What made me smile this week?

Monday, 10/21/24 - hey everyone today was supposed to be my wife's amazing 8-month Quad-iversary ♿ and while we still enjoyed it the best we could we ran into some major issues, on Sunday our Friend offered to take us to the Fair and we had just done homecoming we're pretty sore and I must mind you this was thrown at us randomly so we were a little adment at first, but we eventually asked and our parents we're uncomfortable with the idea since it was an hour away and I totally understand there concern and we weren't even mad willam wanted to get things off his chest and discussed it with them but he was so sweet about it. Fast forward to today and we had to deal with everything, they were cussing us out calling us “Gay skeleton B! tch” if not more, she was flaming William and Donny but I had stepped in because I don't like when people mess with my friends, she got mad at me and started cussing me out and I had done nothing, she was ignoring us and this all had to fall on Emmie's anniversary we felt awful and it was an awful day but we eventually got over it and continued with the rest of our day. But we had filmed Emmie's video late at night and got it uploaded. We are so sorry for this horrible day, Emmie. I love you, and happy 8 months ❤️ when me and Emmie were actually hanging out, it made me smile!

Tuesday, 10/22/24 - Today, Nichole is still ignoring me and Willam and Donny and Emmie, but we honestly ignored her; in the first period, I had done tons of work! I built a brain using clay or modeling clay and then I worked on several worksheets but got them all done I'm honestly shocked at how much work I'm getting done, then in the second period I worked on a unit 3 bonding short answer sheet for extra credit on my test, in the third period I worked on a review packet for a test I was supposed to be having today but the technology was being weird but that was ok! Then in fourth Nichole had previously changed her seat on Monday to sit away from us and had sat near Izzy and Izzy seemed she did not like her lol ( I don't blame her) so Izzy switched seats with us lol and we enjoyed it, but Nichole wasn't there even though she was there previously so I'm thinking she skipped. The fun, then, we went home and definitely enjoyed our day more. We laughed, and we chilled for a while, but we did have to clean out a very dirty trash can. Lol, it smelled so disgusting, but we got it done! Then we went to bed today was definitely a lot better! And it made me smile!

Wednesday, 10/23/24 - today we attempted to wake up at 4:00 Am safe to say we filmed miserably lol we woke up at 4:00 Am fell back asleep, and woke up around 7:00 Am which is not bad just not at the time we wanted to wake up, but we had continued with our morning like usual we got on the bus and stuffy ( donnys husband) tried to lift Donny's arm this ended in laughter and fear as Luz wasn't expecting his wrist to randomly spasm or stiffen lol it scared her! Then in the first period, I worked on an online assignment and built a whole neuron using modeling items! It looked alright, and I had basically done more than what's shown in the photo, but that was almost the fully finished product! Landon did a wonderful job tho! Earlier in the morning we were trying to get a photo of Donny printed out! Hopefully, it will work! Then, In the second period, I worked on a description for YouTube and worked on my unit 3 bonding worksheet and got it submitted to Mrs Mauney! Then I had to type out my answers since she couldn't see them but nothing big! Then I've been updating my documents and getting things pre-written ✍️! Stay tuned!

Thursday, 10/24/24 - today is the day Donny hits 1 Year with a spinal cord injury! It's been a hell of a ride and we are so proud of him! This morning, I woke up and just edited the whole morning (thankfully, not too vigorous editing as this week's vlog was very short!), and it will be uploaded today at 4:10 P.m. So he prepared today in first period I just got to chill since I got all my work done then shortly into first period we had to go to Mrs Lawson's classroom because mrs cox had to run an errand so we sat there until a random fire alarm started playing! And we had never been informed, so I thought it was out of nowhere, like an actual fire! But thankfully, it was not, and it was just a drill that we were supposed to have before October 31st! So thankfully everything was ok! And we went back where I talked about printings and donnys 1 Year spinal cord anniversary to Mrs Lawson and she was super proud of Donny! And me, which is awesome. Then I continued to the second period, where we did our big unit test, and I got 44%, which isn't good! But I'm thankful to get it over with them. I continued to the fourth period, where we did a notebook quiz, and I don't know what I got on that because she won't grade them till Monday! We went home and filmed a video for Donny's 1 Year celebration! On his channel (Donny & SC injury), stuffy surprised him with a lovely surprise of a nutty buddy and a few Jolly Ranchers. He was very grateful, and then Stuffy shared a scary and surprising story! Again which you'll find on his channel! We then just hung out for the rest of the day, and it made me smile!

