Exploring the Growing Coffee Trading Market in Australia- Trends and Opportunities
Australia has long been known for its vibrant coffee culture. From bustling cafes to artisanal roasters, the country has cultivated a deep passion for coffee. While much of the spotlight has traditionally been on the consumption side, the coffee trading market in Australia is becoming a significant area of growth. As the world experiences shifting dynamics in coffee production and demand, Australia is carving out a niche as both a consumer and player in the global coffee trading market. In this blog post, we will explore the trends shaping the coffee trading market in Australia, examine the opportunities it presents, and highlight the challenges the industry faces.
Australia’s Coffee Culture: A Foundation for Trade
Australia’s affinity for coffee is well-documented. Since the post-World War II migration waves, when Italian and Greek immigrants introduced espresso machines to the country, Australians have developed an unyielding devotion to quality coffee. This cultural foundation laid the groundwork for an emerging coffee trading market, as consumers demand high-quality beans sourced from diverse regions across the globe.
The popularity of specialty coffee has transformed the way Australians consume coffee. They no longer seek just a caffeine hit; instead, they want to know the story behind their cup—the origins of the beans, the farm where they were grown, and the sustainability practices involved. This growing consumer awareness has encouraged coffee traders and roasters to source premium, ethically produced beans, fueling the demand for diverse and specialty coffee.
Tumblr media
Trends Shaping the Australian Coffee Trading Market
1. Rise of Specialty Coffee Trading
One of the most significant trends driving the coffee trading market in Australia is the rise of specialty coffee. Specialty coffee refers to beans that score 80 points or more on the Specialty Coffee Association (SCA) scale, indicating high quality in terms of flavor, aroma, and production processes. The specialty coffee market has been growing steadily, with many traders now focusing on sourcing beans that meet these premium standards.
Coffee traders in Australia have begun forging relationships with smallholder farms and cooperatives in countries like Ethiopia, Colombia, and Kenya. Direct trade models are becoming more prevalent, allowing traders to work closely with farmers to ensure higher-quality beans and better pricing for growers. This trend is also tied to increasing consumer demand for transparency and sustainability in coffee sourcing.
2. Sustainability and Ethical Sourcing
Tumblr media
Sustainability is now a major consideration for Australian coffee traders. With growing awareness of climate change and its impact on coffee-growing regions, there is an increased focus on sourcing beans from farms that use sustainable practices. This includes everything from water conservation and organic farming methods to ensuring fair labor conditions for farm workers.
Ethical sourcing practices, such as Fair Trade certifications and direct trade relationships, are also becoming more common. Australian consumers are willing to pay a premium for coffee that is sourced responsibly, and traders are responding by prioritizing partnerships with coffee producers who adhere to ethical and sustainable practices.
3. Technological Advancements in Coffee Trading
Technology is playing an increasingly important role in the coffee trading market. Digital platforms and marketplaces have emerged, allowing traders to connect with farmers and buyers more easily. These platforms provide greater transparency in the supply chain, enabling traders to access real-time information on pricing, availability, and quality of beans.
Blockchain technology is also making waves in coffee trading. It enables the tracking of coffee beans from farm to cup, ensuring traceability and authenticity. This is particularly important for specialty coffee traders who need to prove the origins and quality of their beans. In addition, blockchain can help ensure fair pricing and reduce inefficiencies in the supply chain.
4. Growing Interest in Coffee Futures Trading
While Australia is traditionally more involved in physical coffee trading, there is a growing interest in coffee futures trading as well. Coffee futures are contracts that allow traders to buy or sell coffee at a set price on a future date. This type of trading is common in global commodity markets, particularly in New York and London, but Australian traders are starting to explore this avenue to hedge against market fluctuations.
Coffee futures provide traders with a tool to mitigate risks, especially as the price of coffee can be highly volatile due to factors such as climate change, geopolitical events, and global supply and demand dynamics. As Australia becomes more integrated into the global coffee market, futures trading could offer an opportunity to strengthen its position.
Opportunities in the Australian Coffee Trading Market
The evolving coffee trading market in Australia offers several exciting opportunities for both local and international players. Here are some key areas to watch:
1. Expanding Specialty Coffee Market
Australia’s specialty coffee scene is thriving, and the demand for high-quality beans is only expected to grow. This presents a significant opportunity for coffee traders to focus on sourcing and importing beans from regions known for their specialty coffee production. By building strong relationships with coffee growers and cooperatives, traders can secure exclusive access to some of the best beans in the world.
