Bienvenidos al torneo de literatura clásica latinoamericana
This bracket was mainly inspired by @classiclitbracket and people in @latinotiktok talking about the potential of a Latin American lit bracket.
Feel free to make your submissions/talk to me in English, Spanish or French. I unfortunately cannot speak Portuguese but I understand a fair amount of written Portuguese (as is usual with people who know Spanish), so, while not preferred, that is also an option.
I have not decided when I will close submissions yet but the pinned post will be there until I do. Have fun!

Classic Literature Sexyperson Tournament; Round 1
Tumblr media Tumblr media
propaganda:
Mercutio:
has an article
watch the baz lurhman movie. that's the propaganda.
He is absolutely full of Gender and chaos and frightening narrative awareness for a guy who seems to think (hope?) he’s in a comedy until the minute he dies. I love a guy who can prophesy the deaths of his friends while consistently being comic relief.
i mean come on.
I feel like Mercutio fits exactly into the sexy person category. He’s a prince, he’s a fighter, he may ambiguously be in love with his besties, hes a silly guy, he dies tragically.
Carmilla:
Um. Vampire. Seductress. Sapphic

Round 2, Match 12: Roy Mustang vs. Abraham van Helsing
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Submitted kids:
Roy Mustang: Edward and Alphonse Elric
Abraham van Helsing: Jonathan "Jack" "John" Seward, Quincey P. Morris, Arthur Holmwood, Lucy Westenra, Jonathan Harker, Mina Murray-Harker
Propaganda under the cut!
1. “This pathetic cringefail loser of a man managed to raise and guide two traumatized children into becoming well-adjusted adults. He also gets bonus points because those kids end up saving the world from disaster.
Also he’s hot sometimes”
2. “He has two(2) sons!!!!! Weird little traumatized children!!!! He’s also soooo dad shaped(a mass murderer)!!!! He such a loser too!! I love him so much I wanna chew on him <3”
3. “ok i'm not into fma buts its a popular source and my oomfs r into it and i hear a lot about them. like top five things i hear about whenever i hear them talk about fma. hashtag war criminal family swag”
Abraham van Helsing:
“He's just a father figure. I know there's a lot of contention over his exact feelings towards them all, but he's a father figure to some of us. He's a *dad* and outright *says* in text he sees at *least* Arthur and Lucy like his children (more specifically Arthur as being similar to his son, had he got to grow up, and Lucy as a package deal because they were engaged) but I can have this please.”

this is a new tournament style blog based off of @mysterycharacterbracket and @badlysummedupmoviestournament
people will submit “propaganda” or a description of the novel or play or narrative poetry and the actual play/book/poem
only i will know what the play/poem/book is, people will only see the description as the point is that it’s a mystery! so don’t include super recognizable names or similar things
for example you could say “a prince” but avoid saying “hamlet” to keep it a bit of a mystery
descriptions/“propaganda” can be as detailed or vague as you want so long as they follow the rules!
i also want to keep this warm and welcoming so submissions including swears will be deleted immediately
you can submit as many submissions/descriptions as you want
what counts as classic or literature is a very contested thing and if it’s not widely accepted as classic literature decisions will be made on a case by case basis
i will create a google form for submissions and post it shortly, submissions will stay open for an undetermined time. i will see how things go and decide accordingly

@the-queer-classic-lit-ship-ever I promised you a dickxperry real masterpost as propaganda and now you're getting it
Disclaimer: I DO NOT SHIP THIS (they're murderers and it's kind of RPF), only find it very textually interesting. Also, I know it's considered nonfiction, but I've read In Cold Blood and read up on the controversy surround it, and in my opinion it should really be considered fiction. Everything I say about them from this point onward reflects Capote-canon and is not necessarily reflective of actual events. Here's the ask where I elaborated slightly on considering it fiction but feel free to ask for more context I know too much about this book.
Propaganda/Evidence below the cut (all page numbers are in reference to my eddition of ICB)
Perry canonically admitted to being attracted to Dick: "Dick's literalness, his pragmatic approach to every subject, was the primary reason Perry had been so attracted to him, for it made Dick seem, compared to himself, so authentically tough, invulnerable, 'totally masculine.'" (p. 16)
They are described as "[like] two dues setting off on a double date", and considering Capote was gay himself, this feels like subtext to me.
Dick describes becoming friends with Perry like this: "he had proceeded to woo Perry, flatter him." (p. 55)
They call each other pet names. Many examples, but "Sure, honey. I'm with you all the way" (Dick to Perry, p. 100) and "Welcome home honey" (Dick to Perry when he gets out of the hospital, p. 320) make me scream extra loud.
Someone once gifted Perry basically nudes of Dick: "The sketchbook, which Otto gave perry as a parting gift, contained several drawings of Dick--'nude studies'" (p. 119)
That time Perry freaks the heck out because he think's Dick's been arrested, and when he finds out they haven't he calls Dick's voice "like an injection of some potent narcotic" and then they go to dinner together and Dick calls him "honey" again (p. 194-196)
That time Perry admitted to quadruple homicide to save Dick from it (he claims it was for the benefit of Dick's family but LITERALLY WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT! A lot of actual serial killer couples won't try to take the blame for each other) (p. 255)
Perry constantly thinks about Dick while in jail and writes about it in his diary, describing him as "virile." (p. 259)
Writes that "all preparations must include [Dick]" in his escape plan. (p. 265)
That time some other guys in the prison with them are talking about wanting to have sex with Perry and Dick implies agreement "'[Andy] says he'd like to squeeze Perry a little. I don't blame him'...Hickock chuckled ruefully [and] shrugged." (p. 334)
TLDR: Truman Capote was insane for this book, to say nothing of how he also kinda sorta developed hybristophilia while working with Perry on this book. I hope this breaks you as much as it broke me 😋

