Marion William Dial (June 27, 1903 - April 22, 1972) was the first African American elected to a city-wide office in Missouri. He was born in Chetopa, Kansas. After a BA and MA from the Kansas State Teachers College, he embarked on a long career in education and community activism in Kansas and Missouri.
He began his educational career by teaching for several years in the small Kansas towns of Yale and Weir. He was hired to teach and coach at the all-Black Lincoln School in Joplin, Missouri. He became the school principal while continuing to coach. As the coach of the boys’ basketball squad, he led his teams to several Missouri state championships.
He ran for a seat on the Joplin city council in 1954, winning over 25 other candidates. His election was especially noteworthy because this marked the first time that an African American had won a city-wide race in the state.
He helped to guide Joplin through a peaceful integration of the city’s school system. Lincoln School, where he served as principal, was transformed into an integrated special educational facility for the city.
He was involved in other civic matters as well. He served on the board of directors of the city’s Salvation Army chapter, was a member of the Masons, was a Boy Scout leader, was active in the Unity Baptist Church, and worked as a part-time park ranger for many years at the George Washington Carver National Monument in Diamond, Missouri. He was a member of several education boards and committees including serving on the executive committee of the Joplin Teachers’ Association and as the first president of the Southwest Missouri Negro Teachers’ Association.
In 2014, the Joplin school board named a portion of the city’s high school the “Marion Dial Administration and Counseling Services Center”. #africanhistory365 #africanexcellence

The horrific murder of Laken Riley by a repeated felony offender and illegal alien Jose Ibarra, 26, a Venezuelan citizen, was preventable—had federal immigration laws simply been enforced by the Biden administration.
When called out in his recent State of the Union address, President Biden referenced the deceased Ms. Riley. But Biden misidentified her as “Lincoln Riley”—the USC football coach!
Biden only accurately noted that she “was killed by an “illegal.””
True—but almost immediately the left was infuriated over Biden’s accurate use of the supposedly insensitive “illegal” for the murderer Ibarra.
Biden soon apologized for correctly identifying her killer as an illegal alien—but not for misidentifying the victim.
He left the callous impression that he was more upset about offending his open-borders base than about the savage beating of a young 22-year-old American nursing student.
Biden’s woke open-borders agenda supersedes any worry over the subsequent mounting number of Americans who have fallen victim to foreign gangs and criminals. He seems oblivious to the nearly 100,000 Americans who die from fentanyl imported across open borders.
The same idea of abstract humanity juxtaposed with concrete callousness towards humans characterizes much of the current leftist agenda.
The Biden administration envisions mandating the use of electric vehicles and banning natural gas appliances. These measures will supposedly help “save” the planet—even as they make life far more expensive and dangerous for the middle class and poor in the here and now.
We are told that biologically born males who transition to females have a civil right to compete in female sports.
Such transgender activism may sound compassionate in the abstract. Yet in the concrete, thousands of women are put in danger by competing against the much larger musculoskeletal frames and natural strength of transitioning males.
Moreover, tens of thousands of young female athletes are losing opportunities to excel and set records—thus destroying over a half-century of women’s efforts to reach parity with men’s sports.
In 2021, United Airlines president Scott Kirby bragged that his company was now devoted to ensuring that fifty percent of all trained pilots would be either people of color or women.
The Federal Aviation Administration had similar diversity, equity, and inclusion mandates for hiring air traffic controllers.
In 2023, Boeing bragged that it was using “inclusion” as a criterion for executive compensation. Pay from now on would be calibrated in large part on the success of hiring new employees on the basis of their race, gender, and sexual orientation.
In the abstract, ensuring that air travel “looks like America” is no doubt a noble goal.
But if such subordination of meritocracy is canonized without proper attention to the only criterion that really matters—the safety of the nearly 3 million American airline passengers who take 45,000 flights per day—lives will be needlessly lost.
Some data and recent anecdotal evidence suggest that something has now gone dangerously wrong with the entire airline industry.
In January 2023, thousands of domestic flights were cancelled or delayed because of a series of Federal Aviation Administration computer failures. Over the last ten years, near-crashes and collisions of commercial places have more than doubled.
Even scarier, in the last two weeks alone, United Airlines suffered numerous near-catastrophic events that may have involved crew lapses, air traffic controller errors, or problems with Boeing jet construction or maintenance—or all three. Specific details have mysteriously been kept from the public.
