RAVENWOOD ( LIFE & DEATH ) K-303 & K-606 BASEGAME ( ALMOST ) MANDATORY K-505 UPDATE

Hello people :)

Halloween has arrived, and with it, the Life & Death expansion ! We’ve been working hard to make sure Ravenwood is a hauntingly beautiful place for your Sims to visit … or haunt, depending on their mood. Here’s what’s new :

For once, we are going to make 2 posts related to the new town of Life & Death expansion : Ravenwood ...

Of course, this not the first time maxis includes base game stuff in expansions worlds, but this time, it's not about stuff but it's all about terrains ;)

So, except the Afterlife side of Ravenwood which has its own dark rocks, Ravenwood countryside is made of its own cliffs and ... Oasis Spring Rocks/Mountains ( a desert town, just as a reminder ) ... Why Oasis Spring ? it would be more logical to create specific new rocks or at least, choose the more grayish rocks from Willow Creek but well ... ea / maxis / logic <- not the best combo :D

So, after some tests, we decided to modify the rocks/mountains of Oasis Spring, which is only based on a choice of our own. Curiously, now they are not orange anymore, they give a less flat aspect to the town ...

Then, we modified "small" things & stuff of the base game we should have done a long time ago, but not mandatory such as the stone street planter and public lavatories. They are all over Ravenwood now, and their original look seems more ugly than before :D so, we modified them ;) idem with the base short stone fence ... ( yes we know, we have to make more fences )

Related to the other k-303, the ones included in Ravenwood ( both sides ) we made few ones in order to get a similar look & feel than the k-505 urban :) And we modified a bit the debug town banners ( mostly sharpening, colour ) and streetlamps ... well, you'll discover it, or not :D your choice of course :)

The k-303 isn’t mandatory, but it adds just the right touch to elevate Ravenwood’s atmosphere. Here’s what’s been updated:

Gravesites – Some of the graves in Ravenwood had a mix of grass and dirt that didn’t quite fit the mood. We’ve refreshed these textures to blend seamlessly with the k-505 for that true cemetery feel.

Portal & Soul Bowl – Over in the Netherworld, the portal and soul bowl were looking a little… underwhelming. Now, with enhanced textures, they bring just the right level of mystique and “cool” factor to the other side.

Solicitor Rug – Our lovely public service solicitor has a new set of rugs that better reflect the status and vibe of Ravenwood. A touch of style for the gentleman who offers advice to all ( living or dead )

Street Decor – The town square banners, street lamps, and other decorative touches around Ravenwood have gotten a glow-up.

So, dive into and see how these textures and additions bring new life ( or un-life ) to this chilling town.

About the k-606 : roofs and foundation + 3 series of fences are re-made :) One is still under work and will be released very soon.

Ravenwood has so many fences we couldn’t just leave them plain and un-haunted. These additions help set the mood perfectly for any mysterious, eerie Sim wandering through town ;)

Because the large part of grass included in some other graves, we included them directly into the Ravenwood k-505 mod :)

You set your pen down as you finished signing off the death certificate form sat in front of you. It was late, outside the window you could see the tangerine and lavender painted hues of a Fontanian sunset, and the L/N Funeral Home was cold and empty. You weren't particularly upset about being left behind while your coworkers went out to see some performance at the Opera Epiclese, but it was mildly annoying to be the last one in the whole of Fontaine doing paperwork on a Friday night.

With a sigh, you pushed yourself out of your desk and off of your chair. You grabbed your messenger bag and began the short journey to the door.

Pushing it open revealed a man in a top hat and some sort of body suit crouched on the concrete steps, grabbing wildly for cards strewn across the whole entryway. You stared, hoping your cold gaze would get the message across.

It did not, in fact, get the message across. The man glanced up, and upon seeing you, bounced back into standing.

"Hello there! I just dropped some cards on the way to a show... I'm a magician, see, and I've got a crowd waiting at the Opera. Would you mind lending a hand?" he stook out his hand, "The name's Lyney, by the way."

You looked at the hand, then back up at him, not bothering to shake it.