Ok I’ve decided I’m gonna hop on the tournament bandwagon so here I go!
Hello, and welcome to The Gay Disney Games, where we pit creations of the homophobic company against each other to see who gives off the most queer vibes. I’m planning to hold a few different tournaments over the summer, but the one I’m planning to start with is…
What is the most queer-coded Disney movie?
Rules:
It’s not just gay vibes! Anything under the lgbtq umbrella is good! (ie. Mulan being trans coded)
Only Disney and Pixar movies! So no Marvel or Star Wars or whatever else
No bigotry of any kind- especially homophobia, transphobia, or aphobia (this is an lgbtq tourney it’s an all or nothing deal)
Sequels and remakes are able to be submitted, but the spot will likely go to whichever movie in the franchise received the most submission
Beauty and the Beast (1991) is already in, since it’s what inspired me to make the tournament, so you don’t have to submit it!
Submissions Form
Tagging for exposure: @who-do-i-know-this-man @tnt-tourney @character-of-all-time @handsomestwomantournament @autismxadhdtournament @autismswagsummit @sea-animal-bracket @stem-sister-scuffle @mfshipbracket @fuckingstupidbracket @ultimate-word-tournament @ultimate-blorbo-bracket @tournament-winners-tournament @bestanimatedmovie @the-queer-classic-lit-ship-ever @the-nobody-tournament @worlds-worst-dad-competition

Prestwald Hall
Hi guys!!
I'm sharing Prestwald Hall . This is the 9th building for my English Manors Collection, and I will add many more!
House History: Prestwold Hall was, for many years, the seat of the Packe family. Before that time, it was the home of the Skipwith family. After the death of Major Robert Christopher Packe (born c.1783) - one time Aide-de-camp to King George III - who was killed during the Battle of Waterloo, the hall passed to his nephew George Hussey Packe who held the hall and estate until his death in 1874.
The Hall was remodelled by architect William Burn in 1842–1844, incorporating the fabric of a mid-18th-century H-plan house. It was Grade I listed in 1951.
One of the finest rooms inside the house is the Entrance Hall with its richly coloured marbled plaster work in the Italian style. The painted ceiling was inspired by Raphael’s Vatican grotesques and incorporates miniature landscapes, showing the house before and after its remodelling between 1842 and 1844. Below the ceiling, wreathing the room, are small medallion busts of the poets from Chaucer to Scott, positioned in the spandrels and are likely inspired by Alberti's external arcade at the Tempio Malatestiano in Rimini. An arcade opens on to a vaulted corridor leading to a top lit inner hall: these spaces also marbled. Off the corridor, the cantilevered stone staircase survives from the eighteenth century house, and was given its bracketed brass balusters by William Wilkins (1751-1815) in 1805.
The Dining Room, added by Wilkins in 1805, was incorporated into the remodelling undertaken by the Scottish architect William Burn in 1842. The room is overlooked by two dramatic full length portraits of Sir Edward Hussey Packe, KBE (1878 – 1946) and the Hon. Lady Mary Sydney Packe (née Colebrooke, 1890 – 1973) by the painter Glyn Philpot RA (1844 – 1947). The portrait of Lady Packe, painted in 1911, was described by the art historian Robin Gibson OBE as an ‘amazing feat of virtuosity’. Its elongated elegance and introspective characterisation is totally without the fashion-plate vulgarity of much Edwardian portraiture. Other portraits hang in this room of the Packe family including a painting of Sir Christopher Packe (1595 – 1682) who purchased the house in the 17th century painted by Cornelis Janssens van Ceulen (1593 –1661).
The library extends nearly the entire length of the house when the large doors that separate it from the drawing room are opened, connecting the two rooms. With clever use of constructional steel, William Burn was able to create these long adjoining rooms. The windows rise from floor level and open onto the garden which enhances the notion that Prestwold was designed in the style of an Italian classical villa. The doors and bookcases in library were made for George Hussey Packe (1846–1908) by Gillows of Lancaster and London in 1875.
A conservatory fills the recessed central bay at the front of the house, and projects out towards the garden. Behind the glass and elegant Doric pilasters, are well planted raised beds with a number of exotic plants and flowers

