It’s been 2 days since I saw Yongguk live and he’s truly been on my mind non-stop for the last 48 hours. :’) 

>>Personal “Origin” Story<< Since B.A.P debuted and were active during my high school and college years, unfortunately I never had the money (or time) to be able to attend any of their concerts. When I saw that Yongguk was going on tour, I didn’t know what to think -- I’ve been in and out of my “kpop phase” for the last 12 years, and the only group that I consistently stanned throughout that time was BTS. All of my friends are either newer kpop fans or strictly girl group fans so I knew I’d be going to this concert alone, but ultimately I knew it wouldn’t be a big deal as I’ve gone solo to many concerts in the past. I saw the (shockingly) low price of the ticket and the venue being so nostalgic (I partied a decent amount at The New Parish pre-COVID lol) so I bought my ticket happily in May. The excitement did nothing but grow overtime.

I’ve been thinking about how many BABYz used to write fan accounts during fan signings/concerts waaay back in the day (if you were on Tumblr during 2012-2014, you’ll know what I mean). I remember being a teenager discovering kpop for the first time, having B.A.P be the first group where I started stanning since debut, learned every member’s name, kept up with releases on the daily, had Yongguk become my first “ult bias” (before I even knew what that was) and “fan’d” my heart out every comeback on Tumblr. I wanted to write a fan account to remember this concert but also hopefully share it with other long-time BABYz who are feeling nostalgic!

>>Going solo to the concert<< As (somewhat) expected, I met some amazing people in line as well as inside the venue who were also attending the concert solo! For me, I love hearing about how others got into stanning a certain musician or group as well as their favorite(s) song(s). As someone who didn’t grow up with other “kpop friends”, it felt so surreal to think that there were others like me 10+ years ago fully enjoying the same music, and having that musician tie everyone together now one decade later. Sometimes I get anxious in crowds and especially with strangers, but I did not feel that way for even a minute before, during, and after the concert. Maybe it’s a mix of the Bay Area/California and long-time BABY vibes. (Also fun sidenote: some people and I were comparing our tattoos in line and we said “Okay now it’s time for Yongguk to do a tattoo tour. Show the chest piece pls” -- So when Yongguk came out in that button-up shirt with only two buttons buttoned and his chest tattoo on full display… I need y’all to know we manifested that for everyone’s benefit. 😩🫡)

>>REACTION TO THE CONCERT & SONGS<< I’m not sure how long people were lined up for, but I arrived around 5PM (doors opened at 6PM and the concert started at 7PM) and I ended up standing to the right of the stage (Yongguk’s left) in the second/third-ish row right next to the speakers with an amazing up close view the entire night. (In hindsight, I should have remembered to bring my ear plugs because I’m not as young as I used to be and should probably take better care of my eardrums and hearing lol). Also, as I mentioned before, I knew the venue relatively well so I knew to go to the side closer to the stage rather than standing several rows back in the middle even if it meant having not as wide of a view of the stage. The person next to me and I were super excited because our angle meant we were going to be able to see the minute Yongguk appeared from off stage and onto the stage. 

Although normally I do not listen to the setlist of artists before their concerts, I hadn’t listened to Yongguk consistently in years so I did look up the setlist and made my own Spotify playlist to get myself hyped up and ready to sing along. As soon as Yongguk came out, I feel like I metaphorically blacked out for the first couple songs (GMT, Up, Race) because I did not remember those performances until I watched others’ fancams. I think I came to my senses during “Rain on Me” because that is THE twerk anthem. The sex appeal and confidence from him from the start of the concert (and especially during “Rain on Me”) was no joke. I feel like my jaw was probably embarrassingly dropped wide open for all of the first songs. There’s also something feral that awakes inside me everytime he says “you never fucking know” and the chorus of “UFO” starts then his voice DROPS a register as he starts rapping and hearing that live??? I was transported to another dimension.

When he started singing “Hikikomori” then went into “I Remember” I think it was then I realized he was doing this tour for us -- for the fans and the BABYz who have been here the whole time (or at least a very long time). As I’m writing this now and reflecting, everything he said during his ments/talks was him just continuously thanking us, telling us how much he loves us, and saying how it’s been “such a long time”. I literally could choke up thinking about it right now how he’s waited just as long as we have.

