OOOOO YALL BEEN UP TO SOME GOOD SHIIIT
totally behind the reveal gone bad/ don't trust adults thing
Imagine they eventually send bats over, who yeah, is big dark and scary but the best with noticing little details/ very very very good with judging character. And comes to kneel where danny is on his phone playing candy crush. Danny ignores him but batman can tell he's watching of course, notices the sweat building and the way he scooches a little further away, still pressed against the summoning barrier.
Batman sighs like "can you tell me what you're doing?' he nodded to the phone.
"compartmentalizing." A short, subdued voice. Very different from the screeching demon sounds from earlier. Could still be part of the manipulation though.
"what do you mean by that?"
"pretending I'm not here obviously, what do you mean what do I mean?"
"... If you would just negotiate with justice league dark over there, we will let you return to your realm."
That made Danny snap, and he suddenly looked up to batman, looking straight into his masked eyes. "Oh, you mean if I just do exactly what you tell me to? Yeah right. You guys think you're the good guys, which is really much worse than just admitting you're a bad guy."
He glared. Bruce was startled.
"we are here to ensure the.protection of our world."
"by destroying being not from your world? Yeah, been there done that. Gets old. Fuck off, I don't need your propaganda"
This was devolving fast.
Constantine stepped in, and Danny flinched (he could feel the multiple contracts and enchantments on the man, this man dealt with demons and bartered in souls. Danny didn't want to be anywhere near him. And.he we trapped).
"we just need to clock the new king and ensure entities like you won't be passing through to wreck our dimension"
Dannys nostrils flared. "Entities" he spit the word out "like myself only have access to this world when YOU pull us through. We don't make ourselves" someone had to kill them, went unsaid.
"untrue mate, ever heard of demons?"
"ever heard of minding your own business?"
They all blinked at the child-like response. They still didn't believe he was a child though.
"plus, demons aren't ghosts. I really feel like someone like you should know that already."
Zatanna stepped over, and Danny impulsively shot out an ecto blast. it collided with the barrier harmlessly. None of them even flinched
"you're the ghost king. You have control over the dead"
"have you ever met a dead person? They have a nasty habit of not giving 2 shits who's in charge, actually"
"Listen kid, that binding circle you're in means you have to listen to us, acrually" Mr lung cancer spoke again. "We won't release you until we've come to an understanding."
Danny paled, looking between them. He pulled out his phone again, sitting back to rock back and forth. He definitely definitely wasn't thinking about.his parents, how they were never going to let him go-- strawberry down, that's one row gone--
Then a green portal opened somewhere behind him and he heard British guy curse and several other 'heroes' instrinctually react.
Danny felt his shoulders relax as the spectre speeder came barelling through, Dani and Val on their heel.
A short fight ensued, which consisted of a great number of very inappropriate name calling and insults. Dani in particular caused a lot of damage and we as fast enough to keep the others from catching her. A goth girl has come out of the vehicle to run over to Danny, pulling out a green and orange gun before shooting the edge of the circle and ran to Danny as they hugged. Danny was definitely still shaking. they turned to leave, to be met with a dark and looking Bruce.
"let me go"
"we need information from you"
So had his parents. They needed to know how they worked, after all. For research.
"I said. Let me GO"
Danny let out a wail. All of the heroes dropped, his friends having devices for blocking it. They all loaded up and boom portaled outta there.
The league members all compared notes later and agreed none of the entities looked physically older than 15. But that couldn't be true. Right?