A United flight from San Francisco to Mexico had to make an emergency landing due to failing hydraulics. Another United flight bound for San Francisco from Sydney, Australia, had to return around due to a “maintenance issue.” Yet another flight out of Chicago O’Hare International Airport likewise suffered undisclosed “maintenance issues” and returned home.
At Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport, a United plane simply taxied off the runway and got stuck in the grass. Another United flight from San Francisco lost a wheel while taking off!
Yet another United flight from Houston to Florida was forced to make an emergency landing after one of its engines caught fire. At about the same time, a United flight bound for San Francisco from Hawaii experienced an engine failure in mid-flight.
Dozens were injured on a Boeing jet during a Chilean airline flight from Australia to New Zealand due to what officials called “a technical event during the flight which caused a strong movement.”
Anytime ideology and dogma trump merit, logic, and safety, the result is predictably scary and dangerous.
America needs to recalibrate its priorities to protect the lives and aspirations of all its citizens, regardless of their race and gender.
If our elites do not stop playing god and mandating their visions of heaven on earth, then they will surely ensure hell for us all.

Crawford Coach Connection
High school football coach: Get kids to degrees
After 130 wins, Morse High School football coach and athletic director Tracy McNair has made an impact in the San Diego sports world.
But what you can’t put a number on is the sheer amount of lives he has changed along the way. Brandon Stone sat down with the longtime southeast San Diego resident to learn more about the journey that made the man.
Always charting the course is the mark of a coach — but in Tracy McNair’s world, so much more.
“Right now, I think more than anything else, [my role] is mentor, father, coach, teacher, athletic administrator, babysitter, car driver,” McNair said. “I probably can’t put it on a resume, but what you see is what you get.”
“Sitting here in this classroom brings back memories of times when I didn’t have that teacher,” McNair continued. “There were times in class where the teacher told me, ‘You won’t make it to see 21.’ But now I’m 52.”
And still going strong running Morse High, the model of hard work was set long ago through family.
“Me being a young kid, not understanding all of the stuff that my grandma went through,” McNair said. “She only had one hand that only had two fingers on it. When she was a minor, she was pushed into a fire as she was the maid of a family. And at that time, her fingers melted together. She’d tell us, through all she did with that one hand, that hard work pays off. Perseverance will always pay off.”
He took that lesson first to Crawford High School, then back to the school he graduated from — taking the baton from his legendary head coach, a five-time CIF champion.
“A lot of people want to say they want to go to the NFL. That was never my focus,” McNair said. “My focus was I wanted to be just like [John Shacklett]. I wanted to be at Morse. I wanted to be a head coach. I wanted to be an athletic director. I wanted to affect kids’ lives and affect change within my own community.”
Stone asked McNair how much it changes the perspective to be able to learn from someone that looks like them and understands what they went through.
“I think the biggest attribute of all that is I went to Morse,” McNair said. “I can see these families and these kids on a day-to-day basis walking through their own community. I know their parents. I know their grandparents.”
A blessing paid back in full in 2018, when three old teammates — David Dunn at Lincoln, Charles James at San Diego and Coach McNair — made that same CIF history.
“One of the most wonderful things I’ve ever seen in my life is to have three Morse Tigers go to CIF at the same time. And then all of us win CIF,” McNair said.
The Morse name continues to be strong to this day. When San Diego State University hired their new coach, Sean Lewis, he credited a Morse alum, Dino Babers, as a mentor to him as he was learning the college game. Lewis was an assistant to Babers at three different stops in the past decade.
“So what is my job as a coach? Get kids to degrees,” McNair said. “Because 20 years from now, ain’t nobody gonna care who won the CIF, except for us as adults. Those kids want to see those degrees. Those parents want to see those degrees.” *Reposted article from Fox 5 by Brandon Stone on February 3, 2024

Oregon, Washington Ride Savvy Coaching Hires to Pac-12 Championship Game
Two years ago this week, college football was rocked by the blockbuster coaching hires of Lincoln Riley at USC and Brian Kelly at LSU. They were surprise moves from one blueblood program to another for massive salaries, dominating the news cycle and accelerating a coaching carousel that saw jobs change hands at 15 high-level schools and 29 total in FBS. Overshadowed by those…

Ikard and Lehman - who I look to for football wisdom have spoken (I'm giving it to you in a fraction of the time they take.
1. Jeff Lebby was a driving force, if not the driving force, in getting OU's NIL program to where it is
2. Lebby was a huge hire (Saban did want him) and Gabe didn't expect him to stay at OU longer than three years at the maximum till hired away with a head coaching job.
