Top Signs Your Commercial Windows Need Restoration: Advice from Long Beach Window Company
Your home is an oasis. It is the place you go after a long day of running errands and dealing with work projects to get a sense of peace and tranquility. The last thing you want to be dealing with is a broken window or casing with leaks that lead to water damage.
Our team at Long Beach Window Company works with residential and commercial window restoration to ensure you have a solid solution against weather, heat/cold, and unwanted prying eyes. All this, and we focus on maintaining the legacy parts, mechanisms, and aesthetics that infuse your property with unique materials and stories. Here is some quick advice as to why it may be time to give us a call.
Difficulty in Opening and Closing Windows
Your windows should always be easy to open. As the property settles due to seasonal effects, the mechanisms can wear out, windows can get misaligned, or openings can pop up, making the operation difficult to manage. This can pose safety risks to you and your family. Our team helps by realigning the window to ensure smooth operation all year round.
Drafts and Poor Insulation Long Beach is beautiful, but we get our fair share of cold and hot weather. Afternoon storms and heavy winds can be a big problem for your monthly HVAC and power bills whenever your windows are not sealing correctly. Our commercial window restoration services often focus on ensuring you have the insulation and alignment needed for a comfortable environment, no matter how it looks outside.
Visible Damage and Deterioration Wood rot, cracks, or warping are 100% clear indications it is time for commercial window restoration. Not only will these problems impact the general appearance of your building, but they can lead to much more expensive repairs to your structure if left unchecked. You want a quality team of experts to ensure proper operation and aesthetic visuals.
Foggy or Condensed Glass One of the less noticed signs your commercial windows need repairing is overly foggy glass or a lot of condensation. This indicates the seals around your windows have failed, often leading to poor visibility and inadequate insulation. We can repair these issues by resealing the panes and replacing the glass to ensure you get a lovely view outside your home without water dripping on the inside.
Historical and Aesthetic Value At Long Beach Window Company, we specialize in maintaining original windows and historical pieces. These are the unique windows that add to a building’s character and charm. We love preserving such windows rather than replacing them and have years of experience, specialized tools, and trained expertise to see the job done right.
Conclusion Recognizing the clear signs that it’s time to contact a commercial window restoration company is crucial to maintaining the visual and functional integrity of your building. With so many pressures from use, settling buildings, and weather impacting the overall quality of your windows, the sooner you reach out for an inspection and estimation, the better.
Give our team of detail-oriented commercial window restoration experts a call today at 562-513-5545. One quick phone call may be all it takes to prevent much higher costs down the road.

Iris Barrel Apfel, Decorator and Fashion Stylist
(August 29, 1921 – March 1, 2024)
Ms. Apfel was one of the most vivacious personalities in the worlds of fashion, textiles, and interior design, she has cultivated a personal style that is both witty and exuberantly idiosyncratic.
Her originality was typically revealed in her mixing of high and low fashions—Dior haute couture with flea market finds, nineteenth-century ecclesiastical vestments with Dolce & Gabbana lizard trousers.
With remarkable panache and discernment, she combines colors, textures, and patterns without regard to period, provenance, and, ultimately, aesthetic conventions. Paradoxically, her richly layered combinations—even at their most extreme and baroque—project a boldly graphic modernity.
Iris Barrel was born on Aug. 29, 1921, in Astoria, Queens, the only child of Samuel Barrel, who owned a glass and mirror business, and his Russian-born wife, Sadye, who owned a fashion boutique.
She studied art history at New York University, then qualified to teach and did so briefly in Wisconsin before fleeing back to New York to work on Women's Wear Daily, and for interior designer Elinor Johnson, decorating apartments for resale and honing her talent for sourcing rare items before opening her own design firm. She was also an assistant to illustrator Robert Goodman.
As a distinguished collector and authority on antique fabrics, Iris Apfel has consulted on numerous restoration projects that include work at the White House that spanned nine presidencies from Harry Truman to Bill Clinton.
Along with her husband, Carl, she founded Old World Weavers, an international textile manufacturing company and ran it until they retired in 1992. The Apfels specialized in the reproduction of fabrics from the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries, and traveled to Europe twice a year in search of textiles they could not source in the United States.
