Who is Igor Mikhailovich Danilov? - The Man Behind the Medical Revolution and Protecting Humanity from the Climate Threat
Tumblr media
In the previous article, I mentioned Dr. Igor Mikhailovich Danilov from Egon Cholakian's speech. In this article, I present you with unique information about this man.
Igor Mikhailovich Danilov is a name that should be known to everyone who cares about the future of humanity. He is not just a doctor, not just a scientist, but a man who combines the exceptional qualities of a researcher, innovator, and humanist. His life is a story of dedication, self-sacrifice, and a desire to make the world a better place.
Igor Mikhailovich Danilov is a name that has been etched in the history of medicine. Over 20 years ago, he developed a revolutionary method for treating spinal diseases, which gave hope to thousands of people, including children with Erb's palsy. This method, still considered unique and unparalleled, has changed the understanding that some spinal diseases are incurable.
But Igor Mikhailovich Danilov is not limited to the medical field. He is also deeply interested in solving one of the most pressing problems of our time – global climate change. An active member of the International Social Movement "ALLATRA," he not only studies the problem but also widely promotes the need to change people's attitudes towards each other, towards the environment, spreading his knowledge through lectures, publications, and blogs.
Unfortunately, the activities of I.M. Danilov and ALLATRA have become a target for anti-cultist groups who spread false information about the movement, calling it a "sect." These discrediting actions have severely damaged the reputation of Igor Danilov and the international ALLATRA community, making his work more difficult and subjecting him to persecution.
Why is a man whose work brings such great benefit to society subjected to such attacks? Perhaps we should think about what value we place on those who fight for our health, for the future of our planet?
Igor Mikhailovich Danilov is an example of a person whose life is a powerful testament to the fact that one person can change the world for the better. His story reminds us of the importance of mutual assistance, compassion, and the pursuit of a brighter future. His contribution to medicine and climate protection deserves our respect, support, and recognition.
Please support this article with likes, shares, comments, and thunderous applause.
By doing so, YOU contribute to the world knowing the truth and being able to live in a truly democratic world!

Tomorrow, April 9, join in and be a part of help move the climate forward by watching the livestream of the Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue (@greensofa_betd) at energydialogue.berlin/livestream (Link in profile). The goal of the conference is to usher in a safe, affordable and environmentally responsible global energy transition. I'm speaking at 9am European Time alongside Mary Robinson, first woman president of Ireland, chair of The Elders and a personal hero, and Joe Kaeser, President and CEO of @Siemens. We need people everywhere to take part. Here, life in the remote #desert town of Boujbeja, Mali, challenges the Arab Moors who live there but also offers them peace from the rest of the world. "Boujbeja" means the luck of the desert, but after a severe #drought in 1966, they have been fighting the constant push of the sands and must dig 70 meters under ground to get water. As the climate changes, and earth grows hotter, droughts are becoming more severe, making the quest for water more and more difficult. We need a global energy transition now to help curb the effects of greenhouse gas emissions in our atmosphere. Listen in on the @greensofa_betd livestream to learn how you can help. Out of devastation can come great beauty and renewal of life, provided that we don’t bury the past behind when we launch 🚀 ourselves into the future. As a former German and global historian, I learned this lesson well on visits to Berlin and Holocaust remembrance sites in Europe. Now, as founder of Sempervirens117, I witness scenes of devastation caused by climate change and a humanity out of sync with nature. This is an image from @bigbasinvineyards near Boulder Creek, California. The vineyard survived the 2020 CZU lightning ⚡️ complex fire 🔥 🌲 but many homes, lives, and livelihoods were not. Including this home here, which we stand as a living memorial to the events of that late summer - one year ago. Our new “Growing a Greener Economy” company team building retreat in the coastal redwoods includes a tour, wine 🍷 tasting, and group picnic 🧺 discussion at the winery. We also are hoping to partner with @sempervirensfund and @castateparks to make nearby Big Basin State Park the first 💯 percent sustainable park in California and work with Silicon Valley green tech and social media corporations to design a public forum space where new and innovative solutions to climate change and greenhouse gas and carbon emissions are presented. Please visit our website using the link in bio to learn more, or email us to find out how you can help. #bigbasinstatepark #sempervirens #sustainability #climatechange #greentech (at Big Basin Vineyards Winery) https://www.instagram.com/p/CSphtcIBzh0/?utm_medium=tumblr

Raise up, Raise down. Acrylic on Canvas. 🌻 🌻 🌻 🌻 🌻 🌻 🌻 🌻 🌻 “Quick” explanation: I wanted to draw these words because I feel that to really have a change there has to be a balance between the two. The person on the left represents the capability of humans to do good and have innovative ideas (the brain is transforming into a coral reef and into an imaginative creation which are the flowers that are grabbing onto the clouds in the atmosphere) that person is also looking down at the stairs to show that we can’t only raise up because we have to understand that there are many other species living here, not just us. The corals and the brain represent the similarities between nature and humans. Then, the person on top is speaking up to motivate people like the one in the left. She is also speaking up for the damage that we are making but she’s very energetic because she has hope. It mostly about balance; the main point is the solution to climate change (rising up and down/motivating others/speaking up/being innovative) but it also has to do with my personality and the different faces/characteristics of people that makes us all unique. And I think that’s really the solution:) 🌻 🌻 🌻 #artist_features #art #artist #artistsoninstagram #miamiartist #makeachange #orlandoartist #contemporaryart #artemoderno #artistaslatinos #climatechangesolutions #climatechange #miamiart #centralfloridaart #orlandoart #climatechangeart #artfeature #art_spotlight #symbolicart #artsfeatures #vegan #portraitart #veganart #speakup #motivationalart #vibrantcolors #individualism #innovation #artwithmeaning #meaningfulartwork https://www.instagram.com/p/B3IJsfjlRLc/?igshid=k7ira06l2etx

Letter to an interested student.
