I never meant to fall into this fandom, but seeing these really stunning pieces of characters in trench coats and got supremely curious. It took approximately two days to fall ass over teakettle into OMNISCIENT READER'S VIEWPOINT hell, because it has absolutely fascinating characters, interesting worldbuilding, a beautifully drawn webtoon, thoughtful plot elements on the nature of stories and the relationship with the audience and--most importantly--it has the kind of character dynamics you immediately want fic. I'm barely past chapter 40 and I was already spoiling myself for the overarching plot because I desperately needed post-canon fic that offered resolution, because everything was already so deliciously intense that I couldn't stand it! So, here I am, having a bunch of knock-out fic to go with the absolute god-tier art that's in the fandom and desperately trying to drag more of you into this with me because it's so good and I think you'd like it and I don't want to be throwing up feelings everywhere and not have you all understand how much these characters mean to me (especially the main character, he is such a skrunkly little asshole whomst I would die for!!!!) even after just forty chapters! Consequences of California Proposition 64 in 2021

When Proposition 64 was put on the ballot in 2016, passed on November 8,  and implemented beginning on November 9, 2016, law enforcement officials warned the public that passing such a measure would create a new criminal culture in California as a result.  The proponents of the measure discounted these claims focusing more on the decrimalization of recreational (and especially medical) use of marijuana.  The measure allows users, 21 years and older, to grow up to 6 live plants per household for personal use, which seems inconsequential in the effort the decriminalize the use of this drug.  But, what proponents ignored and what criminal prosecuters warned about were the provisions that reduced the penalties for many other marijuana offenses.  An unlicensed grower of marijuana who possesses 7 or more plants, no matter how many plants he has in his possession, is no longer guilty of a felony with the penalties attached. That grower is only guilty of a misdemeanor with a maximum fine of $500 whether that grower has 7 plants of 70,000.  Several misdemeanor offenses are now infractions as a result of prop 64.

As District Attorney Jason Anderson explained  at a recent Town Hall Meeting held in San Bernardino County on July 10, 2021, a penalty for criminal activity with such inadequate consequences was primed to create a network of illegal unlicensed marijuana growning operations whose only goal is to undercut the prices or the bottom line of legal growing operations.  These growers are organized enterprises funded by organized crime in the form of drug cartels.  Specifically mentioned were the Mexican, the Chinese, and the Armenian Cartels.  For these cartels, a fine of $500, even if this fine is $500 a day, doesn’t even put a dent in the amount of money produced by these grow farms.  And a misdemeanor charge doesn’t have much “teeth” as a deterrent for those who work for these cartels.

Sheriff John McMahon explained that even when an illegal growning operation is targeted by the department, the scope of the warrant only allows for confiscation of the plants.  All the buildings, grow tents, and equipment remain intact (because it is not illegal to own these items) leaving the basic infrastructure also intact to easily set up the operation again.

The proponents of the new culture created by proposition 64 ask the question, why should this matter?  Why are we prosecuting growers of marijuana when the recreational use of marijuana in California is currently legal?  The problem comes because these illegal growing operations are unregulated.  These growers set up operations on land in communities without zoning approval, often on land in rural areas or near residential housing and schools. Partially because they are unzoned and don’t have building department or other government approval, these illegal operations often steal electricity from the local power lines and water from the local water companies - sometimes even from local home owners.  They use chemical pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizers even many that are banned not only for use in California but nation wide.  The use of these banned chemicals have been known to impact existing water supplies, cause for great concern in San Bernardino County and the rest of California that is currently experiencing drought conditions.  Many in the county are dependent on ancient underground aquifers that, should they become tainted, could render a whole community or region uninhabitable like the city of Hinckley near Barstow.  And this doesn’t even address the impact these illegitimate operations have on the local ecosystems.

What concerned the manager of the Pinon Hills/Phelan CSD is the increase of water use in the community of 36% over water use during the same period last year (in 2020), an increase he said was “unsustainable”.  This increase is directly attributable to illegal marijuana grow farms in the regions.  One marijuans plant requires 3 gallons of water per day to sustain it.

