Since we all know what kind of blog this is, lemme just say it: The over the top, needless violence~ :)

I mean, if I am honest, I love every little aspect of it, and it wouldn't work at all without all the other moments — hell, it's not even such a huge part of it, %-wise. But damn, it has been a while since I broke every bone in someone's body, and it was about time.

I don't really think of other people's OCs in that way, and I've been thinking for 5 minutes, and I cannot find an answer, so I'll stop.

Sometimes I get ideas that my brain is convinced are so good they need to be written right now

When that happens, I'll usually just start it lol

Write down what I have, see if it flows, see if more ideas for the concept start hitting

To be completely honest, 80% of my writing in the last three years has been whump writing, and I'm pretty relaxed about when I update a WIP, which I think helps me a lot (even though I end up with stories that haven't been updated in over a year that way 😶)

Just running with an idea is how I ended up with Sun and Glass and Never, and those are some of the favorite stories I've written

It's so cute seeing them together! I love the hairstyles, their eyes, the way they look at each other - it's so cool you can capture that in a drawing!

Love the details, that Isaiah has a black-green jacket and Seline has a gray-blue one. And Seline's headband! Plus the way she touches him!😍 And the scarf from him that connect them!

The winter vibes! This fits so much to the current weather, okay!🥰😊

They are so cute, okay. Thank you so much for this. It's super inspiring seeing them together like this with such soft looks and in your style. Real by hand art, can't be copied or replaced. Thank you for the time and skill and the heart you put into this!

Something is off today. Ashtray can feel it in his bones —not that it’s his purpose to make a judgement about the situation. He is only supposed to please his Mistress. 

Kneeling next to her, his golden collar connected to a leash held loosely in her hand. It’s picturesque, her beautifully manicured fingers tapping against the shining metal in something he can only hope is not annoyance.

There is no visitor today, a surprise given the collar, but he is still on his best behaviour. Mistress is only watching the TV, decorated in a golden antique frame to be hidden at will. Only his beloved Mistress could come up with such a perfect concept, combining her intricate style with the comfort of modern invention. He hopes her servants appreciate the design when they clean it. 

Mistress doesn’t seem to care much for it today though, just instead making a sound he’d never dare compare to a growl. Nevertheless, it makes him shiver. He can’t seem to stop, ever since she marked her own artwork —rightfully so!—, but he does his best to keep them under control. Barely visible to the eye, only noticeable when he is touched. 

And nowadays he rarely is.

Suddenly, she tucks at the chain, beckoning him closer. She blows her smoke into his face, drowning him out in the cloud, his eyes stinging. Finally, something familiar.

Instead of extinguishing her still-lit cigarette, she pushes his chin with a single, slender finger until he leans back, the posture tugging at his many scars.

As gracefully as possible, almost sensually, Ashtray lets his head fall back too, light blond hair spilling over his face, getting caught in his long eyelashes, his eyes closed. 

Suddenly, her nails trace the letters over his heart and they are sharp almost like—

like knives. 

Sharp, honed, new blades, with the single purpose of splitting Ashtray’s flesh with ease. 

Prolonged cutting he doesn’t dare call cruel, white lighting and red rivers. 

He is right there. All over again. 

It’s like his body reacts before he can, caught in a memory he should be grateful for if he wasn’t somehow broken.

The body flinches back, from his Mistress's holy touch.

For a moment, everything is silent. 

Ashtray stares at the ceiling, a horrible feeling of knowing washing over him. Whatever his Mistress did, rightfully, he never flinched. 

In the next second, his head snaps to the side, the loud bang of his Mistress slapping him echoing through the room.

Mistress is screaming at him, for the first time. He has never failed her before, not like this. And he can’t even comprehend her words. 

Whatever she is telling him is lost to his mind that he never quite understood. He only knows he is inferior in a way even an ashtray shouldn’t be, and he can do nothing to remedy that.

