Hi, I’m Leucoratia and I write headcanons ands fics (sometimes)! If you want to request anything, see my rules and characters list!

Jotakak. Ladies and gentlemen, JOTAKAK. I love this pair so, so so much it’s a borderline obsession. These headcanons are going to be very influenced about my HCs for the characters’ personalities as well as sexualities (bcs even though Part 3 is my favourite part I can agree that it’s characters aren’t very fleshed-out).

This ask kind of escaped my control, I'm sorry it took so long to answer but balancing my first full-time job was very tricky! I'm not sure it's exactly what you expected because I explored how they got together and how they feel for each other more than misc headcanons, but I think it's still enjoyable :)

Note that I headcanon Jotaro as aroace, hence Jotakak is more of a queerplatonic relationship than a romance. Being allo myself, I don’t have any hindsight from the aroace experience and did my best to accurately portray an aroace person in a relationship. Please do tell if you have any comments or remarks about my portrayal of aroace people so I can do better!

Noriaki Kakyoin in Jotakak HC:

-So I hc Kakyoin as gay, so even in his fleshbud-possessed brain, he wanted to be an extra bitch to impress the local tall dark and handsome upon their first meeting.

-Like he had set up a whole scene, standing mysteriously on top of the stairs with his scarf flowing in the wind, you can’t tell me he didn’t want to swoon Jotaro right off his feet.

-(And that he did lmao)

-Kakyoin has some relationship experience, so he realizes pretty quickly that he has a crush on the other teen. He would be more attracted to Jotaro’s personality and traits than his body, although he can’t deny that he finds him very attractive.

-The redhead is a man of honor, hence he would only respect someone of the same caliber as he. In the beginning, he looked down upon the other man for his attitude, but quickly warmed up to him and truly started to value him after he proved time and time again how far he was willing to go for those he loved.

-Kakyoin truly realized his crush on Jotaro after the battling the Lovers:

“As they reunited after Jotaro defeated Steely Dan, Kaykoin allowed his eyes to graze the other man’s form. Jotaro was covered in cuts and bruises, blood trailing down his lips and brow, melting into his opal eyes. His breath hitched as he noticed the shoe imprints in his back. Just how much had he swallowed up for the sake of his grandfather? As Joseph fretted over his grandson, Kakyoin took in the teen’s ever-so determined aura. Even beat up and humiliated, his look retained an undying sense of determination and duty.

Jotaro had wordlessly trust him and his stand to keep The Lovers from hurting him and anyone else as it flew back to Steely Dan, relied entirely on Kakyoin’s ability to defeat the stand and save his grandfather as he was himself getting beat up and ridiculed in public. This realization filled the teen with a deep sense of respect for the other man, and even more so of admiration.

That day, Kakyoin knew his feelings for Jotaro were no longer those of a friend.”

-After realizing his feelings, he would try to be cool about it and stay the same. Keyword “try”.

-He’s so fucking stupid omg

-He would try to be coolTM all the time to impress. Kakyoin would be the type to infodump about literally anything and be like “Haha Jotaro did you know that sea snakes like Hydrophis cyanocinctus can breathe through their skin”.

-That’s his way of flirting btw.

-Sooooo akward and stupid about it. His cool guy persona does NOT work he is a certified nerd and would absolutely stop breathing when his eyes lock with his crush’s.

-If Jotaro shows the slightest bit of interest in what Kakyoin is saying he’ll talk his ear off with fun facts and videogame lore.

-Would probably make the first move. Kakyoin is a very thorough individual, and feelings are no different. This man made up at least 26 scenarios and planned a different speech for each and every one.

-It definitely keeps him awake at night.

-His love language would be words of affirmation, acts of service and quality time. Every night during their journey the two would meet in each other’s rooms and chill.

“What are you reading Jotaro?

-Marine Life magazine, he muttered, nose deep between the pages.

-Cool,” replied Kakyoin in a soft tone.” Tell me about it?”

Jotaro stayed silent for a few seconds before flipping all the way back to page 3. He cleared his throat and started reading:

“Sea stars belong to the phylum Echinodermata. That means they are related to sand dollars, sea urchins, sea cucumbers, and sea lilies. Overall, this phylum contains approximately 7,000 species”… Did you know that starfish have more than one stomach?

-I didn’t.” Kakyoin rested his hand on his chin, eyes locked on the other man with a dreamy, love-struck look “Keep going.”

Jotaro Kujo in Jotakak HCs:

-So keep in mind that to me Jotaro is an aroace KING so the feelings he harbors for Noriaki are not romantic. Which doesn’t mean this man wouldn’t die for him in a heartbeat.

-At first he didn’t think much of the redhead; although the more they traveled together, the closer they got. After all, it is nice to have someone else his age around during this whole mess.

-Jotaro was in a relationship exactly once (1) in middle school, to cross that item off his bucket list. Even then, he didn’t feel any of the so-called butterflies and giddiness. Must have not been the right girl.

-Aromanticism wasn’t spoken of very much in the 1980’s, especially in Japan, so all his life Jotaro thought that he hadn’t met the “right person” yet. Looking at fellow classmates, he failed to find a single one to his taste during his fourteen years of attending school.

-Holly joked around with her husband that their son was a very picky young man, and the teen ended up using that to justify why he never felt romantic love.

-Jotaro realized something was “wrong” with him when the topic of sexuality came into the picture in high school. Teen boys were passing around lewd magazines and sharing stories of their first times, all while the young man remained puzzled on what was so interesting about a pair of tits. Or a penis for that matter. Sure, men and women were beautiful to look at, but that was it.

-When he understood that everyone else was serious about all they were saying, he started to question himself and think something was wrong with him. Why can’t he be in love? Is his brain fucked up? Is he doomed to be alone forever and push everyone away?

-As he and other grew up, he found himself less and less in his friends and started to grow apart from them. He didn’t feel understood anymore.

-That changed when he met Kakyoin. Kakyoin who didn’t judge, Kakyoin who wouldn’t brag about girls and put him on the line for having no experience, Kakyoing who seemed to be a never-ending pit of random knowledge, Kakyoin who listened.

-Although the Joestar didn’t think much of him at first, he quickly started to appreciate him, slowly breaking his tough-cool-guy shell to expose the teenager underneath.

-He and Noriaki connect like he never did with anyone else. They fight over who knows more about a specific species of starfish (Jotaro does), they play video games whenever they can (Kakyoin always wins), and they have the dumbest inside jokes that makes Joseph and Avdol groan every single time.

-They grow so very close Jotaro starts to believe that maybe this is what love is. The warmth he feels for Noriaki, a warmth that he only ever felt for family, must be love. It has to be right?

-And so the young man indulges in fantasies. Fantasies in which they never kiss, they’re just…together. Kakyoin smiles and he loves him, and Jotaro loves him back and he’s not alone anymore.

-He would never, ever, make the first move; too scared to break their bond. Plus, it’s not like he wants more than they already have.

-Jotaro would just like to be held sometimes. Maybe have his hair played with. He’d like to fall asleep and wake up in Noriaki’s embrace, and give him a peck on the forehead. He’d like his friend to tease him about taking up all the space in bed. And friend’s can’t do that, right?

-Overall he’s just lost and very confused. Also very very awkward about touch. This man craves a hug good good-

Jotakak pair HCS:

-Their confession was messy. It all happened so fast and it wasn’t how either of them imagined to be, planned it to be. It wasn’t supposed to be like this.

“The three of them stood on the outer wall of Dio’s fortress, the setting sun casting the building in dark shadow. Soon, it will all be over. With Avdol and Iggy left to die in the manor and Polnareff having run to chase the vampire himself, the plan Jotaro came up with was more than hasty.

As they settled on him joining Polnareff and Kakyoin tagging along with Joseph to catch Dio from behind, they could all feel that none of them would come out of this the same as before. If they even could survive this.

The thought plagued Noriaki. Not knowing if he would live to see another day, he had tried this morning to finally confess to his friend but his tongue betrayed him. This was his last opportunity. If he should die, he would knowing that he had been true to his love for the man.

“A moment.” He asked Joseph, not waiting for an answer to turn on his heel and rush towards Jotaro, grabbing him by the hem of his sleeve.

“Jotaro”, he said in a breath” There is something that you must know, before we part”.

The younger Joestar turned around meeting the other man eye to eye, mouth agape, as if he was about to say something.

“I’m in love with you.”

For a moment, nothing was said. Jotaro kept opening and closing his mouth looking for a word, any word, anything better than this crushing silence. He had to say something, he couldn’t stay silent while Noriaki was here and he loved him and he looked so, so terribly sad-

“It’s ok, said the redhead ”You don’t have to say anything. I understand that it’s- it’s a lot.” He gulped “See you there Jotaro”.

And with that, Kakyoin jumped off the building to join Joseph, leaving Jotaro on the roof, still fumbling for his words. His meager “Wait” was lost in the wind before it could reach Kakyoin’s ears.

They truly met again months later, when Kakyoin opened his eyes for the first time after surviving grueling surgeries.

To Jotaro, that time when Noriaki briefly looked at him in a daze while he held his hand as he was rushing him towards the Speedwagon foundation’s helicopter, holding half of his guts in his hands, didn’t count as meeting again.

The second the teen learnt that his best friend was awake, he was out of his hospital bed and running through the corridors, a trail of nurses behind him and IV still half-stabbed in his arm. Bursting into the room, he almost collapsed at Kakyoin’s side, muttering excuses and “I love you”s over and over. The redhead only offered him a half-smile before closing his eyes again.

It would be two weeks before Jotaro could gaze in these emerald eyes again.”

-Once Kakyoin started getting better and Jotaro was no longer banned from his room (after trying to break in multiple times), the two would not leave each others’ side. More precisely, Jotaro would guard his lover’s bed with his life while the other teen faded in and out of consciousness.

-They never talked about their relationship while in the hospital. Such topic felt too.. sacred, to be tackled in a hospital room. But they allowed the change to happen, bit by bit.

-They always touched each other, in one way or another. A hand on a hand. A leg brushing against an arm. They were each other’s lifeline, their mutual contact grounding them in the moment and keeping the memories at bay.

-After Kakyoin was transferred to a clinic to fully heal, Jotaro had the habit of sneaking trinkets, food and books in his room; both enjoying the malicious pleasure of driving nurses and the redhead’s parents crazy.

-When Noriaki was finally released from the clinic, the two could finally fully find each other again. Obviously their activities were limited, with Kakyoin now permanently disabled and with fragile brand new organs, but they made it work. It’s not like they both enjoyed hiking or public dates anyways.