Additionally, the growing consumer demand for unique and diverse flavors creates opportunities for traders to introduce lesser-known coffee origins to the Australian market. Traders who can differentiate their offerings by providing rare or exotic beans stand to benefit from a market that values exclusivity and quality.
2. Direct Trade Models
Direct trade has gained popularity in Australia as a way to ensure better quality and transparency in the coffee supply chain. By cutting out intermediaries, coffee traders can establish direct relationships with farmers and cooperatives, allowing them to negotiate better pricing for both parties and ensure higher-quality beans. This model benefits both the trader and the grower, creating a win-win scenario.
In a direct trade model, traders can also support farmers in improving their growing practices, investing in infrastructure, and obtaining certifications that meet the increasing consumer demand for ethical and sustainable coffee. This mutually beneficial relationship strengthens the overall supply chain and enhances the reputation of traders committed to responsible sourcing.
3. Investment in Sustainable and Organic Coffee
With the focus on sustainability and ethical sourcing growing, there are opportunities for coffee traders to specialize in sustainable and organic coffee. Consumers are increasingly looking for certifications like Fair Trade, Rainforest Alliance, and USDA Organic, which can boost the appeal of beans sourced under these programs.
Traders who invest in building relationships with coffee farms that prioritize environmental sustainability and social responsibility are likely to find a receptive market in Australia. Promoting organic, shade-grown, or bird-friendly coffee options can differentiate traders from competitors while also aligning with the values of environmentally conscious consumers.
4. Increased Role of Digital Platforms
Digital platforms and coffee trading marketplaces are revolutionizing the way traders do business. By using these platforms, traders can streamline the process of sourcing and selling coffee beans, gaining access to a broader network of buyers and sellers. These platforms also provide greater transparency in pricing and quality, reducing the risks associated with coffee trading.
Tumblr media
Coffee traders in Australia who adopt these digital tools can benefit from increased efficiency and reach, opening up new business opportunities both locally and globally. Moreover, leveraging data and analytics from these platforms can help traders make more informed decisions about sourcing, pricing, and inventory management.
5. Exploring the Growing Asian Coffee Market
Australia’s proximity to Asia presents a unique opportunity for coffee traders to tap into the rapidly growing coffee markets in countries like China, South Korea, and Japan. These markets have seen a surge in coffee consumption, particularly in urban areas, creating new opportunities for Australian coffee traders to export high-quality beans to these regions.
The increasing interest in specialty coffee in Asia further boosts the potential for Australian traders to establish themselves as key suppliers to this market. Building partnerships with Asian distributors and roasters could open the door to a growing consumer base that is eager to explore premium coffee options.
Challenges in the Australian Coffee Trading Market
While there are numerous opportunities, the Australian coffee trading market is not without its challenges. Traders need to be mindful of these potential obstacles to successfully navigate the industry.
1. Price Volatility
Coffee is a commodity that is subject to price fluctuations due to various factors such as weather conditions, political instability in coffee-growing regions, and global demand shifts. For traders, managing this price volatility can be challenging, especially when operating on tight margins. Futures trading offers one way to mitigate some of this risk, but it requires a deep understanding of the market.
2. Supply Chain Disruptions
The global coffee supply chain is complex, involving multiple players from farmers to exporters, traders, roasters, and retailers. Any disruptions in this chain, whether due to natural disasters, political instability, or logistical issues, can affect the availability and pricing of coffee beans. Traders need to be prepared to handle these disruptions and have contingency plans in place.
3. Climate Change
Climate change poses a significant threat to the coffee industry, as many coffee-growing regions are experiencing shifting weather patterns that affect crop yields and quality. For traders, this means dealing with potential supply shortages and increased competition for high-quality beans. Investing in long-term relationships with farmers and supporting sustainable farming practices can help mitigate the risks posed by climate change.
Conclusion
The coffee trading market in Australia is an exciting space, driven by trends such as the rise of specialty coffee, sustainability, and technological advancements. For traders, the key to success lies in understanding consumer preferences, building strong relationships with coffee producers, and staying ahead of the curve when it comes to sustainability and innovation.
