Word Count: 775 words
Summary: When Toya asks you to make spicy chicken for dinner, you happily oblige in the spirit of the season. But none of the Todorokis could possibly be prepared for a controversy that's just as spicy, all because of one little question from the youngest member of the Todoroki family.

December 7
Enji never fails to sneak into the kitchen whenever you make spicy chicken and rice. So even though your pulse races as strong arms wrap around your waist, it’s expected when you add the sauce and the smell of spice wafts through the house.
“You spoil me.” He rumbles against your cheek. “What’s the occasion?”
“Oh, shush. You know I make this whenever I know you’re going to be home to enjoy it.” You swirl the spatula around the pan to coat the chicken. “Besides, Toya asked for it.”
“You mean you didn’t make it just because you know it’s my favorite?” Enji fake pouts, tickling your sides.
Thankfully, you’re only waiting for the rice cooker to finish up or he might have ended up with a sauce-covered spatula to the face. As you squirm and squeal at his antics, you consider grabbing it anyway.
“Oh, I know. I cooked it because our son wanted some instead, how evil of me.” You reach back to tickle his belly in retribution – his one and only ticklish spot.
“Gah! Don’t even think about it!”
Suddenly you’re chest to chest with him as he pins your arms behind your back. He wears a playful smile – that was a cheeky move - meets your mischievous smirk – but you know you love me.
“Father, does Christmastime upset you?” Shoto’s curious little voice echoes from the dining room.
The two of you share a quick kiss before he releases you and turns to your youngest while you finish dinner.
“No, Shoto. Though it can be stressful in terms of crime, it does not upset me.” Enji answers. “Why?”
“Well, it’s just–”
“Fuyumi, that move was totally unfair! I had just finished my ice sculpture!” Natsuo comes in howling with laughter and trying to tousle his sister’s hair.
Tenko and Toya follow behind, falling over each other with cackles at the shenanigans of the other two. Once their laughter dies down, Shoto clears his throat, getting everyone’s attention as you work on putting together seven plates of food.
“I thought Christmas might upset you because it’s the only time that Mother kisses someone else other than you.”
The entire room falls silent. No more laughter, no more buzzing whispers between the other four Todoroki children. Even your light humming stops as you blink up at Shoto.
For obvious reasons, you’re confused, but you know when the room hikes up a few extra degrees that Enji’s confusion is evolving into anger. You bubble with pride when he pinches the bridge of his nose and takes a few deep breaths before jumping to conclusions. Not that you’d blame him if he did.
“Shoto, honey, what do you mean by that?” You ask, focusing on not burning yourself.
“Oh, um,” Shoto pauses, realizing his words hold great magnitude as all eyes zero in on him. “I just meant…last Christmas I saw her kissing Santa. But Father wasn’t around…I wasn’t sure if he was away because it upset him.”
Toya snorts into his fist. Fuyumi hides her own laughter in a cough. Tenko and Natsuo both furrow their brows at each other when Enji barks out a laugh. And even you have to turn your face away with the excuse of getting out cups to hide the smile stretching across your lips.
“Shoto, I don’t know how to tell you this, bud.” Toya begins with a shit-eating grin. “But that wasn’t Santa.”
Shoto tilts his head. “But it was. He had the red coat and the beard and bag and everything.”
“No, it wasn’t. It was Dad. Sometimes people dress up as Santa Claus to gather information on what they want for Christmas, and then they tell Santa. That way Santa can focus on making the toys around Christmas time when all of the requests are coming in.” Fuyumi hops in with an explanation. “So when you saw Mother kissing ‘Santa’ it was really Dad.”
“Hmm.” Is all Shoto says. “Is that true, Father?”
“Of course.” Enji smirks whenever he pulls you in close by the waist. “I’d know if your mother was kissing another man. Now, it’s time to eat.”
 The rest of the evening passes uneventfully, though you’re amused further when Shoto walks down the hall after brushing his teeth to whisper to Toya, “I’m still not sure it was Father. It had to be Santa. He told Mother that she had been a good girl.”
You can no longer contain it. Enji face palms as your laughter shakes the whole house. When you’re finally done, you stand beneath the mistletoe and wrap your arms around Enji’s neck.
