Does anybody remember when everybody was losing their minds over Brucewing and being all like omg how DARE Bruce do this AWFUL TERRIBLE THING to Dick!!!! Meanwhile if you actually read the comics Bruce was doing it because he was being genuinely thoughtful and caring and afterwards Dick just thought it was sweet and a little funny. Cuz I feel like that really says a lot about the way sections of the fandom approach comics especially wrt Bruce.

I was looking up a quote from my beloved "The Devil in the Dark" and damn, I'd forgotten it's so... uh. Well.
SPOCK: If so, if it is the only survivor of a dead race, to kill it would be a crime against science. KIRK: Mr. Spock, our mission is to protect this colony, to get the pergium moving again. This is not a zoological expedition. Maintain a constant reading on the creature. If we have to, we'll use phasers to cut our own tunnels. We'll try to surround it. I'm sorry, Mr. Spock, but I'm afraid the creature must die. SPOCK: I see no alternative myself, captain. It merely seems a pity.
KIRK: Mr. Spock. Capture it? I don't recall giving any such order. SPOCK: You did not, sir. I merely thought that if the opportunity arose— KIRK: I will lose no more men. The creature will be killed on sight and that's the end of it. SPOCK: Very well, sir.
KIRK: Mr. Spock, you are second in command. This will be a dangerous hunt. Either one of us by himself is expendable. Both of us are not. SPOCK: Captain, there are approximately one hundred of us engaged in this search, against one creature. The odds against you and I both being killed are 2,228.7 to 1. KIRK: 2,228.7 to 1? Those are pretty good odds, Mr. Spock. SPOCK: And they are of course accurate, captain. KIRK: Of course. Well, I hate to use the word, but logically, with those kind of odds, you might as well stay. But please stay out of trouble, Mr. Spock. SPOCK: That is always my intention, captain.
KIRK: Explain. SPOCK: Only a theory I have. [rocks fall] SPOCK: Captain? Are you all right? Jim? Jim!
SPOCK: The creature is in this area. I'll take a lifeform reading. KIRK: It's not necessary, Mr. Spock. I know exactly where the creature is. SPOCK: Where, captain? KIRK: Ten feet away from me. SPOCK: Kill it, captain, quickly. KIRK: It's not making any threatening moves, Spock. SPOCK: You don't dare take the chance, captain. Kill it. KIRK: I thought you were the one who wanted it kept alive, captured if possible. SPOCK: Jim, your life is in danger. You can't take the risk. KIRK: It seems to be waiting. SPOCK: I remind you it's a proven killer. I'm on my way. Spock out.
SPOCK: What Chief Vanderberg said about the Horta is exactly what the mother Horta said to me. She found humanoid appearance revolting, but she thought she could get used to it. MCCOY: Oh, she did, did she? Now tell me, did she happen to make any comment about those ears? SPOCK: Not specifically, but I did get the distinct impression she found them the most attractive human characteristic of all. I didn't have the heart to tell her that only I have— KIRK: She really liked those ears? SPOCK: Captain, the Horta is a remarkably intelligent and sensitive creature, with impeccable taste. KIRK: Because she approved of you? SPOCK: Really, captain, my modesty— KIRK: Does not bear close examination, Mr. Spock.

So if I'm understanding this correctly:
Fabian is attracted to a floating hand mirror, whose only appearance outside of being the physical object of a mirror is a foggy reflection of his own face, just with a different voice, and her entire personality (that he's been able to see) is only composed of traits that he has literally projected onto her, and he became particularly interested when the reflection of himself in the lady-mirror insinuated that she wanted a "papa" to protect and take care of her.