The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute assembled 82 ensembles and 300 accessories from her personal collection in 2005 in a show about her called “Rara Avis”.
Almost overnight, Ms. Apfel became an international celebrity of pop fashion.
Ms. Apfel was seen in a television commercial for the French car DS 3, became the face of the Australian fashion brand Blue Illusion, and began a collaboration with the start-up WiseWear. A year later, Mattel created a one-of-a-kind Barbie doll in her image. Last year, she appeared in a beauty campaign for makeup with Ciaté London.
Six years after the Met show she started her fashion line "Rara Avis" with the Home Shopping Network.
She was cover girl of Dazed and Confused, among many other publications, window display artist at Bergdorf Goodman, designer and design consultant, then signed to IMG in 2019 as a model at age 97.
Ms. Iris Apfel became a visiting professor at the University of Texas at Austin in its Division of Textiles and Apparel, teaching about imagination, craft and tangible pleasures in a world of images.
In 2018, she published “Iris Apfel: Accidental Icon,” an autobiographical collection of musings, anecdotes and observations on life and style.
Ms. Apfel’s apartments in New York and Palm Beach were full of furnishings and tchotchkes that might have come from a Luis Buñuel film: porcelain cats, plush toys, statuary, ornate vases, gilt mirrors, fake fruit, stuffed parrots, paintings by Velázquez and Jean-Baptiste Greuze, a mannequin on an ostrich.
The Museum of Lifestyle & Fashion History in Boynton Beach, Florida, is designing a building that will house a dedicated gallery of Ms. Apfel's clothes, accessories, and furnishings.
Ms. Apfel’s work had a universal quality, It’s was a trend.

Interesting restoration for this 1888 Queen Anne Victorian in Mobile, AL. Ignore the white walls, b/c they left it a blank slate for the new owner, but the 7bd, 8ba home has some design inconsistencies and it was formerly used as a bed & breakfast, but most recently as a single family. They're asking $699K.
The entrance hall has the original railings, but they gave it a popular Southern style wood paneling. I like this look, but I'm not sure if this was the original style, b/c it reminds me of an 1830s dog trot hallway.
Example of a dog trot cottage entrance in Louisiana.
The sitting room was modernized and I'm not into their choice of tile flooring. I don't know if the fireplace originally had "Mobile" spelled out in mosaic tiles, but it's cute.
I don't like this at all.
Now, this room was left pretty much the same. I THINK it's the billiard room, b/c it's supposed to have a bar and that looks like a bar on the right.
The kitchen was made commercial when it was a bed & breakfast. Back there, where you see a regular fridge is what is supposedly a breakfast room.
There's no escaping that this kitchen is very commercial. If the new owner doesn't want it this way, it will have to be gutted, but they can sell the stuff to a restaurant supply place.
Here's a new shower room. Not sure if that mirror is purposely slanted.
The 2nd fl. landing. There are 7 bds. with en-suite baths b/c it was a B&B, but the en-suites are so tiny.
This bedroom is very large, and the windows indicate that it may have been one of the 2nd fl. sitting rooms shown on the floor plan. There's also a cool sleep loft.
Looks like they tried to incorporate some antique elements into this shower room.
Also a spacious bedroom with a small en-suite.
This room is very sunny, has an alcove, and doors to a terrace.
The en-suite for this room is a small shower room that is also accessed from the hall.
Also a nice bright room.
It appears that they squeezed these small shower rooms in, b/c a Victorian wouldn't have had so many water closets. This must be deluxe suite.

The (Almost) Flood of Frog Manner
If you followed me wayyyy back in the day, you might remember a flood ravaged our basement in 2012.
This is what I wrote about it back then.
It was bad. In order to show you a picture of it I had to convert it to black and white because the color version has a shade of brown that churns the stomach just to look at.
I am still traumatized from having to walk barefoot in that. And I still have a very vivid memory of sitting on the edge of my bed as the water started slowly creeping in and and surrounding me. It literally felt like being in a horror film.
I think my estimate of 6 inches may have been what it *felt* like at the time. I was pretty shaken by the experience and you can see why eyewitness testimony is often shite. Though I think our basement isn't completely level and it was a bit deeper in my room. I just remember my feet being completely submerged as I was escaping.