-The topic of their relationship was still difficult to branch, especially to Jotaro. They never went further than holding hands and hugging, but the Joestar could tell that the other teen wanted more than that. And he wasn’t sure that he could be the one to give him what he deserved anymore.

-To be honest, Jotaro is absolutely crushed with guilt after Egypt. Even though his partner survived, the nightmares plague him every night, and he can’t look at Kakyoin without feeling as if his heart was being stopped all over again.

-To him, his friend deserves more than this. More than whatever he can give. Because, well, Jotaro might love Kakyoin, but he isn’t in love with him. He’s never been in love with anyone, and really, he’s not sure he’s able to.

-Slowly, Jotaro begins to distance himself from his partner. He calls less. He comes over less. And it crushes them both, because Jotaro wants to give Noriaki the world and Noriaki only wants Jotaro to be with him.

-It gets ugly. It gets bad. Because Kakyoin bottles up all of his emotions and Jotaro thinks this is what is best.

-Finally, what had to happen happened. They fought. And they broke down.

-Noriaki screamed until his voice went raw that he only wanted Jotaro to stay, that after Egypt, he thought that they would fight the entire world together if they had to but they would be together. He screams that he feels lonely, he feels abandoned, he feels as if he’s 10 again because he’s betrayed by the one he loves and it hurts so much. He screams that he knows he’s broken, that he’s crippled and useless but that he thought that they would get over this as a couple; he screams that he loves Jotaro but he knows he doesn’t love him back and he justs wants to be done, he just wants everything to be over because if there isn’t Jotaro that what even is left for him? And he screams and he screams because he just wants Jotaro to fucking SAY SOMETHING and LOOK AT HIM-

-And Jotaro takes it in. He takes the punches, he takes the tears and the screams and the harsh words.

-And Jotaro crumbles.

-Because he’s just so, so guilty. He just wants what’s best for the most important person in his life and he fucked up. Again.

-He falls on his knees and he cries. And Kakyoin just looks at him from his wheelchair and says nothing, eyes red and throat raw.

-Jotaro cries and says that he’s sorry. That he loves him so much but that he can’t love him, that he tries so hard but he can’t give Noriaki what he needs and that he deserves better than a broken man.

-Once the dam is opened, there’s no closing it. And the words flow out of Jotaro’s mouth and he can’t stop them.

-He tells his lover everything he never said before. How he always felt different. How he’s never been in love, how he’s never been interested in sex, how he thought what he felt for Kakyoin was love because it was the only justification for such an intense feeling. How he never wants to leave his side, how he wants to be his but he can’t and-

-Kakyoin bends down from his wheelchair and hugs him.

-He’s not sorry, he said. About what he said. About being mad, because he’s still absolutely furious at Jotaro for doing what he did. But he understands and never in a million years would he throw what they have away because the other teen doesn’t, can’t return his feelings. He loves him, and even if they wont’ be able to be a typical couple, they can still make things work.

“Jotaro looked at Kakyoin with teary eyes, trying to still the shaking in his shoulders and the tremors of his voice. His knees rasped against the hard wooden floor and hurt from the fall, but it didn’t matter. Nothing mattered except Noriaki, who looked at him with understanding and with so much love it made him feel like he could conquer the world.

“Do you- do you still want me then?” he choked out in a hesitant, low voice.

“Always”.”

-After things calmed down, they had a serious talk about what they felt for each other and what they wanted. It was as clumsy as two teenagers could get, but in the end they both got their point across.

-So much changed after that. It felt as if both of them been freed from an immense weight and could be themselves again, all of their barriers having been torn down. The two were even more comfortable around the other, although they both retained their natural level of awkwardness.

-Today, you could call their relationship a QPR (queerplatonic relationship). Back then, not having words to put on their relationship, they just called it a partnership of some sorts.

-Expect a loooot of casual touching and hugs from now on. These two seem superglued to the other everywhere they go.

-Jotaro being draped over a drowsy Kakyoin on the couch was a common sight at the Joestar estate.

-Acts of service. So. Many. Acts. Of. Service. It’s almost a competition at this point. Basically “Let me get it for you” “No let ME get it for you”.

-The sentient stands make it ten times worse. You WILL have Star Platinum floating away to get tea and Hierophant Green unwinding itself to fetch a book. Holly learnt to ignore the floating objects for her own sanity.

-Would kill for one another (I mean they already did so-). If anyone dares give any shit to Noriaki about his disability they're going to get a taste of Star Platinum's fist. If Hierophant didn't beat him to it anyways.

-Works both ways btw. When they go back to high school, Jotaro's fangirls try to swarm him again but you bet Kakyoin is burning them down with a stare and getting the both of them away as fast as his wheelchair allows him to. If looks could kill...

-They’re so stupid together. Insane chaos energy. Kakyoin literally has the worst sense of humor and is absolutely THRIVING with Jotaro, king of practical jokes. No one is safe except Holly. Especially not Polnareff.

-Kakyoin basically lives at the Joestar estate now. He wants to get away from his parents whom he has a tense relationship with still, and with the rate at which he comes over he always has clothes and trinkets littering Jotaro’s room.

-Even though Holly always offers a guest room, they bunk together. Absolutely no exceptions.

(Jotaro finally got his head scratches and hugs thank god)

-They talk endlessly. They tell each other everything, from their deepest and darkest worries to the colour of their socks. Jotaro opens up on his resentment towards his absent father while Kakyoin tries to share how his relationship with his family became so difficult, and how having a stand whilst being queer made him feel like he was alone against the world.

-Whenever Kakyoin sleeps over, the both of them tend to sleep better. Less nightmares.

-And when one of them jolts awake, a scream dying in their throat, the sight of their loved one laying peacefully next to them always soothes their worries.

-When the nightmares get too intense and the other wakes up, they will gently coax their partner through it, holding them in their arms and murmuring sweet nothings in their ear as tears flow freely.

-Kakyoin is a very guarded man, but Jotaro is the only one he feels safe enough with to express his emotions and his fears. Even then, him breaking down after a nightmare is a very rare occurrence. He prefers to keep to himself and hide away weaknesses like this. Suffice to say, when it does happen, it’s not easy on the both of them.

-Jotaro has the most nightmares. In the first year after Egypt, getting a good night of sleep was almost impossible for the teen. In the darkness behind his eyelids, he would always see the glimmer of red eyes and sharp teeth, and blood, oh god so much blood-

-Having Noriaki around helped. His partner was the one to drag his sorry ass to bed most of the times anyways.

-They help each other with homework as a form of bonding. Kakyoin is more into mathematics and literature than biology and physical science, so they cancel each other out. The only subject both of them are absolutely helpless at is…Japanese….

-They both think all of the literary rules are stupid for different reasons, but they agree on that.

-They don’t voice their affection for each other a lot, both of them preferring actions to words. But they do say “I love you” from time to time as reassurance.

-Jotaro helps Noriaki with his physical therapy and such. It keeps the redhead going, even when hi muscles are sore and his legs feel like puddy. He wants to walk next to his partner again.

-The taller teen somehow becomes Kakyoin’s doctor's best frienemy. Best friend because he always keeps him on his medication and pushes him through his exercises; worst enemy because he has the tendency to arbitrarily kidnap his friend out of checkups.

-When Noriaki was being difficult, Jotaro always knew how to rile him up:

“Come on Kakyoin, you just need to try and stretch your legs and we’ll be done for today”, said a nurse in a sweet but harsh tone. She had been trying to make her patient stretch after his session for a good twenty minutes and she was getting nothing out of him. Even with the patience of a saint, she was itching to give the teen a piece of her mind.

“Hm. Cmon’ Nori, let’s go home. I can see you don’t have it in you.

-EXCUSE ME?!,” spit the younger teen, a newfound fire in his eyes, “Shut up and fucking watch me Kujo”.

-Mutual infodumping. Their relationship is literally autism x autism. WILL take turns talking about their special interests.

-Jotaro would take Noriaki to the oceanographic museum while the redhead shows his partner around the observatory and planetarium. (Kakyoin is a space nerd to me sorry I’m projecting-)

-When they get older and the topic of college gets broached, Kakyoin is the one to push Jotaro to study abroad. And well, if he just happens to secure a full scholarship at Florida University’s department of Astronomy, a famous real-estate millionaire says it’s just a coincidence.

-They live together at university. Contrary to popular belief, Jotaro is the organized one. Kakyoin leaves a mess everywhere he goes. His mugs are literally everywhere (and he’ll be damned if he picks them up himself).

-They both take up work at the SPW Foundation, Kakyoin being confined to the support lines due to his injuries. Doesn’t mean he doesn’t try to sneak out and assist Jotaro on terrain or anything.

-In the end, both obtain their PHD with flying colors. Jotaro becomes a renewed marine biologist while Kakyoin devotes himself to research and teaching.

-The other crusaders learn of their relationship pretty quickly. Muhammad is very understanding, being demiromantic himself; while Polnareff and Joseph struggle a bit more with the concept. They're both trying really hard though.

"So, uh, when's the wedding guys?, said Polnareff in a joking manner

-There won't be a wedding you absolute waste of a bowel movement-"

-After many years at each other’s side, they relationship is the strongest it’s been. And even though it’s not your typical love story, they both wouldn’t have it any other way.

-And well, if they do decide to expand their little family…time will tell.

I mean seriously can you imagine the chaos? Raising a kid with your bestie? Everyone should brace themselves because little Jolyne and daddy Nori are about to be their worst nightmare.

Do people ever give you a hard time here?

Is this about the thing regarding other ask blogs? I read they’re getting some mean comments. But no, not really, no. In fact, most of you are ridiculously kind and sweet whenever you interact with me and I appreciate that.

There have been some people who disagree with things I say sometimes though, like those who insist Alucard is this or that way instead (usually with regards to his sexuality). And about that, I will say this once—

Idgaf. They can write their own Alucard fantasies if they’re unsatisfied. I don’t really need the Castlevania police breathing down my neck. Besides, Alucard’s portrayal in various media hasn’t been the most consistent. He went from aroace-like (games) to possibly poly and confirmed bi (Netflix).

So, really, take your pick and run with it. It’s free to dream. Write the content you want to read. My HCs often portray him to be monogamous rather than poly though (and I write gn when requested as idc either). I just think monogamy suits his character and personality better—to be all-or-nothing with one special person, regardless of sex, esp after his traumatic Taka/Sumi rape experience. Cause if that scene was the writers’ way to “unlocking” his poly and bi side, it’s a damn horrible and unnecessarily dubious one and I’m not for it. But that’s just me.

