Emphasis is on the use of the hamstring or knee flexion to rock over ... a very relevant exercise progression after isolated strength training for the hamstring muscle for a climber. In this video we have added a 10kg weight to add an additional overload for the hamstring, calf and core muscles. There are no short cuts when rehabilitating someone after a chronic injury... time invested in rehabilitation is time well spent. Yesterday during my climbing session, I bruised my hand. I was on a climb that probably would have been easy for me if I hadn’t hung out on one move too long. •• I was gripping a large hold and then it felt like my whole hand was full of electricity. Not great. I was bummed, but, honestly, the metaphor was just a little too on the nose. •• How do you bruise your hand? You hold on to something too tightly. Ugh. The message from the Universe came in loud and clear! I GET IT! •• I’ve been working on a lot of new stuff and have been really trying to make things happen and move things a long all with my brute strength. I’ve been holding on a little too tight, and yesterday was a great reminder to loosen up a little bit. •• I finished my climbing session working on problems where I could grip the holds gently as to not further hurt my hand and I was amazed at how much I could still do. Turns out I don’t have to keep a death grip on my life for things to work out okay. Who’d a thunk it?! Haha. •• How do you practice holding things lightly? No surgery! I get the cast off in 4 weeks to see if everything has healed properly. Then, a boot for 2 months. I'm really hoping those extra bones I decided to add fuse back properly. Lower limb injuries occur in climbing as well as other sports. A well designed rehabilitation programme must take account of the clients need to continue to participate in their chosen sport. The injury should be look at as a window of opportunity to develop and improve other aspects of physical performance which are often neglected because of time constrains or poor focus.