The town’s people in attendance wanted to know what our government officials plan to do about this problem.  The water compnay plans to impletment a 3 tier system intended to charge high use customers more money.  Unfortunately, that doesn’t address the theft of water from existing residential customers or the illegal well drilling operations that steal water from existing wells.  

Congressman Obernolte reported that local DEA agents worked with law enforcement in LA County, using existing Federal Laws to shut down illegal growers in the Palmdale Lancaster Area.  He said that he is working to get the same kind of enforcement co-operation here in San Bernardino County.  DEA can target the water trucks, well drillers, and land owners who have been facilitating these growing farms using federal laws.

The District Attorney has been focusing on criminal activity that can be prosecuted, like the violence often associated with organized crime.  And, they are also focusing on civil prosecution of complaints by the county and local home owners.  They have also asked code enforcement to look into those types of violations including the use of banned chemicals and the illegal dumping of trash created by these farms.

The Sherrif’s Department has increased the number of task forces devoted to illegal marijuana growing farms from two to five.  They have also added two new deputies to serve the tri community and moved the Phelan Sub Station to a building near the Phelan Community Center in an effort to be more accessible to the public.  Since these growing operations use so much water, the sherrifs department has asked members of the community to report any suspicious activity related to the water trucks, and trucks with large plastic water containers in vehicles that have proliferated in the community as a result of this need for water.

Bui the most telling information from the Sherriff’s department was Sherriff McMahon’s assurance that the policy concerning the issuance of CCW’s will continue as it has been - an assurance that was echoed by his successor Sharon Dicus.  Neither man chose to explain why they felt mentioning this policy was important.  It could be noted, however,  that the local news reported that a citizen, who is believed to have been targeted by one illegal grow operation waited for an hour for sherriff’s deputies to respond to a shots fired call.  That home owner used his own gun to defend himself while he waited for law enforcement to respond

The only real solution to this problem is to change the laws governing these types of activities and address the concerns of the members of our communities.  Our local State Representatives and Congressman Obernolte who attended shared their attempts to introduce legislation that would address the environmental Impact these illegal enterprises have on the ecosystem, ininfrastructure, and water supply.  While Democrats and Republicans can’t alway agree about issues like the legalization of marijuana or punishements related to possession of the same, they can usually agree about many issues related to the environment.  The polution of our local water supply is something about which both sides can agree.  To that end, they have introduced legislation with an environmental focus.

The San Bernardino County Sherriffs Department, the District Attorney, and the County Supervisors have also been working in concert on legislation that will give them the power to shut down these operations for good and move them out of the county.

I thought in my head about how to make the most milquetoast, most emasculated, most pointless firearm that the ATF would allow after whittling away every other freedom and liberty about firearm ownership. The sort of firearm that the ATF and anti-gun people would allow to exist, just as a honeypot to torture gun owners into not seeing legal gun ownership and possession as worth their trouble. To start, the Fuddsucker is a handgun. Why a handgun? Because the Powers that Be that are the ATF and the masters they answer to clearly don’t mind handguns. Handguns can be used by the criminal element for small time burglary as well as mafioso work, and they cannot be used to threaten rich and powerful people from a reasonably long distance. That lack of assassination range is crucial. The ATF does not care as much about handguns, clearly, as we see in any state or city where the majority of gun crime comes from narco gangs using revolvers and pistols.

So, the gun would be a handgun. How long the barrel? Too short to be effectively accurate at any respectable range and too long to be a snub nosed for very close melee stuff. So, standard regulation orthodoxy milquetoast size.

The Computerized Fuddsucker would have tiny diode cameras that take pictures of whatever you’ve fired it at at the second of fire to upload them to the home site of the Fuddsucker company, for legal posterity. What happens when an institutional kitchen transitions from being run by municipal employees to operating as part of a for-profit company? At the Michigan Department of Corrections’ (MDOC) prison kitchens, a five-year experiment in privatization led to a whole host of problems, including a dramatic decline in food quality and safety, destabilized prisons and a drop in fair-wage jobs. It also may have caused a riot, put people’s lives in danger, created an odd alliance between inmates and guards against the MDOC administration, and failed to save the state money.