Yongguk asked the audience to put their phones down so he could make eye contact with every person. And like someone said, “when Bang Yongguk tells you to do something, you do it no questions asked.” Then he started singing “Screwed Up” while literally looking at every corner of the venue, balcony, floor, sidestage -- literally my delulu mind was convinced he was staring and flirting with me too. I lost the “IDGAF if this man notices me” war right then and there. (I have yet to find a fancam of “Screwed Up”, which is fair because he told us to put our phones down, but if anyone has a video of him literally making flirty eyes to the entire audience, PLEASE send it to me.) 

Right after “Screwed Up”, he goes into “Green” and at the end said something similar to “I wrote Green so I could sing it with all of my fans one day, so thank you for singing along with me.” and I just about sobbed. 

By “Ride or Die” and “YA” he is fully body rolling everywhere on stage, flirting with every single person in the audience, and everyone is losing their minds (including me).

Also at some point during the show he started sending so many air kisses to everyone. He also would be (seemingly) speechless in between sets and just repeated “wow… woah…” and kept showing his gummy smile 😭 The cheers were so loud inside the venue sometimes my ears were ringing just from the crowd singing and screaming so I wonder if he was in awe or wasn’t expecting that? (Even though he deserves all the love!)

Then at some point the crowd started chanting “take it off” (meaning his shirt that was truly barely hanging onto him) and he gets SHY and kept asking “Why?” -- I just don’t understand how someone can go from biting his shirt, flirting with the entire audience, body rolling nonstop on stage, to a completely genuine “I’m so shy” cute smiley lil baby. He was so cute I could barely process him going from rapping his lungs out to “uwu vibes” in the matter of seconds and the only single thought my single braincell had was “so cute so cute so cute”. Yongguk is truly the duality of mankind. (He did eventually give one more ab flash [in addition to his “tattoo sticker” promo shirt lifting] so you can find that photo floating around on social media.)

He threw water (from bottles he drank out of) into the crowd twice during “OFF” and “YAMAKAZI” and I have never been happier to be blessed with holy water. I think “OFF” is my favorite hype song in recent years so I absolutely loved hearing that live -- despite it being toward the second half of the show, his energy never stopped and the crowd’s energy also kept getting more and more hyped.

Towards the end Yongguk said, “Although tonight is the last U.S. stop for the tour, it’s not a goodbye. I promise to come back… I’ve said this all tour, but as much as you all love me, please also love yourself.” Before starting “Orange Drive”, Yongguk dedicated the song to his fans and his grandfather in heaven. Then during the encore, alongside the usual “Xie Xie” and “See You Later” he also sang “Ride or Die” one more time and did a lot of fanservice. 

His marketing worked because all the merch was soldout after the show, but I was able to snag the "tattoo sticker" sheet just like he suggested :') -- I am lowkey glad I was unable to get a meet & greet ticket because I feel like I was already internally combusting at the thought of having to meet him and take a selfie after the concert, so if it actually happened I probably would've externally exploded.

ALSO -- This man’s stamina is no joke though because he really kept going for a full 1.5 hours and jumping around on stage with minimal “ments/talking” in between songs. If this hadn’t been the last stop on his tour, I would have definitely considered attending another stop. If I had known how amazing of a performer he was and how great the energy would be to hear everything live (from him and the crowd), I would’ve balled out and gone to the LA stop the day before.

>>FUTURE?<< Yongguk promised he would release another album in the future and go on tour once again. Though none of us know when that will be, I know I will wait with anticipation for this experience to happen again (and again if he and/or other B.A.P members decide to tour). The combined elements of a small venue, love from BABYz and Yongguk, and seeing someone I feel like grew up alongside me is something that I won’t ever have the right words to describe, but can only feel. media release: BANG YONGGUK Releases New EP, 3, Ahead of His Upcoming US Tour

Bang Yongguk is back with his third EP, 3. This comes ten months since the release of his second mini-album, THE COLORS OF LOVE. Bang Yongguk has been preparing 3 for a long time time, releasing it as a special present to fans on his birthday. He chose to experiment with new genres that he had never tried before, which can be heard throughout the songs included in the album.