With the right strategies, traders can capitalize on the growing demand for premium, ethically sourced coffee, both in Australia and beyond. The opportunities are vast, and for those willing to invest in quality, transparency, and sustainability, the future of coffee trading in Australia looks promising.

What’s the Best Brand for Ethiopian Green Arabica Coffee Beans? 6 Tips on How to Choose
Tumblr media
The origin of the beans is where the journey of coffee begins, from bean to cup. Ethiopian green Arabica coffee beans are a treasure for those who genuinely value the craft. They are a popular option for both roasters and coffee lovers due to their distinctive qualities, rich history, and distinctive flavors. But how do you pick the greatest brand when there are so many available? In order to make sure that your decision is in line with your values and personal preferences, this guide will give you six crucial tips for choosing the best Ethiopian green Arabica coffee beans.
The Origin of Ethiopian Coffee: A Rich Heritage
Ethiopia is the birthplace of coffee, having been the source of the beverage for centuries. It's common knowledge that Kaldi, a goat herder, discovered the stimulating properties of coffee beans. Beyond the legends, Ethiopia is home to a wide variety of coffee cultivars that date back many generations. Because of the nation's distinct climate, rich soil, and age-old farming practices, coffee beans have an unmatched complexity and depth of flavor.
Ethiopia is the center of coffee culture as well as the country where coffee originated. Every region, from the forests of Kaffa to the highlands of Yirgacheffe, produces beans that are unique and capture the essence of their terroir. Coffee enthusiasts must comprehend these beans' origins in order to fully appreciate the range of their taste.
Why Ethiopian Green Arabica Coffee Beans?
What, then, makes Ethiopian Arabica green coffee beans unique? These beans are highly valued primarily for their vibrant acidity, floral overtones, and fruity undertones. Ethiopian coffee has an unmatched range of flavors, with each region providing a distinctive flavor profile. There's an Ethiopian coffee bean to please every palate, whether you prefer the complex, wine-like flavor of Harrar or the zesty notes of Sidamo beans.
When it comes to coffee, origin is everything. The environment in which coffee beans are grown—including the altitude, soil type, and climate—has a profound impact on their flavor profile. Ethiopian coffee beans, for instance, are known for their complex and vibrant flavors, which are a direct result of the country’s unique growing conditions. Sourcing coffee beans directly from Ethiopia ensures that you’re getting a product that is true to its roots, with all the characteristics that make Ethiopian coffee so beloved. For those who value authenticity and tradition, Ethiopian green Arabica coffee beans are a must-try.
1. Understand the Importance of Origin
Why Origin Matters
In the case of coffee, origin is crucial. The altitude, type of soil, and climate of the growing region all have a significant effect on the flavor profile of coffee beans. For example, Ethiopian coffee beans are prized for their vibrant and nuanced flavors, which are a direct result of the special growing circumstances in the nation. Purchasing coffee beans straight from Ethiopia guarantees that the final product will be authentic and possess all the qualities that make Ethiopian coffee so well-liked.
Abyssinia Coffee’s Commitment to Authenticity
We at Abyssinia Coffee recognize the significance of origin. Because of this, we have established close ties with Ethiopian farmers, guaranteeing that the greatest bean growers in the area provide our beans. Eliminating the intermediary allows us to provide our clients with a product that is not only genuine but also of the greatest caliber. You are selecting a brand that honors the history and customs of Ethiopian coffee when you choose Abyssinia Coffee because of our dedication to authenticity.
2. The Role of Sustainability in Coffee Production
Sustainability and Ethical Sourcing
Sustainability is more crucial than ever in today's world. It is our duty as consumers to select goods that are healthy for the environment in addition to ourselves. This entails choosing coffee beans that are sourced sustainably and ethically. When selecting your coffee, fair trade standards, ecologically friendly farming techniques, and support for your community are all important considerations.
In coffee production, sustainability encompasses more than environmental preservation; it also involves making sure that those who cultivate and harvest the coffee receive just treatment and a living wage. You are endorsing a system that prioritizes both people and the environment when you choose sustainable coffee.
Abyssinia Coffee’s Fair Trade Practices
We at Abyssinia Coffee are dedicated to ethical sourcing and sustainability. We have close collaborations with Ethiopian farmers who place a high value on gender parity, fair wages, and ecologically responsible farming methods. We are able to provide our consumers with a product that is not only delicious but also consistent with our fairness and sustainability values by supporting these growers. A better future for coffee farmers and their communities is supported when you choose Abyssinia Coffee.