DP x DC summoning
So a classic staple of this crossover is some poor schmuck trying to summon Pariah and getting Danny
How this usually goes is Danny either flexes on them or nopes out of there
So in Hellblazer one of the things you want to summon a powerful otherworldly entity is not only their ritual, but their name. The ritual brings them there, the name is used as part of the binding that provides a summoner protection against the thing they just summoned
So just a thought
Danny has that happen a couple times, he’s summoned and he just nopes out of there and either assumes it’s just a halfa thing or just doesn’t notice it’s weird
So imagine the first time someone actually properly summons him
Be it Zatana or John who have or course heard about the change in management and have properly bound the spirit they’ve summoned. Hell maybe it’s someone like Felix Faust and he’s been summoned by a villain
Danny just peace signs and then immediately flies right into an invisible wall and nearly breaks his nose

One under-discussed conclusion that must be drawn from the period of student encampments last spring is the absolute necessity of linking the student movement(s) with the worker's movement. They were always limited in the realistic achievements they could reach -getting universities to divest from Israeli institutions and companies- and very often also limited in the stated scope of each encampment. This is the manifestation of two problems; the excessive fragmentation and localism which plagues student movements in the imperial core, and the comparmentalization away from the broader worker's movement.
Focusing on the second aspect, students are not a separate class of people with separate interests. They are the children of the working class, many of them forced to work while studying, and all of them conditioned by the functions of higher education within capitalism; to create the hyperspecialiced educated workers demanded by capital, and to ensure the reproduction of the dominant ideology. The only substantial differenciation of students from the rest of their class is the distinct forms of socialization, receptiveness, and in general, the organization of their day-to-day lives. From this reality it would then follow the understanding that specific student organizations are useful and often necessary, but only if it is also understood that it's just a secondary (but also important) action inside the broader stage of worker's organization
If there had been a unified student movement capable of striking with a single fist that also understood its connection with their own class, the encampments could have been framed within a bigger and much more effective course of action. The negotiations and pressure for specific divestments would not have been the end-all-be-all of political achievement, but another facet in the internationalist struggle against genocidal settler-colonialism. Instead of drowning in the shallow pool of its own endogamy and being severely subjected to the comings and goings of student mobilization cycles, it could have supported itself on the more stable (although not free from cycles) workers' movement as well as being an occasional crutch for it.

I just wanted to say, yesterday I sat down and binge-read all your Timkon fics, as well as most of the WIPS, and I BADLY want to write some now. I've never really written Tim, tho, since I'm more used to writing Jason. Do you have any tips, or bits of Tim and Kon characterization you consider especially important? (The WIP I've made on my head, if it helps, is (Daemon AU) comics!Tim ends up on Young Justice!Cartoon universe, and he's very, very weirded out by how different Kon is to Conner, and very pissed off that this Conner gets a Daemon while his Kon doesn't have one.)
tbh it kinda depends on where you're trying to go with the fic idea, I'd say? Also why Conner DOES have a daemon and Kon doesn't, probably. Also-also, does Conner even actually have a daemon or is Tim just confused about Wolf or something.
Generally speaking, though, the thesis of Tim is that he is a ride-or-die guy who really fucking COMMITS when he makes a decision. Sure, he'll stalk Batman. Sure, he'll introduce himself to Nightwing and tell him he knows his secret identity. Sure, he'll put on the suit Jason died in to go save Batman and Nightwing from their own stupid selves. Sure, he'll be Batman's emotional support sidekick and lead Young Justice and the Teen Titans and try to clone his dead best friend and run around the planet solo to save Bruce from the timestream. Why not! SOMEBODY'S gotta do it!!
"Somebody's gotta do it" is a lot of Tim's motivation, from what I can tell, haha. He also comparmentalizes really well, is a very talented and skilled detective as his defining Robin skill, uses a bo staff as his signature weapon after convincing Lady Shiva to train him and was the dude who was smart enough to add pants to the Robin suit, and one of his more iconic lines is I think Cassie going, "you lied to Starfire?" and him answering, "I lie to Batman". Which he does. Frequently. Frequently and a LOT-ly. To be fair, Bruce is also a fucking liar, so he deserves it. Tim, however, actually has friends he will ADMIT are his friends without having to be waterboarded into it during an active apocalypse-level crisis.
