♣️Trey: (looks at the kitchen wall splattered with eggs and green ooze)

♣️Trey: (looks at the stove buried under a pile of licorice pieces and leaking black smoke)

♣️Trey: (looks at Yuu and Lilia covered in flour and noodles) …What happened here??

🦐Yuu: In our defense, Lilia said he could make the cake bake itself and I really wanted to see that.

♣️Trey: You were trying to make a cake?!

🦇Lilia: Khee hee~! I suppose I got a bit carried away with this particular spell. Not to worry though! I'll put everything right back the way we found it! (starts cleaning the kitchen with magic)

♣️Trey: Don't push yourself too hard Lilia. You already spent a lot of magic doing… (gestures to the chaos around them) this.

🦇Lilia: (smiles mysteriously and continues cleaning) Oh, this is still just me messing around. One of these days, you'll see the true essence of my magic.

♣️Trey: …..

🦐Yuu: (whispering to Trey) Psst! Cheer up, Trey! Now we don't have to eat any of the cake Lilia was planning to make.

Pokémon Grounding Ritual

Hey, everyone! It’s Clover, and, as per the results of the poll, the next blog topic is my Pokémon Grounding Technique! And I have to say, this is a good thing to write about now, specifically, since a lot of stuff went down IRL—and I’ll definitely need to ground and recenter myself soon.

So grab your bag, your favorite Pokémon, and your Pokédex as we talk about how I use one of my favorite media franchises in my practice!

Psychology and Witchcraft: A Quick Background Discussion

Okay, so before we go on our journey to be the very best like no one ever was, a quick discussion on how I use psychology in my practice is necessary for background knowledge.

In my witchcraft practice, I use the idea that spell work and ritual can help you calm down and focus on a problem at hand. In doing things with your hands and with the set intention of helping you out with X,Y, or Z, you are creating a space in your brain to look at the problem from a new perspective. This new perspective then helps you solve the problem since not only is your headspace calm, but, also, doing the spell diverts your consciousness from the problem at hand—which then allows your unconscious mind to work through it a bit better and help find a solution through processing all the information you have gathered.

I mainly use this approach to witchcraft through grounding techniques, like making Tea or playing Pokémon. The ability to use my hands and distract my brain helps a lot to calm me down and look at problems or situations through a new perspective—mainly a calm one.

Pokémon specifically comes in handy when I’m overstimulated, exhausted, and miserable. I work two jobs, and one of them has various different types of lights of various levels of brightness and warmth. This lack of uniformity causes a migraine due to photosensitivity and it only gets compounded by the store being wall-to-wall with customers on Sundays. So I start feeling overwhelmed and jittery and not okay. I need to escape and to ground all the excess energy.

So… I hid in the girl’s bathroom, turned on my emulator, lowered the brightness and played GBA rom hacks and fan games of Pokémon.

And that’s where my little ritual began.

Now, let’s actually talk Pokémon ritualistic grounding.

Pokémon Grounding Ritual

The actual ritual itself is very simple and adaptable to your specific needs. Remember, what works for me may not work for you and what works for you may not work for Tyson down the street and what works for Tyson may not work for his partner. In witchcraft, Pop Culture Witchcraft especially, a lot of it requires researching (cultural/historical contexts, open versus closed practices, other people’s paths, etc.) and then trial and error.

For me, the Pokémon Grounding Ritual works as such:

I hide in the bathroom, my room, or another solitary place. Double points if it’s dark and quiet.

I boot up my Delta Emulator app on my phone.

I let my intuition guide me on picking out a Pokémon game to continue playing—and this is the most important step because I am usually too overwhelmed to think. So, by going on autopilot, I am allowing myself to slowly start coming down from overstimulation or anxiety.

I play and allow myself to focus on the game for about five or ten minutes (more depending on how overwhelmed I feel and where I am). And I let my inner self decide when it’s ready to rejoin the world—which is usually after a battle or two.

Repeat when necessary.

Allowing my excess energy to have a focus is why this really works. I am taking all this pent up, uncomfortable energy and putting it into action physically by moving my hands and letting the calming surroundings of my favorite video game franchise bring me back to myself. When I’m home, if I’ve had an overwhelming day, I usually do this by working on my Arthurian Grimoire project you’ve seen me post on my main blog or make tea. But I can’t exactly pull out my craft kit or my teapot whenever I’m out and overwhelmed.

Psychological-Techno magick is great for on the go because I always have my phone on me in case of emergency. So I will always have Pokémon with me.

We aren’t even at the halfway mark, but here is a snippet nonetheless. It’s going to probably change somewhat by the time this scene appears in bolos because editing and plotbunnies shifting constantly, but here you go!

“But I think there’s someone else you should say sorry to.”

Max chews on his bottom lip, guilt joining the drying tears in his eyes as he looks down to avoid Alec’s gaze. His hands are clenched into fists, arms clutching Bubbles like a lifeline before he gives a small, hesitant nod.