3. Quality Control and Freshness
What to Look for in Quality Beans
Quality is crucial when choosing Ethiopian green Arabica coffee beans. But how can one assess the beans' quality? The way the beans look is among the first things to check. Superior green coffee beans ought to exhibit homogeneity in dimensions and hue, a sleek exterior, and no indications of imperfections. The freshness of the beans can also be determined by their aroma; fresh beans should smell lively and vibrant.
The processing method employed is a crucial consideration as well. The traditional dry (or natural) method of processing Ethiopian coffee beans is often used to bring out the fruity and floral notes in the beans. Knowing the processing method will help you select coffee beans that suit your taste preferences and will also provide you with insight into the coffee's flavor profile.
Abyssinia Coffee’s Quality Assurance
We at Abyssinia Coffee are serious about quality. To guarantee that only the finest beans reach our customers, we put our beans through stringent quality control procedures. To maintain their freshness and flavor, the beans undergo meticulous sorting and processing as soon as they are harvested. In order to preserve the quality of our beans, we also make sure they are transported and stored in the best possible ways. You can be sure that the product you choose from Abyssinia Coffee satisfies the highest standards of quality.
4. The Benefits of Roasted and Ground Coffee Beans
Why Choose Roasted Over Green Beans?
Although many people who enjoy roasting their own coffee prefer to use green beans, there are several advantages to using ground and roasted coffee beans. For coffee enthusiasts with hectic schedules, roasted beans offer convenience as they are readily usable. Furthermore, roasting maximizes the flavor potential of the beans, giving you the opportunity to savor the deep, nuanced flavors that Ethiopian coffee is renowned for.
For those who prefer fresh coffee without the hassle of roasting, roasted coffee beans are a more sensible choice because they also have a longer shelf life than green beans. Roasted coffee beans are the ideal combination of convenience and quality, whether you're a home barista or just enjoy a nice cup of coffee.
Abyssinia Coffee’s Roasted Beans
We at Abyssinia Coffee are pleased to provide a selection of ground and roasted coffee options that highlight the finest Ethiopian coffee. Our beans are expertly roasted to highlight their distinct flavor profiles, making for a rich and fulfilling cup of coffee. We offer a variety of roasts to suit your preference, whether it be light, medium, or dark. Explore our range of roasted beans to experience the flavor and convenience of Abyssinia Coffee.
5. Building a Relationship with Your Supplier
Why Relationships Matter in Coffee Supply
Developing a solid working relationship with your supplier is crucial when it comes to coffee sourcing. Along with providing you with premium beans, a reliable supplier will also be able to help and guide you as you embark on your coffee journey. To achieve the ideal cup of coffee, whether you're a home enthusiast or a professional roaster, having a reliable partner can make all the difference.
Transparency and trust are also guaranteed by a solid connection with your supplier. Your knowledge of the origins of your beans, their processing method, and their characteristics will have improved. You can choose the ideal beans for your requirements and make well-informed decisions thanks to this knowledge.

6. Price vs. Quality: Making the Right Choice
Balancing Cost and Quality
Finding the ideal balance between price and quality is crucial when selecting Ethiopian green Arabica coffee beans. Although it may be alluring to choose the least expensive option, cheap beans frequently result in a quality compromise. However, premium beans may cost more, but they are well worth the investment because they provide a better flavor profile.
Look at variables like origin, processing technique, and sustainability policies when assessing coffee bean costs. These factors affect the beans' overall quality and can assist you in deciding if the cost is reasonable. Recall that purchasing premium beans equates to purchasing a better cup of coffee.
Abyssinia Coffee’s Value Proposition
We at Abyssinia Coffee think that cost and quality shouldn't have to be sacrificed. Our prices for our beans are competitive, giving you the best deal without sacrificing quality. To find the best beans, we work closely with Ethiopian farmers, so you can be sure to receive a product that is both excellent and reasonably priced. Selecting Abyssinia Coffee means choosing a company that prioritizes customer satisfaction, sustainability, and quality.