3. Jeff Lebby is a fun guy to be around. That is expressing it way too simplistically. Venables is extremely intense, very very direct, "you are with us or you're not.". Lebby was a counterpoint to that defensive coach mindset. Being fun to be around is important to 18 to 22 year olds who are going to have their lives consumed with football.
4. Coaches leaving with Lebby? No one, makes a lateral coaching position move from Oklahoma to Mississippi State!
5. New offensive coordinator is an extremely important hire. Candidates:
Joe Jon Finley is tied very closely with Lebby. He might get a position as the named offensive coordinator at Mississippi State, but Lebby would call the plays.. Advantage that the players wouldn't have to learn a new system and vocabulary with an outside hire. (Personally I don't see this as important after observing kids jump in the transfer portal and go from being an important contributor to a star in another system in just 9 months.
Seth Littrell - is on staff as an analyst. This is a job that pays very little and is frequently filled by head coaches and coordinators that have been fired. They rehabilitate their careers till they get their next big job. Was head coach at North Texas till getting fired. He was on OU's last national championship team. His offensive philosophy is out of the Air Raid family - Mike Leach, Lincoln Riley. This is somewhat different than the Art Briles offense Lebby came from

A Historic trip through the streets of Lincoln, United Kingdom.
Lincoln is a city thick with history and culture, it is one of the best places to base a history project on and that is what my semester and I did. I’m a student at the university of Nottingham and we had a History project, it needed to be based on another city in UK than our own and we decided to look over at Lincoln. The project was basically a visitation and the whole class needed to write their own reports about what they learned, weaved in with a lot of historic information and knowledge. We decided to make it a historic trip, going and staying there over the weekend, which was a good idea since we needed to take out times during the visitation, the project did account for a lot of credit. We looked through everything needed for the trip, including accommodations and minibus hire in Lincoln, because we didn’t need any from Nottingham to Lincoln as everyone wanted to go there themselves with their own friend.
We all got to Lincoln by different methods and means, re-grouping at the hotel to plan out next move. We decided that this was the time to start travelling together as it would be more efficient to visit any location. We contacted a Minibus hire in Lincoln and the company actually not only gave us a good deal, but they also provided us with a good trip plan, giving us a great few locations. We went to rest for the first few hours and decided it was a good idea to visit The Lincoln Cathedral the first time around, once we had had our rest, we called the Minibus company, Hire Minibus Lincoln, original naming… I know, and we decided to leave for the Cathedral and the trip was actually so informative, especially seeing the structure after reading up on the history was something that made it stand out. Our next step was to go to an older place, Lincoln Medieval Bishops' Palace, which was somewhat under construction but was mostly available for viewing and honestly it was stunning.
The walls spoke of the time they had lived and the structure itself was so fascinating. The times were different hence it was amazing to see what the architectural needs of people then and there were and how they were executed in the buildings making. This place and the Lincoln castle were a recommendation from the Minibus hire in Lincoln company that provided us with our transportation. The Castle at first seemed like it would be quite boring but the preservation and everything inside it now were actually quite intriguing and gave the castle an air of Nostalgia and warmth. Thinking about the past and these places really made us all explore into this mystery of History.

Lincoln for a short visit; All the great Historic attractions.
Lincoln is a great city in the Midlands of East England, this city is based around one of the most beautiful cathedrals, the Lincoln Cathedral and if you are passing by this wonderful city, you should take your time and look around. If you wish to have a peaceful yet fun time in this place, it’s good to take your time in each place, however a run on the time crunch works just fine! The first tip would be to Hire a Minibus in Lincoln that is affordable for all the people involved once you divide the price, these vehicles are some of the more comfortable means to travel and really take the ache away from you of getting a bad travel experience.
Let’s get into the Places that you can visit with your group if you want to go around and take in the city of Lincoln. However, remember that our selection is just a list of places and out of these you should visit the number you are comfortable with and not go on an actual time crunch.
1. Lincoln Castle
This is one of the Old 11th Century Castle that will bring your Princess fantasies to life or Prince, we don’t discriminate. The place is breath-taking as you see the still intact castle walls that were made over a Millennia ago. The beauty is still in sight but there have been more attractions added into the castle.
