Hello Y'all! Recently @CollectorScum and I went off to Allentown, Pennsylvania for the 44th Semi-Annual 45/78 RPM Music Expo. This could be the most amazing and overwhelming thing for a 7-inch collector to do. Last year I only made it to about 5 or 6 tables. This time I attempted to walk around first and look at the tables before digging. Needless to say, I only made it to 5 or 6 tables. First up was the always amazing Parker's Records out of Ohio. It was also great to finally meet Don in person. He recently went through an incredible medical procedure and it was great to hear he is recovering quickly. I found some long time wants and some that were completely unknown to me. Leading the unknowns is Randolph Bros. Plus "What It Is," parts one and two. Super heavy with female Funk vocal and breaks. Garage / Soul party by The Weekenders "Signed, Sealed, And Delivered," and The Midnighters "Lulu." Long time wants including Ruby Andrews "Let's Get a Groove Going On," The Embracers "Latin Blood," and Earl Lett's "Green Power." Please join us for Sunday Matinee, April 2 from 6PM to 10PM at Low Fidelity - 328 Palisade Ave, Jersey City, NJ 07307 See you there! @primitivesoundsystem #primitivesoundsystem #vinylrules #vinyljunkie #vinyl45s #RareRecords #recordcollection #recordcollector #AllVinylAllTheTime #VinylRules #Punk45s #GarageRock #NewWave #NoWave #ProgRock #HardRock #Funk45s #LatinSoul #Boogaloo #AfroBeat #Jazz45s #Instrumentals @lowfidelitybar #JerseyCity #JerseyCityHeights #SundayMatinee #PinballDJBooth #ParkersRecordsandComics #RandolphBrosPlus #RubyAndrews #TheEmbracers #EarlLett https://www.instagram.com/p/CqZbSoUMKWT/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Just saw 7 Second's calling it quits announcement. I think I quit their music after this release. As a young punk then, I didnt like them thanking U2, not even how slow this record was, just mentioning U2 🤣. As an adult now, I actually dont mind this record, I even spun that 8 minute dub jam at clubs. More power Kevin Seconds! . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . #recordnerd #recordcollection #recordcollector #vinylnerd #vinyljunkie #recordoftheday #recordofthenight #vinylpowerhour #nowspinning #nowplaying #hcpunk #7seconds #kevinseconds #ropstyle #vinlylover #collectorscum (at Fort Greene, Brooklyn)

This First Thursday, September 5th, at D.C.’s Tavern we will not just have one guest, but TWO. Three heads are always better than one, right? It's the King Ghidorah of DJ sets. There may be a common theme throughout but I doubt it, but that is what makes life interesting. TomDash was known for his DotDash party in Brooklyn and is now a regular on WFMU. He describes DotDash Radio with TomDash as, "DIY music for the spirit; bummer jams for happy people; terrestrial music for space travelers; punchy, post-punk jitters, synth drones for the mindful; fuzz-drenched, basement rock to sooth the soul…" CollectorScum a.k.a. Justin Frohwirth has regularly spent the night at D.C.'s playing the rarest and best Punk rock 7-inches the walls have ever absorbed. His collection is one of the most focused and impressive I have ever seen and we are lucky when he takes them out of his studio. BUT, he is considering a major life change, so let's see how things play out. I will say it every time, the patrons of D.C.'s are easily and without a doubt the most patient and tolerant audience. I have played records from every section of my collection and barely a complaint. See you there! Some recent Jazz and Instrumental finds, trades and purchases. I had never seen or heard the Karl Berger which is an aggressive Free Jazz session with some very cool soloing. The Charles Earland is an upgrade from a green label pressing. Been wanting the Weldon forever and received it as a gift from my brother. @CollectorScum comes through with a Hank Mobley upgrade and Sonny Rollins “Worktime,” which turns out to be one of my favorite Jazz sessions ever. The Rollins is in amazing shape and sounds incredible. The recent Brewerytown Beats issue of the unreleased Sounds of Liberation is so good it amazes me to think it went unheard until recently. After discovering Bobby Timmons, from Jazz Messengers LPs I bought when I was a teenager, I obsessively bought every LP I could find. This is easily my favorite and it is so great to finally have an OG Mono copy. It took way too long to find the Upchurch and “Voodoo Chile” is just as good as I remember it. Grover Washington Inner City Blues, is one of my favorite Soul Jazz records, and is a white label promo with the Kudu one-sheet. Lawrence of Newark is an OG upgrade from a reissue I got in the 90’s. Thank you Kevin. #primitivesoundsystem #vinylrules #vinyljunkie #vinylLPS #RareRecords #recordcollection #recordcollector #Jazz #Instrumentals @CollectorScum @RevillaGrooves @HoldFastAsburyPark @TunesHoboken @kevintomalinsta #SonnyRollins #BobbyTimmons #KarlBerger #PhilUpchurch #CharlesEarland #WeldonIrvine #GroverWashington #LarryYoung https://www.instagram.com/p/B1NYmr6AE0U/?igshid=p6py6fcufsgi