Okay I know its been a while but everytime I come back into hetalia I just fall in love with your England relationship chart every time!! Its so good!!! I love the little things like the same time he's married and deeply in love with Portugal he's getting his back blown out by Spain his husbands brother like wgrgshegqgsy sorry 😭 its just a great chart I love it!! But I was wondering if you can would you be able to tell us your own hc for his relationship with people like China, Russia, the nordics? Its okay if not!! Again I love all your England hc!! :^)

OKAY i was going through (one of my many) hetalia withdrawal phases and being crushed by work but now that im on break I just had to answer this ;-; thank you so much for loving my content enough to send an ask even though I've been dead for so long ;;-;; <3

I cant guarantee the quality of these hcs (when could I ever) but here are some of my thoughts on England and China:

I must say to start off that being ethnically Chinese and having grown up in Tianjin, I deeply disagree with Himas portrayal of China, so lets just forget that ever happened~ :,)

So what do I think China’s actually like? Its impossible to summarise in a couple words, but my overall impression has always been that he is simultaneously a very warm and very cold person. In fact, perhaps its best to say hes a reverse tsun? In this sense he is in some ways the opposite of England — with acquaintances and colleagues he is courteous and good-humoured, with friends he is generous and lively, with family he is fussy and scolding — but with almost no one is he truly honest or vulnerable. This trait means everyone who have known China can be generally split into two groups — those who are completely comfortable with his mode of interaction and either aren’t interested in his inner thoughts or don’t mind not knowing everything, and those who are made distinctly uncomfortable by his inscrutability.

I would say England belongs more to the second group. As pointed out, this is because in this sense they are opposites. Arthur prefers to come across as respectable, serious, even cold when it suits him, but is actually a warm-hearted and deeply passionate man. Even as he puts on his front, he hopes to be understood. China, on the other hand, is not at all interested in being seen through. Perhaps people will understand if I say he is much like France in this sense — for them, good humour is both a basic and essential form a respect towards others and a shield, which obscures that which is truly important to them. England, despite all his scheming, has little patience this kind of emotional obfuscation. When it comes down to it, England would much rather get to the point and either reach a mutually beneficial agreement or come to blows, so the fact that he feels China is often not being entirely straight with him is at best unsettling and at worst infuriating. When he was younger (and brasher), this sometimes led to loud declarations and privateer-style chair-kicking (think Opium War era, where Arthur thought he was absolute shit + a healthy dash of racism), which was always met with either disdainful silence or barbed comments. As he has matured, he has grown to respect both China’s grace as a host as a virtue in and of itself, and his emotional reservedness as a sound political/diplomatic strategy, though he has not gotten over his personal discomfort.

For his part, China views England very objectively, with no particular positive or negative emotional attachments. One might think that because the Opium Wars and general Western arm-twisting brought to an end China’s monarchy and to some extent its glory age as a world power, he might harbour resentment towards Arthur. But — and here is where I draw from actual personal experience for my hcs — most Chinese dont have any particular feelings of anger towards Europe or America, as opposed to the way they might feel towards Japan, for example. In fact, China admires and acknowledges Europe and England has having become very “refined,” artistically and technologically innovative, and generally sophisticated. Personally, I don’t like thinking of human development as being linear and of any culture as reaching a higher level of sophistication than any other, but there is definitely this feeling in China that Western culture has “become” something worthy of respect. While he once might have been angry, and he certainly found many of England’s methods in the 18/1900s boorish and distasteful, overall for China the strong dominating the weak is a political reality, and in the 1800s he was weak.

I want to emphasize here that just because I characterise China this way, does not mean that I personally approve or disapprove of these worldviews. I have always hesitated to write about him, a country that I love and am arguably more familiar with than Europe, because of the imminently political implications, but I’m answering this ask now because I think not doing so is also doing a magnificent and deeply complex country a disservice. Hetalia is eurocentric enough as it is. I want to do my part to correct that, and it makes me happy that there are people like OP who are interested enough to listen. A Rant About Ikesen’s Treatment of Motonari

I’ve been away from tumblr for a while but I had to come back for this.

So something I’ve noticed throughout playing Ikesen is the way that the game is very biased agains Motonari and I think it needs to be addressed because he is the only brown character and his portrayal is full of harmful stereotypes against brown men. I love this game but I haven't seen a single person acknowledge how badly Motonari is treated by the creators and the fandom as a result of that.

Also any racist comments will be blocked.

Possible route spoilers under the cut…

So lets start with the obvious, he is the only dark skinned character in Ikesen and when I first started playing I was so happy about that because finally (regardless of his ethnicity which honestly in this portrayal of him can be up for debate, I HC him as south East Asian) we are getting some representation. Throughout the game though I started noticing a lot of harmful stereotypes being thrown onto him that none of the other characters face.

Both him and Nobunaga are relatively misogynistic, I’m not denying that at all. However the way it is portrayed in their routes is very different. Nobunaga should in fact have sexual harassment charges, yet its romanticized repeatedly throughout his route. Motonari on the other hand treated MC as a possession the same way Nobunaga did, however he is shown as aggressive and scary as opposed to Nobunaga being shown as sexy and romantic.

There is also a difference in their respective CG’s

Motonari’s CG is shown much more threatening and aggressive than Nobunaga’s

That brings me to my next point. Every other antagonist so far is shown to have a gentle and redeemable side. Kenshin threatened to wage war on the whole country while keeping MC locked in a cell yet he is still shown to be gentle and romantic. Kennyo repeatedly kidnaps and threatens MC’s life in other routes yet he is shown as a gentle monk who just wants revenge for his fallen brethren. Why doesn't Motonari get that level of consideration and empathy? Why is he, the only brown man, shown as an aggressive two-dimensional brute in every single route that isn’t his own? And this is a harmful stereotype that shows itself in all kinds of media. Brown men are depicted as predatory and aggressive both in fiction and real life.

This leads me to his ethnicity (I’m only talking about Ikesen’s portrayal of Motonari, I am well aware he was a Japanese warlord irl). In his route there is a part where he is talking about slavery and colonialism. As a South Asian woman I completely understand his perspective and its what got me thinking about this subject in the first place.

This subject is clearly personal to him. These lines, the way he looks as opposed to the other characters, and the fact that he speaks Spanish (around this time period the Philippines were being colonized by Spain), leads me to head cannon him as South East Asian, specifically Filipino. However, historically, Motonari comes from a region of Southern Japan, which is known as Hiroshima today. Cybird meant to market him as Okinawan. A large part of the reason Motonari is being treated this way by Cybird stems from the fact that people from Okinawa face racism from mainland Japan. Considering the fact that this game was made in Japan, and knowing what we know about their history of colonization, racism, and east asian beauty standards revolving around colorism, I am honestly not surprised that Motonari is being portrayed like this.

Until now they just showed his reason for fighting the Oda to be “oh I just want to watch the world burn for no reason”. But no that’s not the reason. These lines. That’s the reason. A lot of the context behind those lines comes from the fact that comes from because people from mainland Japan treated Okinawan people as slaves. He doesn’t want to see another colonizer come into power. Sure he’s a bit of an extremist but historically people who have this ideology have always been portrayed as savage and barbaric and “against the betterment of society” (think Jet from atla or even Malcom x). It’s no different in ikesen. The devs are clearly villainizing this ideology. Let’s not forget the fact that irl Hideyoshi invaded Korea. And the fact that anime and otome games are part of Japan’s way of erasing their war crimes and rebranding themselves to the rest of the world. It’s blatantly obvious here with the way they’re villainizing Motonari for having a perfectly valid reason to fight the Oda. If Japan stays divided they can’t invade and colonize other countries like the Philippines can they? Anti-colonialism = bad.

Lastly I want to talk about how they downplayed his abilities as a leader and a warlord in his own right. In all the other routes he is depicted as less educated and frankly “dumb”, and it shows itself in his speech patterns too. Compared to Nobunaga and Mitsuhide, Motonari’s speech is stereotypically “less educated” and “lower class”. Yet he is just as much of a leader as any of the other warlords. However instead of acknowledging that, the game chooses to focus on his crimes and behavior as a pirate, instead of his role as the head of the Mouri clan.

At one point Kicho even compares his intelligence to a fifth grader which just rubs me the wrong way because lets take a moment to actually look at Motonari’s abilities. He is multilingual, has knowledge of global politics and economics, is an amazing businessman, and extremely analytical. He is literally known as the God of Decit, yet I did not hear that name once until his route came out. His strategies are good enough to be called a god, yet that is completely buried in the other routes in order to simplify his character into a trigger happy psychopath and a violent brute. He is just as smart as Nobunaga yet he is not given the credit he deserves.

Both Motonari and Nobunaga are extremely similar yet because of the horribly biased portrayals, Motonari is one of the least popular characters whereas Nobunaga is the second most popular. It makes me angry to see people in the fandom choosing to blindly hate Motonari without recognizing the fact that this stems from a frankly racist portrayal of an extremely intelligent and powerful character. Although truthfully, I blame the devs because if they had given his character even half the consideration and depth the others got, this would not be the case.

You can disagree with me if you want. I am simply bringing attention to something I haven’t seen being addressed.

I hope in future routes, events, and sequels he is treated better by the devs and and the fandom. Please stop projecting racist stereotypes onto brown men.

The One MCU Rumour That Bothers Me - And Why

Self indulgent and introspective rant about *that* MoM casting rumour under the cut - be aware of potential 'spoilers' and unnecessary length.

So, those of you that follow me probably know that I’m pretty laid back.

Okay, granted, I can still get angry over CACW 5 years on (it’s my hyper fixation, what can I tell you?) but even my rants on that topic are, I think, pretty balanced – and certainly free from any ‘I hate Marvel/this is a crime against cinema/they’re never getting any of my money again’ hyperbole.

I don’t comment casting rumours. I don’t have a defined way that I want to see the MCU play out, I don’t get involved in fandom drama or comment on other peoples’ HCs, I don’t go on angry twitter rants about every choice I disagree with – I even kept my mouth shut about Steve’s ending, FFS.

I have always felt that being a fan of the MCU should be a light-hearted thing, an enjoyable thing, and – although it’s meant a lot to me, and helped me make some long lasting and genuine friendships – to be honest, I’ve never thought of it as being that deep…

And yet, the rumour that Tom Cruise is going to be playing a Tony Stark Variant in MoM has… bugged me. Like, actually nagged at me – to the point that I’ve actually left comments on some of the news stories about it. Which I never do…

And, of course, the response to these comments has been predictable. Amongst the many people who share my anxiety, there are also plenty of people to tell me ‘It’s not recasting Tony Stark, it’s just a variant’, that ‘It’s not all about RDJ, and you fangirls need to be less obsessive’, that ‘Iconic roles are recast all the time – look at the Joker and Batman’.

And, you know, I might feel better if any of that was the source of my discomfort… But it really isn’t.