2. Lincoln Cathedral
This 947 Years old, the religious structure holds a sense of great peace and history in its beautiful walls. The detailed architecture is a tedious work of art amongst other things. The Victorian walls make the Cathedral stand out and many go there to see the beauty of it all/
3. Steep Hill
If you wish to turn your surroundings back in time, take your hired minibus in Lincoln through the Steep Hill in Lincoln, as it turns the clocks back to medieval times, making the surroundings look like something out of a fantasy novel. There are many different things that stand out about these homes, amongst being old, there is a sense of weird nostalgia.
4. High Bridge
The city of Lincoln does not hold back any surprises as there is the gorgeous High bridge of Lincoln that is one of the Oldest standing bridges in the United Kingdom as a whole, that still have the structure on top that is holding everything perfectly together. It looks like one of the bridges from an old Shakespearian tale, just much more authentic.
These places hold a certain beauty to them and make you a trip worth the while. If you Hire a minibus in Lincoln, you can make them change the routes to make it a tour, many companies provide you pre-planned tours as well, such as HireMinibusLincoln.co.uk, they give you a great experience and you can find comfort in the travel.

Me, earlier this afternoon: “Oh hey I should check r/cfb... oh hey Michigan finally took down Ohio State for a change, that’s nice... no other defaced logos today, but then Georgia Tech is bad and nobody else has really had the chance yet... oh right, UTSA is at UNT. UTSA should win handily, but that’s a budding rivalry so maybe UNT can keep it close or sneak out a wi-LOLWUT?”
#funniest possible coaching carousel timeline:#1) LSU snipes Lincoln Riley#2) OU overreacts to this game and hires Littrell#(OU is Littrell's alma mater; he played there)#3) OU implodes right as the SEC move kicks in#4) Also Texas is still not back

Former Beaverton mayor Dennis “Denny” Doyle has been charged with possessing child pornography, federal prosecutors announced Friday.
A criminal information filed in court alleges Doyle possessed digital material containing child pornography, including images depicting minors under 12, between November 2014 and continuing through December 2015.
The charges stem from an old computer thumb or flash drive that was turned over to authorities containing the alleged pornography and other personal material belonging to Doyle, according to a source familiar with the investigation.
Doyle is expected to make his first appearance before a federal magistrate judge Friday afternoon.
Doyle did not immediately respond to messages seeking comment. Assistant Federal Public Defender Elizabeth Daily confirmed she’s representing Doyle but declined comment at this time.
Doyle, 73, served as a Beaverton’s councilman for more than a decade before he was elected mayor in 2008. He served three terms in the city’s top elected position, relinquishing the job in 2020 after he was beaten in a runoff election.
In 1993, Doyle helped found the Westside Metros Soccer Club, a nonprofit youth soccer club that hired professional coaches to lead about 30 boys and girl soccer teams. When he took office, he was a paid employee of the club. The club is now the Westside Timbers Soccer Club.
In 2008, Doyle was named Citizen of the Year by the Boy Scouts of America, then recognized for his longtime community service and work with youth sports. In addition to founding the Westside Metros Soccer Club, he served on the Westside Recreational Soccer Club Board and was a board member of the Beaverton Baseball and Softball Association. He had sat on the Tualatin Hills Park & Recreation District’s board, and on school committees for Beaverton High School and Sexton Mountain Elementary School.
Doyle had a prior run-in with police. When he ran for mayor in 2008, Doyle apologized for a 2002 arrest in Lincoln City for drunken driving, saying it was a “mistake” he deeply regretted. At the time, he was in Lincoln City for a youth soccer tournament and was stopped after he decided to drive his wife to the hospital after he said he had been drinking. He entered diversion and the case was dismissed in 2003.

2022 Top Ten Active Coaches Power Rankings
To finish off the coaching power rankings series, we’re pitting the top coaches across the land against each other to see who’s the best of the very best.
Check out last years rankings to see who’s moved up and down.
-
10. Mike Gundy
Record at Oklahoma State: 149-69 Division Championships: 1 (2010) Conference Championships: 1 (2011)
Movement: Same
Mike Gundy holds firm to his top 10 spot in the rankings thanks to a very successful 12-2 campaign in 2021. The Cowboys recorded their second best season ever under their longtime head coach. Nobody has won in Stillwater the way Gundy has, and he seems well positioned to keep Oklahoma State advancing further as the Big 12 shifts.