A few of the pedal casualties...
A vintage Boss Harmonist that had awful pitch tracking which is why I loved it. A Big Muff, because everyone needs a Big Muff in their life. A Fulltone Fulldrive 2 and Clyde Wah. And about 10 others I don't have a picture of including an EHX Mircosynth, Digitech Whammy, Boss DD-5 delay, and a vintage 1977 MXR Flanger—better known as the Eddie Van Halen pedal that made his guitar sound like it was in space.
Everything had to be torn out and washed with commercial machinery. My room was the cleanest it had ever been—scientifically speaking.
In the aftermath, while we restored the basement (another long story), I was relegated to my mom's "purse room."
To make matters worse our air conditioner broke and I have terrible temperature regulation. So I started going mad living in the purse room.
I was convinced one of them was staring at me.
And trying to murder me in my sleep.
So... why am I talking about a 12 year old flood?
The other night I woke up from a nap and saw this out the window.
And it was still pouring.
I started to hear a clunking noise from the basement and when I went to investigate, water had begun to back up into the laundry room through the main drain.
It was reminding me of 2012 all over again.
Except back then I think our pump was underpowered and unable to deal with that much water. And now that we have a much better pump, it seemed to be handling things much better.
I was also concerned because water was leaking in from the basement windows. I guess they were filling up faster than the water could saturate into the ground and the windows are not 100% water sealed.
Just in case, I piled up a bunch of old towels and bed clothes that were in the laundry room (mostly my dad's stuff) and made a moat around the drain that was starting to back up. I was hoping that would hold back any minor flooding if things got worse. I probably ruined everything, but I am still glad I did that even though it wasn't really necessary.
I also did something stupid.
I went outside to look at the area of the yard where the pump is buried to check on it. And I started to go out through our main garage door, but when I opened it, I let in a bunch of water. And that is where we are storing all of the goods for the next estate auction. So, not sure if there is any water damage yet. I was too tired from pushing out water to inspect things further.
I made a little video compilation of the not-quite-a-flood incident.
I'm very glad it wasn't as bad as in 2012. But this is still going to be a pain in my patoot to clean up.

Violette, Josephine, and Giorgio spent the rest of the afternoon surveying the meager commercial offerings of Strangerville. They looked into every shop window and meandered down each street, showing their new home to Violette and enjoying one another’s company.
As the sun began to tilt ever closer to the tops of the red rocks, Violette started to grow visibly tired, so Giorgio led them to his farmhouse at the edge of town. As they drew closer, Violette’s steps continued to slow, so Gio picked her up to carry her the rest of the way as she dozed off on his shoulder.
As they approached the house, they spotted Antoine on the porch, smoking a cigarette and surveying the surrounding desert. Violette seemed to sense his presence and her eyes sprung open, insisting on being put down so she could sprint toward him. He immediately kneeled down into the sand to pull her into a hug, “Well now Miss Violette, I do believe I’ve found your room. Would you like to go and see if it’s up to your standards?”
She shook her head in giddy agreement and Antoine threw Gio one last thankful look before he picked up Violette to carry her inside.
Now alone with Giorgio for the first time since she arrived, Jo’s eyes began to linger on the peeling sideboards and sheet metal roofs shivering in the hot sun. Giorgio looked down at her hopefully, and she returned his gaze with a lifted eyebrow, no need to convey her trepidations with much else. Gio offered her his hand and led her across the porch, through the yard, and to the smaller home where he had been living.
They stopped at the front door, and Gio turned back to her, “Listen, Jo, I hold no illusions that this is the home you want, but ever since I received Antoine’s letter I’ve done nothing but try and make it comfortable for you.”
She knew that now wasn’t the time for judgment, for fear or regret. So she gave him a small nod and he opened the door to the cabin, which smelled of strong alcohol and sunbaked wood.
They entered straight into the living room, where she tried not to notice the cracks on the walls or the thinning lace curtains. Gio kept her hand firmly in his as he led her to the bedroom door. As he opened it, Josephine realized with a jolt that it even shabbier than the previous room; one whole wall was covered in nothing but newspaper, and the patches elsewhere told her that one day the rest would be as well.