Hello Y'all. Want lists and holy grails are what keep us digging. The possibility of finding an unknown is what drives us. It is insane to look at a collection that contains all of those. This is the third trip to Princeton for a Punk collection since the incredible one they got in over the summer. John and Rob are amazing so I love going there. This collection was focused on DC and the fact that most of these were unplayed is incredible. The Teen Idles is a “second” since it is the paper cover not the heavier one. The SOA is a third (w/ Black Flag bars and no band name on label). The Bad Brains is an upgrade to a stamped sleeve. I already have a second, but with no stamp which is now in the sales box. I had never heard of The Shirkers. They are a DC band on Limp. I would have listened to it because of the titles but I was with @CollectorScum and he basically handed it to me and said, you need that. It is really fucking good. Another long time want, by one of the most influential bands on me as a listener and musician, "The Modern Dance" by Pere Ubu. There were a few Pagans 7-inches but I am only looking for two...now I am only looking for one. Come hear these and a whole bunch more at Sunday Matinee, November 20, from 6 to 10PM at Low Fidelity - 328 Palisade Ave, Jersey City, NJ. And remember, if you don't like what you hear, wait a few minutes and we will be somewhere else entirely. @primitivesoundsystem #primitivesoundsystem #vinyljunkie #vinyl45s #RareRecords #recordcollection #recordcollector #AllVinylAllTheTime #VinylRules #Punk45s #Funk45s #Jazz45s #LowFidelityBar @lowfidelitybar #JerseyCity #JerseyCityHeights #JCHeights #SundayMatinee #PinballDJBooth @princeton_record_exchange #TeenIdles #SOA #DischordRecords #LimpRecords #PereUbu #BadBrains #Pagans #TheShirkers #ChrisStameyAndThedBs #TheModulators https://www.instagram.com/p/ClH7fBvOZxQ/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

The 43rd Annual Allentown 45/78 RPM Record Show. Despite being obsessed with 7-inch 45 records I have never been to this record show. I now realize that was not a good decision. @CollectorScum offered to drive and off we went. Normally at record shows it takes a few walks around to find decent 7-inches but this was a room full of them. I was definitely a little overwhelmed and possibly off my game but... that doesn't mean I walked away empty handed. It was unexpected and great to see @TonySaxon and he hit me off with some great records including “Esquerita and The Voola,” and a promo copy of Oliver Nelson's "Skull Sessions." In one of the last boxes I looked I found a long time want, All The People featuring Robert Moore "Cramp Your Style." Other long time wants I picked up were Lee Williams & The Cymbals "L.C. Funk," and Joe Frazier "Knock Out Drop." Finding previously unknown to me picture sleeves satisfies both my designer side as much as my collector one. I picked up the paper sleeve version of the Bo Diddley 1958 ep, James Brown Caldonia b/w Evil, The Moons "Gammera The Invincible," Mad's Alfred E. Neuman sings "What Me worry" with a Don Martin pic sleeve, Parliament - "Aqua Boogie," The Soul Clan "Soul Meeting," Moby Grape - Omaha, and The 4 Seasons Beggin'. I will definitely be back. #primitivesoundsystem #vinylrules #vinyljunkie #vinyl45s #RareRecords #recordcollection #recordcollector #7inches #Soul #Funk #Instrumentals #MadMagazine #DonMartin #BoDiddley #Esquerita #OliverNelson #JoeFrazier #LeeWilliamsAndTheCymbals #AllThePeopleFeaturingRobertMoore #TheMoons #Gammera #DonMartin #AlredENeuman #JamesBrown #Parliament #TheSoulClan #MobyGrape #The4Seasons #AllentownRecordShow @tonysaxon @cyclotronic https://www.instagram.com/p/Cb1Z0wYOUHN/?utm_medium=tumblr

