Unlocking Opportunities: A Comprehensive Guide to Community Access Support Services
In today’s diverse and interconnected world, every individual deserves the chance to engage fully in their community. For people with disabilities, accessing social, educational, and professional opportunities can sometimes be challenging. That’s where community access support services come into play. These services are designed to break down barriers and provide the necessary support for full community participation. In this blog post, we’ll explore what community access support services are, how they work, and why they are crucial for fostering inclusivity.
What Are Community Access Support Services?
Community access support services encompass a broad range of assistance designed to help individuals with disabilities engage in everyday activities and participate in their communities. These services aim to ensure that everyone, regardless of their abilities, has the opportunity to enjoy the same social, educational, and professional experiences as anyone else.
Types of Community Access Support Services
**1. Transportation Assistance: Transportation is often a significant barrier for people with disabilities. Community access support services may include funding for accessible vehicles, ride-sharing programs, or public transport adaptations. These services help individuals reach workplaces, educational institutions, and social events with greater ease.
**2. Personal Support Services: Personal support services involve assistance with daily activities such as personal care, meal preparation, and household chores. This support enables individuals to live independently while participating in community activities and events.
**3. Assistive Technology: Assistive technology includes devices and software that help individuals with disabilities perform tasks more easily. This might include speech-to-text software, hearing aids, or mobility aids. These technologies are essential for enabling effective communication, learning, and mobility.
**4. Educational Support: Educational support services help individuals with disabilities access learning opportunities. This might involve tailored tutoring, special accommodations in the classroom, or assistive learning tools. The goal is to provide equal access to educational resources and support academic success.
**5. Employment Support: Employment support services assist individuals in finding and maintaining meaningful work. This can include job coaching, workplace modifications, and advocacy to ensure that workplaces are inclusive and accommodating.
**6. Social and Recreational Activities: Participation in social and recreational activities is crucial for personal development and well-being. Support services in this area might include assistance with joining clubs, attending events, or engaging in hobbies. These activities help build social connections and enhance quality of life.
How Do Community Access Support Services Work?
Community access support services typically operate through a combination of government programs, non-profit organizations, and private providers. Here’s a general overview of how these services are accessed and utilized:
**1. Assessment and Planning: The first step involves assessing the individual’s needs and goals. This is usually done through a formal assessment process conducted by a support coordinator or case manager. Based on this assessment, a personalized support plan is developed.
**2. Funding and Resources: Depending on the service, funding may come from government programs (such as the National Disability Insurance Scheme in Australia), grants, or private sources. Resources are allocated based on the individual’s support plan and needs.
**3. Service Delivery: Services are delivered by trained professionals or organizations specializing in community support. This could involve direct assistance, providing equipment, or coordinating with other service providers.
**4. Monitoring and Evaluation: Regular reviews and evaluations ensure that the support services are meeting the individual’s needs effectively. Adjustments to the support plan may be made based on feedback and changing circumstances.
Why Are Community Access Support Services Important?
**1. Promoting Independence: These services empower individuals with disabilities to live independently and participate fully in their communities. By providing the necessary support, individuals can pursue their goals and aspirations without being held back by physical or logistical barriers.
**2. Enhancing Quality of Life: Access to community activities, education, and employment greatly contributes to a person’s overall well-being and quality of life. Engaging in meaningful activities and social interactions promotes mental and emotional health.
**3. Fostering Inclusivity: Community access support services play a crucial role in promoting inclusivity. By ensuring that public spaces, services, and opportunities are accessible to all, these services help build a more equitable and compassionate society.
**4. Building Stronger Communities: When everyone has the opportunity to participate fully, communities become more diverse, vibrant, and connected. Community access support services contribute to stronger, more resilient communities where everyone’s contributions are valued.
Getting Started with Community Access Support Services
If you or someone you know could benefit from community access support services, the first step is to reach out to local organizations, support coordinators, or government agencies that specialize in disability services. They can provide information on available resources, eligibility criteria, and how to apply for support.
Resources to Explore:
National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS): Provides funding and support for individuals with disabilities in Australia.
Local Disability Support Services: Offers information on local and regional support services.
Assistive Technology Programs: Provides information on available assistive technologies and funding options.
Conclusion
Community access support services are essential in creating an inclusive society where everyone can participate and thrive. By providing targeted support and resources, these services break down barriers and open up a world of opportunities for individuals with disabilities. Let’s continue to champion inclusivity and work together to ensure that every community member has the chance to lead a fulfilling and connected life.

