Con seems like a really wonderful human being and I'm grateful he donated his voice to the cause during the OFMD craft fair auction, and the message the auction winner wrote for him to perform was really lovely. But it's super annoying how people conflate kind things Con does with Izzy's characterization when Izzy Hands the fictional character did not read or write that message and has nothing to do with this. I know to some degree we do this with every actor and tbh I find it lowkey annoying when people write modern AU Stede as being obsessed with cryptids and skinny jeans but at least that's just a goofy in-joke and doesn't CONTRADICT his actual characterization. Anyway get ready to roll your eyes at a lot of incoming trans ally Izzy takes

Joe Meek was a British music сreator, sound engineer and producer at late 1950s and early 1960s. He invented the concept of a recording studio and left more than two hundred compositions after him despite the fact he'd never written notes himself. The most well-known, Telstar (1962), became Top-1 in Britain and US soon after release, and afterwards - the sound symbol of the Cosmic Age. Joe, however, suffered from schizophrenia, unfair accusations of copyright infringement and country's homophobic laws. He commited suicide in 1967 in his studio at Holloway Road, 304.
Geoff Goddard was an English songwriter and composer who worked by Joe's side at 1960s. He recorded a number of singles, wrote songs and played keyboards for 'Telstar' and other Joe's productions. Maybe, Geoff was one of the few who trully comprehended Meek's vision. He left music behind after falling out with Joe and worked in the catering department of the University of Reading, Berkshire. In 1985, the earlier popular song 'Johnny Remember Me', written by him, got a cover by Marc Almon & Bronski Beat which had more then 300 000 copies sold.
In 2005 James Hicks and Nick Moran set a play 'Telstar' at the New Ambassadors Theatre, London, which was later adapted to a film 'Telstar: The Joe Meek Story' in 2008. Both the play and the film star Con o'Neill, making them one of the most deep and significant queer stories of the century beginning.

Okay but on a serious note Con O'Neill ate in these first few episodes and left no fucking crumbs. Last season we ended on deranged Izzy; now we have an Izzy realizing how toxic things can really get and WISHING he could go back to the days when he was the only proper pirate among muppets. And he's TRYING so damn hard and it would be so easy to play that in a cheesy or insincere manner, but we have Con O'Neill swinging for the fences, crying, begging for death, disheveled, trying to undo everything he did to get us all in this mess and failing and looking both miserable and delighted in his misery because he's getting what he thinks he deserves.
And YET we also get the subtle tear in the eye when Stede finds out what they really did to Ed. Like. You can feel how utterly heartbroken the man is just from a glimmer in the corner of his eye.
Love Izzy, hate Izzy, it really doesn't matter, not when he's played so magnificently by Con, and I salute him for everything he's doing in this campy gay pirate show.

Spare a thought for Con O'Neill who, for months, went to comic cons and had to listen to people telling him how important Izzy is to them, how they see themselves in him and how, if something bad happened to Izzy, they would be absolutely devastated. Man deserves an award.
