Tell Me Something
Relationships: Damian Wayne/Colin WIlkes, Damian Wayne & Colin Wilkes, Jonathan Samuel Kent & Damian Wayne
Characters: Damian Wayne, Jonathan Kent, Colin Wilkes (mentioned)
Summary:
“You don’t have to tell me if— “
“No, it’s okay. I never really talked about him with you, did I, huh?”
There’ was hesitance in his voice, Jon noted. He’s rarely seen Damian like this. It was a far shift from the boy with a well-built wall—the Damian before him was foreign but not unwelcomed. The younger brunt wanted to speak but said nothing in hopes that the Gothamite would go on his own. To his own surprise, he did.
To which Jon learns more about "Wilkes".
[ao3]
Jon doesn’t know why his dad insisted on going to Uncle Bruce’s place. He thought it would be weird, considering that he and Damian aren’t always on the best of terms. He looked up to his dad to question but was met with a smile that he couldn’t help but give in to. Why was his dad like this to begin with? He assumed it was because he and Uncle Bruce were always in best terms so perhaps they wanted their sons to be in the same way? If so, he could understand completely.
Sure, Damian was a pain in the neck, but he was also an interesting guy. Despite being only three years older than him, he talked and acted like an adult. Jon would argue that he was basically an old man in a child’s body, but then again, they had common interests that would say otherwise. Other than that, he was also a pet hoarder (“I do it because where else would they go if we didn’t save them?”) and a Bat Burger toy fanatic (“I must collect them all, Kent. I swear—If I don’t get that Discowing toy, I’m going to burn that establishment to the ground.”).
Now here he was sitting in the Bat Cave on the floor, not sure how to feel at this very moment. He had his back laid against the side of Bat Cow, who had been currently consuming grass. Jon looked up at Damian, already preoccupied with petting Alfred the Cat. The younger brunet felt himself cringe at the thought of the cat attacking him like it had before. He wasn’t sure if he could ever look at any cat the same ever again. His blue eyes darted at the Great Dane that rested by the foot of Damian’s chair. Yeah, he was also sure he couldn’t really look at all dogs the same either. (Even if he did have Krypto, but that’s beside the point.)
“Wait, why even bother having me here during the weekend?”
“Because Father wouldn’t let me say no.”
“See, that sounds more like you.”
“What is that supposed mean?”
“Oh nothing.”
Damian pinched the bridge of his nose. Jon could tell he wasn’t in the mood, but it was still fun to annoy him when he could. The younger boy enjoyed messing with the youngest bat, even if it meant potential harm onto himself. He can tell you for sure that he has the scars from previous fights to prove his point. Anyways, he wanted nothing more for the week end than to patrol the city of Gotham once more as it was like a break away from Metropolis. As much as he loved his home, new sights were always welcomed. Even when Jon had already bothered the older boy several times about leaving the cave already, the elder kept arguing it was too early.
“It’s always so dark and brooding here, it’s really hard to tell what time it is.”
“Don’t you know when to shut up?”
“Aren’t you like twelve?”
“I’m thirteen and I’m older than you!”
“That’s beside the point.”
Jon puffed his cheeks, crossing his arms. Wasn’t there anything to do for the time being? If he had any homework to begin with, he would’ve brought it so that was out. And it wasn’t like Damian was going to let him touch anything so every other option was tossed out. He wasn’t sure entirely what time they would go. Normally Jon would go as soon as the sun was down but he knew Damian and his father had their own time. Adapting wasn’t hard, but waiting for that time felt a lot to him.
The younger brunet stroked his chin, trying to think of ways to pass the time. Maybe he could start a conversation. But chances of where it would go would be another fight breaking out, immediately being shot down, or an awkward one sided conversation. Geez, did Damian and him ever have a normal conversation? Jon shrugged to himself, pulling himself to a sitting position. He decided he was going to ask the lifelong question that has occupied his mind.
“Hey, Damian.”
“Yes, Kent?”
“I’ve always wondered this, but who is… Who is ‘Wilkes’?”
Jon almost flinched seeing the older boy visibly stiffen. Damian lifted his head to look at the boy on the floor, brows furrowed in thought. He could tell that the young bat was debating something. It sent chills down the younger boy’s spine seeing his reaction. The atmosphere felt colder than it already was. He wasn’t sure what to do now that he had the elder’s attention. Should he had mentioned him to begin with or— Jon shook his head.
“Wilkes is… Wilkes is someone that means a lot to me. He’s a very important person that I would stop at nothing to… to protect. He was—is one of the people I consider the closest to. Unfortunately, he went missing about two years before we met. I—We, Grayson and I, reported him missing and the entirety of Gotham was on the search. I had spent all my time searching every alley way, city, state, country, wherever just to find him but I could never find him. Eventually, the GCPD gave up and so did Grayson. I was left on my own. I would never give up until I knew for sure he was dead or alive.
“About 6 months after his two-year mark, I went to visit his orphanage to find him malnourished and curled up near the door step. Immediately, I called for an ambulance and knocked on the door rapidly, hoping on of the Sisters would hear. Fortunately, Sister Agnes answered and we were able to keep C—Wilkes warm until the ambulance had arrived. He was hospitalized for about 2 months before he was released. Since then, I’ve kept him closer to me since.
“I did ask him what had happened to him, but he had no recollection of the two years he had been gone. All he’s ever told me was that he went out one day and everything went black. It scared me—us that he still thought he was 11, not 13. Like those two years were wiped from his memory. He did remember one thing—a word… Limbo.
“Since then, I vowed to protect Wilkes, even with my life.”
Jon felt a chill go down his spine. To think that “Wilkes” had gone through so much in such a short span. Whether 2 years seemed like anything, it was shocking to learn so much about him.
He watched Damian set down Alfred before dusting himself off of any cat hair that had stuck on his suit and his gauntlets, clenching his hands into fists. Sighing, the bird lifted head to meet the younger brunet’s blue eyes before shifting his gaze to his motorcycle.
“C’mon, Kent. It’s time.”

“Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame, With conquering limbs astride from land to land; Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame. ‘Keep ancient lands, your storied pomp!’ cries she With silent lips. ‘Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Toobin rips into Trump’s firing of Comey: ‘A grotesque abuse of power’
Jeffrey Toobin (Screengrab: CNN)
Calling it “a dark day in American political history,” CNN legal analyst Jeffrey Toobin tore into President Trump’s decision to fire FBI Director James Comey in the middle of the bureau’s open investigation into the Trump campaign’s ties with Russia.
“It’s a grotesque abuse of power by the president of the United States,” Toobin said on “The Situation Room” shortly after the news of Comey’s firing broke Tuesday evening. “This is the kind of thing that goes on in non-democracies, that when there is an investigation that reaches near the president of the United States, or the leader of a non-democracy, they fire the people who are in charge of the investigation.”
Earlier this year, Comey testified before Congress that the FBI was investigating interactions between members of the Trump campaign and Moscow. On Monday, former acting Attorney General Sally Yates testified before a Senate subcommittee probing Russia’s interference in the 2016 election that she warned the Trump administration in January that National Security Adviser Michael Flynn was vulnerable to blackmail by Russia. Yates was fired in late January after refusing to comply with the president’s travel ban.
For Toobin, a former federal prosecutor, the timing of Comey’s firing was suspect.
https://twitter.com/colinjones/status/862072785924960257/
“This is a political act when [the Trump campaign] is under investigation, when his White House counsel was described yesterday as being told that his national security adviser was subject to blackmail by the Russians, and they fired the attorney general a few days later,” he said. “Now they fired the FBI director. I mean, what kind of country is this?”
Toobin compared Comey’s firing to the so-called “Saturday Night Massacre” on Oct. 20, 1973, when President Richard Nixon fired Archibald Cox, who was leading the investigation into the Watergate scandal.
That firing, Toobin pointed out, “led indirectly but certainly to the resignation of President Nixon.”
“This is not normal,” Toobin continued. “This is not politics as usual. This is something that is completely outside how American law is supposed to work.”
Andrew McCabe, who had been appointed as the FBI’s deputy director by Comey in January 2016, was named acting director Tuesday. Toobin predicted that the Trump administration will soon install “a stooge who will shut down this investigation.”
“Now Donald Trump will put in maybe Chris Christie,” Toobin said, “someone who will do his bidding.”

