Very much a slow burn this episode which scares me even more for the finale next week

Someone correct me if I'm being slow here, but with a mafia leader like Darius I just don't see how he'd let TLR even have a chance of bringing that much focus on them if he tried to kill Catherine. It'd be bad for business and possibly get them all caught.

Richard is again taking far too many chances, I'm standing by my prediction that he'll die.

As brutal as it was I felt glad that Ann finally told off Ryan. There's been too many ppl tiptoeing around the truth for him and it doesn't help. Yes it's incredibly frustrating that this kid makes the worst decisions you've ever seen but if no one tells him WHY everyone hates TLR then he's unable to fully get it.

Truly wonderful acting from Charlie Murphy. Such a short scene and so powerful.

Speaking of great acting: every single scene with Sarah Lancashire and Siobhan Finneran is amazing. Heartbreaking, and you don't really know if they can ever come back from this. I hope so (given both survive). It's also a testament to SW's writing that after the betrayal you can see how alone they each are without each other.

Will TLR find Catherine or will she come for him first? He said something about waiting till Monday I believe, so maybe her going on the offensive will take him by surprise.

Will Ryan drag his head out of his ass?

I think the youngest daughter who always wears her jacket will be the one to take down Hepworth. He might not have killed Joanna but he was still an abusive asshole, so good riddance.

Faisal will get caught bc of the diazepam.

Will the enforcer guy get married? Guessing not.

Will the Knezivices get taken down? I don't think we have time for all that with one episode left. :(

You know whose deaths hit me the most in TSC? The characters that we just barely saw before their lives were cut short. The ones that don't get brought up much and we don't see a ton of grief over in most of the books. The ones you can't even really find fanart for. It's characters like...

Jon Cartwright - I hated Jon Cartwright in Tales From the Shadowhunter Academy. Then I loved him so much it hurt. He began as this elitist, thick necked lunk that you were designed to intensely dislike from the start. He went from regularly spewing awful things about Downworlders and harassing the dregs in the Academy to a guy who carried Marisol Garza's lunch tray around while she told him about mundane culture and who the Cohort hated in TDA. A guy who cried whenever they would reminisce about George, a mundane who failed to ascend. He showed so much growth, could have been such a help in reforming the members of the Cohort.

George Lovelace - Where do I even start with George? It was impossible not to root for him. He was such a constant friend for Simon in that shaky time when he didn't have his memories and was finding his way. He was so kind and there was so much potential to explore his character further in the successive books. For him to be a solid reference of an ascended mundane who turned into a true Shadowhunter hero. Then it all ended before it could even truly start even though his flower card reads future promise. George Lovelace, you deserved so much better, you will always have a place in my heart.

Max Lightwood - With Max, I know that we do see people grieve over him in the books but it just hits me so hard how much potential he had, all the things he didn't get to do. How we didn't get to fall in love with his siblings-in-laws Clary and Simon who would have taken him to Forbidden Planet and turned him into a proper nerd. How he never got to meet Magnus or the Alec that was sure of himself. How he didn't get to be a part of the TWP gang who he was the same age as. My heart aches at the loss of all those special moments that never to be for Max Lightwood.

Julie Beauvale - I don't know why, but her death hit me the hardest in TDA even though it was only touched on briefly in two separate paragraphs (which I know sounds insane because of everything that happened at the end of LoS and into QOAAD). It's just, she had such an arc. Like, she was traumatized by seeing her sister die at the hands of a faerie and clearly hated them deeply when she first arrived at the Academy. She was also very classist/elitist. But did she stay like that? No, no she didn't. Through the friendships she made at the Academy she changed and let go of that part of her. Julie fought for Livvy's watch in QOAAD even though she almost definitely would have been a Cohort member if it wouldn't have been for her time at the Academy and meeting Simon. So how did her story end? By intercepting an arrow that was shot by a faerie and meant for his faerie brother. Her life coming to a close because of the people she had spent so much of her life hating but came to respect and appreciate to the point that her last moments were spent fighting against people whose entire identity was based around hating them. It was just such an awful full circle moment.