Last week, Johnson & Johnson agreed not to enforce their secondary patents on bedaquiline in most countries after a long public pressure campaign by TB activists around the world.
(A special shoutout to Nandita Venkatesan and Phumeza Tisilethe, the two women who led the charge to prevent the patent evergreening in India, which is the only reason generic bedaquiline is in production.)
But the problem of patent evergreening is everywhere--as this NYT story reports, Gilead intentionally denied people access to a drug they knew to be less toxic than alternatives because it wanted to extend its monopoly on HIV drugs for as long as possible.
Similarly, Johnson & Johnson has been intentionally denying people access to affordable bedaquiline, even though they knew they could make a profit even if they decreased the price by 65%.
What's especially galling is that both these companies benefit tremendously from public investment (bedaquiline research was funded primarily by the public), and so we end up paying for it twice--once to develop it, and once to have it available to the sick.
This is infuriating, and it is resulting in the real impoverishment and death of so many people. How does it end? With better governance and regulation. In this respect, India can be a model for us--their courts have done a much better job than U.S. ones of determining what really deserves to be patented and for how long. I'm hopeful that we can learn from the, but disgusted by this ongoing horror.

abortion bans in any way - whether they make exceptions or none at all - is the state getting away with raping you. forced birth is quite literally torture. abortion is healthcare & communities with access to safe abortions are healthier for it.

nvm i’m good now. watch this video
(full disclosure, captions are unfortunately only-automatic at the moment of posting. they are pretty accurately generated! but i do wish there were fully formatted embedded captions so they weren’t so flashy. this video was released barely 24hrs ago so maybe there will be proper captions added at another time.)

finally finished all of one character's entire quests/optional dialogue/questions/etc.... 100,000 words... .... aughhh
#Given some of it IS lines of code and stuff but like.. minus all that it's still probably at least 85 - 95k words hhhhhh#AND I have to do this for another 3 characters. Then a few partial quests for 3 others. THEN the other random misc stuff in the game#(like there are public areas in the city like a park and a forest that you can go and do a few things at. and chat with a few random#townsfolk that aren't actually full characters or anything. And there's a community board where you can#browse some of the random job advertisments or silly things that happen to be posted around#and also pick up a few odd jobs of your own to help earn coin to buy gifts for the npcs. etc. etc.)#Originally I was thinking like 'ah I'll make a short little game just to try it out! :3 It'll take maybe a few months!''#haha........................hee hee........................................hoho#Also evil that it would have been done already if I didn't totally drop itand stop working on it for like 5 years randomly#i could have made 5 years of steady slow progress gradually. instead of like 'one initial idea dump + about a month of art and writing'#...... 5 year break..... 'sudden mad dash to try to get probably 400.000 words written in a year or less' lol#I just really want to be done and have something out there already so it can lead to doing other things in my world..!!!!!! T o T#Like this can be an introduction and then maybe from that I can make other games. or short story anthologies. or other such things#But there needs to be some initially not very complex easy to interact with starting point first I guess... if that makes sense#That's part of why I stopped posting worldbuilding lore dump stuff as often because its' like.. massive walls of novella length#text are much more inacessible to engage with than like.. ooh a game! and there's characters! so its more approachable! and theres#visuals! oo! and the text is broken up in small bits line by line with other things in betwen! oo! etc. etc. lol#Not that THIS is even very accessible. I think dialogue heavy interactive fiction/visual novel type stuff is pretty niche and considered#boring or tedious compared to something with more ''gamplay'' like where you can actually move around in a world#and shoot things or whatever lol. But its an inbetween point. something SLIGHTLY#more accesible for now. Since i just dont have the budget or means or ability to make some skyrim type thing obviously LOL#Though maybe if theres any interest in the visual novel that could lead to making other things too. or at least I hope. I have a VERY cool#idea for a more ''gamey'' type of game that is a super fun concept and etc. but I would need to hire at least 2 people to make it.. ough..#I could do all the writing and probably half of the art. But I think I'd inevitably need a 3d artist and someone who can Code For Real hbjh#the system for ren'py (the thing I'm making a visual novel in) is not that complicated if you stick to just simple dialogue and stuff.#Making a whole moderately sized 3d game with minigames in it and a bunch of quest features and etc. would be out of my simplistic scope#''just learn it yourself!!' ... i barely manage to eat and sleep reliably every day lol... i do not function well enough to spend months#learning that many new skills. I already have a lot of of things I'm good at (not in a braggy way but just factually like.. i already have#a wide variety of different things under my belt).. at some point I have to just be happy with what i CAN already do and focus on that#and admit I need to get outside help sometimes ghjbh... NO more new skills/hobbies!!! ... ANYWAY

Please forgive me if this is a question you're tired of hearing 😅 I am not much in the cat community so I don't know if this is an exhausted point. I was just wondering if the stereotype of Siamese cats being super vocal is true?
Yes. Live in fear. The first 18 months of Zuko's time with us was full of yells and suffering. You can hear it outside your house, they will outlast you, the only answer is to reach a compromise with a cat. If you are not prepared to be held hostage by a cat, DNI

i think image gen can be used like any other artistic tool but I don't really think the big commerical proponents of "ai" are advertising it as a tool, they're adertising it as a solution. I also think it's intellectually dishonest to argue that image generation is exactly like "using photoshop/taking a photograph" because of some generalized "those were also criticized at their conception for being new and scary and disruptive" soundbite. they were not even really criticized for the same reasons. find a better argument.