“Want a kiss, Santa Claus?”

the thiarus empire |
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Built upon the natural resource abundance, fertile soils, and craftsmanship of its past, this nation is now among the safest countries in its corner of the world. Industrial advancements, rare resources, and violent battles of its past have allowed it to become one of the most fortunate counties in its corner of the world.
Their sustainability, hygiene, education, public health and life expectancy are among its current greatest strengths compared to other countries. Unfortunately, they lack in science and exports.
The Thiarus Empire is a feudal nation, with a council of nobles governed and oversee by the Royal Family. There are some opposing groups against the Royal family and their supporters, wanting more strength and freedom given to the nobles, and a growing group that wishes for more rights and freedoms for civilians all across the empire.
However, the current greatest threat to the nation are groups of bandits, smuggling, and overproduction of resources, but the current leadership is implementing a solution to solve this issue.
The people of the Empire, overall? are happy. They live pleasing lives, their sustainability helps relief most of their issues, and they enjoy many common uses of magic that make daily living easier.
Religion holds quite some importance in their lives and, if anything, has made them more sensitive. The people of Thiarus are quite spiritual as well and they have strict rules and beautiful customs.
Notable Traditions & Customs
- The Month's First Prayer: On the first Soliday of each month, families gather at dawn to offer prayers and small gifts to Thiohr and other deities they worship.
- Coming of Age Ceremony: Prior to their CoA Gala, debutantes and those of age receive a magical crystal that resonates with their innate magical abilities. The ceremony involves a night-long vigil at a sacred temple of their choice .
- Festival of Lights: During the Month of Hope (Zaficus), citizens release thousands of enchanted lanterns into the night sky, each carrying written wishes for the coming year.
- Blessing of the Waters: During spring, mages and priests perform rituals to bless the Empire's waterways, believed to ensure prosperity and good health for the year ahead.
Marriage Customs
Couples exchange enchanted rings that glow in the presence of their beloved. The ceremony must include the planting of a magical tree that will grow with their love.
- celebrations, couples perform a traditional magical dance where their combined magical auras create intricate patterns in the air, symbolizing their future unity.
- Vow Crystals: Each partner speaks their vows into enchanted crystals that preserve their words eternally. These crystals are then set into their household's foundation stones.
- Family Crest Merging: Noble houses perform an ancient ritual where their family crests magically combine to create a new, unique emblem for the married couple's branch of the family.
- Blessing Circle: During the ceremony, guests form a circle around the couple and channel their magic to create a dome of protective energy, believed to shield the new union from harm.
- Unity Potion: The couple drinks from a shared chalice containing a specially brewed potion that allows them to sense each other's emotions for the duration of their wedding day.
- Ancestral Witness: Through complex magic, the spirits of passed family members are temporarily summoned to witness and bless the union, appearing as ethereal lights around the ceremony space.
These customs vary by region and social status within the Empire, with noble houses often incorporating more elaborate magical elements into their ceremonies.

Hello my good fellow, tell me fun facts about all your ocs. 👀
All of my ocs? Well well well well!!!!!
I have to use my lmk ones for this! And maybe I might add my ninjago ocs at the end!
~~~~~~~
First we have -Ping Coa-
He is a very mysterious and cold demon! He used to be sweet and nice. But sadly something tragic happened. In his younger years his lover was killed in a massacre and he’s been furious ever since!
Ping doesn’t typically use his powers(Telekinesis and light control) But if the demon/person he’s fighting is powerful enough. Then he is not afraid to use them.
Ping is around 1000 years old, yet in mortal years he’s around twenty three!
~~~~~~~
-Ao Jinhai/Dushe Jingshen-
I made him before I realized that Ao Guang names his children 1, 2, and 3…
I’m only going to explain his past. Parts about his future is top secret! Unless I’m bored and want to share things.
He is the fourth and youngest son of Ao Guang. Jinhai loved hanging out with his brothers. After all, he was a child. But then, Ao Bing and Nezha fought. His brother had died to the Third Lotus Prince. And Jinhai had hated him ever since.
Years had passed and Ao Guang was getting strict. Especially to Ao Jinhai. Now, after everything that has happened to Jinhai so far made him wonder. He wanted answers. He wanted to fight the Third Lotus Prince. Which is such a terrible idea but he’s grieving.