For one, I’m not actually a Robert Downey Jr Fangirl. I’m a Tony Stark fangirl. And although I fell in love with RDJs portrayal of him, to me, he’s just an avatar for the fictional creation I love. I couldn’t tell you the first thing about RDJ. I don’t know his kids names. I couldn’t name more than 2 other movies he’s been in (only one of which I’ve actually seen). I couldn’t tell you anything about his past, beyond the vague ‘comeback of the century’ story that everyone knows… I’ve never felt any ‘protective’ instinct towards the actor before – to be honest, if I ever see a news story about him personally, I’m as uninvested as I would be in a story about any Hollywood A Lister.

Secondly, I know this isn’t Marvel ‘Recasting Tony Stark’, any more than Richard E Grant was them ‘recasting Loki’ or Tobey and Andrew were them ‘Recasting Spiderman’. I understand the concepts of variants.

…I mean, I’ll be honest, I was never enamoured with the concepts of variants, or the multiverse. For a while, I wondered if that was the issue here – the fact that I’m somewhat sceptical of an ever sprawling multiverse, and the way it potentially destroys the all important internal logic of the MCU, and possibly reduces the stakes… But that didn’t quite feel right, as an explanation. After all, NWH and the Loki Series proved that this concept could be done in an engaging, internally consistent way – my distrust of the Multiverse concept didn’t affect my excitement about or enjoyment of either of those projects. And I didn’t have the same reaction to rumours that Patrick Stewart might be appearing as Professor X, or that Hugh Jackman may show up as Wolverine. I may not much like those rumours either, but none of them made me think I was ‘done with Marvel’

It wasn’t even a reaction against Tom Cruise per se – although I’ll admit, I’m not a fan, and I don’t think he’d be a good fit for Tony Stark. But, like I say, I’ve always been able to separate the actor from the character playing them, and it’s not like I’m a huge fan of all the other actors in the MCU…

But still, this one rumour that just kept bugging me… Even leading me to fear that I could be turned off of the movie franchise I loved so much…

And then, tonight, it hit me – whilst watching The Simpsons.

It was one of those low-quality, mid-noughties episodes from long after the show’s heyday. And, like the cliché millennial I am, I made a trite comment about the show having gone past it’s prime long ago…

Because it moved away from the relatable storylines that made it so popular in the first place…

Because they kept breaking the ‘reality’ of the show and contradicting past storylines for the sake of a cheap joke or a shock…

Because they kept cashing in on celebrity voice overs that didn’t fit the show or mean anything…

Because they became naval gazing, and self-referential, breaking the fourth wall once an episode to smugly elbow the viewer in the ribs…

Ah. This was it then.

The Tom Cruise Rumour had made me anxious that this was Marvels ‘Simpsons Season 10’ moment.

When that clicked, I realised what made the ‘Tom Cruise’ rumour different to previous cameos, or the other ‘spoilers’ on reddit.

Because, for one, it so clearly seemed like ‘cashing in’ for its own sake. That’s why the ‘calm down, he’s only going to be in it for like ten minutes’ comments did not actually calm me down – because that was kind of the problem.

Andrew and Tobey weren’t in NWH for a single scene gag – they were written in as a fundamental part of the story, making the cameo more than just a marketing gimmick or a cheap attempt at ‘fan service’. Richard E. Grant was chosen because he fit a role that was already being written as part of the Loki series arc – they didn’t bung that reference in simply because they wanted to include that actor. If Patrick Stewarts Professor X turns up, he will at least be building on a multi-movie legacy, and bringing an already well loved character into the universe…

But a ten-minute cameo from Tom Cruise is nothing more than an in-joke with the fans – and a pretty cynical one at that. Which means a ten-minute cameo from him will be nothing more than a smug reminder that we’re all watching a movie, and a way to make us feel like part of the clique.

Maybe other people will like that sort of meta humour that makes them feel smart and special… But I personally liked watching and immersing myself in these stories, without constantly being reminded that they aren’t real.

And, to be honest, it felt like cynically ‘cashing in’ on the character of Tony Stark – and, before you say that I only think this because I’m a Tony Stark fan-

Really, this Tony Stark fan would rather you just left him dead. At least for a couple of years.

And I say that not to protect Tony’s legacy – but to protect the future of the MCU.

Richard E Grant didn’t feel like a cheap attempt to appeal to Loki fans – because Loki was standing right there. Andrew and Tobey weren’t in NWH to bring in the Spiderman fans – it was a Spiderman movie. I could at least believe that Professor X or Wolverine might be used in a way that added something to the story – at the very least, they both have established characters and histories to do something with…

But referencing Tony Stark yet again (through a brand-new iteration, only known because of an IRL casting drama that has become urban legend with the fans) when his death was used as the emotional end point of the whole first phase just a few years ago, feels very much like an attempt to… keep milking the golden goose? Okay, you can’t milk a goose, but you know what I mean – it feels like the studio is already slipping into cheap appeals to previously popular characters rather than taking the time to develop new ones. Almost like they’re scared of the risk they’re taking – like they want the safe, familiar crowd pleasers in there…

All in all, this one rumour renews all my previous worries about the multiverse concept – that it isn’t going to be used as an internally consistent mechanism to explore new stories (as always seemed a very big ask) but rather a magic wand to be used whenever they want a hashtaggable moment in there.

And it makes me worry that, in a bid to hold onto their momentum, Marvel are going to move away from the carefully developed, character driven stories that built that momentum in the first place. As so many popular properties have done when they ‘jumped the shark’.

It makes me worry that they’re going to keep writing ‘safe’ characters into the movies that could be used to introduce new ones – or, worse still, that they’re going to start cramming those references into places that they don’t fit.

It makes me worry that they��re going to write scripts based on whichever masturbatory fancasts are popular on twitter, rather than building a long term, interwoven story.

It makes me worry that they’re going to turn the MCU into a parody of itself, where the jokes are always between the fanboys and the director, at the expense of the characters themselves.

It makes me worry that the producers are going to go for the cheapest shots, building bigger and bigger ramps over larger and larger sharks, until the whole thing becomes meaningless

It makes me worry that I’m going to see a Marvel Movie in a few years time, and make the same comments we all make about the Simpsons now – and that makes me sad.

And, okay, I know I haven’t seen the movie yet – so, maybe Tom Cruise will surprise me. Maybe he’ll be a revelation in the role, bringing something so important and meaningful to the story that it’ll become clear why they didn’t give an up and coming actor a chance, or explore the idea of a female Tony Stark variant, or frame Tony as a person of colour, or any of the other ideas that might, on the face of it, have seemed more interesting…

But, in any case, I at least feel better that I’ve worked it out – and I feel better now that I’ve sat here and written it out. So. That’s something, I guess?

Updated ramble abt my hcs for Deut-Munk-Alonzo as a family unit

Idk I just really like to picture Old D as like. A dude who's got a lot of love in his heart but is bad at giving it to his immediate family. So like. Great tribe grandpa; great guy to ask for advice or to bend an ear; horrible, awful job at raising Munk and Alonzo.

And like with my own niche headcanons a big part of it is his grief over Victor. Who knows how many litters of kittens he's sired? Not him. He'll never meet most of them; if he has he doesn't know it. There have been a small handful that he got to have any knowledge of or hand in their raising and the one he saw to adulthood died. Was killed. And he wasn't there. And now there's not only a little kitten bit an even littler one?

Like. I think ultimately he's neglectful of them, but in different ways. With my hcs Alonzo never really saw a father in Deut bc he showed up as a baby and Deut had already decided to distance himself beyond what was absolutely necessary. He wasn't going to get attached only to fail again. Meanwhile, Deut had already started building a relationship with Munk. @whitmerule put it in a way that I liked a few days back, while discussing some stuff related to munk growing up following Victor's death, and it was that "Deut is not, in fact, very in touch with munk's inner life." And that was the puzzle piece I've been missing.

Bc Munk loves Deut. Has him on a pedestal. And Deut very clearly loves Munk; trusts him; relies on him; is frequently physically affectionate. And none of those necessarily mean shit about how well they really communicate with each other. Deut was a pretty good dad for Munk's formative time (I'd say years but they're cats. Then again I already used turns of phrase involving hands. So I mean) but at that point there hadn't really been anything big or hard in his little kittie life. Then he watches his brother get killed and brings home a baby and has to beg Deut to let him keep said baby.

And a big thing I myself have mentioned is that Munk "self-parentified" but that's not at all fair to him when the parent of the house was clearly not going to be a parent to a baby who needed a parent. So he started making himself a caregiver by like the equivalent to 10 years old, and Deut just. let him. Brought up having someone else watch him now and then, maybe a comment abt how much Munk has matured/how much Munk is shouldering, but no actual alleviation and taking of the reigns.

But to Munk that was fine bc dad was still doing the same things dad always did! There were cuddles and lullabies for Munk when he wasn't with Alonzo. There were stories and talks that, although shallow and never getting to what it was Munk wanted to work through, did leave him feeling reassured in his dad's faith in him and his ability to do all these things that he was undertaking. So he kept undertaking them, and adding more to the plate.

I've said before that I don't think Munk is the next leader. I've implied before but idk if I ever outright said that Munk didn't even want to be a Protector; he wanted to be a Storyteller, or an Actor; he wanted like Gus. And obviously he can do both, like Skimble can be another Protector while primarily being the Train cat, but that's just it. For Munk, Protector is his primary duty and while it fulfills his emotional need to be a protective figure, it's also just. Not what he wanted to do with his life. But it's a hole that was left by Victor's death, and someone had to fill it. And dad was so proud when he announced that he was interested in becoming a Protector; let everyone know he had such a brave son, such a strong son. And besides, if he can protect the whole tribe then he can clearly protect Alonzo.

And for Alonzo, I really like to look at his usual portrayal with more of an emphasis on the “Bravado” and “Uncertain” aspects of his character. Not that the vanity isn’t there, but that I tend to see it more as a side effect of maintaining his bravado. Anyway. I tend to assume any relationship he has with Deuteronomy is minimal and more on the level of neighbors than family. Deut wasn’t the one who raised him. That was Munk and that was Jelly and sometimes it was Jenny and Skimble, too. He doesn’t particularly resent Deut, mainly because he just. doesn’t have any personal feelings about him. Munk adores him, and Munk isn’t wrong about things, so he gives Deut deference, but it’s not self-motivated like it is for Munk.

Since I like focusing on the Bravado and Uncertain aspects of Alonzos, I tend to see a public facing Alonzo and a private Alonzo. Public-facing Alonzo is suave, seductive, and coolly disengaged most of the time, and he learned this persona on his own and with the help of a select few friends. Private Alonzo is a kid raised by another kid, who realized the strain being put on Munk quickly once he was old enough to, and responded by trying, in his own position as an even younger kid, to try and maneuver out of needing Munk’s care, so that the elder of the two could have time to act his own age.

