Good morning. I’m writing about if you also happen to rescue Juggalos? They are an often overlooked breed (often called “mutts” by some snobs, but I digress) and there are many that I see without proper care.

Long Answer:

I wholeheartedly agree, Juggalos (homo insanus), not to be confused with Jugglers (homo coordinatius), are often neglected or stigmatized breeds of clown, so they’ve evolved to survive in much more hostile environments.

The most important thing to note about the care of Juggalos is that they naturally have a pack mentality. During their social seasons (usually summer) they will call out to others of their breed (this is the common whooping sound you will hear from them) in order to form a Gathering of the Juggalos, leading to them forming different hunting packs (called Posses) that they remain fiercely loyal to.

Thus, at the International Clown Rescue Sanctuary, we make a strong effort to keep Juggalos with their Posse and allow them ample space to gather, whoop, and follow their instincts safely.

As party season approaches, it must be re stated that adopting a party clown just for summer birthdays and holidays is a bad idea.

If the adoption is souly for the sake of entertainment for such events it is inevitable that care towards the living breathing creature will dwindle after the season is over, and scary clowns and harlequins "come into season"

Clowns do not have seasons, they are a responsibility year round.

What milestones should clowns get to by each age on average? My research also said that they should be a year old and are able to be away from their mother but I'm confused about that, like would they still be a baby and are able to be away from mom or would they be full grown and be able to be away from mom? My clown just had a litter of chucklings and I want to make sure I'm doing this right

Hello! Thank you so much for the ask! I understand the confusion as the early stages of chuckling development go quite slowly and so it seems like a year could never be enough time for this small creature to mature enough to be separated from it's mother. Normally they're still entirely reliant on the mother for at least six months, with it taking a full four weeks for a jesters eyes to open, and eight weeks for your average scarer's teeth to sharpen up. But i do assure you by the end of the year they will be up and blabbering about the place doing tricks and whatnot. Development stages vary greatly on your breed, but just to give you a general idea. Scare clowns, mimes, and white-face clowns are born with open eyes. Jesters, rodeo clowns, will have their eyes open up within the first 4 weeks. It may take up to five, if it takes longer then that it could be a sign of a medical issue. Scare clowns and jesters are born with no teeth or significantly dulled teeth. In the case of jesters they should have grown in fully by 5 weeks. Scare clowns teeth sharpen by 8 weeks. I am not aware of other clowns with that sort of pattern. but I believe mimes have baby teeth and grownup teeth. Baby teeth should start falling out at around 12-16 weeks. Growing back *fully* by 20-24 week mark. (That is a bit of a side note - mimes can take a little longer to fully develop. due to the way they were "domesticated" they have some health issues as well) Most clowns should be fully able to feed themselves by the 24 week mark, with again the exception of mimes. But even mimes *should* be able to eat by then. They'll start performing tricks at the youngest at about 10 weeks. At the oldest around 30 weeks. Longer then that can be a sign of lack of enrichment or depression. Chuckling and guffawing and other such noises start generally either from 0-12 weeks depending on breed. Normally they start cleaning themselves at around 5 months old. Overall, by a year for most clowns, you clown should be playing tricks, eating, taking care of their own hygiene, making noises, and running around. They are still quite young don't get me wrong, it's sort of like an 8 week old kitten. Quite young, still a baby, but old enough that it can be separated from it's parent. There are some studies coming out that say 2 years across the board is better for socializing chucklings, I'm not personally a clown breeder, I used to work for a shelter but I didn't often get to see those clowns full development, so I can't say which is better. But that's what some newer studies are saying. The general average lifecycle for a clown is 0-1 Infant (dependent on mum) 1-5 Child (Somewhat Independent) 5-10- Adolescent (Beginning to fully mature) 10-15. This is debated. I would say they're only fully matured at 15, but some people like to argue as young as 10. (Well some really shitty farms like to argue younger then that but fuck them) 15-30. Adult clown 30+ senior. I hope this helps and is cohesive, I've had quite the long day so apologies for any spelling mistakes. I hope your chucklings do well in the world. This is Molly, our mascot here at WildChild shelters.