-
9. Luke Fickell
Record at Cincinnati: 48-15 Overall Record: 54-22 Division Championships: 3 (2019, 2020, 2021) Conference Championships: 2 (2020, 2021)
Movement: N/A
Luke Fickell is the first G5 coach to crack the top ten rankings since Chris Petersen left Boise State for Washington. It’s no surprise, Fickell’s Cincinnati Bearcats are looking like the best non-AQ football program since those incredible Broncos squads. Cincinnati won’t even be a mid-major for long, as the Bearcats make the jump up to the Big 12 and back into a major conference in a few years.
-
8. Mack Brown
Record at North Carolina: 90-63-1 Overall Record: 265-139-1 National Championships: 1 (2005)
*with Texas
Movement: Down 1 spot
North Carolina’s lackluster performance in 2021 bumps Mack Brown down a spot. The Tar Heels took a step back last year with a 6-7 campaign. Brown still appears to be building momentum in Chapel Hill for the time being, let’s see if UNC improves in Year 4.
-
7. Kirk Ferentz
Record at Iowa: 178-110 Record Overall: 190-131 Division Championships: 2 (2015, 2021) Conference Championships: 2 (2002, 2004)
Movement: Up 2 spots
Iowa once again turned in a double-digit win season, their seventh under Ferentz. The Hawkeyes claimed the Big Ten West in a crowded race, but ultimately showed themselves to be no match to Michigan in the Championship Game. There’s still a ceiling in Iowa City, but Ferentz is keeping the Hawkeyes as competitive as possible in an increasingly competitive conference.
-
6. Jimbo Fisher
Record at Texas A&M: 34-14 Overall Record: 117-37 National Championships: 1 (2013)*
*with Florida State
Movement: Same
Texas A&M didn’t follow up on the promise of their breakout 2020 season. Jimbo stays put on the list as other SEC coaches outmaneuvered the Aggies in the national championship race.
-
5. Lincoln Riley
Overall Record: 55-10
Movement: Down 1 spot
Oklahoma’s 10-2 record without playing for the Big 12 championship was a comparative step down for Riley, who had led the Sooners to four consecutive league titles before the streak ended in 2021. Riley is now at USC, where he’ll attempt to resurrect a winning program in Los Angeles. He’s one of the top young coaches in the game, can he pull it off?
-
4. Brian Kelly
Overall Record: 284-97-2
Movement: Down 1 spot
Another top coach on the move is Brian Kelly, who left a plum gig in South Bend for a plum gig in Baton Rouge. Kelly did everything he could at Notre Dame and now wants to try his luck for a national championship at LSU. The last three guys all did it at least once, do you think Kelly can make it four in a row?
-
3. Kirby Smart
Record at Georgia: 66-15 Division Championships: 4 (2017, 2018, 2019, 2021) Conference Championships: 2 (2017, 2021) National Championships: 1 (2021)
Movement: N/A
Kirby Smart smashes into the rankings, jumping all the way to #3 following his national championship season. It’s well earned, he did exactly what he was hired to do in making in Georgia a war machine that recruits and develops players at the same level as Alabama. I wonder how many he’ll win in Athens when it’s all said and done.
-
2. Dabo Swinney
Record at Clemson: 150-36 Division Championships: 9 (2009, 2011, 2012, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020) Conference Championships: 7 (2011, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020) National Championships: 2 (2016, 2018)
Movement: Same
Clemson didn’t impress anybody in 2021. The Tigers turned in a relatively mediocre 10-3 record and found them excluded from any meaningful Playoff talk. It was an off year. Dabo is still one of the best coaches today so he’s staying put in the rankings as Clemson attempts to rebound.
-
1. Nick Saban
Record at Alabama: 183-25 Record Overall: 274-66-1 Division Championships: 11 (2008, 2009, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2021) Conference Championships: 7 (2009, 2012, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2018, 2020, 2021) National Championships: 7 (2003*, 2009, 2011, 2012, 2015, 2017, 2020)
*at LSU
Movement: Same
He’s the best ever, he’s not moving until he gets outdone. Somehow.

Aaron Burr and his umbrella misfortunes
Home at 4. Caught in the rain, having yesterday left my umbrella at Brentford—no doubt lost. Dinner, B. and K. Read out the review of the "Life of Washington" by Marshall and Ramsay. The review is full as stupid, and as illy written, as either of the books.

Loses umbrella for the first time. (Bonus throwing shade on Life of Washington and its review.)