Sounds and Dance Music by Frankie Stein And His Ghouls – Introducing Frankie Stein And His Ghouls, Ghoul Music, and Monster Sounds And Dance Music (Power Records) THE IDEAL PARTY RECORDS! Halloween is one of my favorite holidays though I have never really enjoyed dressing up. The draw has always been the amazing imagery, movies, sounds, and of course the music. Many years ago after leaving the record shop I stopped at 12th Street Books. They had these massive record bins that the average person couldn't even reach the back row. I pulled a copy of Ghoul Music and didn't even care if it was in good shape... I had to have that cover. Turns out it was clean and the music was as great as the cover. Since then I have been looking for clean copies of the other records. A few weeks back I stopped into 21st Century Music and lo and behold... stone mint copies. Not long before that @CollectorScum dug up a copy of the 7-inch "Goon River," b/w Weirdo The Wolf." Happy Halloween #primitivesoundsystem #vinylrules #vinyljunkie #7inches #45s #OpenDrumsOnly #RareRecords #recordcollection #recordcollector #Halloween #FrankieSteinAndHisGhouls #GhoulMusic #MonsterSoundsAndDanceMusic #PowerRecords #HalloweenMusic #SpookyGrooves https://www.instagram.com/p/CVo6mbsso67/?utm_medium=tumblr

A few years back I went to Double Decker Records with @collectorscum I picked up a few local Pennsylvania records including an AMAZING version of "Caravan." The artist was Joe Nardone's Allstars. In 2019 a label called Gallery of Sound released a 7-inch from the Allstars with a delicious tribute to "Pizza." @amleenj and I recently went on a short "vacation" in the Hawley, PA area where we were a short drive from two shops named Gallery of Sound, one in Wilkes Barre and the other in Dickson. I made the hike to the Wilkes Barre shop and found some real gems. When I as purchasing my finds I mentioned the two Allstars 7-inches and was pleasantly surprised to find out that Mr. Nardone owned the shops. Not only that, they are gearing up to do a couple of local shows. The biggest surprise in the small stack of 7-inches was from local Metal guitarist Sterling Cooke. The Metal, Jazz, Soul  and Funk drenched version of The Beatles "Tomorrow Never Knows" (E-S-P Records) has easily jumped to the top of my favorite cover versions. And yes, there is a break. Some of the other unexpected finds were a pair of Modern Soul tracks that I was familiar with, Leggs - "Believe In Yourself (Jeree Records), Family Connection "This Time" (Jabali) and I had no idea the Soul Survivors funky "Mama Soul" was on 7-inch. There was also a novelty record that includes the best Punk version of "Surfin' Bird" by The Psychotic Petunias. If all works out you will soon be hearing these at a regular gig at @lowfidelitybar in Jersey City Heights #primitivesoundsystem #vinylrules #vinyljunkie #7inches #45s #OpenDrumsOnly #RareRecords #recordcollection #recordcollector @galleryofsound #GalleryOfSound #JoeNardonesAllstars #SterlingCooke #TomorrowNeverKnows #Leggs #BelieveInYourself #FamilyConnection #ThisTime #SoulSurvivors #MamaSoul #PsychoticPetunias #TheMonclairs #HappyFeetTime #lowfidelitybar @lowfidelitybar https://www.instagram.com/p/CSlONa_sOOf/?utm_medium=tumblr