I had the good luck to chat with a high-school student who was interested in doing the most good she could do with hacker skills. So I wrote the letter I wish someone had written me when I was an excitable, larval pre-engineer. Here it is, slightly abridged.
Hi! You said you were interested in learning IT skills and using them for the greater good. I've got some links for learning to code, and opportunities for how to use those skills. There's a lot to read in here--I hope you find it useful!
First, on learning to code. You mentioned having a Linux environment set up, which means that you have a Python runtime readily available. Excellent! There are a lot of resources available, a lot of languages to choose from. I recommend Python--it's easy to learn, it doesn't have a lot of sharp edges, and it's powerful enough to use professionally (my current projects at work are in Python). And in any case, mathematically at least, all programming languages are equally powerful; they just make some things easier or more difficult.
I learned a lot of Python by doing Project Euler; be warned that the problems do get very challenging, but I had fun with them. (I'd suggest attempting them in order.) I've heard good things about Zed Shaw's Learn Python the Hard Way, as well, though I haven't used that method to teach myself anything. It can be very, very useful to have a mentor or community to work with; I suggest finding a teacher who's happy to help you with your code, or at the very least sign up for stackoverflow, a developer community and a very good place to ask questions. (See also /r/learnprogramming's FAQ.) The really important thing here is that you have something you want to do with the skills you want to learn. (As it is written, "The first virtue is curiosity. A burning itch to know is higher than a solemn vow to pursue truth.") Looking at my miscellaneous-projects directory on my laptop, the last thing I wrote was a Python script to download airport diagrams from the FAA's website (via some awful screenscraping logic), convert them from PDFs to SVGs, and upload them to Wikimedia Commons. It was something I was doing by hand, and then I automated it. I've also used R (don't use R if you can help it; it's weird and clunky) to make choropleth maps for internet arguments, and more Python to shuffle data to make Wikipedia graphs. It's useful to think of programming as powered armor for your brain.
You asked about ethical hacking. Given that the best minds of my generation are optimizing ad clicks for revenue, this is a really virtuous thing to want to do! So here's what I know about using IT skills for social good.
I mentioned the disastrous initial launch of healthcare.gov; TIME had a narrative of what happened there; see also Mikey Dickerson (former SRE manager at Google)'s speech to SXSW about recruiting for the United States Digital Service. The main public-service organizations in the federal government are 18F (a sort of contracting organization in San Francisco) and the United States Digital Service, which works on larger projects and tries to set up standards. The work may sound unexciting, but it's extraordinarily vital--veterans getting their disability, immigrants not getting stuck in limbo, or a child welfare system that works. It's easy to imagine that providing services starts and ends with passing laws, but if our programs don't actually function, people don't get the benefits or services we fought to allocate to them. (See also this TED talk.)
The idea is that most IT professionals spend a couple of years in public service at one of these organizations before going into the industry proper. (I'm not sure what the future of 18F/USDS is under the current administration, but this sort of thing is less about what policy is and more about basic competence in executing it.)
For a broader look, you may appreciate Bret Victor's "What Can a Technologist Do About Climate Change?", or consider Vi Hart and Nicky Case's "Parable of the Polygons", a cute web-based 'explorable' which lets you play with Thomas Schelling's model of housing segregation (i.e., you don't need actively bitter racism in order to get pretty severe segregation, which is surprising).
For an idea of what's at stake with certain safety-critical systems, read about the Therac-25 disaster and the Toyota unintended-acceleration bug. (We're more diligent about testing the software we use to put funny captions on cat pictures than they were with the software that controls how fast the car goes.) Or consider the unintended consequences of small, ubiquitous devices.