“I would like to first say thank you to all my fans who gave me a lot of inspiration when I started working on the new album after concluding the world tour. I worked on this album with great joy, and I hope you’re able to resonate with that emotion while listening to this album. Please continue sending your support and love, thank you.” – Bang Yongguk 

This EP has six new songs, including two title tracks, “MOVIMENTO” (main title track) and “BAD (feat. YOUHA)” (sub-title track). The other songs are “IXLU,” “NUMB,” “BUSS IT DOWN,” and “IXLU  (Clean ver.).” Bang Yongguk is credited with taking part in lyric writing, composing, and arranging each of the tracks on the album.

“The biggest goal of going on a tour is sharing my music, indeed, but I also feel like I embark on the tour every year for new challenges. Bang Yongguk Chronicles His Journey With ‘RACE’ In An Exclusive Interview

KHIGH: We would first like to congratulate you on your latest single ‘RACE’. How does it feel to finally make a comeback?

Bang Yongguk: I want to express my gratitude towards all the staff that helped my music to come out again to the world and I would also like to thank my fans who have been waiting for me.

KHIGH: What made you select ‘RACE’ as your comeback single? What is the message that you’re trying to share?

Yonnguk: This is a song that compares life to racing in F1. This song contains the meaning that our lives are the same as F1 sports, where we cannot finish the race if we do not stop at the pit for maintenance.

KHIGH: What was the inspiration behind ‘RACE’?

Yongguk: I got a lot of inspiration from watching F1 documentary films. I don’t actually own a car, though. Haha!

KHIGH: The music video for ‘RACE’ is so trippy and cool. Are there any fun behind-the-scenes stories while filming it?

Yongguk: I remember wearing colored lenses for the first time ever since my debut. I’m not sure if I’ll be able to wear such lenses again or not but it was a pleasant experience.

KHIGH: You were part of one of the biggest K-Pop groups and even had a successful solo career with the much-loved album ‘BANGYONGGUK’. Was it intimidating while preparing for a comeback after two years?

Yongguk: Not at all. I think I could enjoy preparing it during the break and it was a time for me to develop myself, to create more new and extraordinary music. Now I wish to tell you all my story through it.

KHIGH: We are also eagerly waiting for your next album. Are there any spoilers that you can share with us?

Yongguk: It will be a more casual album than my last studio album. I would appreciate it if you could enjoy the music itself!

KHIGH: Congratulations on also launching your own agency CONSENT! What are your plans for it?

Yongguk: My primary goal is to wrap up the Bang Yongguk albums as planned in 2022.

KHIGH: You even produced JUST B’s title track ‘Damage’ which fans loved. Is your process different when you are making music for someone other than yourself?

Yongguk: I would say making music as a producer is more exciting. The process of suggesting concepts or directions and creating music for friends is very detailed and fun. I’m also in the middle of the process to become a K-Pop producer by learning the pros and cons of it.

KHIGH: You have tried all kinds of things from producing to opening an agency and even making the documentary film ‘Breath’. What kind of projects would you like to try next that you haven’t done before?

Yongguk: Probably, movie soundtracks and acting are the projects that I’m looking forward to this year.

KHIGH: You’re known for experimenting with all kinds of genres from rock and hip hop to jazz. Would you be interested in something like Bollywood or Indian music?

Yongguk: To be honest, I didn’t get to have a chance to see much of it but I am definitely interested and enjoy learning various kinds of music from all over the world. In terms of it, both Bollywood and Indian music are very new and interesting to me.

KHIGH: You and the other members of B.A.P are still close and in touch, so what would you say if you got to have a collaboration with some of them?

Yongguk: I think we can do it together at any time!

KHIGH: Fans were touched that you still refer to yourself as B.A.P’s leader. Can we expect a reunion in the near future?