"Ahah, tough crowd, I see... That's fine. I'll pick up these cards and be on my way, promise." He winked then bent back down to start collecting the -- you now realized that they were customized -- cards. You looked around to survey the damage. How did he do this? The cards went from the stairs, to the pluie lotus planters, then all the way to the back of the building. He wouldn't be leaving anytime soon.

You stepped over him and headed to the planters.

"Aw, you're really helping out? I knew you were a nice gal," he said, rather irritatingly, in your humble opinion.

Once you finished with the planters, you moved to the side of the building.

"You remind me of my sister. Neither of you waste words for anything. That's not always a bad thing, you know?" His attempt at small talk fell on dead ears, until he continued, "Lynette. I should introduce you two."

"Lynette?" The name spilled out of your mouth before you could stop yourself. This guy's sister was Lynette? One of your best friends? The girl you would have tea with? There was no way.

"There we go! Wait, you know her?" You could hear his surprise from the other side of the building.

"Sure. We talk," was all you gave him. You picked up the last card and headed towards the front. Leaves crunched and the man met you there, shoving a handful of cards in his bag. You held the cards you picked up out to him, and he gratefully took it.

"I'll have to ask her about you, then! Hey, thanks for the help. As a token of appreciation..." He held out a ticket to you.

"For... your show?" you asked skeptically. He nodded.

"It's not only mine. You can come for Lynette, too, but I'll have you know that I don't like to be second choice." He winked, shoving the ticket into your hands.

You awkwardly stood outside the back doors of the Opera Epiclese, waiting for your annoying little magician to come out to see you.

Crowds weren't your thing, so he never forced you to watch his shows, but you liked to meet him afterwards as a sort of celebratory gesture for a show gone well... or a consolatory one for the opposite...

Finally, he burst through the wooden double doors, greeting you with a hug and a soft kiss on the cheek.

"It went well?" you prompted.

"You put so much faith in me!" he said, laughing, "But yes. They loved it. Well, most of them. There a few that reminded of you..."

You rolled your eyes.

The Yacht Club and Beach Club Resorts on Crescent Lake are often grouped together, sharing amenities despite being technically separate hotels. From an outdoor trash can perspective, the often-seen combo wooden trash cans/planters are commonly associated with these resorts. This Yacht & Beach Club trash can design further blurs these lines with joint resort branding. The simple white can features a small logo that reads “Disney’s Yacht & Beach Club Resorts” on a blue ribbon banner. This banner showcases the prominent Yacht Club lighthouse, topped with a red flag. Behind the lighthouse, a compass-like circular background with radiating lines emerges. Is it a sunburst or light emitted from the structure? It’s open to interpretation. Update on Jackson Street Bridge Placemaking Project

We had a brief meeting with Atlanta DOT staff today to check in on the Jackson Street Bridge Placemaking Project, which was selected by the city in 2018 as part of a contest.

The basic concept was to put a protected bike lane here to prevent cars from parking in it, and to add a parklet for enjoying the view and taking photos. It's been a while since we heard any news about it, so it was good to get an update.

Some notes:

The project is now fully funded through a combo of ATL DOT money and some discretionary funding from City Councilmembers (both Liliana Bakhtiari and Amir Farokhi).

"Procurement starts in Q3 or Q4 this year" and construction will likely start in the beginning of 2025.

Atlanta Downtown Improvement District (ADID) will be in charge of construction. They told us the reason for this is ADID will provide a shorter timeline for the work and it will be done for less money (which makes you wonder: why is ATL DOT management of projects such a liability for timelines and spending?).

Nothing about the overall design appears to have changed over the years. It's a protected bike lane across the bridge, with a seating area/platform for photos and some planters for greenery, plus a flashing beacon to help cyclists turn from Jackson Street onto the Path.

They said they'd look into publishing the design documents online after a final level of approval before procurement.

Anyway...it was 2018 when the Jackson Street Bridge Placemaking Project was selected to move forward by the City. It'll likely be 2025 when construction starts (fingers crossed). It'll be great to see work begin, but holy cow it takes too long for projects to happen.

