Hey king tell me about pomegranates
im so glad you asked
they're in season in winter which is awesome bc its so depressing to have out of season fruit in like january
they are objectively the most sensual fruit. theyre if a cannibalism metaphor was not human and also was delicious (and doesnt kill u)
peeling them is stressful as hell if u dont like being sticky and also u will likelier than not get pomegranate juice projectile launching itself onto any white surface near you
theyre good for u have antioxidants and high levels of zinc i think? i'm not fact checking but pomegranate arils are good for u trust me
persephone and hades need i say more on this point?
also sometimes some of the arils will go bad bc of bruising or whatever and then u get to see them in contrast with Gorgeous Perfect Arils ough
its like eating rubies except not painful
the seeds are admittedly annoying as hell but u can eat them if u want!
theyre like an escape room but fruit
its like the equivalent of when u peel the membrane off of a piece of citrus to eat the juice vesicles except its Encouraged and Normal and soo fun and satisfying
its like meditation for real getting to sit for a long while and peel a tedious fruit
i love pomegranates thank you for asking :)

Citrus Fruit Review // Pink Honey Pomelo
Considering how my last CFR is now more than a year old, I think think it is time for the second installment. Today we take a closer taste of the pink honey pomelo or the Citrus Maxima or Pampelmuse in my native language.
Tumblr media
You may think this looks like an grapefruit mixed with a lemon but the actual taxonomy is much wilder than I imagined. There is a lot of information how  which citrus fruit came to be and hoo boy is it complicated.
Tumblr media
THIS IS NOT EVEN CLOSE TO THE WHOLE TAXONOMY.
If I were to do one CFR per year, I would be dead before I could taste them all. However because of the circumstances I don’t even have access to 10% of all the Citrus hybrids and even getting pure species is a hassel.
However this is a CRF of the Pomelo
Tumblr media
THIS FRUIT IS MASSIVE it deserves the Latin name Citrus Maxima, easily reaching sizes to 15 to 25 centimeters.
The rind loaded with insecticide and Antioxidants should not be eaten.  There are a lot of videos of how to peel the pomelo thanks to the thick mesocarp layer (yes the white stuff) and you should watch these if you get your hands on one of these.
Tumblr media
Look at those marvelous juice vesicles (yes I learned some new citrus vocabulary). They can get as huge as a cooked grain of rice.
It tastes like a mild sweet grapefruit and is more juicy than a mandarine but less watery than watermelon. It is usually eaten raw like a quick snack and definitly great fingerfood for up to 4 people. It is massive after alll. Way too much for a single person even for me.
But Andey, I hear you ask inside my head, what do I do with such a massive fruit which even your juicer can not handle and sates even your unbridled lust for citrus fruits?
I used my excess of pomelo to cook rice pudding and it tastes great. here is the basic recipe I used to add the pomelo to
For 4 portions: 1 Liter Milk 250 grams  Rice ~50 grams  Sugar some Butter 1 pod of vanilla Cinnamon, Pomelo or other fruits to your liking
Melt the butter in a large pot, then briefly sauté the round grain rice in the butter. Now add the room-warm whole milk and sugar. If available, add the pulp of a vanilla pod as well as the slit pod to the pot. Bring everything to the boil once, stirring carefully with a wooden spoon and taking care that nothing sticks to the bottom of the pot. Now place the pot on a stove top that is heating on the lowest setting. Let the rice pudding steep in the closed pot for exactly 30 minutes. stir rarely. Add the extras to your liking.
Tumblr media
I give the pink honey pomelo a rating of 4 out of 5. I personally can’t wait for a hybridized pink honey lemon or other crazy hybrids of the future.

Why orange juice, although an acid, gives alkaline urine...
This is made by squeezing oranges, and when it contains 'bits' it means the vesicles containing the juice are left in. To lengthen shelf life the juice may be pasteurised and oxygen removed but this reduces flavour. Removing water also does this, which is why juice made from concentrate is never as tasty. It is so full of sugar that the health benefits of drinking it may be small although it does contain lots of Vitamin C.

On a molecular level, orange juice is composed of organic acids, sugars, and phenolic compounds. The main organic acids found in orange juice are citric, malic, and ascorbic acid. The major sugars found in orange juice are sucrose, glucose, and fructose.
Citric acid is a weak organic acid that occurs naturally in citrus fruits. It is essential in the bodies metabolic pathways and involved in maintaining healthy bone. it is also known to act as a buffer inside biological systems when pH is 2-8. It forms complexes with metal ions like calcium. It is used to enhance flavour and preserve food and drinks (may be called E330), stops fats separating, in place of lemon juice, to make metals soluble (so for example reduces limescale), to control pH in cleaning fluids and many more things. Citrate is a negatively charged form of citric acid and gives a sour taste. Once citrate enters the circulation, it is metabolized to carbon dioxide and then bicarbonate on a 1: 3 basis which is probably why urine becomes more alkaline.

