Bullshit Guide to College: How to do okay at school
Tumblr media
College is hard. Sometimes you just don’t want to do all your reading, studying for 5 hours, cooking healthy meals, cleaning, etc.. These are tips to bullshit your way to college. Most of these are common sense but you should still be reminded. (Note: this is a bullshit way this is ways to do work. Like baby steps to being productive if you can’t make the full leap)
Tip 1: Go to Class
If you are not even going to class and just staying in bed all day and watching Netflix, the first step is to go to class. Even if you are 20 minutes late, or going to be on your phone the entire class, or sleeping it is still better than not going at all. If you go to class and fall asleep for 90% of the time that means you were awake for 10% of the time. Even if you are completely confused in the lecture you can still hear about terms or concepts and at least have some sense of what you don’t know.
Tip 2: Pay Attention
Just because I said you can go to class and not pay attention doesn’t mean it is a good idea. Paying attention obviously will increase your chance of understanding the class and getting a better grade. That means stay awake, listen to what the professor is saying, what is on the slides, and take notes. You don’t have to take really nice notes or even notes that cover everything that the professor said. It is hard to write down everything the professor said + what is on the slide + your own ideas. Just write down what you can, pay more attention to what seems important. If you pay attention then you have a better chance of remembering concepts or ideas then if you were not paying attention.
Tip  3: Go to the review session
Most professors that are not evil have a review session. GO! You will get an idea of what is on the test. Figure out what you don’t know, and study that. If you are lucky they might give hints on what to focus on. This is also the time to ask questions. Better late than never.
Tip 4: Readings
This is probably the thing I am the WORST at. But my suggestion is skim the reading. If you don’t feel like it or it is 100pgs worth skimming, read the summary and/or intro. It gives you an idea of what the reading is about. Or read the bolded parts, and look for definitions for concepts. Depending on how much of your lectures cover the reading you might not have to do it. You still should but you don’t have to. Although you definitely should at skim if your professor does comprehension quizzes.
Tip 5: Prioritize
Write down everything you need to do. Including things outside of school (like laundry, cooking, doctor appointments, etc...)Then figure out what are the most important things and what needs to be done right away. Decide what order based on that. You might need to give some things up or push them for a later date and that is okay.
So these tips are super general and I might make more...  but yeah that is it for now. Bye!

How to Get Into NYU: Admissions and Acceptance Rate
NYU is known for its world-class academics and global appeal. NYU has the largest number of international students of any institution in the United States. So, it’s no surprise that applications to NYU increased by 300% over the past two decades, but NYU acceptance rates fell from 65% to 29%. The NYU 2021 acceptance rate fell to an all-time low of 12.8%, indicating that NYU is now among the most selective colleges in the country.
If you want to attend NYU, you must ensure that your application can stand out. NYU’s admission rate decreases year after year, so you’ll need to be strong in all aspects of your application if you want to be accepted to NYU.

Roommates
Okay, so you know what school you’re going to. Congrats! That’s a huge deal. Now, sometime soon, the school will give you your roommate’s contact info. Go ahead and reach out to them! The sooner you can connect the better your relationship will be.
Starting out: It’s important that you come off as excited to room with them, even if you aren't. This will help you to build a good starting place that will help you guys communicate well before you even get to school. Here’s a template for your first message:
“Hi! Is this ________ (their name)?”
[Hopefully they say yes]
“Great, my name is _________ (your name) and I think we’re rooming together at _____________ (school name) next year!
Once you’ve got that out of the way, you may want to learn more things about them. You can ask where they’re from, what they like to do, what their major is, if they’re excited for school, if they play any sports, etc. You can also ask for any social media they have, which is a great way to get a snapshot of their life.
As time goes on, there are some other things you might want to ask them. Talking about themes of room and who’s buying what is really important. My first year, my roommate brought the microwave and I brought the fridge, so we didn’t have to spend a ton of money and have doubles. Let the conversation go wherever is comfortable, and have fun getting to know your new roommate!!

Bullshit Guide to College: Random Study Tip #1
Tumblr media
Make a power point
Something you can do for midterms or finals (or studying in general) is make a power point. It’s great cause you can add visuals, and it’s easy to make and customize. Also once you make it you can study on your phone if you have the google drive app (which you should have). Not only that but you are studying all the topics covered in class as you make the power point.
Suggestion when making the power point:
Organize by topic
Keep the information concise
Add visuals
Make it the way you want to (colorful, minimal, add gif/memes)
BYE!!!
Good luck with the new school year!!!