A bit of community service work to repay his third chance leads to Hien witnessing Zenos' own special brand of weird.
#ffxiv#sketch#digital art#zenos yae galvus#hien rijin#adventurer zenos#I have finally sat down to learn how to draw the porcupine + his outfit and I will now unabashedly misuse this new power#aka stuff for the au amongst other things#where hien reluctantly gives zenos a chance to prove himself#only to find out hes surprisingly efficient with a strong sense of work ethic- *if* he actually cares about the work hes doing#not at all anticipating that might involve him turning partially into shinryu just to get a bit more utility#and that to redisperse the aether into the surroundings zenos is very carefully making sure the laser is not going to hit anything#I also like to think that once zenos starts learning to respect more than WoL that he is just shockingly polite to people#even if that means when hes listening he is just ***Staring***#->Lyse+Hien+Yugiri also getting unabashedly praised- Lyse especially- when he learns more about Ghimlyt#following in WoL's footsteps I like to think he'd *try* to form good relationships with leaders and people he meets-#-even if much of it involves attempted murder towards him only for him to go “hey- I can't die. let me do something else for it”#also completely unrelated but I just want minstrel's ballad:shinyru to be the canon version of the fight#I adore how absolutely unhinged that fight is#dog farming meant my entire fc got to sprint across his back and sit on his shoulders before he lobbed us all off#because he was stubborn#and hated dropping the mount for any of us

Kate is such an interesting foil to antiheroes and conflicted superheroes.
Because here's the thing. Kate is Good. She is a Good Hero. She Does Good Things. She does not do Evil Things. The general perception of her is good. Dependable. Reliable. Level-headed. Welcoming. And she is all of those things!
She wholeheartedly loves being a superhero. She doesn't worry about the morality of it, or grapple with the power that gives her, or the weight of that responsibility (usually). She just goes out and does it.
But she also canonically shoots people in the fucking throat, and unless she's hitting the ONE bone in front of your throat, that's not going to end well for you. She's effectively set fire to a mansion. She used a grenade launcher to take down part of NYC's power grid. She stabbed Wade Wilson in the chest for scaring her!!!
This woman is fucking insane.
Like. If you remove one moral block from the jenga tower of Kate's psyche, the whole thing falls. And honestly, that brick is just the Young Avengers. Best case scenario with no YA, she becomes a vapid heiress. Worst case scenario she decides she's fuckin done with the cops and becomes a very violent vigilante.
And I don't think that's a stretch because I think that's already in her! She could easily become a brooding angsty vigilante. She's physically and mentally capable of doing vast amounts of harm to others (physical and mental harm)
I think that's why I love the dynamic of her and Wade. Wade sees that about her. That she not only can do great violence but that she a. Chooses not to and b. Needs an outlet for it
And she's not scared of that part of her. I don't know how much she consciously realizes that part of her exists? But if she does I don't think she even thinks it's something to be controlled or fought. It's just a part of her that's not Nice and pretty rich girls should, above all else, be Nice.
(Kate Bishop is not nice. She's good. There's a difference.)
Maybe it's pragmatism. She sees what needs to be done and does it. It's either never acting on impulse or acting on impulse all the time. And just because she knows she shouldn't do the thing, because it's morally wrong, doesn't mean she's not capable of it.
Idk just been thinking about this lately

polly almost killing linda - the wife arthur abused - and being super non-chalant about is crazy to me. i genuinely think she wasn't for a single second lingering on the fact that this woman was desperate enough to kill him (given that she herself was once a woman desperate enough to kill the man who abused her). insane amount of mental gymnastics imho, but it makes sense that arthur would be protected like that by her, and that she feels this way about him (if one thing is true, arthur's always been very admiring and adoring of polly)

heroes of olympus trc au
frank as the rich academic kid searching for an ancient roman emperor to cope with the gaping emptiness inside him and the fear that his life is worthless and that he shouldn’t be alive. reyna as his roommate. after her dad died under mysterious circumstances and her surrogate mom circe went to prison she’s kind of going off the rails and also has a buzzcut and tattoos and a vintage car (frank has his grandma’s volvo) and an older sister she hates. she can also manifest her dreams into the real world but that’s book 2 shit. hazel is living alone and working several jobs bc she’s on scholarship and dealing with medical issues and ptsd due to past abuse but its fine :). she’s fine :). she and frank are kind of in love but not admitting it and its not going to end well. she also might be psychic and/or deceased but doesn’t know it yet. leo is living at the waystation with his foster moms who are psychics but he is not psychic, nor is he a scholarship kid even though he’s a genius bc of his record as a runaway but its fine :). he’s not angry or jealous :). he’s fine with staying in this town forever with no clear purpose :). he’s also fated to kill his true love if he kisses him. nico is frank and reyna’s roommate. they don’t remember why he lives there or know a lot about him or remember him when he’s not around. bc he’s so unmemorable. no other reason :(