Rose at ten. Such is the mode in London. Sor. at 1. Going up Haymarket, met Madame O., and walked with her half an hour. Went to the stage-house in Piccadilly to inquire for my umbrella, but with little hope. It was there, brought by the coachman; 1 shilling 6 pence. How very honest people are here, and yet I am cheated most impudently every hour!
- December 7, 1808
Finds the umbrella, has to pay to get it back.
Rose at 6. Set off at 7. I sleep very soundly in these stage coaches. By sleeping, however, forgot to ask for my umbrella, which I had left at Stanmore.
- December 14, 1808
When he seemingly forgets it again.
Stayed to dinner. Out at 10; raining, took K.'s umbrella, having lost my own. Koe overtook me, having run all that way in the rain; sent by Bentham to bring me back to sleep, he not suspecting that I was going off. Apologized.
- February 8, 1808
And again.
As I was writing the concluding line of the preceding page last evening (about 1 o'clock) an ill-looking fellow opened my door without knocking, and muttering in German something which I did not comprehend, bid me put out my candle. Being in no very placid humor at the moment, as you see, I cursed him and sent him to hell in French and English. He advanced and was going to seize the candle. My umbrella, which had a dirk in the handle, being near me, I seized it, drew the dirk, and drove him out of the room. Some minutes after I heard the steps of a number of men and looking out at my windows saw it was a corporal's guard. It then occurred to me that this Erfurt, being a garrison town with a French governor (de Vismes), there might probably enough be an order for extinguishing lights at a certain hour, and I had no doubt but the gentlemen I had just seen in the street were coming to invite me to take a walk with them. So I bundled up my papers and put them in my pocket to be ready for a lodging in the guard house. It was only the relief of the centinels' going round and who the impertinent extinguisher was I have not learnt.
- January 9, 1810
So much to unpack here I don’t know where to even start. I don’t know if my favourite thing is
that there was a stranger barging into his room insisting he puts out the candle,
that he crankily attacked him with a knife,
that the knife was hidden inside the handle of his umbrella,
that he suddenly remembered there was a law forbidding light after a certain hour
and was afraid the guards passing by might be coming for him
...or that he had a rare stroke of luck and nothing happened
Sor. 11 to the umbrella-mender; nothing done.
- April 20, 1810
I had no paraplui² and was resolved not to take coach if one had offered. Got home wet to the skin, from head to foot. Jul. made me a good fire, for my chimney was reformed a little. Changed clothes. Caf. blanc, and am quite refreshed.
2 For farafluit. Umbrella.
- October 18, 1810
Deliberating on the state of my finances, found that this sans sous state was not only inconvenient, but dangerous; for instance, this morning I hit a glass window with my umbrella, and had nearly forced it through one of three large panes. In such a case you have only to pay, and there's an end of it; but had I broken the pane and not been able to pay for it, I must infallibly have been taken before a commissionaire de police to abide his judgment.
- December 10, 1810
Burr what were you doing
Thence to Vanderlyn's to get more newspapers. While there it set in to rain; had no umbrella, and got wet.
- December 12, 1811
A brilliant morning. Sun shining bright for this hemisphere. Went out without my umbrella. Before I got one hundred yards it began to rain. Went back for the umbrella.
- February 13, 1811
At least you went back for it this time I guess?
Very grave and philosophical, and full of good resolutions. Have lost my umbrella! But it is better to begin in the usual form.
- February 18, 1811
Had breakfast at 6. Was sitting in the parlor below reading a newspaper. Received a smart click on the head. It was Madame. "Mais vous etes la tout tranquille. Vous laissez tous vos hardes pele mele. Voila votre paraplui. Vous ne pensez a rien. Vous etes come un enfant. Le diligence va partir et vous ne faites rien"².
2 For "Mais vous êtes là tout tranquille. Vous laissez toutes vos hardes pêle-mêle. Voilà votre parapluie. Vous ne pensez à rien. Vous êtes comme un enfant. Le diligence va partir et vous ne faites rien." "But you are quite at your ease there. You leave all your clothes lying pell mell. There is your umbrella. You don'tthink of anything. You are like a child. The diligence is going to leave you and you are doing nothing."