We ought to write more Pokemon fic some time. We want to recreate the Pokemon Manners/Human Manners cheat sheet that we made a few years ago we think that this site would like the Sliding Scale Of Politeness When Greeting A New Pokemon You've Never Met Before.
#we speak#writing#we grew up with pmd games and we feel like the way that pmd pokemon's dialogue tends to be excessively... direct?#should be a feature and not a bug when any pokemon that you meet might be totally unfamiliar with your species and biology#it's probably very polite to start up front with some basic facts about yourself so they know how to act going forward#the very upfront feel to dialogue also very much helps with keeping the dialogue feel more... pokemon#people mock the series for weird npc dialogue a lot but we think that taking these things literally makes for more fun society building#it doesn't all have to fit with socially acceptable for our world we think. polite in our world isn't even consistent by household.#sometimes a polite interaction sounds like “hello! i'm poochyena! i like to chase people and bite!”#name and immediately socially useful information. now you know about the chasing people and biting so you don't assume it's rude#of course poochyena bites and chases people. it likes to do that. you can say you don't like that and it might stop doing that to You#but it will not stop biting and chasing people because that's what it likes to do and it will probably only befriend people okay with that#it makes a very specific dialogue feel that's very fun to do. we like how the pokemon world tends to treat any sort of like#disability or “weird” things as something that you just say out the gate and everyones like “oh okay”#and then treat that as Part Of Interactions going forwards. there are a surprising amount of parts of the pokemon manga#that are dedicated to working around a character's disability after one or all of their means of dealing with it get taken out#admittedly we aren't that caught up on newer content but we find the way that it tends to be just Accepted as very refreshing#making the dialogue this direct does also tend to make it read as more “childish” in english and particular because a lot of Maturity's jus#learning how to dance around what you're saying or phrase it in different ways to get your idea across differently#whereas here everything is just as direct as possible. “i don't like charmander”. “i like roasting berries”. “i want to dig things up”.#all pokemon dialogue tends to go towards being exceedingly simple and it makes for some very distinct writing#especially when you have to tackle complex situations with characters who probably dont employ that sort of vocabulary#though we personally enjoy doing this sort of stuff your mileage may vary ofc#we are biased towards this sort of thins because we find it MUCH more fun to build up what we're talking about from blocks#than to like. try and use more indirect wording that may lose things in translation#unfortunately this is not fun in irl conversation. everyone has to be on the same page and you need to use the same playbook to communicate#we REALLY wish people said what they meant though. we're really tired of being asked shit like “is this accessible”#when what they mean is “can you climb these stairs” a question which depends on the day our energy level and how things have been going#there are a lot of things we could say that would make us feel like some sort of anti sjw type guy and a lot of em boil down to just#"for the love of god dont dance around a Sensitive Topic just get to the point and ask us about it this just makes things harder for everyo

i take issue with a view of community when it seems you only consider it to include people you like who agree with your views 100% without deviation or nuance & when you seem to believe that the only reason someone would fall outside this line is because they're evil (& you're the good guys). i'm very sorry but that's not community to me. maybe "house party" would be a better term? instead of trying to buzz wordify everything that makes you feel big and special, try just being honest about how you actually interact with your real community, especially the folks you see as evil for not falling in perfect lockstep with your decided worldview

