The Tri-State Region is one metropolitan area, but Newark and NYC fought to give Amazon the biggest incentive to build their HQ2. If NYC regional railroads did a better job connecting the metropolitan area, perhaps counties (31 in the MSA) and municipalities (782!) wouldn't feel the need to compete in a race to the bottom and citizens wouldn't protest the deep subsidization of an immensely profitable corporation, causing the Queens proposal to collapse a few years ago. The Northeast Corridor already exists between Sunnyside and Newark (near both the Amazon HQ2 proposals), and it isn't impossible to create seamless passenger service between the sites and better connect the region of 20+ people.