For this First Thursday, June 7 at D.C.’s Tavern in Hoboken New Jersey, I will be bringing many of the records that I have purchased from Stan’s Square Records over the years or was given to me by Stan. As I have said before, I was a regular but as I look back I should have been far more regular. I only purchased 7-inches during the recent digs. Those three days, at the shop, also told me that as much as I loved sitting with Stan, listening to his stories, and shooting the shit I should have set aside some time for digging. I shouldn’t have been as amazed as I was, but what was in, under, behind, and between the bins, was impressive. There were records every where. In the last two hours of Sunday’s dig I asked Justin and Jeff, “Where haven’t you seen people spend much time?” (Keep in mind every record was moved around by Justin and Jeff so Justin could do his thing and sort the entire store.) They said, “In front of the counter.” So dig I did, and walked away with another 25 records. I even witnessed a very old, very dedicated digger, pass out, bleed from his mouth and when rested… he immediately began flipping records! It was scary, crazy and all I could think was, yeah, I’d probably do the same thing. Come check out my finds, have a drink, and spend a little time with Stan. #stanssquarerecords #catamountrecords #stankrause #catamount #jerseycity #doowop #soul #randb #hiphop #funk #vinyl #vinylrules @primitivesoundsystem #primitivesoundsystem #vinyljunkie #vinyl45s #recordcollection #recordcollection @collectorscum @fleamarketfunk @pat_byrne @dcstavern #dcstavern #FirstThursdays #AllVinylAllTheTime #AllVinylAsAlways

This First Thursday, December 5th, at D.C.’s Tavern in Hoboken, NJ from 9PM to 1AM I will be sharing joyful sounds from my overflowing boxes, stuffed with new records, and a handful of seasonal favorites. I never thought I’d see an OG copy, let alone, own one, but via the man with the best juju in the game, @CollectorScum, I now do. Soul Excitement was out of Newark, New Jersey where some members attended Arts High. Arts High shared a space with Newark School of Fine Arts, one of the schools I attended after high school. PLUS! This is one of the toughest grooves ever put to record despite it’s incredibly playful intro. All of these things combined are the reason I have been hopelessly obsessed with this record and never satisfied with the fact that I would likely never find one. In 2006, Kay-Dee Records made me extremely happy when they re-issued it. It has been a regular spin since. The uniqueness of the track is evident from its first notes. These kids were on a trip and they were more than happy to take us a long for the ride. “Stay Together,” is a “message” song similar to the concepts of Sly and the Family Stone, Gene McDaniels, etc. Also, the damn thing is stone mint so it plays clean, and LOUD! I wasn’t kidding when I said my boxes are overstuffed with new toys. Brian Daly and his elves pour liquids into to cups… and that shit will get you high! So come on by, enjoy the sounds, the booze (or whatever your poison is) and maybe an interesting conversation. See you there…HO HO HO-boken! #primitivesoundsystem #vinylrules #vinyljunkie #vinyl45s #RareRecords #recordcollection #recordcollector @dcstavern #dcstavern @dalespix @demondrums @tfool #FirstThursday #FirstThursdays #Funk #Soul #HardRock #Punk #Instrumentals #ChristmasMusic #ChristmasRecords #SoulExcitement #PinkDolphinRecords #NewarkNJ #SoulExcitementStayTogether #ArtsHighNewark @kaydeerecords #kaydeerecords https://www.instagram.com/p/B5ojWDapwbe/?igshid=16jzgrui94cfc

I have a bit of a backlog of recent finds that I haven’t posted. First off, what is easily one of the most amazing 45 cases I have ever seen. Thanks @holdfastasburypark ! Also, Patti Smith “Piss Factory,” & Weldon Irvine - Spirit Man. Yesterday on a trip to the terminal moraine I picked up two wants, a like new metal 45 case and a promo copy of The Parliaments 1959 debut, “Party Boys,” plus a couple other great 7’s from @infinityrecordsltd At @station1booksvinyl I was ecstatic to see they still had one of the two Fela Nigerian pressings they posted. Samuel Moore & The Chi’s TNTs - “Im So Jealous,” great two-sider comes from @dustygroove. A numbered Richard Hell “Blank Generation,” and a test pressing of the 13th anniversary press of the Nihilistic’s 7-inch came from @revillagrooves An OG copy of Slayer - “Hell Awaits,” with the chain label and translucent vinyl from @tuneshoboken The Beginning, private press LP, came from a garage sale. I learned about the amazing Golden Hands record from @collectorscum who had the OG cassette. #primitivesoundsystem #vinylrules #vinyljunkie #vinyl45s #RareRecords #recordcollection #recordcollector https://www.instagram.com/p/B2K8nnyJUN8/?igshid=1p1er9s80gfvt
