As I move forward in my therapy and adult life, I think it's important to take a moment to recognize everything and to share my struggle to help combat the stigma against talking about mental health. The quote above is one I heard watching the show several years ago during one of my deeper depressive episodes, and so many of these last years have just been about getting by and hiding behind being rather “high functioning” to the outside world while a closer look showed anything but just getting through another day. But I am finally to a point where I want more, and a point that I don't need to just struggle through anymore. Instead of just treating the depression with my medication, I'm current transitioning to one that will hopefully combat my much longer-underlying anxiety disorder that has contributed to all aspects of my mental health. It's scary, stopping** a medication that got me through some very rough patches, but it hasn't been enough and I want to do more than just survive. I want to thrive and actually enjoy the things I love again. This is another step in my journey, and I hope it will prove to be a good one.