Yongguk: Realistically, I don’t think anyone can force the reunion. Each member has their own company, and we cannot just do it regardless of the business aspects. But we are still together on the ground called B.A.P.

KHIGH: They have also been eagerly waiting to see you perform live. Any plans for a concert soon?

Yongguk: Due to this Covid-19 pandemic, we are in a very difficult situation in regard to those tour projects that were being planned. I also want to go meet my fans as soon as possible. I will be praying for it.

KHIGH: Finally, any last words for your fans who were waiting so long for you?

Yongguk: I’d like to say thank you to the fans who have always been a great support to me. I will always be making great music so that I can pay back on the consistent support and love I get from fans. Love you all and thank you.

Yet another GD. This time in another style, giving clear Cruella vibes. I always loved his split dual color hairstyle (More the pink version, but I had to use the black and white one for obvious reasons) .

So this piece I did already in my new job. I was finally working as an animator, but it wasn´t in my country. I had to move to London. It was frightening and exciting at the same time. And I´ve been here since then. So yeah, this quarantine got me miles and miles away from my family. But thanks to modern technology, I have constant videocalls with them. I guess the weirdest thing will be this week, cause it´s my birthday, and also my brother’s. And I’m turning 30, as a cherry on top. This will definitely be an anecdote to remember.

On a brighter note. Since I moved to London, I’ve been able to go to a lot of kpop concert. Here a list of them:

- B.A.P (without Yongguk T-T).

- Yongguk (without B.A.P) (still getting over the fact they left the company and now are all doing their own stuff).

- Zico king of the Zungle tour.

- BTS love yourself tour.

- Super M we are the future tour.

So there´s one advantage of living in London. I got to see most of my favourite koreans.

Funny story with the Zico concert. I was on my way to work, checking instagram on the bus. When I see a post from him letting us know he was already in London. I was perplexed. I knew he was on tour. But I don´t know why I thought he was doing the asia part first, and that there was still time for the europe ones. So I hadn´t checked dates or tickets or anything. But I was wrong, and the concert was that night!

So first thing I do when I arrive at the office is check for the venue and tickets available. I wasn´t convinced I could go so I didn´t buy any. And I strugled all day trying to decide what to do.

In the end I just went straight to the venue. Took the underground as fast as I could, and hoped I would arrive in time. I did, and I was lucky enough there were some tickets left. So I bought one. And it was one of the best concerts I´ve been to here (the Big Bang one I went to when I was still in uni is still number one). It was a rather small venue, so even from my spot on nearly the last row on the second floor, I had a great view. And Zico was really good on stage.

Sang Nalin had a small crush on her sunbae, Bang Yongguk, when she had first transferred to the same high school that he attended in her first year of high school. He was the one that gave her a tour of the school because she had bumped into him on her first day there. Because of that the principal had made Yongguk give Nalin the tour of the school so that the principal himself didn’t have to do it. Nalin had apologized for having him to be the one to show her around instead, but he had laughed it off, dismissing the issue and happily showed her around the school’s ground. While doing so, Yongguk asked Nalin basic questions every now and then and she would answered them as best as she could without giving away too much information.

The next day, thinking that Yongguk was just friendly to her because of the principal, Nalin didn’t acknowledge him, but Yongguk did acknowledge her, and she found herself being introduced to more of her sunbae. From that day on, they had a sunbae and hoobae relationship, but became casual friends. During her stay at her new high school, Nalin started to have feelings for Yongguk. She knew that she shouldn’t have started liking him, but he had such a friendly nature about him, despite the way he look like a jjang, and she couldn’t help it since liking him just felt so easy and natural.

Before she could express her growing like for him, since she never found the right time to tell him, and whenever she did, she was always interrupted, Yongguk’s time for graduation had approach. Unfortunately, at around that same time, her family had to move once again and she had no choice, but to transfer schools once again. Nalin was unable to attend Yongguk's graduation as well as unable to say goodbye to him. Nalin was deeply regretful that she was unable to tell Yongguk that she liked him before leaving to another province. Yongguk never got to see Nalin again after that day, and he was unable to call her phone which happened to become out of service.

