The 2010s Black Barbie Look

a deep dive on one of my fav sub styles ever. this aesthetic takes from the 2010s baddie, swag movement, and a lingering hyperfemininity from the 2000s that soon was obliterated by most brands a few years later. i’ve always been into this look as i was the intended audience. a teenage black girl in high school when this look took off.

pink of course! very girly and femme. but a much wider range of shades vs today. there was a huge boom in neons too. (this tracks back to the return of the 80s/90s fashion elements) (i remember having this lime green PINK quarter zip that i loved so so much). also gray was a super popular accent color for fashion and interior. zebra print decor was a staple (seen in aaliyahjay’s and ellabandz’ bedrooms) because vs pink was so big, the white on hot pink polka dot pattern was seen everywhere from clothing to needing to girls decorating their rooms with VS PINK bags.

More arcane posts because this hyper fixation is gonna be the death of me but I cannot be the only one who hates the fenty collab like I’m a fun makeup girlie and with a show full of significant colors and so many quotes that could be shade names (a black with blue chrome as oil and water as an example) we come out with a bunch of overpriced lipglosses? In colors that the brand has already they just put arcane on it and called it a day the tube isn’t even different??? Like I’m all for having some subtle merch but that’s not even merch at that point i honestly wish they had just worked with like colourpop or like glammnetics 2 brands that would’ve done arcane justice because they’re not afraid to do something exciting

You cannot say those shades aren’t the most plain things ever and people have confirmed they’re shades fenty has had out 😭

Also adding on that price tag on Fenty I could get the whole Funko Line for arcane or one lip gloss sooooo☹️

Also on the lip stain/lip gloss train, I’ve been loving colourpop glossy lip stains lately. I personally struggle to get an even application with most lip stains (might just be a me problem) but I have never had a problem with these. They go on like lip gloss and then the color just stays. And the best part is there’s no transfer once it “sets” and I can’t feel it (have a Textural Issue with stuff on my mouth).

ive had a couple people call out this brand specifically, i'll have to try this first! :D