But at the same time. Munk needs someone depending on him to feel right with himself. and Alonzo wasn’t able to see Jelly regularly enough to fully depend on her. And he loves Munk and wants Munk to be happy and calm. And hey. Munk does a good job at being a warm,, safe anchor for Lon. So he and Munk have a weird, very codependent relationship where they both know they should probably stretch their legs and grow some distance between each other, but neither really feels safe doing that.

And Alonzo becoming a Protector is then, I think, a compromise, from his point of view. He's still around Munk often; still looking to him as the leader and still depending on his guidance, but capable in his own right. Except of course if you know me you know I think that any skill Alonzo would display in a low stress normal situation would likely not be something he can do in a real, high stakes moment.

If you know me you also know that I think Munk was very ambivalent about letting Alonzo be a Protector, to the point of somewhat actively kneecapping him an reassuring him that Munk could take the really big threats on himself. So basically he saw it as a compromise of the same two outcomes as Alonzo, only both were trying to get more out of the opposite goal of the other.

And I'm still not sure about Deut's feelings on Alonzo. I don't think he was completely absent, even if he did just about nothing to raise the kid, and I don't think he's just devoid of care or worry for him. But if most of his actual connections with Munkustrap are superficial, then it'd be a miracle to find anything for him and Alonzo.

Alonzo is a walking reminder of Deut's failure. From his ibvious lineage to his similar coat pattern, he is Victor's son. And Victor's is dead. And Deut couldn't save him. And Deut has countless children, all over the country, that he doesn't know a thing about and has never done a thing for. I'm still unsure where I'm fitting Grizabella, likely Victor's littermate, and she leaves. She actively left. So with all of that hitting deut on Victor's death, and Alonzo's family resemblance, I think deut just like. Shut down. He couldn't be a dad, that was obvious; what up could do was be an encouraging community leader, so he did that. I do think post-ball, he and Alonzo might start to build an actual relationship? I like to think it anyway.

I have seen not long ago a post about "spain's dark side" so...your opinion about that? (I kinda have a feeling of knowing why himaruya came up with that and, if I am right, I am not sure if I like it. It's not that I don't like the dark side thing, but if the reason is what I think, then I don't fancy it)

Great question! Please excuse the length of this response in advance, and if I go off on any tangents. To directly answer your question: I have a horrible feeling that Dark Spain is inspired by the Spanish Black Legend/La leyenda negra, and I don't like that at all. You've really hit on an important topic here, so I'm going to extend this discussion. I call this upcoming piece: Why I don't like Dark Spain and why we, as fans and creators, need to be mindful of how we enjoy our beloved series.

Side note before we begin: I'm going to be talking from a writer's perspective, since this is what I mostly do. My opinion is just that, nothing more. Some will agree with me, others won't, and that's okay. If you're happy with the terms, let's crack on.

Part 1: "Dark" characters I'm not against 2P or "dark" versions of a character if it's required for a particular setting. Let me show you what I mean, using some fic plots I just pulled from my head: Example one: You've got this gritty, fantasy gangster city plot. You use a real city as your location, but the characters are human. Antonio's the leader of a huge criminal organisation and therefore he will do incredibly bad things. It's trigger warnings ahoy. Is this portrayal okay? Sure. (read on before you hit that reply button) Example two: You're writing a horror fic. Antonio's a sexy merman who's more likely to decorate his cave with your entrails, than serenade you on a beach. Is this plot fine? Absolutely. It's dark af, but you're writing sexy merman horror. It kinda’ comes with the territory. Did you see how I wrote "fantasy" and "human" in bold? And did you see that I used Antonio, not Spain? There's a reason. I personally believe in this: When your story uses Hetalia characters in their human form (i.e: Antonio is just Antonio, he does not represent Spain), there's much more freedom and flexibility. I've read many excellent works with darker themes who use real locations alongside human versions of the characters, and do so brilliantly. They're wonderful stories, and they don't cause harm. They're fiction. Fantasy. Fiction. Did I mention fiction? On the flip side: When we are writing the characters as country personifications, who represent the people and the history, we must take proper precaution. The same applies to writing about historical events. (To be continued down below.)

Part 2: Dark Spain

As someone who's been in fandom 10+ years now, my problem with Dark Spain is this: a number of creators back in the old days seemed to agree with my Black Legend theory/concerns, and yet they willingly made content for it. Not everybody did this, but I certainly saw some who thought "wow dark crazy Spain because Inquisition", applied it to certain ships because "ohh angst leads to romance, what a plot" and that is wrong on so many levels. If you know the Spanish Black Legend, then you know how bad this is. It's an incredibly difficult topic because it is, in the simplest sense, massive propaganda designed to seriously damage a country's image. I welcome Spanish input on this, but personally I think using this as some edgy portrayal of Antonio in your fics is insulting. Don't bloody well do it.

(Please note that the fandom is MUCH better now, but it doesn't change the fact it has, and could still happen. I used past tense for a reason, as I do think things are improving.)

Russia is another character which suffers this treatment, and I do think we have a responsibility to be considerate. Many countries have done awful things, mine (the UK) included, and yet our characters have escaped receiving this Dark persona. It's not fair, it really isn't. It's a poor judgment call on Himaruya's behalf if my theory is true. If I'm wrong, then this argument is void. Either way I feel like Himaruya should've specified how and why Dark Spain came about. Part 3: Historical writing

Here's where it gets interesting. I'm not saying "don't write historical hetalia fanfiction", and I never will say it because historical fiction exists. You can go in your local bookshop and boom, people are making real money off it.

I'm not one of those lucky sorts, but I am contributing to that genre myself. Despite lots of magic, fantasy and general artistic license, my story Gatito can be considered historicaI.

It's set in England, 1569. Spain and the Netherlands are two of the main characters, and yes, their conflict is referenced. It coincides with the timeline, and all the while I write them as personifications, I can't pretend that tension between them doesn't exist. If I did, that'd probably be even more insulting to their history, and no doubt confusing for the reader.

The main plot is a daft mash of Arthur misusing his magic, a vile fictional man from Antonio's court who wants his head, and poor Netherlands and Portugal get wrapped up in the drama along the way.

The Dutch conflict is featured, but not the plot. The event is occurring right in the middle of a fictional disaster which Antonio is trying to overcome. It's acknowledged, but it's on the side, to put it simply.

I use human names (Antonio and Abel) and explore that situation from an emotional, human perspective. I do not claim that Abel is a victim, and no one thinks he is either. Personal HC time here: I don't think any of the characters look back at their history and think "wow, poor me". Everyone's made mistakes, and they've all played a role in hurting someone else. My history teacher once told me this: The more you look, the more you see. There's many sides to a story, and even to this day, I doubt historians have truly, faithfully documented events so that it's fair on every nation involved. That's why we need to try and learn history from multiple perspectives, and why when writing hetalia characters during a historical event, we should show the reader as many viewpoints as possible. If you don't, then... well. I frown at you. More on this in part 4.

Part 4: Conclusion/advice

I won't pretend to be a saintly figure in the fandom, and this rant is a bit of a mess, but I hope you get what I'm on about. Thank you if you're still reading.

I'm going to finish with a bit of advice that has helped me have a positive time, and allowed me to create works for a series I really love:

1- If your story is historical, and you purposely want to paint a country in a bad light, think before you do. Don't slander another country for the sake of your comfort character or ship. If your story is set during a battle then yes, they can moan about the opposition, but don’t go hardcore. You know what I mean.

2- Research, research, research.

3- You want to write a particular character. Their human name is unconfirmed, or you don't know a part of their history, but you want to write about it. What should you do? Talk. I had this very dilemma regarding Portugal's surnames, and I just asked Portuguese mutuals on Tumblr for help. I received numerous valid responses in under an hour, and I felt better for it. 10/10 highly recommend.

4- If you've gotta' write Dark Spain: Keep. It. Fictional. If you don't believe my theory behind it, cool, crack on. But if you agree with me, then yeah, I've said it enough. Respect the country.

5- DO explore history. It's fascinating.

6- If you write historical hetalia and you feel that something might be misunderstood: PLEASE USE DISCLAIMERS, END NOTES ETC. I write number 6 from experience. There is a scene in Gatito where a significantly stressed Antonio attempts to summarise the Dutch conflict. He's being blamed for countless fictional issues, and rather than think things through, he blames himself for Abel's pain as well. He does it on a purely emotional basis. Have you ever had that really bad day, and things keep getting worse? Someone comes along and says "you did x y z and I'm mad", and rather than argue your side, you accept it?

That's Antonio in that scene. I know it is, because that's how I intended it to be read. His answer is flawed, to say the least, but in his human heart, he can't help it. I used the end notes as a warning/apology/explanation for this scene. I don't want it to be misinterpreted, and I don't want to disrespect Spanish history.

7- If someone does comment/ask about a sensitive, historical part of your work: don't rant. And don't get offended. I believe we all need to talk more. Have conversations about HCs, how we would write/imagine different scenes, and use it to improve your work.

I just have the general hcs I think! I like to imagine that Kie and Pope came along a little later, maybe when they were around 11, to join the group. Kie was probably SUPER tomboyish back then because she hadn’t been friends with Sarah yet. I think JJ always had a bit of a thing for her.

I think when Kie moved to the kook academy mental health played an equal role with her self isolation from the boys as her friendship with Sarah did. People with these issues are prone to pulling away from the the ones they love, and if Sarah was the one who helped her get past that along with finally giving her a place at the kook academy, it makes a lot of sense for why being ditched by her hurt so badly. I know a lot of people hc Kie had romantic feelings for Sarah. I think it’s a valid hc, but I don’t think I see it as the end all like everyone else does. Friendship is sacred enough on its own, especially when you mesh like Kie and Sarah had to have, and you add Kie’s former isolation on top of it.

I used to always headcanon that JB let her back in relatively easily and Pope just went along with it to avoid confrontation (hence why she still had underlying conflict with him in canon that they clearly hadn’t resolved) and that maybe JJ took the longest to forgive her/let her back in, however... I have also seen very convincing portrayals of the opposite in fics (PLTC).

I think Kie was suddenly super hot and grown up when she came back, and the boys were too. Kie is probably determined not to let anything romantic happen between them ever because she’s already lost them once, and she doesn’t want to risk the few people that get her. I don’t think Kie has many people like that, that just get her, and I also think there’s a little part of her that’s self conscious they just let her back in because she’s hot anyway. As for the locked door comment: as I’ve said before, at most, JJ probably made a move when he was drunk at the boneyard or something, and Kie totally didn’t realize how much he actually is into her/that he’s serious. I also think it could be something as simple as JJ casually flirting and her rolling her eyes and taking it we a joke and he takes it as “oh well that door is so so locked”.