To the right was a corner already set with some of her belongings and the drawing of her mother that she had mailed in a carefully wrapped package weeks before. She let go of his hand and walked toward it, running her hand along the nearby vanity, which had already been lovingly arranged with her jewelry, new magazines, and a fresh flower.
He watched her hand move along the weathered wood, but stayed distant as he spoke, giving her space to take in the room on her own, “I restored it for you, Jo. I never thought I could, honestly, but there isn’t shit to do here but drink or work. So I found it, torn to shreds and thrown on the side of the road, and restored it for you, just hoping that you’d write, that you’d be here one day to use it.”
His expression was so earnest that it almost pained her to look at, even in the reflection of the mirror. He made no effort to hide his worry and pain or the flashes of desperate happiness that she was standing there at all, bedecked in pearls and makeup amidst the crumbling walls and stained carpets. It was impossible not to see the best of him in that moment, to remember all of the kindness and love that he had shown her while she withheld so much from him.
She let her hand linger on the dresser for a moment more before she went to him. He immediately threw his arms around her and she felt his entire body relax in relief. As he brought his lips to her neck and hands to the buttons of her shirt, she closed her eyes; still through shut lids she could see the room around them.
No regrets, Jo. You told yourself no regrets. Just don’t look back. Never look back.

After I deleted a bunch of projects (thankfully non-critical, though representing a great deal of work in total) during a recent fresh OS install, I realized that my backup practices are practically non-existent. Any tips or sources on getting started making, and eventually automating, effective backups?
I am stealing the concept here from jwz's backup guide, but I am recommending different tools, focusing on personal files only, and also addressing Windows. jwz's guide is a good reference:
Doing a way, way better job than most people of backing up one single system is very easy. Let us begin.
The most basic step of having decent backups is getting your hands on two external hard drives at least big enough to hold your entire system, and putting a label on them that says "BACKUP ONLY DO NOT USE FOR ANYTHING ELSE I AM BEING FOR REAL HERE"
Once you've got those, plug one into your system wherever it spends the most time. If you have a desktop then that's solved, if it's a laptop hopefully you already have a USB hub you plug it into when you sit down to work or whatever and you can just leave it there.
Now set up regular scheduled backups to that device. On Windows and Mac, there's a built in tool for backing up your system to an external drive. We'll assume that you just want to back up your user files on Windows and Linux, since doing full system backups isn't tricky but is kind of unnecessary.
(Ugh. Windows seems to be trying to phase out Windows Backup and Restore in favour of their File History thing. That's annoying, let me log in to windows and check how this actually works. Mac in the meantime)
Mac has Time Machine. Time Machine is extremely good, and you can tell Time Machine to save its backups to a disk. Point Time Machine at your external hard drive and tell it to schedule a backup however frequently you want. If anything goes wrong in the future, you can ask Time Machine to look at that backup disk and it'll show you a few versions of whatever you backed up there. I'm not a Mac user but I think you can even use Time Machine to transfer between an old computer and a new one.
Windows now has File History which I have never used in my life, they added it after I stopped using Windows. Same idea though, pick some folders and back them up to an external storage device. If anything goes wrong, use File History to go back through that device and find the version of the file you wanted. I don't know if there's still a way to access the older Backup and Restore system.
On Linux, my favoured way to manage simple desktop backups is Deja Dup, a GUI for Duplicity. Duplicity can do a lot more than just backup to a disk, but we'll start there. Install Deja Dup, open it up, and follow the prompts to back up your user files to the external drive. Deja Dup can also do backups to remote storage servers, Google Drive/Onedrive, and commercial storage providers like Amazon and Backblaze. It will even encrypt your backups if you are worried about Amazon spying on your files or whatever. If something goes wrong, point Deja Dup at your backup drive and it will offer you a suite of restore options covering a few versions.
Now, you have a permanently plugged in hard drive that will always get rolling backups you can restore from. These aren't safe from, say, ransomware, or your house burning down, but at least you won't lose anything when you update a computer or accidentally delete something and have an ohshit moment.
Now you take that other drive you bought, and do the same backup you're already doing to that. Now you go put it somewhere else where it's readily accessible and won't be accidentally used for anything, keep it at the office, give it to your dad, whatever. Set a reminder on your phone for once a month. Once a month, go get that drive, run another backup, and put it back. You now have better backups than many medium sized businesses.