We'll say a fond word of remembrance here for Kimberli Sargent, the wonderful Atlanta planner who was shepherding this Jackson Street project in 2021 when she was hit by a drunk driver. Kimberli passed away from her injuries in 2022. She was a joy to interact with and is missed.

For those insane enough to tackle the 400 Baby Achievement (Baby Boom) and who aren't a big stickler for rules, I have created a mansion around raising a whole cart load of kids as quickly as possible! Featuring stunning blues, questionable carpet choices, and plenty of entertainment, this mansion is perfect for challenges that make you lose your sanity! :)

Without further ado, let's step into my office and tour your future home!

I promise the trees are much more beautiful when they have leaves <3 I added several cherry trees and a Japanese maple.

Outside, you have access to a hot tub with a roof (for if it rains) so if you keep your doors locked, you can easily woo someone outside ;)

The entrance features lovely bamboo and square bushes.

The living room is quite simple with an entertainment center, smart speaker, and a very comfy sofa!

There's even an aquarium to fill with the prettiest of blue fish.

Across from that is a lovely, tall bookcase to house all your favorite reads. It even comes with a ladder for those short people like me!

Next up is the kitchen. As a soon-to-be mother of 400, you probably won't have a lot of time to cook. Therefore, you have a lovely tea kettle, a slow cooker and a microwave! Easy, fast meals (because who cares about being healthy?)

Next is the main bathroom. It features a bathtub/shower combo on the off chance you decide to clean up those stinky youngins! Look at those cute whales~

The main feature of this house is, of course, your bedroom! The largest room in the home by far, you can lock yourself away in here and play around on the computer or get some much needed rest. Don't worry, I'm sure the brats will be okay!

Next, we head upstairs. There's a lovely desk to be used by the children for their homework. There's also a seance table so you can call in Bonehilda (and lock her inside so she stops running away to get pregnant with twins with that prick from Willow Creek.)

I've added a treadmill in case you're like me and dislike the way heavyset sims looks. Your mama can keep her weight in check!

Child room one is for infants and toddlers, complete with a changing station and trash can! There's even a night light to prevent monsters. (I realize now I forgot to add a basinet but that's an easy fix when you move in <3)

Child room 2 is all for the kids, featuring 2 sets of bunk beds and 2 desks so they can get their homework done quickly. It also has a light to protect from monsters. The best part? Those tree branches wrap around them while they're sleeping and protect them as they sleep (read: prevent them from getting up and bothering you.)

Finally, child room 3 is all about the teens. It is literally just beds but, hey, at least they have sheer curtains on them to give them some privacy!

The upstairs bathroom is where you can potty train your toddlers while also washing clothes.

The long room at the front of the house is a play room, build to help your little ones build skills quickly so you can kick them out ASAP!

The second floor balcony has really lovely couches and a painting easel so you can make easy money!

Out back, we have a lovely pool for you, a kiddy pool for the brats, a wishing well if you decide this world is too much for you to bear and a lovely swing set! There's even a water sprout and a money drinking boba :D

On the first floor balcony out back, you have a beautiful Patchyman to help around the house and with the gardening! You can also look at the stars, I guess.

On the side of the house, there's plenty of planters, covered by the roof, so you don't have to worry about those pesky season requirements! There's also a lovely couch for you to lounge on should you choose to make your kids garden instead.

reading: i started reading 'bunny' by mona awad because it came up as a recommendation in libby when i was returning mdzs. i am going to be valiant and give it one more chapter but i do not like it. it feels like its trying very hard to emulate a certain type of vibe that i already don't find super appealing in fiction so the trying-vibe of it makes it even more uninteresting to me. the premise is a girl at a mfa program in nebulous New England Private Liberal Arts School(tm) which like, fine, dark academia or whatever; there are four (five?? i literally cannot remember which, lol) other girls in her cohort who are a weird clique and call each other 'bunny' and are rich and sheltered but harboring a Dark Secret Club. sure. the first few chapters ooze 'not like other girls'-ism, the 'bunny' characters themselves feel flat and like caricatures in an unappealing way, main character's other friend ava also is a caricature in a boring way, just very uninspiring. like i said i will give it another chapter or two but if it continues to bore me i will return it.