Friday, 10/25/24 - today was a nice and chill day. Today, in the first period, I casually chilled on my phone because I had no more work, so I got to chill and update some descriptions and write my ALS post coming out in two days! And then, in the second period, I did a worksheet and some notes, then in the third period, I worked on a “Who killed Barry online assignment?” Thankfully I got that done just in the nick of time. Then, in the fourth period, we worked on some worksheets, and we talked with Nichole, but it was just for a few. But then we enjoyed the rest of our day and it made me smile!

Saturday, 10/26/24 - today, it's the weekend! Today was a very lazy day. All we really did was do laundry, help Mom some causally open Pokemon packs, and chill on Instagram for the whole day we're thankful it was a chill day, and we also got our skeleton costume for the event that we're going to on October 31st! So we're excited for that! We continued to chill for a bit, and we had a great day even though it was so lazy lol. We enjoyed it, and it made me smile!

Sunday, 10/27/24 - today is the infamous day I hit 5 months with ALS today, which means I lost a % of breathing today, which is the most drastic month, and I woke up so early; I woke up around 5:55 Am, which is insanely Early! But I just chilled until our friends woke up; sadly, I had to edit all morning from the ALS video, and chemotherapy following that was a huge mistake we had made! And Emmie has never made this mistake throughout my entire cancer journey, but apparently, today was the day I had originally thought that I had to do chemotherapy today, but actually, I wasn't supposed to start it till Monday, October 28th! Thankfully, I got it done for the day, and I don't have chemotherapy on Monday!, and I will continue to be on the schedule! For the rest of the day, we enjoyed our day and just relaxed for most of the day! I got to writing and posting my ALS post to Tumblr, YouTube, and Instagram! There were so many apps lol. Then we continued till the rest of our day, and it made me smile that today was very chill. We also got a yummy big Mack and fries and a yummy caramel frappe! It was super good!

his claustrophobia is mental, not physical-- he is perfectly fine and in fact prefers small spaces for rest and protection, but feels trapped and has to flee in certain situations, especially under pressure. will run very far away to stand under open sky somewhere unfamiliar

this means he sneaks out of the putt putt area a lot, similar to sneaking out of the tree as a kid

self taught accountant, just took certification exams (bc he's hyperindependent in some ways)

sort of expected to be king someday among the putt putt trolls-- he didn't expect to be potentially "competing" with his youngest brother for that title but he's not upset abt it lol

his hyperindependence plus need to prove himself as opposite of his bros assumptions lands him in some very silly situations sometimes

he still has panic attacks, but his wife soothes him a lot, especially holding him and helping him check on the kids

nico was born in philadelphia on 24th of april - which makes him taurus sun! and i honestly dont think ive mentioned this before, but his full name is actually nicolaus jeremiah perry. ever since he moved to brackenridge - around the age of 7, hes been friends with clay and jenny.

he was born & raised atheist, hence his interest in religion and spirituality. during the 4 parts of midground, he turns into an agnostic of sorts - he believes that some sort of god-like figure really exists, but doesnt side with any religion in particular (even the two angels that get sent to earth dont give any specific information regarding deities in heaven, so its not like hes in the wrong by not believing in like, christian understanding of god or whatever)

he was also the first one to encounter a supernatural activity!!! in part 1 chapter 4 called nico the god-fearing, where he finds a ghost in a local church. as a thank u gift, the priest gives him an old religious anti-occult book, which features the prayer to st george. at first, hes the only one that could summon st georges sword, too, bc it requires pure intentions and decisiveness.