This is impractical to scale beyond one PC, but if we're being honest even when I had like half a dozen laptops, only one contained much of value. Back up the system you care about.
Don't worry too much about making sure your backups are space efficient, like, yeah it would be a good idea to exclude game installs and stuff from your backups to save space but if that sounds daunting or time consuming literally do not do it. Decision paralysis is brain poison, just back it up and sort it out later. 2TB external hard drives are cheap.
FURTHER STEPS YOU CAN TAKE:
Easy Cloud backup: Backblaze personal backup on Windows and Mac is $6/month and pretty easy to use. If you are struggling to keep track of a monthly remote backup, or you want an easy remote backup. Backblaze is a reasonably reliable company and one of the Go To Companies in the world of data reliability. Yes, it's a cloud subscription. If you don't want that don't use it.
Network backup: If you have access to a storage server, that can be a good way to make a remote backup without having to shuttle disks around. That could be a physical server if you maintain some kind of lab, or it could be a cloud storage provider like Backblaze B2 or Onedrive or whatever. Deja Dup specifically supports backing up to a lot of different network storage providers, and even if you only have a fifty or sixty gigabytes of network storage on hand, your most essential personal files can probably fit in there.
Drive failures: Eventually one of your drives will fail, either your storage drive or your backup drive. If the storage drive fails, well, that's what the backup is for, go get a replacement and restore from the backup. If your backup drive fails, well, that's why you have two of them. As soon as humanly possible go get a replacement drive, and substitute it in for the dead one.

During the '80s, mannequins set the beauty trends—and real women were expected to follow. The dummies were "coming to life," while the ladies were breathing anesthesia and going under the knife. The beauty industry promoted a "return to femininity" as if it were a revival of natural womanhood—a flowering of all those innate female qualities supposedly suppressed in the feminist '70s. Yet the "feminine" traits the industry celebrated most were grossly unnatural—and achieved with increasingly harsh, unhealthy, and punitive measures.
The beauty industry, of course, has never been an advocate of feminist aspirations. This is not to say that its promoters have a conscious political program against women's rights, just a commercial mandate to improve on the bottom line. And the formula the industry has counted on for many years—aggravating women's low self-esteem and high anxiety about a "feminine" appearance—has always served them well. (American women, according to surveys by the Kinsey Institute, have more negative feelings about their bodies than women in any other culture studied.) The beauty makers' motives aren't particularly thought out or deep. Their overwrought and incessant instructions to women are more mindless than programmatic; their frenetic noise generators create more static than substance. But even so, in the '80s the beauty industry belonged to the cultural loop that produced backlash feedback. Inevitably, publicists for the beauty companies would pick up on the warning signals circulating about the toll of women's equality, too—and amplify them for their own purposes.
"Is your face paying the price of success?" worried a 1988 Nivea skin cream ad, in which a business-suited woman with a briefcase rushes a child to day care and catches a glimpse of her career-pitted skin in a store window. If only she were less successful, her visage would be more radiant. "The impact of work stress . . . can play havoc with your complexion," Mademoiselle warned; it can cause "a bad case of dandruff," "an eventual loss of hair" and, worst of all, weight gain. Most at risk, the magazine claimed, are "high-achieving women," whose comely appearance can be ravaged by "executive stress." In ad after ad, the beauty industry hammered home its version of the backlash thesis: women's professional progress had downgraded their looks; equality had created worry lines and cellulite. This message was barely updated from a century earlier, when the late Victorian beauty press had warned women that their quest for higher education and employment was causing "a general lapse of attractiveness" and "spoiling complexions."