Conclusion

When at work - Lando Norris x UniStudent! Reader Part 2
Plot: Lando has known you since you were born, literally childhood friends. You went to every karting weekend with him until he started to travel more. As childhood lovers who have been dating for 8 years what happens when the general public find out about you?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
You'd been taken home by an officer in his car. He'd attempted to calm you down offering to stop at a petrol forecourt and get you a snack to help you blood sugars come back up.
Apparently you looked ghostly pale.
After a Wispa chocolate bar and a Lucozade was brought for you, and you sat in the car just chatting they pulled out and went back onto driving you home.
Once you'd been dropped at the door of your place that you shared with Lando the officers asked you a final few questions. Just if you had good security systems, or someone to stay with you tonight so you weren't alone.
They also explained that you would no longer be safe working there, and even a transfer wouldn't be safe. They asked about your income and whether you'd be able to afford the loss.
Obviously you and Lando would have to talk to each other once he came back to the UK to see what you'd both do and if there was anyway Red Bull or McLaren would take you early as a work from home sort of offer until you graduated and could commit to the seasonal travel.
You shut the door after the officers left, making sure to lock it with the bolt. You sloppily chucked your keys into the dish that was on the cabinet in the entry way before hanging your coat up in the cupboard and kicking your shoes off.
You run straight up into the bedroom, the ensuite door was open and you trudged through staring at yourself in the mirror for a few seconds. Your mascara and eyeliner had run, and you resembled a Panda right now.
You jump into the shower, wanting to wash the days grot and smell of coffee beans and marzipan away. You make sure to wash of the makeup from your face before getting out the shower and wrapping a towel around your hair and body.
You start to go through your skincare routine, making sure to add your little yellow star pimple patch on at the end. You walk back down to the main room where you and Lando spent most of you time in the house.
You grabbed a large blanket from the hamper wrapping it around yourself before curling up on the sofa into yourself.
You sat there silently for a little while before the hot tears started to roll down your face.
You couldn't tell why you were getting so emotional over it. It was scary yes, but it was over now and the police had been very quick getting to the scene.
After 20 minutes of your own mind and a large nap, you woke around 2am. You felt awful knowing that you'd slept on the sofa and had missed dinner. You decided to make yourself a 'breakfast dinner' as you and Lando would sometimes call it depending on his sleep schedule.
You did some chores around the house, like the laundry from before Lando had gone to Australia and washed up the dishes you'd just used and changed the bed sheets. And finished off with some studying for some upcoming exams you had.
As the clock hit 5.30am you started to prepare yourself. You knew seeing Lando race would make you feel much better. You caught yourself up on positions using the F1 app to find out where Lando and Oscar would be starting. You made yourself a tea and got some of you favorite snacks before seating yourself up all comfy on the sofa.
Once you hear the 'It's lights out and away we go' all your worries seem to just melt. You keep your eyes on both the Papaya coloured cars. Only breaking away to message Lily, you had actually met her somehow before you met Oscar which was very strange but you hit it off immediately and would no stop text each other throughout races if you weren't together.
Lando ended up coming 6th, Oscar only a car between them in 8th. The Mclaren didn't have pace this year and you could really tell but both the boys were pushing it as hard as they could without breaking it and messing up their races.
And just like that, 2 days later, Lando was on his flight home. You'd prepared everything for him. Got food that you knew his trainer would approve of, but he would as well. You made sure that everything was perfect.
You drove to the airport in his car, you wanted to see him as soon as possible so picking him up seemed like the best option.
You got through security easily, Lando had phone ahead telling them to let you into the private part of the airport, not wanting to risk crowds around you again.
You waited for him, as he came through the door you couldn't help but run up to him, flinging your arms around him. He knew you well enough that he braced himself for your launching hug, being able to catch you and hold you up as you wrapped around him like a koala does to a tree.
"Baby i missed you so much" you sob, pushing your face into his hoodie covered neck as you cry into him. You hold him so tightly and he squeezes you back, whispering little things to you to get you to calm down.
You hear people walking around, you know its his team, taking his bags away so you didn't knock them over and just to help him in general.
"Okay baby, lets go home" he smiles and he keeps a hold of you sighing as you look at him with a pouty frown and a shake of you head.
"You don't want to go home? Then we cant cuddle on the sofa and have food" he smiles down at you. You let out a small huff before untangling your legs from around his waist before placing a dainty peck on his lips.
"Do you need help?" you politely ask the Mclaren worker, offering to take some of Lando's bags to which she thanks you shaking her head explaining that you didn't have to help.
