I've seen a few posts about women and pants now and many of them are very good, and not to nitpick those posts or downplay religious sexism or anything, but I have to emphasise:

Somebody who DOESN'T live in a controlling religious country/cult/family is also affected by sexism. We all know that, right? Secular parts of the first world also have opinions about how women dress, including when it comes to trousers, especially in childhood and in institutions like schools and the workplace

Me and many people my age (20s) remember being forced into skirts, punished and shamed by parents & teachers & peers & possibly then bosses about what we wear not being feminine enough, and it wasn't by deeply religious sects. Many updates to dress codes are very new and sexist views are still in place in many institutions. Normalised societal misogyny wants women (and people they want to treat as women) to dress femininely, down to what KIND of pants they're allowed to wear (compare a pink top and jeggings to mens jeans and tell me these two women are treated the same. Hating women in pantsuits is still a sexist office joke today, and even those outfits are feminine compared to male suits, which raise eyebrows when worn by women). The women I know who wear trousers regularly are literally otherwise feminine, and all wear dresses to events.

I know trousers have become much more normalised over the past few decades in secular society (yay!! the result of many many years of effort and lawbreaking) but let's not be absolute when we talk about the pants concept lol. Especially within a larger conversation about female/transmasc/intersex/transfem masculinity and social perceptions, especially in an age of rising fascism

Some of the streets in the new sekai area are said to be based on Mexico (from a photobook Kohane saw), Hamburg, Boston (both places Toya has been), and Argentina (probably in part due to football, it was in Akito's chapter). In Kohane's chapter, it's said that the music playing in the street she's in is latin, but no country is named. India is also referenced. I think those would be pretty interesting in all honesty, and they already built some connections between them and the members, except An.

ANNA TORV - FAN BOOK PROJECT

A week ago, I wrote this post, about launching a fan book project for Anna Torv, all about us thanking her for her work as a fanbase. I have the whole thing basically ready to go--as in, instructions for you guys to follow to contribute--but right now I'm mostly trying real hard to just spread the word, so I don't end up shouting into the void. I'm hoping that the more people are aware & following the main page when I announce more details, the higher the chances of...success??

If you have a twitter account, PLEASE FOLLOW THE PAGE, and share literally any of the posts (the main announcement being the best one to share).

I also wanted to reassure people who are NOT on twitter but wish to participate that I will of course put all the information on tumblr as well. There will be an address email for you to submit things to, and a little website where everything will be explained. Can you tell I'm trying to do this seriously?

Because I am. I just really, really need people to get involved in helping spread this out, because I'm only one person, and there's literally nothing I can do unless a good amount of fans get involved.

It's Anna Torv's Birthday! 💖🎉🎂

We are celebrating the birthday of our extraordinary leading lady, and force of nature (pun intended 😉), Ms Anna Torv!

Is there truly a way of describing her presence on our screens, and how she has brought Helen Norville to life so vividly? If there is something we can always rely on Ms Torv for, its her ability to power all her characters with such an electric charge, and her commitment to bringing stories about complex women that we can all find things to relate to in. She will fiercely advocate for these fictional women, for audiences to see them through empathetic eyes, and she gives us a glimpse into their psyches and why they navigate their world the way they do.

She has proven this time and time again over the past two decades in The Secret Life of Us (Nikki Martel), Mindhunter (Wendy Carr), Secret City (Harriet Dunkley), The Last Of Us (Tess Servopolous) and of course, her massive leading role in Fringe (Olivia Dunham). But to me, the standout role will always be The Newsreader's Helen Norville.

There's something about her ability to teeter on the edge of Helen’s fragility and her reactionary ways which has you just wishing that you could reach through the screen and reassure Helen, offering her the support she needs so that she can flourish and succeed in all areas of her life. If there's something else that Ms Torv will also make sure of too, is that the complexities of each of her characters' individual circumstances will always be presented with honesty, sometimes brutally so, and every character Ms Torv plays is true to herself as a result. They are perfectly imperfect, and there is a message in empathy and understanding to take away. I for one have taken so much of this away through Helen.

We are more than blessed to have this wonderful lady be the body and soul of our Helen. We can only hope that she will bring Helen's story to an extraordinary conclusion in Season Three. I have all faith in it.