But Ao Guang makes sure that Ao Jia, Ao Yi, and Ao Jinhai can’t go check out the surface. Which pisses them all off but Ao Guang is spooky so none of them do anything.
That is until Ao Jinhai runs away.
Long story short, he realizes that he definitely can’t take on Nezha. So he hides away from his father and brothers for a bit. Meets some snake friends. When he meets these cool snakes(they’re normal snakes) he realizes he can talk to them. He can even shapeshift into a snake! But sadly that’s all his shapeshifting powers could do.
After a while jttw starts. Bing bang boom he meets them. After accidentally killing everybody in a village. Everybody is pissed off, Ao Lie is there.
It seems I forgot to mention Ao lie, Ao Jinhai’s cousin. BUT WAIT!!! Does that mean… *gasp* Ao Jinhai is actually Mei’s GREAT UNCLE!?!?!?! I think that’s the correct familial term for whatever that is. But they just call each other cousins.
Ao Jinhai changes his name to Dushe Jingshen so when people ever refer to him. Ao Guang and his brothers would never find him!
~~~~~~~
-Shan Ji de-
Where do I even start? So she doesn’t really have much of a story. She’s 21, but 800 in demon years.
She’s a celestial monkey with three noses(a curse really)
And with those three noses she can smell almost anything!
Ji de is based off of a golden-headed lion tamarin!
She basically has all the basic celestial monkey powers. Like shapeshifting, golden eyes of truth. Other things as well…
I honestly don’t really have a story for her! She’s mostly just a chaotic and goofy little goober!
~~~~~~~
-Shi-
I impulsively made her, she has no story or any plots. She’s just here.
~~~~~~~
-Zǔzhó-
Brother to Bái Hé. He also doesn’t really have a story. But I’d love to make one with you!
He has a funky magic mirror that he uses to teleport through!
~~~~~~~
-Kěpà-
Kěpà has a depressing childhood… his father was abusive towards him and his mother. And as a young fox spirit(that’s all he is) he couldn’t do a single thing.
But his father will always leave an impact on his life. After Kěpà becomes an adult, he decides enough is enough. After all, shapeshifters are extraordinary
He would go on to use his talents for horrible things, even if these people were good or bad. He would shapeshift into a woman, flirt with whichever victim seemed to be into it. And then invite that man to his place. He would go onto reveal his true self, kill the person. Chop them up and make soup.
Just don’t interact with this guy if you’re a man.
~~~~~~~
And that’s all I have for lmk ocs! And damn do I need more female characters-
Green spring: Pixies
PIXIES
Category: British folklore
Ah, the pixies… Everybody knows – or rather think they know what a pixie are. They were heavily popularized by modern media. Harry Potter, Artemis Fowl, The Spiderwick Chronicles, Pathfinder…  But by now you probably know the song: the modern image we have of the pixie is not exactly what a pixie really is, and pixie doesn’t just mean “small, tiny fairy with wings”.
Pixies (also known as piskies or pigsies or pizkies or puggsies) are magical supernatural creatures of Southern England, similar in nature to elf, sprites and fairies. In fact, despite being treated as two different species, the legends and stories of pixies overlap with those of fairies in England. Pixies were depicted as small, child-like humanoids with a very mischievous nature. They usually could be spotted at night, when they gathered in huge numbers to either dance through the night or wrestle until dawn. Pixies were believed to live underground, at the location of ancient “pagan” sites: stone circles, dolmens, barrows, menhirs… Pixies are generally good-natured and benevolent entities – they reward humans that care for them or are polite towards them, while they punish those who neglect their shores or are rude ; they are merry folks, who give all sorts of blessings to the people they like… But their mischievous nature also makes them prone to nastier tricks more akin to the fairies: for example, they like leading travelers astray in the night to lose them, they can “infest” houses and farms poltergeist-style, and sometimes they steal children out of their cribs to raise as their own. One of the pixies big obsessions are horses: they adore them, usually steal them at night to ride on their back (just because they adore this), and they tangle their manes in form of ringlets. Pixies also love fine and good clothes: they usually go around either dressed in rags, either naked, but if you offer them good clothes, nice ribbons or fine silk, then they’ll be very happy.