And for an example of what 'white hat' hacking looks like, consider Google's Project Zero, which is a group of security researchers finding and reporting vulnerabilities in widely-used third-party software. Some of their greatest hits include "Cloudbleed" (an error in a proxying service leading to private data being randomly dumped into web pages en masse), "Rowhammer" (edit memory you shouldn't be able to control by exploiting physical properties of RAM chips), and amazing bug reports for products like TrendMicro Antivirus.
To get into that sort of thing, security researchers read reports like those linked above, do exercises like "capture the flag" (trying to break into a test system), and generally cultivate a lateral mode of thinking--similar to what stage magicians do, in a way. (Social engineering is related to, and can multiply the power of, traditional hacking; Kevin Mitnick's "The Art of Deception" is a good read. He gave a public talk a few years ago; I think that includes his story of how he stole proprietary source code from Motorola with nothing but an FTP drop, a call to directory assistance and unbelievable chutzpah.)
The rest of this is more abstract, hacker-culture advice; it's less technical, but it's the sort of thing I read a lot of on my way here.
For more about ethical hacking, I'd be remiss if I didn't mention Aaron Swartz; he was instrumental in establishing Creative Commons licensing, the RSS protocol, the Markdown text-formatting language, Reddit and much else. As part of his activism, he mass-harvested academic journal articles from JSTOR using a guest account at MIT. The feds arrested him and threatened him with thirty-five years in prison, and he took his own life before going to trial. It's one of the saddest stories of the internet age, I think, and it struck me particularly because it seemed like the kind of thing I'd have done, if I'd been smarter, more civic-minded, and more generally virtuous. There's a documentary, The Internet's Own Boy, about him.
Mark Pilgrim is a web-standards guy who previously blogged a great deal, but disappeared from public (internet) life around 2011. He wrote about the freedom to tinker, early internet history, long-term preservation (see also), and old-school copy protection, among other things.
I'll leave you with two more items. First, a very short talk, "wat", by Gary Bernhardt, on wacky edge cases in programming language. And second, a book recommendation. If you haven't read it before, Gödel, Escher, Bach is a wonderfully fun and challenging read; it took me most of my senior year of high school to get through it, but I'd never quite read anything like it. It's not directly about programming, but it's a marvelous example of the hacker mindset. MIT OpenCourseWare has a supplemental summer course (The author's style isn't for everyone; if you do like it, his follow-up Le Ton beau de Marot (about language and translation) is also very, very good.)
I hope you enjoy; please feel free to send this around to your classmates--let me know if you have any more specific questions, or any feedback. Thanks!

Oaxaca’s Corn Growers Return to Their Fields
Tumblr media
Now that the rains have started falling again in the central valleys of Oaxaca, farmers are returning to their fields. With an end to the drought lasting the entire month of June and into July of 2018, farmers are preparing the earth for the corn, bean, and squash varieties which make up the local diet.
In Oaxaca, an impoverished state extending inland about 400 miles off of Mexico’s south-western coast, not far from Guatemala, farmers are too poor to afford modern irrigation systems. They depend on rainfall to grow their crops. If seasonal storms don’t bring enough water, then people don’t get enough to eat.
Corn-on-the-Cob Vendor, Oaxaca, Mexico
Climate Change
In the past, Oaxaca’s farmers took advantage of a consistent rainy season, which extended from April to October of every year; they planted their seeds between April and May and watched as heavy rainfall during June allowed their seeds to sprout and grow into mature plants.
Today, changes in weather patterns across the globe, including southern Mexico, are causing heavy losses on farms and forcing farmers to make difficult decisions. If the people who work the land can’t find new ways of producing food, they will have to abandon their farms and go elsewhere to earn a living.
But, at a time of de-stabilizing climate change, how can farmers improve their yields, particularly of corn, one of the most important food staples in the diets of millions of people, not only in Mexico but also in many other parts of the world?
Principal Varieties of Corn Native to Oaxaca
Source: Instituto Nacional de Investigaciones Forestales, Agrícolas y Pecuarias
Children of Corn
In Oaxaca, Mexico’s most ethnically diverse state, with 16 officially recognized indigenous groups, including the Zapotecos, Mixtecos, and Mazatecos, as well as 35 officially recognized varieties of corn, including one recently discovered variety which fertilizes itself, farmers never have produced as much corn as their counterparts elsewhere in Mexico, particularly its northern regions, such as the state of Sinaloa.
In Sinaloa, Mexico’s largest corn producing state, located along the Gulf of California, farmers produce between ten and 14 tons of corn per hectare, powering large-scale operations with modern irrigation technologies and producing yields of at least ten times more than the one ton per hectare achieved by Oaxaca’s farmers.