As much as we adore her, she isn't a mascot because of her disposition, or even her coloration.

The sad fact is she is unable to be safely adopted due to her lineage.

Female mimes should only be breed to other quiet or preferably silent breeds. (If one can not be persuaded against breed a female mime to a noisy breed or such happens accidently socialization is key)

Molly's father was half weeping and half giggling clown. (exact mix hidden to prevent dangerous breeding)

Due to Molly's tendency to both sob and laugh frequently her mother rejected her. After being rejected she was left in a box on the highway.

This has made Molly very insecure, resulting in her needing round the clock company, very unlike most mimes to whom such intensive care would be stressfull.

The fact is correct interactions during formative years from both care takers and parents is especially important in all clowns, and that includes breeding safely and responsibly.

The humans said "We sent our very best to the stars."

Well we looked at what they sent: And thought, if that's their best, what are their worst like? They were scavengers and opportunists, fast talking con artists, barely restrained psychopaths with mayhem on their mind.

Honestly we were expecting the worst: That 'human' would be a curse word, that we'd have to root them out painfully and banish them back to their dirty heavy world.

But they cleaned up Antichor. They dredged the oceans, got the ecosystem back up, cleaned the mine lakes, remediated the sludge swamps, turned the hulks into gleaming ingots.

"We knew how. We had the experience." They said.

The humans started showing up in the weirdest places. Conflicts of all sorts... and they always had questions. "Why are you doing this? What if tehy did this. What if you did that?" And it was so odd - Within weeks of the Humans showing up, common ground would be found, or reasons to get along would appear.

"Well, we're used to it. We know how to deal with conflict." They said.

And the human liars, dressed in bedazzling clothes, singing and laughing... They spun lies! For entertainment! Of better worlds, and drama, of excitement, of adventure. Thay made such spectacles - Fire in the sky of a thousand colours - smoke and lasers, costumes and music, feats of synchronised movement the Civil Worlds had barely imagined could be performed by any being let lone these strange humans...

"We know how to have a good time!" They said.

When there was a nasty little war of expansion over on the Veran worlds, we thought we'd be barely in time to document the mass graves and the scraps of planetary genocide. Expansion wars are the worst of crimes but what can you do? The settlers who are squatting on the graves of the people who came before aren't usually the ones who ordered the invasion or carried it out. And there's always some justification that can be argued over for centuries: none of which brings the dead back.

We were horrified to find the Human fleet there. Finally proof that the Humans were the worst sort of mercenary.

But the ships had aid: Shelters and food. Medical personnel. And those that did fight did so under strange rules that allowed for surrenders and retreats in good faith.

The Verans talked of the Arnath Invasion fleet: Unstoppable, claiming thier worlds before they even landed, their leaders ranting and cursing those who lived there - But then the Humans arriving like heroes of legend, in flame clad dropships, spending their lives hard, making the Arnath throw incredible effort to get nowhere... Of the mighty Rangers, each one a hero. The Bulwark infantry who wouldn't yield a single step until the civilians had been evacuated. The Medical teams as caring as any, who'd stand and fight as hard as a soldier to protect their patients.

And even before we arrived, the Arnath were losing - Humans arriving on their world and asking "Why?". Arguing with the Archons with the skill of philosophers, litigating on behalf of the Verans with cunning arguments. The clowns and entertainers with unexpected savagery, showing the population their own "heroic" soldiers burning crops and firing on children, turning the population against thier bloody handed leaders.

The soldiers returning, not hailed as heroes, their crimes documented.

"We know these crimes. We won't stand for them." The humans said.

And we started to wonder... what else did they know?

What we know now is... you can always ask the Humans, because they always send their best.