Now, when it comes to pixies, there are two main “regional tradition”. One is from the New Forest region (Dorset, Hampshire…). New Forest pixies are depicted as wizened old men, with pale skin and round ears – there are no females among the pixies. Despite being very small (child-sized), they can use magic to alter their height – they can also use it to change their shape in one of two ways. Either they can become a will-o-the-wisp, either they become a “Colt pixie”. A Colt pixie is the name given to a pixie in the shape of a horse or pony. A scruffy, ragged and pale beast, the Colt pixie’s only preoccupation is to lead travelers and livestock away into the wilds (which is why it was associated with the will-of-the-wisp). Puck (see my post about him) was notably renowned for often taking the same of a Colt pixie. In fact, Puck (also called Pugg, or Tom Puck) was said to be one of the three most famous pixies, alongside Watt (a pixie who offered witches magical powers) and Lazy Laurence (renowned for protecting orchards and guarding cider). New Forest pixies were said to have a king ruling over them – but people disagree as to whether this king is Gran Collin (who was said to be a “giant pixie”, appearing larger than a human being) or his twin brother “Tiddie Cole” (the size of a thumb, so a dwarf pixie).
The big “rivalling” tradition is the one from the Devon regions, where pixies are also a very big thing. Devon pixies’ size range from so small you can’t see them with your bare eyes, to roughly human in stature, but the main difference between them and the New Forest pixies is that, while the New Forest pixies are quite “wild”, the Devon pixies are more “domesticated”. They still are mischievous spirits of the wildlands – they like to ride on the Dartmoor colts at night, they gather to dance and make music, they use magic to mislead travelers through the moors (this is a spell called “being pixy-led” and the only way to break it is to put your coat inside-out), and they are also said to lure children into playing with them by disguising themselves as a simple, inoffensive bundle of rags… But unlike the New Forest pixies, the Devon pixies can select friendly humans or ones in need (poor humans or widows for example) and decide to help them, usually by doing their house-chores. Similarly pixies can be “paid” for their chores, or be attracted to a house, or strike a friendship with a human, in exchange of offerings of clothes, food, or milk (the favorite beverage of all the fair folk of England).
Beyond these two main regional traditions, there are other smaller local ones. For example in Cornwall, the pixies are said to be ruled by a queen: the famous Cornish figure of Joan the Wad. “Wad” was a morn meaning “torch”, and this was because she was a type of “will-o-the-wisp” spirit, said to be married to none other than Jack-o-Lantern, another famous “light in the night” spirit. However unlike the will-of-the-wisps that usually lead people astray, Joan the Wad was much more benevolent: she guided lost people on the moors when the weather was bad, and she brought good luck to all those she encountered (even though she was also sometimes said to tickle people until they go mad…). Joan the Wad connection to good luck was so strong that, for a long time, people of Cornwall wore on their person little figures of Joan the Wad as good-luck talismans, or depicted her face on doorknobs to protect the house from evil spirits. Another local tradition comes from Somerset, where pixies and fairies were said to have been enemies – they waged a great battle against each other at Buckland St. Mary. They fairies lost and fled the area forever, but the pixies won and this is why they still hang out near the village.
One particular celebration deserves to be noted: an East Devon holiday, called “Pixie Day”, on the Saturday nearest to Midsummer. Starting in 1954 and localized in the town of Ottery St. Mary, it is actually a yearly celebration of an old legend tied to the town’s church bells. According to the legend, in the times where Christianity was still fresh and new in England, a bishop decided to build a church in the town of Otteri – he had magnificent, beautiful iron bells prepared in Wales and asked monks to make an escort to bring them to the town, out of fear they would be damaged in any way. The pixies however ruled the lands of Otteri, and knew that if these bells ever rung, they would lose their power over the region, so they cast a spell on the monks carrying the bells, changing their road so they would walk towards the cliffs of Sidmouth instead of towards Otteri. However, as the monks were about to throw themselves into the sea, one of them stubbed his toe on a rock. As it was the custom back then, he invoked the name of God (though in a much more polite form than today’s “God damnit!”), and this broke the spell of the pixies. The bells were brought to Otteri, but the pixies were not ready to give up. They stole away the bell-ringer of the church, and imprisoned him in a riverside cave where they dwell, called the “Pixies’ Parlour”. The vicar of the town had to go and rescue the poor stolen victim – and it is this battle that the town celebrates yearly. Each year on Pixie Day, boys and girls (from Cub Scouts and Brownies Girl Guides) dress up as pixies and steal away the bell-ringers of the church of Saint Mary – they don’t bring them to the actual Pixies Parlour cave, but rather to another church near Caanan park, and there a theatrical re-enactment of the vicar banishing the pixies happen.