After four years has passed, Nalin returned back to the province where she had attended the same high school with Bang Yongguk. She was permanently there to stay and live because her parents had finally decided to settle themselves in one area after having to move from one place to another place over the years. Nalin wondered if Yongguk was still living there because she clearly hadn’t forgotten about him, but she assumed that he may have forgotten about her though.

While helping her little sister shop for new school supplies and clothing for school at the mall, Nalin had bumped into Yongguk. Both were clearly surprise to see one another after so long and Yongguk suggested that they should catch up whenever she was free, and the two exchanged phone numbers. Nalin had gotten a new phone with services after her father had disconnected their services after the move, but she lost all of her previous contacts and was unable to contact anyone that she had saved on there.

Nalin took up his offered to hang out after deciding what to do for three days, and the two quickly caught up spending the whole day together to see what had happened after she left. They spent every free moment they had to just hang out and spend their days like they did back in high school. Nalin laughed and told Yongguk that he was still the same like he was in high school, on one of their outings, while Yongguk told her the same thing. It was like they’ve never spent a day without the other there.

Nalin thought she had let her feelings of Yongguk fly away, but she realized that her feelings for him were still inside her heart, ready to stir to life again. She wondered if she would be able to tell him her feelings after all these years, but for now, she kept them still and enjoyed her time that she was spending with him. Like today, during one of their usual hang outs, which happened to be on Valentine’s Day, they were at the mall spending their time and day away on whatever interested them.

They checked out the music stores for the latest music, jamming out to all the love songs that were playing, until they got kicked out for singing too loudly. Next, they went clothes shopping and noticing that it was Valentine’s Day, they tried on all the couple outfits they could find and pair up. While having a hilarious time, the two in the end, ended up not buying anything, and one of the salesperson told them to leave the store. Even if they didn’t buy anything, they had taken pictures of all the clothes they had tried on and laughed about it as they exited the store. They decided to play around at other stores before Nalin became hungry for something sweet.

 As Yongguk and Nalin made their way to the front of the line of the ice cream parlor, the cashier automatically gave them the couple ice cream special and told them that the two made a great pair. Before Nalin could say anything, Yongguk had pulled her away along while taking the ice cream treat. Before she could bicker, Yongguk had stuck a spoonful of ice cream into her mouth, smiled at her before digging into it himself. She rolled her eyes and began eating it too. As both Yongguk and Nalin were enjoying their ice cream, they couldn’t help noticed that other people who were actual couples were enjoying the same treat as them. Remembering her own feelings, and today and the whole mood just felt right to tell Yongguk how she felt, but she wanted to get him something first to help her.

Nalin coughed to get Yongguk’s attention, which he looked up at her and Nalin told him that she would be right back and that she had to go get something and that he should just wait for her right here. Nalin ran off to get him a bundle of heart-shaped balloons that she saw a cart person was selling. She found them cute, sweet, and she knew that his favorite color was still red, and all of them balloons were just perfect to give to him. Because they were filled with helium, and if he didn’t accept them, she could finally just let feelings for him float away and move on. After purchasing the balloons, Nalin made her way back to Yongguk who was still seated in his seat from when she had left him. Yongguk noticing the balloons asked her about it and so she told him how she felt about him since first meeting him back in high school.

Nalin told him that she wanted to let him know, but the timing was never right, and when she did find the right time, she had to move away. Then after four years had passed, she still had feelings for him when she thought she put them away. Then meeting him again she felt them stir inside of her and she wanted him to finally know how she felt. It was because this whole time while spending today with him on Valentine’s Day which just happened to aid her and gave her the right time to tell him finally. After saying what she’d been waiting to tell him, Nalin took her seat across from him again, digging into the ice cream with her other free hand and waited to see how he would respond. She also told him that these five balloons represented the years that she had had feelings for him.

Still scooping the now melting frozen treat into his mouth, Yongguk responded to Nalin’s words by taking the balloons’ strings into his own fist and then looked at her and confessed that he too liked her for all of those years and that he still did. He explained that he wanted to tell her on his graduation day, but she didn’t show up, and that he couldn’t reach her by phone because it had become disconnected. So when they did finally meet again after these four years, he was happy to see her and wanted to hang out with her that much more.