“Alright, then let’s go.”

Alec pushes himself to his feet, careful not lose his balance as he turns around as holds out a hand to his little brother. 

Max curls up further.

“Max?”

“Can I go up?” Max asks in a whisper. His words are muffled into Bubbles’ soft face, barely recognizable except for how well Alec knows Max and how often he’s heard that request over the years.

“Always.”

Alec knows he’s going to be hearing from Catarina later for carrying Max all the way to the orphanage. Knows Izzy and Jace will give him shit for it as well, but with trembling arms and a too-small frame wrapped around him like he’s going to disappear any second, Alec can’t bring himself to care.

Little Max turns away when they enter the room.

“Hey Blueberry,” Alec greets as he places Max down on the ground. “There’s someone hear to see you.”

In a painful repeat of earlier, Little Max wraps his arms more tightly around Carrot, hiding his face away from Alec and Max.

Max looks at him uncertainly, his eyes red-rimmed and swollen from crying. He’s being quiet and hesitant, guilt visible on his face again before he quietly shuffled over to Max.

“Max,” he whispers, crouching down to sit next to Little Max. “I- I’m sorry I was mean.  I didn’t mean it. I was just - I was sad and…and scared.”

“Max not scary,” Little Max protests sniffly, repeating one of the first things he ever said to Alec and Alec wants to hug both of them. Wants to wrap them in his arms and keep them away from any sort of pain.

“I wasn’t scared of you,” Max assures him. He still looks guilty, shame still visible on his face though Alec sees the first traces of hope as well. “I …I was scared Alec loves you more than me. I’m sorry.”

They don’t speak for a little while before Max decides to change the topic. “This…this is Bubbles,” he says, holding out Bubbles. “He’s five.”

Little Max suddenly looks over at him, his eyes puffy and purple and Alec walks over to give him a hug when his hand stretches out in that way that never fails to warm his heart. He still doesn’t speak, hiding his face in Alec’s chest before finally, after a couple of minutes, he holds out Carrot toward Max.

“Carrot.”

Max smiles, soft and hesitant but there.

“Hello Carrot. It’s nice to meet you.” Little Max peeks from underneath Alec’s arms, still looking upset and sniffly but not longer heartbroken the way he was earlier.

“It’s also nice to meet someone with the best name like me” Max offers timidly, hiding his face behind Bubbles to make it look like he’s the one speaking.

A small hesitant giggle.

Bolstered by the sound Max, lowers Bubbles again, meeting Little Max’s gaze head-on. “Do-do your want to play? Or do puzzles?”

Patty/Patience:

Youngest to enter the underground! Fell because of an abusive family and just wanting out of their terrible home life.

Stayed with Toriel the longest. Was weary of her at first because of aforementioned terrible home life, gave her their old ribbon and toy knife as a "peace offering" gift (Toriel later loses them on accident, resulting in Frisk being able to find them later on)

Made it to Asgore but didn't last long against him.

Bodi/Bravery:

Small gremlin he/they who keeps getting into situations. Fell because he (stupidly) took a dare to climb Mt. Ebbot to see if the monsters were there

Loses both their bandana AND one of their gloves while running through Snowdin (QC finds both and sells them to Frisk)

Only made it to Asgore on a whim and a lot of dueling people (no one is killed he just challenges people at random). Bodi actually put up a bit of a fight against him! Still didn't win, though.

Katherine/Kindness:

A young orphan who just wanted to help the monsters! Didn't really have much of a home to leave anyway.

Loses their pan on accident in Hotland, and then left her apron behind after it took one too many blows making it essentially unwearable to her

Didn't want to fight Asgore, so she figured she'd just help the monsters cause by giving up their SOUL!

Iris/Integrity:

Katherine's older sibling who journeyed to Mt. Ebbot after their sister went missing. Unlike her, they don't share their kind sentiment on monsters.

Most of their crimes in the underground were PURELY of self defense. They do feel a bit of guilt for the stuff they did.

Died to Axis after causing the Snowdin Incident. Their tutu and ballet shoes were hidden to "hide the evidence".

Fritz/Perseverance:

The first of the group to have Flowey accompany them on their journey! Ran away from home after dealing with bullies and a neglectful family and tripped on accident.

The only one of the group with actual progress on their journey written. It's called "Undertale Purple" and will be divulged on more here the more I have done for it!

Left her notebook and (stupidly) her glasses outside of the throne room before confronting (and losing to) Asgore. Gerson finds them later and sells them to Frisk

Ends up being Clover's narrator during UTY! It's a HC a mutual of mine made and I love the idea sm that I adopted it as canon to Fritz's story!

My main blog, the Cottage, was getting kinda cramped and cluttered so I decided all my blogs on witchcraft will be posted here from now on while the main blog will mainly be used as a living room with all my eclectic interests as Knick-nacks.