- - - - - - -
The thing with the Pixies is that, just like with the fairies, there was a clear divide between their original depiction (as described above) and their “Victorian self”, built out of the works of artists and poets of the Victorian era. At this point, the pixies gained their most famous “sprite” attributes. People began depicting them as very, very small, finger-sized smalls, with pointy ears, and they also gave them green outfits and green pointy caps. Pixies began to be treated as entirely positive and wonderful little folks – curing all illnesses, blessing marriages to be fertile, helping win the heart of the one you love, able to “walk upon water and sail upon the land”, being friends with the wild animals and loving humans with all their heart… Pixies began to be depicted as ageless, deathless beings eternally young and happy, unable to feel sadness or fear – though some of the slightly creepier elements of their old “folkloric” self still stayed – for example the fact that if sometimes they marry a human, it is not so much out of love than out of the desire to “stealing their soul” (there is a whole thing about fairy folks not having souls and wishing to gain one), to how the pixies are actually “not bless nor banned”, aka not belonging to either Heaven or Hell, in-between, neutral spirits neither angels nor demons. It is also around the Victorian times that there was once again much debate and confusion as to whether pixies were different from fairies, or rather were the same thing.
[But as you will note so far, there is nothing about pixies having wings or flying – this is an invention of modern-day fiction.]
A very fun fact: you know about the famous story “The Three Little Pigs”? Well, its oldest recorded version comes from the Devon, and doesn’t show three “little pigs”… But three “little pixies”. And the villain isn’t a wolf, but a fox. It is thought that the confusion from “pixies” to “pigs” is due to one of the alternate ways to write the name of the small magical folk, which is “pigsies” and sounds a lot like “pigs” in plural.
16th July >> Mass Readings (Except USA)
Fifteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time, Cycle A.
(Liturgical Colour: Green: A (1))
First Reading Isaiah 55:10-11 The word that goes out from my mouth does not return to me empty.
Thus says the Lord: ‘As the rain and the snow come down from the heavens and do not return without watering the earth, making it yield and giving growth to provide seed for the sower and bread for the eating, so the word that goes from my mouth does not return to me empty, without carrying out my will and succeeding in what it was sent to do.’
The Word of the Lord
R/ Thanks be to God.
Responsorial Psalm Psalm 64(65):10-14
R/ Some seed fell into rich soil and produced its crop.
You care for the earth, give it water, you fill it with riches. Your river in heaven brims over to provide its grain.
R/ Some seed fell into rich soil and produced its crop.
And thus you provide for the earth; you drench its furrows; you level it, soften it with showers; you bless its growth.
R/ Some seed fell into rich soil and produced its crop.
You crown the year with your goodness. Abundance flows in your steps, in the pastures of the wilderness it flows.
R/ Some seed fell into rich soil and produced its crop.
The hills are girded with joy, the meadows covered with flocks, the valleys are decked with wheat. They shout for joy, yes, they sing.
R/ Some seed fell into rich soil and produced its crop.
Second Reading Romans 8:18-23 The whole creation is eagerly waiting for God to reveal his sons.
I think that what we suffer in this life can never be compared to the glory, as yet unrevealed, which is waiting for us. The whole creation is eagerly waiting for God to reveal his sons. It was not for any fault on the part of creation that it was made unable to attain its purpose, it was made so by God; but creation still retains the hope of being freed, like us, from its slavery to decadence, to enjoy the same freedom and glory as the children of God. From the beginning till now the entire creation, as we know, has been groaning in one great act of giving birth; and not only creation, but all of us who possess the first-fruits of the Spirit, we too groan inwardly as we wait for our bodies to be set free.