in general, hes the sweetest, kindest kid, and definitely the mom friend of the group. hes not very confident in himself, and doesnt know what he wants to do in the future (tho as ive been writing this short story that happens when theyre all 24yo, he lives in pittsburgh, as well as mercy and clay, and is a writer for some independent news site, so hes gonna turn out fine).

hes also gay! and biracial. and around 181cm tall. and pretty rich, definitely the richest out of all 6 main characters. his favourite colors are soft blues and greens, and he loves to cook - his mom is vegetarian so he is used to trying out new dishes every so often, instead of just boring ass meat meals. when he was a little kid, his parents would constantly make him to take stuff like tennis or piano lessons. he doesnt play any instruments anymore tho, and he prefers team sports, too. he has a very romantic soul, and believes in stuff like love from the first sight or star-crossed lovers. hes very supportive towards all his friends, too, and they repay him with trust - mercy came out to him first, and so did jen, and he always knew clay was gay, too. to be honest, during the course of all 4 parts, id have to say that his personality changes the least out of all main characters - he was always as sweet and caring and trustworthy - but i think his relationship with religion was always really fun to write. the way hes a bit sceptical, and also curious of so many things and has that pure heart that lets him really enjoy that road of discovery, and the way hes quite a bit scared of the unknown, and yet loves his friends too much to abandon them - i dont know!!! hes just a really good friend, and a kind soul.

I saw The Fellowship again last weekend and promptly reached for the book seconds after finishing the movie, intending to just read a few chapters and skip through the rest but hoo boy am I IN IT now. I realized I only read the book in Dutch so I absolutely must remedy this grave injustice (tho 12yo me was happy enough to read the Dutch version I'm sure)

so far I've learned/remembered:

not only is there an entire introductory chapter chronicling all the revisions and editions that introduced new mistakes but there is an entire book about it (!!!) also at some point Tolkien was like, "haha okay I'll stop doing revisions now I promise" and then he 100% did not stop

While ur very right about the struggle he faces, i feel as though he can be himself? At least, he doesn't really truly show repression, hes just himself and people kinda hate him for it sometimes.

For example, in the episode you mentioned about the sermon, he doesn't get upset at the fact that rev putty gets all up in his business about it. He just doesn't seem to try to fit in. Danielle can go as far as admitting to getting with Bloberta just to be closer to Clay and saying he doesn't feel sorry.

In my opinion, either he's extraordinarily apathetic or became numb to the opinions of others because of the environment he was born and raised in. At some point, after getting too many weird looks and possibly too many insults, he might've just. Stopped caring.

It seems to me like he's the kind of person to do whatever it takes to get what he wants, as long as it's not too much of an effort. And thats why he switches between who he prays to, more often than not.

Moralton is shown to be a place where repression and hiding have led to people being unable to grow and move on, who are stuck in a cycle that makes everybody miserable. In that sense, Danielle fits right in, if not even shines in comparison because he's a hedonist who inevitably gets pleasure from /something/. That trait plays a really powerful role in his character.

I will give you this, though, there is definitely some truth to him having an inner conflict, but my theory is a little different from the one you've discussed. Because even after he gave up a life of real and true conformity, he still misses Clay. And he still failed at having a stable relationship with him. He was so affected that he accepted to spend the day with the child of said man, a rare moment of vulnerability.

Now for someone who's been detached to that point, to be safe, wouldn't it be crushing to be hurt all over again because you dared care?

Bi and gay people have struggled with having to block out their emotions and bargain with them, historically. I'm pretty sure Danielle isn't the only one and maybe that's what Moral Orel was trying to represent. Maybe I'm digging too deep in a stop motion series made over ten years ago. And maybe i should sleep seeing as it is 1:23 am. Cool number tho.

I’m not reblogging the post this is a response to (if solely because it has untagged mentions of some of the shittier things about Moral Orel characters) but I ended up having 2 takes on it. Tw homophobia

First: when looking at a piece of media it’s weird to not expect a person to get emotionally invested in its world and characters. Like, that’s just a side effect of art…

Second: A piece being Satire means you should look CLOSER at what it’s using its characters to do, not back away from it and go ‘hee hee it’s just supposed to be funny.’ Satire is trying to make a point, humor is how it points out the ridiculousness of the world we live in and the rules that govern it.