- May 18, 1811
After the fireworks were done, Mr. L. proposed that he and I should walk along the river and about the palace, to see the various illuminations. F. recommended this; we saw her in the carriage, and she went off; we were to take our chance for a hack. Mr. L., not being well acquainted with the ground, and the confusion produced by the variety of light, led us astray, and when we reached the river found ourselves 1/2 mile above the bridge. It now began to rain hard; we had no surtouts or umbrellas. When we reached the bridge, there was nothing to be seen which we had not before seen from a better point of view. We, therefore, took shelter in the first house we could get in ; but the crowd was so immense that even this was difficult. At length we had room to stand up under cover. Mr. L. then went out to hunt a carriage. All were engaged. He went in another direction, and, after an hour, returned without success. He was not to be discouraged. Out he went again. A guinea was asked for a seat to town, about six or seven miles; and then you must be crammed in with six or eight drenched people. At 1/2 p. 1 he returned with a carriage; at what price I know not, for he would not let me interfere.
- June 23, 1811
I should say this was the same day as, or shall I say directly after the “got brain freeze and thought he was dying” episode. Burr just can’t catch a damn break.
The chevalier led me au P. R., after strolling an hour, in a caffe into a cellar, which I will describe as well as I can. We took ice-creams. There was music and a ventriloquist. We agreed to neglect Madame F. At 1/2 p. 10 I got home. [...] Mem.: Left my new umbrella at that confounded ventriloquist's and am sure shall never see it again.
- June 30, 1811
My umbrella is lost; lost 32 francs. Paid for our ice-creams 3 francs.
- July 1, 1811
To near Luxembourg 5 to get an umbrella which some one, unknown, left in my room a fortnight ago, and which has, therefore, become my property by prescription. Paid for mending it, 3 francs.
- July 11, 1811
Score! Gains an umbrella instead of losing it for once.
The morning appearing fine, went out without my umbrella and got well wetted. It is against my conscience, you know, to hire a hack.
- January 29, 1812
Set out for Lincoln's Inn Fields, but hard rain coming on, and having taken no umbrella, the morning being fine, turned about and stopped a few minutes at Godwin's. Continued in all the rain; by musing, lost my way and got wet to the skin. Home at 4. Changed and made a great fire.
- January 30, 1812
Burr. Burr.
And here is where the fun begins:
Got home at 4, and discovered that I had lost my umbrella; a most serious misfortune, and little hope of recovering it, as I have no recollection where I stopped. It is impossible for me to buy one or to do without one.
- February 18, 1812
Slept near seven hours last night, and did not rise till 8. My umbrella hung heavy at my heart. Went to hunt for it. Walked back on the track I came from J. H.'s yesterday, and called at the places I had been; but no umbrella. It is finally lost, and I must submit to the inconvenience of getting wet and of spoiling my clothes.
- February 19, 1812
Then home, following again the track of my poor lost umbrella, but to no purpose.
- February 20, 1812
I had intended to have breakfasted at J. B.'s, for the purpose of taking the retorts early to friend Allen; but in the first place I slept till 9, and in the next it rained in torrents and you know my umbrella is on a voyage. [...] The rain setting in again, bought me the cheapest umbrella I could find that was large enough. Cost 10 shillings and 6 pence.
- March 2, 1812
THE END.

🏒💙 NEW RELEASE 💙🏒
SNAP SHOT by USA Today bestselling author MJ Fields is NOW AVAILABLE!!
Kameron
I was never happier than the day my mother (and grandmother) agreed that I could leave the great state of Texas to attend a college nearly two thousand blissful miles away.
They only agreed because:
Delta is the top sorority at Lincoln University; therefore, I could and would become the third generation of Hunt women to hold the office of Delta President.
Brad Kosta, my uncle, was the coach of the Lincoln Lions Ice Hockey team, and he could look after me.
I also had a secret obligation to fulfill to myself. I was going to pursue my passion—photography—and find a man to give myself to who my brothers couldn’t intimidate. A man who wouldn’t turn college into a cautionary tale of heartbreak and self-loathing, but instead a fond memory. A man who wasn’t a player, an F-boy, or some stupid jock.
The thing is, the only guy I’ve met on a campus who’s held my interest is, in fact, a jock.
Not just any jock; he’s one of Uncle Brad’s top players.
Evan
Senior year’s focus should be all about securing my spot with the Brooklyn Bears. Should be skating easy. Should be … but I’m not.
I’m about to make an enemy out of the one person I should be bowing to—Coach Kosta.
Not my fault he hired a smoke show to be our team photographer. One with hella curves, southern charm, and impeccable taste in men—me. One who confessed she’d never given herself to anyone but trusted that I’m the right man for the job.
They say, “sticks over chicks,” but whoever coined that phrase had obviously never met a girl like Kameron Kosta, the coach’s niece.