Yongguk then reached for her hand that he took the balloons from and placed the strings into her own palm along with his own hand, the two holding hands with the balloons’ strings between them. Yongguk then told Nalin that these five balloons represented the years that he had had feelings for her as well. He then clasped her own fingers over the strings so she would now be holding the balloons instead. Speechless, Nalin blinked a few times at him, then a few times at the bundle of balloons she was now holding, and then again at him, and then she flung ice cream bits at him.

Nalin flamed at Yongguk about how could he go and give her back the same balloons that she got for him, and telling her the same thing that she told him about the meaning of the five balloons. While saying all of that, she flung more and more ice cream bits at him, fuming that he just did and said the same thing to her that she did for him. Yongguk found himself laughing knowing that he did tick her off by doing the same thing, but he truly did feel the same about her, as he tried to stop her from flinging the rest of the melting ice cream at him.

Failing to stop Nalin, Yongguk used one of his hands to scoop up some of the puddle of the now couple ice cream special and smeared it across Nalin’s face. Nalin, who was surprised by the sudden attack, halted her flinging, and stared at Yongguk who then took this chance and kissed her, surprising her even more. Because she was highly surprised and not really functioning, she unintentionally let go of the balloons. The two were then interrupted by a security guard who asked them what they were doing wasting good ice cream, and causing a ruckus for the other customers.

Before Nalin could registered to what was happening around her, she felt herself being pulled out of her chair by Yongguk’s grip. She finally registered that the two of them were now being chased by the security guard as Yongguk led them quickly away, laughing all the way. The two made it out of the mall and to where they had parked their cars, and stopped running and hid alongside it from the security guard’s view. When the coast was cleared, Yongguk pulled Nalin to her feet, but at this time Nalin finally got her senses back and slapped at him for ruining their outing, especially on Valentine’s Day.

He grabbed a hold of her to stop her slapping and warned her if she continued to ‘attack’ him again, he would kiss her again. That seriously made Nalin stopped slapping him again, but he lied and kissed her anyway. After Yongguk pulled away, he told Nalin that she still had ice cream on her lips and he wanted to kiss them away. Nalin’s face became red due to the blushing, and at that moment she went on a full power ‘attack’ on Yongguk feeling embarrassed and flustered about everything. Unfortunately for her, Yongguk had turned her around, making her back press against his chest, while his hands and arms had crossed her own against her body, trapping her. Nalin finally gave up as Yongguk continued laughing into her ear, saying how happy he was that the both of them were now able to be more than sunbae and hoobae, and more than just casual, good friends.

📸 Kpop Concerts: [RECAP] Bang Yongguk Concludes “‘III’ THE US TOUR” with A Bang in Hollywood A/N: posted on 240511

After completing 10 shows across the United States, Bang Yongguk met Los Angeles fans for the final show of ‘III’ THE US TOUR 2024 at the Vermont Hollywood on Sunday, April 28. This tour is a follow up to the successful The Colors of Bang Yongguk Tour last summer and is centered around his latest and third EP, 3. 

Many fans first got to know the deep-voiced rapper Bang Yongguk from his time in the K-Pop boy group B.A.P which debuted in 2012.Since pursuing his solo career, he has been releasing new music and making a concerted effort to connect with international fans.

Despite his dominant stage presence, Yongguk humbly introduced himself and politely bowed to the audience. He quickly went back to his performing persona for “Ride or Die,” “IXLU,” “RACE,”and“NUMB”where he had fans jumping up and down alongside him in excitement. Fans did not let a single moment go to waste as they used any silence between songs to bark affectionately and cheer for Yongguk as he drank water.

