Just found out that Manhattan has their own “version” of clam chowder and it’s just… tomato soup with clams in it. New England clam chowder is thick and buttery and unique and all sorts of wonderful things and Manhattan just… took a preexisting kind of soup, put clams in it and called it a chowder. This is fucking embarrassing. I want to cry for the N*w Y*rkers because they don’t have a clue what they’re missing in their lives. That’s why they hate us with such vitriol. That’s why they’re such assholes. I get it now. I am so sorry, N*w Y*rk. Sorry for your local cuisine’s lack of diversity. Sorry that you don’t know how to make a real clam chowder and that you just put clams in your soup to feel like your lives are less empty.
I’d be an asshole too if my seafood were shit and I had to eat Panera Bread bullshit every time I wanted seafood. You all are misunderstood and hurting, broken people. My heart goes out to all of you.
I don't even like real clam chowder and I KNOW that the Manhattan shit is an affront to all things decent. The audacity to call their seafood tomato soup chowder also shows a severe lack of understanding of what a chowder is.

Bacon and Bleu Sirloin Steak and Clam Chowder
Although I frequently remark that a wonderful steak doesn't require much more than salt and pepper, this creamy blue cheese and bacon sauce certainly doesn't hurt. It begins with a base of butter-caramelized onions, which intensifies their savory-nutty flavor and gives the finished sauce weight.
True, nuts are high in fat, but most of them contain monounsaturated fat that is good for the heart. In fact, eaten in moderation, nuts can lower your risk of heart disease and heart attack - Andrew Well

random willow thoughts copy-pasted directly from my ramblings in discord
1 - i think she is generally kind of a shitty member of the camp. she can be flakey at best with chores, and struggles to handle long term interaction with other people. to cope with this, she spends most of her time off on her own. the most reliable time to get ahold of her is at night, where she is almost always keeping the campfire burning throughout the dark of the night.
2 - bernie in some way responds to both her sanity level and her amount of negative emotion. he won't become hostile unless willow perceives something as a threat. he isn't sentient, really, but more of an extention of her.
3 - she attempted adventure mode sometimes for fun, but never took it seriously and didn't usually last very long. too cold in all of those harsh winter worlds.
3.5 - on the note of winter, on her own she rarely made it past winter. she had a bad habit of never really settling down, burning both ends of the candle so to speak as she rambled and roamed across the constant. when she did build a base, it was usually a matter of time before it ended up in smoke. (there have been a handful of incidents where she has burnt down parts of the camp or otherwise caused or almost caused significant damage. this is another reason she usually doesn't stay there very long.
4 - willow likes people, but she genuinely just doesn't understand a lot of social things and was never really taught them either. even if she genuinely wants to be good to someone it will still come out in an odd way.

Cooking like a Sailor - New England Clam Chowder
However, a warm savory steam from the kitchen served to belie the apparently cheerless prospect before us. But when that smoking chowder came in, the mystery was delightfully explained. Oh, sweet friends! hearken to me. It was made of small juicy clams, scarcely bigger than hazel nuts, mixed with pounded ship biscuit, and salted pork cut up into little flakes; the whole enriched with butter, and plentifully seasoned with pepper and salt. - Moby Dick
What Herman Meville describes here is a very famous New England dish - the clam chowder. A chowder is "a soup or stew of seafood (such as clams or fish) usually made with milk or tomatoes, salt pork, onions and other vegetables". Whilst there are different types of chowder, clam chowder is undoubtedly the best known. The definition of chowder varies depending on the part of the country, but most contain clams, potatoes, onions and some form of pork. Some use milk or another type of broth, but this type of dish was very popular on board ships where it was cooked and served in different ways. According to Savouring Gotham: A Food Lovers Companion to New York City, it is believed that New England chowder was introduced to the region by French, Nova Scotian or British settlers and became a common dish in the region around 1700. The chowder grew in popularity over the years and, according to What's Cooking America, was served in Boston as early as 1836 at Ye Olde Union Oyster House (the oldest continuously operating restaurant in the country).
But let's get to the recipe so you can cosy up at home with your copy of Moby Dick and enjoy a nice serving of clam chowder.
What do you need: 1 small onion 1 kilogram of salted pork 2 medium potatoes 1 1/2 cups of water 1 tin with about 200 grams of mussels 1 bottle with about 350ml mussel juice
1/8 teaspoon of pepper 1 1/2 cup of milk
To prepare:
cut the meat into pieces of about 2.5c and brown in a pan over a medium heat. Then set aside.
chop the onions and fry them in the pan, in the meantime cut the potatoes into small pieces and add them to the onions, cover with water and cook until the potatoes are soft.
add the mussels and their juice and season with pepper. Cook over a medium heat until they are steaming.
Add 1 1/2 cups of milk. Heat over a medium heat for 5 minutes.
Add the meat and serve. Best eaten with ship's biscuits or fresh bread, if available.
Enjoy your meal.

Ok you’ve heard about Manhattan Clam Chowder but what about Rhode Island Clam Chowder, which is exactly the same as New England Clam Chowder but doesn’t use any dairy, so it’s fundamentally inferior.
We’re beset even by those within our own territories
That's just clam soup. Not as egregious, but also just not a chowder

Bought The Official Stardew Valley Cookbook. Tried the (clam) Chowder recipe first. Best clam chowder I've ever had. Better than my gourmet home cook Dad's recipe he's been working on for decades. And full of vegetables.
Half the recipe is just how to clean and cook fresh clams for it. They recommend using fresh peas but also say how to use frozen. Not the clams, though. If you're going to use canned or frozen clams you're on your own (I did.)
Here's a finished bowl of it.
ID: A small glass bowl of off-white clam chowder with green peas and small pieces of orange carrot. It's topped with pea microgreens and fresh fennel leaves. End ID.
Really eager to cook more out of this book because it's all vegetable heavy, seasonal, and has really interesting flavor combinations.
(Apparently it's selling like hotcakes because it just came out and it's already backordered at both Powell's and BookShop.org as of writing this.)