I’ll let that chick do whatever she wants to my … stick, no matter the cost.

Spoiler: [About the Baker family in Midland, Illinois. Tom and Kate are the parents of 12 children. Tom coaches football at Lincoln College while Kate just finished her book script called Cheaper by the Dozen. They met in college as she wanted to be a sport reporter and he wanted to be the head football coach. They wanted a large family. They moved to Midland and away from the city after realizing a large family is so hectic. He talks to his oldest son, Charlie, about college and he wants to get a job instead. Their eldest daughter, Nora, has moved out with her boyfriend, Hank, and says she won’t be visiting for the Christmas photos or dinner. The family works together to make breakfast and their lunches. Mark tries to catch his escaped frog, Beans, and Beans jumps into their eggs. As everyone tries to catch Beans, the breakfast and lunches get ruined. They head to school as Mark gets consoled by Kate since he doesn’t feel as if he belongs in this family. Tom gets visited by Shake, his football teammate, who invites him to coach for their old team. It’s Tom’s dream job back in Evanston, Illinois. He discusses it with Kate in private, but the kids spy in and learn that they are moving. They are all upset during Christmas photos since they don’t want to leave their lives here. They discuss it later and Tom mentions that they’ll have more money for the things they want. The kids want to vote, but the parents ultimately make the decision themselves to move. They move in to their new large house as everyone picks out their rooms. They are greeted by a neighboring family consisting of an uptight mom, Tina, a more lenient dad, Bill, and their properly taught son, Dylan. Dylan joins the other kids roller skate in the house and he ends up falling off the second story and hangs onto the chandelier. Tom tries to save him, but the chandelier falls and Tina doesn’t approve of their family. Charlie goes to sign up for the football team, but is denied quarterback as they look down on where he’s from. Kate learns of her book deal and has to head to New York. Their daughter, Lorraine, helps her pick out professional outfits since she’s good with fashion. Because Tom will need help taking care of the kids without Kate, they call Nora to come visit to help. Hank doesn’t want to, but is convinced. As they are playing a family game called Apple Schmear, Nora and Hank arrive. The kids start a battle plan led by Sarah. They manage to make Hank fall into the dirty pool. As his clothes are getting cleaned, they soak his underwear in meat. In the meantime, Hank talks with Nora’s parents about his life as an actor. During lunch, their dog, Gunner, attacks Hank as he’s wearing the underwear. Nora and Hank leave after Nora yells at her family. Kate leaves for New York as the kids start attending their new school. Charlie is looked down upon by the other students, who bully him for coming from the country. Mark is bullied by two other boys. Tom handles the household and it becomes chaotic. Kate learns that she needs to stay more weeks to go on a book tour and Tom approves of it even though he is struggling. Lorraine tells Tom to call mom back even though he wants to hire help. He goes through the phone book and is rejected by any help since he has so many kids. Tom overlooks his children as he gets busier with work. Mark shows him a photo he drew at school of his favorite place in the world, their Midland home. Kate goes on television to speak about her book. Tom brings the football players to their house to practice so that he can pay attention to both. His family shows up less to his games. The elementary students of his family get into a fight with Mark’s two bullies to defend him. Tom ends up grounding his children and preventing them from attending Dylan’s birthday party even though they already bought gifts. The kids sneak out and attend the party. Mark’s gift is a snake and it ends up escaping, causing havoc. Tom has his football players gather the kids and during the chaos, the bouncy house explodes and Dylan ends up in the hospital from Tom
crashing into him. The news talk about Tom juggling his professional and private life. Nora comes to help. Kate decides to come home and end her book tour. Instead, the Oprah Winfrey show decides to come to her home, so she has Tom clean everything up. Nora has Hank over to sleep even though she isn’t allowed to. They clean the house up and Oprah’s crew arrives. Tom learns that Charlie was kicked off the football team, Hank had stayed over, Shake wants him to put more priority on the team, and Kate is upset as she comes home. The whole family eventually starts fighting after Mark cries about Beans dying and he gets bullied by Sarah. Oprah’s crew calls Oprah to prevent her from coming since this isn’t a happy family. Kate learns that Mark ran away and everyone bands together to try and find him. Nora comes to help and is mad at Hank for not helping. They ask help from Dylan’s family, but only Bill and Dylan help. Tom believes Mark is heading to Midland and finds him on the train. They end up going to Midland. They come back and the Bakers give Beans a funeral. Tom quits his job and the family spends a happy Christmas together.]