Yongguk shyly asked fans if they listened to his latest album and was met with loud cheers and fans proudly waving their newly bought albums in the air for him to see. He thanked fans for listening to all his new songs and explained that this album is filled with things he’s wanted to say but hasn’t said before. Hilariously, when he prefaced giving advice to fans with “I’m not your teacher but…” fans went wild at the thought of him as their teacher. Confused but amused, Yongguk held back his laugh with a “whoa, relax” before proceeding with his advice. He encouraged fans to take on challenges they have not done yet because you only live once. He also reassured fans that there are more new songs coming their way and to not forget to get his new album and merchandise.

Fans did not want the night to end yet and quickly began chanting “Bang Yongguk!” and “Encore!” Yongguk then reemerged on stage sporting his tour merchandise t-shirt and beanie for the party anthem “Rain On Me.” He performed “MOVIMENTO” again where he poured water on both the audience and himself. Fans cheekily threw various undergarments onto the stage and Yongguk gathered up all of them and held them out for everyone to see. After an encore performance of “BUSS IT DOWN,” he performed his final song of the night “Orange Drive” with lots of fan service as he pointed directly to fans for the lyrics “I love you.” Even after the song ended and he said his final goodbyes, he lingered on stage to sign fans’ albums and touch fans’ hands.

Bang Yongguk and his fans were beyond delighted to be reunited and share a memorable night together after a year apart. It definitely won’t be long before Yongguk returns with new music and sides of himself to share with U.S. fans!

First solo album, Bang Yongguk [BANGYONGGUK] Melon Music Story Interview

Bang Yongguk released first full album [BANGYONGGUK] after his single. Through his single “Hikikomori” he made a good start as a solo artist, Hikiomori became No.1 on the iTunes K-Pop chart in 14 countries around the world. Bang Yongguk’s first album has a different color from his albums which we have seen while he was in a group activity. Through interviews, we will reveal his thoughts and stories that he had while working on this album.

“When I completely got off my shining/amazing and loved appearance from myself and faced myself with a mirror in the room. At that moment, I thought that I had to make this album. You can feel like this album is terribly lonely and has a terribly personal story. But even if it looks like that, I wanted to show it to the people outside. I only had to find myself, who, in order to capture all the things as it was, was hiding from everything and wrote a journal/diary about his own old days. That’s how the old diary that I found was a combination of reality and unrealistic imagination, and that’s how it became the music and the lyrics contained in my album.” - Bang Yongguk

Q: Since the debut, it’s your first full album that you released as a solo artist. How do you feel about it?

It’s my first solo album that I’ve been working on for over six months, so I’m thrilled/refreshed. I’ve released a single as a solo artist but this is my first full album, so I’m curious about the talks(opinions) of many fans and listeners. Of course, because I had to deal with a lot of things by myself(on my own), I can’t really say that everything were smoothly(without difficulties) but I don’t have any regrets because I think that I grew up even more on my own. I don’t want to call myself as an artist yet. I just wanted to make a wonderful album that will tell my story in the future, so I hope that it will be an opportunity for many people to know about the music from “Bang Yongguk” album and through this album, I want to become a sincere musician who can listen to many people.

Q: You were responsible for the full production of this album and most of the album work. What was the fun/hard part of doing so much work on your own?

First of all, it was hard to work on dozens of tracks at once, so all the songs were arranged and composed together. It took longer than I expected. As for the lyrics, it didn’t take much time. It wasn’t basically an album that needed some storytelling or a nice vocabulary, nor than that, I think it took me a long time to be honest with myself. Of course, it happens with all the albums I’ve been/working on, but since when I’m working on every album with the idea that I’m changing my life and health to music (put my life and health into making it), I spent all my time on this album. Now that I’m done, I think I’ll need time to take care of myself. I think this process shared the hard and the fun things in itself.

Q: Before the release of the album, you have released “Travel” in short film format. Please introduce the reason why you released this song with the short film.

“A Short Film About BANGYONGGUK” is a new project. I think it will be released sequentially in a documentary format. It’s not a big thing actually. But I’ve been recording the overall work process and my everyday life since the summer of 2018. Literally, as I said, they’re all focused on me and showing what the person actually is. If you’re curious about me as a person, you’ll probably love it. I’ve been working on this project for so long, so I’m looking forward to it as well.

