23. Do They Get Lonely Easily?

No. Kit deals with isolation well when it happens, finding herself quite happy with just herself, her daemon and her surroundings. The majority of her time is spent with Lee and Hester, but she’s fully capable of striking out on her own and spending months alone without feeling alone. If she had to be alone anywhere, she’d choose to be alone in a forest

Oof. Several. Some of the cloudpine that grows over her collarbones has been removed. She’s missing two-and-a-half fingers. There’s a scar going up her forearm that she got from a Tartar’s axe and another on her other arm from a barfight in Trollesund. There are the little nicks and scratches that are bound to happen considering the job she has and the father she had and there are...some upcoming scars that I’m not going to mention because those chapters haven’t come out yet

77. What Is Their Most Prized Possession?

Kit doesn’t really get attached to possessions. She has a favourite scarf, a yellow one Lee gave to her on her birthday and that she gave to Lyra on the way to Bolvangar and never saw again. She is somewhat attached to her gun, but that was taken away from her on Nova Zembla. She likes a charcoal-coloured jumper with long sleeves and a high neck that hides all of her cloudpine, but it’s a jumper that Lee has a habit of...”borrowing” But she doesn’t “prize” and possessions, understanding that sooner or later she’ll lose them all Though after that spiel I’m going to add that I guess the balloon could count

Decided to do some art again so I kicked off with my pine needle child with the big ears. From left to right they’re is the GW2 iteration (Maguuma sylvari built from some poor explorer), James from a different personal verse, and the FFXIV iteration (They’re a viera raised Miqo rogue)

I took a deep breath. The secretary bird stepped up next to me, the top of his head gently bumping the right side of my ribs. "Are you ready?" he asked.

"As ready as I'll ever be," I murmured more to myself than to him.

We both looked over the edge of the jagged cliff. Below us were rocks and crashing waves of the ocean. The horizon was dim, not unlike the bottom of an empty steel pail. It was speckled with flashes of lightning, followed by its soulmate, the reverberations of thunder.

The clan had a long standing tradition of separation - stretching the link between one and one's soul. We were nervous, naturally. This was the best method I could think of. It was also one of the first times I would be attempting to fly my cloudpine after a big leap. Anticipation electrified every emotion and sensation I felt. I thought my heart would skip a beat, it was going so fast. Either we fly and have a successful ritual - or we die. If there was one thing I was sure about, it was that at least I wouldn't be alone.

My hands trembled as I scrambled to the very edge of the cliff, grasping at the cloudpine between my knees.

"You know how I fly. I'll need a bit of a running start." Saekjo called out behind him as he trotted farther and farther away until

"FUCK," We shouted in unison. The pain was near unbearable. I gritted my teeth and dug my fingers and palm further around the cloudpine, hoping for cuts and scrapes to take the edge of the sensation off. It didn't help. "Let's hope I don't faint." I laughed to myself. What a way to die.

I stumbled and fell over the edge and grasped so tightly onto the cloudpine I thought it may snap in half. My hair whipped around me and I screamed on the fall down. Impact would be close now, but the fear and adrenaline from the fall kickstarted my brain and caused me to open my eyes. The tear, the stretch, whatever we had to call it - was done. I situated myself onto the cloudpine as I had seen my clan sisters do, and willed it to balance. A few feet above ground, and instead of falling, we began to fly. We?

I automatically turned my head upwards. The secretary bird was also in the sky, doing aerial dives but continuing to stay the extra distance away that we could never do before. My heart swelled with joy and pride at us. We had done it. I veered the pine upwards toward him, and eventually caught up. The speed was faster than horse travel, at least. "Shall we go celebrate?" I asked.

My daemon twirled elegantly as he allowed me to come close. The bond was still there and we trusted each other more than ever. "Do you feel it? Let's continue here for a little longer."

Eyes closed, the sensations began to filter in. I hadn't realized it until now, before the ceremony there was far too much on my mind, but he was right. The wind sang to our skin, the sunlight warmed our breath, the clouds briskly kissed our face. It felt amazing. And it was no wonder to me, at that moment, that only those with bird daemons who were witches, could fly. It was important to be able to experience this sensation as one.

After some minutes of soaking it all in, a shadow passed over my face. Saekjo's large wingspan. He clacked his beak. "가자. 갑시다."

I stuck my tongue out. Let's go, let's go. I followed him all the way to camp.