The beauty merchants incited fear about the cost of women's occupational success largely because they feared, rightly, that that success had cost them—in profits. Since the rise of the women's movement in the '70s, cosmetics and fragrance companies had suffered a decade of flat-to-declining sales, hair-product merchandisers had fallen into a prolonged slump, and hairdressers had watched helplessly as masses of female customers who were opting for simple low-cost cuts defected to discount unisex salons. In 1981, Revlon's earnings fell for the first time since 1968; by the following year, the company's profits had plunged a record 40 percent. The industry aimed to restore its own economic health by persuading women that they were the ailing patients—and professionalism their ailment. Beauty became medicalized as its lab-coated army of promoters, and real doctors, prescribed physician-endorsed potions, injections for the skin, chemical "treatments" for the hair, plastic surgery for virtually every inch of the torso. (One doctor even promised to reduce women's height by sawing their leg bones.) Physicians and hospital administrators, struggling with their own financial difficulties, joined the industry in this campaign. Dermatologists faced with a shrinking teen market switched from treating adolescent pimples to "curing" adult female wrinkles. Gynecologists and obstetricians frustrated with a sluggish birthrate and skyrocketing malpractice premiums traded their forceps for liposuction scrapers. Hospitals facing revenue shortfalls opened cosmetic-surgery divisions and sponsored extreme and costly liquid-protein diet programs.
The beauty industry may seem the most superficial of the cultural institutions participating in the backlash, but its impact on women was, in many respects, the most intimately destructive—to both female bodies and minds. Following the orders of the '80s beauty doctors made many women literally ill. Antiwrinkle treatments exposed them to carcinogens. Acid face peels burned their skin. Silicone injections left painful deformities. "Cosmetic" liposuction caused severe complications, infections, and even death. Internalized, the decade's beauty dictates played a role in exacerbating an epidemic of eating disorders. And the beauty industry helped to deepen the psychic isolation that so many women felt in the '80s, by reinforcing the representation of women's problems as purely personal ills, unrelated to social pressures and curable only to the degree that the individual woman succeeded in fitting the universal standard—by physically changing herself.

On August 21st 1754 William Murdock, the Scottish engineer, was born.
Murdock invented coal-gas lighting, the first new form of lighting in the Industrial Age, and which remained the principal form of illumination until Edison’s invention of electric lighting 100-years later.
He was a close friend and associate of James Watt, who he met when he moved south to join Boulton & Watt, a partnership that was selling James Watt ’s new steam engines. During the job interview, Matthew Boulton noticed that Murdock was nervously handling a fine piece of woodwork that he had brought with him. Boulton recognized Murdock’s talent and hired him on the spot.
Soon Murdock began the experiments in gas lighting for which he is famous today. Murdock was the first to realize that gas was a more convenient energy source than coal, primarily because it could be piped and controlled more easily. Despite ridicule from his peers and the danger of gas explosions, Murdock Installed gaslighting in his house, using gas made from coal in his backyard and piped in through a hole in a window frame. Murdock went on to develop methods for manufacturing, storing, and purifying coal-g
Murdock’s employers were unenthusiastic about this sideline until they heard that a similar gaslighting system, made by Philippe Lebon, was being used in France. Boulton and Watt then asked Murdock to install gaslighting at their main factory in Birmingham in 1802, as part of England’s celebration of a temporary peace treaty with France. Soon the firm received its first commercial order to install gaslights at a cotton spinning factory. By 1806, Murdock had improved the odour of the coal-gas.
Meanwhile, Murdock had continued to apply his ingenuity to steam engine improvements, many of which were patented in 1799. He invented a new machine for boring cylinders and a better method for casting jacketed cylinders. Today, he is still known for inventing the slide valve, which injects and removes steam alternately from each end of the cylinder. Murdock also built the first model of an oscillating engine and the first free-standing steam engine.
Although Murdock eventually became a limited partner in Boulton & Watt, he remained essentially a hired hand throughout his career, rather than an independent businessman. Nevertheless, he earned great respect from many rivals who were wealthier and better educated.
In September 1830, in declining health at age 76, Murdoch's partnership with Boulton & Watt which began in 1810 came to an end, at which point he was receiving £1,000 per year. The reasons for this appear to be both the increasing unprofitability of Boulton and Watt and Murdoch's increasing ill health. Murdoch died on November 15th 1839, aged 85.
Murdock might be a lesser well known name than his boss and contemporary James Watt, but he is just as important figure, and should be recognised as such . In 1892 he celebrated more, a bust was unveiled in The National Wallace Monument of the engineer, there is also a bust in at St. Mary's Church, Handsworth. The town of Redruth has an Annual Murdoch Day in June. The 2007 event included a parade of schoolchildren with banners on the theme "Earth, Wind, Fire and Water" and the first public journey of a full-size, working reproduction of Murdoch's Steam Carriage.