First of all, the first short film was made in a music video format. Of course, “Travel” is also a song from this regular album. I was really traveling while I worked on “Travel” and actually, it has dual meanings. First of all, it may look as it’s a fun trip, but the message in the music has a hidden image of a person who travels through life. While I was working on this short film, I was wondering which song, from the rest of the songs in album, would fit this film the most. I think the song “Travel” really fit it well. While I was shooting this film, I’ve prepared the song too, so first I wanted to release this song together with this short film.

Q: What’s the background of “Ya” and how did you made it?

“Ya” was the beginning of my funny imagination. I don’t know if my fans remember it, but when they asked me which nickname i’d use for the person I love I said “Ya”. We’ve talked about it on a radio. It also has a double meaning, and I wanted to match this part with the secret part of my diary because I, as all ordinary guys, Imagine some sexy stuff too. In order to match this atmosphere, we needed analog synth lead or blues instruments, and when we made a base so it became a background for this song. It’s the sound of imagination of how two people, man and woman, who love each other, enjoy the process of becoming to wish for each other more (wanting each other).

Q: What’s the point of appreciation of “Ya” (What should we pay attention to)

I think it’s better to let people who listen to this song to imagine/think about their own point freely rather than to choose it. It’s either greasy or gross or sexy or exciting. Personally, I just like my voice in this song.

Q: Please select three of your favorite songs from the album.

“Codex Gigas” It’s one of the secret imaginations that I note in my diary. I’ve always been interested in the universe, the myths, the third world, the God and rumors about him and the legends. “Codex Gigas” is one of the unrealistic imaginations too. I was curious about the God’s gaze/look when he looks at human beings. Gladly, I had the chance to make an interesting point into the music. I hope that this music will provide a variety of interpretations and stories.

“I Need to Talk” I made this music because I really needed to talk to myself. When I was in a terrible depression, I really hated myself. I needed to talk to people when I felt like I couldn’t get over myself, but I couldn’t. In this music, I can’t get out of this. I yell at people for a conversation, but I don’t get help. In conclusion, I’m depressed. It means that the only person I’m going to talk to with is another me (which is different from my personality). Through this music I wanted to say that I can’t get away. But I don’t want to limit interpretation to my own intentions.

“AM 4:44” I don’t know exactly, but I worked on this song four or five years ago, and at that time, I had legal problems with my company. I thought I had to include this music in my album to complete the album “BANGYONGGUK”. It’s a song that I wrote during a hard time. I still have a hard time listening to it. I really want to do this live. When we were in the group, we couldn’t do a live show. So I had a bit of regret. Rather than listening to it, I want to do it live. I think it’ll be really cool.

Q: It’s very impressive that the album package is in the format of your own work notes. Why did you release it as your work notes?

Just like if we talk about the title of the album, I wanted to reveal everything because it’s all about me. The process and completion of this album, I wanted to share all of this with people. I wanted to be naked myself, I didn’t want to hid anything. So I decided to use my album art work.

Q: In which way do you want this album to be recognized by fans and the public?

I want you to know that “BANGYONGGUK” is a project about a person named Bang Yongguk, his music, his life and just the things like they are now. And I hope this album will be filled with many people’s thoughts rather than limited interpretation or intention.

Q: What are your plans for future activities?

I’m going on a tour of five European countries soon. After that, I wanted to meet with my fans (in Korea), so I’m preparing for a fanmeeting. And I’m still shy about it, but I’m writing. It’s something I really wanted to do and I think it will be published in an essay book soon. It’s also one of the projects I’m looking forward to. I think I’ll make my next album after a lot of consideration/thinking. Actually, I’m also curious about my future plans. What should I do?

Q: Lastly, say something to those who listen to this album!

I made this album without any shame about myself. I think this album became the chance for me/have helped me to grow up as a person. I look forward for my new image and my music in the future. I’d like a lot of people to come with me on this way. And I want to say that I always love and respect the fans who always supported me. I want to continue to express something. I don’t know what this “something” is going to be, but I feel free through releasing this album now; I feel so comfortable. I hope you look forward to Bang Yongguk from now on. Thank you.