i finished the scum villain extras! very charming.

watching: keeping up to date with dunmeshi, yay, and also been continuing to watch endeavor with a friend. it's good! i love a mystery show! it is impossible to watch without subtitles though because they are So British. relatedly i am going to terf island for two weeks in june (london and then edinburgh) so if you know any recs for food, places, etc i am all ears!

playing: this weekend was going to be 3 dnd games in a row ... then monday was postponed to next monday ... but my sunday group, which is normally every other week, has decided to play next sunday as well bc we skipped a few weeks ... so Next weekend is the 3 day dnd combo lmfao. i don't mind too bad.

making: pottery!!! some bisque came out and i am soooo chuffed (<- endeaver tv show britishism rubbing off on me) this will be its own post with more images because i want to @ the inspiring artist, jbbartram-illu on tumblr (shop); i am obsessed with the cave painting mugs from a few months ago that immediately sold out so i was like fuck it i wanna make my own. and i am obsessed with my lil fat horses. i put amaco ancient jasper on the inside and just a matte clear on the outside. hopefully it is matte enough. i also put little hands on the handles and now i want to make some more cave painting mugs that are just the hands, i could cut out some templates to sponge underglaze around maybe...

my beautiful cracked-the-code bowls and two maybe teacups, post-trimming:

and also trying a new glaze technique: bisqued underglaze and then liquid latex over top! that way you can slather a background on and just peel it off after without painting around the details. im ngl peeling off the latex was soooo satisfying. background is laguna celadon froth.

i've also glazed my citrus juicer, just a plain warm yellow color, looking forward to that :3

glaze: mother's day gift (planter, it's. fine. idk. she'll like it i hope), and also some fixed stuff! didn't bother taking pics, the black eye bowl from feb 6 tuesdaypost is now food safe on the inside because i sanded down the kiln medium bit that got stuck in there and re-glazed it. i also tried to fix the bowl from march 12 tuesdaypost by just lightly sanding the inside and slapping some laguna celadon froth over it...it looks exactly the same now, just with some sort of float-like blue splotches lol. no pictures of it but eh. might give it away, we'll see.

eating: Spicy Clam Pasta With Bacon, Peas and Basil Recipe (NYT): tasty. idk about 'spicy' but definitely yummy.

misc: definitely in a weird spot brain-wise...the anxiety and tummyache link/feedback loop is very real for me now, so i am going back on an extremely low dose of ssri about it, and even though i have been on this med before in much larger amount i am still experiencing aaa about it. i keep going between "going back on this is a good idea" and "or i could just keep taking ~10mg of cbd every other day bc that felt like it was doing something, even if it was just placebo i had a noticeable difference in mood" so like. bluh. idk. i wish i could just Know what the best course of action is instead of having to fuck around and find out. such is life. i am literally taking the world's babiest dose rn (breaking the starter pill in half) so it will be fine. as long as i dont get bad side effects im willing to do a few weeks on it and see what happens.

Houseplant spotlight for this week is the charmingly named Moon Valley Friendship Plant (Pilea involucrata). The pilea family is enormous, and includes the aluminum plant I posted a few weeks ago, and the Chinese money plant (which I don't have, but would love to). They are all non-toxic to pets. The "friendship" part of its name comes because it's so easy to propagate, that people would share them with their friends. The one I bought was so densely packed in its cup that I was able to very easily split it into two when I repotted it. I haven't actually tried taking cuttings yet, but the one in the silver pot is getting a little leggy, so I might.

Both of these are reservoir planters, which they seem to be very happy about. The trick to reservoir planters is that you shouldn't fill them too full, and you still need to let them dry out a bit between refills. I used African violet soil, which doesn't retain much water, which makes it a really good combo with the reservoir pot. (African violet soil is also slowly acidic, so you shouldn't go around planting things in it willy-nilly, but some plants like the low pH, including this one.)