Video shows Trump hugging the American flag—again
President Donald Trump on Tuesday hugged the American flag after a speech bashing illegal immigration, and the irony of the gesture is entirely exhausting.
Enjoy. pic.twitter.com/JsSnVQrsqo
— Colin Jones (@colinjones) June 19, 2018
People on Twitter bashed Trump’s flag hug as hypocritical and embarrassing.

Today, Trump has said illegal immigrants 'infest our country'. He tries to justify ripping children from their families & throwing them in cages. Then he hugs an American flag while walking off stage at an event. I can't think of a more unAmerican asshole ever.

Trump hugging the flag doesn’t mean he loves America. It shows he has no boundaries nor any respect for the office he holds.

This wasn’t the first—and unfortunately, likely isn’t the last—time the president has physically embraced the country’s most sacred symbol.
He also hugged flags on the campaign trail in 2016. At a rally in Florida, the flag-hugging came after supports began to chant “build the wall.”

In his speech to the National Federation of Independent Business on Tuesday, Trump referenced the thousands of immigrant children who have been separated from their parents at the U.S.-Mexico border due to his administration’s zero tolerance” policy.
“We’re doing well as a country,” he concluded before ambushing the flag.

An in-depth history of the world's best bromance
Near, far, wherever they are, we believe that Barack Obama and Joe Biden's bromance does go on.
With inauguration day only hours away, it's time to look back on the laughter, the tears and the fierce brotherly love that made the Obama and Biden friendship the beloved First Bromance of America that it's been over these past eight years.
SEE ALSO: 10 inspiring moments from Barack Obama's presidency in GIFs
From ice-cream socials and grand birthday gestures to supportive speeches and financial assistance, ever since Barack and Joe won the 2008 election, they've had each other's backs, through thick and thin.
So before the boys try out the whole long-distance thing, let us reflect on some of the maaaaany times they raised the bar for #FriendshipGoals, in no particular order.
Casual hangouts
Even though they're two of the most important people on earth, Barack and Joe don't need to be surrounded by impressive architecture, fancy cuisine or famous friends to have a good time. Whether they're grabbing some ice cream, a few burgers or kicking it in the stands of a game, like true BFFs, they chill whenever and whenever.

The BroHugs
Obama and Biden made sure to hug it out at every available opportunity. Though they've embraced every opportunity to embrace they could find, over the past eight years, one of the most memorable hugs came during a moment the two shared on stage after being re-elected for a second term in 2012.

That time they made a workout video together
After the dynamic duo was challenged by Michelle Obama to show us how they move, in support of FLOTUS's "Let's Move" campaign, BFFs Barack and Joe came together to do some jogging around the White House, a little stretching, and a lot of rehydrating, of course.
When Joe made sure Barack was in his first selfie
Normally, a first selfie is an iconic moment for you—and you alone. But when it came time for Joe Biden to snap his first selfie, he knew it'd be nothing without his best friend by his side. The legendary Instagram post (captioned: "Found a friend to join my first selfie on Instagram. Thanks for following and stay tuned. –VP") features the bros smiling ear-to-ear in the back of a presidential motorcade.
We wish we could be this cool.

