part of his face too long, and he found enjoyment in that.
The prideful and emotionless Dragon Princess was not as mighty as many believed, or she was not when she was lately in his presence.
There was something about the way her eyes moved, and how her pink lips had parted, that drew his interest. While pale, her cheeks had the faintest flush, and her chest moved with each silent breath she took. His eyes lowered towards her but quickly focused on her face, temptations invading his mind at an alarming rate.
However, that small moment when things could have escalated was ruined by someone's presence.
"Tywin!" a female voice called him, quickly making the two of them take a long step away from one another. Eventually, the owner of the woman appeared by the balcony doors. "Oh, I am sorry. Looks like I interrupted something of importance," the woman said.
Visenya turned to face her, quickly taking notice of her appearance. She was slightly older than her but shorter, her body having increased in size, but so did her bossom, being perhaps the biggest the Princess had ever seen. She did, however, have very long golden hair and bright green eyes, making one quickly realize whose family she was related to.
"Genna," Tywin called the woman's name and cleared his throat. "May I introduce you to Princess Visenya. Princess, this is my younger sister, Genna Lannister," he continued.
Upon realizing who the exotic woman was, Genna gave a small bow, but it was rather clumsy due to the alcohol she had ingested during the feast. The goblet in her hand swayed slightly as she leaned on the door frame. "It is a pleasure, Princess. Please, do not let me ruin your moment," she continued, dismissively moving her hand.
Visenya immediately cleared her throat and composed herself. "It is getting late, Lord Hand. I believe it is time to retire. I will see you tomorrow," she said and started heading towards the door without missing a beat. "Lady Genna", she greeted the blond woman with a small nod of her head and walked back into the castle.
Once she had left them behind, Genna cleared her throat and composed herself. "I did not have you to be the bold one and draw women out in the balcony, Tywin", she said, her voice no longer slurring, and any other sign of her drunkness was long gone.
Tywin narrowed his eyes at her, clearly displeased by her tricks. Yet again, she might as well have saved him from an embarrassing moment or crossing the line from which there was no return. "You are lucky I am not in the mood to argue with you, Genna."
The woman did not seem to be intimidated by his glare or the sharpness of his voice. "You definitely were in the mood to cross the line with the Princess. You are lucky no one else saw you, although I must say..." she licked her lips and smirked. "She is quite a catch. I cannot say I blame you and neither most men that had their eyes on her during the feast."
Her brother did not answer and instead walked towards the doors. "Goodnight, Genna," was all he said. He continued walking, leaving his younger and annoying sister behind him, his mind troubled by thoughts and emotions.
(FREE) SPEECH. IF YOU SAY SO!
There is a Spanish saying which says, suggest or recommends that you always give the reasons to drunks, crazies and children. It cozies up to STICKS AND STONES CAN BREAK MY BONES, BUT WORDS DON'T BOTHER, which in itself can become more infuriating if you are in for a fight. I remember, among the many things I write, being criticized for something I wrote, and this person came back to me and complaint verbally and somewhat aggressively. I answered back apologizing and remarking that sometimes I have the gift of being terribly stupid. She was so surprised with my answer and confessed that she in all her lifetime (she was of considerable age) has not ever had such a reply. That was that and nothing came out of it. Two persons can't fight if one of the two refuses to fight. However, as George Carlin might say, the other person who wants to fight is going to beat the shit out of you.
