The cold front is moving across the East this morning and that front is putting an end to the extreme warmth the last few days. A storm will cut across the West and into the Plains this weekend. That storm may bring tornadoes to the Plains and moderate snows to the Front Range of the Rockies. Denver is going to see some snow this weekend.

What Was The Impact Of The Libya Floods?
Tumblr media
On September 4, 2023, Storm Daniel, a Mediterranean tropical-like cyclone, made landfall in Libya.
The storm brought heavy rainfall to the region, which caused two dams to collapse and sent floodwaters surging through the city of Derna.
The Libya floods were a devastating event, killing over 5,000 people and displacing tens of thousands more.
Entire neighborhoods were swept away, and infrastructure was severely damaged.
The floods also caused a humanitarian crisis, as many people were left without food, water, or shelter.
In this blog post, we will examine the impact of the Libya floods, including the human, economic, and environmental impacts.
We will also discuss the lessons that can be learned from the floods and the steps that can be taken to reduce the loss of life and property in future events.
The Libya floods are a stark reminder of the devastating impact that extreme weather events can have on vulnerable communities.
As climate change continues to fuel more extreme weather events, it is important to invest in adaptation and resilience measures to protect people and infrastructure from harm.
The Devastating Consequences Of The 2023 Libya Floods
The Libya Floods Of September 2023 Were A Devastating Event That Had A Profound Impact On The Country.
The floods were caused by Storm Daniel, a Mediterranean tropical-like cyclone that brought heavy rainfall to the region.
The rains caused two dams to collapse, sending floodwaters surging through the city of Derna.
The impact of the floods was devastating. Over 5,000 people were killed, and tens of thousands more were displaced.
Entire neighborhoods were swept away, and infrastructure was severely damaged. The floods also caused a humanitarian crisis, as many people were left without food, water, or shelter.
In addition to the human cost, the floods also had a significant economic impact on Libya.
The damage to infrastructure is estimated to be billions of dollars, and the floods disrupted key economic sectors such as agriculture and tourism.
The Libya floods are a stark reminder of the devastating impact that extreme weather events can have on vulnerable communities.
As climate change continues to fuel more extreme weather events, it is important to invest in adaptation and resilience measures to protect people and infrastructure from harm.
Here is a more detailed look at the impact of the Libya floods:
Human impact: The floods killed over 5,000 people, making it one of the deadliest weather events in African history. Tens of thousands of people were also displaced, and many lost their homes and businesses. The floods also caused a humanitarian crisis, as many people were left without food, water, or shelter.
Economic impact: The damage to infrastructure is estimated to be billions of dollars. The floods also disrupted key economic sectors such as agriculture and tourism. The floods are expected to have a significant negative impact on the Libyan economy in the coming years.
Environmental impact: The floods caused widespread damage to the environment. The floodwaters washed away topsoil and contaminated water supplies. The floods also damaged wildlife habitats and ecosystems.
The Libya floods are a wake-up call to the international community.
We need to do more to help vulnerable communities adapt to the impacts of climate change.
We also need to invest in early warning systems and disaster preparedness measures to reduce the loss of life and property in future events.
Lessons Learned
The Libya Floods Offer A Number Of Lessons For The International Community:
The importance of early warning systems: Early warning systems can save lives by giving people time to evacuate before a disaster strikes. However, many vulnerable communities do not have access to early warning systems. The international community needs to invest in early warning systems for all vulnerable communities.
The need for disaster preparedness: Disaster preparedness measures such as evacuation plans and stockpiles of food and water can help to reduce the impact of disasters. However, many vulnerable communities do not have the resources to implement disaster preparedness measures. The international community needs to support vulnerable communities in developing and implementing disaster preparedness plans.
The importance of climate change adaptation: Climate change is making extreme weather events more frequent and severe. We need to invest in climate change adaptation measures to help vulnerable communities cope with the impacts of extreme weather events.
The Libya floods are a tragedy, but they also offer an opportunity to learn and improve.
By investing in early warning systems, disaster preparedness measures, and climate change adaptation, we can help to reduce the loss of life and property in future events.
Conclusion
The Libya floods of September 2023 were a devastating event that had a profound impact on the country.
The floods killed over 5,000 people, displaced tens of thousands more, and caused billions of dollars in damage to infrastructure.
The floods also had a significant impact on the Libyan economy and environment.
The Libya floods are a wake-up call to the international community.
We need to do more to help vulnerable communities adapt to the impacts of climate change.
We also need to invest in early warning systems and disaster preparedness measures to reduce the loss of life and property in future events.

#Repost from our Totally Awesome Conservationist friend... @thesharkwarrior @download.ins --- It’s normally a beautiful walk to the wreck on Noordhoek Beach but on Saturday it was different. Thousands of seals are dying on our West coast - they appear to have suffered from malnutrition. Only last week I researched and wrote a post about why this was happening. I did not, however, expect to find so many of them lying scattered along Noordhoek beach, far south from where most are reported. Adults as well as pups, every few metres another one - a few were marked as part of the counting efforts but most were not. I stopped taking photos eventually as there were just too many. In times gone by to see one dead seal on a beach was an occasional sight, and while this is nothing like the piles of dead seals further north, it tells the same story. There’s something seriously going wrong in our oceans, and while scientist are still trying to pin point the cause, looking at the possibility of avian flu, the only thing they have been able to confirm is the malnutrition and convulsions witnessed in some. There’s no denying or escaping the facts that have long since been documented, researched and quantified: overfishing on the West Coast as well as climate change effects on the Benguela is killing our marine life. See my previous post for more on this. The next day I took a hike up to Noordhoek peak which is a stunning vantage point overlooking the long beach walk I did the previous day. And while from up here everything looks beautiful, another story of pain and suffering lies on our beaches and in our oceans. . #Livestock sector the single largest contributor to #climate change. In contrast, the combined figure for all forms of #transport is around 13.5 per cent of global GHGs.The remarkable lack of attention afforded to livestock production to date reveals considerable societal discomfort about acknowledging the costs incurred by our #preferences (these are not truly needs) for #animal products. However, the inconvenient truth is that the #emissions resulting from clearing land to #graze livestock and grow #feed – from the livestock themselves, and from processing and #transporting livestock #products – are greater than those resulting from any other sector. http://www.andrewknight.info/resources/Publications/Vegetarianism/AK-Climate-change-Vet-Times-2010b.pdf #climatechange #climatechangeisreal #climatechangethefacts #climatechangeart #climatechangehoax #climatechangeawareness #climatechangememes #climatechangeaction #climatechangestrike #climatechanges #climatechangeedit #climatechangemarch #climatechangesolutions #climatechangeprotest #climatechangeisahoax #climatechangeeffects #climatechangeimpact #climatechangefacts #climatechangematters #andrewknight (hier: Isernhagen- Niederhägener Bauernschaft, Niedersachsen, Germany) https://www.instagram.com/p/B-4IWVJAg0c/?igshid=1d452pl0lnske