The boy has no chill. He DISGUISES his lack of chill, but it is fucking nonexistent and the ONLY reason he looks "reasonable" is because his besties are the teen idol superclone with limited life experience and Stephanie "welp my dad's gone supervillain so I'm gonna go kick him in the dick with my intermediate gymnastics" Brown. And then there's Cassie "I'm just gonna ask Zeus for superpowers, natch" Sandsmark.
Also Bart. Also Bart is a thing. Bart is SO MUCH a thing.
So yeah, Tim is a full-stop no-holds-barred insane person, he's just also a better liar than any of his friends. Like so, so much better. AT LEAST THEY HAVE SUPERPOWERS, TIM. AT LEAST THEY'VE GOT THAT. He figured out Bruce's secret identity at NINE 'cuz he went to the circus as a toddler and Dick Grayson's flips were just that sick, and then just didn't tell anybody for FOUR FUCKING YEARS. Four fucking YEARS!! ACTUAL FUCKING YEARS. He just didn't think it was relevant, I guess?!!? So instead he just stalked them with his camera and took cool pics. So many pics. So, so many pics. And he skateboards.
Also he and Kon fucking could NOT stand each other at first because Kon was used to being a solo act and didn't want to answer to anyone else and Tim lacked the ability to convince him to listen to him and they just had VERY different personalities and priorities, and also for a little while in there Match was fucking shit up by pretending to BE Kon, and frankly it's a fucking miracle Tim and Kon didn't kill each other before they ever got to be Titans together, the way they totally failed to get along for the first YJ run.
Seriously, I think they actually had a literal fucking fistfight on Apokolips once, I think that ACTUALLY happened. In the middle of a literal WAR that happened. Tim. Tim, you KNOW better, buddy.

ok i need to give you all my current tgs theory because i feel insane.
so. basically. i think we’re getting into the Cool And Fun part of the j&h adaptation where jekyll gets hit with a surprise transformation. this is the groundwork for it and it’s gonna be. Bad. when it hits, but i digress.
i’m gonna say point blank i don’t think lanyon accidentally had sex with hyde. i think there’s a lot of weird shit happening in jekyll’s mind palace rn, and i think the boundaries between him and hyde are starting to fully collapse. we know jekyll is worryingly good at compartmentalizing, well before hyde was ever even in the picture, and he wants to find a clear divide where he ends and hyde begins--to find what hyde “really is,” if he isn’t pure evil like he originally thought (see when jekyll got sent to the Mind Palace in chapter nine).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
but now, with jekyll unpacking all these things he’s suppressed, acting on these repressed desires he’s had for lanyon, he’s getting into what he’s cut off from himself as “the stuff hyde does.” he’s un-comparmentalizing, and in turn he’s taking down this very strong, clear-cut dichotomy he’s had between himself and hyde--and his body is having a physical response. and that’s not even getting to where we left off with hyde, with him going all heat death of the universe in jekyll’s brain. that’s definitely doing. something. i don’t know what but it can’t be good.
anyways, tl;dr, i don’t think this appearance of green eyed jekyll is hyde doing some sinister takeover to seize control again or to sabotage the rekindling of jekyll and lanyon’s relationship, it’s literally just muscle memory.

I think I understood another key with which to read Shizune's route, in particular her bad ending:
Hisao cheats on Misha if he gets overwhelmed by Shizune's personality.
Shizune means well, as she genuinely enjoys making people happy, but she is a controlling, overbearing person. This is the core of her character. I pointed out how she is the only girl who, the Saturday before the festival, doesn't wait for Hisao to come to her, but instead she is the one physically dragging Hisao out of his room. This is what she does: she drags people into her life, and then takes control, because otherwise she's not quite sure of how to keep people nearby.
This is not a good thing. Misha shows why it's not a good thing. Shizune kept Misha nearby despite her heartache - of course because she liked her as a friend, not just out of selfish reasons, but her "comparmentalizing" mentality still caused the poor girl pain.
