Letting duolingo get a monopoly on language learning was a mistake
#like i remember going to the library as a teen to get Spanish workbooks and there were plenty of options#now it's slim pickings cuz and its absolutely connected with the rise of duolingo#like that statistic that duolingo loves to flaunt how more Americans learn languages on duolingo than in the public school system isn'tcute#it's incredibly concerning that it's acceptable that more people learn language on an app that isn't even all that affective than in school#like it doesn't teach you about the culture#it doesn't allow you to tailor your learning to what you need to know for your personal situation#langblr

I started using the app again because of this post just so I could try out the widget and wow you guys were right. I’m now worried about the language bird’s sanity.
Whaaaat is happening??
Duolingo has a home screen widget now so I was like sure why not.
So I didn’t notice until late in the day yesterday so that’s why the streak numbers are different… but the longer you go through the day without practicing the Duolingo owl gets more distressed
And then when I finally did a lesson….
I’m crying what is this Duo. What are we?

Fastest way to get me to do something is to make it in such a way where I know what the end goal/performance should be like + bonus points if it has clear and delimited subtasks
#having clear and defined tasks to complete awakens my gamer instinct#I looove quizzes where I have to improve and give right answers#I love learning facts in this way#other examples are the website I use to practice interval recognition and I guess duolingo for language learning#I get so so easily overwhelmed when there are too many choices big and small to make :/ see the project I have to turn in for an exam#I just need occasional external validation#my post#ah btw a few days ago my uni recognized my mobility credits <3#so now I only have 4 exams left ✌#hopefully 2 by the end of this exam session 🤞#it's technically 5 but one of these is a pass/fail one so atm I'm not that concerned + I plan to take care of it by the end of february#*sigh* apart from that I still feel a bit... detached from society and social settings#hopefully things get better as the year comes along#if I reach the end of the year still in this condition I'll look into it in a more serious way I guess
