Street Photography in Chinatown, Bangkok
A type of photography known as "street photography" focuses on capturing people and daily life in open areas of a city. The majority of the time, it is candid, which means the photographer does not stage or guide the subject; Record the scene as it occurs. In any urban or public setting, such as parks, streets, and gatherings of the general public,  street photography  is possible.
Its major objective is to convey a story via the image while also capturing the essence of a situation or time. It frequently entails capturing the interactions between individuals and their surroundings to emphasise the diversity and complexity of daily life.

[ID copied from Alt text: the first photo has the text, "sketch commissions for Gaza." Next to it is a drawing of the artist drawing on their art tablet.
second photo: 4 examples of commission prices and art, modeled by Kim Dokja from Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint in his demon king form. For one dollar: a rough chibi sketch. for 5 to ten dollars: a rough but more detailed sketch. there is more motion in his pose. for 10 to 15 dollars: a cleaner lined sketch with more detail given to the silhouette. for more than 15 dollars: a cleaner sketch with more attention to volume and detail in his outfit and wings. End ID]
For now up until March 10th I'm taking pay what you want sketch commissions for donations to Help Gaza Children, managed by @fairuzfan and Hussam, since from March 4th to the 10th all donations will go to families in Northern Gaza.
Their site is here where you can find more information, like their FAQ, and proof of purchases from donations they've received so far.
You can donate to Help Gaza Children's paypal here. The paypal link is also on their site.
guidelines:
To be upfront, I am a full time college student so expect a two month turnaround. I will give you an update around a month in and again at two months if I don't finish by then.
Please include a visual reference or detailed text description of the character(s) you want drawn, unless I've drawn them before and you're okay with me going with my design.
I can draw OCs, mechs, and furries.
I won't draw real people or anything nsfw.
I reserve the right to refuse a commission and may ask you to choose something else. If you want to know in advance if I'll take it, feel free to DM or send an ask.
Extra characters will be half the price as one character. Please only request up to three characters per category (ex: if you pay $35, you can get 3 characters: 1 for $15 and the other 2 for $10 each. if you pay $6 you can get 3 characters: 1 for $3 and 2 for $1.50 each)
don’t use these for commercial use. personal use (like as icons or headers, or like printing it for yourself) is okay
if you're paying in a currency other than dollars you can let me know and I'll try to adjust the pricing so you get a drawing equivalent to what you paid. I don't want people to pay the equivalent of $20 and get a rough sketch or something.
To get a commission, email me at desklamprey @ gmail.com with a screenshot of the receipt of your donation made after this post was made (3/5/24 at around 2 pm PST), and the details about your request. please censor any personal information in the receipt.

Hi, I got a chibi commission from you a bit ago and was wondering if it was okay to turn it into a keychain? It would be entirely for personal use, not commercial, I just think it would be cute and fun to have. Tysm in advance!
Yes!! I believe on my carrd it answers this question in the [faq section], a little near the bottom.
You can use and print any purchased commission for personal use :) my chibis are made with the intent to be used as pagedolls, so they'd also make very nice stickers or keychains too!
I'm actually waiting on a keychain of my Fizzles chibi right now! I ordered mine from Wooacry (I tried Vograce a while ago but was disappointed with the turnaround time, so I'm trying some other sellers).

If you get physical prints of my art, I'd be delighted to see photos of the finished product!!!

Bound: The Bucket List, by GallaPlacidia
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is actually a gift, but I'm taking a risk that my pal Lately isn't on Tumblr enough to know about this thing, lol. (Lately, if you see this: surprise? Merry Christmas?)
This is, of course, a bind of GallaPlacidia's fic The Bucket List. Galla's fic is no longer on AO3 but is available if you make a very small effort to locate it, which you should if you haven't already done so.
First off: huge thanks to @sits-bound who spotted me their typeset of the fic when mine was not behaving at all. I owe them thanks for this, for their choice for Draco's handwriting (which became quite a Theme for me as I went), and their help in figuring out toner-activated foil, which I used on the endpapers.
Secondly: the UK folks among you will, I hope, recognize this binding as an homage to the Oxford Black n' Red notebook. I wanted to create this binding to look as though it might be Draco's actual bucket list notebook, so I went with this theme in the colour choices and cover design, down to the name tag label (made from HTV) that I imagine Galla's Draco slapping on haphazardly as he frantically began his list.
I made Draco's version of the notebook just slightly different, of course -- with Galla's name in place of the text "black n' red", the name tag, and the little Aelfgifu crest in place of the Oxford one on the original.
(Aside: Aelfgifu is a bit of an inside joke with me and Lately, as we have spent a lot of time imagining a magical college within Cambridge called Aelfgifu College, as well as Draco and Harry's different academic journeys, their collegiate romance, etc., without ever writing more than a few hundred words of same, whoops. But! The college has a crest now! Maybe it'll get a story to go with it!)
This is a favorite, tip-top fic for Lately, and it's up there for me too. I don't think I need to dwell on Galla's brilliance as it's well-known in the fandom. But it was a treat to create my own typeset and bind for this fic. (I kept my first attempt as a personal copy, warts and all.)
More process under the cut.
Materials: Nothing extraordinary here except (as noted) the foiled endpapers. I used 1 mm board to create proper Bradel boards with a notch for the spine piece.
Process: A three-piece Bradel! My first!
I could have done a quarter bind (as the actual commercial notebook uses) but I wanted to learn a true Bradel three-piece bind for a non-fandom bind and this was my chance to try it out. Verdict: kinda neat, and handy when foiling directly to bookcloth (which I did not do here, but did for the non-fannish bind.) Endbands are machine-made and boring. (The actual commercial notebook has no endbands but I couldn't go that far.)
The typeset was fun. Galla's writing is very dialogue-driven, which means a lot of paragraph breaks, which leads to some interesting page break challenges, but in the end it came out nicely. I enjoyed setting Draco's letters, the Prophet article, and the Witch Weekly gossip column. And I had too much fun dropping random shit into the half-title page.
Re the endpapers: yes, I did comb through the fic and pull out all the numbered bucket list items, then all the non-numbered ones referred to in passing, which I then numbered and slotted into the list for the endpapers. I regret nothing. (Not pictured: for the back endpaper, the list is identical except I went through and struck out all the items Draco knocked off his list in the course of the story.)
I still don't own a colour printer! But I do own a little tiny photo printer (Canon Selphy) which is what I used to print the Aelfgifu crest, which I then just cut out and glued on. I like the shiny quality, even if it probably should be more like printed HTV in texture.
I'm quite delighted with the cover design. This one was so fun!