If you choose to "comfort" Misha, we get this line:
After all, I've only had sex once before, and I was restrained to a chair. This time, I'm in control, like I'd wished then.
When Shizune and Hisao had sex at her place, she seized complete control. She tied him to a chair, which is the equivalent of gagging him, and then rode him, without him being able to do anything. Hisao noted that she seemed to alternate between aggressiveness and naiveté, like a girl pretending to be a woman: most likely, she also saw this act as a challenge to win. The thing is that Hisao didn't sound fully on board:
NARRATOR: "I wonder exactly when it was that I started being attracted to her. Not just attracted to her physically, but drawn to her. And, I wonder why. She's pretty, but then, also very combative. Not just that, but she seems to like being that way. The way she's acting now, however, and at other times, doesn't really fit that image. I'm starting to think that maybe her tying my hands might have been for more reasons than just the most obvious." NARRATOR: "Still, that aggressiveness that she flashes around as comfortably as a business card is real. I don't know whether or not that kind of attitude could be considered dangerous. If it is, I wonder what kind of person that makes me. It was probably the first week I was here. A week doesn't sound so long when I think about it, but at the time it did. Even though I pretty much thought my days were numbered that week, it still seemed to go by so slowly. Even if she can't hear me, it puts me at ease. I started to realize that I didn't have that much to complain about. But there's still... Well, never mind."
Hisao's sentiment is pretty much "it's nice, but". The last line might refer to his hesitation at having been put in this position of submission, which he decides to brush off, but still lingers.
He wanted control. He wanted at the very least a higher degree of freedom. The freedom Shizune didn't afford him, because Shizune has seized control of his life, and the only time Hisao is even allowed to make a choice, it's when she's nowhere to be seen.
And he can choose to break free from Shizune's control in the worst way possible, getting closer to the less overbearing Misha. Remember: the route falsely implies that Misha is crushing on Hisao, before the big reveal that she's actually interested in Shizune.
At this point, whether Hisao slept with Misha or not, Shizune realizes that she's been a bad friend and girlfriend for yanking people around, and she comes out with the grand plan of asking Hisao to cheer Misha up for her.
The branching point between good and bad ending is that in the latter, not only Misha never recovers, but Lilly shows up again.
This scene is mostly remembered for being a huge continuity error: what is she doing here, isn't she supposed to be in Scotland? That's true. But aside from this, it's interesting that Lilly has one last conversation with Hisao the moment his relationship with Shizune has started to irreversibly spiral.
This scene only exists for Lilly to voice Hisao's, and maybe the player's, thoughts about Shizune:
LILLY: "I wish you hadn't been so quick to join. I don't like the way Shizune runs the Student Council. Did you know that she scared off most of the old members? That is why I think she tries to surround herself with people who won't oppose her. And they don't. It's like a dependency bubble."
LILLY: "Is that so? Either way, there is no point in attempting to force them to make up. Always try to confront everything head-on is what Shizune would do, but it doesn't work in the real world. At some point, it's just being stubborn, not bravery or good intentions."
LILLY: "When I joined the Student Council, I thought it would just mean helping everything run smoothly and helping people out, like being the class representative. Instead, every day consisted of having Shizune stomp around, using Misha like a megaphone, to talk about how we had to outdo the last Student Council, and create more and more events, and make them increasingly larger."
HISAO: "Yeah, sure. The point is, I think I understand what it's all about now. You're really giving Shizune too much of a hard time." LILLY: "That might be true, but when it comes to how she treats individual people, she doesn't do very well." NARRATOR: "Unfortunately, that one is a little harder to argue."
It's all about Shizune's flaws. It's all about her abrasive personality, her stubborness. Lilly accuses her of wrapping herself in a dependancy bubble, of using Misha like a megaphone, and by the end, not even Hisao can defend her. He might understand Shizune's vision for the Student Council, but he has grown tired of everything Lilly has pointed out - after all, it's why he went behind her back, right?