I also fully think Pope’s feelings for her could amount to “there is this beautiful amazing girl I’m best friends with and I never talk to girls and therefor I must have feelings for this one right?” I’d really just like their breakup to be semi mutual and I think this makes a lot of sense for the way Pope’s character is.

I think JB and Kie always clicked immediately and I have an enormous soft spot for them! They’re one of my favorite individual friendships on the show for sure. I have a major soft spot for cute m/f brotps and they just give me major harmione vibes. I also definitely think she is so protective of him because she feels like she wasn’t there for him in his greatest time of need, and now she’s going above and beyond and trying to make up for it.

As for the potential of flashbacks: I have high hopes because Rudy and JD posted those pictures way back with what some of us thought could be some child actor feet. If they theoretically casted a young Pope and JJ, it only makes sense that JB and Kie would be there too. I think with them all missing JB a childhood flashback would be FANTASTIC and it would be crazy not to use it.

(Edit: this is actually probably Rudy and JD’s hands in their stunt doubles shoes but I’m leaving it up because it’s funny lmao)

updates:

im all written out for the day but i might make some hc posts, if i get particularly inspired by the movies/the book i’m reading (mort)!

i’ll be on the dash while i watch some movies i bought on youtube (yes i still buy movies like a clown instead of torrenting them. i’m the worst genz-millenial cusp ever)

What expectations do you hold towards your plotting partner: some minimal idea of the context and eden’s character . some ideas if possible . more than often I have gotten people straight up jump with no clue of what even is going on in my side character wise .

When you notice the plotting is rather one-sided, what do you do?: depends , most likely really stop trying or let it sink . I’m not much of a person who would pressure for ideas when they don’t even come naturally for me in these kind of situations .

How do you usually plot with others, do you give input or leave most work towards your partner?: First of all , ask what they particularly want and if they read the bio . and of course , have their bio as well ( if oc or any relevant hc on vague canons ) . I am honestly a bit shy on the input but if I found a ground to start letting my imagination loose ( like , something in common between characters or something that clicks well with my muse ) I can suggest several things . but in any case , I’m pretty passive and it’s a lot of gives and takes .

When a partner drops the thread, do you wish to know?: YES / NO / DEPENDS. - And why?: depends on the thread , the time and the interest . things that go downtown in the excitement scale are :/ and I can’t blame anyone for dropping a thread . not all the time you will have muse for them , tho , if it was a relevant thread I would ask at least . - What should your partner do when dropping a thread?: pretty much free to tell me or not . Why do you rp again, is there a goal?: development , exploring the muse , seeing what works and doesn’t work . often new blogs for me are basically prototypes , they are and will most likely have minor or major modifications as my imagination starts working and getting excited . besides , in the basics , you can hardly manage to cover all ( if anything ) of how one’s muse would react to X situation .

Wishlist, be it plots or scenarios: a lot of quincy lore , come up with more personal connections with other quincies , fully develop a backstory and a post war scenario . cultural exploration --- relationships of all kinds .

Themes I won’t ever rp / explore: pretty much I am fine with anything as long as we don’t cross the gross line . but I’m not afraid of the dark .

What Type of Starters do you prefer / dislike, can’t work with?: absurdly basic and with no context given . not even have an idea of what is the deal between muses . I can squeeze my brain but there is as much as i can do with little information .

What type of characters catch your interest the most?: quirky ones , conflictive ones , most likely muses with specific motifs that spark my interest -- deepness . Aesthetically interesting ones . but overall , those who have out of the normal personalities .

What are your strong aspects as rp partner?: I am.... creative ? gdi I did this meme already but it’s hard to reply these two ones. That is quite hard to determine. I try to follow canon up to the point of where Kaon killed him. But the more I play and write him, the more new aspects he gets, the more things he experiences and the more off-canon he gets. But thats Character development.

This Truck can carry you anywhere you want to go! Just dont let him run out of fuel and Highgrade, don't abuse him and you have one of the loyalest souls in the Universe on your side. This scared and scarred Bot is build like a brick wall and even has some special abilities. I am not talking about his Magna Clamps, which lets him magnetize himself to different surfaces, I am not talking about his Outlier Ability to generate Forcefields!! I am talking about his empathy! This is one, maybe naive, Bot that can think about others viewpoints and where they come from, he is thinking about what he can do about it. This steady Bot can hold so much fuel, you won't believe it! He even always has some juice packs with him, that he offers others. He is the perfect guy to take with you for any occassions. Not bad looking, not as dumb as others perceive him to be and with a strive to show himself to others!

NOW THE OPPOSITE! (list everything why your muse could not be so interesting (even if you may not agree, what does the fandom perhaps think?)

Even if you think you know him, you don't. He learned that people judge what they see, so he tries to be perfect n their eyes, helpful and polite. Its a mask. He seldomly lets someone get past behind those masks anymore. He is very unsure of himself, very easily guided along with pretty words. But if he likes you and calls you a friend even behind his mask, he would lay down everything for you, which is a nice point for him but an even bigger one against him. He is a drunk, his frame needing way more fuel than other mechs of the same build.

WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO RP YOUR MUSE?

To be honest. The first time I saw Teebs in any comic was in the Wrecker-series. And he was just a guy breaking into a situation and smiling that warm smile of his at a friend in need. There was no judgement and no pity there, just a very happy and warm smile. This was the moment I wanted to see more of him. And then I kept on reading. And I was getting more and more desperate to see more about Trailbreaker/Trailcutter. And the more I saw and read up on, the more my heart sank. This was a bot struggling with himself, but smiling for others, being there for others. Someone who wants so depseratly to change and even making true friends along the way after all the shit he had to went through, only to be cut down way before his time, way before anyone could breach all of his walls. And I was crying for him. My heart broken. He deserved so much more, I kept thinking.

It took maybe a few days and a few talks with a friend before I found the courage to really do it, to RP him.

WHAT KEEPS YOUR INSPIRATION

The Teebs in itself is keeping my attention. The many different layers his char gets the more i play him. And the different people I interact with. Gosh, people. I couldn't do it without you. I love the reactions, I love all the little snippets, I love rereading threads or just mentions. It keeps me going and it keeps my love up. Its awesome.

YES!!! Yes, I love those! I can't get enough of those, because really, you can only wrap your brain around issues and questions and HC for so long before you get stuck. Those questions keep my brain and imagination in the loop and I have so much fun to think about those, to come up with reasonings.

IF SOMEONE DISAGREES TO A HEADCANON OF YOURS, DO YOU WANT TO KNOW WHY?

Eh, I mean. Normally people tell me why they think different. There can be quite some good discussions stemming from that, but mostly, we are humans with different ways of life and different experiences. So naturally we will see some things differently. My Muse is following my own way though, so it all makes sense to me and fits the puzzle in my head.

IF SOMEONE REALLY HATES YOUR CHARACTER, HOW DO YOU TAKE IT?

I would ask myself why they would read what I wrirte then. They can just unfollow me if they hate what I do. You can't cater to every whim. You can't play nice with everyone. But really, if you hate my Muse, why coming back to my Blog then? You have your own opinion and thats all great. So, it really doesnt face me to be honest. As long as it doesnt blow up to hate against me or all people liking what I do.

DO YOU THINK YOU ARE EASY GOING AS A MUN?

I hope so, but I know or imagine that I am not. I have my problems, my work and time zones to work through. But I dont want to let those get in the way of nice interactions. I am a scatterbrain, I sometimes forget threads. Its not because I dont want to continue, but because my RL is getting really stressy or something is eating my brain capacity. sam didn’t ever really have that ‘ aha, i’m demi - sexual ’ moment, she knew that unlike a lot of her friends that she wasn’t as interested in hooking up as some of the other girls, preferred to sit and just connect with the person she’s more romantically interested in. it wasn’t until talking with beth, when they were about eighteen, that she realised that she was demi - sexual, wanting a deep connection with someone romantically before allowing herself to get into a more sexual relationship.

iv. do they have any preferences?

sam has known for a while though that she doesn’t really have a preference romantically for who she is attracted to, it all comes down to who she connects with.

v. share a positive memory of your muse coming out.

when sam came out to josh was probably her favourite memory of coming out, not that she ever really has felt like she has to come out to most of her friends. she usually brushes off the comments about her not wanting to have sex, or how she hasn’t kissed anyone because she just doesn’t want to just kiss anyone. but she was sat up late with josh, sharing a joint and he just asked her about it, kindly, not mockingly or teasingly like emily or jess do, and she just told him that she was demi - sexual and she wanted a connection with someone, that she just didn’t feel that sexual attraction to people till she had that. he was very understanding, joked with her a little bit, but he is always supportive of anything she does.

vi. how do they feel about pride month?

whilst she’s not a huge party person, she really does enjoy pride month and going to the different pride events, she usually is more supportive of beth and helping her out in the different things beth does for pride. she likes seeing all the other lgbtqia+ people talk about their experiences, being able to do some charity work and doing her part to show her pride with her friends.

vii. do they participate in pride related events / any other events?

she’d definitely tries to take part, often helping beth if she was showing off some art or being a dj for a party, and when sam goes to college, she becomes a part of her college’s lgbtqia+ society and has been a part of their pride float, she also helped the dog shelter she works at become more active in helping the lgbtqia+ community.

viii. how does your muse feel about lgbtq+ roles in media?

seeing any part of the lgbtqia+ community shown in the media is really important to sam, she would like to see some more diverse roles shown, with actual lgbtqia+ people playing those roles and if she ever got to see someone who was shown accurately as demi - sexual / asexual and not someone who is broken, not someone who once they have sex that’s all they seem to do, she wants more accurate portrayals with actual lgbtqia+ people playing them who understand what it really means.

ix. do they feel pride in who they are?

she definitely feels pride within herself as she grows up and separates herself from the people who constantly tell that she’s strange, weird or broken because she’s doesn’t want sex. she may not often talk about her sexuality, but when it comes up and she talks about it, she is clearly proud and wants to show people that being demi - sexual / asexual is a valid sexuality and people who do identify as that aren’t broken and not all of them are sex repulsed either.

x. who has been your muse’s supportive idol in their self discovery?

whilst beth may not be asexual or demi - sexual, beth washington is definitely someone who sam will always talk to about things concerning sexuality. beth came out a young age and has been really involved in the lgbtqia+ community, setting a group up at their high school, being active on social meda and really trying to help her friends. all of that is really inspiring for sam and she’s glad to have a friend like beth helping her through this.

