What a wonderful relaxing danceable album. Just about perfect for any situation and one that I’ve been a fan of for a loooong ass time. Absolute classic. People try and make a big deal about ska as this cringe thing, but if you ask me every genre has its cringe bands / albums and it’s great bands / albums. Metal heads try to avoid this but there are a lot of awful awful horribly cringe and embarrassing metal bands that have some cultural sway in the metal scene. Ska is the same!! This is definitely one of the good albums.

The whole thing is so perfectly constructed. The bass is the star of the show as far as I can. It’s tone is perfect and it adds this wonderful bouncy vibe to the whole thing. On top of that the guitars are that perfect staccato up stroke chords. Great singing and overall performance. The drummer is doing exactly what the song needs and nothing more. The organ playing is fun and dynamic. No individual element of the band is trying to steal or over perform it’s just this really wonderful understated vibe. Fucking amazing. If you haven’t check this out DO!

it’s kinda funny to me that charles seems like this classic brit punk rocker and looking at him makes you think of like. the clash. sex pistols. etc. but really according to his pins and the time period he died in he was probably most frequently listening to fucking. ska

Thank you so much for sharing your playlists for the boys. Fleetwood Mac's "Everywhere" on Charles' [playlist] is especially perfect. Music is so dear to me and I love characters that are part of counter cultures like Charles. So I wonder how his relationship with his music has changed since he is no longer able to be part of a community built around it. Do you think he ever tried to keep up with new music as a way of staying connected to the living? Would gigs lose their appeal to ghosts despite the free entry? Does Edwin let Charles play records aloud in the office between cases or is that unbearable for him?

As with any image, the motifs used for sealing could be interpreted differently by different people, challenging the expression of identity intended by the wearer. This problem befell the young Octavian, who chose an image of a sphinx for his first seal but had to replace it when he was later ridiculed that recipients feared the sphinx-like trickery contained in the letters that bore it (Pliny Natural History 33.6). So strong was the relationship between a signet ring’s image and an individual that, as in the case of Planesium, it could invoke memories and emotions even without the presence of its wearer. In Plutarch’s account of the death of Pompey he describes how Caesar was said to have turned away at the sight of his adversary’s severed head, but burst helplessly into tears when presented with his signet ring (Pompey 80.5). To Caesar it was not the lifeless, decaying head but the sight of the ring that stirred his feelings, encapsulating the essence of the life he had taken. For Pompey, the relationship with his signet ring transcended his own existence; it had gone from an object that expressed his identity, to an object that identified his body.

one thing about alt stuff is that the barrier to entry to being "goth" is truely so fucking low and yet people constantly limbo under the bar instead of stepping over it and wonder why they get called posers. like we're not asking you to move mountains here we're just asking you to find even one band under the umbrella that you like and to engage with the community a little bit. The fashion has truely so much overlap between goth punk and emo so very few people will care which one you call yourself based on your look and you just have to find a band you like. Dashboard Confessional screams a bit too much for your taste and Dead Kennedys is too loud? Guess what you're in luck the goths listen to something a little softer and weirder they call it dark wave or ethereal wave depending on the phases of the moon. Try out Clan of Xymox or Switchblade Symphony. Like truly the alt music scene is so fucking diverse there's gotta be something in here that you like. If not and you truly are a pop girlie then don't call yourself punk it's very easy.