And to an extent, he's right, because when things come to a breaking point, Shizune once again falls into her old selfishness: it's her who decides that she wants to be away from other people, because she has decided thar she's a terrible person who poisons every relationship of hers. Of course, Hisao really has no fucking right to call her selfish anymore, after what he did... but he does have a point. It's just sad under multiple angles.
Of course, you can also choose to see his decision to "comfort" Misha in another way: him succumbing to passivity once again.
"As much as I pretend to protest, I've allowed things to come to this point. Even though I knew so far ahead of when she actually came out with it that this was what she was getting at. At the very least, I was okay with this outcome. If I needed any more proof, it's simple: I still haven't turned her away. I could have at any point, and it was wrong of me not to do it sooner, but now, not doing so is something beyond simple carelessness."
Hisao goes along with having sex with Misha because welp, might as well at this point! She wants this, so sure, why not.
So in summary, Hisao pushing Misha away in the good ending might be seen as 1) him taking a decision without Shizune's influence at all, 2) him respecting both Misha and Shizune enough to do the right thing, without any resentment or lingering crush getting in the way.
Sadly I wish I had more to say about Shizune's good ending, because I like her route, but that ending has little to do with her as a character and it's more about the theme of graduating and moving on. It is to note, of course, that if you do get the good ending, Hisao is rewarded with another sex scene with Shizune, and this time he's able to gain the control he wanted, the two being finally equals. And at least Shizune is able to recognize her flaws without pushing her friends away, because she had proof that they care about her and she has a positive impact on them.
Shizune's route is fun to analyze. It doesn't have the major feels, and most of the complaints against it make sense, but reading between the lines was the intent and personally I have a lot of fun with it. It helps that Shizune is a very well written character, reasonably flawed but still compelling. Kind of a shame that the bad ending is better written than the good ending, though.

" Err.... "
Tumblr media
" Well, I mean the stuff I hear in school is.... not so good... right. I mean not just Nero-- err, you, I mean-- but the other emperors were all some level of ...kind of out there if you know what I mean."
Eiden gives an awkward laugh. She seemed pretty... normal, all things considered but they say appearance can be deceiving and all that.
" Err but well.... I'd rather judge how you're currently? So I guess if you're not planning to take the island over or something well... "
the look on his face is evident enough, nero couldn't help but giggle. any person nowadays always have the same reaction when she introduces herself, usually with disbelief that she's a woman...one the other hand, it's always just awkward. most people know the history of nero claudius, so saber is more than used to such reactions.

You're so right. the sex industry is lucrative and fast money. Since the Du Lacs were months from bankruptcy an honest business was not going to cut it. He even says that his little corner grocery stores weren't making enough. And I'll bet getting that kind of big money that fast while also being the token/pet black was addictive.
