(Also I got the Peter F. Hamilton books entirely based on enjoying Pandora's Star like twenty years ago and completely managed to not realize there's another book between The Dreaming Void and The Evolutionary Void.)

Prosper, Hewn City historian and diplomat. Pre-Shatter, there were two Beastclan societies -- one Talonok and one Longneck -- that built most of the "ruins" of the Sunbeam Ruins. Unfortunately, this area was one of the hardest hit by the first appearance of dragons, being the birthplace of the Emperors. The Talonok, who lived mostly north of the river, never really regained a presence in the area until modern times, drawn in by the newer metropolis of Lanternlea. But south of the river, the ancient Longneck society still maintains a presence in the Hewn City, despite the cursed remains of early Fourth Age magic cast there and the Shade it attracts to this day. Prosper acts as a liaison between local governments inside the City and the councils in Lanternlea, and is generally an enthusiast of exploring the ruin's mysteries. His frequent exposure to Shade remnants seems to have dulled the yellow of his eyes.

i love doing character analysis for minthara because shes such a wonderful hypocrite. she has a lot of deeply reactionary political views but she makes it openly known shes willing to suspend just about all of them because youve become more important to her than nearly anything else. deeply opinionated but never pushes you to do something you wont throw your weight behind, and if your her partner shell suspend all the "survival of the fittest" cultural upbringing she finds so much sense and empowerment in to make an exception for you specifically and no one else.

After Danny exposed Vlad and his corrupt dealings, the older halfa got the last laugh by getting his blacklists from all engineering jobs. Desperate for a job Danny ends up applying for a personal assistant position and he actually gets it. It only takes him a week to see how detached Bruce Wayne is from his own company. AND he has his 16 year old son running it as CEO!? No way is he letting that slide.

One of the right-wing bugaboos I've never understood was the disdain they had against cities. It's not the city's fault they got filled up with leftists and homeless, the communities within were broken up and scattered to the winds as a result of policy. Cities don't inherently corrupt people it's actually the other way around

anyway Caleb mentioned his grandmother reading stories to him and we have no way to verify whether he was bullshitting or not but also he had no reason to lie about that specific thing so actually yeah I don’t care what is true canon

because in my heart Caleb’s grandmother is alive somewhere and one day they will run into each other by complete accident and Caleb will be freaking tf out and being so flighty because oh god he can’t tell her, he can’t tell her, she can’t know but actually word gets around and she’s known for a long time but has also lived her own story arc dealing with the anger and grief etc and a good 97% of her remaining anger is at Trent at this point even though she doesn’t know all the specifics. Like for several years she tried not to but the fact is she still loves her grandson.

but Caleb is like horrified that she knows and he’s expecting the absolute worst and is honestly fully accepting of it too, but she just grabs him and they hug hug hug and Caleb finally gets to have the gross soul crushing convulsive sobbing fit he’s been procrastinating on for like 13+ years

and then of course there’s things like a reveal that grandma also has a particular knack for magic and also her telling the Nein to take care of Caleb and him to take care of them, in extra particular she and Nott have a Talk and it’s honestly so cathartic

and of course also if she ever sees Trent she will absolutely one shot him