In times of tragedy
When Joe Biden's eldest son, former Delaware Attorney General Beau Biden, passed away in May of 2015, Barack made sure he was right by our VP's side every step of the way.
After the news broke, Obama released a touching statement explaining, "Like his dad, Beau was a good, big-hearted, devoutly Catholic and deeply faithful man, who made a difference in the lives of all he touched—and he lives on in their hearts."
He later gave a moving eulogy at Beau's funeral.
"We are here to grieve with you, but more importantly we are here because we love you," Obama addressed the Biden family before praising Beau's character. "Anyone can make a name for themselves in this reality TV age, but to make that name mean something, to have it associated with dignity and integrity—that is rare," he said.
Before concluding his speech, Obama addressed his dear friend, reassuring him, "Joe, you are my brother."

In an interview with CNN that aired in January 2016, Biden reflected on Obama's deeply supportive actions during the difficult time, and shared that POTUS offered him and his family financial help and heartfelt advice during his son's illness.
After Biden told Obama he was thinking of selling his family's Wilmington, Delaware home in order to care for Beau's family, Obama immediately took action. According to the VP, Obama "got up and he said, 'Don't sell that house. Promise me you won't sell the house.'"
Biden told CNN's Gloria Borger, Obama said, "I'll give you the money. Whatever you need, I'll give you the money. Don't, Joe—promise me. Promise me."

Post-Trump, but still tight
On Nov. 9, President Obama stood in the Rose Garden to deliver a statement on the election results following Hillary Clinton's loss. At a time when Americans were feeling a range of emotions, Obama and Biden did their best to keep things hopeful and lighthearted.
"I've lost elections before," Obama admitted before joking, "Joe hasn't, but you know."
Biden then graced Obama with one of his epic side hugs and recalled his own ill-fated presidential campaign in 2008, reminding his pal: "You beat me badly."
The presents
For President Obama's 55th birthday, Biden tweeted a photo of friendship bracelets made for the duo.
Are. You. Kidding. Me.
The gesture was likely a throwback to a June BuzzFeed video, "5 Things that Are Harder than Registering to Vote," in which President Obama makes his very own "Barack" and "Joe" bracelets, but whatever the inspiration was, friendship bracelets are no joke.
Happy 55th, Barack! A brother to me, a best friend forever. pic.twitter.com/uNsxouTKOO

In case that gift wasn't heartfelt enough, Biden continued to woo Obama as his special day went on, bringing him delicious looking birthday cupcakes... WITH CANDLES.

The meme of all memes
When America needed it most, Barack and Joe's friendship was there.
Following Donald Trump's election, the bromance inspired the brilliant people of the internet to create a coping meme, which consisted of charming photographs of POTUS and VP accompanied by Biden's fictional and menacing intentions of ways to mess with Trump.

The "Biden plotting against Trump" memes will live in glorious infamy and forever remind us of the intimate and humorous relationship Barack and Biden shared in the White House.
Barack's goodbyes
On Jan. 10, President Obama delivered his emotional farewell address to the American people.
Towards the end of the speech, he turned to Vice President Joe Biden, whom he of course called a "brother."
"To Joe Biden, the scrappy kid from Scranton who became Delaware’s favorite son," Obama said. "You were the first choice I made as a nominee, and the best. Not just because you have been a great vice president, but because in the bargain, I gained a brother."
*blinks back tears*
"We love you and Jill like family, and your friendship has been one of the great joys of our life," Obama concluded before he and Joe exchanged a legendary finger guns exchange.
Joe's big surprise
After watching the video below—which documents the ultimate display of bromantic affection—you'll be hard pressed not to be weepy.
On Jan. 12 President Obama surprised Biden with the Presidential Medal of Freedom, and Americans watched through blurry eyes as the VP broke down in tears.
Biden and Obama both took the mic to praise one another and share some insight on their friendship.
One final meme
As Obama praised Biden's accomplishments and character before presenting him with the Medal of Freedom, he straight up acknowledged the bromance.
"This also gives the internet one last chance to talk about our bromance." pic.twitter.com/aQnsUyH293
— Mashable GIF (@mashablegif) January 12, 2017
Not only did the internet talk about their bromance once again, but of course, made one final meme of the two pals before they left the White House.
To help us survive inauguration week, the touching moment when Obama presented Biden with the Presidential Medal of Freedom was transformed into a joke sesh.