The house he lived at in Redruth has been restored and preserved and is a listed building, there is also a primary school in Birmingham named after him. In 2019, he was inducted into the Scottish Engineering Hall of Fame.

Slab Foundation Repair: Ensuring Stability and Longevity with Foundation Solutions
A solid foundation is essential for any structure, and slab foundations are among the most common types used in residential and commercial buildings. However, over time, slab foundations can develop issues that compromise the stability and safety of your property. At Foundation Solutions, we specialize in slab foundation repair, offering expert services to address and resolve these problems. In this blog post, we will explore the causes of slab foundation issues, the benefits of timely repairs, and why Foundation Solutions is your best choice for foundation repair services.
Common Causes of Slab Foundation Problems
Several factors can contribute to the deterioration of slab foundations. Understanding these causes can help in identifying issues early and seeking appropriate repairs:
Soil Movement: Changes in soil moisture levels can cause the ground to expand and contract, leading to foundation shifts and cracks.
Poor Drainage: Inadequate drainage systems can lead to water accumulation around the foundation, causing erosion and weakening the slab.
Tree Roots: Expanding tree roots can exert pressure on the foundation, leading to cracks and displacement.
Construction Defects: Poor construction practices, such as inadequate soil compaction or use of substandard materials, can compromise the foundation’s integrity.
Seismic Activity: In areas prone to earthquakes, seismic activity can cause significant damage to slab foundations.

Vision Masterlist
Abiogenesis (ao3) - tortoiseshells wanda/vision, background sam/steve, background natasha/maria T, 8k
Summary: Alive, or not? Other, or not? Wanda Maximoff suggests, glancing over his shoulder at his tablet and frowning at the Go match he is playing against Doctor Cho, that perhaps it is not as black and white as all that.
“A person is still a person, even after they die,” she says, tugging at the cuffs of her sweater. She must be thinking of her brother. “Human life isn’t bound by being alive.”
Or: In which Vision sets out to become less alone, and learns to make coffee, the rudiments of ballet, and about the common commercial airliners flying in and out of Philadelphia in the 70s and 80s along the way. Some of this will be useful, he thinks.
a drop from on high (ao3) - Barkour wanda/vision T, 4k
Summary: He is not a man. Perhaps before Wanda Vision wants to be one.
and they lived happily ever after (ao3) - letoatreidcs wanda/vision E, 2k
Summary: Vision watched as Wanda’s breathing evens out, slow and steady. Takes a moment to admire the view, overwhelmed by a surge of gratitude for this incredible woman, safe in his arms and their children, one in the middle of them cuddling to mom and the other spread on his chest.
His family.
In the two years he used to sneak around to see Wanda, he used to daydream about this. Never believing it was possible, but deep down always hoping that somehow it could be done. They still have a lot to figure out, with the twins, their powers, Wanda’s powers and his own old, new body. A lot of explanations to be given, but right now the room is dark and the house is quiet and Vision closes his eyes.
He gets to enjoy now and forever.
a very wandavision christmas! (ao3) - EmptyIceCreamContainer wanda/vision T, 6k
Summary: Wanda and Vision wake up to find snow outside and their sons excitedly pointing out that Christmas is right around the corner! Realizing that they’ve missed 9 holiday seasons with their sons, they’re determined to make the best Christmas ever! Can Vision exceed Dennis the Mailman’s legendary light display to win the city council’s award? Can Wanda secure THE most in-demand toy this holiday season? Or will their Christmas hopes disintegrate like a melting snowball?
AKA “What if WandaVision had a 90s episode AND a Christmas special?”
better when i’m with you (ao3) - thelilacfield wanda/vision T, 69k
Summary: He’s had a number of firsts. Virginia Reed, his first crush. Wanda Maximoff, his first kiss. Eve Simon, his first heartbreak. Mandy Fournier, the first girl who said yes when he asked her to dance. And he’s becoming increasingly certain that Sam Wilson is his first love.