xi. who was your muse’s first crush?

she’d still deny it and doesn’t often talk about it, however, josh washington was sam’s first crush, plus is someone that she often feels the biggest connection to. she was about seven or eight when she first met the washington’s, but it wasn’t till she was about thirteen that she realised she had a crush on josh, wanting to spend time with him, thought about wanting to hold his hand and she often caught herself looking at him. however she never acted on it, always more concerned about ruining her friendships with all the washington siblings, even as she got older and her first crush definitely become more intense towards josh, it sometimes seemed like she wasn’t always alone in it either.

xii. what advice does your muse have for lgbtq+ teens?

sam always will say ‘ come out when you’re ready to, doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks, ’ and to other demi - sexual / asexual teens, she will say ‘ it really doesn’t matter what anyone else, you are not broken, you are not weird and your identity is not something that needs to be fixed, you are completely valid and you will find the people who understand that, ’

xiii. has your muse come out to friends and family?

sam didn’t really ever need to come out to her dad, he accepted that she wasn’t that interested in sex and would always tell her that she would know when she was ready for a relationship or anything else, no one else could tell her that. she only came out to a few of her friends, the ones who would understand and didn’t constantly mock her for being ‘ weird for not having kissed anyone ’, so she is out to ashley, beth, chris, hannah and josh, plus her friends from her lgbtqia+ society at college.

xiv. how does your muse feel about the phrase ‘ coming out ’?

for her, she never really felt the need to come out, maybe because she never really had the strong connection with someone where it might matter. however, she does also believe in full honesty, coming out is being fully honest, with yourself, your friends, your loved ones and that’s why people do it.

xv. do they believe there is a closet to come out of?

she doesn’t feel like she was hiding in the closet, she just was always herself. however, after hearing other people’s coming out stories, she can understand why some people say that there is a closet to come out of.

xvi. what’s your muse’s biggest pet peeve when it comes to lgbtq+ characterisation in media?

stereotypes, the killing off of lgbtqia characters and lack of representation for many identities in the lgbtqia+ spectrum. some of the stereotypes lead to misleading beliefs about lgbtqia+ people and can tend to be really harmful, often can be what people believe an lgbtqia+ person to look like and act like. often in media, when there is lgbtqia+ characters, it seems whenever they get their happy moment, looks like they’re gonna get their happy ending, one of the relationship often gets killed off, it’s like the media is saying that all lgbtqia+ muses are doomed to be tragic. the lack of representation is something that really bothers sam, she can’t seem to find an asexual / demi - sexual characters on screen, as well as other identities.

xvii. what’s their favourite part when it comes to lgbtq+ characterisation in media?

the fact that people can see lgbtqia+ relationships, normalising it and showing that lgbtqia+ people are there in society, they’re not different or wrong, they just want the same as everyone else does, to be loved.

xviii. do they practice safe sex with the same gender?

if sam got to a point with someone where she’d want to have sex, practice safe sex would be something she’d insist on at first. however, if she was with another woman, she’d be making sure that they used condoms on toys, if they used them, just being as careful as they can until a long term commitment is made clear.

xix. what are their turn offs with the same gender? what are their turn ons?

turn ons : confidence, someone who knows who they are and what they want, but also someone who isn’t arrogant about themselves or what they’re good at, someone who is also kind and loving but not scared to stand up for themselves or who they love.

turn offs : someone who likes to tear people down to make themselves feel better, who are just plain bitchy and nasty, constantly pick on people about little things.

xx. how does your muse feel about lgbtq+ clubs / apps / websites?

sam thinks they’re a really good way of connecting with other people within the community, they’re safe places for people to meet without fear. however she is aware of the dangers online, people not being who they say are and predatory behaviour, so usually relies on her lgbtqia+ society at college.

xxi. how do they feel about the term ‘ queer ’?

sam has no personal issue with that word, but is definitely aware of others that might so tends not to use it herself.

xxii. what tips would they give to heterosexual / cisgendered people looking to better understand the community and news surrounding it?

that they need to be open minded and educate themselves, to not get offended when they are corrected about terms and let go of any bias or stereotypes they think are true. be open to the fact that not everything will be the same as what they are used but that is still okay.

xxiii. what’s the most annoying question your muse has ever gotten for being lgbtq+?

who hurt you to make you demi - sexual? the answer is no one did, sam just doesn’t feel the sexual attraction towards people, she’s not broken, hasn’t been through some kind of sexual trauma, she didn’t get hurt or scorned by a lover. she just doesn’t feel sexual attraction and there is nothing wrong with that.

xxiv. how do they feel about receiving questions about their sexuality and / or gender?

sam doesn’t mind, but she will only take so much if she feels that someone isn’t trying to be understanding or open minded about her sexuality. she shouldn’t have to explain herself over and over, but she will also try to be understanding and patient. unless the other person gets rude or mean, she will stay calm and be willing to answer questions.

I am THIS close to actually and totally being caught up on reccing everything I want to rec. Two days behind now. Next week maybe I’ll actually be there.

This is stuff I like, and I have a huge bias toward Lance, hurt/comfort, and general fluff, in that order. Gen unless otherwise noted. Please comment on the fics if you read and enjoy them!

flambe by againstmygreeleaf Words: 2,527 Author’s Summary: Generally soup does not warrant a fruit’s presence, but this is a space fruit and it has a suitable savory tang. My Comments: What a great Hunk-centric sickfic. There just aren’t enough of them. Not even close.

Cookies are Best When Shared with Friends by Mikiri for MoonlitWaterSunnyRiver Words: 1,459 Author’s Summary: Hunk was used to dealing with Lance, and he was getting used to dealing with Keith. Either way, Hunk was just glad to have fun with his friends. My Comments: Daw, so adorable. I love these three becoming friends.

A Little Voice by ihaveacleverfandomurl Words: 1,983 Author’s Summary: Shiro’s hesitant to touch the kid, to scare him, but he’s even more hesitant to leave him here to shiver in his sleep, cuddled up with nothing next to long-dead blackened logs. So gently, he places a hand on the kid’s head. Not expecting a near-instantaneous squeak and jump and roll away, across the ground. The kid lands in a defensive posture, and his eyes are darting between the two men, now some feet away from his landing spot.Shiro and Matt find a kid on their camping trip to get away from the pressures of being seniors in high school. Keith may be twitchy and scared, but Shiro is ready to help him in any way he can. But Keith might not stick around forever. My Comments: Aw man, poor tiny Keith, but I love how Shiro and Matt just drop everything to help him and pour their hearts and souls into it.

I’m Only a Crack by Anonymous Words: 6,033 Author’s Summary: There’s not much he knows. He doesn’t know where he is, or who put him here. He doesn’t know how long he’s been here, or why he was put here at all. He doesn’t know who he is. He doesn’t even know his own name. The one thing that he does know is that he has to survive. And to do that he needs to escape, before it’s too late. My Comments: Poor Shiro, getting his mind almost completely wiped like that, but I adored how protective everyone was, and cuddly Hunk was so cute. The team protectiveness and eventual solution were great.

Get Down with the Sickness by BossToaster (ChaoticReactions) Words: 10,856 Author’s Summary: Catching space colds is nothing new to Shiro. But this particular bug is nasty and especially contagious. The answer: Quarantine My Comments: So indulgent and satisfying, going through all the stages of the prototypical sickfic, from delirium to recovery. Reading this was like sinking into a hot bath.

Late Nights by Sohotthateveryonedied Words: 2,376 Author’s Summary: Shiro is awoken one night to find a bruised and bloodied Keith at his door after yet another fight. My Comments: Aw, poor kids. It would have been very frustrating to be Keith’s friend, I think. But he very much needs one. Good job Shiro for being there.

The Erebrean Period by Mira_Jade Words: 4,752 Author’s Summary: The Erebrean Period: A span of the cosmic timescale stretching from the formation of the proto-sun, to the emission of its first light. Or: A glimpse of a family, as it once was, long ago. My Comments: This is a gorgeous, lyrical fic, beautiful to read, but with an undercurrent of absolute dread and inevitability. It feels like the last step off a cliff. Highly recommended.

The (Not-So-)Necessary Rescue by A_Zap Words: 4,864 Author’s Summary: Lance has been captured by the Galra, and Shiro and the rest of the team rush to save him. Due to a bit of luck, they manage to get there to rescue him but… Well, it turns out that it may not have been as necessary as Shiro thought. In which Shiro learns that he has severely underestimated Lance and Lance is freaking awesome. My Comments: This was a fun break from all those angsty fics where Lance gets captured, much as I love those. Granted, he had a healthy dose of luck assisting him, but he has skills too. It was fun to see everyone’s reactions.

Wings of a Lion by Eastofthemoon Words: 6,120 Author’s Summary: Shiro wanted to strengthen his bond with the Black Lion, but he never dreamed it would go this far. My Comments: Really fun fic in which Shiro gets wings and everyone, including him, has to adjust.

Back in Black by ptw30 Words: 5,584 Author’s Summary: In honor of Shiro Week 2017 - here is a helping of gen fics to celebrate my favorite paladin, Shiro! All prompts, save day 7, are written sometime in season 5 after Shiro escapes his time in Galra captivity. All fics are gen.Day 1: Space/Time (both!) - “Burritos and What They Mean in Space" Day 2: Original - “The Greatest Gift" Day 3: Break/Mend (both!) - "Lullaby" Day 4: The Black Bayard - "The Black Bayard’s True Form" Day 5: Companion - "Things to Do in the Astral Plane When You’re Bored" Day 6: Duty - "A Paladin’s Sacred Duty" Day 7: Free Day/AU - Blade!Shiro Story - "Not Ready” My Comments: Great collection of Shiro-centric ficlets. I think day five is my favorite, but they’re all worth reading.

Mind Games by Rangergirl3 Words: 6,392 Author’s Summary: There’s more than one way to break a person. My Comments: Some really brutal torture scenes here, with Keith as victim. Great job to the rest of the team rallying around him, though.

Worthless by The_Angst_Chronicles for Tidalstep Words: 15,939 Author’s Summary: Lance breaks down after a mission, not knowing that his comm was on. The rest of the team overhears. My Comments: Hecks yeah, Lance having a breakdown and everyone else pulling him back together. I freaking love these fics, and this is a good one. Lots of good cuddling, lots of good reassurance. Maybe a wee bit over the top, but hey, sometimes I like that. I enjoyed this one thoroughly.