"I parked the car not far. Airport security were very helpful!" you smiled taking his hand while dragging his suitcase in the other.
"Yeah I asked for them to come meet you. I didn't want a repeat of the other day" he frowns, and looks at you in the eyes. You knew what this meant, he'd want to talk about it the minute you got home.
The drive home was quiet but comfortable. He left a hand on your thigh as you concentrated on the driver back home.
"So, we should talk about why you felt in necessary to get a job" he says squeezing you leg lightly as he looks over at you.
"I- I didn't want to give the fans another reason to assume I'm leeching off of you. And i feel bad asking my mum and dad, like I'm supposed to be an independent adult ... I'm 22" you say sadly and you hear him sigh.
"Baby, 22 is still so so young and you shouldn't have all that pressure on yourself ... please" he begs.
"I've been talking to Zac and Christian about an opportunity i could do from home with them. Even Suzie reached out to me about F1 Academy" you explain, knowing you had options that didn't involve Lando and his finances.
"Baby, I know you don't want to be seen using me for my money, but holy shit you've got so much pressure on yourself right now. You don't need to add to it. I dont know how you did it for as long as you have been... how long did you work there?" he asks, having no clue how long you'd not told him you had a job for.
"About 3 months" you say, checking the wing mirrors before turning left down your road.
"3 MONTHS?" he asks in shock, you were nearly finished with university, surely you could have held out until graduation.
"Baby, you've only got like a month until you've finished all your exams and you'll join me!" he frowns, you pull up into the driveway with a sigh and a nod of acknowledgement.
"I know, i know! And I'm sorry i didn't ask for help and I'm sorry I didn't tell you I'd got a job" you say tears brimming your eyes before he pulls you into a hug over the gear stick.
"Oh, my sweet sweet girl. It's okay, I understand but please never ever feel like you cant ask for me to help you. That comes in the job description of boyfriend" he smiles at you, kissing your forehead making you melt at his touch.
This is what it felt like to be loved and cared for by Lando Norris.

Newly launched, the Farmhouse White Chocolate Low Fat Flavoured Milk (S$3.73 per 946ml pack) brings a delicious and dreamy taste of winter wonderland to the tropical Singapore. Taking a sip, one can detect a whiff of vanilla-like white chocolate, complemented by the freshness of milk from Australia. Sis also bought the Cafe Latte Low Fat Coffee Flavoured Milk that is flavoured with Arabica coffee beans. The milk is thick with a nice fragrant of coffee plus it is low sugar and low fat to boot.

Paired the milk with a wedge of the White Lotus Seed Paste Mooncake with Egg Yolk (美心蛋黄白莲蓉月饼) from Hong Kong MX Mooncakes (香港美心月饼). Still left with one mooncake to slowly savour and then I have to wait for another year to enjoy it again.

bottaszhou: Pierre what are you doing here???
“so you’re too hot for me, eh?” the words startled you, as you had thought to have been alone. you arrived to qualifying much earlier than the drivers, and thinking you’d have time alone, you figured you’d catch up on your socials having no idea Carlos would see the comment.
“word travels fast around here.” you set your phone down, watching him slide into the empty seat across from you in the garage. it’s just the two of you waiting for everyone to pile in for the meeting. a hot steaming cup of coffee beans fills the smell of the room.
“now that I’m single, I have much more free time to listen to the gossip.” he comments, a chuckle escaping his lips before he sips the hot contents.
you just shake your head. the man across from you was nothing more than a coworker, maybe even an occasional friend from time to time, but you never got close. it was your rule, getting close meant you began to care for the men you worked with, and as much as you did care for them, they couldn’t be your friends. their obligations were to listen to your demands for media presence and that was as far as the contract went.
“you should spend more time on the simulator. spend your lonely nights perfecting your game.” your low blow earned a nod in approval, raising his cup to give you that point.
the silence fills the room. nothing but the sound of him slurping on the hot contents as bodies begin to move into the room for the meeting, and soon enough everyone’s seated.
the silence that once was there, has been born into commotion and you just listen to the mixture of Italian, French, and English flying every which way. your ears and eyes focus on Carlos and Charles conversation, the two always laughing and chatting, you can see Carlos relax with his team. the drama of yesterday and today seem to fade in these walls.