CALLING ALL ARTISTS AND WRITERS!!
It's inauguration day, and I'm sure many of us are very scared. It's more important now than ever to remember the importance of solidarity and defiance. I'm making a zine with these principles at its core, and I'd love your help.
I'm looking for any written or visual work. A written work could be a poem, a call to action, or just a thought. A visual work could be a sketch, a photo, or a painting. I'm looking for something to fit the theme of Stand, Hope, Fight.
The zine will be distributed for free online and I will also print copies to distribute locally. Anyone is welcome and encouraged to print and distribute as well. The zine will be 100% public domain and free. This is not and will never be a commercial endeavor.
Submit here:
Tumblr media
As an example of a written work, here's what I'll be contributing:
We are more divided by class than anything else. No matter your color, your shape, your size, your style, your beliefs, your past, present, or future:
We are all one people. We are all one voice. We can fight together and take the ruling class down. We outnumber them 99 to 1.

Hi can we please see your armadillo sweater?? Are they handmade or available for purchase somewhere?
Had to dig into family archives to find a photo of the sweatshirt in its prime but this is the family armadillo sweater that was traditionally earned after a child catches their first ‘dilla! This is me wearing it in the middle (my younger cousin to the right notably had not earned his sweater yet, cousin to the left is just not wearing hers).
Tumblr media
Unfortunately this was not a commercial sweatshirt as they were apparently created on demand by a friend of my uncle who was in the printing business. He no longer works, so the well-loved sweatshirts we have are all the more cherished as they age. One of my earliest memories is poking my head out the neck hole of my mom’s armadillo sweatshirt!

So we all know printers are evil. But which type of printer (inkjet, laser, plotter, etc.) would you say is the most versatile, and therefore best? And do you have any specific recommendations? Thanks.
Specific recommendations: some cheap laser printer, see that Verge article, they're all roughly fine.
If you don't do photos, you want laser, or nowadays LED. They're much, much less evil than inkjet, and they can even do colour pretty well if all you need are colour documents and the basics. Toner is a solid powder that gets fused into ink by heat, so it can't really dry out like inkjet, and it's very resilient.
Laser printers (more generally "xerographic printers") are actually pretty reliable because they're relatively mechanically simple, and toner lasts years, so all the usual gripes about printers becoming useless when not used for more than a week don't apply.
Inkjet is really where the bad reputation of printers comes from. Liquid ink is a nightmare to work with in a machine, it's sticky, it dries out, it clogs, it needs complicated jet systems to spray it, and it's a pain to handle. The reason you deal with this is because inket is basically the only way to produce bright, colourful, detailed photo prints, but nowadays you don't have to print every photo you take, just ones you want, so you can go through a commercial printer, your local photo shop probably has a suite of nice inkjets available at reasonable rates.

I sewed myself the strawberry dress... but made it a modernized 18th century round gown!
Tumblr media
Why yes, I am perched on my bathroom counter because my phone camera is a potato and there was no other way to get a non-blurry photo of the fabric print.
I've been wanting to make one of these dresses since I saw the Bernadette Banner video from a few years ago. Apparently this was a trend on CosTube and I'm just late to the party as always because I'm not a CosTuber.
Anyway, I used Mariah Pattie's fan/arc drafting method to get the conical bodice pattern based off my own measurements. No dress form, no commercial pattern. Doing it this way, it fit nearly perfectly on the first try.
The bodice has a lining layer that laces closed underneath and acts like a pair of stays without me having to make stays. I basically reinvented the wheel with the structured bodice lining, since it turns out Sewstine and Lina Piprek both did something similar for their versions of the robe a la Bernadette. But look how smoothly it fits!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The fabric is just a quilting cotton from Joann. It's in no way historically accurate, but I hand sewed the dress anyway because I don't use sewing machines. You can't see the skirt but it hits just below the knee and is 86" in circumference.
Tumblr media
And yes, it has pockets. 18th century style pockets that can be accessed through the skirt side slits, actually 🥰