ANYWAY let’s talk about Danielle and what I think they were trying to do with him. (though they fumbled a LOT in their tactic.)

To do so I’m going to compare him with the only openly gay character (open is an important word here) in the show: Stephanie. Stephanie is established as being Other to the world of Moralton in a way that’s very on the nose. She’s not a Christian, she works at a sex shop, she has a shit ton of piercings, while she gets maternal pangs she doesn’t seem interested in actually going through with the whole marriage and kids thing Moralton would want from her. And she’s one of the few characters in the show portrayed as genuine and kind.

Highkey The Blessed Union has no subtlety when it comes to this… The series as a whole isn’t subtle but like-

Clay: Son, she's only pleasant because she is different. When you're normal like the rest of us in Moralton, you have the luxury of being unpleasant.

‘Rem what does this have to do with Stopframe?’ Well, Danielle sits in a sort of in between space, represented by him switching between God and Satan on a whim. While Clay can repress his bisexuality every second of every day, Danielle can’t manage that. Literally Putty saw it the moment he decided to walk into church, it’s something only Orel really doesn’t catch onto until the end. So he can’t really be the pious Christian man that the town wants.

And he can’t express himself and just… Be like Stephanie can. He wants the ‘normalcy’ that Clay in some ways represents. Satan was arguably about that fact, with the cult being strange… But ultimately happy in their own skin, living their own lives, they don’t want a Virgin to sacrifice for evil. They just wanna have sex and enjoy the pleasures of life and… Danielle can’t do that not fully at least. So he switches. Between doing the most evil things he can, taking in the world that he’s been forbidden from. Being Satan. And loving Clay, trying to fit himself into a mold that he will never truly be match.

Arc One- Dragonet Prophecy

Book One- The Dragonet Prophecy

Overall well done, would’ve maybe had Clay actually end up killing someone either defending himself or defending his friends and having him have that guilt and better understanding of the true fact that even though he had killed, he wasn’t a killer. Clay needed a better plot arc as he’s exactly the same at the end of the whole series and that just won’t stand. He needs ANGST. Also remove the scrapped Glory x Clay foreshadowing at the start of the book. It bugs me.

Perfect. But I would rather Whirlpool die more painfully. Eels are too merciful. Fuckin pedo. Though Tsunami loses all personality after this book so there’s an issue there.

Book Three- The Hidden Kingdom

Perfect, interesting society and well-developed culture. Glory x Deathbringer is problematic tho but maybe the Winglets just need to be edited. (There are errors in that book as well, in the blurb “Fierceteeth” was spelled as “Fiercetooth” as well as there being a name repeat.)

9/10 (cuz weird age gap is ickkkkkkk)

Book Four- The Dark Secret

No real issues here, I have less qualms with the first arc since it’s pretty well done. One thing is, I hate Fatespeaker. Kill her or at least make her leave Starflight alone, let mans be bi in peace.

Book Five- The Brightest Night

Loved the climax and the resolution. But godammit let Peril be the Wings of Fire, Tui, you bitch, let her have that. Thorn is lovely and Smolder is hella gay. Wish Sunny being a hybrid made more sense, why would a sandy yellow tribe and a black starry tribe make a golden mini dragon. Makes no sense, at least give her freckled silver hidden in her scales. Also Sunny and Fatespeaker would’ve made an awesome ship. Wasted opportunity.

Book Six- Moon Rising

Excellent choice making Moon the MC since she gave us unique insight and it really helped with world building. Darkstalker is a groomer and pedo so there's that. Nothing much to say here but Moon does lose all personality after this book.

Book Seven- Winter Turning

Abusive toxic man. Racist is his whole personality and after this book everyone just forgets he’s a dickhead and pretends it never happened. Hailstorm angst was excellent though, well done and as an angst lover, a true delicacy. Hailstorm is a traumatized gay man and you cannot tell me otherwise. The only thing about Winter that changed is him being less misogynistic and less racist.