he needed to get rich fast cuz his family was also unaware of how close to bankruptcy they were. i wouldnt say he liked being the token black person more than he liked the power n psychosexual performance of controlling what these rich white men have sexual access to. “the product was desire” his modern self says. and he was the plug. re: his fixation on acquiring the fairplay salloon in ep1-2 is motivated by that & etc etc etc. ep1 when lestat is like “u made me buy a townhouse in the quarter” louis is like “i know men of my race look the same to u ppl but i aint sell u no house” & as soon as he becomes a vampire in ep2 he kills the assessor (?) for calling him a “good negro”. lestat is a french white man he knows little about here other than this guy has more things than me & hes feeling up on lily while staring at me. i wanna be him , kill him, and REDACTED by him. it unnerved him bc lestat was likening him to lily in that moment of sexual tension. translating lestat’s sentence, snarking at him off the jump, then being mesmerized by him not to put my ship goggles on [for a canon ship ik lol] is a rly gr8 way to set up the lxl dynamic n how louis operates. show louis is someone with sum i deem interpersonal racial pride. he interacts with his particular black classed community of his era n shows a perfectly respectable face in the eyes of the black church, his baby sister w the tickets up the garvey line, but everybody know where that money come from& r perfectly fine eating off its benefits. louis strategizing to get ahead at the expense of the black ‘collective’ outside of his immediate network. claudia would be someone outside of that as a poor black girl. shes the type of girl louis couldve .. well. lets just say, the fact that louis saved claudia in the midst of the race riot n losing his family , their shared tie of being made immortal by lestat & decades of living with lestat brought this temporary show of solidarity in the murder plot btwn lou+clauds that otherwise may have not have been there had claudia & louis met in a diff situation n show potential to go a lot of places in parts of s2 when lestat is out the picture. anyways. louis is not a self loathing black man n he hates being the token, but he was hardly a paragon of racial solidarity in s1. n he was always aware that his privileges were extremely conditional & dependent on how much of himself he was able to comparmentalize in situations where he did not have the upper hand and had to put aside his pride. what better to set up a certain kind of person whod favor eternal life, than a suicidal bougie boule opportunist of a black gay man whos aspects of himself all existed on different bookshelves.. who had to lie about his family’s financial condition to them, who tries to maintain this double life even with newly bestowed immortality. hes not grovelling at tom or fenwick’s feet, he plays the game to stay afloat but despises having to smile in their face. thats why when hes a vampire & the laws r discriminating against him hes so much more transparent in showing how he feels about them. all that pentup aggression he felt as the only black man in those rooms is the fuel for why he gored fenwick& ripped up toms jaw. i think 1x01 louis was actually at a breaking point but 1x02-beginning of 1x03 b4 the vampire starvation shit louis was rly feeling himself when the dough was rolling in. he has the fairplay salloon, he has lestat, he can ‘control’ what white people have sexual access to. but all that crumbles…

Ugh your feelings are so so valid. My mental health has been so so bad as well and when I try to talk to others they say to balance how much of the news I consume and it’s like haha no you’re an asshole! I truly envy people who can comparmentalize all of this and convince themselves they’re not being selfish and “looking out for their own mental health”. It feels very isolating.
yeah exactly it's truly hard to balance that because even tho yes i do feel bad mentally i don't wanna be unaware of the news especially because i don't wanna be ignorant especially that's not who i am and i feel like especially with music it's hard to enjoy it the more zionists i find in the industry and so there are things we have to adapt and it's not me trying to make a big deal out of this because at the end of the day my mental health is not as important as what is going on in the world but then it's not like i can help feeling this way

I do really like the idea that Alfie and Tommy fucked and had their deep and meaningful connection in a world where Tommy also has all his on-screen deep and meaningful connections. And that they're happening at the same time, not as serial-monogamy. It's satisfyingly messy.
Tommy's intense mental comparmentation of his experiences as well as his transactional framing would certainly lend itself to him getting one thing from Alfie and another thing from Grace or Lizzie, as he does with Jessie, with sex workers, seeing no issue or conflict with how he feels for any of them at any point in time. Because they are not the same and do not intersect and won't even encounter each other in any way.

My favorite part of this paternity drama so far is that Trina's priorities are her and Taggert. That's organic and makes the most sense. This is the girl who was getting up in the face of big bad Cyrus in the name of Taggert, she loves her dad fiercely.
Taggert is also far too calm which makes me think there was a part of him that always wondered but he never wanted it confirmed. That would weirdly put him in a similar position as Portia but if that's the case, I think he should have felt a lot weirder about her rekindling things with Curtis. So it could just be that Taggert is comparmentalizing his feelings because his focus is on keeping his daughter calm and getting her off the "identity crisis" ledge.
Either way, they've been backburnering the bond of Trina and Taggert for a clunky, poorly written and forced bond between Trina and Curtis. I'm glad they switched that up for this reveal and she's firmly in Taggert's corner. I hope this story marks the end of Trina biting her tongue for Curtis' ego