Like a Good Pair of Headphones by yet_intrepid for Agapostemon Words: 958 Author’s Summary: Hey,” says Matt, “are those my headphones?” Pidge looks up from flying the wacky green lion ship that she apparently flies, and frowns at him. “What?” “My headphones,” Matt repeats, waving them at her. They weren’t in her bag so much as on top of it, so he wasn’t prying. “Come on, Pidge. The limited edition ones I bought? There’s like fifty pair of these in the entire world, so don’t try and tell me this isn’t the one that was already in our house.” My Comments: This author is absolutely amazing with sibling relationships. They feel so perfectly realistic, antagonistic and comforting by turns, exactly like real life. Pidge and Matt have been through a lot, and they need to reconnect.

Drift Away by BossToaster (ChaoticReactions) Words: 2,737 Author’s Summary: After a long series of missions and forming Voltron, the bond sticks as the team goes to bed. Shiro tries to stay awake. My Comments: This is so soft and peaceful and warm, despite the brief moments of fear. It just really made me feel good.

Be Ready and Be Brave by yet_intrepid Words: 4,370 Author’s Summary: “Yeah,” says Shiro. “Your mom seems chill.” “She’s really chill,” Hunk says. “She gets stressed a lot, though. Or she did. She was working two jobs before. But she’s great; I love her.” And then he looks at Shiro expectantly, like he’s expecting Shiro to praise his dad in turn. And Shiro wants to. He does. But he can’t get words out of his throat. My Comments: Mind the tags. This is an extremely tense and disturbing portrayal of an abusive situation, though no abuse in shown on screen, just for Shiro’s mindset and the undercurrent of fear in the fic. But it’s really, really good, I mean amazing, so if you don’t have triggers you should definitely read it. Background Shallura, Shatt, and Hance.

Afraid to Get Close by Cocopops1995 Words: 1,274 Author’s Summary: Keith’s pretty sure it started when his mother left him, but he thinks it was after the fourth or fifth foster family gave up on him he really stopped allowing people to get close to him. My Comments: Aw man, poor Keith. I’m so glad he finally got a good hug. He needs it.

And Still the Stars by Bubblekilt Words: 2,279 Author’s Summary: Shiro has a bad night. Black helps, in her way. Written for Shiro Week 2017, Day 1: Space. My Comments: Aww, Black is a good kitty mama. <3

If I Could Melt Your Heart by Cocopops1995 Words: 2,291 Author’s Summary: Keith is missing. Shiro and the team do their best to find him. My Comments: Alternate perspective on a previously recced fic. This version was even better for those achy hc feels. Love the protectiveness, as always.

What goes unseen by kafeicappuccino Words: 2,184 Author’s Summary: ‘They’re everywhere, Takashi.’ His grandfather had promised, a warm smile on his lips, as though he were sharing something precious. ‘No matter where you go, they’re there, but don’t worry. They’re not all bad.’ — He remembered those eyes from almost fifteen years ago, ones that belonged to a youthful and pale face, and that was exactly the problem.Neither hadn’t changed in the slightest. My Comments: What a cool little fantasy AU. I like the use of Japanese mythology, and Shiro’s POV both as a child and as an adult was completely believable. I would read more of this concept.

Home Is Far; Your Arms Are Here by seekingsquake Words: 1,162 Author’s Summary: Maybe… maybe if they have a sleepover, thinking about home won’t hurt so much. Maybe if Lance keeps him wrapped up, Hunk will have the courage to look out the window. My Comments: Aw, poor boys. Hunk and Lance are both homesick and hurting, but at least they have each other.

I’m Your Captain by EagleInFlight Words: 8,045 (3/?) Author’s Summary: **SEQUEL TO WORDS FAIL** Summary: It’d been four years since Lance has last been home. Four years of war, of pain, of home-sickness, of fighting. Today is the day he’ll see the shores of Varadero Beach, he’ll receive his mother’s bone-crushing hug, he’ll see his big family of aunts, uncles, and cousins, and he’ll see his brother who he left on bad terms with. Only…they can’t know he’s a Paladin of Voltron. This was not the family reunion Lance expected.But it was everything he needed. My Comments: Sequel to a previously recced fic, this is a bittersweet and heartwarming homecoming for Lance. I’m glad Keith is there for moral support, with all the complicated family issues going on. I’ll be following this one avidly.

Under the Weight of Belief by yet_intrepid Words: 3,801 Author’s Summary: Before all this, Shiro used to be somebody. One of the best pilots in the Rebel Alliance. He loved his x-wing and he trained new recruits and he flew missions, so many missions, until one went wrong. A Star Wars Original Trilogy AU for Shiro Week 2017! Day 1 - Time/Space and Day 2 - Original/Divergent. My Comments: Man, the beginning of this is so brutal, but the comfort at the end is so good. It really really hurts to see Shiro as a literal slave, but the rescue and the hug at the end almost made it worth it.

Pride And Joy by prettyshiroic (AnalystProductions) Words: 5,850 Author’s Summary: Keith wears the colour red with pride. Sometimes, he wears it with joy. My Comments: Daww, this is the CUTEST. Happy Keith is so sweet and adorable, and singing to mice? Man, I’ve been there.

Children of the Lion Goddess by RukiaG Words: 5,471 Author’s Summary: Altean mythology claims that the Lion Goddess created the Universe, and that her four children protect Altea of all evil. However, Altea and its solar system is long gone, its people hunted down and slaughtered by order of Emperor Zarkon, its culture eradicated and its gods forgotten. Forgotten, but not dead, and soon the Voltron Paladins will find out that some traces of Altea still remain. Or: Team Voltron finds an Altean temple and somehow Shiro is adopted by a magical space lioness. My Comments: I did not read the summary for this very carefully before I started reading, so at first I thought it was just a fun exploration fic, like an episode of Star Trek or Stargate. Partway through, though, it takes a turn for the AMAZING and ADORABLE. Try it out. I’m pretty sure you’ll like it.

Calls Me On and On by BossToaster (ChaoticReactions) Words: 7,614 Author’s Summary: Shiro: Then and now My Comments: This fic is absolutely brilliant, one of bosstoaster’s best works ever, and she’s done some amazing, amazing stuff. I loved the way past and present were interwoven, and the contrast between Shiro then and now and how that eventually flipped on its head. A really, really good read, felt like a whole universe in a tiny fic.

i spy with my little eye, something beginning with squeak by prettyshiroic (AnalystProductions) Words: 5,694 Author’s Summary: “Look it doesn’t - it doesn’t matter just, it’s - what are you doing here?!” The mouse looks up at Keith. It understands what he’s saying, it absolutely does. But it’s purposefully choosing to ignore his question. The audacity. Keith grits his teeth, running a hand through his hair. It’s not like they can go all the way back to the castle now. The planning for the mission is underway and they’ll be taking off soon. Probably as soon as tomorrow, even. The war won’t wait for them. They have to keep going. Mice and all. “You can’t be here. It’s too dangerous it -” the mouse is tiny, comfortably fitting in his hand. “You’re a mouse?!” Keith exclaims, voice low. It’s ridiculous. This cannot be real, but it is. The yellow mouse flexes its arms with gusto, pulling all kinds of poses as if to say it’s strong and perfectly capable of fighting in this war. Keith seriously doubts that. —- Keith leaves for the Blade of Marmora, and soon discovers - in more ways than expected - he’s not alone… My Comments: This is SUPER sweet. Platt’s mannerisms felt very mouselike, and I loved the reason he was there. Keith also has a lovely roommate in a not-dead Regris, which is bonus.

Back from the Edge by Emerald_Ashes Words: 2,603 (1/?) Author’s Summary: The paladins are still recuperating after the events that transpired between them and the Galra. Yet the war continues. They’ve been lucky to avoid battle for as long as they have, but soon enough they will be summoned into the fray once more. And while Lance is healing, he has to learn to deal with his new demons. My Comments: I am VERY excited for this sequel to one of my favorite hurt!Lance fics by one of my favorite hurt!Lance authors. It’s such a good aftermath, and already it’s pushing a lot of my buttons, like a LOT of them, with Lance feeling weak and tired and lonely in recovery and just needing attention but also feeling bad for needing attention. Like I just wanna coo at him and wrap him in blankets and give him tea and cookies. Fortunately he has a loving team to do that for me, but I can’t help the way I feel. Can’t wait for more.

Try to Try Hard by yet_intrepid Words: 4,874 Author’s Summary: “Shiro,” Keith says, and he tries to be calm. “Are you…okay?” Shiro lifts his head a little. Keith has never seen him so pale. The blood is still pumping out and Keith can’t stop staring at it. He should fix it. He should fix it. He doesn’t know how. [Shiro loses his hand, Aladdin AU edition. Written for Shiro Week Day 3: Break/Mend and Day 5: Isolation/Companion.] My Comments: The fic this is prequel to is mostly fluffy and cute, but this fic is very much not those things. It’s brutal and sad, but the second chapter has some very nice comforting and a very cute baby Lance to kinda sorta maybe make up a little bit for Shiro getting his hand chopped off with an axe. Somewhat.

Fear Itself by BossToaster (ChaoticReactions) Words: 7,277 Author’s Summary: After an assassination attempt, Slav demands asks that the paladins come to protect him. With seven pilots, five lions, and one castle, they end up able to send along one person. Ryou volunteers himself. Kind of. He may not have thought this through very well. Shiro Week 2017, Day 2: Original/Divergent My Comments: I love this fic SO much. Ryou is wonderful, and the Slav characterization is perfect, somehow annoying and endearing at the same time, just like he is in the show. I love how hard Ryou worked to try to understand Slav and meet him on an emotional level, even while he had to hold back his irritation. He did a great job. I’m proud of him.

Through Adversity to the Stars by Sylindara Words: 8,225 Author’s Summary: Hunk bonds with his teammates and learns to fly. My Comments: This is soooo good, and feels so very canon. In fact I’m just gonna take it as canon. Something like this absolutely happened in between the scenes in the first season. I loved Hunk bonding with everyone, especially in the lessons with Shiro. Wonderful fic.

parallel by buttered_onions Words: 5,656 Author’s Summary: The failure of the Kerberos mission changes everything. Posted as a chaptered fill for vldplatonicweek: Day Two: Inside/Outside. Keith and his daemon…adjust. Day Three: Trick/Treat. Pidge and her daemon keep their promise. Day Five: Change/Growth. Keith and Tarryn learn to wait, and to react. Day Six: Distance/Proximity. Shiro returns home. My Comments: My only complaint about this is that it’s just too short. The worldbuilding is lovely and the characterization is spot on and the plot is fun. And I just want way, way more.

Care by bookwormgir1LH Words: 6,840 Author’s Summary: Five times Coran looked after his team when they were sick, and the one time they took care of him.Cuddle number 8: Reluctantly My Comments: This is so very sweet and hearfelt and genuine. I love Coran taking care of all his kids, and I love his kids taking care of him.