Classic Literature Sexyperson Tournament; Round 1
Tumblr media Tumblr media
propaganda:
Quincey:
quincey deserves #1 sexyman prize. he is the token cowboy. in a gothlit book. his first instinct when in danger in to randomly shoot through windows to (scare the shit out of) protect his friends. he decided he would literally die for a group of people he met like 3 hours ago because they seemed nice enough. he's texan for christ's sake. tropes: angst (dead), bait, distinctive voice, LGTBQ+ coded (dracula polycule is canon bram told me so), himbo (-ish), well dressed (cowboy).
Dracula:
owwsaawoagghb. older gentleman who is very regal and polite and is a fucking vampire how much sexier can you get
Obv everyone knows vampire sexy. The sensuality of drinking blood is *chef's kiss*. But I just really wanted an excuse to share this one thing, that isn't even related directly to the novel. So, my junior year of high school we read Dracula, and then our class went on a field trip to see a local theatre group perform the Dracula stage play-- and EVERY TIME Dracula came on stage, his neckline would progressively dip Lower and Lower (like. Comedically so) until he was soooo close to showing just straight up tiddie, but still juuuust barely not-- the tease was immaculate and istg it was doing Something for everyone in the audience. It was transcendent. An awakening. Even all these years later when my old high school friends and I bring it up, the only detail we can remember from that performance is Count Dracula's plunging neckline and that's Gotta count for something right

Round 2, Match 5: August vs. Claude Frollo
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Submitted kids:
August: Hisoka Mikage, Chikage Utsuki
Claude Frollo: Jehan and Quasimodo
Propaganda under the cut!
August:
1. "august is the adoptive older brother of hisoka mikage and chikage utsuki. for context, these characters are all spies, and were invited into the organisation by august. (also known as misha sometimes). hisoka is december, and chikage is april! their collective group name in fanon is ""gekkagumi.""
the first interaction we see of him in game is him adopting hisoka off the street. he was a dying homeless child, and august invited him to join the organisation. at first he declined, but august kept coming back to him until he followed (despite chikage's protests about it) he fed fed hisoka gingerbread, and declared ""we're a family now.""
chikage was adopted before hisoka, but we only learned more about it later in the story. chikage was living in a ""facility"" when he runs into august who lives in the organisation.
despite their very harsh life, august really did everything he could to give hisoka and chikage the best life he could. he loved the idea of family, and always encouraged them to celebrate christmas and birthdays, and play games!
august had a cover job where he owned a candy store. despite it just being a cover, august loved it and had a genuine care for the children. he used to give away free sweets to the point his shop was actively going out of business, and whenever he saw a sad kid he'd try his best to cheer them up. people around the town came in just to talk to him, to the point where hisoka said when he was covering the shop for him, the first thing people would ask was ""where's misha?""
in his shop, he also used to have a myth that if you wrote a wish on a certain brand of cookie's wrapper, the wish would come true. august spoke excitedly of the wishes kids would wish for.
events in the story lead up to august's untimely death. years later, hisoka runs into a kid who used to go to his shop. this child had wished to be a painter, and was now painting. he actually ended up in possession of a wrapper august wrote on which said ""a happy family."" however, the boy couldn't read japanese and didn't know what it said. despite that, he held onto the wrapper for years after august's disappearance. he also manages to draw a picture of him from memory. :(("
2. “he's so . gwahh he just wants to give them a nice family”
Claude Frollo:
“Jehan's Claude's baby brother he raised after their parents die (Claude is 18/19 by then, and something like 37 during the books) and he doesn't kill Quasimodo's Mom in the original. Instead, he takes in Quasi, who has been left on the cathedrale's doorsteps. (Don't worry he also has a lot of faults and you still wouldn't want him to raise your kids)”