The Word of the Lord
R/ Thanks be to God.
Gospel Acclamation 1 Samuel 3:9, John 6:68
Alleluia, alleluia! Speak, Lord, your servant is listening: you have the message of eternal life. Alleluia!
Or:
Alleluia, alleluia! The seed is the word of God, Christ the sower; whoever finds this seed will remain for ever. Alleluia!
Either:
Gospel Matthew 13:1-23 A sower went out to sow.
Jesus left the house and sat by the lakeside, but such large crowds gathered round him that he got into a boat and sat there. The people all stood on the beach, and he told them many things in parables. He said, ‘Imagine a sower going out to sow. As he sowed, some seeds fell on the edge of the path, and the birds came and ate them up. Others fell on patches of rock where they found little soil and sprang up straight away, because there was no depth of earth; but as soon as the sun came up they were scorched and, not having any roots, they withered away. Others fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked them. Others fell on rich soil and produced their crop, some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty. Listen, anyone who has ears!’
Then the disciples went up to him and asked, ‘Why do you talk to them in parables?’ ‘Because’ he replied, ‘the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven are revealed to you, but they are not revealed to them. For anyone who has will be given more, and he will have more than enough; but from anyone who has not, even what he has will be taken away. The reason I talk to them in parables is that they look without seeing and listen without hearing or understanding. So in their case this prophecy of Isaiah is being fulfilled:
You will listen and listen again, but not understand, see and see again, but not perceive. For the heart of this nation has grown coarse, their ears are dull of hearing, and they have shut their eyes, for fear they should see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their heart, and be converted and be healed by me.
‘But happy are your eyes because they see, your ears because they hear! I tell you solemnly, many prophets and holy men longed to see what you see, and never saw it; to hear what you hear, and never heard it.
‘You, therefore, are to hear the parable of the sower. When anyone hears the word of the kingdom without understanding, the evil one comes and carries off what was sown in his heart: this is the man who received the seed on the edge of the path. The one who received it on patches of rock is the man who hears the word and welcomes it at once with joy. But he has no root in him, he does not last; let some trial come, or some persecution on account of the word, and he falls away at once. The one who received the seed in thorns is the man who hears the word, but the worries of this world and the lure of riches choke the word and so he produces nothing. And the one who received the seed in rich soil is the man who hears the word and understands it; he is the one who yields a harvest and produces now a hundredfold, now sixty, now thirty.’
The Gospel of the Lord
R/ Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.
Or:
Gospel Matthew 13:1-9 A sower went out to sow.
Spirit Tracks - oneshot
Spirit tracks means so much to me, it’s such a fun game and I love how Zelda is your companion. It makes her and Link’s relationship so interesting, and I love how much they care about each other :)
Also no way Zelda was okay after being a ghost for so long. no way.
Ao3 link
————————————————————
Ever since Zelda had been a ghost, sometimes she’d get days like this.
She’d wake up and feel oddly distant from everything the moment her eyes opened, disconnected from her body even though she knew she was in it. She’d take a deep breath and prepare herself for a long day, then put on her itchiest dress in an effort to feel something.
In addition to that she’d pinch her arms, cross her knees if she was able to get away with it, and constantly squeeze her wrists, trying to convince her brain that yes, she was still in her body, thank you very much. It usually worked well enough for her to get through whatever her plans were for the day, until she could retreat back to her room and wait it out in private.
But not today.
Today her usual tricks weren’t working, the disconnect only seeming to grow worse and worse. And the longer Teacher went on about whatever he was saying, the more distant and murky Zelda felt.
She hadn’t told anyone about the days she felt off. It seemed silly to worry everyone about a problem that usually went away after a little while, and so far hadn’t been much of an issue. If Link was around he would sometimes catch her pinching her arm and give her hand a squeeze, but he was currently on the opposite side of the table from her, jotting notes and doodles on the papers in front of him.
Normally she’d peer around and try to see what he was drawing. But she was feeling more wrong by the second, like she was floating in place, unable to feel the chair under her or the floor beneath her feet.
