Doc ock visiting a doctor

He hasn’t been to one in years. For good reason too. Last time he was there, a team of doctors that joked about his dismay attempted to cut off his metal appendages.

It took some convincing on everyone’s part: Norman, Harry, and even Peter. He needed to go, not for just a checkup, but an analysis on his spine and skin.

They offered to come with him, they had done their dues and gone to one on their own times. They’re distrusting of regular doctors too, some of them are unsure or too confident. They’re either afraid of the process or too confident to use it at all.

However, his newfound family has reassured him that there’s now a doctor that specialized into scientific accidents. How such a thing came to be, he’s not so sure. But the world is ever changing, he supposed.

According to Norman, the doctor assigned to him is also his own. A trusted professional that spent years of study, even being the Osborn’s personal doctor before the messes started to happen.

So, now he sits in a waiting room. He wasn’t one to be nervous, but his foot is tapping and the actuators are worming around the small room. Granted, this office is tucked away, it’s a smaller floor in Oscorp’s one of many buildings.

There wasn’t anyone else in the room, but he can’t help but feeling that the empty space in the room is judging him. Mocking his every move, warning him that he could be trapped just like he was before.

The door separating the lobby from the office opens. “Otto Octavius?” His head goes up to the name, like a deer in headlights he looks at he doctor.

You’re calm, patient with him. So he’s a bit nervous when walking over to you, however, the only way to know is how his actuators are acting.

You do the general checkup on him: height, weight, etc. without really saying a word, it was obvious that the former doctor was nervous, you’d rather not spook him. So you moved slowly.

The X-Ray was also calm. He fully expected to see your expression worsen when you saw how warped his spine is. It was a little funny, his nasal laugh brought you out of your panic.

That’s when he started to talk to you, “I know my weight isn’t flattering, but I swear to you, it’s all adamatium.” You shake your head, the traces of a smile show on your face, “Well, you’d be perfectly healthy for your age. Save for your metalic friends over here.”

Otto nodded, it’s to be expected, Rosie really cleaned him up after college. He started to develop healthy habits for the longest time and still do them in her absence.

However, you know you frightened him when you said, “I can get those off you. If you’d like.” He went stiff, which was what you expected.. but the why is the matter to you.

You had to wrack your brain for a moment, but you made sure to wait for his answer while you tried to find then source of the issue.

You vaguely remember seeing a hospital being destroyed by a patient, along with the public announcement of a bunch of doctors found dead. You can only assume that they took this situation unprofessionally… it’s disappointing seeing how many doctors on their high horses.

“Do you have a process?” Otto asked, his expression unreadable. The actuators fully trained on you. “I’m glad you asked,” you clasp your hands, “Vibrainium magnetized saw. It’s quick and painless I can either remove each tentacle at their bases, so the waistband remains.”

You take a deep breath before introducing the alternative “Or I can remove the needles in your back with open surgery on your back, which is a little more complicated, so you would be sedated for a few hours.”

Otto was speechless, blinking rapidly. Which made you reassure him, “We’re going at your own pace here, don’t worry about making a decision. Just know that you are in good hands.”

“No,” he glances at his failed project, “I want to.” You smile, “What way would you like them removed?”

When Otto returned to the lobby, Norman was there, sitting cross-legged on a sofa. “How was it?”

“Hopeful.” He says, his thumb resting on the card detailing his next visit.

My dear friend who just saw Spider-Man 2 for the first time: Bro, why is Peter even trying to go to school to become a scientist? I thought he was a photographer.

Me, who has not considered this, but knows that Peter is going to argue that the staff photographer job at The Bugle should go to him in the next movie: ....... Good question.

On a real note, the college stuff probably made it into the adaptation for these reasons:

It's one more aspect of a normal life for Peter to try (and fail) to manage with being Spider-Man

It gets him an in with Dr. Otto Octavius

Dr. Connors' assessment of Peter's brilliance and laziness is a prime reason for Otto to give him the speech about using his gifts for the good of mankind, which will be a central theme/conflict of the movie as Peter struggles with losing his powers

It shows that Peter does have ambitions and something to offer outside of his being Spider-Man

That last item is also something demonstrated by his photography skills, but I've thought it over and I think that while he's good at it and enjoys it, it's probably a hobby he's monetizing as opposed to an actual life goal. He takes pictures for The Bugle because he needs the money, he mentions getting fired by Dr. Connors in the first movie, so whatever probably-science-related job he had there didn't work out.

The thing is, all the non-freelance jobs Peter has in the Raimi series don't work out, so I'm not sure how the staff photographer thing would have gone for him in the long run.

Then again... a job like that would allow him to be out of the office on assignment pretty frequently and they probably would have given him somewhat flexible hours (given all the time that has to be spent taking pictures outside normal office hours in order to get the scoop) as long as he was getting his 40 in, getting the work done and keeping in communication.. ... So it might actually be the best kind of full-time work available to him. I know very little about STEM careers, however, so anyone can chime in with more information.

You weren’t entirely sure just how everything had fallen together, how your relationship had spiraled with the English professor. She was beautiful, yes, but she was also married to a man who's beauty could match hers. They were both intelligent, intuitive people, well in love from their college days.

It had taken no time at all for Rosie to first invite you to her room for lunch years ago; you were lucky to have found the time. Coffee, lunches, topics of the classics from art and literature, bouncing back and forth between inspirations and temptations of words. Rosie had a tongue to match the words she often read in her own time, words that somehow managed to inspire you. 

The first piece of art you had offered her was nearly garish to those outside of those conversations. Stunningly bright paints splattered and marked, an image that came from those very words that had swirled around your head. It was Rosie’s statements and observations that had really brought the painting to life. The shapes, the arches, the weight of each stroke; each had been inspired by the conversations you’d had. 

She’d put it in her office as soon as it was framed. You hadn’t even realized just where it had gone until the day it had returned, so perfectly framed and set upon the wall. Your footsteps had stopped short, quite unexpectedly in the moment. Her voice had called out to you within seconds of your steps stopping. 

“It’s beautiful, isn’t it?” Your eyes flashed from the canvas to her. 

“So very.” Those last steps took you to your normal chair, looking up to your coworker. “Is that where it’s been?”

I love Superior Spiderman so much. He tries to be super serious but instead he comes off super goofy.

Dude has a robot sidekick butler that serves guests that was one of the first Spiderman villains. He has the evil scientist look but everyone just treats him normally. He maniacal evil laughs out of nowhere and people just wonder if he's lost his mind.

He took one look at Peter's life and instantly went back to college to get his PhD AGAIN in Peters body because doctor is in his name, always. He will kill you unless his girlfriend, Anna Maria, said no. Then you're on thin fucking ice. He also drops everything for her instantly even if the city is on fire.

When he became Superior Venom he was ready to murder a guy in cold blood for texting and driving. Whereas normally he just says such things are below him and sends a message to the police to deal with it instead.

Despite being one of Spiderman's greatest villains, he started recruiting Spidermen from the Spiderverse to save the Spiderverse from vampires. He led them and organized the whole thing. Multiple times. He even became 1048 (Insomniac) Spidermans friend WHILE 1048 KNEW FULL WELL HE WAS OTTO OCTAVIUS.

He's so un threatening. Everyone just thinks Peter's back in his jerk era. He straight up quit the Avengers and they never even figured out what the hell was up with "spiderman" at that time. They barely even bat an eye.

I haven't gotten to this point in the comics yet but he names himself fucking Elliot Tolliver.

He's great.