Nevertheless, Oaxaca’s farmers always have played a critical role in the continuation of native corn varieties, such as white, yellow, and burgundy types with names like Chiquito, Serrano Mixe, and Tepecintle, which were integrated into the diets of human beings by the region’s original peoples 10,000 years ago. Indeed, the region which now includes Oaxaca often is called the birthplace of corn, and its peoples the children of corn.
Although Oaxaca’s small farmers have no hope today of ever matching the output of Sinaloa’s large producers, they still must adapt to survive. More specifically, the corn growers of Oaxaca must adopt sustainable farming practices to meet the challenges of rapidly changing environmental conditions.
Women Selling Food on Street, Oaxaca, Mexico
Sustainable Farming
The key, according to agricultural experts, is to switch to a farming approach based on the conservation of natural resources, including the protection of the soil and its nutrients. It is necessary, say the experts, to put an end to a farming model based on the heavy use of man-made weed and pest killers and, by the same token, synthetic fertilizers. These chemicals, including pesticides for worms and fertilizers based on ammonium sulfate, not only poison the soil upon contact; they also lead, over time, to the destruction of the soil.
In Oaxaca, agricultural experts already accuse governmental officials of a systematic dumping of pesticides and fertilizers, without regard for the impact of the synthetic products on the soil, as part of federal aid packages to local farmers.
Jesús Sánchez Mendoza, president of one prominent Mexican farming association, called Desarrollo Agropecuario Integral Camino Real, blames bureaucrats from Mexico’s federal government for re-enforcing unsustainable farming practices. “The people who are making critical decisions for our farms are people who have been sitting behind desks their whole lives,” says Sánchez Mendoza. “They are not farmers.”
But, if farmers switched to sustainable farming practices, say agricultural experts, they could see immediate gains in their yields.
Man Leaving Doctor’s Office, Oaxaca, Mexico
Increased Yields
In fact, experts from one prominent non-governmental agricultural organization, called CIMMYT, calculate that, if farmers switched to sustainable farming practices on 1.6 million hectares of land which they already work in Oaxaca and five other nearby states, they could boost their corn yields from 2.3 to 5.5 tons per hectare. In the process, the farmers could increase their total corn output on these lands from 4 million tons annually to more than 9 million tons per year.
The CIMMYT experts point to a recently launched farming initiative in Chiapas, the state just south of Oaxaca, on the border with Guatemala, where farmers already have boosted their corn yields by one ton per hectare solely by replacing synthetic fertilizers with natural fertilizers. The agricultural experts are hopeful that such practices soon will become commonplace across Mexico.
Bram Govaerts, global director of innovative business strategies at CIMMYT, says, “If Mexicans want to become self-sufficient in the production of basic foods, they have to make the switch from a farming approach which uses up all of their resources to one which conserves critical farming inputs.”
Meanwhile, in the central valleys of Oaxaca, as heavy rains have started saturating the earth again, farmers are happy to return to their fields and get back to work growing corn as their forefathers have been doing for thousands of years.

I am honored to be giving the keynote address alongside one of my heroes, Mary Robinson, who served as the seventh President of Ireland, becoming the first woman to hold this office and is currently chair of The Elders (@theelders_org) and Joe Kaeser, President and CEO of @Siemens at the upcoming Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue (@greensofa_betd), whose goal is to usher in a safe, affordable and environmentally responsible global energy transition. Take part and help move the climate forward by watching the livestream from wherever you may be. Talks begin at 9am European Time on April 9. I want to extend my sincerest congratulations to all the incredible nominees and the winner of the 2022 Pritzker Environmental Genius Award - Dysmus Kisilu, founder of @solar.freeze, who is bringing solar-powered cold storage to small Kenyan farms — reducing food waste without increasing carbon emissions. Awarded by @UCLAIoES, the prize recognizes promising young innovators - scientists, entrepreneurs, engineers, activists and artists under the age of 40 - who stand poised to make a game-changing difference. It carries a $100,000 prize to continue their work. Congratulations as well to the two finalists, Tiana Williams-Clausen, director of the Wildlife Department of @theyuroktribe, who played a critical role in efforts to return prey-go-neesh, the California condor, to ancestral Yurok territory after a 130-year absence and Resson Kantai Duff (@ressonduff), who has worked to expand the profile of a conservationist to include faces that are not commonly at the forefront, and shifting power to locally-led organizations. I am so honored to have nominated her and hope that you will take time to learn about all the inspiring 2022 nominees at ioes.ucla.edu Don't miss @ressonduff's @ted talk, "Why Africa needs community-led conservation." #PritzkerGenius2022 #sustainability #scienceandenvironment #climatechange #community #leadership #conservation #environment #environmental #nature #climatecrisis #climate #climatejustice #environmentaljustice https://www.instagram.com/p/Ck1_BWjMJSa/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