Finger Lime Benefits
Scientific name — Citrus australasica
Finger lime is scientifically known as Citrus australasica is a rainforest plant grown and sited mainly in regions of South East Queensland also on ranges of Northern NSW. This tree naturally grows in places like an understorey place as a shrub that grows as tall as 6 meters in height on a varied range of soil type. Distinctive feature of the tree These trees grow to be thorny and are known to produce very unique finger shaped fruit known as the finger lime. The fruit grows as long as 12cm with a green yellow shaded skin and fleshy pulp inside it. This fruit can also sometimes produce a pink red flesh that occurs absolutely naturally to them. This distinct coloured finger lime is known as Citrus australasica var. sanguinea. When these plants are not cultivated domestically, they grow in the wilds. These wild growing finger limes are very different from the domestic ones mainly because of the genetic variation. Apart from the genetic difference they also vary largely in size, shape, colour as well as the mount of seeds present in the fruit. The pulp of the fruit has an interesting look, feel and texture to it. This is because of the presence of separate juice vesicles present in them that makes them look like caviar. Each individual juice vesicles present in the fruit is compressed inside the skin of the fruit and once the fruit opens it burst out. Each juice vesicle is referred to as crystals.

How much Juice in [ONE] Lime?
Lime (from French lime, from Arabic līma, from Persian līmū, "lemon") is a citrus fruit, which is typically round, green in color, 3–6 centimetres (1.2–2.4 in) in diameter, and contains acidic juice vesicles. We should know how much juice in one lime to purchase in store for concocting a Moscow mule, or any other recipe that calls for lime juice. How to Pick a Lime All that you need is pickup a lime packed full of juice. Unlike Lemon, normally limes are of uniform size and we can standardize the amount of juice in them and can calculate the number of limes required for our recipe. Please look for the following things when picking limes: Look for firm and tight limes as they have more liquid packed inside. Avoid soft fruit which contains less liquid.Look for a smooth rind. The rind of fresh lime will be smooth. This is because the rind is stretched when the fruit is full of liquid.Pick the ones which are heavier because they are juicierSelect Fresh green limes. More the green riper it is. Greener ones have more flavor that little yellow limes.
Tumblr media
How to Juice a Lime I really wanted to know if different limes release the varying amounts of juice. So, I started testing three different varieties of limes and measured the outcome. There is not much difference in how much juice in one lime. It is almost the same in all types of limes purchased in our regular grocery stores. Here's What You'll Need: KnifeCutting BoardHandheld juicer or any other citrus juicerSmall prep bowl
Tumblr media
Massage the lime under your palm over the cutting board which will help to separate the juice vesicles. Slice the lime crosswise(very important)
Tumblr media
Put half cut lime in the hand juicer with cut side facing down. Slowly press the handles of the juicer over the bowl juice will start dripping down to the bowl.
Tumblr media
Strain the juice with slotted spoon or fine strainer if you don't want seeds in the juice. How much juice in one lime Ultimately I tested with different varieties of limes and end up with same results. All the limes almost give the same amout of juice. 1 Lime = 2 tablespoons fresh juice (1 fl oz) With this in mind you can calculate the number of limes required for the recipe when you visit the grocery store next time.

Citrus limon-derived nanovesicles inhibit cancer cell proliferation and suppress CML xenograft growth by inducing TRAIL-mediated cell death.
PMID:  Oncotarget. 2015 Aug 14 ;6(23):19514-27. PMID: 26098775 Abstract Title:  Citrus limon-derived nanovesicles inhibit cancer cell proliferation and suppress CML xenograft growth by inducing TRAIL-mediated cell death. Abstract:  Nanosized vesicles are considered key players in cell to cell communication, thus influencing physiological and pathological processes, including cancer. Nanovesicles have also been found in edible-plants and have shown therapeutic activity in inflammatory bowel diseases; however information on their role in affecting cancer progression is missing. Our study identify for the first time a fraction of vesicles from lemon juice (Citrus limon L.), obtained as a result of different ultracentrifugation, with density ranging from 1,15 to 1,19 g/ml and specific proteomic profile. By using an in vitro approach, we show that isolated nanovesicles inhibit cancer cell proliferation in different tumor cell lines, by activating a TRAIL-mediated apoptotic cell death. Furthermore, we demonstrate that lemon nanovesicles suppress CML tumor growth in vivo by specifically reaching tumor site and by activating TRAIL-mediated apoptotic cell processes. Overall, this study suggests the possible use of plant-edible nanovesicles as a feasible approach in cancer treatment.