Book Eight- Escaping Peril

Perils' development was interesting and her overcoming her conditioning to be loyal was wonderful to watch as well as her just being overall my favorite character by far <3.

Tbh I forget about this one a lot, it’s mostly Anemone being an ass and Turtle being a chicken. Family drama galore.

Book Ten- The Darkness of Dragons

OH BOY THE MIXED FEELINGS. Darkstalker pedo confirmed, he turned Fierceteeth into his dead ex and tried to commit genocide. Moon being so insistent that she could fix Darkstalker and how much she believed in him, and how he deserved a second chance definitely was weird and I know she was under a spell but like, WHAT. The ending felt weird cuz Tui seemed to be making it up as she went, she had written herself into a corner since Darkstalker was immortal, untouchable, and immune to all other magic. But the talk he had with Quibli was very very interesting and I really wish that had been explored more. The Quibli corruption arc would’ve saved this series for me but Tui AIN’T GOT THE BALLS FOR THAT. It was a very long book for the series and a lot happened but not a lot at the same time. Like I said, mixed feelings.

Arc Three- The Lost Continent Prophecy

Book Eleven- The Lost Continent

Loved it. The class system, the world building, the bug facts within it and the link to the first continent, so well done. Blue is a little boring though, bland and utterly harmless, reminiscent of Clay, but more boring. The world building was what saved it.

9/10 (would’ve been 10/10 but Blue done and effed it up)

Book Twelve- The Hive Queen

Loved it, the continued development kept me engaged and the fashion part was PEAK. Cricket was a lovable nerd and a sweet person who could actually get shit done. The reveal of how the hive mind worked was creepy and so well done, I cannot say anything bad about this book.

Book Thirteen- The Poison Jungle

The best one so far. AGAIN with the BALLER world building and PEAK development, Sundew and Willow’s love story was amazing and I loved the cultural dynamic between the Sapwings and the Poisonwings. The carnivorous plants were interesting as all hell and the Leafwings were badass. Hawthorn was a twist villain done RIGHT and this is the book I’ve re-read the most BY FAR. This was the point when I was in peak obsession with the series, it was everything I’d ever wanted in a series and I thought it would continue to improve. My heart was promptly broken.

Book Fourteen- The Dangerous Gift AKA, the beginning of the end

The entire book was pointless. I can tell you everything that happened in one sentence. Lost Continent bros show up and Snowfall is racist, she follows them around and becomes less racist, she learns crown thing is cursed, she break it, yayyyyyyy, they go to Lost Continent. WHY THE HELL DID IT TAKE THREE-HUNDRED AND THIRTY-SIX PAGES TO GET THAT?????

1/10. Wasted my time.

Book Fifteen- The Flames of Hope AKA the big disappointment and the thing that made me lose interest in the series.

The angst around their friends being under the control of the Othermind was good, but not good enough to save this book. What I don’t get is why FIRE BREATHING DRAGONS couldn’t take on a few Hivewings. Jambu and Pineapple could go invisible and SPIT ACID and Quibli had a stinger, Moon could read minds and Tsunami was a seasoned fighter. WHY DID THEY FUCKIN LOSE???? The pace was so mind-numbingly slow and the entire book was just a giant lore-dump in the worst way possible. Luna was just vibing underground all alone for the majority of the book “face a great evil with talons united” MY ASS. The entire thing was resolved by making a centuries old dragonet feel bad for you. Where is our epic ending? Tui’s aversion to violent resolutions makes no sense, this book series ain’t for little kids, dragons die in violent ways all the time, Fjord, Whirlpool, Arctic, literally any Skywing prisoner, Morrowseer, Blister, Burn, Dune, Kestrel, Osprey, Queen Battlewinner, the list goes on. I feel like maybe a better solution could’ve been to finally give us a violent resolution. In past books, peaceful ones kind of worked, but this wasn’t that book. Once again, Tui had backed herself into another corner, making up a poorly done bullshit ending that was unsatisfying and rushed. This book makes me sad and mad. This killed Wings of Fire.