The "Moon Valley" part of the name sounds like it should refer to a place, but it's actually because the leaves are Very Texture:

I got this one on the Day I Bought Too Many Houseplants, but it was so neat, and then I got it home and everyone in my family loved it, too. It's really cool to touch, and it's been super easy to take care of.

Making A Bench & A 2 Planter Combo

Welcome to the first Chill Valicer Save update of 2024! Where we discover that the gang is a few months ahead of us in the calendar and already celebrating Egg Day. :p However -- before we get into that, we first have to cover a mini-update I did before playing through Egg Day proper, where I took a crack at updating the house a little bit! I'd hoped to do a bit more with replacing furniture and such, but ended up deciding to hold off until after Christmas/my birthday (when I received the cashola to buy Horse Ranch and Home Chef Hustle) when I'd have more options. Here's what I did manage to update, though:

A) I took all the new plants out of Smiler’s inventory (black bean, soybean, coconut, pineapple, noxious elderberry, poison fireleaf – as it turns out, I didn't need them to buy a pomegranate as we already had a pomegranate tree), plus the spare planter that Victor made way back when from the household inventory, plopped all those in the greenhouse, and started rearranging! I now have all of Smiler’s herbalism stuff together, with the noxious elderberry and poison fireleaf next to their counterparts; all the veggies together; all the fruits together (with the pineapple next to the dragon fruit); all the flowers together; the soybean and black bean in the new planter; and the coconut in the empty patch in the orchard. So basically everything is now grouped a lot better. I may still rearrange the planters themselves in the future so certain types of plants are closer to the crafting stations that use them (like putting all flowers near the flower-arranging bench), but at least now all the similar plants are grouped together properly! Oh, and while I was in there, I tried replacing the "stuck" juice fizzer (that was permanently displaying a "ready to collect" screen with nothing in it) with a new one, just so the gang had one at home if they wished to use it. I later discovered that the new one ended up "stuck" too, but at least I tried?

B) I replaced both the upstairs and downstairs litter boxes with the fancy kind that shoots lasers to automatically vaporize cat poop. XD Hey, look, the family can afford it, and it saves them having to clean the litter boxes.

C) I recolored Moory’s shed to some cheerier colors after being like “why would THIS FAMILY, of all families, go with a beige cow shed” – now it’s bright yellow! Isn't that nicer?

D) I replaced the toilet and sink in the downstairs bathroom with more expensive versions – with decorative slots, so I could put a soap dispenser on the sink. :) I was going to do the same upstairs, but ran into a problem because the two bathrooms have very distinct color schemes, and I’m not sure the toilet and sink combo I used downstairs would fit with either...have to ponder that one a bit more!

E) I penned in Toothy – which involved MOVING Toothy to the other side of the front yard, by the tree in the left-hand corner and the wind farm, because as it turns out cowplants need surprisingly big pens. Possibly because Sims have to stand a certain distance away from them to feed and play with them. If I’d left Toothy in its usual spot, I wouldn’t have had any way to get to the pet obstacle course in the corner by the kitchen. I’m still not ENTIRELY happy with the placement, but it’ll do for the moment, and it means Toothy is now cut off from anyone who can’t get through the gate – which is anyone but household members. *nods*

F) And this one I didn't get a good shot of (though you'll see it in a future update) – I copied one of the grouped photo frames I got from that family reunion I did a little bit back and put some of Victor and Alice’s honeymoon photos from Selvadorada in there. It looks nice (even if I still have a couple of spare photos that have to be arranged around the grouped frames), but I still need to decide how to handle all the photos they’ve got hanging around. I’ve been thinking that I should maybe cull a few so they have more space on their walls and perhaps look a touch less narcissistic...but the problem there is, I personally love the photos, so I don’t know if I could bring myself to delete them. *sigh* We SO need “photo albums” in the this game. Give me a book object that you can put photos in, and that when you click on it, plays a little slideshow of the photos, and I will be CONTENT.