Empowering Communities: A Deep Dive into Community Access through NDIS
In the vibrant tapestry of Australian communities, every individual deserves the opportunity to thrive, regardless of their abilities. The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) plays a pivotal role in making this vision a reality by enhancing community access NDIS for people with disabilities. Let’s explore how the NDIS fosters inclusivity and what it means for both individuals and the broader community.
Understanding NDIS and Community Access
The NDIS is a government initiative designed to support Australians with disabilities by providing funding for services and supports that are tailored to their individual needs. One of the core objectives of the NDIS is to improve community access, ensuring that people with disabilities can participate fully in social, educational, and employment activities.
What Is Community Access?
Community access refers to the ability of individuals to engage in and benefit from various community activities. This includes participating in social events, accessing public facilities, pursuing educational opportunities, and finding meaningful employment. For people with disabilities, community access means breaking down barriers that have traditionally limited their participation in these areas.
How NDIS Facilitates Community Access
**1. Funding for Support Services: The NDIS provides funding for a range of services aimed at enhancing community participation. This includes support for personal care, transportation, and assistive technology. By covering these costs, the NDIS helps ensure that individuals can attend events, go to work, or simply enjoy leisure activities without being hindered by logistical or physical barriers.
**2. Tailored Plans: Each participant in the NDIS receives a personalized plan based on their specific needs and goals. This tailored approach allows individuals to receive support that is directly relevant to their circumstances, whether it’s adapting a workspace, modifying a vehicle for easier access, or providing social skills training.
**3. Promoting Inclusivity: The NDIS also works to foster inclusivity within communities by encouraging organizations and businesses to become more accessible. Through various initiatives and partnerships, the scheme supports the development of accessible venues, inclusive programs, and awareness campaigns that challenge stereotypes and promote understanding.
**4. Skill Development: Beyond immediate support, the NDIS focuses on long-term empowerment through skill development. Programs that build independent living skills, social interaction, and job readiness contribute to greater community integration and self-sufficiency.
Success Stories: Community Access in Action
To illustrate the impact of NDIS on community access, let’s look at a few success stories:
Sarah’s Journey to Employment: Sarah, who has a physical disability, used NDIS funding to adapt her workplace and receive support from a job coach. As a result, she not only secured meaningful employment but also became an advocate for workplace accessibility, inspiring other businesses to follow suit.
Tom’s Social Integration: Tom, a young man with autism, received support for social skills training and participation in local sports clubs. His increased confidence and social connections have not only enhanced his quality of life but also fostered a more inclusive community environment.
Mia’s Educational Pursuits: Mia, a student with a learning disability, benefited from assistive technology funded by the NDIS. This technology allowed her to engage more effectively in her studies and participate in extracurricular activities, opening doors to further educational opportunities.
Looking Ahead: The Future of Community Access with NDIS
As we move forward, the NDIS continues to evolve, with a focus on expanding its reach and effectiveness. Ongoing feedback from participants, community organizations, and stakeholders helps shape the scheme’s future, ensuring that it remains responsive to the changing needs of individuals with disabilities.
Getting Involved
Communities play a crucial role in the success of the NDIS. By actively participating in local initiatives, supporting inclusive practices, and advocating for accessibility, we can collectively contribute to a more inclusive society. Whether you’re an individual with a disability, a caregiver, or a community member, your involvement makes a difference.
In conclusion, the NDIS is more than just a support scheme; it’s a catalyst for change, fostering a more inclusive and accessible community for everyone. By understanding and embracing the principles of community access, we can work together to build a society where every individual has the opportunity to thrive.

Look, I am the LAST person to say that we should All Avoid Sex or shame people for having it or uphold it as some Mystical Special Sacred Thing That Changes You On An Atomic Level Forever, but y'all have got to stop a) acting like sex is the only way for anyone to truly have fun or "experience being human" or whatever, b) acting like having a Super Active Sex Life At All Times is a cornerstone of personal emotional maturity, and c) acting like sex is a literal need you are entitled to that you will die without, a la food/water/shelter/medical care.

were all for prison abolition and transformative justice until i say "the man who abused me as a young teen is not in a place where he has access to children or women so i dont want to pursue any judicial action against him, and also i understand that while the abuse he put me through was extreme and awful, he was young, traumatized, endured abused himself, and abusing multiple substances and i dont believe he is the same person he was at the time", at which point everyone looks at me with pity and concern and tells me i dont have to make excuses for him and im allowed to hate him and etc etc. like yeah i do hate him. im capable of thinking past hatred, being reasonable about the situation, and maintaining my political ideals even when it comes to things personal to me, so that when i say "everyone deserves a chance at rehabilitation" i dont conveniently make an exception for the guy who hurt me personally.. anyway.

my household depends on disability income that is for sure going to be on the chopping block. I’m not trying to be doomerist, I’m just going off what this man has historically tried to do during his last tenure and what he has been promising to do all along his recent campaign.
Im going to have to open up some amount of donations at some point, im sure. In the meantime I’m going to have to pursue things seriously that I was putting off because of self-doubt and insecurity. I’m going to have to figure out if opening up art commissions is something I can feasibly get a handle on, I’m going to actually try to cobble together my cringe plans for a YouTube channel. I am going to have to iron out plans b and c and d and e if these primary ways of getting back into the non-traditional workforce don’t pan out. I think the only way to insulate my vulnerable household to any degree is to, unfortunately, try to accrue some amount of money, and try to relocate to a city/state that has more available community — which also takes money.
I wish everyone I know the easiest life possible. I hope you catch every single break that is conceivable for you to catch. I’m not sure I will make it, to be totally fucking honest with you, but I’m going to have to try. If you’re trying too, I hope it is smooth sailing as much as possible. I hope miracles happen for you. I hope whatever burdens you have are light. Even if you don’t really see me around, I am rooting for you.