“let’s get started, shall we? we’ve got lots to talk about with Baku on the clock.”
qualifying goes rather difficult for one of the Ferraris. the grimace on your face is noticeable once Carlos steps out the car. he flashes a thumbs up to your phone camera for instagram and you quickly post it before shoving the device in your pocket, “we’ll get ‘em tomorrow, sainz. vamos.” you push him in the direction of the media pen and he follows.
“let’s just hope we can. I don’t have much faith left.” he exchanges his helmet for a cap from another intern, before entering the media pen. you don’t get much to say before interviewers swarm him, but like he always does, he flashes you his pearly fake smile before turning to the cameras.
he’d been doing it with you since you told him all of his emotions lie on the surface of his face. his fans can tell when he’s truly not happy, so you made a deal to help teach him how to fake a smile when times were bad.
“no you still look mad! smile with your eyes, dumbass.” you laugh pushing his cheeks to go wider, his giggle grows inside the motorhome, “I’m trying!”
“Carlos, what happened out there?”

gods dude i miss living in australia ahdaskfjsdg like i loved going grocery shopping in woolworths. like i think we used to go twice a week or so? and that period of time was one of the very few times i would happily eat veggies. like i was chomping on a carrot or two the entire time. and like i think i loved my 3 months in australia bc while it wasnt a vacation (bc we were supposed to live there for like 4 years but came back be of complications w my dads job) i still didnt ahve school and i used to go to the park daily and run around and/or play cricket and there were so many birb!!!! i fucking love magpies even tho they were a pain in the arse and we used to all around the city exploring and omg i loved opal asdnsjfsdkfj I STILL HAVE MY FUCKING CARD LMAOOO i loved the trains man. they were so cool. ooh and i remember when i had my first bagel lmao and a seagull stole my brothers asdh aksfj. fun fucking times man i love being nostalgic about those few months they were amazing. like probably the best few days of my life i could talk about it for ages actually
sappho awww firstly thank you for popping in my inbox I love hearing from you!!! and secondly I was thinking about this sort of topic on a rare and ponderous walk I went on just half an hour ago. like I've lived in this same house for three years and vaguely same area for my whole life and yet there are streets i've never walked down?? It's all kinda mundane and ordinary to me? and I was just walking through these backstreets and thinking if I have no appreciation for this area and my life here I will have no appreciation for anything. I was walking around imagining a post-apocalypse type scenario like yeah I would travel around and walk through streets like this. But lol in general just trying to appreciate the familiar and the mundane. So perfect timing for this ask!! it's sweet and interesting to hear about how such a normal place for me is a beautiful memory for you, I will take care to appreciate my opal card every time I take the bus and train to school. it's a shame you couldn't have stayed here longer!! it's possible we could have crossed paths or that we even did! do you think you would come back in the future? a lot of my early cheerful memories involve a park and birds too :) as you may have seen I briefly talked about in tags recently? right now my dad keeps getting woken by bird wars at 4am, bc cuckoos are moving in to the area and they kick other birds' eggs out of their nests. and a few days ago my mum was woken by the noise of a brush-tailed possum (I think they're called that?) a horrifying screech which I will include a youtube link for. and re: veggies I think Australia is in a fairly unique and privileged position as the producer + customer of good produce. like most of the places that produce the best stuff don't even get to enjoy them? like Brazil and Ecuador and their coffee beans. that's a whole nother discussion about the global north/south ig but yeah like thats something I take for granted. exploring the city is soso nice I never get sick of it, one friend and I often end up wandering around the CBD when we hang out :) i went on a walk all around sydney harbour with another friend, and I've only walked across the harbour bridge once lol by myself. the magpies and seagulls!! man!! love magpies and everyone has a funny story of being absolutely divebombed in spring by them. one time my friend and I got sandwiches from the Subway that's at a circular quay wharf, if yoy rmemeber that station? Right near the opera house? anyways her sandwich fell and the toppings were gobbled up by seagulls in just a few seconds. Rip to your brother's bagel :'( I don't have bagels often but I love them. ooh also on the topic of opal cards/public transport -- the Sydney Metro! they've got this cool driverless speedy new train line and they're expanding it by revamping some existing train lines. and lightrail expansion too! so when you come back you can zip around the city in style. anyways in your honour I will move through the city with much appreciation for all the mundane things, and I hope you get to visit again sometime :))