Hello everyone! Sorry for the late post. I got some questions about whether we were doing it this year, well here we are! Here are our prompts! All forms of media are welcome for the week (Ex: Fanfic, fanart, aesthetics, playlists, HCs, etc.), we're just happy to see people celebrate Grace and Christopher. This year we're going to try prompts instead of different forms of content like we did the last two (2022), (2023) years. Please tag your posts #gracetopherweek 2024 and or #gracetopherweek. Here are the prompts!

Day 1: Free Day

As an apology for not posting the prompts pretty late and not giving everyone a lot of time to prepare. Have an open first day to get started <3

Day 2: Christopher Lives

I think we all know he deserved better. This week we're pretending he and Grace lived happily ever after post CoT.

Day 3: Teaching/Learning

Doesn't necessarily have to be a skill of any kind, they could also just be learning different things from one another, whether it's general knowledge or character growth of some kind.

Day 4: Night ________

Sort of a fill in the blank prompt. Some examples: Night patrol, nightmare/night terror, night time, night out, etc.

Day 5: First

They didn't get enough moments together. Give them some classics! First dance, first kiss, first date, first "I love you". If you're a smut writer you know what I'm going to say. Be creative! Lots of relationships have firsts, including friendships, which gracetopher has a great foundation for (you could say they have chemistry). Have fun with this one!

Day 6: Grief

Doesn't have to be Christopher, just to clarify. This can be interpreted as a hurt/comfort prompt as well. Be as angsty or un-angsty(?) as you want. Have fun!

Day 7: New Beginnings

After Chain of Thorns, there's so much opportunity for these two. There are so many ways they could have had a future together. They're both obviously quite new to relationships too, so don't be afraid to make that part of this prompt too. Moving in together, making a discovery of some sort, creating their first invention, or even getting married, etc. are some examples for this prompt if you're confused. Have fun!

Christopher might be alive

I saw a post a few days ago arguing very convincingly why Christopher might actually be alive and I wanted to add some arguments to it, but can't find it anymore. So I'm now making my own post about this. If you are more talented than me in finding this post, please tag whoever wrote it in the comments. Thank you.

Little disclaimer: I didn't look anything up in the books, because I don't have them with me. So there might be something I don't remember correctly. Please point that out in the comments if this is the case.

So, as stated, I believe that Christopher might not have died (at least not fully*) by the poison from Tatiana's dagger. Here are some arguments why I think so.

*He could have become a vampire after his death, as mentioned in said post I can't find anymore. The author of the post wrote that vampire blood could have been part of the poison, causing Christopher to go to the nearest vampire clan and get bitten by them.

Christopher's appearance in the whole book series: He is the main character with the least POVs (does he even have one?) and "screen time", even though he is a main character. That might indicate that he could become important in future books like TWP or the book about Matthew, to make the screen time more even. He also has almost no character development because his character is already good as it is. This might change or get more attention in a future book.

Christopher's appearance to Grace in the laboratory 1: First of all how random, that no other character in all of Cassie's books ever had an appearance like this even in way more challenging situations. Could this actually happen? Secondly, in this scene, Christopher asks Grace not to turn around to see him. Why would he do that if he was only a ghost or not even visible. I mean that would be the first thing I would expect to see if someone, who I think is dead, starts talking to me. Grace wouldn't be scared by that. But if he was actually alive or in a very... uh... unpretty condition... like for example that he somehow turned into a downworlder (vampire) and looks rather bloody, that could scare Grace, especially since she thinks he would be dead. So he warns her not to turn around. Now you might say: But the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice that was addressed by Grace, wouldn't that be the reason? That is just what Grace thinks of at that moment, but not the reason Christopher gives. Of I remember correctly, he gives no reason, just says "Don't turn around", and Grace listens.

Laboratory scene Part 2 - Orpheus and Eurydice parallel: As mentioned above, Grace thinks of this myth when she encounters Christmas in the laboratory. In the myth Orpheus basically tries to bring his beloved wife (?) Eurydice back from the dead. He manages to convince her soul to follow him out of the Underworld, but he has to promise her not to turn around until they manage to escape. Almost out of the Land of the Dead, Orpheus gets too noisy and turns around. So, he fails and Eurydice has to stay dead in the Underworld. But opposing to this myth Grace doesn't turn around to look at Christopher, which, according to that myth would mean that she brought him back from the dead successfully.