Link didn’t typically sit in on her meetings, but this one happened to pertain more towards his area of expertise, and Zelda always valued his opinions. And hearing the ideas he’d always think of both during and afterwards always fascinated her as well. Link would always find some angle she hadn’t considered, and was amazing at finding seemingly simple solutions to things.
But today Zelda could barely focus on herself.
She breathed in shakily, and pinched her arm again, even though she couldn’t feel it at all. The councilman who was now speaking’s voice was nothing but a faint static in her ears, and her throat seemed tight, squeezing all the way down to her chest.
Come on Zelda, she begged herself as the numbness and panic spread. You’re okay, you’re okay you’re not a ghost again you’re okay—
Link happened to glance up and catch her eye, and his face went from one of slight boredom to concern almost immediately.
He tilted his head and gave her a look that silently said are you okay? and Zelda quickly gave him a nod, ignoring how she was positively freezing and numb, and the sensation was only spreading the longer she sat here.
Link did not seem convinced.
“Zelda, are you all right?” he asked out loud, interrupting Teacher and sending the table into silence as her council members all turned to look at her. She swallowed, clenching her fists ridiculously tight even though she couldn’t feel them, and gave a nod she tried to keep natural.
“I’m fine,” she said calmly, trying to hide the fact that she was pretty sure she was shaking, and her breath had started to come faster because she couldn’t feel herself breathing, and it was sending panic rising up in her chest but she couldn’t feel it—
She blinked and suddenly Link was by her side, looking into her eyes with an expression equally scared and concerned.
“Zelda, what’s wrong, are you okay?” he asked, voice worried, but when she opened her mouth to answer him all that came out was a panicked squeak.
Her limbs felt cold and numb, almost like they’d all simultaneously fallen asleep, and she swallowed for what must have been the hundredth time as she tried to stay calm. It had never gotten this bad before, not since she actually was a ghost.
What if it was somehow happening again?
What if something was pulling her out of her body right now?!
Her next breath caught in her throat, and she pinched at her arm again, exerting as much force as she could but she still couldn’t feel it no matter how hard she pushed. Link was saying something but there was just buzzing in her ears and the numbness just kept spreading—
Then something pulled her hand off her arm, and she could feel it.
Zelda looked down in surprise, staring blankly at her hands. Link had taken both of them in his, and was holding them tight, carefully rubbing his thumbs along the backs.
“It’s okay Zelda, you’re okay. Can you take a deep breath?” he asked, voice sounding distant, but rather panicked.
Zelda tried, and managed to suck some air in, but she still felt distant, cold and disconnected. The only thing she could really feel was Link’s warm skin against hers, and she tried desperately to focus on it as she let the breath out.
She breathed in again, rather shakily, and Link continued to hold her hands in both of his, gently rubbing them.
“Okay, okay. Can you keep breathing for me Zelda? Please?” he asked, voice tense but gentle.
She managed a nod, and Link turned to one of the council members standing nearby, asking him something Zelda didn’t catch.
“Just keep breathing Zelda,” Link said softly as he turned back towards her, “You’re here, you’re in your body and not a ghost, I promise.” He continued to rub her hands. “Just focus on what you can feel, not what you can’t.”
Zelda focused, trying to zero in on what few sensations she was getting from her body. Link’s hands against hers were the most obvious, but she thought she could sort of feel her hair brushing her face as well.
“M-my hands,” she started with, and Link gave them an encouraging squeeze.
“Good, okay, anything else?”
“My... hair?”
Link nodded encouragingly.
She focused on herself again, ignoring the parts of her still terrifyingly numb and focusing intensely on what parts she could faintly feel.
“My arm,” she whispered next, looking down at the few drops of blood on her wrist. It was where she’d been pinching herself earlier, and she’d obviously scratched deeper than she meant.
“That’s good,” Link encouraged, voice still holding a flicker of fear. “What else?”
Zelda told him, and Link spent the next few minutes carefully coaching her through focusing on every little sensation she could feel. Zelda’s breathing had finally begun to slow, and she was starting to feel much better, grounded and safe by the time someone else crouched by her side, one of the healers who worked in the castle.
She smiled at Zelda as she began to look her over, and the princess felt herself calm as Link continued to rub her palms.