Tears pool in his eyes, as the servants drag him away from his still-shouting Mistress. When did he get so useless? 

When did his beautiful porcelain conditioning crack?

Ok, so, I tried to do this like two times and it took me a while to lay the sketch. I had an idea for what to do--i went to give the series a shot, once i noticed this buddy here is a part of one so i could get better context--and so the idea i had was for making something from his villain days! It appears that Kolt as a villain was very intriguing (at least for me) but I couldn't make a sketch I was satisfied with, so I decided to go more whumpy! I remember a part where Kolt is in his recovery and he remembers when multiple people were watching and mocking him....couldn't get this over my head. Overall, I haven't finished it yet, but Fallen is a great series! They write it so well!

WIP Intro: Cold Iron

Plot

Life is hard for a changeling in 1956. Just like it was in the 1910's and the 1920's and the 1930's. The 40's were actually a little better because Americans had a different enemy to focus on, but now they're back to fight off the Fae threat with a new military branch. And to them, there is no difference between the powerful Fae who cross the veil for nefarious purposes, the wildlings lurking in alleys and tunnels to grab any scraps they can, and the changelings left in place of stolen human children.

And maybe there is no difference, really. Shakatra and their brother Kris, both abandoned changelings, have been living for decades in the tunnels under Seattle, stealing food and picking fights with wildlings and caring for no one but each other. But now it's 1956, and Shakatra has just remembered their birthday. Though they are all but ageless, the human whose place they took would be turning 40 this year, and she must be living horribly beyond the veil as servant to the Fae. It's not fair that Shaka goes free. And things that aren't fair bother them.

So the two set off to cross the veil. Just a quick road trip followed by an unknown ritual followed by sneaking into a Fae court and sneaking out again with one—or maybe two—freed humans. And then they'll go back to their life. Easy, right?

Except that nothing is as they expected, including the humans they meant to save—but they might just leave with everything they didn't know they needed. If they can survive.

Characters

Shakatra Zoawin: Turning 40 this year, but seemingly still 20. An autistic changeling full of feral rage with a knack for glamours (especially the kind that make others give them pancakes). Fears how much they hurt everyone they love but can't make themself protect their brother by leaving him. Left their abusive human "family" as a teenager and has been homeless since. Over the course of the story, realizes that their gender is No (and introduced to "they" as a pronoun by a Fae they later kill).

Kristoffer Zoawin: Also turning 40 this year—he thinks. He has to more or less guess at his age, having been abandoned by the humans he was left with so young he doesn't know what name they gave him. But Shakatra was 12 when they met, so Kris decided he was 12 then too. Trans but "raised" (vaguely kept alive) by a loose group of wildlings until he was old enough to survive alone and so didn't realize until puberty that he wasn't like other boys. Actually, he understood that as not just an inhuman changeling, but a Black one, that he was hated more than Shakatra long before he understood that he would have been assigned female. Equally traumatized, but with a more easygoing disposition, he avoids doing magic because it makes him ill and instead enjoys people watching and eating good food and drawing in paint or chalk.

Maggie Davis: The human girl who would have been the protagonist if this were a YA book written 15 years ago. 21 years old and has the rare but not unheard of ability to see through glamours, so not only has she seen monsters her entire life but she was the only one to realize that her brother Nick was replaced as a toddler. She loved the changeling left in his place in a way no one else did, but he (as most changelings) died young and she chose to leave her small town and find her original brother, who would have been about 17 then. Conveniently, she found 2 Fae passing through and forcibly attached herself to them, much to Kris' delight and Shaka's dismay. But she would prove surprisingly useful in the chaos that followed as their mission fell apart.

What a very wild month. I feel like I really properly enjoyed this month. I have a party to go to on Monday and no real plans for the actual day of halloween, but I am extremely proud of the progress I've made and the projects I've finished. Shout out to my hormone control which has made this all happen. Unmedicated me could never.