Cassie's theories before the book was published: If I remember correctly Cassie gave us three statements about what would happen in COT, two of them being true. I think it was something with Belial and flying over London as a bird (true), one of the main characters dying (true?) and one of then turning into a downworlder (wrong?). While everyone at the time thought that was about Matthew, it now applies to Christopher. Why would she choose the downworlder theory, if she didn't actually think about making one of her characters one. And we know Cassie. She always has some surprise fir us, especially when a character like Christopher just randomly dies.

Motive for his death: There is none. While everyone else who dies, dies for a reason, Christopher's death seems so random and even at the end of the book, you won't find out why he died. This means that we probably get at least another mention of Christopher somewhere, to explain why he had to die.

Immortality as a vampire: As mentioned above, another mention or appearance of Christopher and Grace seems likely to me. But four of the five books we know about that Cassie will publish in the future, play a century later. So, to appear in them, Christopher and Grace must either invent time travel or become immortal. All the Harry Potter fans know what a mess happens when you add time travelling to a story. And I TWP there's also Thule and the Faerie Lands as different worlds, so that would just get to confusing. Therefore my guess is that if they actually appear, they would be immortal. The only way to become immortal as a Shadowhunter is to be bitten by a vampire. So, Christopher could have been bitten by a vampire, while "dead" and unattended and after months of struggles, came back to Grace. Grace, having nothing to lose, chooses to join Christopher and lets him bite her as well. If they tell their friends or not, is actually not quite important, but like this they could appear for example in TWP, to give the main characters some advice or help them with something. I mean, in a Grande Finale of a universe, the help of two science obsessed, former Shadowhunter vampires might be great.

Nobody is dealing with the aftermath: No funeral, no great remembering of Christopher, nothing. This might indicate that something happened that made it unnecessary for this to happen. Like, you know, Christopher actually being alive.

Here are also arguments I can think of, that would make it less likely for Christopher to be alive:

He's dead. Very dead. Anna literally said it. (But on the other hand, medical knowledge back then was not as good as it is today and they all were super shocked. They might have missed a sign that he was actually alive.)

Why would Cassie do that to us? (She did it with Livvy. Why not again? Just a little less destructive.)

I can't think if any other reasons right now, but if you have more arguments for this or even against it, please leave them in the comments or repost this. I will add the arguments here if you want to.

Grace sexually assaulted teenage boys under mind control but yes let’s romanticize her TSC fandom because she’s ✨pretty✨

actually, she was forced (sometimes directly, sometimes indirectly) to those actions by tatiana. throughout the books it’s mentioned that grace has had no romantic interest in james and that she doesn’t want this relationship with him. in the flashbacks it’s made clear that she much rather stay friends with him, it’s even mentioned that she doesn’t mind the idea of james being in love with cordelia at all and she kept trying to break him free of the bracelet, several times before he managed to free himself - here it is important to note that everytime she returned the bracelet to jamie she was forced to do so and either her own life / safety was threatened or jesse’s.

this is a very nuanced situation and though it maybe hard to comprehend, grace was forced into this situation, in a different way from jamie, yes, but forced non the less.

now as for matthew, ive always hated that scene, but i also understand that grace felt like she had no other option and this was the first thing that came to her mind to keep matthew off her back. she was raised by tatiana in a way that she only knew her feminine charms as a weapon, literally, so that’s what she used on matthew (i imagine to her it is no different than a blade, not that it excuses anything).

again i feel like every bad thing she has done can be lead back and blamed on tatiana, or belial in some instances. she grew up in an abusive household with a mentally unstable and cruel women to “raise” her, that constantly threatened her, belittled and bullied her, not to mention groomed her to be her right hand women; and later when tatiana was temporarily out of the picture (after being attacked by a demon and later while being imprisoned) belial took over and threatened jesse’s safety.

