This afternoon, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) introduced articles of impeachment against two corrupt far-right judicial activists sitting on the Supreme Court: Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito. The articles of impeachment against SCOTUS Justices Thomas and Alito have no chance of passage in the GOP-controlled House.
Summary of the impeachment charges against Alito and Thomas, via Rep. Ocasio-Cortez’s Congressional website:
The first impeachment resolution includes the following impeachment articles against Justice Thomas:
Failure to disclose financial income, gifts and reimbursements, property interests, liabilities, and transactions, among other information.
Refusal to recuse from matters concerning his spouse’s legal interest in cases before the court.
Refusal to recuse from matters involving his spouse’s financial interest in cases before the court.
The second impeachment resolution includes the following impeachment articles against Justice Alito:
Refusal to recuse from cases in which he had a personal bias or prejudice concerning a party in cases before the court.
Failure to disclose financial income, gifts and reimbursements, property interests, liabilities, and transactions, among other information.
This afternoon, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) introduced articles of impeachment against corrupt and unethical far-right judicial activists Samuel Alito and Clarence Thomas that currently sit on the nation's highest court.
AOC is correct: these two corrupt far-right judicial activists deserve to be impeached and removed from the court for their unethical conduct on the bench.

Clarence Thomas secretly accepted luxury trips from a major GOP donor
Island-hopping on a superyacht. Private jet rides around the world. The undisclosed gifts to Thomas have no known precedent in the modern history of the Supreme Court. “It’s incomprehensible to me that someone would do this,” says one former judge.
IN LATE JUNE 2019, right after the U.S. Supreme Court released its final opinion of the term, Justice Clarence Thomas boarded a large private jet headed to Indonesia. He and his wife were going on vacation: nine days of island-hopping in a volcanic archipelago on a superyacht staffed by a coterie of attendants and a private chef.
If Thomas had chartered the plane and the 162-foot yacht himself, the total cost of the trip could have exceeded $500,000. Fortunately for him, that wasn’t necessary: He was on vacation with real estate magnate and Republican megadonor Harlan Crow, who owned the jet — and the yacht, too.

For more than two decades, Thomas has accepted luxury trips virtually every year from the Dallas businessman without disclosing them, documents and interviews show. A public servant who has a salary of $285,000, he has vacationed on Crow’s superyacht around the globe. He flies on Crow’s Bombardier Global 5000 jet. He has gone with Crow to the Bohemian Grove, the exclusive California all-male retreat, and to Crow’s sprawling ranch in East Texas. And Thomas typically spends about a week every summer at Crow’s private resort in the Adirondacks.
The extent and frequency of Crow’s apparent gifts to Thomas have no known precedent in the modern history of the U.S. Supreme Court.
These trips appeared nowhere on Thomas’ financial disclosures. His failure to report the flights appears to violate a law passed after Watergate that requires justices, judges, members of Congress and federal officials to disclose most gifts, two ethics law experts said. He also should have disclosed his trips on the yacht, these experts said.

If you really like the current direction of the US Supreme Court, then vote for a third-party presidential candidate who has ZERO chance of winning and therefore no chance of ever nominating a SCOTUS justice.

Thomas supported Donald Trump during his presidency, offering the administration recommendations on individuals to hire through her work with the conservative Groundswell group. Following Joe Biden's victory in the 2020 presidential election, she repeatedly urged Trump's chief of staff Mark Meadows to take steps to overturn the result. Thomas also emailed state lawmakers in Arizona and Wisconsin, urging them to ignore the results of the 2020 presidential election and vote instead for an alternate slate of electors.

At a judicial conference in May Justice Thomas said of himself and his wife Ginni, "there's certainly been a lot of negativity in our lives, my wife and I, over the last few years, but we choose not to focus on it." Yeah, I remember that time I tried to foment a coup d’etat, then the coup failed, and then absolutely nothing legally was done to me.

Nikki McCann Ramírez at Rolling Stone:
After a summer of scrutiny of the ethical practices of Supreme Court justices and their spouses, Ginni Thomas is once again proving the need for reform within the court.  Thomas — the wife of Justice Clarence Thomas — has lavished praise on a legal group opposing the Biden administration’s efforts to introduce a binding code of ethics to the Supreme Court.  ProPublica reported on Wednesday that Kelly Shackelford, president and CEO of First Liberty Institute, read an email from Thomas during a July 31 phone call with major donors to the conservative political group.  “YOU GUYS HAVE FILLED THE SAILS OF MANY JUDGES. CAN I JUST TELL YOU, THANK YOU SO, SO, SO MUCH,” Thomas wrote in the email, in praise of First Liberty’s work opposing efforts to strengthen justices ethical obligations to the public.  Shackelford told donors that the email was an affirmation of the work they were doing on behalf of judges who “can’t go out into the political sphere and fight.”
“It’s neat that, you know, those of you on the call are a part of protecting the future of our court, and they really appreciate it,” he added.
If Shackelford’s views weren’t explicit enough, he went on to attack Justice Elena Kagan as “treasonous” and “disloyal” for advocating for an external mechanism of enforcement of the Supreme Court’s ethics guidelines.  The battle over Supreme Court ethics reform intensified in May after Justice Samuel Alito refused to recuse himself from cases related to Jan. 6 despite reports that the justice had flown flags associated with the movement to overturn the 2020 election results outside of his residences.  Alito blamed his wife, Martha-Ann Alito, for flying one of the flag’s outside of the couple’s home.  Mrs. Alito is by no means the first Supreme Court spouse to invite controversy into the court. Ginni Thomas has plenty of her own links to the 2020 “Stop the Steal” movement, and has been a party in the scandal surrounding her husband’s relationship with influential conservative billionaires.
Ginni Thomas, the wife of SCOTUS Justice Clarence Thomas, gave praise to right-wing legal group First Liberty Institute for opposing SCOTUS Ethics reforms such as the proposal for a binding ethics code.

“Days like today are the whole reason right-wing billionaires have spent years, and billions of dollars, rigging the Supreme Court.”
The linked article from the tweet goes in depth exploring Section 3 of the 14th Amendment, and the constitutionality of whether or not it is appropriate to use the Insurrection Clause against Trump. But that analysis completely misses the point: Ginni Thomas was (and still is) herself an integral part of the January 6th Insurrection, and as such, Clarence Thomas should not be allowed to rule on the case. In a just world, Clarence Thomas would recuse himself, or there would be some mechanism to force his recusal.
At any rate, prepare to be disappointed. I listened to the arguments live, and it sure sounds like even the “liberal” justices were in agreement with the conservatives appointed by Trump; that Colorado overstepped its authority — I vehemently disagree with that. In light of Trump’s words + actions leading up to the Insurrection, Colorado absolutely made the right call. Republicans always like to whine about “states rights” until they don’t like what the state wants to do, like protecting a person’s right to choose abortion.
That all said, begrudgingly, I dO understand the “why” behind what I think their decision will be: imagine an America where the so-called “former” Confederate States of the south were routinely removing the Democratic candidates from their state ballots. Not that this Colorado decision will stop them from trying to do so anyway, but that would be total anarchy (and not the good kind).
On the bright side, if Colorado loses this case, as I think they will, there is still enough time left for them to remove Trump from their ballot but this time, proactively use whatever arguments SCOTUS used against them. But admittedly, that’s a long shot.
Bringing it back home though, the ever germane question isn’t if Colorado was right - the relevant question here is if Clarence Thomas should have recused himself. In a more just timeline, he and other biased justices would willingly recuse themselves or be forcibly removed from cases where they have obvious conflicts of interest. Almost every consideration after the question of recusal is irrelevant.
