“Then the dove flew out the door, and she followed it. Every seven steps a drop of red blood and a little white feather fell to the ground to show her the way. JONATHAN LIVINGSTONE SEAGULL book review
I've read that book many many times since I was little and every time that book amazes me and makes me feel so hopeful and beautiful. I think this book has many things to give each and every time you read it, just like the little prince. It is literally the first book that I decided to read after I was done with uni, and I finished it in one sitting. I highly recommend you read the book. I give it a solid 5/5 stars.
⚠️ Spoilers ahead ⚠️ (not so much but anyways)
This book is about a seagull who decides he wants more in life, other than fly just so he can eat; he was to truly learn how to fly. This whole book is about overcoming yourself and your boundaries, learning about yourself and what you can do, and embracing your differences. It is about never giving up and never fearing failure.
The way the seagull society is portrayed in the books, is the most beautiful allegory I've read in a while. It combines the society's 'norms' with what society deems as a god or a devil. The constant fight to show greatness to others while fearing for your life because you will either be idolised or be exiled.
This is not like my other reviews, it's a shorter one, mostly because I don't have many things to say about the book, because, as a book, it is so simple and yet so deep. This is why I love it so much.

2023 - Week 15 - Three books, each of which is set in a different century: Book 1
My Pick: The Legend of Sleepy Hollow
Excellent read for Halloween. I have never actually read the story until now. However, this was definitely not the story I remember from the movies. A bit comical if you keep imagining the characters the way they looked in the movie.
My Rating: 3 out of 5

Book : To The Lighthouse
Author : Virginia Woolf
Read in : 2021 || Format : Paperback
Score : 5/5
Tumblr media
'' A sort of transaction went on between them, in which she was on one side, and life was on another, and she was always trying to get the better of it, as it was of her.''
Well, this is one of those books that probably had changed the world. This one has three parts, 'The Window', 'Time Passes', 'To the Lighthouse'. Each, very technically woven in steam-of-consciousness literally technique. In the first part, we see The Ramsay family, specially their younger son, James, expecting to visit the lighthouse the following day but is afraid of the detour being called off due to bad weather.
And from there on, the journey of a reader begins. Now the narration style might appear a bit disturbing to some people but that is what this literary technique is, seems like the narration is happening inside the head of Mrs. Ramsay. This is how mind actually works. And so I couldn't appreciate it more. Brilliant.
I'm not really capable of 'reviewing' this book so these are my thoughts on it. Then, there is another asset of this marvelous piece, the characters.
In the first part we pretty much see the birds in their nest, living or just breathing or trying to fit in. In the second part, the grown up birds had left their nest. Some lived. Some died. Yes. Death. This books has a handful of deaths which simply breaks hearts. And the final part is my most favorite one to read and savour, 'To The Lighthouse'. The character developments are most vivid over there.
Apart from literary writing and realistic characters, I think, this book explores the very human being is every aspect of life on Earth.
I don't need to give it a second thought when I say this book has stolen my heart and is one of a kind.