Vision writes a letter each time he has a crush so consuming he can’t forget it. They are tiny pieces of his heart, written out for his eyes only, a way to say goodbye.
Until the day they’re sent out.
‘cause i love you for infinity (ao3) - letoatreidcs wanda/vision E, 4k
Summary: It was raining lightly outside their house.
The once blue and clear sky was now painted in mixtures of gray and white as the steady pattering of water hit the windows and roof. It was a sleepy morning, the kind meant to be savored under blankets with a loved one.
Vision loved these mornings.
hello again (ao3) - faebeast wanda/vision T, 49k
Summary: After the events of Westview, White Vision finds himself at Wakanda. The new memories he received at Westview haunt him, urging him to regain the identity he once had. Severely weakened due to the loss of the Mind Stone, he is on borrowed time to find a new power source and restore his former emotions. As he begins to put the pieces of his life together, he finds old friends. And old enemies.
husband and wife (ao3) - ghoultown wanda/vision G, 3k
Summary: A few Avengers wax poetic about what they’d do if they weren’t busy superhero-ing.
Vision wants to be a husband. Wanda thinks that’s cute.
keeping me keeping you keeping me warm (ao3) - ghoultown wanda/vision T, 6k
Summary: The Vision wakes up in a field, someplace. His skin is white. He knows what he’s meant to do.
It is hard to warm up your wife when you seem to be made of ice.
my father, my step-father, my father (ao3) - Dandybear wanda/vision M, 10k
Summary: Post-WandaVision. Wanda gets the kids and finds White Vision to get her happy ending. But, rebuilding a family isn’t easy.
over and over ‘til i get it right (ao3) - ghoultown wanda/vision T, 7k
Summary: “Where have you been?” she asks, her touch dancing toward the inside of his wrist, tugging the sleeve down. He freezes. “Working in the garage, then?“
“Er…” Vision stammers as she traces the dark ink stains on the flesh of his palm all the way down past the fabric. “No, that’s… um.”
“Oooooh, secrets,” she snickers, “What have you been up to?”
What he’s been up to is terribly demeaning.
-
There’s an empty spot in the center of the property deed and Vision wants to fill it. He doesn’t know how to draw a heart. He will simply have to learn.
perfect as you are (ao3) - boopoopeedoo wanda/vision T, 4k
Summary: Wanda and Vision’s resolve to remain just friends is tested when Tommy and Billy rope Vision into rescuing Wanda from a bad date.
so take me home (ao3) - wisteriafic wanda/vision T, 16k
Summary: Wanda and Vision, living a happy little life in the suburbs.
synthesis (ao3) - englishmajor226 wanda/vision N/R, 296k
Summary: This is a Wanda/Vision fic that alternates from the events in Wandavision to a lead-up of all past events until Infinity War, exclusively from Vision’s POV. Hang tight, kids. It’s gonna be a long one.
visions are seldom all they seem (ao3) - msmaxximoff wanda/vision T, 5k
Summary: In her dreams, this is the moment where she cries. This is the moment where she lets herself get swept up in the romance of it all and finally finds her happily ever after despite the entire multiverse conspiring against her.
But this Vision is the stuff of nightmares.
In the aftermath of everything, Wanda and Vision finally learn how to heal.
vision & the scarlet witch vol i (ao3) - Agent66 wanda/vision G, 82k
Summary: After the events of WandaVision, Wanda Maximoff and the Vision try their hand at retirement, with very expected results.
what is grief, if not love persevering? (ao3) - hunkahulkaaburningfudge wanda/vision G, 63k
Summary: The Avengers watch their future.
A WandaVision watch-it fic.
zenith (ao3) - Cyan_Rain wanda/vision T, 61k
Summary: Billy and Tommy wake up miles from Westview, in a world that’s nothing like the idyllic life their mother made for them, a world still reeling from a bizarre mass disappearance and reappearance people are starting to call “The Blip.”
Six years later, there has been no sign of Wanda for so long she’s presumed dead. Her children decide it’s time to find answers.
Billy, Tommy, Vision, Doctor Strange, America Chavez, and Reed Richards follow a series of clues to another universe, to a variant Earth so different from their own it might as well be an alien planet, where they will face unknown dangers, strange mysteries, and possibly the Scarlet Witch.