“It was a human atrocity against the inmates, in my opinion,” Ronald Taylor, a now-retired Michigan corrections officer, told Civil Eats. “The rotten garbage that was being served, plus the way they were allowing it to be prepared. It was an atrocity.”

In one Michigan prison, an Aramark employee pulled discarded food out of a trashcan and served it. In others, compnay employees fed inmates cakes on which rats had nibbled. Rotten chicken tacos resulted in 250 inmates being sickened and quarantined—and a class action lawsuit. Mold began to plague state prison kitchens, and some inmates ate cold food for months when a mold infestation shut down a chow hall. Multiple reports of maggots surfaced.

Softbank abandons $3 billion WeWork tender offer to buy Adam Neumann’s, investor shares

Troubled Japanese tech conglomerate Softbank, has announced via a statement, that it won’t go ahead with an earlier confirmed $3 billion share buy back deal finalised during WeWork’s bailout in October last year. This $3 billion share buyback was agreed upon in October in last year, when WeWork’s IPO failed, gross violations within the compnay came into light, and Softbank ultimately agreed to take control of the company to save its own billions invested into WeWork.

According to the then finalised agreement, Softbank was to spend $3 billion to buy WeWork stock from former Chief Executive Officer and founder Adam Neumann, Benchmark Capital and other shareholders. Softbank however intimated WeWork board in Mid march that certain crucial conditions of the deal were not met. Thursday was the deadline for the deal and as it passed, Softbank issued a statement confirming it will abandon the deal, citing five conditions that were not met.

These conditions include WeWork’s inability to close the roll up of company’s businesses in China, Japan and rest of Asia (including India). Softbank also mentions “multiple, new, and significant pending criminal and civil investigations” that have begun since the MTA was signed in October 2019.

“When the tender offer was negotiated in October 2019, SoftBank, WeWork, WeWork’s Special Committee, Adam Neumann and SoftBank Vision Fund agreed that SoftBank would not have to close the tender offer unless certain specifically negotiated conditions were satisfied. Several of the closing conditions were not satisfied by the April 1, 2020 deadline.”, said Softbank in a statement released today.

A WeWork committee of two independent directors voiced disagreement over SoftBank’s decision and suggested there may be legal action.

“The Special Committee is surprised and disappointed at this development, and remains committed to reaching a resolution that is in the best interest of WeWork and its minority shareholders, including WeWork’s employees and former employees. The Special Committee will evaluate all of its legal options, including litigation,” the committee, made up of Benchmark’s Bruce Dunlevie and another director, Lew Frankfort, said in an emailed statement to Bloomberg.

The tender offer has been under doubt since the time it was agreed upon. For one, there was massive criticism from WeWork’s minority shareholders, alleging that Adam Neuman, company’s founder and then CEO, was walking off a billionaire despite his wrongdoings. Most of the $3 billion would have gone to Adam Neuman and Benchmark Capital, along with a select few shareholders. WeWork employees would have got less than 10% of the amount in totality.  Softbank’s own board and shareholders were unhappy with the way the tech conglomerate handled the entire WeWork saga. This led to Masayoshi Son apologising to its investors during an investor call, about company’s ‘bad decisions’

Then in Mid-march, Softbank itself sent a letter to WeWork investors, stating that the agreement could be scrapped off if certain pre-determined conditions were not met. The Japanese tech behemoth had then cited investigations by the securities and exchange commission, along with one from the US Justice department.

“Given our fiduciary duty to our shareholders, it would be irresponsible of SoftBank to ignore the fact that the conditions were not satisfied and to nevertheless consummate the tender offer.”, added Rob Townsend, Softbank’s Chief Legal Officer.

The announcement to abandon the deal was met with much cheer by Softbank existing shareholders, and the Japanese stock market in general. Softbank’s shares rose as much as 4.5%, despite most of the Japanese market ending up in red.

What needs to be noted though, is that rest of Softbank’s bailout package remains intact. Apart from the $3 billion that is being abandoned now, Softbank has already provided an additional $5 billion to the company, along with an accelerated release of a pre-committed $1.5 billion.  SoftBank and the SoftBank Vision Fund have committed more than $14.25 billion to WeWork to date, including $5.45 billion since October 2019, the company said in a statement.