throughout the book when grace powers are elaborated and how tatiana forced her to practice them on mundane men and then use them on james it is always stated that she does not enjoy using her powers, she sees herself as jamie’s friend and has his best interest at heart - while still trying to protect herself and her brother (again she initially didn’t even tell tatiana for that her powers didn’t work on james and tries to take back the bracelet twice to free him.). this is to me especially underlined by her interaction with christoper in chain of iron, where she knows she could let him do her bidding and force him to help her but she states clearly that she doesn’t want to do that.

i do think that the matthew situation was a little different as it wasn’t directly ordered by tatiana but rather an action that grace did on her own, but to me it is a cry for help, grace doesn’t know how to help herself unless it is through her powers so even though i do not condone that one specific action i do unterstand why she did it.

and lastly, i wanted to mention again how grace is very much a victim of her circumstances and she was forced into the relationship with james just as much as he was, only she wasn’t brainwashed. also cassandra clare very much wanted grace to be a complex character rather than just a morally good character and called her actions morally grey on several occasions.

one last thing i want to clarify: i never, ever romanticized the sexual assault any of the characters went through. i believe you, anon, wrote me this ask after i compared her to suki waterhouse. this comparison: 1) started out as a joke and clearly labelled as such, and 2) is just two blonde girls in white dresses. the original post had nothing to do with grace’s characterisation, actions and least of all the brainwashing of any of the male characters

Marisol and Jon: A Love Story in Scenes

Marisol stared at him, her gaze clear and cold. "They told me," she said, "that I was going to fight." She had been taking fencing classes since she could walk, as it turned out. She cut him off at the knees and left him literally in the dust, stumbling as a tiny, swordy whirlwind came at him across the practice grounds, and falling. "Went a little too easy on her," Jon said, passing by and helping Simon up. "The dregs won't learn if they're not taught, you know." His voice was kind; his glance at Marisol was not.

I'll teach you some lessons down in the training grounds," Jon snapped. "I could challenge you to a duel. Watch your mouth." "That's not a bad idea," remarked Marisol. "Oh, hey now," said Beatriz. "Duels with fourteen-year-olds are a bad idea." Everyone looked with scorn upon Beatriz, the voice of reason. Marisol sniffed. "Not a duel. A challenge. If the elites beat us in a challenge, then they get to speak out first in class for a week. If we beat them, then they hold their tongues." "I'll do it, and you'll be sorry you ever suggested it, mundie. What's the challenge?" Jon asked. "Staff, sword, bow, dagger work, a horse race, a boxing match? I'm ready!" Marisol smiled sweetly. "Baseball." Simon had the feeling Marisol was going to be a terrifying, tiny expert on baseball, the same was she was at fencing. He also had the feeling the elite stream was in for a surprise.

"So, I don't explain modern medicine to you, and then a medical emergency occurs to me. I could be solved with the application of a little first aid, but you don't know that, and so I die. I die at your feet. Is that what you want, Jon?" "No," said Jon. "What's first aid? Is there a...second aid?" "I can't believe you're going to let me die when my death could so easily be avoided, if you had just listened," Marisol went on mercilessly. "Okay, okay! I'll listen." "Great. Get me some juice, because I'll be talking for a while. I'm still very hurt that you even considered letting me die," Marisol added as Jon scrambled up and made for the side of the room where the unappetizing food and potentially poisonous drinks were laid out. "I thought Shadowhunters had a mandate to protect mundanes!" Marisol shouted after him. "Not orange juice. I want apple juice!" "Would you believe," said Catarina, appearing at Magnus's elbow, "that the Cartwright kid was the biggest bully in the Academy?" "Seems like he met a bigger bully," Magnus murmured.

What do you thin we'll have to do?" (A bit later) Marisol whacked Jon's shoulder. "Shut up, idiot," she said. But she said it rather too lovingly for Simon's taste. (A bit later) Jon took her hand, and Simon expected her to slap him, but instead she squeezed tight. "It's from Sunil," she said in a tight, angry voice. She passed the note to Simon. "I guess he 'considered his options.'"