She felt more solidly inside herself the longer Link held her hands, and by the time the healer had finished her quick look-over, she felt nearly back to normal. Aside from the tiredness and slight headache she always got after one of these spells, anyway.
The healer, content now that Zelda wasn’t going to suddenly faint or anything, gave the princess a pat on the arm, stating that she wanted to give her a more thorough check up just in case there was something she’d missed. Zelda couldn’t really find the words to tell her it wasn’t anything she was going to be able to find, but allowed herself to be escorted over to the infirmary anyway.
Link continued to hold her hand the entire way there.
He finally had to relinquish his hold for a little while while the healer examined Zelda, but the moment she was finished he was back by her side, taking her hand and giving her a little smile as the woman left.
They were silent for a bit as he rubbed small circles onto her palm.
“All clear?” he finally asked, voice gentle, and Zelda scuffed her feet.
“Essentially. She wants me to rest for the remainder of the day, and get someone if I feel numb at all. But she said I appear physically fine,” Zelda sighed. “Aside from a scratch or two. Just a little stressed.”
Link hummed in reply, running a thumb across where she’d been pinching herself earlier. There was a small bandage covering the mark, and Link traced slowly over it, careful and gentle. His gaze turned to the rest of her then, and Zelda looked out the window, ignoring the way his eyes lingered on her face.
“How long has this been happening?” he finally asked, voice quiet.
Zelda swallowed. “Pretty much ever since... you know,” she whispered, and Link squeezed her hand. “It doesn’t happen too often though. Today was the worst it’s been... Usually I can press through it.”
Link’s face turned even more worried, and Zelda mentally kicked herself, not wanting to have made him more concerned. He continued to rub his thumbs along her hands, and the both of them were silent for several long moments.
Until Link suddenly bobbed his head up, meeting her eyes with a determined look.
“I think you need to get away for a little while. Get out of this stuffy castle,” he declared with a determined voice.
Zelda blinked. “Get away?” she asked him in confusion, and his eyes twinkled.
“Want to go for a train ride, Princess?”
 (...)
Despite the fact that the sun was already low in the sky and Zelda was exhausted from her spell, she eagerly agreed, and they set out at once in Link’s train.
They traveled across the grasslands in silence, Zelda staying up in the engine next to him. She didn’t bother asking where they were headed, knowing he likely already had somewhere in mind. And she was proven right when Link pulled the train to a stop at a little out-of-the-way station by the ocean, a few solitary gulls crying above their heads.
He knew how much she loved the sea.
Link gestured her out with a small grin, and the two of them walked over onto the sand, kicking off their shoes and stopping just shy of where the quiet waves were lapping onto the shore.
They stood there in silence for a long time, Link’s hand warm in hers as the waves spilled onto the sand. The sun had just barely sunk below the horizon, and the world was cast in the indigo light of dusk as they sat down, still silently observing the beach.
Zelda looked up at the single star that had so far revealed itself, and let out a small sigh.
“Thank you for bringing me out here Link,” she said quietly, breaking the silence. “You were right, I needed it. And I... I’m sorry if I scared you earlier.”
Link kept his hand in hers, the feel of his palm against her skin gentle and grounding.
“Yeah... a little,” he admitted after a moment, and she looked over at him, his brown eyes warm in the dusky light. “I’m glad you’re feeling better. I just... wish you’d said something before. We could’ve helped you sooner. Could’ve been helping you sooner. Then maybe today... it wouldn’t have been so bad.”
Zelda let out a slow breath, looking out over the rapidly-darkening waves that crashed against the shore.
“I’m sorry.”
“I know.”
The last bit of the sun’s light finally faded away, and Zelda watched more stars begin to shine into view, a handful of constellations now visible. A cool breeze brushed past, and she shivered, glad she could feel it, but also wishing she’d brought a cloak.
Link obviously noticed though, and scooted up closer to her. A light blush tickled her cheeks, but she indulged in the hint, leaning against him and letting her head fall onto his shoulder.
“Thank you again, Link,” she whispered.
Link nodded, and hesitated before carefully putting his arm around her shoulder. Zelda froze in surprise, then relaxed, his arm warm and comforting.
They stayed there like that for a long time, silently watching the stars.
